Path 1 is actually easier and quicker. A good group can spend around 10 minutes completing it.

You maybe right. There is a lot of NPC dialog in 2 plus setting up the traps. Still say 2 is easier, however.

Are you using the EU or US servers?

WvW and PvE are really separate and you won’t find something that works well at both.

With these builds, you’ll just have to change the traits, not respec. You will have to carry two sets of gear.

Eventually switch all your gear out for Beserkers/Scholar runes. I would recommend looking at Obal’s guide for 48 fractals.

Always shelter for heal and renewed focus for your elite.

Should be just a simple click and drag. Try clicking on the right border where the buttons are, but not on a button.

You may need to contact your college IT support. They maybe only proxying web traffic and might not support the GW2 client.

You can change gw2 to use port 80 (should be unlocked when you sign in on your browser).

Just because other things work fine, doesn’t mean there isn’t a problem.

Can you provide a bit more information.

How are you connected to the internet? Personal connection or some type of campus network? What type of router do you have? Are you playing wirelessly?

How do you connect to the internet? Cable/DSL, modems/routers used, personal connection/campus network? Are you in the USA or outside the USA?

Can you post the crash log? (attach it, don’t copy/paste it)

Try this:

Delete the folder “C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\Screens”

This should create the “Screens” folder as a junction and all images directed to another area.

It’s always been “C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\” for me. I’ve played since the pre-release.

I started having this problem in a win7 64 bit desktop moderate gaming rig after the last patch also. I mostly wvw and that’s when I have the problem. It might be a half hour in, or 3 hours in but my computer just shuts off, no reboot or anything. Everything else runs fine, even other games. I’ve cleaned everything up and did a fresh install of gw2 and it hasn’t fixed it.

Shutting down is a good indicator that your power supply is failing – provided that this isn’t a temperature issue.

He is correct. The game or any other application since Vista cannot “shut down” a system. The Windows Operating System is structured that the applications cannot interact cause these issues.

If you look in your Windows Event Viewer, under the System Tab, you should see an error about lose of power.

It has an internal cooldown of 5 seconds. Best case scenario, that’s an extra ~1000 damage every 5 seconds. However, since it is a 30% off a critical hit; it’s not as reliable.

Let’s say you have 60% to critical, which is doable for guards. Out of 100 attacks, 60 will be critical. Out of that 60, only 18 will activate air.

Let’s assuming you’re using greatsword #1 auto-attack only. Its #1 is .5 seconds per hit. 2 hits per second. To get those 100 attacks in, it will be 50 seconds. With the internal cooldown, you’ll only be able to activate it 10 times. Again, this is best case.

Whereas Force is just a straight 5% damage every hit.

This is where it really sucks: mobs and other objects you can’t critical. Going against something like Tequatl, it will never activate.

Server side lag seems to have gone down with the maintenance. Our Tequatl timers are no longer lagging.

Coming from SEA; round trip latency of 250-350ms would be considered best case scenario. You just cannot make light travel any faster. However, you don’t have a direct fiber line, so you can easily add on quiet a bit more latency.

My normal Tequatl killing group has a player from India and his ping is still under 350 and he hasn’t had any further lag.

Windows 7 code doesn’t care if its 32/64 bit. As long as you have a 64-bit install method, your windows 7 code should work.

That said, i dont know what ur current PC specs are so i cant say if it will be an improvment or not.

That Laptop only has a 740m card, which means its not even within the gaming range of cards. If ur goign into the 700 series cards u want a 760m atleast. Im not saying GW2 wont run with a 740m, it just wont be able to run on very hgih settings or resolutions. GW2 isnt particularly graphicaly intensive so it would be ok, but other games that are, would suffer.

EDIT: that particular laptop also looks very thin, it would likely have cooling issues with extended high load. Though i cant say for sure.

Runs just fine on mine, but I did spend a good amount on it. I did a customized Sager Notebook based off their 9150 line last year.

Its a 3rd Gen i7(don’t remember the number) and a nVidia GTX 675m.

Cooling is paramount; I like the sager design (2 rear vents and hitting Fn+1 sends both fans to 100% power).

SolarNova.1052 is correct. Since Windows Vista, the operating system itself is protecting the hardware from applications and drivers. Applications have to interact with the OS to get to the drivers and the drives must use the Hardware Abstraction Layer and cannot directly talk to the hardware.

It is strange that it is appearing only in GW2, however the Operating system should be protecting the hardware.

There is no “level” chat. The chat you are looking for is “map” chat.

That is very true. I used to carry around a 17" and it wasn’t as fun :P I have a 15.6" and that is better. However, my work laptop got upped to a 17" from a 14". I used to be able to drag both with me. Not as easy as it used to be.

i5 with 8g would be fine. Integrated, no. The game will require a dedicated gfx card. Intel for the CPU, nVidia for the GPU.

I would stay away from AMD. Their company is in the pits and they are pulling a lot of money out of the PC/Server market. Their are hanging on by mobile devices and the contracts to supply CPU/GPUs for console systems.

Either go with a referb or openbox to save money. I would perfer a referb over open box.

Also, I would stay away from Acer/Gateway/PackardBell/eMachines. They are all owned by the Acer Group and make crap products. By far, the majority of PCs I help people fix belong to that line.

Please ensure you are running the game with administrator privileges. The error is basically saying it does not have access to the files.

Also, check that the files are not set as “Read Only”.

No problem. Honestly, as long as you are plugged in to an AC connection, push it to power4gear High Performance.

They did transition to a new ticketing system; you may have been caught up in between the move. All tickets have to be created in the new system. I would submit another ticket.

As for not being able to buy; I would recommend trying this.

1) Close the game
2) Click Start
3) Type in

The awesomium process, which connects the game to web applications creates temporary files in this location that the processes uses. Maybe one of the files are corrupt or outdated.

Just click the + icon and choose what messages you wish to receive.

Through their ticketing system? Ingame? What issue?

Same problem here. Yesterday I dced 10-11 times in 2 hours. I even reinstalled game today but problem is still existing.

Just because the error code is the same, doesn’t mean its the same problem. Please give specifics and not just say “me too!”. That isn’t helpful.

Just thinking… what power setting do you have your laptop on? Battery Saving/Balanced/High Performance?

Are you at the latest nVidia drivers?

It sounds like a throttling of the CPU/GPU, but temps don’t see to be an issue.

I don’t have a brand preference as long as its a reliable laptop. I will look into some of the brands and gpu’s sugested. Has anyone had experience with MSI?

Stay away from MSI and Asus branded laptops. They work great for the first year, but tend to die from Heat issues (My Brother in-laws MSI laptop went belly up after 14months).

Lenovo AKA IBM, I put them on Par with MAC hardware. You pay for what you get here, if you know how to dig through the hardware bin (know how to spec and customize your Laptop/Desktop)

Dell – Ive used Dell since 1999 and never had an issue. Again, I only use the precision line of their products.

HP – Deal Bin Manufacturer :-) – These all have heat transfer issues that usually break the laptop after 8-14 months of use. Black Video, Missing Wireless cards…ect. You can fix them by oven baking the Motherboard on 375Degrees for 25mins (Wrapped in Tin foil, exposing your Chips that need ‘re-flowed’). I would NOT buy a HP for more then 400 Shipped in most cases, unless there was a 2-3 year warranty on it. Other then that, they are nice laptops for the money. I still use my DV6’s for playing Games (yes even GuildWars2) and they handle what I expect out of them just fine.

Sager/MSI/ASUS – These are going to be a hit and miss. Sager is the top dog in this list, but even with them you can run into heat issues (they compact very high end Technology in their notebooks and don’t account for proper ventilation/Cooling). MSI and ASUS are just as bad, but tend to have GPU issues down the road (such as dead/fried from heat GPUS). Read TON of reviews on these guys before you consider a model. newegg/cnet for reviews are your friends here.

Dell = ASUS, fyi.

ASUS makes all of Dell’s computers; just not the branding on the case.

Make sure you are in “fullscreen” and not “Windowed(Fullscreen)”. Any Windowed mode will use your Desktop gamma.

Someone mentioned Sager and someone mentioned Lenovo, both would be safe bets in my book as far as companies go. For this game just make sure to look at Intel offerings, not AMD.

5400 can be slow, but it works fine. It just means that stuff will load a bit worse; far from unlivable. Not to mention the fact that it’s going to be kitten hard to find a 7200 RPM HDD in a laptop for any sort of reasonable budget.

TC, I’d say to get a Lenovo Y510P. Either the $800 model or the $950 model will work fine, the biggest difference being that the $950 model has a 1080P screen where the $800 only has 1366×768. I have a pair of friends with this laptop, one with each model, and it works fine. The one with the 1366×768 screen says that he runs on medium settings in WvW, and it’s decent enough framerate wise. The other one hasn’t done WvW yet, but he’s been doing PvE on high without issues (besides bigger world boss groups).

I’ve got the full zerk setup now and find a lot of deaths happening now usually from condi as groups tend to lack condi removal. I do die from missing a dodge as I’m still learning whats to be avoided on bosses I haven’t fought often enough.

I have another question which is what build do you suggest when running fotm with pugs? is it better to have a tanky setup for these groups and any suggestions.

PS I did try a S/F build but found myself dying a lot in pugs so switched to a 10/15/0/25/20 and find I survive longer but condi’s >_<

I find hammer guard the most useful for high fractals. Run 15/15/0/20/20. The traited virtue and purging flames should be enough removal. Perma prot will make it more forgiving for you and your group. You will also have access to ring of warding and staff line of warding on swap (start out as this then immediately swap after line) for ccing mobs at los spots so they won’t do anything to you for a bit while you put down prot fields and blind them with virtue. Use greatsword on swap if you need to group stuff up instead.

Hello Obal I am using your build from youtube with the 5 point modification I mentioned(thinking about it now it might have been a poor change since vulnerability would be 5 people getting bonus x%). It does great damage and the perma prot is helpful in keeping myself alive & other melee(I try and avoid joining groups with2-3 ranged). I just bought myself a zerk staff w/perception tonight as it was only weapon I didn’t have in my bags. Every other weapon has sigil of nights except for my shield which i have sigil of generosity & focus with sigil of force.

Thank you everyone for helping me out Like I mentioned I’m completely new at fractals and today have finally reached personal lvl 12. I’ve seen most of the fights now although some of them I’m still not sure for timing to drop reflection or when to swap out to hallowed ground but ‘m sure that’ll come as I see the fights more(It’s difficult to see some fights as pug groups restart until then find easy fight to start with).

I’ve been following Obal for a while now. He’s been very helpful and I’ve improved a ton over the past few months. Still nowhere near the DnT craziness :P

I find when pugging 48s, yes I PUG 48s, depending on the group, I’ll mix in some Knights. This is mostly while doing trash to survive a extra hit or two. This makes up for less group DPS, but not that much. When I run with some of his cohorts, I go full zerker and do just fine.

32-bit systems have limits on memory that is cleared up in 64-bit systems. Windows 32-bit limits processes to a max of ~2GB of memory to use. This can easily be reached when running settings at high, not limiting the culling. Going to 64-bit, it allows up to ~3.2GB of memory per process.

Also, try changing your language settings and then change it back. I heard this sometimes clears up the problem.

I bought myself a Sager Notebook; these are designed for gaming. I would recommend their current 8200 series (15.6" screen; lighter and more portable, especially while going through an airport). However, you are looking closer to the 1200-1800+ range.

1) Ensure your firewalls/routers are setup to allow the ports the game requires
2) Have a stable internet connection all the way to the game server

Where are you coming from? What server are you playing on? What type of internet connection do you use? Are you playing wireless through some sort of WiFi?

I’ve been gaming on taptops since 2008. Its nice for portability/traveling, but also is costly. Cheap laptops will not cut it.

Looking at your specs, 2 things I would point out.

1) “AMD Radeon HD 8650G graphics with up to 6252MB total graphics memory” indicates this is most likely an integrated card. This means the “up to 6252MB”)6GB) of memory is actually shared with your system’s 12GB of memory. You really want a card with dedicated memory.

2) “1TB 5400RPM”; slow as heck. Get at least 7200RPM or preferably kitten.

Without a full crash log (please attach it, don’t post it) its hard to tell what the exception is. c00000005 is such a generic error. It could be as simple as making sure the game is running with administrator privileges.

It appears to be a permissions issue. Try running the game with administrator privileges. Right click on the short cut; go to the comparability tab, at the bottom check the “run as administrator” (or something close to that).

How “full” is your primary drive. A lot of programs uses the temp folders located on your main drive.

May want to clear your temp folders as well and then try.
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Windows\Temp

Also, open “My Computer”/“Computer”, right click on your C: drive, goto properties. Click “Disk Cleanup”, when the new window opens choose Clean Up System Files". Check everything and hit OK.

I would also recommend using a program like CCleaner to help free up space.
