Over 3k kills and about 500 badges, only did the puzzle 4 times. 5-6kills per badge sounds about where it is for most people.

Not sure about that logic of alt f4 out of battle to deny a person of a badge, then you have to log back in and maybe wait in queue to get back into wvw? all just to deny a person a badge, sounds more like the killer gets the last laugh there.

PVP Changes in WvW

Currently WvW uses the same skills as PvE, so PvP balance changes do not have an impact on WvW.

Really should start labeling changes on the patch notes as spvp changes rather than just pvp to avoid confusion.

why? Yea, its harder to turtle, but on the other hand one mesmer can only portal bomb every 90 sec now.

That really only hurts smaller teams, bigger teams/guilds carry multiple mesmers anyways, extra 30 secs won’t do anything to them.

The damage of cloak and dagger wasn’t the problem.

Few other pvp changes, including the nerfing of engineer grenades by 10-15%, throw speed increased by 10-15% to balance it out I guess.
Mes portals recast is 90sec up from 60sec.
Healing down to 5 targets.
You can no longer view opponents’ account names through reporting in WvW.
Scorpion wire up to 1200 range, expect to see more falling people.

Other than that not much to get excited about for wvw, was mainly a pve spvp update.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

5. Q: Ascended items fill the time gap, but why does that mean they have to have better stats?
A: They know there are different ways to fill the time gap, and were expecting different opinions on whether stat rises were the right choice—so they aren’t surprised by all the anger right now. As a side note, they are counting on the slow release of Ascended gear to contribute to the feeling of it being a longer-term goal than exotics.

Talk about walking around the question, still didn’t answer why the stats had to be raised, just that they weren’t surprised by the anger. Slow release of ascended to contribute to the feeling of long term? it’s time released people don’t have a choice but to feel it’s long term lol, not like the legendary.

Same answer WoW just came up with with mist of pandaria, gate all the raids and equipment on time release so people play at the games pace and not their own pace. Congrats on learning from the best on how to extend your content I guess, why are they following wow and not sticking their their own design concepts.

I don’t understand this whole new philosophy of wanting to fill the gap between exotics and the legendary. Legendary were suppose to be a long term goal. They go through the trouble of making the legendary quests a grind fest of material gathering, so that not everyone would get them as easy as exotics, they made it optional not forced to do because it was still on par with exotics, that is going to change.

It’s not like people needed another tier of gear in order to obtain the legendary, did they do this to give legendary weapons better stats so that it would be more attractive to players? The excuse was that they wanted to give players some progression in between exotic and legendary, that’s still no reason to break the horizontal progression they built their games on. This is the same team that wanted to get creative and break from the usual mmo mold, and in the end they still ended up following the same things as those other mmos.

Here is a question to all you complainers, how would you fix the game?
You dont like Ascended gear? Well give suggestions on how to keep this game alive, because as it is right now Guild Wars 2 is dying.
One point everyone is skipping in that blog post was that we the players have gone through content extremely quickly, far more quicker than Arenanet had planned.
Thousands among thousands of people are complaining this game has nothing to do at level 80, people are getting bored, people are leaving.
If you dont want Ascended items so badly STOP complaining about them and start thinking of other ways to fix this game and satisfy the needs of a very large and diverse player base.

They could have left ascended with the same stats of the exotics with the gem, they obviously wanted to use the slot for the new gems to use on the new agony mechanic.
They could have even took 10 stats off of three and added it to another stat on the armor. 63 power 63 precision 7% mf = 53 power 53 precision 5% mf 30 toughness.

They could have made new weapons for those specific dungeons that had increased damage to certain mobs, fill it up with krait and then reward weapons that did more damage as you got further into the dungeon 10 20 30% vs krait.

It’s not that hard to think outside of the box, they choose the easiest way to go about this. It affects pvp and wvw, people ignore that if they don’t pvp, but there’s a big crowd that does it and it now affects them, and now forces them to do pve in order to keep up with the max gear. Over time as they introduce more gear it will make a difference in pvp, just as much as an 80 in full exotic has an advantage over a level 20 scaled to 80.

FANTASTIC!

..
..
Seriously? So many other options Anet could have gone with to make this work. They better have some good plans in the works for wvw or they’re going to really screw that portion of the game forcing people to dungeons for gear. I don’t even remember the last game that forced people to do pve for pvp end gear, so ridiculous.

My real opinion is, that the stats are not better in damage/healing/whatever but have the ability to penetrate through the karkas armor.

The problem with that is that first we will need Karka gear, then we may need desert heat resist gear, then we might need no magnetic gear. Opening the door for needing specific gear sets for specific fights/locations is a terrible idea. It makes sense to need a support, a tanky, a dps, ect type gear set. But then to need those 3 but with Kraka Pen is as bad as a gear treadmill. Its and equivalent to old school fire or nature resist sets… cough cough.

Actually obtaining gear for specific areas while keep them at the same stat levels of exotic is not a bad idea for horizontal progression. Everquest did this with bane weapons vs a certain mob, you could add resist on armor vs a certain type of damage that those mobs might do and you create armor and weapons that are needed for “progression” through pve while it does not upset the balance of pvp.

With the idea they have for the new dungeon as it gets harder when you get deeper, it could be balanced so that as you get deeper you will need more of that gear to do better, to the end where you would need the full set.

It provides the “stats” for vertical progression players, the new looks for the horizontal fashion players, the increased difficulty for the hardcore players, and again does not upset the balance of having another new tier of gear in pvp.

GW2 DEV impromptu Interview In The Mists

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenesis.6389

If you’re using combos for soloing then why are you even worried about others knowing about combo fields? If you don’t like using combo fields you can switch to the other weapons, you don’t have to use staff on solo play. I’ve played an ele to 80 and know they feel weak(switched to necro as main, the power of wells…), I used sceptor/dagger and had to rotate through 3 attunements in order to kill a single mob, it’s one of the highest attack rotations needed, unlike say a ranger which can quickly kill a mob without even needing to weapon switch.

Again I don’t view combo fields as something you need to use on yourself but a bonus you provide to other classes. If you’re aoeing, you’re doing it on the mob, most times people will get the combo done, if not then you also have control of where to drop the aoe in positions they can take advantage of it.

You have access to other weapons which can kill faster for solo play, but if you refuse to play with the other weapons, then that’s really your problem, at this point you’re basically using fields as a crutch to try and match the damage of dagger/dagger. Not every weapon is equal, stave’s are good for group kills not so much for solo play.

GW2 DEV impromptu Interview In The Mists

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenesis.6389

Not sure what’s fired you so much about combo fields, I take them to be bonus fields. Combo fields mostly come from aoeing, Elementalist being one of the better aoe classes have access to more of it then other classes. Warriors are not really an aoe class, other than using the bow with fire fields, being that he’s a “bulldozer” I doubt he even plays range then, their strength is more with support with banners and shouts when it comes to “comboing”, but that’s for buffing other people. So not really a fair comparison.

Elementalist don’t need to monitor every combo field in order to function, and I look at it as being bonus damage or conditions elementalist provide for other classes. Most of your fields other than water should be dropping on the mob anyways so most people would be taking advantage of them anyways.

GW2 is not living up to its potential

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenesis.6389

Your post is moot in my opinion (not trying to start anything here) for the simple fact that you say it’s not living to it’s ‘’full potential’’ when you’re not even playing the FULL game. Nowhere in this do you even include pvp which leads me to believe you haven’t spent time doing wvw or spvp.

How can you say ‘’not living up to it’s full potential’’ when you haven’t even played the second half of this game?

If he already thinks the first half of the game does not live up to it’s full potential, how exactly does playing the second half change that? Living up to it’s full potential would mean that all aspects of the game are making him happy, he posted about one that isn’t.

As for the game, at this point you might as well build a tank character with all your builds, pve or pvp, it’s just better suited for the play style of this game, because as mentioned being a glass canon does make that much of a difference. You might as well build for survivability since we’re being forced to play dodgeball every single fight.

I feel like most of my characters have to be built with 20-30 points in either power or precision, and then 20-30 points in both toughness and vitality traits, since I’m building mostly for pvp, but I get to worry less about surviving when in pve. Except for my necro which is 30 power, 20 precision, and 20 toughness lines only because of death shroud.

Sigh Mesmers with the fewest changes again.

I hope this time they’ll actually fix trait / skill bugs for the mesmer rather than just nerf stuff again.

What do you mean mesmers with the fewest changes? The Elementalist get none, zero, zip, nada. Even though we are The Only Class which is overly dependant on Game Mechanics, to the extent that we have to learn them just to be functional, whereas other classess can go to the top of end game (dungeon gear, legendaries and PvP ranks) without even knowing what a field is, or what finishers they bring.

Not to mention our massive list of bugged and non-functional abilities. ..seriously, at least your class is functional.

You claim they get zero changes, which implies that either:
1.) They get zero changes in other patches.
2.) They get zero changes in the coming patch based on the impromptu interview.
In case of the first:
Ele changes in at least three October patches, these can all be found in the Announcements section of the forums.

In case of the second:
The OP states mesmer had the fewest changes. If Ele’s truly got zero this statement would be false.

So I’m not entirely sure what you’re getting at here.

In the coming patch is what I meant.
Yes, I am annoyed, not at you, at the fact that I always choose (seemingly) the most broken and kitten (kitten is kittened? o.O)classes in games, this game has me at my wits end when I learned how brainless other classes get to be whith how they are played compared to how MUCH an Ele has to worry about. It is ignored to no end, Why are Elementalists the only ones who need to think about game-wide mechanics?
Be thankful that you have one of the better functioning classes that evidently is more deserving of balance passes.

If engineers are looking like they will have the most changes at 30 points, and mesmers stated as having the least, logically wouldn’t that put elementalist somewhere in between………… ? stop jumping to conclusions until you see the full patch notes?

Legendaries: worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenesis.6389

What Varl said ^^
Reason why the great swords get so much attention is because they’re so much more easier to recognize on a player especially on a big race.

I don’t agree with giving extra stats to the legendaries, if I did it wouldn’t be a big boost maybe an extra 10 to stats and that’s it, but pvp needs to be balanced without gear being a big influence. I think they should have given them a unique proc though, their own sigil basically, could have been something funny, like the bow turning a person into a flower for 1 second, or the great sword turning someone metallic just like the footsteps.

They just need a little something extra to make them worthwhile other than being just another weapon skin, especially the one handers.

To anyone talking about PRX and other militia guilds in SoS, you will have to admit that if you didn’t have PRX, FoE, etc, you wouldn’t have such a large lead, if there was a lead at all. That is why we say they carried your server. Carrying does not mean that they can do everything by themselves. If you think that, you will have to think again about the very meaning of that word.

Just wanted to clarify; we don’t think PRX could have done this alone, but if you didn’t have them, I highly doubt you would have a large lead, if any.

I’m scratching my head over this, every server has top guilds that “carries” the server. Where would SOR be without their big guilds? behind IOJ maybe?

But yeah keep focusing on PRX, it’ll keep our “militia guilds” low key and a better chance to keep surprising people in the future.

Love the blind replies. You do realize that people are ALREADY getting it easier by buying the power/vitality/toughness sets from pve? you know the same stats as the pvp ones. I have farmed atleast 1000 badges in a month of WvW. I’m still farming and don’t mind it at all, I don’t even want the set though…

Never fails, this is always the first reaction whenever someone questions the pricing of something. Not really a matter of wanting things easier, just that getting the same type of item in pve or pvp should be about equal in effort to get. You can get pvp stats on pve items so in most cases people get those instead, hell I farmed karma in pvp and got my set that way instead and still only have about 500 badges. You got 1000 badges, congrats to you, why don’t you want the set? oh maybe because you already got an exotic set from somewhere easier right? Good of you to prove his point.

Well that’s fine whatever the rest of you think, at least the players on SOS server know the hard work all the guilds have put in, as part of the “militia” I’d like to thank all SOS w3 guilds for their organization and communication, you make it fun for the rest of us.

cant say i understand the complaints about GW2’s endgame. i stopped playing WoW because i couldnt participate in the game’s coolest encounters.

Not sure how that’s possible since they have looking for raid which is easy and lets you see the end game content anyways even if you’re not in a guild.

As for GW2 end game, there’s dungeons, spvp, and wvw. I haven’t done dungeons since the first couple weeks of release, it was such a clusterF I never bothered going back to grind tokens. I have temple set exotics on so I have the stats(for pvping) and the look is good enough for me. So what is left? Would be nice to see more dragon type encounters at 80 and if I could do them for something useful.

Same for spvp, level in there for better looks? makes no difference whether I run in there look like a country hick from queensdale or a prince from divinity’s reach, still the same character underneath. Tpvp might be worthwhile because of gem rewards, if you have a big team to run with.

Waiting on wvw updates, which don’t seem to be coming any time soon, another dungeon and *cough*darkmoon faire*cough* seem to be coming in with next update.

Blackgate player here. I just want to say gl to SoS facing JQ and SBI tomorrow if you guys make it to tier 1, which i think you will. They like to double team new servers that makes it into tier 1. We have recently lost a lot of bandwagoners and im sure they went to SBI or JQ. Our population for WvW is lacking so we cant put up a good fight in tier 1, i think tier 2 will be a good place for BG while we regroup and hopefully gain more people in WvW. I look forward to facing SoR and IoJ.

I’m sorry but I think Blackgate put a target on themselves with the bad rep they built before even getting into T1 with all the proclamations of being “Beastgate”, they’re going to be number 1, having people moving to other servers for a few days to mess with rankings because they were “bored”, the general arrogance shown by a lot of Blackgate posters on the various boards.

SBI and JQQ dished out some humble pie the last couple of weeks, hopefully it did some good. A second population implosion happening? Well good luck getting decent guilds this time around and hopefully the trash left with the band wagoners.

Legendaries: worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenesis.6389

Heh, Everquest 1 epics were worth getting because you got the weapon skin, the stats, weapon proc/clicky, and they could last through multiple expansions, which later you could upgrade. The effort for them also required groups or raids to get material from bosses or rare npcs, when you got one, that really felt like an accomplishment, and didn’t need no achievement to tell me that.

GW2 legendaries? it’s just a weapon skin, and basically only the great swords are decent. You have to grind out a bunch of materials or buy them from the trade post. If you have the money and time to do them, all the power to you and good luck with it, I personally don’t think they’re worth doing.

I’m not sure what the problem with salvaging was. You get so many scraps and white items for loot it’s not hard to finish the achievement by the 2nd or 3rd week of the month. A good portion of my cloth came from salvaging especially the higher level stuff, not to mention if you’re crafting you’re salvaging some stuff back for parts you need. If you’re just selling everything off and waiting for the last week to buy items to salvage, then I don’t even….

Why were dungeons added to the monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

At least twice in this thread, posters have offered that it takes an hour or less to get 50 WvWvW kills. This is not true across the board. Last month it took me 8 to 9 times that long, because my server had 3K points and one of our opponents had 400k points. There were a few fights that were even for a short time, then their reinforcements would arrive and the numbers were heavily in their favor. Add to that people logging out when downed and getting those kills was a constant dance on the edge of the invulnerable zone. Cheesy, but wasn’t going to happen otherwise.

So, getting WvWvW kills is not always going to be easy. 5 dungeons in 8 to 9 hours? Sounds like it could be done in much shorter than that.

Why did you go at the end of the match? I walked into wvw tonight for two hours and more than got the achievement done. You know you don’t have to kill the person 100-0% right? you basically need to tag them for a certain amount of damage. Even faster when you’re in a group, not hard to follow the zerg and tag stuff with aoe. The pvp achieve does not even come close to even with the pve one.

P.S While we’re on topic of options it would be nice if they provided more options for us all to do the monthly and not force us to do areas that we choose not to do. How about they give us a list of 10 things for us to choose 2 or 3 to do the monthly with, you pves get your dungeons, we pvp get our kills, crafters get their salvage, ironmen get their 100k exp without dying, explorers get their jump puzzles, etc, but we all at least get to choose what we want. Now I’ll return you to our regularly scheduled complaining about complainers.

Why Orb Removal Will be Very Bad for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

I see someone forgot that playing wvw is about the score not the orbs. The orbs were never really in play very much. The orb was only ever in 1 keep, there are 2 other keeps and 4 towers to fight over. There are options other than slamming your face into the orb keep, it’s just whether or not your side has the mobility and coordination to get those other options to work.

I would like to see the orbs returned when they’re somehow made not hackable, and the rewards from them don’t turn the match into a land slide for the winning server.

Why were dungeons added to the monthly?

Ppl complain the monthly achievements too stale. Now they change it every month and ppl still complaining. Faceplam

No people complained about having pvp in the achievement, and that apparently made pve’s miserable. Now they’ve added dungeons so they can make pvp’s miserable too. We’re all the same miserable boat now!

Regarding Power Orbs of WvWvW: Suggestions for changes

in WvW

I’ve considered an idea that made the orbs a little more complex.

1.Having it setup so that when first place team reaches a 7k lead over second place a debuff would start on first place..

2.A timer would start off and count down for about twelve hours, within that twelve hours first place has to get all the orbs to stop the debuff from happening.

3.The debuff would be an over time gradual decrease of stats, kind of a reverse of the buff itself, where it would work its self up to -15% -150 stats if all orbs are not owned by first place.Having two of the orbs would negate it by 10% so it would only be a 5% debuff.

I think it would help with the morale factor knowing one team couldnt just run away with a lead unless they owned all 3 orbs or they would take a stat decrease making them bit easier targets. And in a situation where say first place has 2 orb and second place has their orb still , that would give third place free rein to come in and start taking first place’s stuff while they are focused battling it out with second for their orb, which helps further close the points gap of all three teams.

That way is interesting in that you don’t give the leading team the extra stats to completely run away with the game, at the same time you turn the orbs into a must get objective for that leading team. Extra work for the the leading team, which if they’re a heavy populated server it wouldn’t be a problem to capture all 3 orbs eventually.

This could also leave the matches to be a close back and forth for most of the week and then leave the last push for the lead in final couple days.

The only problem once again is the orbs will be very valuable, and you will end up with even more hacking of them, until anet can figure out how to make them unhackable.

While I do understand the need to put a mechanic in so that the other two servers can catch up and make the match interesting, I am still not sure about penalizing the top team. You still have to reward them for taking the lead, whether or not they have more population, servers will take leads because they are more organized and not just because they have more people or more overnight presence, you still need to reward them for that. I would rather deny them the bonus stats and keep that to the teams behind the lead, which is part of what the undermanned buff should be doing.

As for the orbs while they do provide that extra objective out in the field, they’re not usually on the field often or for very long, most times they’re just involved in another hacking story. I think attaching the stats to the keeps would provide that extra push for sides to beef up defenses of keeps, which of course needs supplies to do and so an extra drive to capture the surrounding supply camps. Plus the dolyaks supply runs already provide that field objective to do, which I don’t think a lot of people take seriously enough.

The undermanned buff, what were they thinking to attach a magic find buff to it. If you look at a game like Planetside they gave bonus stats to the two other underpopulated teams, and the buff scales according to how much population they were under. Wow had the same thing in Wintergrasp open pvp area, they applied a stat buff on the undermanned side so that they could compete and it wouldn’t be a complete steamroll. The orbs just completely do the opposite of that.

I’ve considered a few options in regards to changing the orbs, because I agree that having the top team with all 3 orbs just because they have more population doesn’t exactly promote much competition.

1. Make each orb stat bonuses attached only to their homelands. So for instance as the teams the op pointed out. Each orb is worth 5% hitpoints +50 to all stats to their team, if SoS captures IoJ and HoD orbs they do not get their bonuses, but rather they take away that bonus from those other two servers. This way we don’t see a huge shift in stats on an already dominating team, but rather you keep the stats away from your opponents. You still have to reward the team for making the effort of taking away those orbs.

2. Make each orb have different stats, so for instance green bl orb would give 150 vitality, red bl orb would give 150 power, blue bl orb would give 150 toughness. What this does is it gives the different servers a boost in areas to help them start the matchup. So red being the lowest in ranking here would get an extra bonus to damage to help compete.

3. I would drop the orbs all together because of the constant complaints about hacking and bugs surrounding them. I would instead attach bonuses to each keep(garrison, bay, hills, eb keep)x3 for a total of 12. Each keep you own would give +1% hitpoint and +12 to all stats.

Also the undermanned buffs needs to change, +magic find doesn’t help at all if the enemy outnumbers me 2 to 1, especially when I’ll probably be doing less killing if anything this only encourages me to go pve in there. Give me more hit points or stats you actually use in combat to help me cope with being overrun until more people get into the zone.

WvW Turtling - Intended or Not?

You guys are going about it all wrong, you don’t ask to raise the aoe cap from 5, you ask to cap the heal and buff spells from unlimited to 5-8 targets in range, that goes for mesmer portals as well. Companies tend to like nerfing instead of buffing spells/skills

Props to SoR for thinking ahead and organizing their guys to go wvw right after the patch then, pretty much every server reset whether it’s for an event like halloween or for quick patching should be treated like the wvw resets on fridays, you rush in and take as much as you can while you can.

Also I’m surprised with all these server transfers lately especially with what the Blackgate transfer people did this week, that there aren’t more mercenary guilds out there willing to hire their services out for a week to help servers outgun their opponents. That would be a hilarious low point for transfers.

Look at all the excuses, people need to stop it and just go back to WvWing. SoS isn’t the only server with oceanics, I’m sure there are people on SoR that were affected too, it’s just at this point it looks like SoR more wvw oceanics than SoS does. They have a bigger wvw population overall, which with the queue times they’ve been getting this week compared to SoS confirms.

The halloween event being released on a monday instead of say last thursday is pretty bad timing as well, couldn’t they at least load up the patch last week and then switch it on yesterday? But then again I don’t think Anet has time to think about wvw balance these days.

Lastly I would like to note, it would be nice to see commanders showing up in SoS EB more often, whether they are present and not showing the icon or not I don’t know, I just know there are gaps with no commanders at all and it gets confusing to the militia on where to go and what to do other than what’s being said on team chat and watching the map. All the while I’ve heard that SoR can have up to 3 or 4 commanders at once in their EB.

Night Capping and YOU

in WvW

Xenesis.6389

Not sure why it’s ok to let night crews walk all over maps with little resistance or queues that the prime time crews constantly have to face. I agree that everyone deserves to play whenever they want to play, so throw out the close wvw down for 12 hrs type of ideas. But at the same time you’re still affecting the enjoyment of players of undermanned servers, they are left at an unfair disadvantage until their servers eventually matches up with other servers with similar night time attendance, but how many weeks or months until that’s figured out? especially with free transfers still around.

They need to at least look at letting guilds set up some additional base defenses, stronger guild buffs with shorter durations, or more/stronger guards you can station at guild bases that last for 6 hours, or improve the undermanned buffs.

Having to pick up loot bags is incredibly annoying

in WvW

Posted by: Xenesis.6389

Xenesis.6389

If they have a problem sending the loot straight to our bags then the very least they can do is:
1. Color the bags so that they’re more noticeable, having them brown basically makes it blend into the ground 99% of the time, have to hold ctrl down to even notice there’s loot around most times.
2. Increase the size of the bag, it’s much easier seeing a dead corpse that needs looting in pve, no so much in pvp especially when there’s a greater focus on battles and can very easily get lost and shift areas while fighting.
3. Mark the mini-map where loot bags have been dropped.
