Because not everyone should be able to do everything with a weapon. Why can’t Thiefs dual swords? Why can’t Guards? Why can’t a Mesmer use a Dagger? Cuz it would take away the unique part of weapons.
It’s also pretty much a design win that thiefs change their 3 depending on main and offhand. Unique.
There was never an announcement that the current weapons will become aviable for other classes and hands. There are just new weapons under contruction.

F3 isn’t aoe :P It’s single target. However it depends on what you’ve got up. We got Sword line daze with short cd, better use it before you switch weapons again. Then there is the mantra and F3, aswell the chaosstorm. 5% – 8% more damage for up to 10 sec is a huge damage buff for the team. I’ve been watching the vulnerability stacks for a long time now and they are usually at 15 during combat. We got enough space to increase the damage quite well. But as I allways say – there is no “best build” there is just a “personal best build”. Try to aim for that and you will succeed.
Torch in PvP is pretty ok imo. Confusion, damage and retalation. I mean – thats ok.
So is vulnerability. It’s not for the “I” it’s for the “us” …

If you don’t need any glamour you can simply switch it with healing mantras aswell. Or more Hp for phantasms or cleanse on heal (great with mantras). Best skills are in Inspiration trait.
I would recommend 10/30/0/20/10 for sw/sw + sw/f. Take empowering mantras for your grandmaster, you should always have atleast 1 mantra (the heal usually). Gives you pretty decent personal dps, some nice phantasm dps and good reflect damage. You want perception sigil for reflect damage.
So … you spend 10 points for 1-2 mantras meaning +4% – +8% damage for you? 100 power results into +4% damage for you and all your phantasms ya know. Howver since the duelling gives you good stats aswell i would leave the crappy illusion stuffa way and go at least for 15/30/0/25/0.
Vulnerability is a % stat for your whole team. It lasts 9 sec procced with 15 in dom. Even if you got a weak party with a DpS of 25’000, the passive damage per daze would be sexy 11250. If the enemy lives so long – and yea elites aswell bosses will.
It’s because rabbits have no armor – I’m not sure but I remember that the tooltip number is correct on an enemy with 2000 armor …? Was 2000 medium? or 1500? xD dunno anymore :P

First of all: What weapons do you like? What’s your playstyle?
In general you require much reflection in fotm. A phantasm build is perfect. So you need to go at least X/20/X/20/X. Pretty much the must have.
If you use the pistol you should go for 10/30/0/30/0. If you don’t (as I do to be honest) then you mainly go sword/focus +sword/sword. Means 20/20/0/30/0 is better imo.
I don’t like the illusion trait line since it gives you no useful stats, just the 3-9% damage for you (not phantasms). 100 power more grants you and your phantasms approximately 4% damage. I’m also a huge fan of dom. 15. But thats playstyle again 10/20/0/20/10 is good too i think. However pistol user should go for 30 in duelling.
But you should find your own traits that fit you personally the best.
Sigils: Battle and Bloodlust. Fire is pretty bad for mesmer, since phantasm won’t proc it unlike might from battle sigils.

Well arenanet said they will take a look at the scepter for the december patch. The aa is broken – it doesn’t even work with TW due it’s mechanics. The dps requres a boost I guess. However I better compare it first with staff gs and sword.
Sword is AoE, aswell focus. Sword offhand gives you the ablility to focus higher threats and grants protection.
Story mode is a cinch except on Elementalist. Too many mobs for one little boneless bag of bits.
Some champs are soloable. I solod the giant in Nageling (Diessa) with my ranger. Others, no chance.
Easy peacy :o as Mesmer at least. Block what ever you want, stability with stunbreaker and condition remover for fearprotect, infinite vigor from passive – couldn’t be easier o.O
The main problem will be vigor for other classes, I just know that the necro has no vigor trait but how about others?

That’s why I rarely use the pistol in PvE. I often go for a sword/sword and sword/focus. There area often situations where you benefit from AoE more than from another single target dummy, also reflection and cleanse. But as for allways it depends on the enemies. However since last patch when they took away the 100% combo finisher I feel like the pistol traiting isnt worth it since we stay anyway in melee. That’s why I feel 20 in duelling is enough and so I can invest in other traits. Either more utility or more passive damage.
Don’t need a special circle or anything, just an “out of range” bar on the Portal Exeunt skill. (And a buff timer for when it’ll run out!)

The tooltips are totally wrong at some phantasms yes. Not long ago the warden dealt 100 damage … hue hue (talking about ingame)

Point blank range is melee right? And you say your greatsword kills single targets nearly as fast as a sword/sword in melee?! If colesy reads this, he vomits his rage through the screen right into your face o.O
Honestly – just went ingame. Sword autoattack of 10 sec deals 11000 damage uncritted against dummies. GS aa in melee does 5000 damage uncritted, max range 8500 over the same time. Do I have to mention the cleave whereas the GS has a much more difficult “aoe” to land.
So we are talking about the “big bad mob” that is dying in 30 sec instead of 45 or 60 sec… Lets say 60, you won’t recive any buffs at max range, will you? But to be fair I have to admit that melee has to dodge sometimes wich takes away damage again. So 45 instead 30 sec. Pretty good to have +33% damage isnt it? But again → cleave eh…
You also can solo him melee with mantras :P But yea I had that szenario too once, but I was using Staff, Scepter, Sword for blocks.

There was once a thread about the phantasm dps. iWarlock outdamages the pistol after 2 and the sword after 4 conditions. That’s nothing against a boss. Highest crit I’ve ever had with the iW was 25k wich is rare but doable. In dungeons the crits are about 10-15k. Still better than the other phants.
I guess the biggest “problem” is the auto attack. Staff 1 can be done twice when the sword does it’s full rota once. The sword rota is ø6k direct damage wheras the staff is about 2k but with the conditions even 3k. However the temporary clone you can create deals aswell a bit damage and lets not forget the buffs you will spend with the bounce. Especially fury: a player with 60% crit chance and 100% crit damage gains theoretical +16% damage. What ever xD Just theory.
But fact is the aa is about 50% damage yes, but how many will you do of those? It’s not like you are going for staff only. I’d prefer a Sword Sword + Staff combo, depending on enemies.

You can knock them back 600 range with a long cd. Also there are tons of small rooms where no long range is possible. In groups you have to melee enemies for the additional boons you get. GS is a very situational weapon, it’s not made for the “all the time” usage.
I run GS and sword/focus all the time, no other weapon switching takes place (use of staff, etc., nothing other than GS and sword/focus), there is nothing in WvW and PvE that I cannot handle with those two weapon sets, nothing.
You also can run scepter/torch and handle everything. Probably even easier but it takes hours to do it. Except the sword, the mesmer has no “allways useful” weapons. If I see somone using the GS in caudecus villa in all those small rooms, I’m like “… seriously?”

GS is not pointless – it’s exactly the opposite – a giant lazorpointer. Its good for trashmobs and tagging.

I find focus pretty overrated for open world stuff because well… maybe i’m just unlucky but even placing the warden well, either it dies to some spam aoe (not exactly few of those in the tower for example) or people run mobs away from it.

Agreed. The illusion trait is only for damage and that’s why I don’t like it. Duelling and Inspiration are much more adaptable. Mantara damage is pretty noticable, I just did not like to use mantras if I had it :/
Inspiration 25 is damage, 30 is utility. Not compareable imo. However I like to spend the points in inspiration over illusion.
And yea, there are more dead NPC’s than you think. You’ll notice them when you start to use them. One can tell me how bad this trait is – I can’t tell you how many times it saved my kitten .

Nah, you want sword/focus. The second stage form of it spews projectiles everywhere, and I think the third stage form does too. You can kill it incredibly fast with reflects.
Talking about S/S + S/F
Healing mantras aren’t bad, you should test them with MoP then against something useful like Alpha. They can be very very useful and a HpS of 600-3000 (depending on allies affected) is really not ignorable.
Medic’s feedback works aswell on NPC’s And 60%-80% reflection actually is really kitten.
If you don’t run with “lousy” PUG’s thats pretty good for you but I’m just playing with one RL friend and that’s why I prefer a situational build. Seems to be just a different world where some builds are personal better than others. I mean you could reach +26.44% damage wich is really kitten.
Do you just swap out your second S/x combination out for the staff or do you also alter your traits (e.g. for shorter staff cooldowns)? Currently I’m running 0/20/0/25/25.

They said they will create new weapons for new skills and more traits aswell. When this is gonna happen? Noone knows. But i doubt that they simply will take current weapons and give them to other classes. There are more weapons like whips, fans, flays or … 2h shield? xD
I now used my zerker focus due the fact that I literally was posting a thread that asks for two weapons wich have compared to each other just +1.5% crit chance silly me xD How could this matter :P

I’ll be honest – I just overflow everything and have to say: Both → Staff against serious threat and bossfights and gs for trahsmobs.
30 inspiration > 30 duelling due the fact that damage is < utility. Inspiration trait skills are the best we have, they grant massive stronger effects. +4% damage for you per charged mantra is meh, due you try to avoid to use them and have to pick a semigood healskill or just stay there without inspiration sigill or timewarp wich leaves you with +4% damage … wow.
+2 sec glamour dura or -20% cdr brings you probably more “DpS” from reflection. Also medics feedback is a must have in every reflection dungeon, became really strong last patch. And underestimating healing mantras is a big mistake too.
The whole inspiration traitline won’t force you to use XY, they can adapt perfectly to the situation. Duelling can’t. That’s why inspiration traits are so awesome.
Talking about PvE – and it’s just my opinion.
Why would it be op? The clone charges anyway as fast as a direct spawn unless it bugs. The stunbreaker can be activated at anytime too. There won’t be a big difference.
Btw fun fact for multiple cribble: Ever clone created with sword3 will charge the target marked while using sword3, even old ones They jump about 1200 range xD try it against dummies in lion arch

Makes sense for the battle sigil, but to be honest I personally prefer to get a stack for bloodlust in both sets (A+B / A+C) → A has the bloodlust. After it’s filled I can switch A Bloodlust with something else.
To the common “we hate or we love GS”-comments – GS is a totally situational weapon, like every weapon the mesmer carries. There is just the sword MH that can be used almost all the time. Every other weapon should be used adapted to the situation… Nothing beats the GS against trash mobs, aswell nothing beats the Staff against boss mobs and nothing beats the pistol/sword OH against veterans or elites in dungeons.

I would simply go full zerker, since the jelly itself won’t oneshot you if it devours you. Just get some battle sigils for inspiration. It’s the best in general. Or energy – energy is cool too
The problem is that you benefit less from condition damage than from power.
Lets say you got a skill that deals 900 direct damage and 1800 bleeding (5 stacks for 8 sec). Would you go zerker, rampager or malice?
You now have 1000 power and 0 condition damage. Choose one:
