And yet another Mesmer nerf

For staff cd trait – conditional recharge is something new we’re trying out. The high cd reduction uptime that we were seeing right out of the gate wasn’t something we felt comfortable with. If it feels really weak after this we’ll come back to it and look at it again.

How about you wait more than a day before before making knee-jerk decisions? Would it really hurt to wait 1 week and see if other classes come up with counters?

Meanwhile, in nerf land.

Chaotic Dampening was fun. I’ll ignore it now

I really think they shouldn’t nerf this stuff so soon. Don’t get me wrong. I like quick balancing. But A-Net doesn’t balance. They destroy.

I think some overpowered things make the game more interesting because people have to adapt and find something to counter strong stuff. It spices up the meta so much.

If they keep on going like this they’ll just destroy the build diversity they just created.

sad

Agreed… Am I the only one that remembers Anet clearly stating “we don’t want to do whack-a-mole with balance.” This reeks of knee-jerk panic response. They could at least give it a week or two and see where the meta goes before exploding the nerf bomb.

I really hate all the QQ over mesmer right now. It’s been 2 days and its already time to play whack-a-mole with balance. Did any of the other classes think to open their trait panel and maybe try to CHANGE their build to address mesmer instead of demanding sweeping nerfs?

Soon enough, in the end, all we’ll have will be shatters again. And people will complain that all we have are shatters.

Again.
(pre Chrono, but who knows what would happen then, I wouldn’t bet against it happening the same lol)

Looking at chrono traits, it seems to me that it will be useful for shatters and phantasm builds, and shatter/phantasm hybrids… I mean come on, shatter phantasms twice, AND get a free clone when you shatter.

Uh, it was up to 64% cool down reductions and permanent protection. There was definitely a reason.

Can you or someone else explain how that works exactly? Because I’m a little unclear. So is it reducing the cooldown of Chaos Storm by 2% of 35 per second? Or is it 2% of the remaining seconds per second?

I knew this when they announced chronomancer will get alacrity.
The end result: Mesmer will need alacrity application to be just on-par with other profession cooldowns.

Which is complete BS since that means all that required effort to get the same result as other professions who just sit with their traits on.

We are turning into elementalists… Press 3x as many buttons to achieve the same result as warriors and rangers who get to spam 1 with all their passives. In fact just look at engie right now. They got some ridiculous passives now…

I was really excited for interrupt mesmer before the patch. I was even excited for condi mesmer. But it seems like people just want to knee-jerk reaction everything and play whack-a-mole with balance. No one ever wants to spend a few days adjusting and learning new builds or tactics. Indignation, incredulity, and willful ignorance permeates the gw2 community.

I’ve been playing this game since pre-launch. I’ve said some dumb things in map chat. I’ve even tried to troll people for funsies. I’ve never been attacked or whispered in the way OP describes. Either you said some truly bad things to spark a response… or you had a really bad luck situation. Either way, report, block, and move on. The in-game community is usually very nice. Sometimes you get autistic Barrens chat, but this is the internet… sorry that’s just a way of life, and it’s pretty much the same in every mmo.

[Suggestion] Upgrade Extractor Revamp

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

Right now the upgrade extractor costs 250 gems, or about $3.13 USD. Also, 250 gems costs about 44g 49s 14c as of writing this. These prices are ridiculous for a single use item.

Right now the only upgrades in the game that are worth this are Superior Sigil of Generosity, and Superior Sigil of Karka Slaying. For everything else, it would be cheaper to buy a new copy of the upgrade. In most cases of runes, it would be cheaper to buy a full set than to extract a single one with the extractor. Anet, this is nonsense.

Here are a few perfectly viable ideas that honestly shouldn’t cost Anet any significant time or resources to implement. Requesting any one of the following:

  1. Make the extractor have 25 charges, just like any other type of salvage kit. Keep the same price of 250 gems.
  2. Reduce the price of the single-use extractor to 50 gems.
  3. Make a Gold-Fed Upgrade Extractor with unlimited uses. Give it the robot voice of the other “Fed” salvage kits. Have it consume 5g per use (or some amount that seems fair, and not prohibitively expensive). Sell it for 1000 gems.

These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I find it absurd that the current version of the extractor has been sitting in the gem store for all this time. It is clearly a giant rip off and a waste of money. I’m sure just about anyone here has plenty of better ideas. Feel free to post them.

@Anet: Think about what this digital item is. It’s digital. It’s not like you have to manufacture physical goods and pay shipping costs. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by making this item more attractive.

Ones playing the victim card at the face of criticism (not harassment).

Which ones are those though ?

In this case? They’re people who usually defend HoT on the behalf of Anet by claiming Anet is being abused and harassed.

Ahh, I see. I thought you were referring to specific devs. I have not seen one playing the victim card and so was curious as to where you had seen it.

There weren’t any specific devs claiming harassment that I know of. This is spin from an article quoting devs vague tweets. Are they being harassed? I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t believe so, because in fact at least 1 of the quoted devs denied being harassed. It’s just political spin. The reddit thread and the article are linked in the OP.

I appreciate the comment, but this thread isn’t about whether or not the pre-purchase is worth it, justified, needs revision, or any of that. It’s about the emerging (false) narrative that this controversy is being pushed by an ignorant, angry, self-entitled, hate mob. The truth is simply that people are upset and have voiced their concerns, albeit loudly.

Tbf I didn’t say anything for the first few days but people went nuts, they were a crazed mob. They’ve calmed down a little now but saying there weren’t masses of ignorant, angry, self-entitled, hatefilled people would be willful blindness.

From what I saw, any angry hateful posts were by players attacking other players for simply complaining in the first place. I saw a lot of condescending parody threads, making critics out like they are cheapskates who want free stuff for nothing. It’s no wonder an angry reaction blew up when there are so many trolls running around dismissing honest discussion with insults and parody.

This isn’t the first time I’ve read about how hurtful internet vitriol can be to game developers. I take it, Savior, that you wouldn’t mind being pelted with epithets and refuse each day as you walk to work. Since you’re not a delicate flower like those silly ANet devs.

Criticism is expected and encouraged. Harassment is not. In my state, Harassing Course of Conduct is worth a few months in jail (oddly, Harassing Phone Calls carries years in jail … ). Being hurt by hateful calumny doesn’t make you a wilting flower, it makes you a human being who cares what others think of you and your work.

You make it sound as if internet comments are equal to actually being physically pelted with real feces in real life. I’m sorry, but they are not the same. People have a right to speak (at least they do in my country) and that right doesn’t magically stop when someone’s feelings get hurt. Granted these forums are owned and moderated by a private company, but that’s a whole side discussion. The fact remains that there’s a huge difference between digital text and actual physical violence.

I like how there’s no actual substance or argument in that and it appealed solely to emotion, acting one-sided as if Anet is this poor, delicate little flower who get’s easily hurt by criticism.

This is actually a disgusting attempt to shut down any criticism people are giving against HoT by claiming that Anet has been so terribly hurt. And who are the people acting this way? The people defending HoT. It really is pathetic. Show some respect to Anet, they’re not pathetic enough to be crushed by mean wittle words

You guys are very good at using the “innocent victim” guise.

Indeed I find the whole thing degrading to both Anet and the player base. Anet are not helpless victims. The are strong, self-sufficient adults like the rest of us. Likewise, the players are not rabid dogs lashing out with no cause. There are some very good points to be made. In fact Massively did a great article outlining most of it.

http://massivelyop.com/2015/06/18/why-guild-wars-2s-prepurchase-deal-has-the-internet-raging/

Playing the victim card is nothing more than an attempt to poison the community. It’s the same tactic politicians use when they call you racist for simply criticizing someone who happens to be a minority, even when your criticism has nothing to do with race. They use fear of association to make you stop complaining, and help silence the complaints, by associating those complaints with racism, sexism, or violence.

^^^^^^^^^

This was posted in response to a reddit thread in which a blog post took tweets from Anet devs out of context and attempted to paint the GW2 community as a violent hate mob. I just wanted to dispel some of the fog clouding this aspect of the recent controversy.

Obviously personal attacks on devs who have nothing to do with marketing is deplorable. However, there is no real evidence that this has occurred. So far, it’s just a lot of upset customers voicing their opinions on marketing. In my humble opinion, guilt-tripping people with a false narrative is just as deplorable as actual harassment.

Please folks, lets stick to the facts and evidence.

Edit:

https://twitter.com/kuraine/status/611593774397980672

To speak to a few points though: I don’t feel attacked. It’s an aura of negativity toward my work that otherwise puts a pall over the day.

Yes, the devs are depressed right now over this controversy. It’s not because of personal attacks though. It’s because their hard work is being washed aside while the community fixates on a marketing issue.

My problem is when people start to spin this narrative for the purpose of changing the subject and sweeping the legit concerns under the rug. I just want to stick up for the community’s right to complain rationally and politely. I don’t mean to disregard the humanity of the Anet team.

This, I believe, is nothing but misinformation regarding the Love and Lash post on Reddit. There hasn’t (to my knowledge) been any harassment toward individual artists or designers at Anet. In fact one dev has denied ever claiming that, and that their tweets were taken out of context.

I see you went back to add some more context and information to your post after the fact… Well now it sounds like you just want to paint everyone with a broad brush. Players have legitimate complaints, voice them in the only way they can, and they are childish for it? What would you suggest? They just shut up and buy something despite reservations, or else leave the game?

Never said that, I would request a better solution than fill every map and every discussion on forum with how much they hate Guild Wars and are probably just going to wildstar…..and FYI, probably going to leave this, I see where you are going with this, creating arguments for arguments sake, and tbh I really dont feel like playing who is the best keyboard warrior today

This blog post is nothing but carebear nonsense. Anet’s marketing fouled up, and the customers have legitimate complaints. This isn’t about the artists. Making it about them is insulting.

Quote from a reddit response:

This article patronizes the community. I felt as if someone grabbed my hand and tried to explain how a light switch works. You’re talking to grown men and women. Speak accordingly. This is probably one of the most degrading towards the community’s dignity articles I have ever seen posted here and frankly OP, you should be ashamed of projecting your false sense of reason and fanboying emotions on us.

Also quote from one of the devs featured in the tweets:

Kuraine 29 points 14 hours ago*

I can’t speak for my fellow developers, but I do want to clarify that my tweet was only partially related to the preorder reactions. I’ve never claimed to be harassed, and in fact the community has always been wonderful to me, though my quote could be taken that way when viewed in context of other tweets. I’ve also been resonating with the grief over the recent shooting & other personal unrelated-to-my-job things.

Notice how they deny ever claiming harassment. Guilt tripping your own customers and painting the community as a violent hate mob is just disgusting. These devs were never harassed, and someone is just leading you all down the garden path of lies.

@Drayos.8759

You are completely missing the point of this thread. This isn’t about whether or not we buy the game. This is about when we pay for it. It’s just foolish to pay for digitally distributed content before a release date is given. It’s digital. There’s literally no limit on supply, and no reason to expect it to evaporate at any point.

Pro’s of pre-ordering:

  • You got the transaction out of the way. Whoopdy doo.
  • You get access to the beta weekends. Some of us don’t care about beta, and can’t bend our schedules to meet with Anet’s beta weekends.

Con’s of pre-ordering:

  • You are SOL if you decide you want a refund after it launches, as most policies have a 30 day limit, which will be up by the time it launches.
  • You vote with your wallet for more pre-order business practices in the gaming industry. This includes but is not limited to cutting quests, missions, and other content from the game to use as pre-order incentives and retailer exclusives.
  • You allow companies to cash in early instead of forcing them to deliver a solid product before getting their money.

Why pre order anyway?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

1: I didn’t give them $100
2: I always pre-order games I want
3: I have no problem paying full price for a game I know I will enjoy, and that I know will be worth every penny.
4: I enjoyed the original beta weekends, and I want to be able to check out the HoT beta weekends.

1. That’s fine.

2. Why not just buy them when they come out instead?

3. You don’t know you will enjoy it, you just believe you will.

4. That’s fine, and it’s the only objective reason to pre-order this product.

The very notion of pre-ordering anything in an age of digital distribution is laughable.

Xenon.4537

I’m not pre-ordering HoT because I don’t support pre-order culture. It is damaging the games industry by teaching developers it’s okay to take our money before the game is even out, and possibly deliver a sub-par product. It also teaches developers it’s okay to cut content from the game and sell it separately as “pre-order bonus” material, some of which is exclusive to each retailer.

To be fair, Anet has offered some good deals in the ultimate package (imo) and the bonus for pre-ordering HoT is beta access. However, no matter how benevolent Anet is, pre-ordering from them shows other developers that this business practice is okay, and other developers are not always honest.

I’m tired of seeing exclusive day-1-dlc-pre-order-bonuses in my games. I’m tired of content being cut from games to be used as leverage for pre-orders. Not saying that’s what Anet is doing, but other developers do it all the time and it’s disgusting. I can’t support any of it.

I had a conversation with a guildie earlier. A lot of people seem to claim they can easily gather the materials to craft daily damask from scratch with no TP. I don’t see how this is possible without investing 6+ hours a day in the game. Remember damask isn’t the only thing required to craft ascended. I spent over 600g on a set of armor (no weapons even), and most of that I had to pay for in gems because I simply don’t have the time to slog through dungeon pugs and EotM train for 6+ hours a night.

I would love to be able to swap ascended stats. Legendaries have the most flashy skins and come with particle effects and footprints. If it’s really such an issue, they could place a cost on switching ascended stats (while leaving legendaries free).

Xenon.4537

I’m just not sure about these numbers… I’m just now hearing about this through forum backlash. Can anyone tell me where this announcement was made? If these numbers are accurate, I will be disappointed. I’ve always loved this game, and promoted it to my friends on the basis that it was easily accessible without grind and thousands of hours spent. This new development destroys that. It makes Anet look bad, and makes me look bad for dragging my friends into a game they thought they would like, only to have the rug torn out from under them (so to speak).

Hopefully some aspect of HoT justifies this, and I hope people keep an open mind at least until we get to test things for ourselves.

I think spirits being immobile is a good thing. Having them follow you lets them die to cleave, and makes melee a clusterfrack in pvp. However in their current form, leaving them immobile makes them frustrating to use in wvw and pve.

My suggestion is make them work like this:

  • 5-10 second cooldown
  • No activate ability, make it fully passive
  • 2-3 second cast time with obvious animation (interrupt counterplay)
  • Effective range 1200 radius
  • Make them a bit larger so easier to see (for enemy players to find and kill, for counterplay)

This version would allow the ranger to provide a powerful buff to allies in a large area. They would be able to reapply it as the party moves around in pve and wvw due to the low cooldown. The long cast time and animation would make it easier to interrupt in combat, which is fair counterplay imo. The increased size would also make fair counterplay by letting enemy players find it and get rid of it if they want. The only reason I’m suggesting these counterplay measures is because combining both passive and active abilities into passive and lowering the cooldown makes them extremely powerful. Also the fact that they are taking up skill slots is an important decision the ranger must make.

They also said that simply leveling to 80 will be enough to unlock all the skills and traits.

Then you need like 60 or so more skill points to unlock the elite spec.

So what is the problem?

You need 465 points to unlock all core specialisations and utilities. The elite specialisation will cost another lot of points. I guess around 100.

The exact transition from the old to the new system is still unclear. Will already unlocked traits grant 5 points? Will these traits be lost? We have to see.

Wait a minute… If there are 465 hero points in total, how are you going to get 100 more to unlock anything?

There are around 190 challenges in the open world and around 15 in WvW. HoT will introduce even more of them.

Sorry, I guess I was just unclear how hero points worked. I thought there were a finite amount of them and that the number was 400-something.

Losing Intent of Conditions

These are all very good and valid comments. I just want to nit pick something though. The assertion that all conditions now “compete” with each other because they are too similar is not completely accurate.

Having 10 bleeds and 10 burning is now really similar, true. Whats the point here? What’s the difference? Why not just have 20 bleed or 20 burn? Condition removal is a good reason. Let’s say you cleanse 1 condition with a skill (Smite Condition for example). With the 10/10 split, you still have 10 stacks of something.

Basically what I’m getting at is with a variety of conditions, cleansing them doesn’t wipe them all out entirely (unless it’s a powerful one like Consume Conditions). That’s something at least… I know this doesn’t change the homogenization issue, but I wanted to point out that bit of minutiae.

[Suggestion] Transfer Crafting Disciplines

I did crafting once per skill. I will never do more. So yeah, I would love account bound crafting. I could freely delete characters and reroll them if I so chose without worry. As it is now, I have one character that I somehow got to 80 but ended up hating, but has 400+ artificing and 400 cooking. I refuse to do those again so that character sits in DR, only to be used as a bank mule and crafting kitten.

This is one of the big reasons I want this. I have 2 alts I don’t like. I crafted weaponsmith and armorsmith to 400 on them, and that’s the main thing holding me back from deleting them.

The other major reason is just convenience. I could buy the crafting upgrade from the gem store to give my main crafter access to more disciplines at a time and do everything there.

Ah the leveling aspect slipped my mind. I wouldn’t want to take that away from people, so that makes account bound crafting iffy. However, transferring them I can’t think of any real problems there. If people want to have all crafts on one toon, they can already. They just have to level it all on that toon. If they want to do it more than once, they still can. It’s just with the option to transfer, you could grab any missing crafts and put them on a toon you want them on.

I suppose the only issue is the loss of sinks from people who are stuck in my position and muster up the funds to level them anyway. QQ

I don’t know how difficult this would be to implement, but I’m suggesting/requesting that we have the ability to transfer a crafting discipline from one character to another. For example I have 500 Tailor on my elementalist and 500 Leatherworker on my mesmer. 400 weaponsmith on my thief, 400 armorsmith on my warrior, 400 jewelcrafting on various toons… I would really like to just move them all onto one character so that I don’t need an excel spreadsheet to keep track of who can craft what.

I simply cannot afford to redo all my crafting on one character. My only options right now are to deal with the headache, buy gold for gems to redo crafting, or wait for a solution from Anet. I personally would pay gems for this service as long as the cost did not exceed the amount in gold to simply redo the crafting (probably like 1000g+).

Another possibility would be making crafting account bound, but again, I don’t know how difficult that would be to implement, if it even makes sense logically. Anyway, hope Anet sees this and hope I’m not the only one.
