Xystus Furtim – Human Theif
Server: Stormbluff Ilse
The school may not be limiting her connection. But depending on size and how they are setup, when you throw several hundred people onto, what is basically, the same connection; it can cause a lot of issues.
I am going to assume she is living in campus housing? How many people are in her dorm?
Also, are all the ports allowed through the campus firewall?
As for the “gifts”. Was it a full year from when you created your account?
Also try :
pathping.exe -w 500 -q 100 -4 ipaddress
What error message # is it?
Also, when you are logged in, type “/ip” in the chat window. That will give you the IP address of the server you are on.
Open up a command prompt on your system and type in “tracert ipaddress” and see if there is something along the way that either times out or jumps very high in the latency.
I believe you can turn on/off different merchants under the main map menu. Click M and in the bottom left is an “eye” icon. Click that and make sure it is all checked.
Try deleting your local.dat file under C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\ before starting the game.
ArJhay, Looking at the traceroute portions; it looks like your router is blocking connections outbound to prevent you from downloading the needed files.
(edited by Xystus.3241)
Some starting points. If you happen to get ingame, type in /ip
This will give you the IP address of the server you are connected to. Next, open up a command prompt. Start > type in either “powershell” or “cmd” and a text command window should open. Then type in “tracert ip”, where ip is the address the game gave you. Then post the results.
Not a chance.
Here are the requirements: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Running_the_game
Basically need a better processor and a dedicated graphics card. The onboard shares memory with your system; so it doesn’t have a dedicated 1.7GB.
Obal, you’re insane!
For dungeoning (specifically fractals): I recommend this – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guardian-Video-Guide-for-Fractals-Shown-at-48/first#post2567402
I wouldn’t say P2 is “hard” just unnecessarily long.
What most people don’t realize is the change that happened from Windows XP and now(Vista/7/8). Several layers were added to protect the kernel and the hardware. An application like GW2 cannot directly access hardware. This was first seen when Vista was released and numerous vendors were scrambling to write new drivers.
Since GW2 cannot directly effect the hardware; what has changed? Why is it more taxing on your GPU? Are they taking advantage of a feature that wasn’t used before? Is this causing a fault in the hardware or how the current drivers interact with the card?
The OP has a G50VT, which is an older laptop. 2009ish? I had G50VT from best buy. The hardware is pretty good; but the cooling is awful. I always had to play with a cooling mat. The system vents out the side, under the left hand with a fan that is way to underpowered.
tota is correct. Try turning off the overclocking and see if that helps.
Basically, that error is stating your computer does not have enough power to run and shuts down.
I would try re-installing the latest (non-beta) drivers for your GPU. Also, are you doing any overclocking?
Here is Microsoft page on this error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504#method3 I would take a look at “Scenario 3: The system randomly restarts and no Stop error BugcheckCode is listed, or the computer is completely unresponsive (hard hang)”

The whole infrastructure went under maintenance; which should have ended by now. At the time of your post; it still may not have been up.
Have you launched the game with the -repair option?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
Please follow that and attach the log. Also, attach your crash log located under C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\
Have you tried running the game with the “-repair” option
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
Also, delete your local.dat file located in your C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Guild Wars 2 folder.
Vagrant,
The game does not have the access to the kernel to cause shutdowns like that. Does your Windows event log say anything? Have you updated your drivers recently?
Lillie,
One more thing. I see you run Spybot. Spybot has the option of using a “hosts” file. I would use their tool to add the Spybot hosts file. It will block a TON of bad stuff that is known.
We Americans use weird date formats.
The dates are August 5th, not May 8th
When: 2013-08-05T11:44:33Z 2013-08-05T13:44:33+02:00
Year – Month – Day: Time in Zulu Year – Month – Day: Time in local
Try deleting C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\local.dat file
Run the game
Lillie,
Looking over your report; it seems there maybe something strange going on.
FastFreeConverterUpdt.exe, C:\Program Files (x86)\Fast Free Converter\FastFreeConverterUpdt.exe
is flagged as malware. This maybe causing issues. As well; WildTangent is installed. IMHO, their games are crap, their software runs like crap and there maybe privacy issues with their software. I would advise uninstalling it.
I’ve used other overlays before; none that touched GW2 client or interacted with it in any way; those seem to be fine.
I believe last words were that it’s very, very soon as in this next patch, the one after it, or the one after that. No actual verbal confirmation on which patch, though.
Or the one after that?
Obal, for Infusions:
Power vs Critical?
It ends up being 20 Power vs 1% to Critical Hit.
For DPS; I follow Obal’s recommendations:
You end up with a higher critical chance (69% and 89% w/fury) at a higher critical damage(87%). Most dungeons are night time, so bring Sigil of Night for 10% increased damage; otherwise Force.
I use it; mostly for the AOE Heal, not damage. If during combat I wish to stack the might (Skill #4 “Empower”). I’ll swap to staff; hit #2, #3, detonate #2(depends on distance, may detonate before #3), #4, swap weapon.
Simply put:
PVE – DPS – Full Zerker
PVE – Anchoring – Knights Armor/Weapon, Zerker trinkets.
Nothing is done to check the length of the input in the Full-Screen Gamma value under graphical settings.
To many numbers will cause the game to crash.
Does it actually give you a disconnect error(7.####,14.####,etc)?
Like SkyChef said, I’ve seen that before. Normally a quick relog fixes it.
One more thing Obal,
What food do you use?
Normally on DPS build I use Squash Soup (Crit/Crit Damage).
The guy also tried to melee Bloomhunger…….. We picked him up after we killed it.
o_O; Do people not melee Bloomhunger? I find him a bit easier to fight in melee range.
I melee all the time.
Just because its level 35, doesn’t mean it is easy.
In all honesty, I think its easier than before. Mobs health has been cut by a good portion and a lot of breeders are removed from the encounters to prevent being overwhelmed early on.
The problem arises when people don’t know their class and don’t know how to communicate.
By 35, you should have a pretty good handle on your class. That just leaves you with the learning the counters; which takes communication and the willingness to learn.
No problem. Glad it was a simple fix
Full Beserker Armor and Ascended trinkets with Scholar runes.
(edited by Xystus.3241)
There is an option to turn those markers off. Did you turn them off?
I tried that very shortly. Wasn’t impressed.
This is for PVE only:
Trinkets: Zerker
Armor (the only anchor): kngihts
Amor (doing anything else): zerker.
I’ve been following Obal’s recommendations here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guardian-Video-Guide-for-Fractals-Shown-at-48
The links to the builds don’t work, but if you google the build names, you’ll find the youtube videos.
Here is an older post of mine:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Xystus-3241/showposts
I now have the following Armor sets(trinkets are all zerker)
Prefix / Runed
——————————-
Knights / Soldier
Soldier / Soldier
Berserker / Scholar
Berserker / Divinity
Berserker / 2x S Water, 2x M Monk, 2x S Monk (Boon Duration)
My weapon sets now follow Obal’s post, with an extra GS with Fire just for fun.
I’ve been following this for FOTM:
Which follows with what I’ve been saying mostly. Zerker everything, except when you need the extra toughness, switch to knights armor.
Obal,
Thanks for the information. I have a mic and TS/Vent/C3/Skype/Mumble all setup.
Obal,
Great write-up. Giving me some things to think about. Also if you need a guard for 48, let me know. I’ve done it several times and would like a group to run with.
Here are a few questions:
Why Force/Night/Acc over Fire?
Same on Sanctum of Rall. Making an event longer doesn’t equate to more difficult, if that’s what Arenanet was going for. It’s just bloody annoying.
EDIT: 30 mins 47 seconds to kill the Claw. Ridiculous.
Time to kill does not match quality of loot.
Realm: Stormbluff Isle
Time: ~9pm EST
We ended Phase 1 (Break the Wall) with Jormag at 40% health.
Phase 2 (No Wings), instead of spawning at 50% health, he was at 100%.
I did not see anything in the patch notes with this change.

Azrexx,
The game saves the settings in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Guild Wars 2
Start by deleting the file “local.dat” When you start your game and login (at character selection screen) Goto the video tab and where it gives you a “Settings Preset” or something close to that, choose “best appearance”.
What I’m guessing, the option may have last been set as “Auto Detect” and some reason is setting the graphics to low.
Your “ugly” graphics is not from the card or drivers displaying properly, but the game being set to “low”.
Have you done anything to fix the issue?
Update Windows?
Update Video Drivers?
Any tweaks/changes?
GW2 can be demanding at times. Best thing to do is buy a cooling pad to put the laptop on. Heat will always be an issue with laptops; always keep some compressed air handy to clean out the vents.
Also, never place the laptop on any soft surfaces (like your bed). The sheets/blankets can easily block air intake vents and lead to overheating.
Look at something like this for a cooling pad.

I have owned ASUS in the past, while it got hot, never had a issue with overheating. My last one was an ASUS G50vt and it was a trooper. I recently bought a Sager and spec’ed it out to be on the higher end of gaming laptops. I believe ASUS uses a similar case design as this (2 rear vent ports) and it does a good job of keeping it cool.
Deleted the one file: C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Guild Wars2\Local.dat
I did that and was able to get back in.
Update2: Seems to work occasionally
(edited by Xystus.3241)
Yes. Shouldn’t be an issue. Max out at 60+fps all the time; maybe not. I would recommend also upgrading to 8GB of RAM. Generally ASUS has put the extra RAM slot under the keyboard, if it is not along side the other piece of ram. Either way, it usually isn’t a big deal.
I’ve been gaming on Laptops since 2008; the portability is nice as I can travel quiet a bit during the year.
