“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
It’s funny if i think about it: I’m PvE “only” and got a staff, scepter, focus and GS however I use mainly two swords / focus. :P Well those 5% damage … I’ve got 2 bonetti’s rappier, so I just made the others for design
Scepter depends … In PvE you can make use of it as Zerker too, In WvW or PvP you need more the condition thing about the weapon. However There are also Hybrid builds wich support the scepter. Going for condition damage if you are power focused however makes no sense and vice versa.
Zerker Build
Hybrid Build
Condition Build
So – I tought about 15/30/0/25/0 recently. What shall I take at 30 in duelling if not mantra stuff?
funny, I like mantras too, but I think we are three out of 10 people who like it. Most players complain about them.
its been a while since i tried 30/30/0/0/10. Maybe I should give it a try again
@Xyonon: Maybe try 20/20/0/30/0. you get a glamour trait (but a mediocre) and a bit vulnerability.
Many players complain about something thats new, they don’t know and therefore don’t use it properly. Mantras are just one part, there are also Skills like the iDisenchanter/iDefender, Mimic or MirrorHealThing.
20/20/0/30/0 is the build I used since half a year :P Well since the patch that switched the 5 illusion to 25. >_>’’ However, now I got my vournability but what do I pick for mantras? :s just da heal :o
And what did you think about the 30 in Duelling? No good skill there >.< ??
MoPain, but thats simply from a solo testing perspective. You bring up a good point though with Power Lock, gonna give that a try. Was thinking of messing with a Halting Strike build… 11 stacks of Vulnerability and a ~4k hit would definitely out do MoPain. Good call.
Blood~
Image you didnt interrupt, “just” one daze. Everyone will deal ø7500 DpS approximately. Now Image you daze, 5 stacks for 10 sec. IF the enemy lives so long (bosses will still get vournability even with their buff on) You deal ~20’000 passive damage. Just – this – daze. Thats why I want this trait so bad.
Hey Blood, thx for your tips
I was recently running a 30/30/0/0/10 build too just for mantras sake
And indeed it was fun! It really outdamages probably every other mesmer build (except against critable worldbosses iWarlock ftw). The support with condition remove is also very nice, aswell stability and especially vournability.
But the reflection is simply missing. So in my option I want my reflection back for a “perfect” build.
By the way, what do you mean with MoP? Mantra of Pain/Perplexity?
If you mean pain – don’t. The daze deal much more damage – yes it does, especially in groups. Since you have the 15 in dominion, you will stack 5x vournability for 10 sec, if you interrupt even 8×. 5-8% more damage for the whole team deal MUCH more damage than pain every will do. Also it can be a life saver.
Shattering isn’t my style. I really hate the whole illusion line :P Terrible opportunity costs.
Yea I did the 0/20/0/25/25 but it felt terrible with the lack of power, condition durateion (vournability) and maybe crit. The stats you gain at illusion are just terrible for everything in a phantasm build. And you spend 25 points for just a tiny little bit of damage compared to what you would deal if you’d traited into dominion and dueling. To be honest – traiting at illusion is just good in PvP / WvW with condition for confusion and shattering all the time.
10/30/0/30/0 seems fine, here are my biggest “buts”:
however the mainreason I’m aware of this is: what do I do if i dont play mantra? What shall i choose there? I don’t want to forcetrait pistol i rarely use and also I dont want some stupid clones who destroy my 3rd phantasm on dodge – what else is useful? :s
What do you think about dom and duel?
EDIT: AND THX BRO ^^
I tried and tried and tried but I really can’t get to a good final solution. That’s why I ask mroe ppl for assistance. Maybe I’m missing something, maybe there is a much better solution if you XYZ…
Just edited my first post for my playstyle. I want to use mantras, glamour, phantasms full zerk.
About the thing with “don0t choose traits because of the bonus the traitline provides”.
Take for example the +3% per Illusion trait, requires 10 points. Now what would happen if I’d spent the 10 points into Dominion? +100 power. This results into:
+3% – +9% more damage for me or approximately +4% more damage for me and my phantasms. What is better now? This is on of the thoughts I’ve made and the keep overwhelming me :s
Hey everyone.
I feel like there is no other way to play a profession efficient than full Zerker or maybe a bit kitten. Simply because Power + Crit Chance + Crit Damage (+ vournability) multiplies the damage much stronger than Con. Damage + Con. Duration. Also the max. 25 Stacks of bleeding are a total fail design and a pain for every condition spammer. And last but not least – I feel almost no difference building some Vit., Tough., or Healing Power.
Fast suggestion:
Keep in mind -> PvE
Just wanted to tell ya that the mantra that grants stability for you and your allies does not work properly. If you activate it everyone gets stability and cannot be knockd back/down or something. However IF the whole group gets knocked down and i use the mantra, they gain stability too but I am actually the only one who’s standing up.
It’s very annoying, especially at Harpy fractale, all get knockbacked I use the mantra, everyone still falls down except me T_T
Plz fix
And exactly THIS is the reason why I never ever gonna buy myself a legendary
how rich can you even be?
Zerker, even in WvW you just can get other stats on trinker and armor if you really need to.
Greetings!
Since I started the game at release and played with no idea what I’m doing, my traits allways changed. After a long break I started to play again at about easter last year. That was the first time I went actually zerker and phantasm build. Yea… I was alone the whole time at the beginning and really leveld with Scepter Focus Staff and traitet in chaos … I WAS YOUNG AND NAIVE DONT JUDGE ME
cough how ever once I took a deeper look into the whole trait things I went a some strange build up to about 6 months ago. Since then I played 20/20/0/30/0. Now the last month I tried many different builds and bought tons of armorsets. Condition damage, hybrid damage, power, shatter, confusion, support, mighstacking with interruption, mantra, healer, reflection, etc.
Loooong text for a short message: I’ve come to the point where I actually tried everything I could image in PvE. Now I need a build wich fits my playstyle and allows me to swith traits without retraiting to what i need.
My playstyle:
So I start at 0/0/0/0/0, what are the “must have” traits?
10/20/0/0/0
And what now? How can I get acess to extremly nice traits like:
I need professional and productive help. And I beg you – plz no “WHY YOU USE GS” thread :P
THX EVERYONE
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Looks more like a mesmer casted iSwordman on a Warrior with T3 cultur armor :P
I also ask me why there are no fans as weapons for mesmers
http://www.buffed.de/screenshots/original/2011/08/Guild_Wars_2_01.jpg
I don’t want to talk about Krait-Witches x.X they are all so kittening kitten on their small platforms or underwater
brrrrr >:<
Or the Hydra
Really hard worldboss if you ask me. Normally noone there
there is no “tank” in higher fractales anymore. the air should tank as much as possible :P
We should just get back to topic ….
So – how long did it take you to do TA p3?
You definitly didn’t think about all paths like you just noticed yourself. It was just a lucky coincidence for you that 3x 20 mins = 1h. Especially after you said “Naked is one hour nub”. Therefore you seem to be perplexed so you try to stack every argument you just found. And then the “anyway” to distract from your obvious loss
so smart, boy.
To compare WvW skill with PvE skill is about the same as to compare an artist with a draftsman. They both “play the same game” but like completly differenct challenges. PvE is a chilling game where you can set up tactics and try to figure out what works the best. WvW is like fighting a huge mass of “smarter” enemies. However to be proud of yourself beating 3 enemies doesnt allways mean that you are good, it often means you just have beaten 3 enemies that try to level via wvw. If you talk about skill and micromanagement better go PvP with organized groups. However to say PvE content is no skill is completly bull"stuff".
Alissah, my toughts on your post:
In general you also got the main problem of beeing able to react.
You have to choose to keep your mantras up for removing conditions, granting stability etc OR you charge them for heal. It’s just unpracticle how the heal works.
It would be much better if it just heals 50% but on mantra use.
Also if you trait more agressive the enemy dies faster there fore deals less damage → less to heal.
This is one of those thread where it seems like colesy vs the rest. Well this time I’m sitting next to colesy cuz everything he said is definitly right and makes sence. I just read the whole thread and the reasons for a “healing mesmer” are just laughtable compared to a zerker. Also those numbers … “40k hundred blades so stronk” … please … stop the “wanna be” and become more efficient.
Yea they suck – upload it via attachment, click “preview” and then add the next one :P
→ DS penetration <- it’s compared to cleave too 3x 6-9k
Well what does a necro do? Damage, Heal a bit with wells and removing conditions / blind. Thats it :o
Well I run 30/10/0/0/30 with DS and wells. Runes are 3x +20% might dura and sigills for battle. DS hits about 6-9k and penetrates wich is wich some good positioning the same as a cleave, even better to be honest. Also I constantly got 10-20 stacks might. The wells are dealing great damage and also blind <3. Axe 2, dagger aa, just use this for some burst and weapon switch for battle sigills and the main “aa” is DS1.
I guess colesy gets blinded for about 20 years if he sees this
What cleave? You mean the GS’ piercing auto? Yeah, I think we’ve gone over how it’s bad.
Oh sorry I forgot that GS user use GS/GS in their weaponset.
Does it really? Mirror blade & mind stab > sword auto chain? DPS in this game is very autoattack-centric, you should know this. It’s why sword/focus on guardian tends to just involve 111-ing for the win, because everything besides focus 5 is a personal DPS loss.
True, I also don’t summon any phantasms on my guardian.
So basically you’re desperately trying to make up for the poor auto DPS by usinga knockback which is a DPS loss, a poor phantasm and two other skills which are out-DPS’d by sword auto. The way I see it, you’re better off going curtain warden and then about 3 1/2 sword auto chains, or 2 1/2 chains and a blurred frenzy since it’s a DPS gain provided you don’t interrupt the chain.
The knockback is as much a DpS loss as the magic bullet is. The same “poor” phantasm that outdamages your lovely duellist / swordsman? It’s cute how you still persist that everything is single target, even if you are facing 3 enemies. How much time does it take for a iD / iS to deal 24k damage? Hopefully less than 7 seconds (untraited).
There is no burst, and pistol has an interrupt. Burst is something like hundred blades + whirlwind attack in to a wall, phantasms are just sustained DPS.
Hundred blades over an hour is just sustained dps too. Stop it already – any phantasm does some kind of burst after wich it goes into sleep mode. Burst simply means a high amount of damage over a short amount of time. If you summon something in the end of a battle you finish the enemy with a burst and definitly not with “sustained damage” …
What actually happens is you go in to 1,200 range, cast duelist (1s cast time), swap once in combat for three stacks of might, cast swordsman (900 range?), illusionary leap, swap, melee. But apparently that’s too difficult for you, you’d rather use trashsword for no real reason.
What’s the difference between you and me? Oh right, I summon a Zerker instead of crappy duellist. Any other difference? Yup, I throw might to allies and then I keep going the same as you. If I see there will be a 2nd wave of acolytes I’m even able to deal damage while already moving back to their spawnpoint.
I ignore points that aren’t worth answering.
If I would do so too I’d never ever quoted anything of you. You don’t even seem to wanna learn anything new.
And yet I never actually claim to be a master player at all, just someone who uses common sense and takes the most rational path to something (more damage? melee!). “Use every weapon aslong as you can make good use of it” just sounds like play how you want spiel, there are weapons in this game which should just flat out not be used in dungeon fights, like guardian mace, warrior main hand sword and mesmer off hand torch.
Torch is useful in CoF p2 aswell maybe even in TA. There are even more options where you can make use of it, but the torch is indeed just a free cloak ability ooc or a additional condition remover. However since mantrapatch we don’t really need it anymore. Torch seems to have about 0 useage in PvE thats true.
You switch to pistol for magic bullet, not the phantasm. Going Sw/P allows you to cleave with the main hand sword which will out DPS the GS.
Hm …. let’s see … Shall I pick cleave + magic bullet (duellist is useless here, nice you agree with me), or shall I pick cleave + aoe phantasm + aoe interrupt? Hm … so hard to decide … not -.-‘’ As long as you prevent using GS aa, the GS outdamages the sword. So just use it as opener or finisher if you can’t make good use of it.
So you are either close range making the damage suck, or long range meaning you’re not receiving boons. Your DPS will be bad. Worst case scenario, your party’s DPS sucks even more and you aggro the mobs, ungrouping them.
In this case I use 5, 4, 2 and 3 and there is no more need for aa’s since the enemy is dead. Why should I switch earlier? The whole szenario lasts about 10 seconds…
You shouldn’t be switching to GS just for the phantasm if the remainder of the abilities compromise your DPS to the point that you were better off just cleaving with sword.
Finishing burst + interrupt…
Then why use GS in the first place if you can just stack and cleave with them?
Still the same answer … 3rd time …
2.7k assuming all four hits, I’m pretty sure you read the thread. If only three hits connected it would drop to 2.1k anyway, but since the boss is an object, all four hits connect. And why not drop duelist and swordsman on the way to the stone instead? That sets up two phantasms and then you can melee away with our strongest weapon.
Hm … so I cast duellist, then swordsman then walk … and walk …. now I’m melee and start attacking OR I cast 4, 2, 1, 1, switch, phantasm offhand, melee. The swordsman will outdamage the izerker but since this object doesn’t bleed, the duellist won’t. So I just take the swordsman offhand, tyvm.
If people would stop being wrong then maybe I could.
Maybe you should just start with it already – since you simply “didn’t answer / notice” some points in my original post – those points where you realized you were wrong. Better not talk about it eh?
This transition in to accepting the GS is weak is long and difficult for many of you but you’ll get there eventually.
And it’s even a longer way until you reached the level where you start to use every weapon aslong as you can make good use of it, before judging them without even trying. Colesy you are definitly not the master player you wanna be
, not like you are acting here all the time.
@ Xavi:
Of course I have – I don’t know how many players are doing what I am doing, but if somone tells me “this is better than that” I test it. Sure I post right away here my expections and expiriences. But I’m happy to learn new things instead of beeing focused on my own opinion.
Maybe it has been too long since I did it last time with what weapon ever you prefer instead of GS / Sword Focus. I know the GS aa is not as strong as the sword’s. But if you can prevent using it, the GS is an awesome weapon even in melee (for example open with 2, 3, 4 and switch to sword for the rest of the fight wich often lasts just 10~ sec anyways (CoF p2)).
Or can you tell me something new?
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Well agony i guess it all depends on the situation. In the end it just reflects our playstyle and i guess both builds are more than viable. Fot the expirience sake I’m gonna try yours too.
•Run starts: The first 3 shamans, pulled to the edge (focus 4) casting a warden and blurred frenzy and then burst them with with a GS phantasm aswell interrupting them all again (gs 5).
Or… swap to off-hand pistol and stun and daze while not completely gimping your DPS with GS? Assuming a warrior in the party, they have mace 5 knockdown too. Assuming a guard, binding blade. I’m sure other classes have access to CC too.
•Then the 3 fire shamans: Pulled to the wall (focus) and keep them at the wall with gs 5. Somehow they allways start to move again
Is the whole group stacked and cleaving?
•Final “Boss” seems easier to attack starting on range while moving melee. Burst phantasm. Useful than just “walk” to it :P
How is iZerker “burst”? Since the final boss is an object, on 0/20/0/25/25 you’ll deal about 2.7k damage (+ any might stacks if you have any) versus the 2.4k on duelist and 2.2k on swordsman. Plus if you had sword on both main hands you could swap between your two off-hands to get 3 phants up if you wanted to while still dealing nice auto damage.
I still can’t figure out how a phantasm that deals slightly higher damage per cycle, but has a slower recharge than the two best DPS phantasms is meant to be considered “burst”. Do you just mean tagging mobs?
I’m tired of you so I’ll make it quick:
→ Why should I switch to a crappy off-hand pistol who does the same interrupt but has only 1/3 strengh phantasm? Gimping my DpS with GS? I’m sorry if you are too lazy to move into a position to hit 3 enemies with the AA so it deals just about 20% less than the Sword aa. However, the phantasms outdamages the duellist so much, the 20% less damage aren’t even noticeable, especially if I just do about 2-3 aa’s with the GS since the enemies are approximately down by now cuz’ the mesmer used its AoE potential instead of “good dps single target offhand phantasms”.
→ The whole group is stacked and cleaving and everything what happens is about the same as above. The enemies normally die before I even get used to spam GS aa.
→ It’s burst since it doesnt miss an attack since it struggles at the top of the stone. Id won’t deal 2.7k instead of 2.4/2.2k, it will deal about 3.2k. Also you can spam 2 and 3 while moving toward the stone to melee him. But it’s okay colesy you might not know how the GS works on certain enemies since you never ever use it. I forgive you.
You only critizism what you think is wrong, but I’ve never seen a post of you quoting somone and saying “yes this is a good point, you’re right”.
Well to be honest – I defenitly earn more money in real life if I would work the hours I would need to gain a legendary by myself. How many hours do you have to play for a legendary? Sure more than 40 i guess …
When you calculate with constant 9% you’d better take at least 2 phantasms and your impact goes down rapidly.
However IF you go for mantras you’ll gonna outdmg your phantasms immediately. And what I see is that you’re right, the damage is really about the same :o However you trait for damage and I trait for support and we still do the same damage tough.
Well staff goes for 1500 per attack wich is pretty low, however it can hit 2 enemies or grant buffs. GS goes for 1500-2500 but is able to go trough 3 targets. It’s doable but its a bit harder to play like this, since you have to mark targets by your own. You can do more with a GS than just “attacking”.
As much as I like the GS – the problem Blood is, that you will stay out of range for might buffs. Overall the Sword will deal about 20-30% more damage. But it’s not that terrible as ppl try it to look like.
I think I’ll give my 30/30/0/0/10 one more week then I try the other style.
but but … +4~% more damage for you and your illusions :o i mean you will never have permanently 25 stacks might, will you?
If you use force/night/undead, do you miss the battle runes or bloodlust?
True the heal rotation is faster hmmm … How much does the healing mantra trait heal actually?
Well force is kinda wasted as mesmer but energy seems to be very strong against taff enemy bosses. Thx bro.
15% from dominon 10 and 15% from inspiration 25. And yes it has been confirmed about a hundred times, it will be calculated like this:
-> 1.15 * 1.15 = 1.3225
Damage multiplier will be calculated multiplicative. Thats why I made the 4.2% + 15% to 20%
-> 1.042 * 1.15 = 1.1983
Good points and I sure will make that expirience too. I want to test EVERYTHING!!! But I have to make a few points too:

Well at the dungeons I’ve been it’s easy to recharge them while walking to the next place – but in a longer fight (gonna test soon ^^) i guess it sux.
Mantra Rework:
- Mantras have no CD anymore, nor are they chargeable. They can just be casted.
- You gain one mantra every [today cd/2] up to 2 mantras at the same time.
- The trait for 3 mantras gives you still up to 3 stacks instead of 2
- The trait for +4% per ready mantra gives now 2% per mantra charge (this buff shall grant you “the same power” while actually using mantras).
- The trait for 20% cdr for mantras reduces the chargetime to [today cd/3]
So mantras would recharge themselves and are able to be “bursted” and stacked. This would eliminate the charging system.
You can get 15% damage or 32.25%? Hmm… I’ve already decided.
100 Power are approximately equal to 3.3-4.2% damage (2400-3000 power on char)… So actually you can get 4.2% damage for your own (best case) and 1.196% damage for your phantasms instead of 0% for you and 32.25% for your phantasms?
As if you got phantasms out there… (m=mesmer / p=phantasm)
1.04m + 1.20p = 1.00m + 1.32p
0.04m + 1.20p = 1.32p
0.04m = 0.12p
1m = 3p
So… Aslong as you won’t deal 3 times as much damage as your phantasm for each phantasm out there (up to 9 times as much damage as your phantasms). – yes it actually IS not so clever :P
Your groups dont “need” more feedbackbubbles, more reflection etc? Well they also don’t “need” you to deal more damage – they don’t “need” high equip, they don’t “need” to be different classes. BUT IT HELPS -.-’’
Yep, the GS is great for spiking assassins from across the room.

CoF p2 is a great GS dungeon, but p1 I’ll never even touch it.
The thing with the 3 mantras is most about power cleanse, the heal and interruption combines with domination 15. It allways adds 8 stacks vournability and this is equal to 8% more damage for the whole team for 10 sec (domination increases condition duration).
So, whats the general DpS of a class? ø5000 per target? Some might be more some might be lower, evading and casting etc. I think 25’000 DpS for the party is easy doable, I guess it’s more but even with 25’000, 8% over 10 sec equals to 20’000 damage. The result changes if there are already vournable stacks on it (negative) or if the enemy dies within 5 sec (still 10’000) but aswell if the team has more might stacks (positive).
offtopic: this is just one very powerful example of what passive damage means. Reflection will count as passive heal or again as passive damage if your allies don’t have to dodge.
It’s like a chain reaction: going for 15 in dominion is just a short step to 20 wich is a short one to 30. I’m gonna try it with 2 mantras too since I want the expirience, but I’m worried about it a bit :P
As I have mentioned: focus 5 still protects and you still have your feedback when needed. And NEVER compare something with other classes.
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
It’s funny how everyone think’s there are just the “Elitists / sword lovers / GS haters” and the “GS fanatics / Elitist blamers” in here. It’s like you joing the community and the first time you say “I think GS is …” you will be categorized into A or B.
Morpheus Face
What if I told you, there are GS lovers, GS haters and the players who use all weapons situational when needed? Stop beeing lazy and just switch some weapons between encounters. If somone asks me “what weapon do you use in CoF1?” I’ll have to say “Well … Sword, Sword, Focus, Pistol, Staff”. It all depends on enemies AND allies.
Pretty much this. But even in dungeons there are some parts where I don’t wanna miss the GS. I often use it in CoF 2 for example. Especially last 2 rooms.
Those were my thoughts too. I really love reflection but I don’t wanna betrey myself so I give the whole mantra thing a try and I’m surprised in a positive way right now.
What does the focus reflection give us? Warden absorbs anyway projectiles and protects therefore and the focus 4 was anyway useless 50% of the time since it’s too flat and enemies jsut shoot over it. It’s annoying.
I am actually missing:
