They didn’t. It’s just a silly way of pairing up servers that is almost the same as the ones before.

They are unwilling or uncapable of addressing things that favor mass numbers and zerging in this game and no amount of server pairing schemes will help.

I think this league was just an excuse to make cash off of people stupid enough to pay for server transfers.

They don’t care about WvW except to squeeze server transfer money from you -which they likely have-.

Welcome to what the smart people realized 3 months into the game.

The people you see now are prob pvers giving spvp a shot before quitting the game.

Once wildstar comes out it’ll canabalize the gw2 pvers and since the company ncsoft owns both games..anet won’t do anything to stop it.

The PvP\pve in wildstar will be a rip off of gw2 and even more imbalanced. The thief class can create clones..I kid you not..lol. Best way to balance two broken classes in a game? Combine them into an even more broken one in a new game..

ESO might be your best bet but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The lack of man and willpower to address gw2 non pve problems is NOT the concern of the customer.

Gw2 was a great learning experience for me..avoid any anet or ncsoft products if you are looking for a fun and good PvP experience.

anet is actually unblocking people who have a history of buying with real cash from the gem store. That is how desperate they are Now.

Consider this. They are changing the animation on skull crack to make it easier to read, which I agree 100% with. All animations should be unique and readable yet nothing has been done about asura. smh doesn’t cover it.

To answer your question more exactly. All classes are viable in zerg fights. The only classes that tend to not be wanted as much are thieves and rangers.

Thieves are not as many people play builds better suited to roaming and duels and are quite glassy (rallybots). However, they are excellent squishy killers and general mayhem makers in zerg fights. They can spam poison clouds and effectively stop a regroup by themselves. They also can spike those pesky necros and eles.

Rangers tend to be looked down upon as other professions can handle what a ranger can do to a higher level. This includes CC, water fields, and ranged damage. That said, don’t let it discourage you from playing ranger in a zerg. I don’t know exactly what builds to use, but a melee ranger can be quite good while mixing in CCs such as Entangle. Just be aware that people will probably comment on it. Just live longer than them in the fight and laugh as you grab your loot bags.

That said, guilds tend to have compositions they want filled before having these two last professions played. The Warrior/guard/necro trinity at the moment is the meta and often times people only think those three professions are involved. Each guild is different so try asking around to see what they are looking for. Also, maybe roll and alt in one of the main zerg professions. It can’t hurt and would allow you flexibility!

I find it funny that people overlook the protection buff as well as the invulnerability abilities in the game which are much more OP -and causing imbalance- than regular healing.

The guardian class is more imbalanced than any healing class I’ve seen in any game before. It’s worse in pve due to stat spikes and lack of boon duration nerf.

The removal of healers killed the pvp group synergy. They should have stuck with limiting or removing the role of healers in pve and left them alone in pvp.

The GW2 devs have proven they tend to push their own version of things -shoving underwater combat down our throats, for example- on the expense of balance and pvp enjoyment.

Roll another class, try and reset fights, attach whenever you want without being blocked, get out whenever you want, use abilities when stealthed, teleport hack(shadowstep) as many times as you want to bypass CC and immob.

You can’t. Only class that can do this is thief and to a lesser degree a mesmer that uses -surprise surprise!- the broken stealth mechanic.

I’m glad Anet introduced this mechanic in this game. That way I know if I am ever going to enjoy fun or competitive pvp I should never purchase any of their -or NCsoft- products.

Guard Leech, Applied Fortitude Brokenly OP

Really? I roam/duel most of my time in WvW, I don’t have either leech or fortitude, and it’s never seemed to stop me staking/downing (if duel) another player that does have it.

I also run into my friend’s 9 year old son who plays a toon with all the guard killer+defense against guards buffs, food, consumables and it’s never seemed to stop me staking/downing him..

See what I did there?

You won’t win if you run into a player of similar “skill” with those buffs.

I also suggest playing a non-handicap class that abuses broken stealth mechanics and unlimited get out of jail cards to compensates for one’s failings e.g.mesmer. Try playing a warrior after the incoming nerf (without attempting to run away when you start losing). I’m sure you will just kick as much kitten ..

In this game it’s the class/build that makes you..not the skill. Adding stats in wvw and lack of boon duration nerf etc etc in wvw makes the imbalances worse.

Hammer+ Sword/X

Hammer has the best AOE cc in the game

Sword has the best single target cc in the game

off hand should be either warhorn for condi conversion into boon, vigor. aoe weakness, aoe immob removal.

Or mace for an extra cone cc..kinda ok..

Or shield for block.

I find warhorn with quick breathing the best support

Forget about doing damage with that weapon seup once the new patch pops in.

DPs builds are another thing.

Some of us are looking for small roaming groups for possible transfers.

So I thought we should update the current 5-10man guilds after the majority quit.
1.List your server or opposing server.
2.Name of guild on your server/other servers running a regular 5-10mans -weekend only guilds don’t count-.
3.Composition and use of voice chat -as this reflects how dedicated your group is-.
4.Are your current match ups favourable for such groups (don’t care what the zerglings on your own server think)

The Death of Zerk Hammer

The idea we’re operating under:

If you want AOE CC, bring a hammer. If you want burst or DPS, bring an axe or a greatsword.

I agree with the 1st part but not the 2nd.

Greatsword is still terrible as a DPS weapon because 100b is 3.5 seconds in channeling..in one direction..while standing still..while exposed to reciprocal damage or damage from other targets..while being susceptible to interrution. Why are we the only class that has to be punished for trying to actually play and do dps?

Engineers have a PULL on their weapon set -toolkit or whatever you want to name it- with zero cool down on weapon (toolkit) switching..yet warriors being the main melee class that actually has to close in on the target has zero pulls. I’d take a pull over GS5 interruptable slow charge any day.

Quickness has been nerfed to the ground and slotting it in order to get a 100b off every 60 second is not practical.

In this game’s pvp, standing still is death and that is what 100b is about. GS 3 is good and as for 4+5..why do we have to have our abilities wasted on gap closing instead of being ranged like the rest of the classes?

You talked about changing GS abilities but so far: nothing. Rarely does anyone use it anymore because LB is superior since it sadly join the: Fire and forget train of thought as well as being ranged so no need to struggle with actually reaching your target.

Axe is melee in a range/condi game. Also, Axe requires 3 consecutive hits to achieve its max after being nerfed for what I assume is a silly attempt to reign in pve farming. Axe off hand dps is weak and Axe 5 suffers from the same problem that 100b does.

Nope.

Best roaming class for starters is thief due to having highest handicap in the game.

Then comes the engineer once you spend time around a bit. They will be the next OP class. You just need a bit more practice with engineers and not everyone does the right build/uses right abilities.

Watch some of the good roamer engy vids.

Both these classes have good mobility which is what you need in zergy zones.

Warriors will drop due to upcoming nerfs.

I mean not because I’m crying for nerfs, I play hammer warrior myself, but I don’t rely on uf or run the 10/30/30 build

But because I’m expecting a large drop in warriors because all the people crying about the nerfs will reroll to something else (engies IMO are going to be the next “OP” class in wvw)

I feel like after this, I can be unique as a hammer warrior again, or that’s just my expectations

Crazy mobility if you know how to use them. The mobility is close to a GS, Sword/WH warrior. Just check some of the roamer engys who know how to faceroll a keyboard.

What if consumables are not an option for some reason (e.g. out of money)? Also, does the increase in condition damage significantly outweigh the direct damage from berserker gear? Originally, I ran this build with a soldier set, but it felt a bit slow at killing.

Soldier with UF is decent. You can pressure people to lose 1v2.

Say you went full Rabid, your damage output will still be ok but not fast enough to kill some people who are smart enough to run.

Try going full rabid, regen banner. Dogged march isn’t worth it if you are using LB(range), Sword for leaping and got cleansing ire. The minor traits in that line aren’t that better, anyway.

Obviously use the crystals, food and stack weapons in your bags. Out of money is not an excuse. There are slightly worse and cheaper versions. Same goes for stack sigils.

I tried going full rabid with apothec trinkets like pineapple did but the damage was a bit low so 1/4 of my targets got away. You do have superior survivability to outlast two baddies. Healing stats are inferior in this game so you won’t lose or gain much by dropping or using them.

Please.. the whole stealth system is broken and is a crutch for bad players who play those classes to have an advantage.

Give them a warrior and tell them to do the same thing and they will quit and go back to those broken classes.

The warrior got the worst and most significant nerfs.

Who cares? People left or are leaving the game with BF 4, Titan and ESO on the horizon.

How are havocs functioning with fully qued zergs on T1 servers? Even before the pver influx it was too zergy.

When you say havoc do you mean capping camps and avoiding zergs? If I remember correctly, most of the roamers are in the mid to bottom servers.

G’luck – grass is not greener (more like over-fertilized with brown spots everywhere).

8 80s here (all classes) and Guardian is actually better in every respect except appearance, solo-farming, and (a very minor difference) in burst damage which is easily offset by “burst reactionary” defense.

You forgot about 20k Killshots. Now with ascended gear you can mix-max berserker and one shot most people in wvw. If not, just finish em off with a volley.

Its funny how anet loves zerker gear. DPS DPS DPS. They even got rid of the trinity for DPS DPS DPS. You’re allowed to mix max for pure dps but you can’t do that with condition builds since ascended condition gear is borked.

You 20k ppl who are zerkers. So it balances out. I actually PLAY a maxed zerk for fun and I never 1 shot anyone who isn’t zerker.

Zerk Thieves drop zerk targets in the time it takes you to channel KS. I see it all the time when running with guild zerk thieves.

Also, dodge KS. Easiest move to dodge block blind interrupt.

If you are getting one shotted in a zerg then you are in the front line wearing glass cannon gear. That’s the price you pay.

Watching on my phone, 20k HP or 26k?

20k hp… and he is so kitten durable…

Regarding the durability:
He has a guardian popping prot on him

He pops the 3 stances then runs away leaving his team to fend off for them selves. Simply dodge out of the hammer burst, go for he backline of his group and take down a squishy. Then go back to the war and finish him.

Gotta love GS wars in group fights because they run off and leave the rest of the their team to pick off and when they come back..all their timers are off and we pick them off. Bad GS wars, that is. When you use gs3+5 to run..it takes time to walk back to the fight.

Running away and leaving your team isn’t that productive. You are supposed to stay and pump aoe stuns every 7 secs.

Sadly GS in group fights is mostly for running away.

I’d rarher stay in and help my group with LB or s/w as a second set -given the aoe benefit of lb and the aoe benefit of warhorn+ best single immob in game.

What’s the point of filming zerg fights when it constitutes running away from bad pvers and being proud of it?.

The devs implemented mechanics that don’t reward skill. This game favors stealth and numbers over skills heavily. Worst of any mmo.

The smart pvpers realized that 3 months into the game and ditched it.

Hey guys returning player planing to make a new character for WvW but everyone and there uncle seems to be a Guardian.

Is there a reason for this?

Id prefer to play a class that is needed/viable but underplayed any suggestions?

Lack of boon duration Nerf, basic immunity to damage abilities, the Nerf of corrupt boon and the ease of playing the guardian class lead to outrageous and broken survivability. I stopped playing my guardian a long time ago because the class is a boring keyboard faceroll one.

Any competitive small groups run 2 boon guardians. Always needed in zergs for aegis spam, aoe prot, aoe stab. The class will be vwven more broken in wvw come mid Oct.

As for a needed class, good dedicated cc wars are hard to find. On my server, at least.

I doubt it.

I’d rather not make any assumptions. So far, Anet hasn’t disappointed me, except for the bug which is party can’t kick offline, and inability to reset WXP, and the introduction of ascended gear stats.


For population of servers, the only solution is to promote your server. Give reasons for players to choose your server over another, and help them get there. Having a home is the easiest way for a community to grow. It’s where you belong and have pride among others.

PPT is just a bonus, it’s who you play with which allows you to enjoy the game. (at least that’s how i go about it)


Sad to say we push all of our problems to anet, of which we can really fix ourselves. Games are mere extensions of a glorified chat application.

Obvious fan boy will be obvious.

Anet should hire you for PR spinning since your moto is blame the customers not the providers. Fits well with the Anet dev team vision.

Sounds like why SPvP sucks… avoid the fight as much as possible. This is Anets vision of good WvW. Swap towers, avoid fights with actual players = get rewarded.

Yep. I see commanders avoiding fighting other zerg clusters all the time.They are content with flipping towers and keeps against NPCs or siege.

This was before the ascendant gear crafting mat crap and I have no idea why people who are afraid of pvp -it’s a game..- come to WvW. Pathetic and what is even more pathetic is the Anet wvw devs rewarding them.

I don’t blame servers for quitting wvw for the week or even longer.

Imagine going into Halo and having to fight 3 people all gunning for you -zerg-, you can only damage one of them at a time (AOE cap)-, all they have to do is press 1 repeatedly and they can revive each other if one of them dies with zero penalty..repeatedly..

That game would be the joke of the gaming community..just like this one and it’s devs are.

Another terrible match up this week. HoD vs. ET vs. IOJ. ET has no presence and as for HoD..well..look at the attached pic..IOJ is the red color..HoD is the green.

I have zero faith in the devs -past on terrible past performance and use of logic- in fixing this with the new match up system.

Until they treat the cause, this will continue.

Guardian in Small Group Roaming

Perma-swiftness is a huge help in small group roaming, but this is a real weakness for Guardians.
If run with a group that can help you out with extra swiftness buffs, then Guardian is great for roaming.

Guardians dealing with swiftness in a small group means it’s a small group.

You bring guardians for protection and stability. Leave the swiftness to the warrior in the group.

Just switch in and out your warhorn from your bag and stop being lazy.

LoL. One trick pony. If the pony only has one trick, what’s the problem?. Sounds to me like a lot of people keep falling for the same trick over and over again. The only problem I’ve had with the stunlock pony was a player using the candy cane skin on the hammer. That made it difficult to see. If I see a mace or a hammer, I know what to expect. Range-blind-protection-block-evade-stunbreak have all pretty much ensured If i win, it was because I played smart, if I lose..then they mixed the timing up so they weren’t predictable and remained efficient. I still credit that to them as skillful. I serious believe once you’ve fallen victim to the stun chain 7-8 times you stop falling for it after that. Much the same as if you play enough mesmers, you soon learn to spot which one in the on screen mess is the actual player pretty quickly.

Yep QFT. Summed up nicely. I don’t see why we should nerv a valid builds because some people don’t learn from their mistakes and fall for the same thing over and over again.

Anyway the only problem would be people waiting for you to start 100b before using their stun break, making it tricky for the combo to reset.

But then again the concept of stun breakers countering stun-based builds isn’t a bad one.

Why would they wait for your 100b, i don’t get it, they see you switch to gs, its obvious that you are going to use 100b or any other dps skill gs provide.

Because they would of spent adrenaline on that 100b.

And to XII, ‘raising the skill floor’ rotationally speaking isn’t necessarily the same as nerfing. It just makes the game more interesting/prevents you dying to idiots.

You’ve been dying to idiots playing thieves, mesmers and guardians and face roll eles. I don’t see how when some of our builds are effective you cry nerf.

The only explanation I see is you got owned by a warrior playing the spec. Sorry but I don’t buy the :‘I want there to be more skillz with a warriorz’ bull crap.

I quit my Guild and WvW a couple months ago because WvW is repetitive. I only pop in to check out the new PVE stuff when it comes out, see thakittens mostly more grind for superficial stuff, and log out.

The inevitable fate of GW2. Devs just coming up with ways to squeeze the money before ppl quit a now stale game.

The mechanics devise by the genius devs lead to this. What you are seeing is the result of having bad ppl manage a great product: It becomes a terribad product.

Encouraging zergs with AOE limits, Downed state etc.

Just remove the downed state. You want your buddies to revive you>>spvp/pve that way.

If you are so bad you die to a group half or 1/3 your number then you deserve to run back from the wp.

Our small skirmish guild is effectively dead. We have two active WvW members left. Granted most of us have put in well over 1k hours into the game but stale WvW and boring PvE has pushed our members into other games. Hopefully a big patch will hit and bring them back course with the latest class changes to WvW I have been thinking it is time for a break.

That is how Anet rewards pvpers. The sooner you ditch the game and move on the better. Why reward a company that ignores your needs but still takes your money?

Simply put: They alienated and lost the majority of the pvp base in WvW and sPvP. They realize their tactics to make money off of pve and ignoring pvp lead to that.

It is easier for them to focus on pve now since they lost the pvp base. Now they are making WvW PVE/zerg/casual player friendly.

I’d seek competitive pvp in another game.

I’ve consistently said we are doing 2 leagues in NA and 3 in EU. The leagues will be broken up strictly by world rating at the conclusion of the matchup prior to the league start.

They must have:

A.Squeezed what they could from server transfers and/or ppl quitting was too much.

B.Came back from vacation.

I loled at the LFG system in there. More than a year into the game with no lfg system. Hire the guy who came up with the LFG website as he seems to have more competence in his pinky the person responsible for the lfg system.

where there is competition their will always be cheaters.

You play a thief class so there is no competition. Just the class carrying you.

Play a warrior and see how well you do in WvW.

FYI, you won’t be able to reset the fight repeatedly..

Only terribad thieves lose to warriors.

This isn’t a fight. This is you running away repeatedly to reset the fight and keep trying until you get lucky. Thieves do the same thing. I’m still up in the air about which is more pathetic. A thief constantly resetting fights or a warrior built for running away. Maybe they are just both equally pathetic.

Kinda like what thieves do.

I stopped running apothecary condi builds because some classes just run away when they are losing and I don’t dish out enough dps to bring them down.

Server match ups are improving in lower tiers..because people are quitting =D.
