With this expansion you will buy it once and have access to it’s content forever with no further payments. If you don’t buy it, you can still play the base game, but you won’t have access to new features such as the Revenant class.

I think masteries and specializations will be restricted as well, but only ones that have to do with Heart of Thorns (such as hang gliding). Don’t quote me on that, I’m not 100% sure.

How Do I Get Masteries?

The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/

The masteries clearly being said to be unlocked if you own heart of thorns. I would think the same goes for specilizations aswell.

I think they said there would be masteries for base-game content and old maps. Not sure why they would need to be locked behind the expansion if so. But maybe you’re right, idk.

Truth be said, this kind of feature was far more useful in GW1 than in GW2.

In the original Guild Wars, gear did little to define your stats. In GW2, in other hand, most of your stats and half your skills are defined by gear. So being able to change your trait points and skills around wouldn’t make as much difference as changing your equipment around.

Switching gear between 2 builds is trivial. Just mindlessly double-click a bunch of gear with usually only 1 option for me. Doing anything other than a very minor change to my traits is something I am often afraid to do. I literally take screenshots of working builds because I’m afraid I will forget something important when I try to switch back.

Actually swapping out my gear takes just as much time for me as swapping out traits. You have 16 slots of gear to swap out, and if you get too click-happy you mess up and equip the wrong thing. Not to mention you have to manually drag or use the hero panel to switch rings and trinkets because if you just double click it only swaps the first slot. It takes me like 30 seconds to switch gear, and even longer to switch traits, and it involves many clicks. A template system would reduce all of this down to 1 or 2 clicks, and I wouldn’t have to worry about having the wrong boots on.

How about we leave the mature content out a game that’s accessable to children

Guild Wars 2 is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.

And it was a Gods kitten ed bad idea to…

give into

…the Sylvari are Dragonspawn Theory because now you’re just going to see more of this crap in chat about how “Sylvari are less than people.”

There is evidence that Anet planned for this since before launch of the original game. They didn’t “give in” to anyone, the Sylvari were always meant to be related to Mordremoth.

If this is the friendliest community in gaming, then it really paints a bad picture.

This has nothing to do with the community. It’s about the story. News flash! Drama helps sell a good story and get people emotionally invested. I daresay threads like this are evidence that it’s working.

The name Guild Wars is based on lore not game-play.

It’s mind boggling people still haven’t figured that out after all these years..

I know the lore, but I have to say that is the most disappointing and weak excuse not to have GvG honestly. The title of something should reflect it’s core nature, not some obscure reference from it’s backstory. They call it Lord of the Rings, not Gimli’s Favorite Ale.

Honestly expecting people not to think about wars between guilds when faceblasting the title GUILD WARS into their face is mindboggling. When people read a game title they expect it to reflect the gameplay of that game, not some distant piece of lore from the previous game.

No one never said this game shouldn’t have GvG. All we said was that the title does not refer to GvG. Because everytime someone asks for GvG they say “The game is called Guild Wars, ergo it should have gvg”, every single time.

So I suppose its true the title doesn’t demand GvG, but it does suggest something. Either there should be warring guilds in the living world, or there should be GvG, or there should be some kind of guild conflict somewhere in the game. Right now all we have is guilds cooperating to fight dragons, and small teams of friends fighting in pvp matches, and maybe some guilds fighting each other in the Mist War (wvw) but it’s server-based, not guild-based.

I think it would go a long way toward making sense and pleasing audiences if they continue to develop more Stronghold maps and add maybe a guild leaderboard for it. Really what it comes down to is creating a competitive space for guilds who like that sort of thing. Also they could introduce more conflict between lore guilds in the living world. I’m talking about Destiny’s Edge fighting some other guild, or maybe the Vigil fighting the Priory. Just an example.

Druid shapeshifting

The point is, that people want it, and they expect it.

What else would you need. ANet called the new specialization “Druid”, so people expect what they know about druids.

Let us still choose our pets, but instead of commanding the pet, let us transform into it and hunt as a pack.

Same skills as the pet. Sounds cool to me.

This is the first time I’ve actually heard a coherent idea about the mechanics that didn’t just sound like Elementalist with animal skin. I would like to expand on this idea.

To me it actually sounds now a lot like Necro Death Shroud. You would only get F1, no other F skills. You choose your pet and when you press F1 you transform into that pet while gaining it’s skills. It’s like Death Shroud only your skills are determined by which pet you have. It would be pretty neat if on top of this you could somehow trick your enemy into not knowing which animal is the “real” druid and which is the pet. Would make PvP interesting.

Edit: What sets this apart from Death Shroud is that you keep your same health bar and your skills are not set in stone. They change depending on the pet. Also I could imagine being allowed to swap in and out faster like an Engie kit to create interesting skill combos.

Druid shapeshifting

Xenon.4537

I’d love to see Shapeshifter as next Ranger spec – he could get shifting under F1-F4 with 4 different animals (or 3), each one changing all skills. And maybe no weapon swap.

I am very interested in Druid as my nr1 option in all games – from DnD to Diablo II.
I know that GW1 druids were a bit different and weather effects would duplicate some Elementalist skills – but I really hope for some weather based actions with wind or lightnings.
Beacause it is what nature is about, what druid should be about. I don’t want to be a florist like sylvari.

This is exactly the type of thinking I was getting at in my post. You haven’t thought about the mechanics clearly in the context of GW2. You describe F1-F4 skills to swap forms? Sounds an awful lot like Elementalist to me. Could you please explain how it would be different other than the superficial cosmetic effect of changing into an animal?

I completely understand that everyone thinks of shapeshifting when they hear “druid.” I totally get it, really. You have an emotional experience and your imagination is filled with images of wolves and bears and stuff. Indeed I agree, that would be totally awesome! Problem is how does this mechanically make sense? What in Melandru’s trousers makes it different from Elementalist or Engineer kits?

Druid shapeshifting

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Xenon.4537

The reason everyone expects shapeshifting when they hear “Druid” is because of the “Kleenex Effect” otherwise known as a brand name takeover. It happens when the brand name of a product becomes the colloquial term for a particular type of product. Kleenex is a brand name of tissue paper. But people often just call it Kleenex even if it’s some other brand of tissue paper.

Similarly when there’s a shapeshifter class, people call it the Druid because the D&D and WoW druid pretty much defined the colloquial term. Now you cant even say “druid” without people immediately jumping to shapeshifting. It would be cool to have a shapeshifting druid, but the GW2 druid is more like the pre-D&D/WoW/D2 druid. It’s more like the legends of mystical Celtic clerics.

I have a more pragmatic concern for this topic that will probably throw a major wrench in the works… How would a shapeshifter class fit into the design of GW2 mechanically? We already have engineers who can swap kits around to change their 1-5 skills and dramatically alter their combat behavior on the fly. We already have elementalists swapping attunements which change their 1-5 skills to provide a wide array of different rolls and abilities. How does a shapeshifter distinguish themselves from this? Forget for a moment your superficial wishes of becoming a furry creature. Think about this mechanically. What is the point of it in the context of GW2?

Rangers are actually not that bad. It’s the demographic that plays rangers that’s bad. Generally the type of player that is attracted to pet classes is casual and carefree. They don’t like to min-max, they want to play at their own pace, they want their pet to tank for them so they can lazily shoot from afar while playing Candy Crush on their smart phone. Its the same reason Hunters got the nick name “Huntard” in WoW. The class itself promotes some bad habits and draws bad players to it. But again, some rare few rangers who actually apply themselves are pretty good. There’s just a negative stigma in the community due to the bad apples.

I really hate the idea of time gating in any game, but especially an MMO that doesn’t have a subscription. Time gating in sub-based MMOs makes sense because it artificially inflates the amount of time you have to subscribe to the game (thus increasing sales, which is an abhorrent practice, but that’s a whole other story). Time gating a non-sub game is BS. The only possible purpose is to artificially increase the value of that item on the market.

I forget where I heard it, but I recall hearing somewhere in the lore that another dragon could take his place. My guess would be that Tequatl or somebody else will eventually replace Zhaitan. Perhaps the purpose of Glint’s offspring is to replace an elder dragon with one that’s sentient and more benevolent.

That is the current speculation as to the purpose of the egg, but the problem I see with that is it would make no sense for Mordrem minions to continue attacking the Silverwastes and the Pact in the new maps if there is supposed to be a benevolent new dragon controlling them. Logically if a benevolent/ally dragon is replacing Zhaitan or Mordremoth, then their minions should stop being hostile to the players. If that were to happen, half the zones in the game would need to be revamped and filled with new enemies to fill the content void. That’s an awful lot of unnecessary work for Anet.

  • add torch

  • replace corruptions with weapon spells
  • replace death shroud with F1-F4 life force powers which consume life force for increased effects. Life force is no longer an extra health bar, but a resource like Mana.

Mesmer → Chronomancer

  • replace clones with temporal manipulations which lower ally cooldowns and/or increase enemy cooldowns
  • replace phantasms with void zones which slow and debilitate enemies while buffing allies
  • replace shatters with temporal mechanics which allow the chronomancer to build up speed over time and copy spells

Elementalist → Arcanist

  • replace attunements with 4 new arcane spells
  • allow weapon swapping to compensate for loss of attunements
  • add main hand sword
  • replace conjures with new glyphs and arcane spells

Xenon.4537

Personally I hope we never kill another dragon. I want them to remain an omnipresent threat we have to fight against, and hold our own against, but also something so big and powerful that we can’t really kill them. So we can either surrender or fight it to a stalemate.

I also think killing Zhaitan should have had a lot more repercussions than we’ve seen. It almost feels like they’re just another enemy to kill with no effects whatsoever. I get there is a limit to the writers resources, but I really think the after effects of killing Zhaitan should be woven more into the story instead of just being forgotten. And I fear if we were to kill Mordy, we’d just move on to the next one without dealing with the fallout from killing him either. It just makes for a more empty feeling to the adventure and takes away from the whole living world concept.

This is really what I’m getting at. It’s nothing to do with writers but with game design and production. It takes them months to build assets for characters, environments, etc. That is modeling them, texturing, animation, coding dynamic events and interactions, etc. Months and months go into it and expecting them to remove it all and redesign a game state where Mordremoth is dead and all his mordrem are gone is impractical. That’s why we never saw the Risen go away. Mechanically it is just unfeasible, and that’s perfectly fine.

So my theory is that in order to explain this issue from a story standpoint, it makes the most sense to say “Okay, elder dragons can’t die, they keep coming back, and their minions simply go through cycles of increased or decreased activity.” It would allow Anet to get away with leaving Risen and Mordrem as they are, without having to overhaul all of those dynamic events and maps.

This leads me to believe Zhaitan wasn’t killed and we will find out later, probably in another expansion years from now. I predict a living world season where we actually explore the heart of Arah as a new map or dungeon in search of Zhaitan’s body. We find out he’s not there and he retreated to some place to regain strength. Guild Wars 2: The Shadow of Death – August 2019.

Maybe turn his physical body into a dungeon

I think they may need to save that theme for Kralkatorik. They probably don’t want every elder dragon fight to be the same, and Kralky is the largest (that we know of) clocking in at the size of a mountain range. If we go inside of any elder dragon to kill it, I would say Kralkatorik is the one.

The Mordremoth Fight

Xenon.4537

Anyone got any speculation on how exactly we will encounter and fight Mordremoth? He seems to be pretty big and underground. So either we will have to dig down to find him, or he will have to pop up to the surface.

Then the question is do we fight him on airships like we did Zhaitan? Will it be a dungeon, or a repeating open world event? Will it happen in the actual expansion release or will we have to work towards it in Season 3, 4, etc of Living World?

Then we have to wonder what happens when he is dead? I suppose all of his minions will continue fighting just like the Risen do even though Zhaitan is dead (supposedly). I can’t imagine Anet going through all the effort to make a whole expansion with incredibly complex systems of dynamic events and bosses all Mordrem only for them to be suddenly defeated and removed when the elder dragon is killed.

So this begs the question, will we really feel like it made a difference when Mordremoth is defeated? If all his minions keep doing what they do on the maps, how will the world feel any different? If he is just a repeating world boss, how can he ever actually be defeated?

Food for thought.

So called challenge

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

I don’t think adventures are the answer to “challenging” content. At least I really hope Anet doesn’t think it is.

When I say I want challenging group content, I’m talking about Triple Trouble Wurm. That means big, raid-style world bosses. Or instanced, whatever works. My guild fights Wurm several times per week. We fill up the map with 100+ guildies, we all get on teamspeak, we chat and coordinate. We have a strong community of great people with real friendships because of the bonding effect of such content. We’ve built a real family around Triple Trouble Wurm. I can’t say the same for things like jumping puzzles or easy-mode bosses like Vinewrath…

When a world boss is easy, there’s no reason to form a guild around it or get on teamspeak. There’s barely even a reason to turn map chat on. Everyone just herds together, silently auto attacking. And as soon as it’s dead, everyone leaves. It’s so impersonal. The irony of GW2 is that its so easy to band together and play with strangers in large-scale groups, that no one has a reason to even talk to each other, and forming long-term friendships is a waste of time.

Adventures, to me, sound like small personal challenges. Leaderboards only serve as personal bragging rights. I honestly could care less about that. I want to feel like I’m part of a family, not some lone wolf.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Xenon.4537

I don’t understand why people keep getting hung up on this topic. When you actually sit down and think about it, it makes perfect sense. The specialization is a choice you make. Do you want to give up one set of skills to unlock a different set, thus changing your class? It’s not a straight upgrade. It’s a choice between one base class and one “specialized” class. And obviously in the future they will add more specializations.

Anet can’t just add a multitude of specializations in one go. There will be 9 classes in HoT, each one with a multitude of skills and traits. On top of that each one will have a specialization which introduces further skills and traits into the mix. The number 1 problem with GW1 skill system was how bloated it got and how hard it was to balance. Anet doesn’t want to repeat that in GW2. They will slowly add a few skills and traits at a time to make sure things don’t get too crazy.

With no collision detection, think about how easy it would be for a team of 5 thieves with 100% crit from stealth playing a valk’s build to say “and backstab the lord in 3…2…1……GOOD GAME!!!”

That is assuming the thieves can make it all the way to the heart of the base undetected, somehow bypassing gates or other obstacles, make it to the guild lord, and have enough damage to 1-shot him.

By the way afaik this is an spvp game mode, not wvw. Crit damage will be more tightly controlled and there wont be things like food to make thieves more OP. There may even be other mechanics to consider which would make a 5-thief rush impractical or impossible. What if the guild lord is invulnerable unless some other objective on the other side of the map is held, thus forcing attackers to split up? There are infinite possibilities. We will just have to wait and see what Anet comes up with.

OP gives no evidence or argumentation, only baseless assertions. Could you please explain in detail how you think stealth will impact stronghold?

he solo roams WvW and gets picked apart by thief roaming parties, so “stealth OP”

Hoho so funny. I play a Thief along with Ele and Ranger. And what I can get away with on my Thief because of stealth is amazing.

Xenon I will attempt to explain how I think stealth will impact Stronghold. I’m not a lawyer so don’t expect a litigators ability at argumentation.

My main concern is that I believe it will cause a lower participation than would otherwise be the case. Moreso than any other mechanic or feature of GW2. The evidence for this is the countless criticism of stealth that has occurred since launch.

People like Bruno will chime in with noob, l2p, go back to PvE, etc. But guess what, that just drives people away from the game mode. Sensible people, even ones who like playing stealth characters, have acknowledged that stealth in GW2 is poorly implemented.

I stated that the reason stealth hasn’t been complained about in sPvP is because it is useless for capturing a point. You can’t cap a point while in stealth. Isn’t that correct? So that it is not used to an advantage in sPvP. Now for a moment imagine that you could cap a point while in stealth. How broken would that be?

In the end if stealth gives too big of an advantage then it will hurt the game mode. If it annoys too many people it will hurt the game mode.

Well lets just ignore responses like Bruno for now because I really would like to have a discussion about this. So you think the simple existence of stealth in the game mode will drive people away, and that Stronghold will have less people playing it as a result?

I really don’t think this will happen. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Stronghold is based on the old GvG right? Let me break down the gameplay structure.

  • One team defends a base while the other attacks.
  • The base contains NPCs to help defend it.
  • The base comes with some defensive mechanic, like a gate which must be bypassed first.
  • Victory is achieved by the attackers if they manage to penetrate the defenses and kill the “guild lord” NPC.
  • Victory is achieved by the defenders if they manage to hold off the attackers for a certain length of time, or some other metric.
  • Extra mechanics include things like a flag stand which gives a buff to the team that can hold it during the match.

So when I try to envision this type of gameplay in GW2, with special attention to how stealth will impact it, my first instinct is to ask how will the attackers bypass defensive positions? Thieves cannot stealth past gates in WvW, so why should they be able to in Stronghold? Now I know they haven’t confirmed specific details like this on Stronghold yet, but believe it or not, Anet does test these things before releasing and I’m sure they are well aware of the Shadow Refuge skill and have tested to see how it affects this gametype. Like someone already said, they can add turrets or NPCs which detect stealth in addition to things like gates.

Even if you ignore all of that, you can at least put yourself in the defender’s shoes for a moment and think. If I were a defender and I just saw the enemy team stealth before entering the base, I would assume their goal is to get to the guild lord and kill him as quickly as possible. That is their condition for victory, otherwise they are just wasting stealth. So my most prudent course of action is to run to my guild lord to defend him. They can’t remain in stealth during combat. If it’s the entire attacker team vs my whole team PLUS all of the defender NPCs, it won’t be very hard to counter the assault.

People who say GW2 is too easy or casual don’t know what they’re talking about. A lot of the content is crazy stupid hard.

Everyone has a different definition of what is hard. For the average player, most stuff in GW2 is relatively easy while still being engaging. There are a few things that are harder than normal, but I’m talking about Triple Trouble and Arah and things like that which are meant to be a challenge for the people who like that. That type of content doesn’t represent the whole of the game.

HoT will follow the same formula as the rest of the game in regards to difficulty. By that I mean there will be plenty of content for Average Joe to enjoy, and there will be a few hardcore bosses or whatever for the hardcore players at the end of the bell curve. No one is forcing Average Joe to fight a hardcore boss. These things are entirely optional.

I sure hope they add Tengu, but part of me doubts they will be added in HoT. It just doesn’t feel right. At the very least they should do season 3 before adding HoT and use the LS to ease the Tengu into the story with Mordremoth.

And as far as adding Kodan, people love to forget that they are literally directly related to Norn. The Norn are descended from them. Stylistically they are Norn with bear heads and fur. IMHO that is just too similar to justify a new playable race. Playable races should be clearly distinct and have their own unique place in the world.

Largos are even less likely IMO. Their “wings” are too big and would present really bad clipping issues with a lot of back pieces. Those wings would need to be redesigned to fold up and be tucked away most of the time.

Worst thing that could be announced at PAX?

The worst thing they could do…

  • Announce a partnership with Activision.
  • New premium membership $15 a month that comes with 3 transmutation charges, 50 gems, and a single black lion ticket scrap.
  • Announce a 4 month break from living world while they hold another “tournament”
  • Plans to add mounts exclusively to the gem store (only 1200 gems each) and remove waypoints from the game.
  • Confirm HoT is the next GW2 paperback novel.
  • Deny any plans for an expansion pack.

What Will Community Do If HoT Is Not Xpac

Xenon.4537

I think whether HoT is an expansion or not is irrelevant. Anet has planted the seeds of hope by hyping up the PAX announcement and trademarking the new logo. If they don’t announce an expansion on the 24th (HoT or some other expansion) they will have a lot of community backlash on their hands. And as others have pointed out, what else could the other 200+ employees have been working on since launch? Whether HoT is an expansion or not, Anet will announce plans for an expansion, or risk backlash.

How about Crowd Funding to update GW1?

I’m not an expert on game engines, but my understanding is that the engine is basically the heart of the game. There’s no ability to jump because the engine doesn’t allow it and thus none of the maps have platforms that you could jump to. GW2’s engine is very different from GW’s engine. I don’t think such a move would be possible, even in theory.

No actually converting over the engine is like starting a new game. The thing is, it shouldn’t be as expensive since Anet already has the arts and models from GW2’s development.

What would need to be done if for the programmers to make a new set of codes for the GW1’s gameplay mechanics, and for the artist to design the GW1 zones over again in GW2 engine. Shoot crowd funding can make up for that cost.

Fantasy land

Oh yeah man, let me just whip up some code real quick. We can just copy/paste all the art assets. This will be so fast and easy, I don’t know why they never thought of it!

Back to reality

No. To bring GW1 game mechanics up to GW2 standards, they might as well remake the game from scratch. My question is why don’t you just play GW1 if you want GW1? Are you looking for GW1 gameplay with GW2 graphics? They can’t just copy/paste models from GW1 into GW2 and magically they turn into higher poly, higher texture res models. Sorry it just doesn’t work that way. The engine isn’t a magical machine that adds polys and detail. Artists do that beforehand with lots of blood, sweat, and tears.

Stay classy, ArenaNet

It does feel weird to have dates and out-of-game things posted on an in-game cinematic…

But I’ll wait till Mt. Dew and Doritos shows up in game before I freak out.

My character would kill Caithe for:

  1. Deceiving me in a moment of crisis.
  2. Leading me on a wild goose chase all over Tyria.
  3. Helping a psychopath kill innocent people and creatures.
  4. Abandoning me in a fight against a deadly dragon champion.
  5. Not trusting me.

My character is ruthless an cold to most.

Praise relayed.

I heard that the fractal trailer was a mix of animated 2D paintings with 3D characters rendered with Maya cameras. Did they do the same thing here? Regardless, all of the cinematics from season 1 to now have been gorgeous. Your animators/painters are phenomenal!

I’m afraid OP has little idea how games are built and work… There’s literally no way they could merge the two together. This isn’t DBZ, they can’t fuze together and go super saiyan, sorry…

The best you can hope for is to have the GW1 game modes rebuilt from scratch inside GW2. It’s totally possible for them to recreate alliance battles, gvg, etc in GW2. Just be careful with your expectations. Even if they brought those into GW2, they would still feel fundamentally different because GW2 combat and reward structures are completely different.

If you are hoping for them to bring back the secondary profession system and the fully customizable skill bars with access to hundreds of skills with hero/henchmen… don’t get your hopes up. It will never happen. That would mean a fundamental reconstruction of the entire combat system of the game. You probably think it would be like switching out the wheels on a car. It would be more like changing a car into a space station. Sure if you throw 10 years and millions of dollars at it, you might make it happen. But GW2 doesn’t need such a radical make-over.

Edit: Lol the “ball” and “z” in Dragon Ball… Z was censured.

Dungeon Vanquish

Rather than skip trash mobs and speed run to the end, the goal of this activity is to kill every single enemy in the dungeon. For this unique path, all routes through a dungeon are opened, and the main bosses are not spawned. Instead its all trash mobs and mini-bosses (like the troll in AC). This type of vanquish is designed specifically for 5 players, and can be done for a daily reward at the end, much like any other dungeon path. The difference is that there is a timer for gold, silver, and bronze reward levels. Gold may be 30 minutes, silver 60 minutes, bronze after that. You can keep going back and trying to get Gold as much as you like (but only receive Gold reward level once per day). There’s also a title for vanquishing all dungeon paths on Gold.

This is essentially a new dungeon path added to the existing options for each dungeon. Rewards are structured the same as normal paths, but you get better rewards if you beat the timer.

Hard Mode Dungeons

This is a setting chosen before entering the dungeon. What it does is adjust the level scaling so that there’s a bigger divide between player and enemy; making enemies stronger and more difficult to beat. It also gives enemies 1 or 2 new abilities each, including bosses. There could also be an environmental effect unique to each path, similar to fractal instabilities.

The aim of hard mode dungeon balancing is to make it feel like it did back when we were running AC on level 35 toons with blue/green gear, while adding new flavor to the mix. Rewards would be similar to that of fractals, although instead of fractals skins/tonic there would be other skins to hunt for, unique to each dungeon. There would be a title for clearing all paths on hard mode too.

Anyone complaining about loot today must not have been around at launch… Nowadays you can’t sneeze without champ bags flying out your butt. Back then champ bags didn’t even exist… You would be lucky to fill half your inventory on a dungeon run. Now it’s like I need to take a TP break before we even reach the final boss. Don’t even get me started on how scarce loot was in WvW.

Edit: To be fair, the extra loot from bags and MF drops really only contribute to inflation in the end. 99% of it is vendor trash.

Zone vanquishing.

While I agree that something like this would be nice, it could never be in GW2.

Zones are not instanced and would create issues if players could. Enemies are spread out and absolutely no where as difficult as they are in GW1.

Sit down and think some, really. You seem to be limiting yourself far too much.

ArenaNet got solo-instance technology that they use in personal story and living story instances. How hard can it be to make a solo-instanced map, with a little bit harder mobs in?

I had 3 (in my opinion very good) ideas for vanquishing a long time ago…

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Vanquishing/first#post4146407

I really hold fast to my dungeon vanquish idea. I think it’s easily the best one and fits GW2’s game mechanics like a glove.

General Consensus on Condition Damage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xenon.4537

I’ve not really followed much on GW2 outside of in-game stuff – are Anet usually good at communicating with the community? do they usually fix this sort of thing quickly/well/at all?

Anet is terrible at communication. Their policy is to stay super tight-lipped about everything until it gets released. In the past when they tried to be more open, they failed at it by making promises they couldn’t keep, and they got backlash for it. As for fixing things quickly, nope. They are pretty hit or miss on this. If it’s a game-breaking bug they tend to be pretty quick. If it’s a non-game-breaking inconvenience like the condition cap, well… the game has been out for over two years and nothing so far.

I don’t really agree with your mining opinion, I really love not having to compete for nodes. So many times in WoW I would come to a node and get jumped by some mobs and have to kill them. Meanwhile some druid flies down and snatches the node while I have aggro. LAME…

But I do agree with you on the social aspects. GW2 has automated almost all social interaction. This is great in some ways. It makes group content a million times easier to jump in and out of. But it has had consequences for individual communication skills. People don’t have to talk to each other as much, so they don’t. On top of that I think a lot of people are actually on Teamspeak or Ventrilo talking to their friends rather than using /say or /map. This makes the game overall feel like there is less socializing between strangers.

Honestly technology isn’t and shouldn’t regress to accommodate older social norms. It’s up to us to develop new social norms in light of new technologies. Basically what I’m saying is that yes it sucks that there seems to be less in-game socializing due to the streamlining, but we just need to adapt because that’s what humans do.

Personally I think VOIP is where it’s at. Everyone nowadays hops on their guild’s Teamspeak to chat and stays silent in-game unless otherwise provoked. Even console peasants (xbox) form private chat parties instead of talking to the strangers in matchmaking. The new social structure appears to be a formation of “family bubbles.” Players congregate with their “family” which is either their close-knit friends or guild, and they talk in private away from the common rabble. Then they engage in gameplay from that “safe” environment; only interacting with the general public when absolutely necessary.

So my advice for you Garrett is to find a friendly guild or group of friends to talk to if you need social interaction. Otherwise you will have to just be brave and try to break the ice in /say. It’s not that GW2 prevents you from being social, it just streamlines gameplay by eliminating the need to stop and form a group. It’s generally easier and faster if everyone can just run up to a boss and fight it instead of stopping to click /join party.

What's your theory of what Rytlock is doing?

in Living World

Posted by: Xenon.4537

Xenon.4537

I can’t imagine them setting up Rytlock to “cleanse Ascalon” as it were. There are so many ghost spawns and dynamic events in the Ascalon maps. The technical hurdles to remove them and fill the void with something else are enormous. Not saying it can’t be done, it’s just a lot of work. It would have to take place over the course of half of season 3 or more. And then people would probably complain that they are just reusing old maps instead of giving us another new one.

Besides I think the ghosts have become a distinct theme of that region. They help define it; like how Karka define Southsun, or how risen define Orr. Each player race has a faction of enemy npcs fighting them in their homeland. Centaurs and bandits for humans, Inquest for Asura, Nightmare Court for Sylvari, etc. Ghosts and Flame Legion are the Charr nemesis.
