right now I am backing out of traditional MMOs. Prolly check out PS2 on the 20th. But playing with some new mods in Skyrim and FO:NV now.
Still keeping an eye on Elder Scrolls Online but to many things seem like yet another MMO, and WoD but there is very little info on that one.
Something similar for me.
PS2 the 20th and then see what eventually wins out for me.
I wasn’t planning on Elder Scrolls, because I thought GW2 was going to keep me entertained, but now I’m planning on following that game a bit more intently.
There most be multiple paths to achieve the very same power level.
Crafting, PvP and PvE all must provide equal paths to equal power level.
<snip> I don’t think any sort of elitism is forming from this ascended gear. The only exclusive groups I see are the ones that are going for scaled fractals, but they don’t specify any gear requirements.
It will happen sooner, rather than later.
Especially with Ascended gear being needed and build upon for future PvE content.
It has happened in any MMO where gear is a goal as way as a means to the goal.
You can only farm now if you want to run the fractals till your eyes bleed. Good luck LFG if you are just starting now though. Show any dissent and you get flamed into oblivion. I watched LA turn like a swarm of… well… Locusts on a few people in map chat for just asking for invites.
fine with me. I am staying in wvw anyway. i hated the dungeons.
Until all the new PvE gear also makes it into WvW and the power gap starts to show even more.
Free transfers were a mistake from day one, it ruined more than one server.
This will be a factor in WvW and those who do not think so either haven’t played games where PvP was implemented or have forgotten about it.
This will also be a factor for even casual PvE players if ANet continues to build on the concept for the next dungeon and the next dungeon and the next tier of equipment, because it creates the same gated issues that plauge other games.
Only one who wins are the ones that like to grind dungeons. Problem is – many of them aren’t going to shift to this game because you can grind PvE content in a number of games where many already have strong ties to existing characters.
I simply fail to see why ANet would mess over the WvW players like this. Perhaps we weren’t as many as they expected or didn’t leave as many money in the Gem shop as expected?
Oh well – I still see no PvE grind in PlanetSide 2- it’s looking better and better each patch of GW2.
I see people complain they don’t want gear for progression in WvW. It makes it like WoW blah blah. But I know that if they don’t do anything that we can progress towards this game will be deader than dead in a few months. Hell it is already headed in that direction as we speak according to 90% of the people on theses forums. They have to give us progression that makes our toons better. No “Titles” will not cut it. Granz “The Super Awesome” above my head won’t work. I personally think Mythic nailed the PvP progression system in DAoC. Abilities and stat buffs was awesome. But never the less we need something. We need a reason to play this game. Right now there isn’t one.
An issue is that if the progression is gotten by having to grind PvE – WvW players will not bother and find something else.
Mythic learned that the hard way.
So progression is not the issue – PvE progression for PvP is.
I left DAoC the moment the item upgrades were released.
I was in a large and top level RvR guild that has 150 members. 90% of us left without buying the expansion and without ever playing DAoC again until they added the legacy servers.
That’s great and all, But the games overall population increased by 25k after TOA was released, and was that way for an ENTIRE year before WoW was released.
TOA didn’t hurt DAOC, WoW did.. along with every MMO that was released at the time.
And if i see another person talk about how “Oh they released Classic servers and a bunch of people started playing again, that proves TOA is bad” I’m going to die of laughter.
Because people came back because they were new servers, That’s it….Everyone Dog piled onto those servers just like they did Mordred and Andred, and just like those two servers…After people got bored, they left those servers Husks of what they once were. That is why merged Classics into Regular Servers, there simply wasn’t enough people playing them to make them useful.
Only reason people cry about TOA items is they lost in a fight, and needed something to blame for being bad at DAOC.
Naaa – not really.
ToA did ruin DAoC for many of the RvR players, perhaps not so much for the PvE players which did exists in that game.
People did Artifacts, Master Levels, new gear tempaltes simply because they had to because PvE became the deciding factor for RvR.
And many people – myself inclusive – left only because of ToA and did it well before WoW came out.
ToA sunk DAoC like actual Atlantis.
And yes, with the seemingly lack of attention WvW is getting in GW2 versus the PvE and the new gear – I do start seeing similarities.
Don’t worry its gonna get a lot worse with the new gear grind..
Still contemplating whether it’s worth it. Simply have no stomach to run dungeons to grind for gear any-more. Was not what I was going to play GW2 for….. but it looks more and more needed for this game, especially with the new gear tier.
I know a lot of players think these forum’s are usually only filled with the vocal minority of players. The sort of player’s who are upset and feel the need to express their opinions. Most people seem to think that the majority of the player base are content and happy playing the game.
Use caution making that statement people. In my experience for every one person that posts a reply or topic stating they are unhappy, there are usually 3-4 behind them who agree but don’t waste the time posting.
Based on the experiences from many MMOs by now; it does seem the vocal minority is speaking with the same opinion of many of the silent group that just leaves the games.
Since it’s so worthless they might aswell take it out then. It’s interesting when people defend useless abilities.
It should break on damage or atleast a certain amount of damage.
Wouldn’t mind if they removed it and gave the class some AOE so it could at least do something in WvW other than port people around.
Currently WvW uses the same skills as PvE, so PvP balance changes do not have an impact on WvW.
Then it’s time to change that.
Another issue with hiding the name is that we now cannot see whether the account is banned.
There were an account not so long ago that I saw mentioned on the forum over several weeks……. apparently ANet doesn’t want the public and player base to keep track of their actions, or lack of it.
I still think this move by ANet is silly.
I can only hope that world-members will report what they see from their own side and not turn a blind eye because they benefit from cheaters.
Silly change IMO.
None like hackers and most likely someone from their team will report them people wanna win because their good not because of cheats.
Well, many apparently want to win enough to cheat and use the effect of cheaters.
We saw that aplenty when Orbs where in the game and with people taking over keeps which were exploited.
Reducing the ways to report exploiters is just plain silly.
Yeah they just took all the skill out of this game today. So enjoy cheering, but now its only about who has more numbers. Tactics no longer matters. Thanks A-net… Casual players are taking over another MMORPG
There’s nothing casual/hardcore about this issue.
It’s an sPvP nerf where a Mesmer can essentially defend 2 points at one.
The cooldown creates a down time where they can’t cover 2 spots at the same time.
WvWvW doesn’t have this issue since none of the takeable points are within portal distance.
Considering that the portal has short uptime, a mesmer would not be able to ‘cover 2 spots at the same time’ for very long.
So definitely does not seem like a logical argument.
I’ll say it again… siege won’t make much difference vs. a well coordinated turtle group. Well at least a reasonable amount of siege won’t. For those of you who think turtles are easy to beat, just wait. You’ll see.
You’ll have the same issues with a coordinated group regardless.
The real Million Dollar Question is “Will they make another tier with better stats than Ascended?”
If no, then we have nothing to worry about.
If yes, then we have a problem.
Of course they will.
They’ve started the path – why on earth would they not continue it?
<snip>That’s why when I log into WvW in the late / early hours I am not looking at the point score unless if we actually have enough population to make a fight of it.
I just focus on having fun, killing people, and annoying them as much as possible.
<snip>
You’ll find that many players from G.H. don’t look at the score either. It’s meaningless for us. Most do – as you say – have fun killing and annoying.
The battle, not the war, is what we’ve fought for basically since day 1.
so it looks as if im pullin not just my american guild but 1 one other as well we like the peak time for us and im sure gh will since its that perfect time of night in the eu but prime for us so look out piken gh is pulling some of us from the american severs to lay some smackdown too bad ull be asleep and wont see it hahahaha!
~like a whip in the dark not seen but heard~
You will be most welcome. Whip ’em good, yank.
More gear progression is the only way this game will last.
Actually – it’ll make people question why they play this over what they played before that had the same.
And many PvP/RvRers will move on to something else because they’ve never been fond of PvE gear making it into PvP and let alone PvE progression playing a part.
It’s just the beginning. Now all following dungeons will likely require Acsended (or the next) and we’ll likely see new tiers of gear regularly. Maybe not ‘every 3rd month’ – but perhaps every second or fourth.
Siege is a counter to this.
Siege is not brilliant vs this, it is effective I agree.. but all it takes is one mesmer and a portal and that entire turtle is ontop of your siege.
Don’t clumb your siege together – it’s has good range, you can position it strategically.
If placed in the open, things are hard to defend with siege because – well people can flank you easily, so it doesn’t matter if the enemy turtles or not – but chokepoints are yummy if the enemy does that.
Ballistas – especially the upgraded ones – will just cut down that zerg as they pop out of the purple shiny thingy on the ground. (Unless of course the game rendering messes with you again, but that’s a game issue, not a tactic issue).
9 times out of 10, I love it when the enemy zerg turtles up, because it’s free badges. 1 time out of 10, it’s a group that really knows what they’re doing and then I doubt them turtle or not would change anything anyway
The rendering issue is bad enough without it loading custom dyes.
Indeed.
Until people aren’t invisible, there’s no reason to even think of something like this.
<snip>Im not saying the game is bad, its probably the best mmo since the last 8 years, but if its down to sPvP and PvE the RvR community will give up.
Especially with PlanetSide 2 coming out soon with large scale warfare as well.
We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
Well, how is after the first 3 months any better? And if it then comes after 4 months next time?
Also it is gear you must have to do content. That’s even worse than just a new tier.
DAoC was also filled with zergs.
How can that even be mentioned in the same line as exploit? Seriously?
Is eveything an exploit today?
Hit and run and disruption of enemy movement is legit tactic. Even if only one does it.
Finish enemy players, its really annoying to see 30 players auto attacking 1 downed guy!
I’d have to disagree. Finishing players via auto attack is more efficient than the jumping finisher. I’ve seen 10 guys try to do finisher and the down player just counters and lives another 5 seconds. Down players can’t counter auto attacks.
The only time I do a finisher is 1v1.
I agree. Often it is much more profitable to attack the enemy down, rather than run into the middle of the enemy group to try and stomp.
Especially with the knockbacks, teleports and what not many classes have for downed skills.
Plus downed players are a magnet for others trying to ress providing more fun AOE.
If you find G.H. players cheating, please report them – not only to ANet, but also to some of the G.H. commanders/guild leaders you know.
It’ll help us weed them out of the server if we can identify them.
<snip>
That’s what WvW is about. That’s what makes WvW fun. And that’s why Blacktide is in Tier1 and why Gunnar’s Hold dropped 3~4 tiers when the organised guilds left.
<snip>
G.H. didn’t drop tiers because organized guilds left, but because hundreds of players left. Could be hundred of PUG/unguilded WvW players and the result would pretty much have been the same.
Manpower left, and that hurt the coverage even more.
People won’t be happy with this game until the only coordination one needs is the ability to synchronize banging your face against a door.
So it seems.
And the funny thing – each server has the exact same abilities. So it’s not like ‘Uhh, Red Team is OP because they have ……’.
Portal stacking in the open is easy to defend against. Just move back a bit from the big purple shining thingy and place yourself accordingly.
Portal in keep defense/attack – lay down (siege) AOE on the big purple shining thingy. It’s not like they neither have indefinite range nor time they stay open.
It’s not the portal killing people. It’s enemy organization and lack of same which kills you.
(The rendering issues needs to be fixed though, but that’s a universal problem)
It’s simply a lack of manpower, not quality.
The quality of players left on G.H. at the very least matches the quality which moved away from G.H. The numerical number in manpower couldn’t be replaced leaving to more transfers as the WvW focused population dwindles.
It’s a quantity, not quality game, if focusing on the scoreboard and T1.
Quality can turn a battle, but it cannot turn the war in this game. You need numbers for that, you need more coverage and you need fodder to soak up enemies.
And that’s what differs mainly between T1 and TX.
We saw that in the 1 day match period which differed tremendously from the week matches. Suddenly numbers and coverage became important. PvDoor and night coverage was important. And some couldn’t tolerate that because T1 was the important aspect of the game for them (the war), whereas the individual fight (the battle) was important to others. It was very clear based on the /m and /t chat differences – for example when we fought Blacktide in 1 day matches (G.H. won, people was happy and laughed at the enemy zerg which got run over) and the week match (G.H. lost, people complained, and yet still didn’t have respect for night/morning capping zerg).
I’m a huge advocate for ‘play for your own enjoyment’, so I don’t begrudge people transferring/leaving or staying put – but trying to over-represent the situation and ‘impact’ does not really become anybody. Even if wanting some forum drama or egoboosting.
If u don’t bother to check your conquests in case there’s someone hiding you deserve to lose it. I do agree that “portal bombing” is lame due culling issues but then you could ban all thief’s from w3 as well. Stop calling nerf’s due to your own shortcomings.
The rendering bug fix that will come down soon will negate the “portal bombing” strat. It will also but a stop to the permastealth thieves. I highly expect a drastic decline in thief leveling at that point.
Unfortuntaely….. that fix isn’t coming soon
I bought this game to play PvP, not hide and seek.
sPVP is that way. It will be sad day for w3 when developers start to listen ppl like you, who are only capable of mindless zerging and instead of overcoming challenges and adapting to situations they are crying nerfs.
Prett much this.
Portal is made to bypass defense when that defense has a big hole in it or lazy people that dont do clean up.
Remove one of the few actually tactical tools of the game and it will only hurt it.
The “core” was ripped out when those 6 main WvW guilds left GH Slips, as we said then it’s only a matter of weeks before the few remaining guilds find their own servers and KISS moves on to somewhere where they can be carried again.
<snip>
Of course 6 guilds leaving is going to cause issues, and of course that population loss will draw more with them. It’s the vicious cycle of the transfer system.
Saying it was the core is perhaps a bit much, when as much it was simply man power.
We beat Blacktide when we faced them first time. We lost when they could morning cap everything with their zerg and then you moved.
There’s no fault in going for the easier route and wanting 24/7 coverage because PvDoor is an important aspect of WvW, but let’s not make it out to be more than it was.
It’s numbers we lack on G.H. – that’s about all, not the ‘core’.
Transfer Wars 2. Nothing more.
Having spent the entire week playing on Gunnar’s Hold with a few friends, I noticed something that really astonished me.
Gunnar’s Hold is a Tier 6 European server, we came from Sanctum of Rall a Tier 2 US server. Yet I will say that the average player on GH is significantly better than the average player on SoR.
I have to imagine it’s because you guys are a lower pop server with a numbers disadvantage that you’ve had to develope skill in order to survive, but you’re not going to find that same skill level on the more populated US servers. We can’t get people on Teamspeak or Mumble, we can’t get them to carry supply, we can’t get them to build siege, they just want to hack on walls with swords.
I really think a week from now you’re going to want to transfer back. I know we are considering staying here.
I’m glad you found enjoyment on the server.
A lot of G.H. fighting spirit were founded in other games; DAoC , Warhammer and what not. Also when we had day matches, we won most of what we came up against – Blacktide for example was defeated.
G.H.’s curse was that we were too many of too similar demographic. Older, settled, working, family and that meant “no” night coverage, “no” early day coverage.
And that was what caused the first exodus because – naturally – those who wanted to play Tier 1 would move to get 24/7 and getting zerged a lot of the hours of days made the primetime stint a lot harder.
And that caused other people to leave and presto – we have our population issues.
It has meant that those of us who remain in WvW needs to fight harder and harder – but it will be taking its toll, so chances are – ufortunately – that unless reinforcements arrive – more WvW people will move on as well.
It’s the nature of this game, even if that sucks for the ones left behind. But G.H.ians will try to tug along and lets see what happens in the next weeks matchup and the week after.
Those two weeks I suspect will be defining the future of G.H.
Problem is – the WvW focused people who remain behind will find it increasingly difficult to find like-minded people and also be more likely to move.
It’s a vicious cycle – because even if the tough get going, the sheer number of tough people will cause issues. It might turn a server into a PvE server.
@Gunners Hold and any other server.
Guys please stop moving to Piken we DO NOT need any more prime time guilds. We already have queues. We are not interested in having 2 hours q and be in the 1 or 2 tiers. We just want fun fights and Q is not fun. So if you want to be on the winning side go somewhere else. Thank you
Transfer Wars 2.
Some can’t play for queues, others can’t play for being outzerged.
Try another class. The elementalist isn’t as straight forward as other classes and it has quite a few balance issues to sort out.
In fact, the only mage class I’ve yet to see anyone complain about being too weak is the mesmer.
In PvE you can very quickly struggle with the Mesmer.
Hey, it’s not like you were sorry to see us go
Oh that’s just not true…. many of us were
(although I logically understand the move, it still annoys me when seeing the state of WvW now)
Karma would be nice, but I’d much rather see guild influence actually be useful for purchases and upgrades
Blacktide is NOT looking for more people, contrary to popular belief.
Came to check this thread out after somebody i know mentioned KISS left and it was mentioned here, sparked my curiousity and i went researchin’For those who care: They moved to the US servers, Emhry Bay, and are apparently taking 3 other guilds along.
Also, lol.
B.T. have taken enough from G.H also.
Guess they really didn’t like us beating them the first time, so got night capped and poached the second time
And more guilds transferring to PS today… Wonderful…
Do the people transferring realise that there are servers that want more people and that want to go up in the ratings? Blacktide, Desolation, Far Shiverpeaks… all three and probably some other are advertising and looking for more people, why don’t you transfer there rather than the ‘RP’ server?
Honestly, it’s a bit selfish, but the server had found its spot in the lower-mid tiers, was winning some, losing some, had precious little queues, was not looking like shooting up, and I liked it. I couldn’t care less about getting a ‘big boost’ no one asked for. First of all, the Vabbi transfer made a formality of what was a great matchup. Now the bandwagon is getting worse by the day.
May i ask all the guilds transferring: why? What’s the point? If it’s all about bandwagonning and ‘winning’, don’t you think there’s bigger servers higher up in the tiers to do that?
Is it more G.H. folks jumping ship?
Full servers, Outmanned Buff in every map.
How is this happening? What is so exciting about grinding cursed shore or dungeons for hours as opposed to WvW?
Something similar on G.H.
It’s a bummer cause it likely means I also have to move to a more WvW server
Protecting has been removed.
You should be getting for killing. If not – bug report it.
<snip>or wait for free transfers to end and real matches to start happening in more tiers.
Well, at that time, the other tiers won’t have enough population for ‘real matches’.
The transfers have done their harm. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find WvW on smaller servers, but it does mean that ‘real matches’ is a saga now.
Actually, I think the maps are too small even for the population which is struggling.
It’s simply too fast for the larger populated servers to run over to the underpopulated servers groups and just run them over. It removes the ability for the smaller servers to do hit n’ run tactics.
Smaller maps would just mean the smaller servers would get run over faster and more often, and if wanting to enforce smaller queues for the smaller maps as well – then it’ll simply mean even more people left out of the game.
Instead, this game needs incentive for people to not clumb up on a few mega servers leaving the remainder to struggle.
Not sure how many KISS actually had active in WvW, but seeing as we’re struggling with population to begin with – it’s still a massive hit and is definitely going to affect the force we can put out.
