“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
Rangers really also need better aoes, their traps really should be at bow range, hell they should be skills on the bows, that could put them in the league of well necros. Their utility slots are already reserved for the defense skills they need to survive. The class is just too mis-mashed with melee because of how good their damage is with some melee and the close range of their utility skills.
When you look at a warrior, you know ok it’s good with melee weapons and can specialize in rifle or bow if need be. Rangers need to be the same, it’s good with bows and can specialize in melee weapons, that isn’t the case right now. Already enough melee classes out there, need another good ranged dps class to compete with necros.
I heard Choo is also thinking about leaving, maybe to JQ…If that happens it would be best for SoR to drop tiers and rebuild.
There are lot of rumors now on SoR… everyweek people says one of the big guilds are leaving… so I do not have any clue if this is true or not, as far as I know they still here.
Go read the matchup threads on the new site, some real selfish comments coming out of SoR there.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what new site?
Concern: ArenaNet won’t stop banging on about the Living World update plan and so will stick with it even if it’s not working.
Not true. ArenaNet is changing it this year. The original idea was to have four story teams making a month’s worth of content each, to be released in fortnightly bumps, and whatever mechanical features were ready at that time could be rolled in and included. ‘An online world updated more frequently than any other’ was the dream, but the reality was confusion.
“It’s very distracting to players,” observed Johanson. “It’s almost a muddled message, where we put these releases out and we want them to be excited about the story, to follow the story, and we also want them to be excited about the features that are coming with it. And either one or the other tends to be the thing that people cling onto.” And the other thing, people ignore.
“What we’re going to do this year is we’re actually separating the two of those out.”
All the big mechanical features ArenaNet is working on will be held back for a bumper update presumably in the spring/summer.
“When [Living World Season One] ends [on 4th March], we’re going to take a break for a little bit and then we’re going to do one really big feature patch that is more akin to what people see from some of our [MMO] competitors,” said Johanson, "where they bundle a lot of features together into a really big patch every now and then.
“We’re going to provide that experience and have this huge feature build that has a whole lot of gameplay-changing elements, a lot of quality of life improvements, a lot of features bundled together into one big patch. And that’ll come some time not too far after Season One completes.”
So yes… they will be delaying game features in favor of doing their “living story season”.
Which frankly is ridiculous, wvw is a separate system from the living story, so why does everything else need to be shoved aside to cater to living story first? Most wvw’ers I bet don’t even care about living story so why delay new wvw features. Arenanet has become such a frustrating company since release.
I heard Choo is also thinking about leaving, maybe to JQ…If that happens it would be best for SoR to drop tiers and rebuild.

Iron left them after season, Fear and Retribution moved to FA, XPK to JQ, Choo maybe moving to kaineng? TW rumored to be moving, although they’re the self appointed kings of SoR and looking to tank the entire server instead to drop tiers. Go read the matchup threads on the new site, some real selfish comments coming out of SoR there.
I’m not surprised this is finally happening, how long did people think the “for the fights” mantra was going to hold them up? They didn’t get to the top 3 by just fighting, people did both before and you can play for points and still get a lot of good fights, BG and JQ still do that.
There were players still playing for points to help keep the server competitive, imagine the strain they have been under to do so since most of the server gave up week 2 of the season. They are the only other server that had the population to compete in T1, they mishandled their pugs, they abandoned their point getters, hell they banned people on TS for no good reason, all in the name of GvG and trying to fight open field with guild numbers.
TC or FA are going to get to T1 eventually, hope they recruit enough off hours players to help them compete there.
Whenever there’s a call to not attack the door, there’s always that 1 kitten ranger that will keep attacking the door with his bow…
Other than that if you’re going range with ranger, might as well go warrior instead.
Since WvW has become the main point of contention, consider the following:
In WvW a person who has grinded enough can have:
Guard Killer: +100 power / +100 condition damage
Defense Against Guards: +250 VitalityThen of course there’s all the bonuses that make you deal more damage siege, attack faster with siege, take less damage against siege, carry more supply, etc, all of which giving an advantage to those who have worked for it.
Compared to the the ALREADY EXISTENT, LARGELY ACCEPTED stat increases available in WvW, how significant or insignificant is the stat increase from ascended items?
Ascended is another stat log on the fire not easily obtained as those buffs, in the end every little addition adds more to the advantage.
The stats from wvw are not always on, and you have to keep building the stacks again when you die, true it’s not exactly hard to do but it takes time after every single death. After the account wxp changes it most likely won’t be a big factor either as most will probably have the points for them.
I currently don’t have those buffs maxed on any of my characters but I’m looking forward to the change to get them maxed out. The difference between those buffs and ascended though is I know eventually just by playing I will get them, while ascended is a gold sucking grind hole that I don’t even want to bother with, I’d rather play without them and be angry at anet until they finally put a wvw way to obtain them.
Maybe because I’m a necro I really don’t feel hampered by not having extra damage on an arrow cart, stuff that can easily be avoided, the other buffs against objects have no reason to bother me either. Direct character stats will always seem more important than situational buffs which most of those wvw buffs cover.
Champ trains will no longer exist…
The rest of what you said sort of made sense, but this… this.. doesn’t make sense.
How exactly does creating an Open PvP server end champ trains?
You really think people will have the discipline to not gank each other while on those trains? the only ones that would survive are guild trains.
Relax, it’s not as easy as flipping a switch and it gets done.
They’re currently focused on eotm map, account exp will probably be the priority after that.
I agree to this…. On some conditions…
As long as they open a brand new world just for it…
Anet should offer no support for this server, enter at your own risk…
Everyone who likes open world pvp can move there for free, getting back off it is your own problem though…
That should take care of most of the “ganker” type pvpers.
Champ trains will no longer exist…
They might become the best skilled wvw server according to the op?
Population coverage will still rule though, so I think they might end up in last. XD
I just don’t understand why they didn’t release new super hard to acquire but beautiful armor skins and call it horizontal progression.
That would require them to make beautiful armor skins, which I’m sorry to say aside a few pieces they’ve made in the past year, nothing has been mind blowing good to me, hell some of the good stuff they stuck on town clothes which itself isn’t a good system either.
Anyone who doesn’t think Ascended helps is fooling themselves, every little bit adds up in the end to giving you an advantage, just like food and oils which is why you always see people reminding to eat them in wvw.
Tried spvp again last night after not playing it for some time just to do the daily, I don’t know if it was just lag or maybe the skills do take longer to respond but left me quite annoyed. OP condition builds are killer in there. I just didn’t like it, not much rewards after a few matches either.
Wvw is still the place for me to be.
SOS could still use more players and commanders for NA day and night time zones. We have an awesome OCX presence, just need to more in NA to help keep the momentum during the day.
Usually the top team in the matchup will get green or blue, and the lowest usually gets red or blue. It’s still kind of random, so I’m sure your server will switch through all three at some point, just slower since servers won’t move in rankings much now with the new changes.
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
Wvw was built to support a large amount of players on each side for big battles. You are going to bump into every size from solo roamer, havok squads, guild zergs, the massive pug zergs, that’s part of the challenge of wvw and people need to start accepting that. If you cannot handle that then there’s always fighting in the OS arena, or spvp where you won’t run into zergs.
There are still a lot of objectives that can be done solo, yak slapping, anti yak slapping, supply camps, sentries, ruins, these are still important parts of wvw. Oh too boring? the only other thing left than that is capping towers and keeps, and I don’t think that should be soloable but require teamwork.
What I don’t understand is the OP had a bunch of friends that all wanted to solo hunt? could have probably formed a successful havok squad instead.
Method 1 is out for me, I don’t agree to penalizing servers on points gain.
The problem is figuring out the prime time for each and every server, and not only that but it will fluctuate as not everyone logs on at the same times every time. And what about north american servers than have an outstanding night time presence such as sea of sorrows?
This is why they will not do such a solution, the only other way to activate bonuses is from actual triggered event that can help a side such as when outmanned comes up, apply the bonuses to those maps that have that buff on.
Not sure why they sorted ranks by color than actual ranks. Bronze silver gold recruit then move to bronze silver gold invader etc, seeing any legends will then be rare but at least I wont feel like I’m moving backwards from legend to bronze recruit.
I’m stating in general people should not think of penalties but rewards to keep scores closer, there are other posts stating to penalize points, I’ve seen it over and over again.
People with solutions need to think about bonuses to the losing teams not penalizing the winning team.
I already stated before give bonuses to those who are out manned, or own the orbs.
You cannot penalize points or play times for players, it’s not their fault the other servers they face don’t have the coverage.
Another fun night running with FW and Charizard! Taking Yak’s bend bl bay and garrison, another epic dismantling of t3 keep.
Could have had a full suit of raid gear in WoW with the amount of times you spent killing him…
SOR doesn’t play for PPT, so don’t need to bother to scout, refresh siege or escort yaks. The game rewards you mostly for offense, most people prefer to just fight.
In the end play the game for fun in your own way.
It was nothing in regards to R18, racist, or sexist, I haven’t heard anything like that in TS. It was more like a rage banning, not sure if it was a commander, he came from another BL channel to scream at EB group of like 20+ people to come and save hills in another BL, when someone said to calm down he banned them, and this was someone doing the gruntwork like scouting and building siege etc.
Some good commanders on here, the militia is disciplined enough when on team speak, even though two people got banned yesterday for telling someone to calm down…
The karma train usually only comes out at the end of the week in a blowout. I usually view it as a good time to reward people like the scouts who pour in a lot of time standing around scouting the enemy or refreshing siege, and have missed out on fights and captures during the week they get a little reward back at the end of the week at least.
Zerg train out every day if your server and time of day can support it, it’s not about karma gain, but either ppt gain or just looking for fights and trying to control the enemy zergs in the map.
The game supports other game play, roaming, solo, small havok group, if you don’t like zerg or karma train then don’t join them. I don’t understand people wanting to cut the rewards in wvw when it’s already less rewarding than pve, and they already did cut rewards in wvw before.
At the end of the day we also don’t want to drive players away from wvw, we need to drive more people into wvw (I don’t care what the elitist say about not wanting pve players, wvw is about filling the maps with numbers not their egos).
Shout out to FW and Charizard, nice cap of SBI hills today, masterfully done enjoyed the run!
Heh Star Trek would have gotten my vote here, they permanently added an entire new faction, new races, new ships, new zones, new story lines, updated their ui. How does a temporary couple zones update win over that? I guess Star trek needed to add a megaman zone in order to win this huh.
They’re on scouting duty since no one else volunteered…… XD
Because it guarantees you’ll have a bad matchup every other week. If you have the “correct” matchup this week, then next week you’ll get a matchup with 5 ranks between top an bottom servers. That’s a very big difference considering the population disparities between servers that are even adjacent in ranking.
They had bad matchups pretty much every week and worse yet they had matchups with 9-12 server rank spreads with the new system they put in six months ago. There’s no reason for a server to jump two tiers even to just “Test their might against higher servers”. With the one up one down the winner gets to move up to the “next” tier to test their might, they either keep winning and move up, settle into their rightful spot, or drop down again until they get to their rightful spot, but at least they will always be around servers of their own strength.
As for the resistance to scoring, who cares? it would take more than 100 people to pull a server from T8 to T1 and only if they have the right coverage. Again who cares? if a server down there manages to get enough people to take up that challenge and pull themselves up higher(a few others have already experienced this) then good for them. That is actually the good variable to matchups that’s needed, not the randomly throwing servers against each other regardless of their population and coverage.
Stacked servers only deserve to fight other stacked servers, 1-3 fight each other forever, maybe some people will move if they’re really bored, 4-9 really don’t care to get rolled over by them everytime.
Also needs to be mentioned once again, 1st moves up a tier, 2nd stays in their tier, 3rd moves down a tier, new matchups every week against servers close to your rankings.
Why can’t we do this already.
The rewards don’t usually match the risk, I think from day one arenanet has had that unbalanced. Some of the world bosses they dragged from a 2 minute to a 10 minute fight for the same rewards, I’d rather just run the champ train 2 rounds in that time, although I haven’t done either in quite some time, only put time into wvw now.
They ruined Tequalt, I love big outdoor fights like this but they overdid it on his revamp, how many servers haven’t killed him yet still? His rewards are not spectacular for the time and effort you need to put in either, a lot won’t bother even for the miniscule chance at an ascended weapon. Jormag to this day I still never see people use the shield on the gun to defend against his fear, I feel like I’m the only person that has learned that strategy to his fight, and yes a lot only bother trying to smack his nose than protect the golems.
As for zones they were designed so that players from higher levels can always go back to the lower ones and still get rewarded, but you won’t get rewarded as much as playing in a zone at your level anyways. I think they figured the combination of higher level players coming back to do zone completions and newer characters being leveled would keep zones alive. They’ve fallen into the same old dead zone problem of other mmos which means dynamic events are not triggering as often. WoW is now fixing the dead zone problem with cross realm zone mechanics.
I don’t bother with the jumping puzzles unless it’s giving me something unique like a skin, otherwise just not worth the time playing super mario in gw2. I don’t run dungeons or fractuals, cosmetic gear that doesn’t matter in wvw, I run on low texture for best frame rates which means everyone looks the same anyways, and frankly I don’t really care what the person next to me is wearing either.
There’s very few items in the game I find look good, too many back pieces to change, too many one sided shoulder pieces, but need to buy the level 80 transmutation stones or buy the piece again to do the transmutation, ugh I just don’t bother anymore. Please steal Rifts wardrobe idea.
Yes I do believe there should be adjustments to the game, and we should all no longer look to balancing the population because that will never happen. No matter how many times you try to promote low fee or free transfers, population and coverage is something no one has control over. The game mechanics need to be changed to compensate for this, that’s if Arenanet really wants this to be competitive, and I’m assuming they do if they keep doing wvw seasons.
I already made a suggestion thread about it but doesn’t look like people were interested, just another suggestion lost in the forum jungle.
1. Why are there player levels in GW2?
I don’t think leveling should go away all together, there are new players entering the game and need to learn the mechanics as they level, rather than feeling overwhelmed and lost as soon as they come in. Which is what a lot of new wvw players apparently already feel. I would agree to boosting characters after you’ve leveled at least one character to 80. I hate leveling and I’ve come to really hate leveling in pve.
2. Gear grind even before ascended.
I would not offer exotics for free. I think one of the best things about exotic gear is all the different options to obtain them, something that is lost with the ascended tier.
From karma, crafting, wvw badges, gold, dungeon badges, random drops, mystic toilet. This wide range of options needs to be present for every level of gear except for the legendary.
3. Ascended Gear.
Ascended gear has put a serious limitation at the top tier of gears. There’s no decent way to obtain it, some people like that a lot of people don’t, the worse thing about ascended is that you’re stuck with the stats. As mentioned if someone wants to try out a new spec well they will just have to put exotics on to do it, because there’s very few that will craft two separate sets of armor for the same character. And what happens down the road when arenanet is doing a balance sweep and nerf something like say condition damage, yeah imagine the screaming that will happen.
Ascended were added to give a sense of progression to legendaries? Well guess what legendaries are only skins, they will have the same stats as ascended, so there’s no real progression there, just a really long grind for a set of gear that you’re stuck playing with in that spec you built it for. So yes treat them as legendaries, they will have the same stats for crying out loud, and allow stat changes.
The only thing Ascended gives me progression to is leaving the game. Until Ascended is obtainable as widely as exotics it will only hamper the game.
4. Currencies
Don’t have a problem with currencies at the moment just glad I don’t have to store it all in bank slots. Speaking of which I think raging about paying for increase max stack totals would be better at the moment.
I don’t like the idea of ascended in what this game was suppose to be, especially the ways they choose to provide them, where’s the wvw alternative? Five 80’s with multiple weapons needed for each? and soon armor sets? and maybe legendary armors after? yeah I’m not grinding the gold out for that. I also haven’t done Tequalt since like the first week of his revamp and likely never will again so that route is also out.
I wouldn’t use the first and probably the second week after the tough seven weeks of the first season, as a good reading of servers being balanced. I would imagine a lot of servers and players are taking a break, plus there is going to be some movement of guilds again. So wait a couple weeks for things to settle and back to normal again.
I wouldn’t look at the matchups at the moment as they’ve been screwed up with the season, certain servers are not where they should be. Would wait another week or two to get a good reading from the matchup monitor.
As for recommended server something middle of the order would probably suit you, although there will never be a true not getting rolled or rolling the enemy effortlessly, because of the mismatching that happens often in this system.
If you want something on the top, Jade Quarry or Tarnished Coast would be ok, Blackgate doesn’t need any more, Sanctum of Rall gave up in the league.
Sea of Sorrows could also use more north american players
Kinda funny the measly amount of wxp they gave out for a pvp reward, there’s 9000+ rank levels are they really that afraid to give some of those levels away? lol
Happy I got the tomes to help level another alt with, the greens were pointless why bother putting them in, could have made it more special by giving us more of the stuff we don’t see often, like the keg of wxp, the tomes, etc. Oh well, can expect a lot of players not to give a kitten about season 2.
EB, the amount of siege in smc was insane, every tower had trebs at doors and scouts ready. A little overdone with it being thursday and the match already decided.
Geez TC an ounce of resistance and you guys start roleplaying marathon runners. Last night before reset, you had no problem running down our outmanned crew this afternoon, come out and do some open fights you don’t need to ppt.
Commander Tyryon De los Bravos from Fort Aspenwood, best commander in FA.
—> Hes first time against " AGG "
—> one of the many funny moments.
GGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
I’m just waiting for one of the intense commanders to say that in the end. XD
My commander vote goes to Luvpie from SOS, outnumbered or lack of certain classes still going to get a good fight.
There are various things they can add for wvw’er, and catering to the guilds will probably get you the most sales, as it seems people have more guild pride than anything these days.
1. As mentioned allow guild claims to decorate their tower as a theme, halloween, wintersday, valentines, medieval, etc. These should include a sign on the wall near the gate that says [Owned by Guildname]. Sell these themes at the time of the events if you want to make them special.
2. Sell wvw skin versions of the town clothes without the extra skills. How many wvw’ers would want to run around as the mad king? Add in the store more separate skins of wvw themed helms shoulders back gloves, these are items that stand out.
3. More inspiring finishers, guild banner stakes as mentioned, bigger signs that says [Finished By Playername!], [Guildname Represent!], Guildname Wuz Here!], [Guildname 4 Lyfe!]
4. Add in new themed skins for siege weapons, catapults made of bones, rams lit on fire, trebuchets looking like christmas trees.
5. Taunting banners that players can be planted anywhere like warrior banners but bigger, ones with messages written such as the finishers in number 3.
6. Design mounts with normal run speed, can pick up regular speed buffs. Do you know how much of a killing WoW makes on selling mounts? They sell mounts for $25 and even starting to sell helms for $15.
I forgot to also mention that the roles of defenders should play a more prominent role in holding structures while under the outmanned buff. They have the ability to detect when players are in a capture ring to proceed with the capture timer, would it really be difficult to add in an invisible ring around the entire structure to detect when friendly defenders are in there and provide some bonus points as well?
The bonus should only be triggered when the defending side is outmanned, there are 3 or more players in the structure and it is currently under attack, ie white swords are up. The bonus could trigger every 2 minutes, and the defenders get some extra wxp and score bonus. Scouts could also earn a bonus with this method of detection of how long a person has been at the structure, I would however put that timer higher than the afk time out timer, to try and limit people from taking advantage of that, not that the bonus should be worth going after for 15mins anyways.
I would like to keep any bonus scores given on certain conditions met rather than outright multiplying the score. Conditions you basically have little control over but can take advantage of when it’s around. Almost like a rng proc from a weapon providing a little extra damage. Adding more ways to earn score in wvw other than taking structures wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Thanks for the response guys.
I only suggest this because I want games to be closer, it’s exciting when the scores remain close for most of the week. I’ve been in a few close games including the first week in the gold season with jq bg sor. It makes a big difference when you’re playing in a match like that rather than a bg sos mag matchup which will never be close to a competition because of bg’s population.
About balancing the ppt score. They will never be able to balance populations, that portion of the game will always be unbalanced, but who’s to say the scoring has to be balanced in that situation? Again this isn’t like a sports competition where every side is playing on even numbers, and coaches and skill determine the win. Why shouldn’t the smaller wvw teams who face greater odds not be rewarded more for their efforts?
Not fair to the winning team to be penalized for winning?
Not the winners server fault for having strong numbers?
You are right, but, it’s also not the fault of the smaller server that they don’t have the numbers to compete either, or that they are constantly thrown into blow out matchups. Why should they continue to be penalized for that? Guilds move for top competition that’s why we’re getting stacked servers or getting paid to transfer, they have even moved off successful servers, in the end it’s not the servers fault and they shouldn’t be so heavily penalized almost every match for that.
The suggestion doesn’t penalize the winning server, they will all earn points the same way as before, it gives out bonus points, but instead of just basically only giving it to the winning team who’s already winning it helps the bottom teams. Arenanet already opened the gates for bonus scoring by adding in the points for stomps, which again favors the top team because of coverage and their zerg to overrun smaller groups.
They can use the buffs more positively for players stuck in those situations. We’re outmanned and there’s a zerg running around with scouts everywhere, can’t do much of that, but maybe my havok squad of 10 people can go flip a tower and set up some defense to hold off the zerg while we earn points as if we have 3 towers, bonus points for killing with siege. We just got a bloodlust buff? excellent maybe our roamers can grab a couple extra points with their kills.
You can’t change the population situation, but you can change the quality of the points, quality over quantity right?
While there are many players not caring about scoring anymore, and I bet being blown out or matching up against servers they have no chance against over and over moved them to that. Happy not worrying about the score anymore? cool happy for those that enjoy the game like that as well, but there is another side of the coin, there are many who still do care to play to win for their server. If Arenanet is going to continue to treat wvw as a competition with ongoing seasons, then yes they still need to try and balance it for all teams involved.
Well we all know of the biggest problem with wvw these days is population and coverage, and the season highlighted it much more than ever. If you have greater coverage in a match you most likely will win, and win by the time the weekend is over.
We have all looked for solutions on how to balance populations, like offering transfers to lower server reduced cost or for free, that may work to some degree if players are willing to move down to get away from the queue of the stacked servers.
May even try to reduce capacity in the maps, which again will force players in those queued maps to spread out especially the guilds, and may even work on reducing the zerg ball, but I love those big open field fights, as long as it’s near equal numbers, plus we don’t need maps to feel empty.
Limiting points gain in none primetime/overnight but that restricts other players during their normal playtimes, the game runs 24/7 and it’s not fair to limit those players who are not in your primetime zone their right to play.
Either way I don’t think population problems will ever go away and I think we need to look at wvw competitive balance in a different angle.
The current game.
Team A, usually has the best coverage, gains the bloodlust buff more often than not, gains the bonus points for stomps which helps sway the match more into their favor, usually accumulates enough points by monday to run away with the match.
Team B and C, anywhere from close to equal cover to don’t even belong in that tier, Team C is usually getting double teamed for their bases because they are an easy target, when really Team B and C should be beating on A.
Arenanet introduced a very interesting mechanic in earning score points from stomping people while under bloodlust, so why don’t we expand on that.
Example Proposal.
Team A earns 1x points from bloodlust as normal, they would earn no bonus points from outmanned buff.
Team B earns 2x points from bloodlust buff, they would earn 2x bonus on structures and also earn score points from siege kills while under outmanned buff.
Team C earns 3x points from bloodlust buff, they would earn 3x bonus on structures and also earn score points from siege kills while under outmanned buff.
The bonus amount will need to be tweaked obviously, and teams will have their bonus points gain change according to their current rank in the matchup. If teams are within 10k points of each other then the bonuses should be turned off. If Team A is 5k ahead of Team B and Team C is 15k behind Team B, then only Team C is earning the bonus. The two conditions are random enough that the two lower teams will not completely keep up with the top team.
The conditions should be helping the lower teams rather than only buffing up the top team. The top team should be rewarded as Arenanet explained in their reasoning for the bloodlust buff back when it was the orbs, but their coverage is already the reward for them which allows them to win matches easier, as well as in this scenario of points collecting they have the ability to deny/limit their enemies access to the bloodlust buff much more than the other two teams.
So what’s the point of keeping teams so close in points you may ask, might as well not have a points score. Well the reverse is also true since the start, what’s the point of scoring when the top coverage team is always running away with matchups. The point is to keep the matchup close enough so that all sides continue to compete through the week, but you still have to work at keep it close. Many times a server will just give up on bothering about ppt when they know who’s going to win the matchup from the moment the match starts.
END: The short story – 2nd 3rd place earn more points while under bloodlust and outmanned to help stay competitive. Instead of just outright rewarding the bonus to the top team, use the buffs to help the lower teams, the top team still gets rewarded with coverage and the option to deny their foes points.
WvW will never be comparable to sports competitions because of population imbalances, so change the points system not the population.
(edited by Xenesis.6389)
You would get players taking all their supply from keeps and towers, and it would take a much longer time to upgrade towers and keeps if that happened. Commanders always try to get players to take supply from camps only and leave the supply in keeps and towers for upgrades and siege, unless it’s maxed out on upgrades.
You’re going to end up with a lot more screaming over /map about taking supply. Leave the zerg to taking supply from camps, especially camps in enemy territory.
Server: SOR
League: Gold
Enjoyed Season 1: NO
Should we have season 2?: NO
Servers were unbalanced population wise before the league started as well as the ratings because of their crazy ratings system. First and foremost coverage will determine the winner, and unless they work on either fixing the population of servers or help the losing servers in matchups there is no point to running a league. Things such as changing the bloodlust stomp points, make it 1 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, make the winning server work harder to hold off the bloodlust buff since they have more population to do it, make this work for the outmanned buff as well. I suppose that’s really a discussion for another thread, which they would never read I’m sure.
All the league has done is further encourage some people and servers not to care and bother playing. I got my achievements done by week 2, but haven’t logged on much lately and probably won’t until after season or whenever my server decides they want to compete again.
Why stop there if you want simple, just ask for them to remove all the buildings, give us a flat piece of land with a river running straight through it with one bridge so we can have bridge fights all week……
If you take out the point scoring then the wvw maps are useless/pointless and everything will devolve into a karma train. Obviously the point system needs a lot of work because of population imbalances, imbalances that anet encouraged because of their stubbornness to change it, you remember night time capping topic? they said to deal with it. Lowering transfer cost to the top 3 servers to 800 gems before season start, what a huge mistake.
There are many fixes that can be done, like how about the stomps for points giving 3 points for the 3rd places team and only 1 point for the 1st place team, give extra points for kills in your own base on defense hell set that up with a guild fort buff, how about the out-manned buff giving extra bonus points for capturing a base and on kills.
Finally, if you duelers and guild vs guilders want a place of your own then start asking for it and stop trying to ruin world vs world. Although it already looks like the new wvw overflow map will be right up your alley for this.
I see Sor still hasn’t figured out what their problem is, it’s not about the ppt, you can win without having to micromanage the ppt which rall has manage to do to stay in the top three. It’s about the commanders and guilds hiding from the community in their foxholes, the guilds run around as small havok squads because some of them don’t like running with pugs, and some of them are so paranoid of spies they don’t run with the tag or pugs.
The other issue is commanders, basically only one is allowed to show on a map at any given time, when someone else tags up even by accident you can sometimes hear the disdain in the current commanders voice questioning why is that person tagged up. You want to break up the zerg and yet only run one tag most times? Some non main commanders out there seem hesitant to take up commanding either for stepping on toes or lack of experience. There’s guild training that always happens, is there also commander training?
Rall complains about the blobs that they encounter, they seem to think that other servers should play at their level, they shouldn’t blob and they shouldn’t get new guilds. But this is tier one, both those are going to happen, get use to it and work around it or move to a lower tier. One russian guild moved onto bg, and rall guilds all of a sudden gives up for days after, just think of the chain reaction on morale that did for the server.
You say this committee is by the community for the community? how about starting to truly work with your entire community, the guilds and commanders need to start leading in the open. You don’t have to go out of your play time and do overtimes, you don’t have to manage the ppt, take whatever places you can, smash the enemy whenever you can. But your “community” which is made up of a lot of players from small guilds or the guildless need to see the main guilds having a presence on all maps so they can follow and help. Train the pugs in the process. I hope you all understand the importance guilds and commanders have on the morale of wvw players.
Seriously, players like you are such tools.
good riddance
Nice, to be expected I guess.
And no sorry I’m not leaving Rall and I’m also not giving up, I play gw2 for wvw only I don’t do dungeons, I don’t do most of the new content because it’s fluff, I champ farm when waiting in queue. When bg rolled the score over us this week I was still in there havok squading flipping camps and sentries and running with the shrunken zerg. I transferred from sos to sor in order to get on a server with more people for more options to do wvw.
Yeah I am a pug not part of a main guild, but I do a lot of what is asked of any other players, I’m on TS, I do supply runs to help repair bases and build siege, I tap siege when needed the pugs get blamed for them disappearing even though the people who dropped it don’t bother to do it themselves or remind others, I run ruins for the bloodlust buff, I’ve solo capped supply camps and sentry points even in places not convenient to be in, I report enemy movements even when I lashed back “we already know” for doing so, I don’t take supply from bases unless it’s near cap or upgrades are done especially smc, you drop a ram I’m running to build it and then let a better operator use it, I don’t attack the door when asked, I stack when asked for an ambush or supply checkittenep up with the zerg formation, I eat my food and oils, I have the correct gear and specced for survival on a necro in zerg battles, I plague to help save the melee train, I plague to help commanders escape while I sacrifice myself, did I miss anything? well etc etc etc
Would just like my server to play as a team again, not as a bunch of groups out for personal glory.
This probably should be posted on the sor forums, but since it seems sor doesn’t want to care about their server pride at the moment I’m just going to spill it here.
There’s been a problem brewing on sor for some time, it just hadn’t reared it’s ugly head before the season started but it’s something I noticed as the weeks went by, a certain attitude from sor guilds and and sor commanders. Last week “for the fights” mantra I kept hearing really made me disappointed in sor as well. Look, every player and guild has the right to play the game however they want, I’ve been a part of guilds like that, but there is a time and place for these things.
We all have had an entire year to go around to just “for the fights!” and not worry about the scoreboard, the moment we started the season that should have been put aside until certain things happened. When we’re far ahead or behind in score with no chance of the score flipping towards the end of the week, hey forget the siege and go for the fights, no one would have a problem with that.
The first three days of a match up when we’re all fighting to take the lead put your efforts before yourselves and do something for your server, get the points from ppt or grab the orb buff and get to stomp. If you can’t find it in yourself to help your server win a match up in a season then please get off the top 3 servers where everyone went to get the top competition. You can find fights just as well fighting on the other side and arrange your gvg’s as well if that’s your thing.
It’s sad that sor is not motivated by the season, servers like maguuma and sos fought and stayed in gold league while others may have tanked, even though they have no chance to compete in it. I’m glad they’re making a wvw overflow map, a lot of guilds are going to fit right in there, no points for the server, plenty for yourselves, and nothing but fights.
Sor is self destructing because of the guilds, some of them are unwilling to play with others, they pull good players from the server into their guild and then play among themselves. I’ve heard commanders sound disgusted they have too many pugs with them, some will do things to shake them off, some commanders are unwilling to work with pugs at all, which I think is very important to maintaining numbers on your side.
If you are not out there leading whether we’re winning or losing with the pugs they will give up wandering around aimlessly getting slaughtered. But I suppose that’s what you want right? well 12:30pm on a saturday outmanned on a bl, the pugs have already given up and the ap hunters are gone so who’s left to fill the space?
Now you guilds have what you wanted, an open queue and a ton of bg to fight, but the price? There is hurt pride and broken morale all in the name of just looking for fights to fill your bags up, and it’s only week 3 of 7 where we were expected to compete for first, instead what’s left of the season is talk of waiting to 2v1 with jq on bg on week 7, so I guess we should just get the karma train running for 4 weeks huh.
I know commanding the pug zerg can be trying on the nerves, but if you want better players you need to train and lead them, all I ever hear is blame being set on them for anything that goes wrong. Even the week before the season I mentioned in chat that commanders should be out and leading, and yet I got back the “it’s training week for guilds” that attitude was bound to bite us back.
Then I constantly hear well bg has two times our numbers, of course they do they use their pugs, you fight with your minimum numbers and claim to have better skill but unless the lag and skill lag goes away completely, or you have more skillful players than the other side then it means nothing, numbers will crush you and be available at more places than you can be at once. Your pugs will also not get better if you keep throwing them to the wolves, ridicule them, and blame them for everything.
We still have a number of excellent guilds and commanders around, I appreciate the work they do to coordinate us and creating the fun that can be had from wvw. I don’t need to name other guilds or commanders this was in regards to, if you read this and are offended then really ask yourself if it’s true, do you care enough to help the server or not, if you’re not offended then I’ll say keep on fighting please, the people that follow appreciate it, Rally up Rall.
