my guild take’s any one when we need another player or two for runs if other members are not interested or not online even if there lower in both level and difficulty.
just because people do the hole ""level 80 only"" isnt the falt of the game, its the falt of the player.
people will alwas do this
Except, as you level up, not being level 80 will make it to where you die all the time. More mobs that hit harder = more headache if you don’t meet the min requirement.
Can’t wait until ANET adds the next content and you’ll see “GLFM Ascended ring and back piece only” because, without it, the same thing will happen.
I agree, the design is fantastic, the levels are beautifuly designed, boss mechanics are done well…..
To bad it’s tied to the treadmill
From what I’ve experienced, and I’m only level 6 mind you, is that nothing actually gets harder. It simply takes longer as you level. Eventually, you’ll hit the agony wall which I hope is more than a constant dot or resistance to damage. But its probably both which means it just going to take longer to do these runs when you hit that wall.
Oh, not only is it tied to treadmill, but its also tied to RNG. To get the back piece you need essence, which is a random drop from the mist. To add insult to injury its also account bound.
Is it bad that I’m already board of it?
What you don’t understand is that ANET plans on using agony in future content updates to “keep the progression going”
What about my post makes you think that I don’t understand that? Honest question. Think about it. The “Agony mechanic” equals, the further you progress in difficulty, the higher chance a debuff has of being triggered. I said “if you don’t like progression, don’t do it”. Currently, if you don’t like the Agony debuff, you simply don’t go that high a level. What I foresee is ArenaNet adding more dungeons like Fractals, where they get harder (and insert Agony) the more you beat it. It’s a great idea. This way all those that like to stay still and not “progress” their stats can keep playing the easier version AND those that like to grind out them stats get to use them for more challenges. This is their attempt to please both groups of players. Again, a great idea. And by “keep progression going” I see them simply making it that the more stuff the add the sooner such mechanics kick in. Eventually you’ll just have level one difficulty if you want to avoid it. Maybe they’ll force it, but that just means you get to skip that dungeon. Would you be missing out on some fun? Possible, but you’re choosing to stay stagnant so it most likely won’t be your kind of fun.
If ANET doesn’t require you to have ascended gear and upgrades to even have a shot at completing the new content, then its not progression. If ANET does that, then its content gating. ANET was supposedly against content gating.
Funny how the mod moved it here…
First, people have always set “rules” to join groups. There is nothing any developer can do to stop this. As pointed out, it’s my time, I get to choose how I use it and who I use it with.
Second, this entire update was centered around people wanting to grind and feel some sort of progress outside of their in-game wallets getting fatter. Don’t like to grind things out? Too casual a player to bother with planning and dedicating time to your character’s stats? Don’t run the dungeon for the higher levels and said grind/gear.
Third, Agony isn’t the only thing that makes higher levels of Fractals “harder”. Aside from that, it’s resistance currently cannot hit 100%. So it’s still going to happen.
Fourth (and the kicker), why don’t the “casuals” actually group up? Why bother complaining about the limits on other groups? If the “casual” playerbase is large enough to justify all this hate for the “progression”, then it should be large enough so sustain it’s own groups. Actually be community driven, come together, form Guilds and Alliances. But, no, you’d rather complain that some random person doesn’t like your pixels.
What you don’t understand is that ANET plans on using agony in future content updates to “keep the progression going”
Fractals are awesome and ascended gear is actually not a big deal, sorry
The event bugs however……..Hi Citizen!
Execpt ANET said they will require Agony for future content.
Welcome to RNG 15 char
The drop rates are better when you’re not playing at the first tier (1-10)
so this will give players ever more reason to keep themselves segregated.
Its difficult to see this as a good thing.
It won’t be that bad. Pugs are going to hit a brick wall with group coordination required, and be unable to progress past a certain point (21+). At this point, a lot of people will probably be more willing to do lower difficulty runs. The reward difference between 1-10 and 11-20 isn’t that big, although you can get ascended rings from your daily in 11-20. There is more loot and tokens in 11-20, but it requires a lot more effort than 1-10.
Dailies? You mean the bonus jade sea dungeon?
I played TSW for a few months after it’s launch and sure it has some interesting features but it was incedibly buggy and felt for me like it lacked any sense of community. As has been mentioned it does have gear grinds but it was the fact that the endgame demand to conform to cookie cutter builds was very high – that’s the thing that turned me off the game.
I’m keeping an eye on Elder Scrolls but I still live in hope someone will make a truly different MMO I do get the feeling sadly that if the mould is ever to be broken it will end up being Blizzard themselves that do it… they’re being very cagey about Titan.
World of Darkness (not yet relased), Darkfall Online: Unholy Wars (if you don’t like PvP stay away), EvE, Salem, The Population (not out yet), Wurm, Haven and Hearth, Mortal Online. There you go, all different MMOs with different feel and nothing like the WoW. Have Fun
Sandbox MMOs. But I take it you don’t like forced PvP either? If thats the case you can eliminate World of Darkness from your list of “potential” candidates.
Edit: It doesn’t take 3 months to decide that “you know what, we want stronger gear.” The ascended system obviously was intended for awhile, but the higher stat gear could have been thrown together in a couple days.
If the items were tradeable, then you would still have a guaranteed way out if the RNG hated you: When you had enough coin to buy the item.
So you would have progress on every run. The RNG would just allow to suddenly jump ahead. But with the essence being bind on pickup, you don’t make any noticable progress. You don’t know if you will get what you want this run, or 1,000 runs from now. Especially once you hit the highest FOTM level your gear allows you to.
Worst design decision ever.
That aside, it was already impossible to find people to complete the temple DEs in Orr most days. Now it will be even harder since Fractals offer better rewards; new gear that will be required for future content + random drops.
So they should never add new content because people will want to play with the new content?
Fractals only drop rings and some mats to make a backpiece.
People will still need kit out their gear with exotics from other dungeons or crafting.
So much drama.
You completely missed the point. What if I wanted the armor you got from vendors after taking control of the statues? Well SOL because no one does that content anymore.
Also, ANET is funneling people into new content by making it the only place to get the best gear. This means that dungeons that were already harder to find a group for , because of lack of popularity, will be nearly impossible to find groups for in the future because everyone will be chasing after the new best stat gear in the game.
The drop rates are better when you’re not playing at the first tier (1-10)
Its still RNG, I don’t care if drop rate gets better.
Just got word that you get the ring after you finish fractal level 10 in the bonus chest…
Can anyone confirm?
(edited by Xpiher.5209)
It bad enough that you introduced treadmill but you have to tie that treadmill to RNG at the same time. Have you not seen what happens to other games that have this mechanic? WoW used to, guess what, they got rid of it because ITS BAD. Its the worst way to do things. Get rid of it please, or you’ll be losing more than just GW1 fans.
Really ANET are you WTH seriously. You make the Essence a RNG drop. WTF !!!!!
the 3rd option is worthless, still keeps us on the gear treadmill, maybe a bit worse
Naw, its not worse I adds progression without affect any other content in the game.
Thats the point? Thats what most of the complaints against this system are all about.
that makes it worse, cause u have to scrap whole sets of armor from the old dungeons, OR save 15 diff sets, each for a diff dungeon
You misunderstood then. You don’t scrap the armor, just the upgrade. ANET could easily make the upgrades removeable without destroying them.
Segregated everyone by sending them to the same place.
0/10 post
find 4 people it’s not hard.
Its not that hard maybe FOR YOU. Not everyone plays the game at the same time. For all you know, the OP could be playing from GMT + 10.
That aside, it was already impossible to find people to complete the temple DEs in Orr most days. Now it will be even harder since Fractals offer better rewards; new gear that will be required for future content + random drops. Not only that, but each fractal level increases your chances of getting even better gear. By this time next week, finding level 1 fractals will likely be nearly impossible. I wouldn’t be surprised if its up to level 7 since there isn’t a hard cap on difficultly level or a reset point.
As the title says. How long do you think it will take to get all three pieces.
My thoughts: Yesterday I did nothing but fractals (because they are fun actually). After about 4hrs-5hrs, in groups of mixed skill, I came away with appox 85 tokens (not signed in can’t look at the actual number). If the rings are aquired using tokens are are simply not in game yet, we can assume that the rings currently for sale at the token vendor are placeholders. Each ring cost currently ~1400 tokens. This means, to get 1 ring requires ~60hrs (2hrs to get 50 tokens), and thats assuming you don’t use the mystic forage to create the rings (Gift of the ascended + ring + upgrade component = ascended ring).
Both of these tools will make it easier for people to find groups to do old content which now, thanks to a combination of community wants and dev changes, will be extraordinarily hard to complete simply because not enough people on any 1 particular sever wants to do it.
They want people out of orr and into the dungeons. They are doing that in order to satisfy 2 types of players, those who like dungeons and those who like easy farming, with 1 blow.
the 3rd option is worthless, still keeps us on the gear treadmill, maybe a bit worse
Naw, its not worse I adds progression without affect any other content in the game.
Missing 1 stat isn’t going to kill your Fractal group LOL
Here are two complaints I see all the freaking time:
1) There is nothing to do once you’re level 80.
2) I wanted to get away from gear grinds and just play. Here is the problem – this is a MMO. The world does not, and will not stay stagnant. You guys can’t have it both ways. You can’t have a game where you get the best gear and then there is nothing to go to from there AND a game that continues to expand on itself by creating new content and, inevitably, gear.
Everyone here is complaining about the POSSIBILITY of a gear grind – why are you complaining? Isn’t this what you guys are so adamant about? “There is nothing to do when I get to 80”. Well you know what? Now there will be. What is it you guys are really looking for from ANet? I’m personally very happy with the game. I feel it has nailed everything that I’m looking for in a MMO. Bring on the content, and bring on more gear and dungeons. Keep on keeping in fresh ANet.
They could of had it both ways. Make ascended the progression system and remove the stat increase. Sadly, the majority of people who bought GW2 didn’t buy it because they wanted to get away from gear treadmill, they like gear treadmill they also liked everything else about the game. Its easier to please them and keep them than it is the GW1 crowd :/
That said, this is the best way to do a treadmill. Its very very slow. Assuming ANET doesn’t release the next set of ascended pieces for a few months and then lowers the requirements for the previous set it won’t be as bad as WoW.
Luckily, ANET made really really good dungeon with FOTM. I’ll play it despite the fact I hate treadmills.
Its a very very slow treadmill. People that loved GW1 won’t want that. Sadly, people that loved GW1 aren’t the majority apparently.
It doesn’t matter if the game is good, they turned into something I hate. They abandoned their original vision in hope of raking in the dough from WoW refugees. They essentially lied for 7 years just because people who bought the game without doing any research whined about “NO numbers to chase.”
And I uninstall GW2. Thanks ANET, I’ll never buy another themepark MMO again.
Can we have an official answhere?I think that at this points guys, the game don’t come back to their phylosophy. Why you are here only to delete post like mine before and don’t give us a real answhere?

Full breakdown in new mechanics
So, grinding.
It’s not like grinding wasn’t present in this game…. people grinded for their exotics, dungeon gear etc…..
The grinding statements made by Anet were mostly in reference to a necessary grinding through levels to get to an “end game”, but people like to take it out of context.
There’s also a lot of people in here making the false assumption that you need to run the new dungeon to receive ascended gear. Not true.
“Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. "
If you’re not interested in running a “grindy” dungeon, don’t.
there are real issues of miscommunication by the company, and they arent clearing at all, and this can go inb only one direction, worse, and worse.
1)they dont clear if the ascendend tier is the last tier in terms of stats, or if with future content\expansion they are going to increase item stats and level cap too.
2)they dont clear how infusion work, we only know that provide as sideeffect agony resistance
3)someone of us (me included) dont understand why release this new tier, update by update, when one of their statement was: “WHEN ITS READY”… and this tier its not ready!
i think that as customer, i have the right to have some clear information.
I dont like to act like a kitten… but i dont like to be fooled too.I’m with you Ganzo. I greatly desire information. A typically transparent staff has been rather mum on the issue. I feel this is likely because they want to trickle information through news outlets. Or, they may be required to keep silent since numerous news outlets are releasing information on the new content as we speak. I’ve no idea.
Until I’m shown otherwise, I will probably keep the mindset that exotic gear, with it’s wider range of customization (And possible greater upgrades coming along with the content) will prove to be on par, or better than ascended items in instances not specifically designed for the ascended gear.
Is this speculation? Of course. We’re all likely incorrect on details. But at this point I refuse to believe that a development studio would throw out an entire foundation of gear, an upgrade customization system, and their stated principles to add 3 pieces of gear that grant an “8% stat increase for people who desire a progressive loot system.” I’m not buying it until I see it.
I feel this most of this negativity stems purely from conjecture spewed by doomsayers that lack a full picture.
I wish that were true, even if it is convoluted.
“Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power. "
- Linsey Murdock
Yeah, I know. I suppose convoluted speculation is all we have at this point.
We’ll see. But I’m still not going with “the sky is falling.” I still feel this is an intended design choice. Not a reaction to people saying, “I’m bored! Give me lootz!”
Content development cycles are too long for a team to just up throw out their principles in a matter of weeks. If their principle goals changed when they started developing the content, we would have seen that reflected long before the game launched.
It doesn’t take months to add extra stat points. If ANET didn’t do that, then there wouldn’t be a problem with the system.
Anyways, off to bed have to be up in less than 5 hrs.
Which is one stance, sure.
However, I would argue that if what they are working is a design departure from years of public statements, press releases, interviews, and precedent, then they absolutely should be open and transparent of that process.
The important word there is ‘if’. IF this is the start of a real gear treadmill, I’ll also be pretty kittened. I’m willing to wait and see what they’re actually doing before I start demanding ritual sacrfice, though.
How long are you willing to wait? It seems like the answer won’t be given until a future content update.
You’ve seriously taken all the content in the game so far (which I’ve really enjoyed, personally), balanced it against one press release, and decided to form a lynch mob? Yeesh!
Yes because they are adding gear treadmills. Even if its craftable, if anet intends to add more gear later or use the current gear as a key to content then its treadmill.
Still , it is soon to bash at Anet. After the gear is implemented and we get to know how it is actually working we can make the judgment call.
Its not too soon since they aren’t clear how it will play out in the future. Thats the complaint.
Can we have an official answhere?I think that at this points guys, the game don’t come back to their phylosophy. Why you are here only to delete post like mine before and don’t give us a real answhere?
They aren’t going to come on here and speak about it. They are just going to jam this system down the throats of their customer base and see the effect on it’s customer base and revenue stream. If it’s too negative of an effect they will back track.
Don’t expect much from them as far as communication and honestly don’t believe much that comes from them. They haven’t been upfront about this and I doubt they ever will.
No they are fraud people. In all of this years if you see blog post, interview etc no one tell that they will introduce this kitten. If i saw that they will do one day, i will not buy Gw2.
Honest to God – I never thought this of the ANet team.
I’ve followed this game since before BWE # 1, and while changes have been made I never lost trust in their team. They adhered to the stated design philosophy, and in my opinion they released an amazing game. I have never enjoyed a game like this since Ultima Online.
It had bugs and balance issues, but I honestly don’t care. It had hackers and glitches, and I don’t care.
I never once badmouthed their team, and I even said “okay, I was wrong on that – much respect to you guys ANet”. Check my post history, I have nothing to hide.
But this time it’s different. I don’t trust many game companies, but I trusted this one.
I don’t even think I will go back to GW1 after this. This may seem all chicken little and overly dramatic to some of you guys… but you have to understand there are no other options for a game built on horizontal progression. This was it, and now it is gone.
It matters to me.
Sadly the Anet that made GW1 isn’t the same Anet that made GW2. Which is becoming more and more apparent with this patch.
Ya add me to that list too… I really don’t know what to think of this but I lost allot of trust in ANet …..ley seem to be pandering to the gear progression centric crowd, but that’s a cup your not going to fill with this update … by the end of the week it will be add more…more…more …. then what?
I really would like to hear something decisive as what direction they intend to go in before I spend any more of my free time in this game……I’ll take one slap in the face, I’m not going to set myself up for another.
Exactly!
Can we have an official answhere?I think that at this points guys, the game don’t come back to their phylosophy. Why you are here only to delete post like mine before and don’t give us a real answhere?

Full breakdown in new mechanics
So, grinding.
But for some reason you think its required lol.
I think people need to stop the panic and quoting of AN’s statements about gear. And actually GO READ THE NEW MECHANICS AND HOW THE GEAR ACTUALLY FUNCTIONS. And then understand what the content you read says. It states specifically that you don’t need the gear, like straight up. The gear is there to fill the gap for gear grinders. You are not forced to grind for the gear, you are not forced to get the gear to run the new dungeon.
The only problem is WvW, sound like a broken record. But scaling needs to be in place for ascended/legendary’s for WvW…. unless of course as they stated before no rules in WvW, in which case if you are a serious WvW’er you need to get new gear….. but ascended isn’t the gear you should be getting you should be getting legendary gear. Because of the sigil. Which makes exotic still the number one choice in WvW over ascended gear because of the sigil’s. The minor stat boost on ascended does not out weigh the sigil stats on exotic gear.
You simply don’t understand people’s complaint. Its that ANET hasn’t been clear if new content will require will offer better gear than ascended gear and require ascended gear to obtain or not.
The new content sounds great IF IT WASN’T FOR THE LACK OF CLARITY I WOULD BE ECSTATIC.
A big thing pointed out is that they are releasing MORE of this gear later (right now it is only the accessory and back slots). This means that the Agony condition is going to be present in a LOT more content. It is easy to expect that this bleeds to WvWvW otherwise why would PvP players ever find the need to get it? Why would it even be allowed to drop in WvWvW if it wasn’t expected for them to use it at some point? Just so they could run 1 dungeon? For the hardcore PvPers, they wouldn’t care, so providing it to them means they are planning to implement it in ALL aspects of the future content. A gear set dedicated just so people can go into 1 dungeon? C’mon, they’re going to do more than that, so the people claiming that this gear will be made mandatory for endgame are absolutely right in saying so.
I don’t care if they use Ascended gear in new content, I care if they use it and compound the increase of stats and resistences. If new content is released, but uses a new type of Agony resistance that you find in that dungeon then its not treadmill. If its the same type and simply better than what we got out of FOTM dungeon then its treadmill.
It’s gating content. It’s the same thing like back at WoW, where those without a certain gear score or a certain resistance level could not experience content. It’s the same principle, the stats and the infusion stat are regarded here as gating mechanics
Its only gating content if they compound the stats. If new content isn’t affected by the Agony resistance gained in FOTM, and they didn’t add more gear as well then it wouldn’t be gating content. The problem is, we don’t know if thats what they plan. And since I don’t want to waste time, I won’t be playing GW2 anymore until I get an answer one way or the other.
A big thing pointed out is that they are releasing MORE of this gear later (right now it is only the accessory and back slots). Sigh, now my post will be buried. See-
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/How-to-make-everyone-happy-1/first#post739055
Made the same suggestion earlier.
For those who say this isn’t gated or a treadmill. Please follow along.
Imagine GW2 6 months from now. Ascended gear is finally available in a full set. A lot of people (probably not most) have achieved their full sets, and are happily plodding along. It was released in a trickle so the grind wasn’t too bad…
Now, they want to release a new, challenging dungeon and map.
Do they balance it around a player in full Exotic gear? If they do so then the dungeon will be much easier for those in Ascended gear. They will complain that it was too easy.
Or, do they balance it around a player in full Ascended gear? If they do so then the dungeon will be impossible for anyone who doesn’t have Ascended gear. New players, slow players, non-dungeon crawlers, crafters, PvPers, explorers. Oh, but this is when they will allow other paths to Ascended gear.
And… what is it they are going to reward for this new dungeon 6 months out? Will they be rewarding only Ascended gear with the exact same stats? That didn’t work with Exotics… why would it now work with Ascended?
I was planning to play this game for the next 5 years or more. I own four accounts, all with slot upgrades and bank upgrades. My main account (which I play on personally) has 1 of each profession working their way to 80, and gathering multiple sets of gear to match different playstyles.
This is a moving goal-post, and I now have no idea what it will take to “finish” any of my characters.I do not want a never ending sense of progression.
I want a finite sense of completion.
AND THEN – I want to just have a good time with the game, and the community. You missed the whole progressive part of the dungeons that pretty much say you dont need the new gear…. but as you repeat the content with your group it gets harder and harder till you do need it.
This lets casual players that dont like getting gear do the content and have fun with the challenge.
Then the progressive players that like to gear up can keep grinding it until its so hard they cant go any further until they get the ascend gears.
Why can’t you comprimise is the question now. You still get the game you were advertised… your not required to get anything to do anything, its all doable. They have simply added an option for different player types to do the same exact content but just hard mode basically.
Except this gear will be used in WvW and general PvE content such as DE.
I don’t like dungeons, I like WvW, sPvP, and DE very rarely.
And more importantly.. you missed the very first idea in my post.
Imagine GW2 6 months from now
Yes, I get that THIS dungeon in THIS update is doable with Exotics. I mean, you can’t get to the highest end of rewards with them, but you can start.
But what about the NEXT dungeon in the NEXT update? That is the crux of my post and I don’t think you read any of it.
Exactly!? Its only a treadmill if future updates past this require the previous content update to even do the content. If new content has new armor/buffs but doesn’t require more than exotics to start then THERE ISN’T AN ISSUE.
As I have said before…
“Here are some of my problems, and other people probably feel the same way.
In gw1 you hit max level pretty early and get max gear pretty fast. After that you just farm for custom skins.
Gw2 was sold to us as the same type of thing.
So, I had planned on leveling 1 of each class to level 80 and buy them all multiple sets of exotic gear and weapons. Then I was going to mostly play them in WvW and then sometimes explore pve for fun and skins, as new content came out.
A lot of people had already gotten far enough to make lots of sets of exotics and used transmutation stones, believing that this gear would have max stats forever. Some spending a fair amount of money on this and now feel it was wasted and are upset.
The problem now is that the precedent has been set for new tiers of gear being added into the game.
I no longer believe that I will be able to level all classes to 80 and get all of the different sets of gear for them in the time that I want to spend with the game.
Even if I decided I could live with this new gear and filled the inventory of my characters with lots of different sets of gear for WvW, they could then just decide to add a new tier of gear and all my time would have been semi wasted and I would need to farm new gear. I would never be able to trust that my gear had the best stats and I would never use transmutation stones either.
So, pretty much, with this update, the game will no longer be the game that I wanted to play and I will have to quit.
For me to play the way I had planned on playing the game would have to have a firm max tier, or, WvW will have to use pvp gear… or both."
So this has nothing to do with me whining. If the patch goes through it will no longer be the game that I want to play. From my point of view this patch will cause as much disinterest for me as if it was patched into being a racing simulator or an RTS.
I also notice that the few people (defending)calling people names have only posted in this forum as if they are new accounts… I doubt if most of them are even real players of the game.
People need to stop saying they are setting a precedent.
Every single change sets a precedent… nerfs, buffs etc…. they all set a precedent.
Increasing karma prices for gear? Precendent…. How do we know they wont continue doing this?
Flooding the market with Materials? Precendent… What if they did this with other hard to get mats?
Saying they are setting a precedent doesn’t mean anything when everything they change can set a precedent.
It’s changing their stated game philosophy – play it your way – not any more – no gear grind – not any more – multiple paths to a goal – not any more – no exclusion from content based on gear – not any more. And that’s what ppl have an issue with this is not the game I bought if I wanted this tired old format I’d be back in WoW or Rift.
You can still play how you want…. You don’t even need Ascended gear if you don’t want it as it isn’t the most beneficial tier, no upgrades means your shoehorned into what stats they give you… you can still achieve your goals anyway you want…. and your still not excluded from content…. you can do all 9 Fractals without needing Ascended gear. I don’t see what content you are then missing out on.
Like I said, we DON’T KNOW THAT. Your statement only holds true if future content doesn’t require us to have Ascended gear to even complete it. Will the next update require me to have these two rings to even make it past the first tier? What happens after they add the entire set of ascended gear? Will there be BLESSED GEAR after that?
Ok you take one group with 36% more stats over all due to having full sets of new gears/weapons vs another group that does not have that stuff….
Tell me, who will win in pure numbers?
Oh you say it’s only 2 rings and a back slot, silly! Then I point out they explicitly said they are not only adding a full set with accompanied weapons but ALSO with mutiple ‘tiers’ and more legendaries on top of that.
So now you want to not play and not be left behind in stats or gear… oh dear… C’mon if you dont play the gae for 3 months or whatnot ofc you will be left behind, thats perfectly normal and expected…
This game becomes Gear Wars, just like that other game and all it’s clones.
That would be a no thank you for me.
They said it in their announcement post that the gear wouldn’t all be released at once. The only ascended gear being released today is a piece or two…. ill go back and read maybe ive been up to long and im off my rocker o.O. But if they release say 2 pieces every 3 months….. the situation you outlined above is really not gonna happen because most will go after the new pieces.
Most who are at the level cap, who have full sets of good gear (rare or exotic), who enjoy dungeons, who want to grind for Ascended gear (which based on their reasoning will be more difficult than exotics, less than legendary), and who have the privilege to play the game over the next couple months.
Anyone who does not fall into ALL of those categories will be left behind.
Look… If you expect to NOT play this game and still be on par with everyobne your having a pipe dream. I cant beleive that anyone would egnuinley think that would be acceptable. If you dont play the game EXPECT to be l eft behind its perfectly natural. This smacks of people who want everything but dont want to put the effort in.
“It all gets back to our basic design philosophy. Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward. Our games are designed to be fun from moment to moment.”

Executive Producer of Guild Wars 2And this is true. The game will still be fun from moment to moment. It still doesent mean u can not play for 3 months and remain at the same level as everyone else.
“So if you love MMORPGs, you should check out Guild Wars 2. But if you hate traditional MMORPGs, then you should really check out Guild Wars 2. Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun; and of course, it doesn’t have a monthly fee.”

Executive Producer of Guild Wars 2Does that mean I can have my money back if I wanted, if they go down this progression route?
Sadly no.
I actually loled at this topic title, you want free ascended gear? No. Mmo’s grow, and so will you. It’s a formula us mmo gamers are all accustom to and it’s essential to give the game longevity. Every time new gear tiers are introduced, it’s always funny to see how those in end game feel “entitled” to free upgrades XD.
No, most people who bought GW2 did so because they didn’t want vertical gear progression. We are tired of that mmo model. It has nothing to do with wanting free gear, its not wanting new content to be gated and tied to RNG generated gear.
I’m sorry, “most” people did not buy gw2 for the reason you stated above, that’s quite the assumption. How do you think mmo’s keep people playing long term? People expect new content like dungeons, new arenas to fight in, more epic stats or appearance items to achieve, it’s all a standard feature in any mmo on the market today to KEEP YOU LOGGED ON. Like it or not, the devs are trying to make their bacon, and do so by keeping you logged on. “But I play for fun and not for gear,” well, many people also enjoy chasing carrots(new gear etc..), you expect the devs to cut those players out entirely by NEVER introducing new tiers of stats or appearance? If you dont want gear inflation found in every mmo, then it’s nice that you have spvp where gear inflation does not reach.
ANET advertised their game as not having vertical progression in gear. And the fact that you think the only way to keep people playing is by offering them more powerful gear is the problem with the MMO market. How about more story content? How about Dungeon progression? How about a long epic quest that gets you a house plot that’s customizable? How about a gear plateau with ever expanding levels?
But the point is, if I want gear treadmill I would play games like Rift, WoW, WAR, AoC, etc. I don’t play those games because I hate gear treadmills. So it looks like I’ll have to wait for a good sandbox game to come out because GW2 was my last hope for a themepark game to finally break the mold of hamster wheel gear treadmills
Do people really think a game can;t have character progression without more levels and gear? WTH!? Simply adding more skills and traits to unlock doesn’t require new levels or gear. You can also add new levels without new gear with new stats. You can also progression without stats or level by adding story content or an upgrade to gear that doesn’t involve RNG or something else.
IB4L but I agree
Please tell me you are joking. The entire time ANET marketed this game they said no vertical gear progression i.e. gear treadmill. And now people want to add it into every aspect of the game. Are you kidding me!?
I realize some of you are joking. I’m not sure about the OP

No, the obvious thing to do is:
- remove any/all stat differences between exotic and ascended gear – 8% better is not acceptable
- make agony resist into a set of runes, or make any armour infusable
This! imho, Exotic, Ascenced and Legendary should all be identical in stats, and the only differences should be in the rarity of their skins (just as ArenaNet originally said it would be). They all should get the additional infusion slot for Agony or whatever… people should never be forced to upgrade from their current exotic gear to ascended/legendary just to be able to do the new content.
People who want to grind, can grind for the rarer ascended or legendary gear, and show off with those rare skins in the game.
But didn’t you know, without the stats they aren’t worth getting lol
I got 4 last time I logged in. Its just RNG bad luck.
There is alot of confusion right now about the future of this game and the uncertainty is only serving to divide the community. So I’m requesting a simple statement regarding the following questions.
- Will there be new high-end content requiring different infusions or other such gear mechanics?
- Will there be rewards that can only reasonably be obtained by playing in the higher difficulty gated levels of such content?
- Is the new gear-check system the only type of high-end content we can expect? If not, can we look forward to high-end content that we can challenge as far as possible, using the exotics that we have now?
- Will new item tiers ever be added?
- Will the level cap ever be raised in such a way that we must also upgrade our gear?
Thank you.

Yes, we need clear answers for these questions. But IB4L
I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with you. But basically what you’re saying is that these “locusts” don’t have a right to express how they want their game play to be? What makes them wrong and you right on determining the betterment of this game?
The fact that GW2 was sold as not having gear treadmill maybe? And lets not forget that it appears that this gear is currently tied to an RNG system FML
