To answer the title Q:
For you to roll a thief, leave the game or be content with being farmed by thieves.
I thought their little to no action in balancing the thief class/not hiring a competent dev to balance the class for a full year was a clear message?

And you need 5 charged crystals per armor/weapn/jewelry piece..
That means you need 2 months and 5 days of contentious farming to get a full set of exotics?
This is what we should be expecting? I kinda vaguely remember someone from Anet saying this won’t be a grind except for cosmetics -legendaries/skins etc-
Also, are the crafted items account bound? Soul bound? Tradable?
That means you have to have crafted an item to get that recipe from the MF, right? How did anyone craft one if it requires 10 charged crystals (10 days) per item?
There are already satchel/box recipes on the TP.
You don’t have to be squishy to get destroyed by back stab GC thieves..
You don’t need to be squishy to be dropped instantly by two targets you can’t see half the time.
The problem is thieves can get away with being glass cannons. The sooner the devs nerf stealth : revealed when hit, Significant restealth inhibition- the sooner wvw will be fun for everyone and people will stay.
The only people they are serving are those who rely on a class -thief- to carry them. Guess what..once more people leave, those players will leave too.
But again Anet devs were known to leave classes OP in GW1 while they were playing them. Who knows..
Whomever is looking after the thief class balance is a joke and will be remembered as such for future MMOs to come.
So your suggestion to make WvW more fun is to do more of the same that is pushing people away?
Remove the AOE limit. No downed state.
Actually do your job and balance the classes/fix stealth/nerfs in spvp carry to wvw? Boon duration nerf lacking? Just a thought.

Is Anet looking into this or just ignoring it? Pretty sad that people complain they want something different for server match-ups and then the change they make is worse then it was to start with.
Blame it on Devon Carver. Last I checked, he’s the only proponent for this. Hope he can heft the bill when the customers ditch the product.

As you’ve seen there is tons of QQers about thieves, and offhand sword would mean less of them however at the thief side we get more than 1 stealthless viable build. And dont say that oh thief is too weak to have offhand swords. cuz thats not an factor at all.
and that bigger sword offhand issue, well many ppl are lefthanded i see no problem the characthers can be that. i would even pay very mutch $$$$$ and £££££££ for it ftw xdDD
Thieves have it the easiest/best exploitation mechanics yet they are the most demanding. Amusing.

Check the earlier versions in the forums and ignore any non-Avliss builds. The GS+axe/shield is very good for dropping ppl when you are not being focused and has good mobility.
There was a good hammer/GS one but I can’t seem to find the video. That might be your best bet for group play.
As for asking fellow guild warriors..yea..because we all know if they are in one’s guild then they know their class.

If you are zerging in WvW then hammer/healing banners. Works in pve, too. Guardians are more effective in that aspect.

I’ve seen this suggested somewhere by a fellow warrior among other things I just can’t remember where. In any case, I thought this suggestion was brilliant. How great would it be if Rush just worked like Ranger’s GS Swoop (#3). The mechanic and design is already there, they would just need to update it so the warrior can use it too instead of this dumb Rush ability that works half the time due to longer travel time.

Uh huh..it is EXACTLY like gw2/wow/warhammer/daoc/AOC..
It is. Used to be affected by paralyzation sigils but not anymore.
Guardians are boring and predictable as kitten compared to warriors. Their mobility isn’t that good in WvW, too.
The only skill required is rolling your face across the keyboard once in a while with guardians.
This game is about PvE. The sooner people realize that and leave/stay the happier they will be.
Hearing =/= taking action. Too slow a response in balancing has lead a lot of people to leave spvp and subsequently WvW.
It’s bad enough that we have to deal with the fail downed state/underwater fighting/ broken mechanics/ lack of group synergy due to removal of healers.
But waiting months for a fix? Necro downed state health? How long did that take to fix? Long enough to lose more customers, I’m sure.

It is bad. Sorry, but that is WvW with a full berzerker build, full exotic zerker gear with ascended zerker amulets, and banner of discipline, signet of might, and FGJ. Full zerker is not good in wvw.
The video was unfortunately broken into pieces showing you owning opponents, so we could not really see how often you died, but obviously, with that gear and setup, you died alot.
You took a total of 26 Killshots in the video, with another 4 that you cancelled. Two of the killshots were evaded (again these were in the middle of your 3v3 sequences at the start, I have no idea how many were evaded that didn’t get shown). Your highest Killshot was indeed 24.4k against an upleveled light armour character, who was neither fighting nor using skills. Your weakest Killshot was 10.7K against a level 80 necro. Your mean average for all the shown killshots which were not aborted is 13.7K, most of those against upleveled opponents.

The whole class from head to toe is a fail in stealth class design of epic proportions. most broken stealth mechanics ever. People will look back at this horrible design and just laugh at the idiotic 12yo who came up with the ideas.
The person who came up with these mechanic should not be hired for any future class design in any game if they even dream of any balance.

The players who play the thief class actually think it is fair. What can you expect from people relying on handicaps to win and from the special needs dev that supports them. Must be related to the WvW one.
Probably the most entertaining GW2 video I’ve seen. It just makes me sad how awesome GS is relative to our other weapons.
I think every weapon has its uses TBH. You would be surprised how many ppl think using GS makes you a noob.

From what I understand, the biggest reason for AoE cap is the calculation cost. It’s easy to think, “But there’s only 12 conditions.. how hard can that be to compute?!” The problem comes in when you look at how conditions are implemented and how many people there are. ANet needs to consider the absolute worst case because it could potentially happen: each player has 25 stacks of 12 conditions which is 300 stacks. Each of those stacks has an individual timer that updates every tick(one second). Suppose a total of 600 people are in the map (is 200/team a decent estimate?) that’s 180,000 condition stacks updating every second. Not to mention player positions, chat, camp/tower/keep statuses, siege has health, doors/walls have health, and npcs/monsters can receive conditions too… Then each and every client has to be updated constantly with the new information. This is a close to worst-case scenario but you can see how it can get out of hand very quickly even with smaller battles.
P.S. This is way over-simplified. I know not all conditions are implemented like this but they still take additional calculations when new stacks are added.
DAOC with NF had much bigger RVR maps, and game calculated (you could get it at any moment using /stat command) your amount healed, realm points earned, kills, deaths and few other stats for each player. Each animist could put up to around 60 pets, and theurgists were pretty good with putting up lots of pets too.
Pentium 4 based Xeon processors at 1.4GHz just came to market. Skills were positional (and there were MANY of them…game at the end had 46 classes I think)
AOE was very powerful and also uncapped, killed 40-50 people few times with healer/warlock duo in just few seconds.

Okay so today I was doing the JP in EB; and as everyone knows there pretty much an unspoken rule that you don’t attack other realm people doing the same JP as you are trying to get to the same goal.
Well apparently a bunch of jerks from Gate of Madness wanted to camp the dome top right before the chest, killing every who didn’t attack them but right before they jumped to the platform off the dome.
I like WvW but when you have a bunch of griefers taunting you right at the end of grabbing the final prize anet needs to allow us someway to report these people. It’s pretty petty and frustrating that these people have nothing better to do but to be jerks.

I know it’s a unspoken rule to not grief the WvW jump puzzles. For as long as I’ve been playing I’ve ran through them with rival shards and even helped them get around and vice versa has been done for me. But what do we do when a server has guilds that do nothing but grief the WvW JPs? I play on Devonas rest and this run through Sorrows Furnace has done nothing but grief the Oblivion Sanctum and several guilds are the culprits. Now I’ve heard nothing but bad things about this server that make me think it’s filled with nothing but trolls. What should we do then when dealing with those that break this unspoken rule? I say we retaliate till the greifer guilds disband. Why shouldn’t we fight back?

Why are you using the berserker stance? Just use the Signet of endurance instead for condition removal on a 36s cool down.
I’m guessing you will basically save your elite for stability.
Without dogged march or mobile strikes you might have a hard time against spam immob/crippe/chill and you only have one gap closer (hammer burst). I’m not sure if you are intending on fighting on top of a node the whole time.
For roaming just switch out of your hammer or mace/shield into sword/warhorn to travel then switch back when about to go into combat.

Lol I agree with bry. There is kittening a 100 threads about warriors being bad I agree the warriors are not meta atm, but everyone is acting like warriors can’t do anything. First L2P the class then post your concerns. There are a lot of tricks with the class you can learn to be successful.
I can spend 1,000 hours learning how to play warrior to a point where it is average to above average in tpvp, or I can play a necro and mesmer for 10 hours and learn how to play it to a point where it is average to above average in tpvp, and then play it for 100 more hours and play it at a point where it is exceptional in tpvp.
That’s the problem in a nutshell.

Just wanted to hop in and mention, again, that the AoE cap on player skills is a technical limitation. Were we to increase that, skill lag would get considerably worse.

If they can’t fix the orbs..why makes you think they can deal with AOE on more than 5 targets?

So you want to design wvw to get away from zerging but due to the technical limitations of your servers and the effect they have on aoe limitations you can’t? And yes 5 player cap on aoe means it is easier to group up to reduce damage and cc.
One thing to remember. A lot of us LIKE zerging. Changing the gameplay away from that would lose a lot of players. Instead, there need to be some newer smaller maps that cater to people such as yourself who want smaller scale combat.
I think many of us have no problem with zerging, it’s just that the balance and mechanics of WvW are massively tilted towards zerging and that’s wrong.

First of all, lets just establish the glaring fact that warriors have never been as bad as people have cried about in the past 10 months. For those that do not know, warrior has always had access to the best body cleave in the game. If by some way the opposing team is able to res a downed player, while you or any other warrior is hundred blading it, it because you either reacted too slowly to the dead body, or the rest of your four teammates are literally standing there doing nothing as 2-3 opposing players res their teammate. Then there are the people that complain about warriors not being able to win a 1v1 for their life, when if fact, considering most people run a greatsword build, if you land a good whirlwind in a 1v1 you should have a good chance of winning that 1v1. Then of course there are the players that still complain about conditions ripping apart warriors. Which at this point, makes absolutely no sense considering that cleansing ire was implemented last patch, essentially allowing warriors to cleanse at least 2 condis every 10 seconds, and sometimes 3. Then of course there are rune alternatives, such as melandru runes that significantly aid warriors against condis, and of course there is signet of stamina, which due to signet mastery now being one of the best choices in the adept tree for the discipline tree, is a full condi cleanse on a 36 cd. That is a decent to a good collection of condition cleanse, considering that warriors are still able to do a good deal of damage even with this cleanse. Yet, of course, people still cry about how they can’t do the same damage if they decide to go the condi clear route, which I personally do not know if it’s because people don’t understand there will also be some sort of counter to every class in every game, in this case conditions countering warriors. Or there is also the possibility that people want warriors to be an unstoppable force that does the same damage, while being immune to conditions entirely. Which leads to the point, where the warrior community it just a microcosm of the entire guild wars 2 na pvp community, as most players would rather be given something on a silver platter, than deal with what they are given. To conclude, I understand the how, of the reasoning behind people crying, which is because this generation expects to just be given things, but the thing that I don’t understand is the why, considering the fact that there is 5 teams on north america, and 1-2 of those teams don’t even care enough to play other than when there’s a tournament of some “significance,” and there is really no reason to try and fix the game when there isn’t even a community to sustain a competitive environment.
I realize that this thread will have no impact on the amount of warrior QQ threads, but alas, tis the life of guild wars 2. I would also like to acknowledge the admirable acts of The Captain Groucharoo, for his efforts in trying to save the undeserving NA Community, but I urge thee to abandon the sinking ship and save yourself. 10 months after release and this is STILL the #1 WvW issue, yet absolutely nothing has been done about it. gee I wonder why people are leaving this game in droves? this game had such potential but again its lead by Devs who don’t give a rats crap about their player base. instead of putting in tiered population caps on boarderlands they keep spending their time on fluff events. the game has no endgame PvP or PvE content at all, I guess its my fault I keep coming back thinking they are listening only to realize once again that im deluding myself, so disappointing. oh well, once all the MMOs on the horizon launch this game will DIE the quick death it deserves.
The programmers and art team did a great job. Amazing graphics and smoothest launch with few bugs relative to other mmorpgs.
The current Dev team is just driving a game with a great potential into the ground.

The trade in dealing so many damages with no mobility, escape mechanisms and lack of design is fair as it’s now.It was predictable by the way with a team which releases an incomplete game and waits 10 months to review the basis of its investiment.
I find it silly that they don’t admit the holy trinity are OP yet keep nerfing the other classes -ranger- or ignoring them -warrior-.

Stun is a completely different effect from Daze. Knockdown and Knockback are disables. Daze/Stun/Knockdown/Knockback together fall under the flag of disables.
Note the difference in description between Unsuspecting Foe and Merciless Hammer.
Wrong, it affects all disables. Did you actually test it or did you go off the tooltips because you should never do that on vague tooltips. Ive tested it and it works like i posted above. Ill give you an example.

Works on stuns only? No it works on all disables, heck it even works on fear. Also does it really on boost disables by 15%. Yes buy since disables are automatically rounded up unlike conditions it basically makes this better than 15% :p
Gratz, now ppl can lol at ya. That sigil works olny on stuns/daze/fear, nothing else. As for Un-Foe trait its also working against stunned/dazed. I been and i still running mace/mace for lul from time to time, if its were affecting knockdown i would know it.

Fear is considered a stun. Some Necros actually run sigil of paralyzation. The sigil doesn’t affect knocks:downs,ups,backs,sideways etc.

Similar build to the OP. Build has been around for a while but you just never see a lot of good roaming warriors -mostly signet/longbow/rifle for some reason-.
Lesson learned. Anet has become terrible at pvp balance and -as was made clear this past year- PVE always comes first.
Doubtful I would buy any future Anet products or ones with the devs from this team hired to work on it in the pvp aspect.

Bottom line is that I mostly play WvWvW solo roaming on my warrior. The build I came up with works great for me and I’ve published ~40 minutes of gameplay to show it vs what Tier 1 WvWvW has to offer. Whatever shortcomings you might have on your warrior, I’m sure you can figure it out on your own.
-You can’t land cleansing ire using your mace burst if you are being kited with chill and /or blinded.. I fail to see your point since you have no way to fight off chill.
-If you have time to farm Orr for a full set, I’m sure you have time to farm 3silver for condi reduc food
-You stunned a wvw player who does not have stability/stun breakers from 50% to 0 health in wvw? Quite an achievement.
-I doubt that your edited video reflects the best fights to be found in EU WvW. Last I checked they had good players. Go to spvp, fight some good players using your build and post it back here.
Since when is posting a vid fighting bad pvpers, still using ground targetting assist and ignoring consumables in WvW make you a good player. Yes..you have pvp experience just not a good one. Last I checked you were the one who claimed posters here don’t know anything about warrior sustainability.

When warrior become OP in WvW or PvE, Thieves, Mesmers, Guardians and all other classes will become Demi-Gods, cause they will have access to the same advantages that warrior.

Just to ‘remind’ some people -not you- of the differences between spvp/wvw/pve:
WvW:
Lack of boon duration nerf/stealth reveal debuff
Stats from gear is more, significantly
Stat redistribution is easer
Access to food/oil/stones including 40% condi reduc food
Ppl run with 25 stacks with stack weapons in their bags and carrying different weapon sigils
Buffs from WvW progress maybe forts, too
Opponents can be under 80, under geared
Ppl run in zergs and judge their class based on that and the above..well..baddies, anyway..
PVE:
All the above+PVE is the easiest of any mmorpg I’ve seen
The Opponent does not move and is predictable that even a brain dead Jackalope can predict the movements
Not a lot of condis applied not kiting/stealth
And plz, don’t make useless mob everywhere in WvW …..
Those are needed for stacking.
