North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
Actually the wow player pool is exactly where they should be looking for players, where else would you find 10 million players already interested in mmos? I’ve played many mmos and wow for many years, including a one month stint with the latest expansion after a 3 year break from it. I’m back to playing GW2 for wvw, I’m sure there are others like me who can play GW2 without the wow mindset, I also know of a friend who can’t play anything else without the wow mindset. Both types of players exist and it’s really not the best interest of GW2 to ignore wow players entirely.
That doesn’t mean killing the uniqueness of GW2 and dumbing down the systems. I just recently leveled a new thief to 80 through the NPE and I still think the NPE is terrible compared to the old system, the new pacing and rewards did not seem to be better especially with the new trait system. How many actual true newbie mmo players do you really think GW2 will get now? over something else as big as wow? Many of the GW1 players who wanted to try GW2 probably have at this point already too. The NPE systems was a complete waste of dev time, some things needed to changed sure, but not the entire leveling experience.
Dunno why people making such a big deal about mounts.
You can have them at 25% run speed, so swiftness is still better, a lot of classes have access to 25% run speed anyways.
Only allowed in outdoor pve zones, not allowed in wvw, spvp, dungeons, city hubs.
You don’t have to remove waypoints they’re still faster to travel around with, (another topic I don’t know why people complain about, the cost it’s next to nothing).
It opens a big area for Anet to make some money in the gem store as well as a heavy gold sink if they wanted, and if you think they don’t sell tell that to blizzard who make millions off just one mount. You can even make them themed like the monthly weapons that are released. It’s certainly a better area to make money in than mini’s.
You think seeing a mount will make you think the game is wowified? here’s a fyi wow isn’t the only game and certainly not the first game to have mounts. If you want GW2 to be like GW1, it’s too late that ship sailed long ago. At this point Anet is only in this to make money off the gem store and living story.
I was thinking about more rewarding scout play the other day and one thought that crossed my mind was starting an event that required you to scout certain places.
So for example:
1. Zone into the borderland and get handed a new event to scout out certain areas.
For example:
a. Scout out the poi of north camp, nw camp, ne camp.
b. Scout out the poi of south camp, sw camp, se camp.
c. Scout out the poi of nw tower, ne tower, sw tower, se tower.
d. Scout out the poi of garrison, bay, hills.
Optionally you can do one side of the map instead, north camp, nw tower, nw camp, bay (reverse for east), also sw camp, sw tower, south camp, se tower, se camp, lastly garrison, nw sw s se ne ruins.
Optional option make it four points for every event, with the four being random all the time, but might be a pain to receive something like nc, swc, hills.
2. Once completed you receive a wvw champ bag as a reward.
3. Handed another event to scout out more areas.
You can either hand the new events out random order(probably better to avoid bots) or build them up(camps then towers and keep events) so that the final scout event before it all repeats offer an additional bag or something.
No afk rewarding, you gotta move around the map if you want your reward.
Other things to consider, motion detectors are already in eotm, offer them in wvw as well now, or make it a new trap to show the red dots on the map for the limited time.
I also like the idea of a signal flare built anywhere, but it might be abused. I suggest signal flares activated from the lord of towers or keeps. Once a structure is under the repel the attackers event you will be able to talk to the lord to ping the minimap much like orange sword of an attack, maybe red swords, this can only be done once per event.

I don’t know who the people are that Anet uses as a focus group or for alpha testing, but I think they might want to add a few non K-trainers or at least include a few people who spend most of their time scouting.
The more I play without those swords, the more annoying it has become.
They apparently got these ideas while running with wvw guilds during the fall tournament, most of whom I’m sure don’t scout.
Does anybody have any idea on how to better track enemy havoc groups and get some more fighting between these groups?
Either track them out of spawn, or wait till they take an objective and predict where they will go next, the groups are still very predictable on what they will hit. That will probably change eventually as groups play with the freedom they have now.
Or straight up contact them if you really want to fight someone.
At the very least there should have been an official thread discussing these changes to wvw.
The wvw devs haven’t even responded to anything in this forums for months. The trial has been set for a month and they’re probably off for the holidays already anyways lol.
T2 NA
One of the dumbest changes to wvw. I know it’s great for the offensive minded people, because frankly they can either get away with taking stuff easily now or they didn’t care in the first place they only looked for the orange swords, but it’s going to destroy the last bit of play for the defensive and ppt people.
Scouts will now have a lot more work to do, keeping an eye on structures and camps, all the sneaky spots, scouting multiple groups running on the map, with not even something extra to reward them for it other than extra headaches.
I know there are those out there that will say “well get out of the towers and go kill someone”, which obviously they’ve never taken the role of a scout or they would know it’s more than just looking out from the wall of a tower. It involves siege up a place, recapping places, hunting down roamers or havoc, tracking zerg movements on the map and reporting it, delaying zerg attacks so your side has time to respond. No white swords means you need to do these things much more diligently or things can swing out of control much faster now.
Day 2 and borderlands turning into karma trains. By the end of the testing period I’m sure a lot more people will have turned away from defense and just focus on offense. Why bother wasting gold defending and upgrading structures.
PPK was a good change, removing white swords was not.
Well, it’s nice to see an official topic on RNG. Honestly RNG has gotten out of control in games in recent years. Before gear was given out simply, you either won it or you didn’t, if you won you randomly got gear out of one group not 6 different levels of rares. These days it goes through an entire system has been heavily diluted, from just winning, to what you win to the stats on what you win.
1. RNG from to see if you won something.
2. RNG from different levels of magic find to see what group of gear you won, trash/common/uncommon/rare/exotic/ascended groups.
3. RNG to see what level of rarity of item out of the chosen group.
4. RNG to see which piece of gear out of that finalized group.
5. RNG to primary or secondary stats of that gear.
6. Add in special drops that may or may not be in those existing groups or a separate group that can make the system worse, (exotic commander spoon really?).
I don’t know how far into the system GW2 goes, but having a secondary system in place for “failing” to receive a proper reward many times, would be a welcome change, so basically category 2.
The token system does already exist in GW2 from dungeon tokens and wvw badges, eventually you get an exotic of your choice using that system, (would be nice if this was extended to ascended items as well but I know that’s not going to happen).
There is another game that had a points system, where if you gathered enough points you would be able to buy gear that was near the quality of raid gear to help gear you up in a secondary manner, since raids were only completable once a week. This would probably work well on something like Tequatl, face him 50 times and still haven’t gotten anything good? then take the points you earn from killing him to buy something from his loot table.
I would like to see a system where if you haven’t won something in say a weeks work of playtime, your chances to get a rarer drop becomes higher. In other words for the case of GW2 your magic find goes up to the maximum until you find something good such as exotic level and above. But magic find is another random system that I would like to see removed altogether, it should not be an open stat for people to improve upon it should be one flat stat for everyone.
The other problem comes up when ascended items drop and you don’t have a choice in the stats you get, making the item most times a waste of a drop especially since you can’t even sell it off to another player.
Overall the randomness of the game needs to be toned down, the system is so bad at randomly rewarding players that it mostly rewards the middle ground of potential rewards. Every day I see bags full of trash, blues, and greens, and sometimes a rare or two, and all I see is bags full of items I have to break down to get my lucky charms up, it’s not exciting and it’s not something I look forward to logging on for.
How about… They create a regular expansion like every other MMO out there including their own GW1, and I hand over my $40 to buy that expansion when it’s ready?
They had money to waste on redesigning the entry levels of the game, and open it up in Asia, I’m sure they would have the monetary backing to create an expansion if they needed it.
How about we just take out PPT altogether, take out the bloodlust, and just award points for breaking down walls and doors (bonus points for reinforced), killing lords and supervisors, and stomping people(fastest way to get points). That way the ppt people still get points for taking stuff, the gvg fighting people get points for killing. No one has to worry about a high ppt for a few hours wrecking the scores, and everyone is happy getting points still for doing what they want.
Good luck getting any information about the future of this game from them, seriously it’s like they think this is some sort of secret project for the defense department or something. People know what’s coming in the next warcraft expansion a whole year before it, but here in gw2 we get massive changes to wardrobe/dyes, megaservers, etc which we only learn about two weeks in advance of release in their “special blogs”.
" (ô¿ô) "
But whatever, if all they want to do is quietly pump out living stories for gem sales, and give out no hope on the future of this game so be it, they’ll start to lose vets at a faster pace.
When the devs make a game that mostly loot starves you, it’s not surprising people will resort to loot farming at every opportunity, karma trains, silverwastes, pavilion, labyrinth etc. And do it while you can before they nerf it.
I think by now a lot of players have already completed the achievements too so they’ll just slip into chest farming, I did most of mines by the weekend and just finished gold and silver boss kills one last night. You may only get one shovel at amber, but if 20 people get it, it’s more than enough to uncover all the chests in that area. Even if you spread the chests out evenly in all areas, eventually players would just flock to one area anyways.
No point to farming the bosses or legendaries after you’ve done them once, unless you missed out on the tendons from the bosses for the new skins, which don’t interest me. Maybe at least putting the chest loot on them would keep people running them. There’s still organized maps anyways to join if you need anything else done.
We have been complaining about loot for a long time and in the last two events they have given us a decent way to get it, I’m not going to complain about it, it’s nice to get rewarded for putting time into the game. This is one of their best living story updates so far.
Eotm pretty much destroys any ideas to get rewards with regular badges. They could make a new level of badges and only have them drop off actual level 80 players with diminishing returns, you can only get a badge off the same player once an hour or something. Scouts and roamers will get screwed out of this as usual, but the zergs and gvgers would get rewarded pretty well.
I like the idea of rewards tracks like spvp and yes only for wvw not eotm. Let eotm be the entry map, you farm badges to eventually buy gear and siege at level 80, do wvw tracks in wvw for the next level of gear.
There’s really no reason to raise the caps to 90 or 100. Everything you need to add in for level progression new traits, skills, equipment, etc, new zones, can be added without needing to raise the levels. Although adding new trait level would have been easier in the old system since they had 60-80 open for it, but oh well. Levels are only there to show power progression and to spread out new skills/traits/equipment so that people don’t get confused snickers, it’s not needed beyond 80 unless they plan to add a ton of stuff past that, which I highly doubt.
New equipment? legendaries will always be top of the line, but something beyond ascended? after the grind they make us go through for it? you would have to add new items in a way that’s not easier to get, or you devalue the work put into ascended pieces by the players, either way that would be a swift kick to the kittens. They’ve fumbled the way they dealt with vertical progression with the massive roadblock of ascended, adding something like ascended 2.0 will probably make a lot of people rage quit.
Lastly, if you raise caps you will also need to re-balance the uplevel zones (like wvw or special zones like the labyrinth etc) and stats from 80-90/100 on players and npcs. Do we really need them to waste time on that?, already wasted more than a year on the npe re-balancing.
Really?
So many things wrong with this post. “Sea of Swag” that alone says how bad the attitude of T2 and SoS in particular has gotten in the past year. Congratulations you’ve just stamped the approval for Mag 2.0.
SEA OF SORROWS not SEA OF MAGSWAG.
What you might see as “complaining”, I see it as players pointing to problem areas of the game, and something the developers should pay attention to especially if there’s a lot of discussion surrounding it. If you don’t “complain” you won’t get the changes needed.
Sure, there’s a lot of negative posts out there, some from just outright angry people, and some from people who have tried the constructive way but have eventually been led down to the dark side of disappointment after being ignored for so long. Two years of mostly ignoring your customers will get you that.
I do appreciate seeing the CDI threads coming out, provides some organization to the complaints, now hopefully something useful comes out of them.
GW2 is indeed a great game, it has one of the best combat systems in mmos, it’s got one of the more unique game modes with wvw that only a couple games can compete with, and it’s got all the other typical mmo features in the game already.
What they need to do is get their priorities more in line with their customers and maintain/update those areas of the game. That includes things such as: new wvw maps, new spvp maps, new dungeons, new raids, new races, new classes, new weapons, new skills, gvg mode etc. Don’t expect the complaints to die down if we go another year without any meaningful additions to the list above.
I would rather hear the complaints from a player, because it’s obviously something that’s bothering their enjoyment, than just not saying anything and leaving the game altogether.
I have it bound to my left alt button, when I’m not jumping I’m looting XD
YB has a solid PPT-focused core which knows it can rely on calling our open field guilds for help defending/assaulting a structure if the need arises.
That’s how it use to be on SoS, with a good balance between both play styles. Now there’s only a couple commanders/guilds willing to bring a force for defending or assaulting waypoints, and a lot of times now it’s “did they bring 30+?”. Hopefully that doesn’t change for you over time as YB stays in T2 and, if, more “fight” guilds move over to you.
Personally I’ve been impressed with YB’s calls to defense, tapping a keep summons 10 people, assaulting a tower summons 25, assaulting a keep summons 40 plus golems. They also now have much more complete coverage in all timezones than SoS ever did. SoS sea/ocx are weaker, our eu never really existed, Pain won’t be able to rebuild it as they usually raid between sea and eu prime, eu prime is when the golem rushes come out and we can barely summon defenders on most days. NA is our strongest now but at the same time it’s loaded on fight guilds.
T2 is getting closer to balance again since Mag left, but we all know YB can break that at any point they choose.
I just tried 5 maps and all but one were only a handful of people, the one other only had a guild of 10 in there and kept on getting wiped to the lich. Something seems broken, or maybe Anet drastically reduced the map pops on purpose, would be nice to know either way. Not really much fun going in there right now.
Have to ask yourself how much time you want to spend planning and having fun with this giveaway. If you give 1000g in one shot you’re going to make one person very happy and probably fund their legendary. If you give away 100g to 10 people, you just made 10 people happy. Do you want to run one event or maybe four or ten?
As for the contest, if this is just for the forums then photo contests are the only way to go. As others mentioned, selfies with npcs, scenery, most unique/interesting locations, weather/sky shots can get interesting in the game, photobomb, interesting poses/fights etc.
Good luck and have fun with this.
SoS has lost their ocx raiding guilds to BG, not that they raided much in the last few months supposedly, how much population goes with them or how much that affects ppt overnight who knows, but I haven’t been waking up and seeing a 10k lead tacked on our score this week. Our sea is also weaker, our eu is the weakest as usual, NA is more about fights than anything, so things are balancing out coverage wise.
Don’t know if SoS is on break, there was no reason to do overtime during seasons, YB may also be on a high this week, who knows but them. It’s been a nice match this week, even though at times I’ve been in ebg this week it seems like YB doesn’t know that the FA side exist. XD
YB has also done a great job holding their garri and ebg keeps, but I don’t know how hard SoS has tried to push them as I’ve heard a couple commanders not wanting to hit YB, I guess to help them settle into T2, but we’ll see what happens next week.
Been waiting for this, old post.
The current game.
Team A, usually has the best coverage, gains the Bloodlust buff more often than not, gains the bonus points for stomps which helps sway the match more into their favor, usually accumulates enough points by Monday to run away with the match.
Team B and C, anywhere from close to equal cover to don’t even belong in that tier, Team C is usually getting double teamed for their bases because they are an easy target, when really Team B and C should be beating on A.
Arenanet introduced a very interesting mechanic in earning score points from stomping people while under bloodlust, so why don’t we expand on that.
Proposal.
Team A earns 1x points from bloodlust as normal, they would earn no bonus points from outnumbered buff.
Team B earns 2x points from bloodlust stomps, they would also earn 2x bonus on held structures and also earn 2x score points from siege kills while under outnumbered buff.
Team C earns 3x points from bloodlust stomps, they would also earn 3x bonus on held structures and also earn 3x score points from siege kills while under outnumbered buff.
The bonus amount will need to be tweaked obviously, and teams will have their bonus points gain change according to their current rank in the matchup. If teams are within 10k points of each other then the bonuses should be turned off. If Team A is 5k ahead of Team B but Team C is more than 10k behind Team A, then only Team C is earning the bonus. The two conditions of Bloodlust and Outnumbered buffs are random enough that the two lower teams will not completely keep up with the top team.
The bonus conditions should be helping the lower teams rather than only buffing up the top team. The top team should be rewarded as Arenanet explained in their reasoning for the bloodlust buff back when it was the orbs, but their coverage is already the reward for them which allows them to win matches easier, as well as in this scenario of points collecting they have the ability to deny/limit their enemies access to the bloodlust buff much more than the other two teams.
So what’s the point of keeping teams so close in points you may ask, might as well not have a points score. Well the reverse is also true since the start, what’s the point of scoring when the top coverage team is always running away with matchups. The point is to keep the matchup close enough so that all sides continue to compete through the week, but you still have to work at keep it close. Many times a server will just give up on bothering about ppt when they know who’s going to win the matchup from the moment the match starts.
END: The short story – 2nd 3rd place earn more points while under bloodlust and outnumbered buffs to help stay competitive. Instead of just outright rewarding the bonus to the top team, use the buffs to help the lower teams, the top team still gets rewarded with coverage and the option to deny their foes points.
WvW will never be comparable to sports competitions because of population imbalances, so change the points system to compensate not just the population.
Last night in EBG I saw Rage + pugs together, Bomb, Covn. SoS had Luvpie ranged pugs and TB/EA running together I think, mostly 9-11pm est, don’t remember seeing mma maybe that was earlier. I got video of some of the fighting, even got a chance to pull a moa off on Tyryon XD Neither side held back just a good ole fun brawl.
Later on, Bomb had moved to sosbl but weren’t there for long, after that mostly Pvp, WS, TLC, but mostly pvp ws harassing garrison by taking the north towers. Pvp looked like they were there for fights, Ws looked like they were just there to jamgank and get easy bags, plus poke at se garri a couple times, which lead to their deaths.
Wouldn’t mind matching up against T1 again, they can easily break our borderlands if they wanted to, but it’s fun fighting those blobs (when you have a force to match it at least lol).
Well SoS use to have a few regular pugmanders around, but since T2 turned more into the gvg state you rarely see those commanders tag up as they tend to just lead their own. Most gvg guild commanders tend to never tag up 99% of the time.
The SoS game changer for sure would be Luvpie though.
You and I both know merging of servers ain’t going to happen. The population caps for server and maps were apparently raised a couple times in the last couple years, and they shouldn’t have been. It has only benefited the T1 servers to get even more people.
Alliances? interesting idea but a lot of other problems and ideas to solve around it to get it to work, it’s also one step closer to EOTM which I doubt people really want. This isn’t a solution that they will work up in a couple months, it might not even make it out the door for another year if at all.
Transfers prices are ridiculous, why pay 1800 gems to move to any of the bottom half of servers when you can just as well pay that same price and move into the top 6, which a lot of guilds have already done this past year (while anet collects full payment for them which is all they cared for). Pve players don’t even need to move now because of megaservers and global guilds. Even WoW offered free transfers to low pop servers to help them out.
Either way the “fight” guilds will always move up the tiers anyways, doing any of the above is not going to convince any guilds to move to T4-8.
Scoring and bonuses while at a disadvantage still needs to be looked at as well.
The official CDI which was over a year ago and probably ignored at this point. The recent discussion is 14 days old.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Solution-to-fix-the-population-imbalance/first
That wasn’t an official CDI but got some dev interaction a few times in there, including bringing the ideas back to the team, whether or not anet does anything who knows. I’m hoping the scoring CDI which is coming soon will have some impact. Population imbalance will always exist no matter what solutions are implemented, but the scoring you can tweak to make matchups more balanced according to those imbalances.
Coming from FA player, I want to say good game to SoS, TC, JQ and Mag. I hope for Mag that they drop down and have equal fight with other servers.
Time for my little rant :
Altho I “kinda” enjoyed the outnumbered fights (god knows there were a lot of those against SoS, TC and JQ) vs pug commander or organized guilds, it always made me sigh when we were having a good fight and then suddenly a bigger group showed up and assjammed us. I know I know, loot bags. But still, it killed it a bit for me and proved once again that numbers rule it all.
Also, coverage wars.
Meh it happens to all sides. PvP was at our garrison last night looking for fights, your 20? vs like 10 Rx? with a side helping of WS and then TLC to add some jam. Main pug zerg was on EBG trying to keep FA voltron in check which eventually had to come back to homebl to help.
Fighting SoS was really fun as well; they’re some seriously good fighters.
What tz were you playing in? Everytime we face SoS, they are either in a blob or they have no players on a map at all. Like none.
From my perspective, we don’t have anywhere close to the numbers of TC and JQ; so often we were outnumbered 3:1, even more at times.
Bruh…
Depends on what time zone you walk in on, SoS doesn’t have a 4 map full timezone coverage like some people think we do. Had fun fighting the T1 blobs, we can compete with them we just didn’t have the numbers a lot of the time, also all the trains were so melee heavy we had to go back to more range to handle it, which was more of the T2 pug style anyways.
Anyways thank you to the rest of gold league for the fights.
Probably to try and make you log in every week to wvw and pick up your rewards, and not play the first week and then bail till end of the season.
They sent an in game mail every week as a reminder, not sure why people are not bothering to read it.
Thieves in the eyes of every other class will always be seen as broken(stealth off walls anyone?) or overpowered simply because Anet designed it entirely on stealth, and not as a tool to just enter or exit combat like most other games do. So much so that they’ve had to design stealth revealers to help with the problem.
If the class was designed with more focused on stealing and evading as their main combat abilities than stealth, I’m sure there wouldn’t be as much complaining. The life of a gw2 thief will always be under the call for nerfs for that mistake in design.
Honestly this is stil SoS fault. Since FA doesn’t have t2 coverage during the night, Sos just steamrolls over every door/npc. Cd and db just have sea. Which in SoS cause are pst doing golem rushes on undefended keeps. The 3rd server has to have pst to survive.
If you really want to put the blame that way, let’s take it a step further back. The sos golem rushes were returning the favor to Mags and FA for rolling over SoS EU like clockwork 3-6pm est after Pain logged off every single day for 2 months. With 3-5 golems taking 2-3 keeps at a time, there was nothing we could do about it either. Eventually you guys kitten off one of our commanders enough that he did it every day we got hit with golem rushes.
The only difference was, SoS has a defensive team that puts the keeps back together in a few hours, while FA goes to sleep crying into their pillows instead.
See guys, there’s never going to be an alliance with FA XD
Yeah a really long list of guilds that have died/split/re-merged when they moved in the past 6 months. They go to T1 and find out it’s about ppting and blobbing, the T1 guilds run 30-40, while T2 guilds run 10-25.
Having fought in the T1 matchups the past two weeks, I can definitely say T2 servers have a higher skill level than T1 guilds, no question about that, the only thing holding those guilds up there is their population. Just about every one of those guilds are running the super melee tank trains and barely any range bomb, compared to T2 you better dodge out of that red circle or you’re dead on the spot. We’ve even taken to running ranged zergs this week to combat those melee blobs lol, with good success I might add.
SoS and FA won’t be double teaming any servers on purpose, they hate each other too much to do any kind of an alliance, so much so that they repeatedly said they would prefer TC over SoS in T2 (don’t think that worked so well last week though).
One of the T3 servers will have to move up to T2, Mags does not have the population to keep it in T2 or maybe T3 and may even drop to T4. SoS also lost some Sea coverage, a few NA guilds, and the one EU organized guild before the tournament, EU is a dead zone for SoS. SoS’s only two organized OCX guilds are supposedly leaving after the tournament, they already announced it and one tried to move before the tournament to the T1 servers but couldn’t.
Those moves if everything goes through, should bring SoS down to a more normal playing field timezone wise as everyone else. While I know a lot of people like to blame SoS for T2 downfall because of ppting(but gvg guilds don’t care about ppt anyways right).
WvW hasn’t changed much, same stale matchups lasting for months, same class meta’s, people are getting bored and they’re either moving up tiers(T1 is their last hope) for a lot of new competition or quitting all together. It just so happens Mags housed quite a number of gvg guilds(some guilds moved from lower tiers to SoS just to face them), once they all decided to split it came crashing down, they also apparently had internal clashes with their ppt guilds who have moved off as well.
In any case it will take a few weeks for things to settle down for servers, populations, and guilds. I wouldn’t make any moves to T2 until it does, but I think the good ole T2 gvg days are done.
Sorry you lost your reward, but, it was pointed out what the new reward format would be in the feature pack blog, you even get mail in game telling you which takes less than 5 seconds to read. Every season there has been change to the rewards and achievement system, as they try to get it in the right spot for both the game and players.
Reward Structure
We want to continue to reward a world’s overall performance in the tournament, but we’d like to focus the incentives on each world’s struggle for dominance each week. To accomplish this, the arrangement of rewards distribution will be slightly different in this tournament. The majority of rewards will be dispersed at the end of each matchup based on your world’s performance. This means that even if your world doesn’t come out on top of your entire league, the efforts you put forth in each match will be rewarded!
How Do I Get Rewards?
To be eligible for rewards for any given matchup, you need only earn that match’s weekly World Contributor achievement. Then, all you have to do is talk with the Battle Historian NPC during the next week’s matchup to earn your rewards. It is important to note: You must claim your rewards in the week following the matchup in which they were earned. Rewards that are not claimed during the following week will be forfeited. Please refer to the table below to make sure you don’t miss out on your rewards!
He’s in a spot that’s normally easy to see when you zone in, and that was the point I think, but when you have a few people crowding around him it makes it hard to see, or even recognize for the new people since he’s not even properly named.
Every other merchant they’ve titled [Merchant], [Armorsmith], [Repairs], even Traps and Tricks [Outfitter], hell even the Instructor [Tutorials] and he’s a char.
Battle Historian needs his own title to make it more clear what he’s for. They’re on this ride to make things easier for new players, so there you go.
Here’s a suggestion based on how many people ask where the battle historian is, every, single, day…
Make the historian as big as the keep lords, add big red clown shoes, and the ringmaster top hat. Most importantly change their name to: Battle Historian [WvW Season Rewards]
In case you didn’t know, the historian is right in front of you when you spawn into citadel. They are also in the middle of the other starting spawn areas in the other borderland maps.
The only thing that frustrates me about EotM is that it gives (a lot) more WXP than actually WvW does, so we end up with PvE farmers with higher ranks than dedicated WvW players who don’t zerg often.
You don’t need any more than rank 1390 tho… And even then, you’ll have some masteries you’ll rarely use.
Only thing that bugs me about that is rank up chests have a chance to give you ascended equipment. So these guys are running loops on a map getting greatly rewarded for barely even fighting each other, meanwhile the real wvw players are busting their butts in the wvw maps and getting chicken scraps for rewards.
Sounds like the old champ trains running in queensdale or frost gorge, except champ bags never dropped ascended.
Just another one of those things that’s fallen through the cracks for wvw.
Don’t know why they haven’t adjusted some of the regular wvw rewards to eotm standards. Think a dev suggested a cdi or something a while back about asking what rewards should be moved over from eotm to wvw, but of course nothing happened after that.
Then again seeing as the rewards have turned eotm into a karma train 24/7 now, don’t exactly want that happening to wvw (it happens but not every day), so they’ll have to be careful of what rewards they bring over. Just don’t like the idea of someone running loops and getting better wvw rewards (more wxp, ranks/chests, badges, etc) than me who actually wvw’s 99% of the time.
Didn’t people complain about season achievements for the last two seasons?
Didn’t people complain about having too many achievement to do for the last two seasons?
Didn’t people complain about achievement hunters stuffing up the wvw queues?
Because of all the complaining Anet is experimenting with the achievements, to see what the affect will be on the season and players. Personally as mainly a wvw player, I don’t really care which way they handle the achievements, they were all doable for me. I don’t think a lot of wvw players care either, we’re there to wvw. Ton of other things to grind achievement points on.
Okay I’m making it up. Go on reddit, ask some Chinese players if the compass works fine in China. Then you can get that information.
Went searching for the hell of it… This is kinda funny.

Well, I can see what they intended with these changes now, to keep first time players playing for a longer period of time they wanted to speed up levels 1-15 (Should have mentioned this in the blog). To compensate for that they also moved skill unlocks to later levels, in order to spread it out and not overload the first time player with information, yet keep them engaged with leveling.
The problem is they moved some needed skills and even traits too high up in levels, there are still dead zones and now some of the early levels are tedious with skills missing until later. If this was all intended for just the first created character on an account and then you wouldn’t have to worry about it on alts, then that’s fine. If you intended this for every single newly created alts, then it’s a terrible system.
As for retention, I think Anet choose the wrong area to focus all their efforts into. WoW didn’t get 12 million accounts because they redid their leveling experience, which was worse than gw2, they got it by the word of mouth of their existing customers. Who by 1.5 years after release had an expansion with two new races, new zones, new dungeons, new raids, new pvp content. They provided a lot for both new and veteran players, which further reinforced the veterans to encourage their friends to play.
The gw2 starter experience could have used tweaks for sure, but not the complete overhaul it got. The end game of gw2 suffered because development time went into the new player experience and china release, and now not even veterans can recommend the game because of that, we all lose in the end. There’s a huge lake of mmo players waiting to be hooked into gw2, it’s too bad Anet decided to go fish in the nearby pond instead.
Heh, I was just coming over to post this.
Same where LOL.
I’m wondering how many anet employees gave the new leveling and trait system a full run through, you know actually spent time leveling a character to 80 and seeing how much more “fun” it was over the old system.
Glad I already leveled the characters I wanted to play at 80.
Agree with the topic, as I posted earlier about it in other thread, so pointless. Why did Anet spend the last two years revamping systems they didn’t exactly need to revamp? and in just the first two years after release. Streamline some things like the loot drops sure, but the revamping traits was not needed since it was made worse, and offering cookies on level ups now is not going to hide that fact.
Two years that could have been used to strengthen the end game or actual new content like a new race class or weapons. Even Wow did not rework their leveling zones and leveling systems until they did cataclysm six years later.
Now these feature blogs, separated to explain areas of changes, dragged out over a period of 3 weeks so they can hype up the features better, and yet even then they still can’t fully explain the changes. Like when is the personal story going to start now? level 1 or 10? Do the new loot changes affect level 80 after we’re done leveling?
Every other part of the game has been suffering because they went and focused on the part that needed the least amount of fixing. If you wanted to add a tutorial then add it around what you had, not completely revamp stuff around it. Leveling was not hard, in fact it was fun the first time around, it’s doing it multiple times that gets tedious and boring. You wanted to present a game of exploration, but at the same time now you’re just handing things to the player on a silver platter.
Week 3 announcements don’t look like they will blow my mind either.
Let’s keep two things in mind for these dragons.
1. Shatterer is a lower level boss than the other two dragons, I don’t think his difficulty should be as high as Teq. He definitely should be harder than standing on the rock to his right and afk attacking him.
2. If you are going to make something harder make sure you reward it properly, I personally won’t spend an hour prepping for a fight so I can get a couple greens and a rare. I can just as well spend that hour at 5 other world bosses and get like 8-10 rares.
I don’t agree with Teq being as hard as he is currently either, without it being in a closed and organized environment like normal raids would be. Too many variables to mess up the fight and it’s the reason why TTS has to spend an hour before trying to organize the fight, including hopping maps to make sure all their people in TS are in the instance.
Now the difference for me between these gw2 open world bosses as opposed to the closed raid bosses of a game like wow is, in wow if I or a guild mate gets something off the raids I or the guild would be happy, in gw2 if someone I don’t know gets rewarded for my contribution over and over again I’m not going to be happy nor care to continue doing that encounter in the long run. (yes I know loot tables are tied to everyone)
To this day I don’t think I’ve run into anyone with a Teq weapon.
P.S how many have figured out to use the shield on the charzookas to avoid the fear from Coj? Next to none as I saw on my last encounter with him.

Such a waste.
Crise, guilds have normal backpack pieces and I never see them used, and more than half the population seem to be using the various wings still.
In any case we already get new back pieces every event, how about I dunno more unique shoulder pieces or gloves? Update seems to be for the first time levelers maybe, I used crafting to level characters while trying not waste mats on extra items I can easily out level in a couple hours.
I also don’t plan on leveling for the twenty-third time, nevermind more than the six 80’s I already got, so account bound leveling items mean nothing to me. Fixing traits back down to level 11 than 30 would have done more for leveling problems.
Thought I would have had to come in here and write an essay on here on how wrong the op is, but I guess more than enough posts covered that.
I guess people forgot that even gw1 had expansions that added a lot to the game. A game like Everquest is going on 15 years and 21 expansions. People want new content not just personal story updates, and they’re willing to pay for it.
If they want to continue down this path, fine whatever, just don’t be surprised when the majority of customers who have played other games including gw1, expect more at this point, get more grumpy about it and maybe even eventually leave.
Sorry but I choose…
2: We list our number 1 topic and the one with the must number of votes wins.
I feel like Anet has missed the mark on things too many times now, and if they truly want to listen from us it’s only fair to let us choose what we want them to hear.
Would be nice if on the pulldown menu they told us all the crafts that character has and at what levels, instead of only showing the current two (or three).
Maybe then I wouldn’t need an excel sheet to figure who has what.
Now they just need to apply the megaserver tech to obsidian sanctum like eotm, and let guilds from any tier gvg each other.
