Sanny uses his Greatsword like the majority of warriors as a tool to disengage and gap close but mostly to disengage. HB never really gets factored in unless to punish a person stupid enough to try a rez on a downed ally before dealing with the warrior.

3 seconds still isn’t enough since the actual channel is 3.5 the actual damage of HB comes at the end of the channel the last hit is the most damaging. Most people run a break stun ability or have some sort of stability when stunned as well.

This is where the tides can turn with putting 10 in Tactics. Get leg specialist and you can land your 100blades alot more often than one might think. Bull’s Charge, Hammer Shock, and Bladetrail all are potential opps to land 100blades – not a full one, but enough with a whirlwind to make a nice dent.

Leg specialist is 1 sec immobilize. Bulls charge>>knock down for 2 sec>>>1/2 to hammer shock>>hammer shock lands>>>1 sec immobilize>>basically you landed immobilize during the knock down effect rendering the 1 sec immobilize useless. Lets say you bulls charged..waited a bit..hammer shock at the end..you still have 1 second of immobilize to work your 3.5 100b on.

Blade trail is just as bad at setting up 100b. Assuming you are hugging them when you throw it then you get the 1st sec immobilie then there is a break where they can dodge before the returning blade hits them so you only get 1sec immobilize again.

Both the blade trail and hammer shock have a longer cool down than even an untraited F1 Hammer shock. Asides from thieves and mesmers, few classes can keep breaking out of stuns on a 7-9s cool down. Even better is the sword immobilize. Classes have a harder time with immobilize than stun breaks -broken thieves and mesmers are an exception, of course-.

So in the bladetrail and hammer shock with leg specialist combos mentioned you won’t even get to land half the 100b.

You have a better chance of using bolas or AOE hammer stun with sigil of paralyation and using a 100b right after and then GS3 before 100b finishes. Sword burst is also a good immobilize for a 100b every 7-9 seconds and is hard to break out of repeatedly -especially since your in their face with Sword 2-. Sword is pretty good set up for 100b but the only problem is you are using a 100b..

Using a normal duration 100b is a bad idea if you are against more than one target. You are basically a sitting duck that can be bursted by the 2nd target..hell..even your main target if its smart can burst you if it pops invulnerability abilities. I guess that is what we have.

The long cast time on it while being rooted or even NOT rooted is just pure stupidity.

Great advice, Orangen. You can use reckless dodge to remove blind if you got it and you really have to, I guess.

I can put up with many broken thief mechanics but I don’t like them getting away whenever they want. I slot stuff just to try and minimize them getting away.

Cool story, bro. I’m gonna go back to playing my warrior class and not spamming forums trying to downplay how OP the mesmer class is/theorycrafting/discussing pve stuff like dust prices.
(BTW, Varnoth plays a mesmer. Maybe he will say he stopped playing him as he will claim. Check his previous posts complaining of how stupid the mesmer community is..notice a pattern?)

How about you frap how effective DOE is against a good guardian in spvp? I’d love to see how you demonstrate that the class is fine. Don’t forget where the DOE . Here is the link to assist the theory crafting:

hmm..Maybe math will help you come up with a good answer to that one.

Till then..all your doing is theory crafting, not actually testing the abilities extensively, trying to defend your theory crafting and being all over the place. Hell! They might even hire you as a dev for class balance with those credentials!

As for referring to a single player as an example that the class is fine:

-Are we talking about the same defektive whom you corrected how the sword immobilize is on a 7-9s cool down compared with the relatively long longbow immobilize cool down?

-The one that posted all the builds as ‘target support’ aka someone has to baby sit me in high end tourneys?

There are good warrior players but the main problem with the class is not the lack of good players..its that there is just so much we can do with a bad class as opposed to playing a mesmer or guardian instead. Stop attacking the warrior community and blaming the failings of the class on the players.

If you were right, then why is Anet planing on fixes for the class? Must be because of all the ‘bad’ warrior players, huh?

Amigo..we don’t think the class is fine if we have to be baby sat by other players. That is not doing well. That is called being carried by other classes..
If that is your style of play then power to you!

Summary:
You play/played a mesmer
You don’t even use DOE
You downplay the OPeness of the mesmer class and apparently think the warrior class is fine and we are mostly bad players.
Your good at math when proving the obvious. Hows the Lead Developer of jGW2API thing coming along? I’m not sure since I try and play/have my warrior class fixed.

Here is the gear iam using.. and the gear i have been 3 hitted in.
I whould think that 2.5 k armor + 20 k hp, whould be enough…
(edit: it only look like 18.9k on stats. but its actually 19.8 on life bottle/screen).

But it seems that Armor classes in this game are just cosmetics.
I have like 600 – 800 more armor than my elemental, wich is using light…
Now thats just plain weird.

Maybe i live in a different reality…
But i honestly think that heavy metal armors should protect a hell of a lot more than cloth.

in GW2:
my Heavy, metal armor.
is helping to protect me the same as if i whould use recycled toilettpaper…
it doesnt seem to help for schit…

My 1 hand weapons, do the same dmg as my BIG kitten sword and super sledge hammer…???
In my reality, people made BIG 2 handed weapons to inflict a TON more dmg per swing…
My test against lvl 80 wolves. found in wvw. iam traited for rifle. nothing else.
my 1 hand axe. auto crits = 1.800-2.400.
my 2 hand great sword. auto crits = 1.400 – 2.000 umm… wtf… its less… ?? !! ???
my 2 hand hammer. auto crits = 2.400 – 3.100. now we are atleast on the right way…

2.5k armor and 20k HP for a warrior is pretty much glass cannon status.

i have 2.5k armor and 17k HP for my thief and it’s medium armor with the lowest base HP….

You can go full knight and you will still drop. It just takes longer.

Why? Because thieves can reset the fight repeatedly and can get out of any cc/immobilize using spammable shadow steps.

Anyone knows that toughness/vit doesn’t help you against damage as much as protection does. Warriors have no access to it beyond some silly runes.

Sounds to me like warriors are sitting targets and those with tankier gear are ones that just take longer to die.

How about you play a warrior and frap to show us how well you do with tanky gear?

we got into a fight with a mesmer.

Got mesmer down. was about to use the stomp.

I had 12 k hp left of my 20 total..

I saw a poff of smoke.. and then i was dead. looking at the target that killed me.
a Thief…

My first reaction was… wtf realy ?? 12 k hp.. insta killed. on heavy armor… seriously.

WTF is wrong with the Designers that should balance this game.

On top of the supreem mobility on a thief. it has invisibility. that not even Dots uncloak… they dont even leave a bleeding trail or anything… just… gone.
And Also thieves have this stupidly insane op burst dmg, wich you cant realy protect yourself against… your dead before you react.

Because the fight is like this most of the times:
I target a thief.. i start to shoot at him..he notice he gets dmg and vanish…
switch weapons to prepare melee…
2 seconds later. you see a poff of smoke around you.. THIEF…
You start to swing.. “my hp is fine, i get this”… “WTF.. iam down already ? its 2 seconds into fight”…

My warrior in 20 k hp.. have actually been 3 hitted by a thief..
It was the most stupid thing i have ever seen.
Sure, that thief had full zerker gear and low hp…
but who needs hp if you can 3 hit 20 k hp…

Feck, i dont want to know the dmg they can do against Light armor.
But i heard ppl in my guild getting 1 hitted………..

Maybe they should increase our base armor ? (like alot)…
Or nerf the thief insane dmg abit ?

I usualy find my thiev very boring to lvl… but iam REALY starting to think about joining the stupidly op side and lvl my thief to 80 also.

one in my guild occupied 6 ppl for 15 minutes…then they got lucky and could chain lock him.
So thieves are also super trollers… REALY good balance by A-net…

You completely lack any credibility with this point. Do not generalize all thieves. Sure you got pwned hard by someone but that doesn’t mean all builds have enough damage.

P/D, S/P, and P/P all need damage BUFFS.

So D/D , S/D and D/P are good? That is just dandy..thieves wanting even more viable builds to compliment their broken mechanics while the rest of us struggle with one pigeon hole build in pvp.

Thief is pretty weak in pvp already. Very limited in wvw, and not the dominator in pve. They arn’t kings anywhere, yet people can’t seem to l2p :/

Somethings will never make sense…

I don’t know how this changes would effect PvE and personally I am all for buffing thieves if this is too much. I want them viable. What I dislike is the mechanic of stealth itself. It is a very harsh mechanic and it’s not that fun to deal with. Not many classes have an option to counter the tactics and the fight ends in annoying stalemates.

Let me paint you a picture on how these soft counters can play out. Lets say a water elemental’s water field, geyser, made it so the thief sometimes left footprints or water droplets while walking inside it. The elementalist can’t actually see the thief but he can guess where he’s heading and try n’ hit his opponent with area of effect abilities. If there are no droplets then the ele can guess that the thief is somewhere else. The thief can respond in a few ways. The first option is he could wait until he’s out of the water field to start his invis, or he can be unpredictable enough not to be hit by it during the invis. If he’kitten he can use one of his many blink abilities so the thief’s opponent still doesn’t know where he went. He could stand still inside the field in order to pretend like he didn’t enter. He could keep moving knowing that the ele will know and just dodge the incoming AE attack. He could have a friendly distract the ele so he doesn’t have the time to actually track the thief.

Do you see how much meta game this will add in PvP? A thief will actually need to be tricky.

In theory, yes this would be sort of fair. In practice, think of how hard this would be to incorporate. Stealth reveal isn’t an option for the clear reason that thieves can’t stealth for ever. If they try to, they simply arn’t hurting anyone because the second they deal any direct damage they are revealed. I main thief, I also play warrior and ranger. Because I main thief, I know the common patterns thieves use and have found them to be lousy and pitiful. They can “perma stealth” but the second they are revealed they are meaningless to me and I don’t spec for dps (wvw). In spvp, it usually ends in a stalemate because they simply cannot stay out of stealth long enough to get me near low health.

Bottom line, thieves arn’t that powerful if you know what they’re capable of.

So some stuff:
Null Field says it removes all boons and conditions. It doesn’t… and everyone should now that 10 months into the game…
It pulses once per second and removes 1 boon and 1 condition.

Then, damage modifiers like Destruction of the Empowered and Protection are most likely not just added (substracted) from each other.
They are multiplied:
Damage * DotE_Bonus * Protection_Bonus

Lets say with 8 boons including protection on 1000 damage:
1000 * (1+8 * 0.03)* 0.67 = 830

So the reduction/bonus is:

  • (1+uniqueBoonCount*0.03) * (1-(hasProtection * 0.33)) with
    • hasProtection == true -> 1
    • hasProtection == false -> 0

XII, what you probably never thought of, is something like protection should always work against warriors. It for example also always works against guardians, rangers, eles and engineer.
That is 4 out of 8 classes with no way to stop protection (50% of all classes).
Necro, Mesmer and Thief can bypass protection by using certain tools (although necro is pretty bad in that regard, with extreme long cooldowns).

These two are the best ways around boons because they have extreme low cooldowns.
Necro, while having boon removal, has to give up utility slots and has to take weapons like focus aswell, and does not have close the boon removal thief and mesmer got.

Necro is basically on a same level as warrior with Destruction of the Empowered when it comes to boonhate (that includes both, removal and getting better with more boons on the target).

Warrior probably isn’t meant to bypass protection completely, but Desctruction of the Empowered is a trait which helps bypass it partly.
So it is by no means useless. You are still dealing more damage to a guardian as you said in your example, than without that trait.
On the over side, on targets without protection warrior is the topdog when it comes to boon hate, followed by mesmer then thief.

1.Nice try about the Null field..it removes one boon yes..but it removes it from up to 5 targets each second so that is 5 boons per second? This is a team game so sounds preeeetty neat to me!
It can also cause confusion or blind if traited into.
So not only does it remove conditions from MULTIPLE targets and rips boons from MULTIPLE targets but it can also apply conditions to MULTIPLE targets? I dunno..that sounds way more OP than DOE.

2.Nice calculations..I’m not sure why you listed them since in the end it just states the obvious that our bonus damage with DOE still does not negate the damage reduction offered by protection. So in the end, our damage is still mitigated with a trait that is 30 points down a tree few of us go to..? So basically..it fails to help us against a single condition as opposed to simply..removing that condition..

I think anyone here agrees that removing protection is way more powerful than increasing the damage to a degree that can’t even overcome the damage reduction offered by protection. I know. I kinda play the warrior extensively and have tested that trait.

3.Yes..I never thought that protection is supposed to protect from other players damage..like warriors. Anyway, It works against Guardians, Eles,Rangers, Engys..who also have access to it? So..it balances out? Cool.
Mesmers/necros and thieves can remove it? Yes.. But thieve’s and mesmers cant easily remove it..oh yes..they can stealth/teleport/shadowstep till it burns out. Cool.
Warriors have no access to protection..warriors have no way of removing protection..

As for your point about necros having to use a weapon to remove boons..why would they?

They can equip a lolly pop and still remove boons like a champ:

I dunno man..but it sounds to me like the warrior class is the only class that is screwed when it comes to protection in this game.. Were forced to go 30 points in a line we don’t want and forced to leave burst mastery in order to get a skill that is suboptimal at the best of times and inferior to any boon ripping any class has? Sounds like a bad deal to me.

Theorycrafting -and discussing dust prices with passion!- is nice but it doesn’t hold when your supposed to be a dominant melee class and have a BM ranger or a guardian wipe the floor with you.

Have fun convincing warrior players being smacked around that that trait is good.

Ill make a serious suggestion to the OP, just to try and end this argument.
Sir, create a thief, go to PVP, put in zerker jewels, daggers, and “zerker” runes (wurm, eagle, scholar, your choice), there you got a full zerker thief, which should be like the one that killed you so fast. You’ll notice that, while you do “acceptable” damage and have stealth, which definitively is good support, you are in no way invulnerable, and will most definitively die in 2 seconds when someone counters or starts swinging his sword in the air.
I believe, and Im not trying to be rude or anything, that the thief who got you could have had serious skill or just caught you when you were distracted (which is basically a strategy for us to use, since we cant take more than 2 hits) therefore, having surprassed you in a way, he deserved to win… when I roll my thief and get 2 shattered by a mesmer, eaten by a ranger (or ranger’s pet), destroyed by a condition-happy engineer, sure I get frustrated, but most of the time I realize that those players just outskill me, and know how to counter my 2-sec burst with their 1-sec counter
Its a sincere suggestion, when I simply cant take head on a class, I usually roll that class for pvp only and try to understand how hard it is to play it and whakittens weaknesses are, believe me, it helps =)

Nobody can counter a shadow step on zero cool down, spammable, breaks stun, bypasses immobilize.

You can’t counter what you can’t see..ever heard about dodging? Well thieves haven’t since we can’t dodge an attack we can’t see. Funny that..a broken mechanic that bypasses dodge completely..

How about stealth and shadowstep stomping that completely bypasses the downed state?

Stealth revive?

Perma stealth with D/P?

Removing condition and healing while stealth? Stealth doesn’t break on being damaged?

Please stop pretending the class needs all that.. Only bad players need all that.

How about you roll a warrior and see how well you do? You won’t..because the broken thief class carries the player who abuses its mechanics big time.

In wvw on my pvt warrior hammer with sword/warhorn….no issue with thieves. L2P you kitten scrubs. They are so overestimating thieves… you people just cannot grasp how simple they are.

Is stealth finsihing fair? no.

However, is mistform finishing fair? no.

Is stability finisher fair? in some cases no.

Is Ele being able to avoid certain death upon being downed for a couple extra seconds(and enter a wvw fort/tower?). NO!

You people just cry and cry… over and over… talk about the past.

In spvp my ranger has only 18k hp and I ended a theif duel in a draw. Why? because I know what thieves try to do/spam. Its entirely avoidable. Could prolly bring my warrior and duel a thief. Only difference is I would need to change my weapon sets. Thieves don’t get much boons. Abuse that alone with the fact that they arn’t invulnerable while in stealth and you will win.

(That duel on my ranger lasted like 6 minutes. Neither of us got downed. I’m not running bunker ranger but I do know how to dodge…)

tips:
perma stealth: yeah they arn’t damaging you…. dd reveals them

HS spam: you have to be afk to die to this… like really…

Condition spec: bleed and poison shoudln’t be your issue. If it is you arn’t paying enough attention to condi removal or have no condi removal.

Stealth spam: See a thief stealth? back off. The more they have to travel the more stealth duration they waste. If they get within 900-1200 range (you should be able to eyeball that this late in the game) dodge, especially if they have Basilik venom on. Thieves are SOOO easy to counter if you know how their skills behave.

You run PVT coz you run in a zerg and if you aren’t, then whats the point?. You won’t kill any good thief with your burst lacking pvt gear.

Stealth is up all the time for thief to finish on. Mist form and stability are not. You obviously played the warrior class, the class didn’t carry you so you switched to thief as your posts suggest. Either way you don’t understand how thieves work since you did not mention shadowstep stomping. Most likely you never knew the thing exists.

How about Aegis stomping? Distortion stomping -that is a mesmer stomp, btw!-?
I’m sure you never knew these things existed.

Who cares about an ele mist forming into a tower..? Wow..that is..just..game breaking..

Your playing the most broken class in spvp now -ranger or thief- and bragging? Are you also the ranger type that runs into the water when he is about to go down?

Some of us play the warrior class because we don’t need the class to carry us hard core.

It’s a PvP trait not PvE where Burst Mastery will outshine it. I would like to see it buffed nonetheless to 4% or 5% per unique buff.

Buffing the damage is useless. They will never buff it that much as it will hurt non protection boon using classes too much.

We need boon stripping plain and simple.

The trait isn’t terrible. The trait line bonuses, mostly Brawn, not giving a decent return is the problem.

How can Anyone after that say that boon ripping is ‘too much’ for a warrior? Maybe if you are new to the class and have no idea what other classes are capable of.

And if you think that destruction of the empowered is good..here is why it isn’t:
DOE can’t even break through protection.

DOE is useless against a guardian whom it should be the most effective against.

I’ll explain it again -really need to create a word document for it-:

Save yourselves shout: One of the most ridiculous abilities in the game with the Highest number of boons per ability in the game on a guardian: 7 boons.

-So that is 3×7=21% extra damage. One of those boons is protection so 33% damage reduction-21% increased damage= 12% reduction of damage.
-So you can’t even break through the protection.
-Also, regen is running and they have heals firing off so its now even worse.
-Retaliation is up and so your hurting yourself more with this ability.
Ele? 4 boons up including protection? 33-12=21% damage reduction with DOE.
Engy? Same thing when they have protection up.

So in every case scenario you can’t even break through the protection.

Also, it needs boons to be up. We have traits that give us passive increase in damage all the time which you can spec into and are 10% flat increase regardless of boons so close to 12% which is the equivalent of DOE on a 4 boon target.

I tried it extensively and it does jack kitten against guardians who know how to face roll through their buttons. You still end up backing off when they pop their ‘Save yourselves’ shout. So basically its pointless.

Not really. You would lose the 40% condition reduction food which renders necros and engys useless.

I run both melandru and the food for a 60% condi reduc and with breaking immobilize abilities I rarely have trouble with those classes. And I’m a warrior..imagine what the non-broken classes can do to necro engy.

Anti stealth food is not OP . I don’t see why we should screw over condi necros and engys while not doing anything for stealth.

As for food balancing the class/builds..yea..that’s the purpose of it in wvw after making anet some cash.

Balancing downed state

Simply allow hot joins without downed state as an option. They can’t/won’t balance normal abilities so what makes you think they will do so for downed?

Been months till they fixed the ele downed state and they simply switched the abilities around.. Necros still suffer from their low health during downed state since what..launch?

The option is already available in custom arenas, I think.

Am I the only one who uses throw bolas before 100b in PvP? >_>

Bolas >>bulls charge for 100b. The problem is mesmers/thieves teleports/shadowstep get rid of both of them or at least distance them selves from you. So stupid..weapon skills>>>stability with zero cool down.

This Fenrir guy has quoted and disagreed with every post I’ve made in the past 24 hours. I’m not sure if he’s trolling, but I still agree with you 100%. It’s hard to find another warrior who understands the importance of mobility and how lackluster the greatsword actually becomes when facing far greater odds when most other classes will outdo a warrior simply due to balance issues.

Haha he’s usually not too bad, most warriors just get a bit of separation anxiety at the thought of parting with their Greatsword…. And the unfortunate whining about it’s lackluster in PvP/WvW will lead to it getting wrecked as far as PvE goes, but hey, what can you do?

My god just stop posting.

In fairy tale land where unicorns fart rainbows and you never get crippled or chilled ever, sure, GS is pretty mobile. In the game I play those conditions get thrown around so regularly there’s rarely any point in cleansing them. Also the definition of ‘kiting’ has changed significantly in the past few hours if you can now do this with a melee weapon…
Savage Leap > Rush and Whirlwind put together if we’re talking about mobility here…. But I fear my words might be wasted on a theory crafter who has yet to see the battlefield.

What are you talking about? You have two mobile strike abilities on your GS, 3 on your axe/shield and a bulls charge. That gives you 6 immobilize removers. There is no point in cleansing immob and cripple? Then you sit back with your rifle/signet warrior and get kitten on?

Let me sum up your previous replies:

You are against having banner buffs being mobile because a banner on your back clashes with your outfit.

You think signets are great.

You think GS is used for 100b mainly.

You think since a condition can be applied repeatedly that you should not fight against it? I guess condition removal/stun breakers are just a silly concept, too.

You use a rifle. Hows that going with a thief or a melee warrior drowning your face with kitten?

You think signet of might with a cc interrupts blocking -if you knew the class you’d know that it doesn’t-. I think pretending that something is right without knowing if it actually works is called theory crafting which you just did.

You are allowed to have an opinion but don’t think that that means it’s right.

Everyone should check this guys posts and see the multiple replies correcting him/making fun of him. You’d think that some ppl get embarrassed sooner or later.

Keep posting. We need the entertainment.

Dealing with Thief in 1v1 Arena

The most broken build is the one using sword/dagger. The shadowstep breaks out of any stun combo and any immobilize with zero cool down and is instant.

I suggest you roll a thief or mesmer as you will achieve more with less than half the effort you put in your warrior.

Ranger vs Warrior

Hey guys!

I both love my warrior and my ranger (prefer my warrior in PvE though).
I played both of them equally in sPvP and Tournaments, but as the people around me got better, my warrior started to become harder and harder to succeed with.

A lot of people complain about the Rangerpet being a huge source of damage and BMs being to tanky while the pet dealing huge amounts of damage.
Forgett about that.
I wanted to know what rocks more, a standard “offtank” warrior (so good damage and good defense) or a ranger using his weakest pets with 0 points in beastmastery. (Spirits + skirmishing)

The result is simple: the ranger is able to deal a lot more damage while being super evasive and tanky. My ranger can take on 2-3 enemies for quite a time while my warrior is downed in seconds. The warrior can’t stick to his enemy ending up running around doing nothing mostly.
While Power and HP are almost the same, the warrior just does a lot worse.
I changed my playstile to assasinate enemy warriors as quick as I can since they are next to necros the weakest sPvP profession.

Imho: The warrior needs a full condition removal on his healspell, gapclosers on his weaponskills and overall more tankyness.

Nope. Play as a ranger. Warriors blow and are not worth playing till we see what the patch in a few months time shows.

Either your ranger or a mesmer/thief.

Nope. Role a mesmer or thief. Since they are OP and Anet thinks they are balanced -or most likely are just incompetent/lazy to balance them- then they are your best bet.

Anything you have, thieves/mesmers got it better.

Endure Pain and Sure-Footed

Does Sure-Footed trait affect Endure Pain? I can’t really tell since skill description of it does not change when equipping the trait, neither does Frenzy.

It increases slotted endure pain by 1sec. It does not affect reactive which is bugged still and is about 3sec. Its not worth it since you sacrifice more important skills.

FYI, The rangers have theirs for 6 seconds and if they trait into it, 48 sec cool down instead of 60.

Why do Banners not have F1 Skills?

The idea of fixing them to your back and toting them around like a Space Marine has been thrown around quite a lot too. In this situation a unique banner skill would replace our regular F1 weapon skill.
I’m all for a Banner revamp, from being equipable to your back piece to having passive skills that occupy their utility slot after they’ve been dropped, and of course giving them an F1 ability when wielded. The possibilities are endless where we’ve got 4 unique bundles with 4 unused buttons (F1-F4)

Space marine? What are you talking about? I’d rather have the banner buffs with me when I walk around than lose them when I move out of range.

No body cares if it doesn’t fit with your ‘look’.

The planting them on the ground thing is good as it is, they just need to be either 1) picked up on the fly or 2) summonable to your hands by pressing the utility skill again.

I sincerely hope this ‘Greatsword Only’ attitude is being purely directed at PvE, if not then… I’ve truly lost all faith in the Warrior community.
A Greatsword warrior is a free kill, I thought this was common knowledge by this point?

So before you “approve” with the authority of “no one cares” you should study well what are you talking about.

Different weapons are made for different situations. Rifle is for strong single target damage, bow for AoE damage, shield is for blocking, you see where I’m going with this? Greatsword excels at obliterating stationary targets. But surprisingly other players don’t stand still. It does its job well, arguing that it can’t land it’s full damage burst on a moving target is like arguing that the shield can’t shoot laser beams, it’s not meant to! Understand this and move on, the sooner you move onto Axe or Sword the better off you will be.

Hundred blades should not root you for 3.5 seconds. Projectile reflection or not.

You are still affected by other forms of dps. You can still be CCed.

The duration should be dropped significantly. There is no other solution to it except making it mobile and even then anybody can dodge it.

It just requires tons of setup while a single thief heart seeker does the same damage with zero setup , instantly and zero cool down.

I’m not sure why warrior players keep compromising and negotiating around their crappy abilities while not noticing how easy the other classes have it.

That is a issue that ANet will have to fix someday. Not only with thief. They need to nerf the damage to classes, skills with low risk/high reward. Someday they will do it.

I dunno why your posting here instead of the thief forums.

The class has been broken and left alone since launch due to devs incompetence/laziness in balancing the class. You barely touched on the multiple imbalances of the class.

You can’t chain stun a thief who knows how to abuse the class etc due to sword shadow step. It breaks stun and bypasses immobilize. It is more powerful than our 40s cool down utility skill stability..

If you want to vent your dissatisfaction go post in the 80+ page thread complaining about thieves since launch.

The class is OP and everyone knows it and all the arguments against the balance are L2P etc as are all the usual arguments by people being carried by their class -mesmers/guardians-.

I suggest you either roll a thief, post on the thief forum thread complaining about the balance or do both.

I don’t think Sanny uses HB or staggering blow much in his fights(cause they root him and a immobile warrior is a dead warrior)so that extra second isn’t much of a game changer. He wants as much damage as he can get to go towards his burst opportunities. At least that’s what I gather from reading what he’s wrote.

Probably because 2 sec stun isnt that long to weapon swap do half of a HB then WW. 3 secs is though.

Meh just use sword. 4 sec immobilize.

Imob is affected by condi reduction food, is also allows full use of abilities so ppl can counter your burst.

Not many thieves -and even some mesmers- run condi reduc food. Even with reducing 4sec immob duration by 40% then it is still more than 4 sconds. I’d say >2 secs and maybe averages to 3secs just like the duration averaging on stuns using sigil of paralyzation. it is still significant on a 7-9 sec cool down and easily applied after sword 2 gap closer.

You don’t get a 100b off, you interrupt it by a GS3 to get the rest of the damage off. No warrior stunner has mobility on it as good as a sword.

Even when the 4 sec immob is off i hate finishing a normal 100b because you are a sitting duck for a 2nd player.

Legit question. Imho, some classes are meant to have stealth while others don’t. For example, thief and mesmers have it such for mobility or deception, thus making use of stealth as means of survivability etc. Some classes, such as warriors, don’t have it, especially in pvp, because it’ll tip the balance of classes. If warrior does have such skill or access to stealth in some way, warrior would be quite OP. This regards pvp, however.

And that is why you get owned and thieves/mesmers don’t.

Thanks for your informed opinion about warrior balance/ how awesome signet warrior is and how signet of might+cc interrupts blocking (it doesn’t..)

Some people should stick with their thief class to help carry them instead of posting misinformed opinions.

Signets, useless? No i believe not.
If the signets are used correctly, it can change the tide of the battle in your favor.
For example, the new signet of might may seem useless, but if you look at it this way, having your next few attacks being unblockable is not bad. Lets say your are fighting a guardian or engineer that is blocking, you can just bull charge ’em or some other cc skill or even go straight to bursting while activating signet of might. Even if you do not activate this signet, having 180 power is quite good enough on its own.

Another is signet of rage. This can arguably be one of the best elites around, and having signet cooldown decreased by 20%, that goes from 60 seconds to 48 seconds, this signet is not bad.

I can go on with each signets if used in each situation, but each signets has its purpose. Full blown signet build, on the other hand, is not bad, not saying its good either, but if you running full signet passively and not using them, then thats all on your playstyle.

Buffing signets? yes i agree, i believe some signets are lacking.
Removal of signets? No i disagree, there’s reasons why they are there.

I stopped reading after you said CC+signet of might interrupts blocking..please don’t post this crap. It doesn’t.

Signets are good? You know what we call a signet warrior in WvW? Free badges. And in spvp? The only other class/build that is a guaranteed kill for me as a warrior.

Signet of rage is a crap elite. One of the best elites around..really..?

Better than a mesmer’s:
CC which prevents you from using any of your abilities while being bursted down?
AOE quickness?
Mass invisibility -10ppl stealth-

Or an Engineers Supply crate drop?

Or a guardian’s that resets their their virtues making them able to spam block 3 times in a row, 3 condition removals, retaliations etc etc depending on how they trait AND gives them 3 seconds of invulnerability to everything.

Or a ranger’s 20 sec of stability even.

We have 30 sec of boons as our elite which can be stolen by a thief’s regular weapon attack that is spammable. Those ‘amazing’ boons that every other class has access to from utility skills, weapon skills, runes etc.

Few ppl pass on r mobile strikes or even the 9% crit chance trait for reduced cool down on a single signet.

How do I kill a guardian?

Well after changing around some stuff to mess around I ended up going back to my Lyssa runes setup, which is 3 pieces of knight and 3 berserker. Ate some lemongrass still because I can’t seem to frown away from it even when not specced in defense line. Use FGJ, Bulls Charge, and Balanced Stance. Specced 10/30/0/0/30. Picked up a Rifle.

The key to this build for me? Sigil of Generosity on my rifle and Sigil of Nullification on my Greatsword. I was cracking up when I was on a guardian guys. This strat really happened.

Started with basic attacks with Rifle. The bunker guardian opened up with Chains of Light and my crit hit put it on him. He rooted himself. I landed a full volley on him. He’s about 50% health already. I land one more auto attack to make sure Aegis is down and he didn’t expect me to switch to GS and charge him. I did that, landed him on his rear, and then I nullified his protection and took him out.

I have to say at first i was skeptical but 60% to give back a condition and 60% to take a boon away from someone is pretty kitten often when you’re pushing 80%+ crit.

Everyone knows this con – little survivability. Key is to kill before you get killed honestly. And it’s easy to do it.

Sadly, there is an internal CD on the Nullification of 10 seconds.

Yea I noticed this too. This is why I think I am going to keep generosity on my gun and switch to bloodlust on my greatsword to stack power. I think generosity is still worth it as long as if you aren’t running dogged march, melandru/hoelbrak runes, and lemongrass because conditions bounce too fast off you to even be generous and give them back to someone else.

You should never use stack weapons as equipped weapons. Use the sigils on a weapon in your bag and switch it out to another weapon when your done stacking.

How do I kill a guardian?

If he is channeling and invul, my best bet is he is using his elite. If he is using shouts and recovering from CC, he is most likely running soldier runes. Fighting a guardian, especially a tanky one by the looks of it, personally, ya gotta prolong the fight. Usually be aggressive and time your attacks.
I might be the first to say, try guardians out.

no hes using his 6 heal. block while healing, normally I telegraph after that he pops his elite and becomes invuln again.

It depends on what build and weapons you’re using against him.
In that kind situation, if you have CC weapons, i would’ve recommended using signet of might and interrupt him in his block. And can go for the kill.

CC doesn’t interrupt blocking with signet of might..

I get it now, all this time I misunderstood you, I thought you wanted most weapons and classes viable, but it has become clear to me that all you care for is representation of classes and to push people away from PvP. Well consider it done, im not going to keep supporting a company that all that brings month after month is disappointment when its quite clear what needs to be done about class balance. I dont know where you have been spending the money I have spent on this game but definitely class balance isnt.

Please clean the game up before adding new content every month! Hire at least 1 person per class for team balance! This is the only thing holding this game back from being great. More than 9 months since release, by now you would expect it.

The solution proposed by Anet as seen by leaving the mesmer class largely as is is to roll one.

I don’t see what the problem is. Just roll a mesmer/guardian/thief or whatever fotm class is.

They are busy with the dragon bash and all and have breathing room to ignore the customers since ESO is in spring ’14.

With a rune set and sigil this class is able to build and maintain 25 stacks of might thats 875 power 875 condition damage through out a fight resulting in the most over powered dps in the game.

Necros are scarce in the spvp because HGH has taken their place why have boon stripping along to counter bunkers when you can bring a class with such strong dps that you can just burn through their boons with dps alone along with any reinforcements.

When faced with any melee opposition they just grenade their feet and kill them in seconds. My thief can withstand 1k blades from a war, but one grenade shot from HGH engineer and he is down.

Do necros need a buff sure, but this is our real balance problem.

You must be a baddy to play a mesmer/thief and still get owned. Guess OP classes can’t carry everyone. Mayhaps you should familiarize your self with common tactics and other classes abilities.

Protection Warrior Build ?

It depends on the definition of support . Warrior may as well be a bad pure boon support , but a bad tank, i think not .

Warrior can be a great offensive tank . Hammer and dual maces come to mind . Lots of stuns , interrupts , knockdowns and the like . And a good amount of natural vitality and toughness . This game offers lots of opportunity for hyperbole builds , but seeing how most people play cookie cutter, you are expected to as well, otherwise you wont be able to PuG instance content .

Therein lies the problem .

Guardian is a better offensive or defensive tank in spvp. Protection will trump all the toughness/vit you can get which also renders your damage kinda weak.

Guardians will have better survivability compared to your full tankiness and still dish out better dps while you sacrificed all yours to be an inferior tank.

sPvp is not about if you can be a good tank etc. Its all about can another class do it better. Nobody in their right mind would take a tank war over a guardian in high end tourney.

The sad thing is the class you will be most effective against is another warrior.
