Guardians are probably the number one staple class for wvw with stability, condition cleanse, support boons, healing, so it’s not exactly surprising to see a lot of them, dragonhunter spec also gives them some good options and good range dps to go along with all that.

Legendary Armor and WvW [Merged]

Never expected it to be available anywhere except for raids, don’t know why anyone else would, don’t even care to put an ascended vendor in wvw.

You may not care but many others do. PvP can be ignored as it doesn’t use armor stats at all. That leaves WvW and PvE where stats do matter. Easily changeable stats would boost flexibility, especially when combined with swappable runes.

Once you have those the look of the armor is secondary to function. You can use Viper and then switch to soldier if it gets a bit tougher.

Plenty of WvW players use legendary weapons already, despite the sigil not being easily swapped.

Then raids are boring, repetitive and I would really rather have everyone with the same max armor stats as in PvP.

Simple option, extend the PvP all in one amulets to WvW, then it won’t matter what armor you are wearing.

I meant ANET didn’t care to put an ascended vendor in wvw so why would anyone expect legendary armor of all things to be earned in wvw.

I’ve been an advocate and argued enough with others about why wvw should have ascended vendors in wvw, we have finally learned in the last ama they will be in sometime in the future. People don’t seem to get it, in pve the journey to earn gear there means something, in pvp it means nothing. Pvp players just want the best gear right away to be on par with everyone else, they certainly don’t want to be ganked by someone who has better gear, stats, traits, etc.

Legendary armors were made as exclusive rewards for raids, don’t expect to earn it anywhere else.

Would a bigger map help wvw?

A bigger map can work if they design enough useful points of interest in it, as well as create a “front line” for fights.

I’ve seen a “bigger” map in action with the rvr map from ESO, that map is HUGE compared to even DBL, like at least 5x as big. But they have mounts and speed buffs to help get around, as well as having a waypoint system to port to and from every tower or keep they have, as long as they are connected by your side. You can temporarily shut down a tower or keep from having a waypoint for your enemies if you capture the 3 surrounding objectives attached to it, these are objectives that make havoc sized teams important to have.

There are some bad things in having a huge map, if they don’t fit in ways to travel around in a decent amount of time, like that waypoint system it’s kitten boring moving from one place to another. You would also need to design structures with more hitpoints, which in ESO basically every structure has tier 3 upgrades, but you have to repair walls after every fight, there’s no auto repairs from upgrades. That is to give time for defenders to respond.

I think for DBL what they needed to do was design the map to have more useful objectives to fight for, rather than having obstacles to break up the zergs. Imagine if you had to cap swt nwt first before attacking fire keep, or had to cap swc and nwc in order to shut down the waypoint to fire keep, there certainly would be a lot more small groups tackling that stuff as you wouldn’t take one zerg around to do so. Of course fire keep would have to have some extra value to even bother with the trouble of taking it, like giving a map buff of something.

There needs to be more stuff connected together that need to be conquered together in order to proceed to another objective type of thing. Instead of letting everything be out there and not really connected and can be taken anyway anytime, well why wouldn’t you just take one big fat zerg to all of them then.

While DBL had some issues, I don’t think it got released with all that was intended in fact I think they cut out a key feature of that map that originally was intended. It would of made sense to make it a gliding map, and introduce aerial combat there.

It would of been a highly popular map then. Imagine flying around with your whole squad.

Just because the map would be better with gliding doesn’t mean it was intended to have it. The point of DBL was to break up bigger groups in hopes of having more smaller groups running around, implementing gliding in there would have broken that concept to pieces. They had a ton of obstacles in place which only work if you’re on the ground, and shrines to help you get through those obstacles.

Also gliding is a HoT feature, since wvw is open to all account types, there would be players who don’t have access to it and would screw up a multitude of things. While it might be a cool thing to do in wvw, it would start coming down to which server had more access to gliders, and the separation between account types would be bigger with elite specs already wedged in there.

DBL came out as they intended, just not what players wanted, and they didn’t react fast enough with changes.

We need another map.
If you do not like the DBL do not play in that map.

With the new map, Anet will not make the same mistake, there will be the Alpine, the Desert and the New Map at the same time.

Anet has learned from the DBL.

They already don’t play DBL if they don’t like it, it has the lowest activity.
Anet made Eotm and then DBL, and you think they learned their lesson?

No more new elite specs and class balancing would fix all the problem.

Honestly I don’t know what you guys expect at this point. Everything they do players think it’s all wrong, nothing they do is right. People in here in a lot of cases don’t really know what they even really want. Some people in here have their own agendas apart from the general wvw population, and will continue to narrowly push that.

In some cases there’s no compromises, desert borderland? delete it, eotm? delete it. People present ideas for current stuff or future development, and it gets squashed by the players themselves, so why would the Wvw team even listen?

People keep asking them for fixes in areas they are not in charge of, like balance classes and their specs and roles, the wvw team doesn’t develop classes, they don’t develop the elite specs, they don’t define roles. The only thing they can do is try to get skills changed to be more wvw appropriate, and they have to go through the pve balance team for that which probably only comes together once every three months.

Barely anyone wants to have a real serious discussion about changes or future developments. People have their opinions set in stone on certain issues and unwilling to change, that’s why battle groups was dismissed in the first place before it even got to us, because they thought players won’t like change. Players are hung up over their own vision of what is the right image of wvw, they are unwilling to accept change, we’ve seen a lot of examples of that.

Some people hate links and want more hard solutions, which won’t even matter because things will just end up right back as it is now, because the players are a big problem too, but they constantly want anet to do things to police player’s stupidity. That’s not to say anet hasn’t screwed up, because they have many times like the players.

So honestly, why would the Wvw team bother listening to wvw players? why should they bother trying to develop anything else that will just be rejected anyways. Enjoy the skirmish rewards and ascended vendors in the future, to no surprise there are people who are against those too. Wvw isn’t allowed to have nice things, we need to continue being the ghetto part of gw2, thug life yo.

They most likely won’t be shutting down wvw until gw2 is dead, why bother shut it down before that? They should probably just shut down this forums section though, because it’s no longer productive, hasn’t been in a while. Nothing they can do now to get players back without help from the other sections of the game, and that ain’t happening, and more game breaking elite specs are on the way.

I think this is a pretty solid idea and that, being a 24-hour thing with far less exclusive rewards, it avoids the burn-out problem of previous tournaments.

At the same time, I’m not really seeing the draw on new players. It makes points matter for a day out of every week, but that’s it. That’s not super exciting and isn’t really an area where there’s room for a new player to show up and learn things. It’s very do or die.

It doesn’t change anything you currently do or play for in weekly wvw, you still earn those same weekly bags.

The whole concept is an extra event tacked on to help give wvw some notice in the other areas of the game, more so when there isn’t much else going on like living story which is every 2-3 months, festivals which is maybe every other month, spvp seasons which have a break in between. Meanwhile wvw players earn a little extra reward for playing on the night they all mostly come out to play for anyways. In a way this is wvw’s living story event.

The participation part can be done over the week, so even if players are not able to take part on that night, they can still participate during the week and earn the tickets. This part should not be as easy as just hopping into wvw for the ruins or sentry cap for the daily, but the same time make sure they did spend some hours in wvw. The reward track participation would be great for this part as that takes around 8 hours to complete and you can do whatever to earn it, or the achievement points for achievements hunters from pve.

Would people rather wvw carry on as it’s normal dying self and have no events at this point? that just seems to be the consensus I’m feeling around here in these forums now.

I think if you people opened up the top of the box yall are in, and seen that there is a huge game outside of WvW, that you can attain all these things you want with little effort, that maybe just maybe, these, “Chicken little” and “Hyperbole” threads can cease to exist.

Some of us don’t want to pve and just want to do wvw, what’s so hard about that to understand? Just like there’s pve people who don’t want to pvp or wvw. Spvp people don’t have to pve to function 100% in their game mode.

Most of the stuff you pointed out is not handled by the wvw team or will never happen.

Lag fixes. – Probably caused by their bloated passive condition boon spamming system in place, they haven’t fixed it in years, how much longer before you think this miracle will happen? It’s not like it’s constant lag, usually only happens in huge fights and in certain areas like SMC. This technically isn’t the wvw team’s problem to fix either.

Population balance fixes. – Not going to happen unless they revamp the server system which they canned for the links system a year ago. Wvw will probably be dead before that even ever happens.

Core professions need improvements. – Not the wvw department, that’s the balance team.

Better optional roles to build and use for each profession. – Not the wvw department, that’s the balance team.

Condi systems and stealth systems need to be fleshed out. – Not the wvw department, that’s the balance team, stealth won’t be changed as they built an entire class to function around it.

The WvW team’s purpose is to design and implement systems for wvw environment, not for all the hardware, not all the software coding, not for balancing the game classes, they have other teams for that.

I believe I have listed enough changes to tournament problems to warrant more than just a glance and write off as just another tournament thread. If you don’t like an aspect of the ideas presented then let me know and let’s discuss it.

The tournaments would happen when the most players are active on Friday and Saturday, when the scoring and coverage is mostly even before it starts to run away the rest of the week. Players will not be pressured for an entire week to more than a month to participate hardcore to get their server in place for rewards, like the old system did. Your wins in tier four count as much as tier one. It uses the current scoring system, the rewards mostly already exist in game, participation check is what they will be need to implement.

This is a more of a one day event presented every week that all types of players could get excited to participate in, it will provide an alternative way to provide rewards already present in other parts of the game, and reintroduce old rewards that are missing even from the lost and found section.

It’s not just another same ole tournament.

Did you guys bother to read my original post?
The reason why players left is because of burnouts caused by tournaments running 24/7 for 6-8 weeks. Of course pve players also left after tournaments because nothing of interest for them after.

Please read my proposal it’s not the typical hey let’s run an old tournament so blackgate can win.

There are obviously other problems with wvw like class balance but the wvw team does not work on that.

Meh looks interesting I guess, but it’s like still pre alpha and still taking kickstarter funds, their pre alpha vids are already looking good though. Also the guy creating it was a guild leader in Archeage, so I would expect a lot of open world pvping, with a few former SoE employees there too, but not sure if that’s a good thing.

One thing to give them though, they already have capes working…

As for wvw, ESO is probably the closest thing to run to these days, their wvw map is kitten ginormous, so traveling can be a bit of a pain. No commander tags either so you have to find groups to join for bigger action.

We like Skirmishes and are looking to support this with rewards in the future. In general, for WvW, our priorities are rewards and ascended equipment.

The WvW team releases their content when it is ready. We have a variety of things in work, some further along, some still early in development. The team wants nothing more than to deliver great content for WvW but making changes for the game mode is rarely trivial. The team wants to make sure that large system and content changes are given proper due diligence and are in a position to have the best possible impact for WvW players.

Questions for the WvW team/devs:
Are there any plans to make communication with players better, or increase dev to player communication? I think one of the biggest issues with WvW is that it seems like devs are very detached from the game mode, and that could just be my perspective, but I’ve never really had the opportunity to talk to a dev about WvW before.

Are there any plans to bring back the adopt a dev program for WvW? I think this would help a lot, and could be a fun and good opportunity for both players and devs alike.

Are you aware of the WvW initiative, primarily led by NA WvW guild leaders, and if you are, do you plan to interact with it at all?

Overall, how do you plan to bridge this gap between the WvW player and the development team? Maybe I’m alone in seeing this, and if that is the case feel free to ignore me, but I don’t believe I am.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, rune swapping is something that benefits a WvW player as much or perhaps even more than raid players. It sucks that this functionality is tied behind content that many of those players have little interest in.

When can we expect some meaningful WvW changes? The last poll was over 8+ months ago and it made it sound like the easy changes were going to be made first (QoL, scoring changes, rewards) with the harder to address issues being done after. But in that time, not much has changed.
How is it each PVE Raid team can put out more content in 3 months than what the WvW team has accomplished in 1.5 years since HoT.

Part 2

Rewards
Tournament tickets can be used on a number of things.

  1. As one part of payment for Ascended weapons on the Ascended vendor when it’s available, the prices should be high.
  2. As payment for Gift of Heroes (current cost is 200 tickets) to upgrade Hero weapons (gained from reward track) to Mistforged Hero weapons.
  3. As payment for Gift of Heroes to upgrade Triumphant armor (gained from reward track) to Triumphant Hero armor.
  4. Ascended accessories (current cost is 200 tickets).
  5. Infusions (current cost is 50 tickets).
  6. Mini Dolyak (current cost is 200 tickets).
  7. Obsidian Shard (current cost is 50 tickets).
  8. Superior siege 6 tickets, Superior Trebuchet 12 tickets (same price as with proof of heroics).
  9. Gift of WvW used for crafting Wvw legendary back piece, 600 tickets.
  10. Gift of Battle used for crafting legendaries, 600 tickets.
  11. Flax seed, 1 ticket.
  12. 5 Badge of honor, 1 ticket.
  13. 1 Ticket, 5 Tomes of knowledge ( I didn’t forget you tome people!).

Prices and most numbers listed in this proposal are used for example purposes and should be changed accordingly to what Anet deems to be more appropriate.

Implementation
Implementation shouldn’t be too extensive as most of the scoring is already done with skirmish victory points. Just a matter of calculating totals separately for the tournament score and then seasonal scores. Participation tracking will need to be implemented in whatever fashion Anet deems fit to use. Most of the rewards are already in the game.

Population Bandwagon Tanking Concerns
There is a concern about Bandwagons moving to winning servers. There isn’t anything that can be done if players decide they want to move to potential winning servers for 4 or 8 weeks before relink happens again. Short of cutting off transfers which I mentioned for the 4 week season. With a season happening right at relinks it will be difficult to tell where a server will end up other than the guaranteed top servers, but who knows where links will end up.

The only big bonus that happens is if the seasonal format is used for the bonus tickets. The tickets being awarded every week will range from 36-60 tickets per week, not a giant difference. If players feel the rewards of this system is enough to shuffle gold or real money to Anet to move around often, let them drain their pockets. Relinks will happen and everything gets shuffled again.

Maybe players or guilds from the top heavy servers feel they could win on lower servers. They could also raise the minimum gems needed to move to low population servers to help curb some of the mass transfers, maybe 1800 to mains, 1200 to links.

Tanking could be a concern for servers trying to get into a better position to win at the start of a new season in a lower tier. But as we’ve seen with the current glicko ratings we can have servers bounce from tier 1 to tier 3 the next week to tier 1 the week after. With the hopeful increased participation of pve and spvp players, maybe tanking would be more difficult to do.

TLDR
Weekly Tournaments 24 hours from reset, victory points earned is your ticket amount earned.
Season of 4 or 8 weeks of tournament victory points, earns extra tickets.
Rest of week used for participation to earn the tickets at end of week.
Tickets used to buy wvw shtuff.

I have mentioned the idea of mini tournaments a few times and thought maybe it was time to write out a format and see what the community thinks, see if it can lead into maybe getting a weekly event into wvw that could promote getting more players into it.

Goals
The goal of this proposal is to try and attract players of the other game modes into wvw, mostly during down times of living story or spvp seasons. To provide current wvw players an exciting event every week, giving them some extra purpose to reset, and during the week in earning participation while not being stressed over coverage and commander burnouts during the week.

Also to re-implement past wvw rewards back into the system as well as provide some means to earn potential future rewards, namely ascended armor and legendary back piece, if it is ever implemented.

Tournaments would only last for a period of 24 hours per week, starting from reset.

Every Week

  1. 24 hours Friday 10pm est – Sat 10pm est.
  2. Every time zone will get a chance to fully participate equally during their prime times which are normally 8-12pm. Est would start late but they get to finish up the scoring.
  3. The tournament will note the victory points after the 24 hours and use that as the tournament total for that week. Scoring continues on as normal.
  4. The victory points a server earns in that 24 hours will be the 1:1 amount of wvw tournament tickets earned, which can be used to purchase various rewards.
  5. The tickets will be awarded at the end of the week at reset.
  6. Using the 5-4-3 victory scoring, 2 hour skirmish timer, a server could earn a maximum of 60 tickets per week and a minimum of 36.
  7. The rest of the week will resume normal play, with the extra bag rewards for placement as usual. The entire week will also be used to earn participation for the ticket reward for that week.

Seasons
Optional to this could be a season mode which would be used for the purpose of handing out bonus tickets. The victory points earned from the weekly tournaments are added together over a period of 4 or 8 weeks (between link times).

  1. For the 4 weeks period you run the weekly tournament as normal from the start of the relinking, while closing off transfers for this period. Then at the end of the 4 weeks the 6 main servers (and their links) earning the top victory points will earn 100 bonus tickets. Then tournaments continue every week after, the season either starts over right away or after the next relinking if players would like a break in between.
  2. For the 8 week period you can run this like a sports season with a playoff mode. You add up the victory totals after 4 weeks, the top 6 teams will move into the “playoffs”. Those 6 will continue on the next 4 weeks to earn victory points and the top 3 teams will earn 150, 125, 100 tickets. But all servers will continue to earn tickets according to their victory points even if they’re not in the playoffs.
  3. In this format it would not matter if you’re in tier 1 or tier 4, as long as you’re winning skirmishes, you’re not going head to head with different tiers, it’s basically a race for victory points during the period where most servers get the maximum participation from players.
  4. As a seasonal reward the top server will also receive a badge next to their name, much like the spvp badges.

Participation
Participation of course will be need to be tracked so that players are not “sleeping on the job” to earn tickets for the week. There are various methods Anet could use.

  1. Check for a minimum wvw level earned for the week, 5 levels for example.
  2. Implement a new repeatable reward track for the tournament time, then check if the player has completed this track for the week (most of the rewards in this track should be siege much like the triumphant armor track).
  3. Provide a new series of achievements for players to earn participation for the week.

For example – WvW Year One Season Achievement week number (1-52):

  • Capture 1 sentry. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Capture 1 supply camp. Worth 1 achievement point.
  • Capture 1 bloodlust ruin. Worth 1 achievement point.

WvW you may like it you may not but who cares if you do or not. This post is merely to bring attention to the situation under going a “neglected” portion of the player base. WvW to me is the main reason I play GW2, the combat system is nice and fun and it emodies the Games name “Guild Wars” a place were Guild actually fight. So what about WvW? Well this game is going into its fifth year soon (congrats Anet), and PVE content has dramatically expanded in so many ways that made the game much more fun.

WvW on the other hand has been left in the Dust. Yes there was a new map (Desert Borderland which is everyone’s least favorite) Yes we get the benefits of the new Elite Specs, but that is it(yes bug patches and tweaks to the Shrines but nothing Major) Where is the new content? If you ever play any competitive game then you know how important it is for there to be something new in the mix to shake up the player bases skills and knowledge.

The only thing for WvW we have to learn is that we cant break certain walls anymore in the game because “PHYSICS” and new Build Metas (Separation of WvW Meta should be different from PVE). Don’t bring up PvP because pvp is a failed mess(its fun but its not good enough for esports Sorry.) For my main and Final point. What is the WvW player base doing right now, we are currently holding on too whatever morality we have left to play (There is a good number of Guild that don’t play the PVE content which is ok).

I know Guild that have disbanded because they don’t find it fun to do the same thing in the same ways 4 years straight. I have seen players leave and Guilds leave to other Games that offer a similar experience (ESO, has a system like WvW that is very fun btw). Soon enough the player base will die out in WvW. What can be done to help? Talk with us more, we want to hear from the WvW team often (yes there is a negative view against Devs but its with reason)

But if we get feedback and more communication from the team showing us a reason to stay thats all we need. But as of right now we have nothing to look forward too and most of us won’t wait in hopes the next expansion will bring something new.

But heck, I have been in older mmorpgs years ago where there would be outages for 2-4 days with no response from the game makers….Anet is usually pretty quick with getting these problems fixed.

Which games are those? usually when there’s an outage like it’s because of hardware failure.

Afk in spawn while finish making dinner… while other players more specifically est players are waiting to get in queue because we only have about a hour or two to play reset…. This is why we dont have nice things in this world..

Yeah for real, and he likes dbl but I bet he doesn’t bother to park in that bl to wait which doesn’t tend to have the same queues if at all as the other maps.

A Quick Update on DBL

Players don’t like EBG over Alpine’s because it’s more complex.

EBG has more structures, they’re closer, it’s easy to get around like alpines, it’s got a lot of areas to have open fights or chokes for positional fights, and none of them felt stupid like when you get stuck on a plant on the ground(other than that step in north dredge), it’s got it’s central structure that constantly attracts fights from 3 sides. Both maps provide a much smoother experience in meeting your enemies, moving around, fighting, and counter play. That’s why players prefer it.

When you put in stuff to interrupt that experience like spacing out structures, high cliffs and tight passages, areas filled with obstacles, and then have to put in gimmicks to counter it, thus making the experience of meeting enemies, moving around, fighting and counter play much less enjoyable and annoying, obviously players will hate it more than love it.

Obviously with structures closer it’s harder for havoc teams to operate in EBG with faster response times and why it’s easier for “blobs” to exist there, and why smaller groups mostly sit in borderlands. Desert was built to try and break up the big groups, congratulations, it worked, can’t come in here to complain about less players when that was the purpose of the map, especially when the expansion also screwed over those small groups.

There’s a certain annoyance to desert borderland that probably won’t ever go away, even it’s theme alone can be an annoyance to players. No different than tangled depths, a lot of players hated that map even after the changes.

For some weird reason west coast want to get on the same time as east coast players for exact reset time. They like having queues or something I guess. Also they always note now much of an inconvenience it is to them, but never consider it’s inconvenient to others.

Because some servers are not playing their “tier” which their population is suppose to be balanced to through links.
Look at the matchup this week
Tier 1 = rank 1 3 4
Tier 2 = rank 2 5 11(lol)
Tier 3 = rank 8 9 12
Tier 4 = rank 6 7 10

Between 5th and 12th there’s only about 100 point difference in glicko ratings, so you’re going to see jumps like that.

i thought the word tiers died few months ago?

Skins and decorations

I was thinking this thread was about wvw decorations for guild hall and I was all excited by the idea.

They tried doing Living Story stuff in wvw and people freaked out. Toxic events. I think during winter’s day we get dolyak and siege projectile changes. And NNC always has holiday lights strung up.

Having actual pve events that interrupt game play and decorations are two different things. No one has a problem when they decorate for the holidays, shouldn’t be a problem having themes for claimed structures. They should have explored having different skins for structures and siege years ago, they went on a run with finishers for a while and that’s about it. Their art team is mostly set on gliders, black lion weapons and an outfit every month.

Oh one thing I would change about downed state is the extra abilities which are unique to the classes, but some are loluselesspoisonnecros, to loltongueouteles or lolucan’tseemethieves. Make all the third skill the same for everyone, so pick a knockdown or root and leave at that for everyone.

I agree with major balances in builds classes most used in wvw but still feels less rewarding specially in outnumbered fights that we down someone and they r insta brought back because of numbers ONLY. but i can take babysteps. Remove downsstate while outnumbered buff is on then.

That last idea seems appealing. When a server is outnumbered, there’s no downstate for other servers. Insta kill, and no revive. My sadistic side also thinks of a “time out” of killed players from non-outnumbered players.

So you would be totally ok with fighting say 2v5 and you dont have downstate but the 5 do?

Because that’s still what will happen when those 5 are outmanned on the border because your side got 30 people AFK queueing EB in spawn.

He said other servers, not the one that has the outnumbered.
I can get behind that idea.

Wold Boss Farming - Rewards?

Like everything else in the game, there’s small chances for exotics(precursors included) and ascended to drop from mobs. But basically use world bosses to farm rares to break into ectos. Bosses like Tequalt have his own unique set of drops. I find world bosses good to farm at times when you don’t want to give the game 100% attention, while doing other stuff like reading the forums on a second monitor.

Living World Season 2 - Not free?

Well you do get it even as a free to play account if you login during the time the episodes release just cant play them untill buying hot.

So play the game get it for free or come in later and hope they sell it as a bundle that you pick up with gems.

And what about the players who haven’t discovered gw2, don’t have the game now during living story season, buy the game down the line and have to buy the season, they deserve to get screwed out of it?

If you’re required to buy HoT in order to play living story season 3, then they should get it for free no matter what, doesn’t that seem fair?

Living World Season 2 - Not free?

Frankly living story season 3 shouldn’t be a separate charge as you need the expansion to play it. Since it was also advertised as being part of the expansion and needing that to play it, it should be provided to those accounts for free regardless of when they picked up the expansion. Not everyone got HoT on day one, and I’m sure there will be players who will get it 2 years after release and when the living story is done, why would they have to pay for that content when the expansion already paid for it?

I can understand if living story season 2 was still left as charged content, that was released as free content initially to everyone before the expansion and years after game release. If season 3 wasn’t sold as part of the expansion but released for free to everyone like season 2 I can see a need to charge for that as well. They will basically be double dipping charging for season 3. If season 4 comes out not attached to anything then feel free to offer it like season 2, or charge for it right off the bat if they want.

Also gems sales are the same as subs, they are just collected differently, subs take payments from everyone playing, gems sales takes it from people willing to dump much more into a game than a regular sub which tends to cover multiple players. In the end they both serve the same purpose, let’s not pretend they’re completely different.

So like.. was there suppose to be maintenance for NA too and didn’t bother to mention that?
15mins now and can’t get into wvw from reset…

I mean it’s great eastern NA has to wait till 10pm to even get reset, because you know they said they wanted to avoid interrupting reset with the later time.. and we get an unannounced maintenance.

And yet if you played a game like WoW you’d be paying for an expansion and 2 years worth of monthly fees between expansions, during which not much is released.

That’s the issue with this whole ZOMG the expansion was so expensive for four maps. I don’t know about you but I got 8 maps. Because there have been four maps of the Living Story, which I also got free, in addition to the story.

I said from day one that the expansion was like an expansion and a season pass, and I that opinion hasn’t changed.

People who look at only what’s in the box and nothing else, are missing half the expansion themselves. That’s not Anet’s fault.

It’s too bad people are so trained by other games that they can’t actually see that the expansion didn’t just include what was in the box, but everything that came after until the next expansion.

Maybe people need to play more “free to play games” that require huge investments to continue, or play a sub game before they start talking about value.

I went back for the last WoW expansion, I only paid for the first month I went back before the expansion released, after that I made more than enough gold to buy the monthly sub tokens for 5 months of playtime plus I have an extra 5-6 tokens for whenever I want to go back. But much like gw2 these days, you don’t have to play every month to keep up, just go back for major content release.

The amount of content they also released with their expansion puts the gw2 expansion to shame, for basically the same price. One of the problems of content comparisons I can see is a lot of players for gw2 haven’t played much else in mmo’s, a group of those came from gw1, and so they don’t really know the real worth of content you get from other games and why they have a difficult time understanding why people are complaining about content they are paying $60 for when it’s probably worth $40. Maybe if Anet had released 4-5 brand new fractals or dungeons (not revamps) with the initial release you wouldn’t see as much complaints, wow has also already released more raids than gw2 did, and still more to come.

And if people want to make the excuse but subs!, what do people think gem sales pay for? not the same things as subs?

It’s at least worth more when you start to compare season passes for other games which are getting to ridiculous levels of price to content, The Division was one of the first to charge $40 for a season pass, and the amount of content you get from that is rather pathetic. Season pass is becoming one of the biggest ripoffs paying a year in advance for content and getting much less than anticipated, I’m never buying another season pass or incomplete expansion that’s for sure.

As for the price for content not including just the box, a year and half past the expansion and still not all the legendary weapons or armors have been release, they are still being worked on, they haven’t even delivered regardless of what was suppose to be in or out of the box. That’s content that’s been paid for even by players who are probably not even playing these days and so didn’t even get that content delivered to them. Living story as someone else mentioned, if you haven’t been here for every release you lose out on that and have to pay for it afterwards, even though it’s something already paid for by those accounts.

Asia Servers

1. There’s chinese servers, has to be separate because of chinese laws or something.

2. They would have to create 3 servers for those players for their own matchup, if you want them in the NA matches it would turn out wacky since the majority of those players would be playing with no opposition, having more than one would make the problems worse. See old matchups that had runaway scores because of overnight coverage like SoS. Also imagine if those servers got bandwagoned on.

3. Might be enough to get 3 servers going, but I’m sure there’s players rooted in their current servers because of community or guild for places like SoS DB JQ that wouldn’t move.

4. Wvw probably doesn’t make much money for anet in the first place, so they wouldn’t spend money to bring up so few servers in that area.

Gift of Battle Forcing you to WvW now

Do you have all the tracks done or something? it doesn’t go back to a finished track unless you pick it, otherwise it goes to the next unfinished track. So if you want to stop “accidentally” getting gift of battle reward track make sure other tracks you want are open.

Back to the topic, pve players are now asked of “one” thing to do in wvw to get the gift, which for 4 years they were given a free ride on with the achievement badge giveaways, map completion in wvw was a more difficult task to do when it was needed. That required players to go around in zergs to get the points unless you were on dead servers, with the reward track you can sit semi afk using a treb hitting a wall and get it done.

Wvw players have had to do so much more in pve to get what they want to function in wvw, like guild hall upgrades, gear sets. It’s much more difficult for a pure wvw player to complete items like the legendaries, gift of battle is the easy part, having to map out 30+ zones is a major pain in the kitten as I’m sure you fully well know. The reward tracks have helped wvw a lot, since you can just do the dungeon tracks now for the tokens rather than having to run the dungeons. I had to do mines in spvp before they brought the rewards tracks to wvw.

Should the pain be equally shared? no obviously not, but if you want a legendary there’s obviously going to be some pain for it. Frankly I don’t even care if they changed it so pve players don’t have to come into wvw for the gift. I just want wvw to be better.

Desert Borderland Map

Most complaints i hear are based off of false impressions. ie
1. Opinions formed at HoT launch, when it was indeed horrible to traverse.

Opinions were formed from the very first beta test of the map, which they then failed to fix a lot of the problems players pointed out to them until much later.

2. they still don’t know the layout of the map

They’re not going to bother learning the layout of the map if it feels like kitten to play in. The ground was also littered with random tree stomps that helped make traveling even more annoying along with the cliffs which you can’t determine is safe to drop from, not to mention making most areas less desirable to even fight in. The whole desert theme sucks as well, why did they even go with desert when the rest of the HoT maps were jungles.

3. their zerglings die to fall damage (still happens in alpine, but there people laugh rather than blame the map), if you want to take a short cut, aim for the hay and yell it in chat before you jump.

It’s quite clear where you can jump down safely in alpines, you know like the mid ledges on the cliffs south of nwt, or the ones north of net. On desert there’s many spots where that isn’t clear. The hay wasn’t even added till months after HoT.

4. claim the map is slow…. They don’t cap shrines to maintain their swiftness AND they dont tell their zerg to interact with the shrine when they miss the cap point. This is a huge mistake to make on this map. Also eliminating shrine bonuses while assaulting keeps is essential. I often find this complaint ties into the lack of familiarity with the map.

It is slower, also having to cap shrines to get around the map pretty much gives away your position every time. It’s just another stupid “bloodlust” gimmick they threw in there which most big groups would not care about to bother with. Having to go out of your way to cap shrines for a speed buff doesn’t exactly make it “faster”.

5. Defense is greatly Biased vs alpine! not completely true, like alpine, northern towers are easy for defenders to go to. Southern towers take time for defenders to respond, like alpine. Contesting waypoints is how you get away with assaulting most objectives. People are just more lazy now and less people take initiative enough to split off and do this. the only thing that is different is its harder to use player skills to kill siege, you often have to clear siege with siege if its being defended well. So this would be a commander error vs a defense bias.

North towers on desert are worthless, they serve absolutely no purpose. South towers serve the same purpose of being early warning signs of a force on the map, but on alpines you can also assault the keeps from them, so you cannot turn your focus away from them for too long, more so for swt.

On desert they were suppose to be the way pointed structure which turned into a major fail, they couldn’t even get it working properly half the time preventing enemies from porting in when they didn’t even own it. Those towers were suppose to be the quick port in and access to the middle area of the map, but the side keeps were then pain in the kittens to defend with only the emergency waypoint available, having no access to permanent port in made those keeps worthless to upgrade to t3. Eventually they moved the waypoints back to the keeps after we cried about it in here.

These arent just PPT related issues. WvW isn’t a deathmatch, so stop expecting that you need to do nothing to get the fights you want. If you are a large group looking for fights, if you don’t assault a keep properly, you will be outsieged and it is your fault, not the enemy for being “bad players who use siege.”

Why bother when you can just go to ebg or alpines and find those fights much easier in both cases of open field and structure sieges, on terrain that’s much more accommodating, it’s not like the 3 other maps are full all the time. Alpine’s garrison fights still tops my list of areas to get a good long fun fight, especially the three ways on reset nights.

Quite obvious they made the map for small groups to operate in, well, they got what they wanted for the map, smaller groups, albeit because a lot less players even playing. Too bad at the same time they also screwed up small groups with HoT additions.

Some hours some servers are more strong than others depending on where the players live and what their prime time is at. T1 shouldn’t have link servers. T2 should only have 1 link server if any. Too many link servers for 1 server and you throw them in T1 where they don’t want to be.

That’s all fine and dandy if 3 servers are expected to stay in t1 the entire 8 weeks, which is not the case these days. Besides of which there aren’t even 3 equal servers to dump into t1 by themselves.

You’re on FA, ranked 3rd, how do you think they would do against rank 1 JQ and rank 2 BG by themselves?

This maguuma server have 1.5 kill ratio and they still losing. They must have some serious l2p issues. Probably just sit in own keep and spam carts.

If that’s the case there’s a lot of dumb enemies standing under their carts for that kdr ratio.

Is this where I can sign up to be a villain of wvw?
I can do a pretty good good bad guy bad guy impersonations.
I even have my own “minions” although they’re not yellow.

Now before I get slapped with “off topic”.

There are many villains in pvp games, as mentioned realm/race/“whatever”, with the whatever mostly being celebrities, either person or guild. They all don’t have to exist but there is one that is common in almost every game, the hatred of individuals or guilds from other sides.

The other players who you run into every day “are” strangers of the day no matter what server you face, and that wouldn’t change unless they had stood out to you in which case you would make a personal note of their name or guild, which in gw2 case their rank and guild. Sure there are server reputations that have been built over the years, we know the famous ones like siegebend and blobgate, mostly based on how they fight as a server, but those reputations can change as well.

One of the biggest mistakes anet made in making wvw was not assigning actual background and common cause for all 3 sides, instead it’s nameless green blue red.
For comparison it’s like..
Green = FA, SoS, SBI, NSP.
Blue = Mag, BG, YB, TC.
Horde = Orc, Troll, Tauren, Undead.
Alliance = Human, Nightelf, Gnome, Dwarf.

They have 3 sides they built into the game Durmand Priory, Order of Whispers, Vigil, they have multiple gods and dragons they could have assigned those to servers instead to create a background identity. There’s nothing for green blue red for you to hate, and so it goes back unto the servers and their players and guilds, but when players and guilds move, servers lose their right to be primary servers in a matchup due to links, that hate that people look for to create a rivalry will disappear.

The game is missing that one big driving force for each side and has left it up to players to create those rivalries instead.

The new zones feel terrible as a result of that, yeah. Sure, nice, we are getting what people clamored a lot for especially in the first year, “Make new zones instead of re-cycling existing ones for living story”.

And yes, ofc, yay more landmass.

But while I can go back into the zones, they feel so purpose-designed, they feel immediately outdated once I’m done with the LS and got the maybe 3-4 items I want from the vendor. Their design just doesn’t feel like a natural part of the game world. It was ok when it was a single such zone, but now it also adds that it’s just… “rote”. Happens every time.

And I can’t begin to imagine how much dev time these zones must be eating up.

Well, living story is only for expansion accounts now, which is why they won’t recycle old zones and have to create new zones for just those accounts to access.

P.S Yes everything gets over hyped because there’s barely any information for players to cling to in the first place, so once they do get some information it gets exaggerated. Anet was also at fault for this in the early days, their sept 2014 feature pack had 3 weeks of blog posts to hype it up lol.

I’ve wondered what kind of balancing pve players expect from this?
Can someone give me examples of what could be changed with skills now that the spvp pros are no longer playing? I’m just genuinely curious on this. Pve still affects wvw so I don’t expect any crazy changes either, although we’ve seen they allowed some broken stuff to exist in there for months before bothering to look at it. If players can clear raids now with current comps I don’t see why they would want to change stuff.

Now that the pros aren’t playing I don’t even expect them to stick to quarterly balance changes.

How is the PvP these days?

So there’s no instanced pvp between 5v5 and WvW? Like no 15v15?

That’s a shame.

No, but that’s what wvw would provide as you can do anything from solo roam, havoc size 5-10, 15-25 organized groups or GuildvsGuild, 25+ zerg/blobs on a public commander tag.

In a way wvw is a massive sized Alterac Valley that’s constantly going.
