The fact you say its “quiet” seems wrong. While it may feel cool to touch, doesn’t mean the CPU and GPU are being throttle to prevent overheating.
I would recommend HW Monitor from CPUID http://www.cpuid.com/ and watch your temps.
It’s hard to compare game to game; as the engines that run the games are different. Because of this, they interact differently.
GW2 worked just fine until 2 days ago.
Now i crash after 2-4 min in game, sometimes the screen goes black and
sometime it goes back to windows screen and i can hear the game in the background
the computer is locked up.Im far from a computer wiz but would be greatful if anyone could help me.
Have you done any of the following?
1) Used the “-repair” option?
2) Deleted the local.dat file?
3) Updated Video drivers?
Not 100% sure Private shows correct usage. Private is the amount of memory that is not shared by other processes. WorkingSet is Private + other memory that can be shared. Working should be > Private.
Please be aware; applications since Vista CANNOT cause Bluescreens. The Windows Operating System was built with several layers of protection to prevent this. The game cannot directly talk to the drivers and the drivers must interact with the hardware abstraction layer.
While the game maybe triggering something, its most likely an underlying problem in Drivers or Hardware.
The dmp file will give better data as to what is causing the issue.
You need to turn down your graphic settings. Culling was removed a few months ago, which causes more loading of data.
OOM = Out of Memory.
This is mainly because you are on a 32-bit windows setup.
Physical: 1009MB/ 3062MB (Going to assume your system comes with 4GB of memory)
Your memory available to applications is just over 3GB; Windows is limiting the Process to to a total of:
PeakWorkingSet: 1551MB
Which during WvW or Large events can easily be passed.
Overall, I would recommend reinstalling your OS as 64-bit; therefore you can better address those 4 GB. Even further, I would recommend upgrading to at least 8GB of memory.
Jurica,
If it is an nVidia chipset; you can goto nvidia.com and do an autodetect for make/model.
You may want to look at a program like ccleaner; or another register/module cleaner.
Maybe just corrupted files then. You can go in to the temp folder and just delete everything there. It gets re-created anyway.
Could you post your entire crash log; after a crash caused by the auto detect/close window?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Hotkey-error-since-29-10-patch/first#post3121356
here is the thread. It was with Tuesday’s patch.
Yes, it was with one of the more recent patches. Hopefully it is soon.
VerifyAccess failed or denied access with 0×80070716 – 1
Make sure you are running the game with administrator privileges.
Vashoom.8512,
Here is the error: “Disk write failed with error 112”
Make sure you are running the game as administrator privileges.
Also, I would recommend not using as the administrator account.
If you continue to have these errors, you may want to perform a disk check, as you may have a failing hard drive.
I would generally agree with abomally.2694. However, brands can make a difference.
This is from personal experience; I’ve been a fan of Netgear for a while now. I use Netgear for my home and I recommend it for anyone I help put together a wireless solution. D-links have been hit or miss for me in the past. I would still rate them good. Belkins are just no. I’ve experienced to many issues; including poor signal strength and poor quality of construction.
I would recommend a router that broadcasts 802.11n @ 5GHz. 5GHz band has less interference from other technology. Therefore, it should give you a better signal.
If you have some older gear that cannot work at 5GHz, I would recommend a dual band wireless router. Just about all modern ones are all dual band and have been for a while. You can broadcast 802.11g @ 2.4ghz and 802.11n @ 5ghz.
Something like the Netgear Nighthawk R700 supports *UP TO* 1300Mbps on wireless. Honestly, you don’t need for gaming. You’ll still be limited by the speed of your internet connection; which is generally 15Mbps. Unless you need greater speed for streaming media across your house, a general 300Mbps will be more than enough.
Here is a list of Netgear’s offering:
http://www.netgear.com/images/NG_WirelessRouterComparisonGuide24Sept1318-44305.pdf
I use a WNDR3400 and it works great.
If I were to upgrade, it would really be for other features; not “speed”.
Jurica,
You probably won’t notice a performance difference, but your process should have more memory available to it; which should result in less out of memory errors.
If you are still getting OOM errors, post your ArenaNet.log file and we can help you further.
While the mods do appear here from time to time; forums are generally for community involvement. If you need a more immediate response, you should contact their support directly.
The shortcut is
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\
There is a bug with modifier keys + mouse. ANET is aware and is working to fix it.
I use “send crash log” button. Why do you even ask ppl to attach those?
A) The community doesn’t have access to it; they may provide some help
B) That most likely goes into some data processing services and not directly to the help folks. Its a lot quicker for you to attach it again, then for someone to weed through a ton of generated reports to find the exact one.
Nope.
Type in “/ip” to get the IP of the server. Then you can ping out of the game.
Don’t expect ping to always work either. Timeout may indicate that the protocol is not allowed, not necessarily network issues.
I prefer using tracert our pingpath to get a bit more detail.
I agree with Tink. Those temps are way to hot. Normally I run 50-70C range.
Got same problem.Been playing without any problems for almost year and suddenly got dc today and same error code 42:1000:7006:892.Cant log in….
Internet connection 16mp(down)/2mb(up).Pings under 50.
Everything works like dream just not guild wars 2….
Same error code, yes; same problem, no. Start a new thread please.
Varyenfell,
You have some oddness. Originally, it appears your system was trying to use the on board graphics card and that was causing some issues. Then its given reference errors to the memory on your nVidia card.
I would recommend a clean install of the video card drivers.
MijMorgs.4702 & Lord Jesse.6103,
Yours maybe a different issue.
I would recommend following the instructions located here: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
to run the game with the “-repair” option.
Click start, and then type in
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\
You should see a file called “local.dat”. Delete that and try to re-launch. That file contains the settings for your system, including display settings. I would guess it got corrupted.
It’s not a file that gets uninstalled/reinstalled and its perfectly safe to delete.
The fact that you are in a hotel, it works doing the morning and not in the evening(majority of people are back in their rooms and not out doing business or sight seeing); leads me to believe its a hotel connection issue. The game requires a bit more bandwidth than just browsing websites. Depending on how they have their network setup, it maybe limiting connections during peak hours.
Yep, my memory is exactly 3GB . I understand nothing of computers, but the GC has its own memory, shouldn’t be sufficient to play? In any case all my graphic settings are medium-low, I’ll try to lower everything, even if play with these settings could be really bad…
Nope. That is different pool of memory that is used in a different way.
Maybe a bandwidth limitation set by the hotel. You may want to ask their IT department about playing video games over their connection.
Try deleting your local.dat file located under
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\
that file usually contains the preferences maybe something is corrupted.
The game itself(as most applications) are actually 32bit applications running on 64bit operating systems.
—> Process Memory <—
Private: 3118MB (memory used, but can include what is in the page file)
WorkingSet: 3045MB (allocated)
PeakWorkingSet: 3045MB (max allocated)
PageFaults: 67316255
It maybe trying to push everything into physical memory; which is more than windows is allocating.
Normally, I run on “Auto-detect” and rarely go that high. Usually in the 1500MB range. Something maybe causing a leak under certain conditions.
This is a limit based on 32-bit applications, not what you physically have available.
OOM: arena=Default, cat=Gr Texture, allocBytes=4162804, arenaBytes=279785264, fallbackBytes=18186980, align=0
This basically means your are “Out of Memory”.
How much physical memory do you have on your system? You are using Windows 32bit and therefore are limited in to ~3GB worth of memory. Windows will then allocate even less for processes.
Process Memory <—*
Private: 1673MB
WorkingSet: 1561MB
PeakWorkingSet: 1561MB
PageFaults: 1259527 (ignore the word “fault”; doesn’t mean anything bag)
I can’t remember the exact meaning of each. But I would try lowering some of your graphics settings as they may be requiring more memory than you are being allowed to use.
Try a -repair first.
Bumping this. The issue is still not resolved and I have seen other similar threads pop up.
Have you run the game with the -repair option and deleted your local.dat file?
Novability.4718,
I asked for a crash log a while ago and you never responded. It can be found under
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\ArenaNet.log
Might help figure out why you are crashing.
It’s on auto-detect. And that graphics card should have no trouble with the settings in this game.
For those specific things you listed, the settings are All and High
Its not an issue with the card, but with the processes. It is a 32-bit processes and is hitting a cap. Lowering some of the settings will use less memory.
That is still an old crash log(Date is 11Sep13)
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\
is where the logs should be. Make sure when typing that into the search bar you include the % signs.
The crashing is caused by the process running out of memory. Not sure what is causing that; however, seems this can happen if the graphic settings are maxed out.
Try changing reflections to “Terrain and Sky” and the WvW settings to “Medium” and see if that helps. Or you can just use the dropdown and choose “Auto detect” and see if that prevents crashing.
If it doesn’t, please list what your settings are for that.
The post you had is very outdated. The date in January 31, 2013. The latest crash is always at the bottom of the file. They recently moved the file to APPDATA\Guild Wars 2\
I went to do fire elemental with a couple of my friends, we were all level 80 and had 2 ranged and 2 tanks. When we got there, there were about 3-5 other people that were above the level needed (15). WE ALL DIED!!!!! Wtf, now apparently the Fire Elemental has been buffed to kitten. When we tried to go across the bridge back in we got annihilated by its tornadoes that it spawned OUTSIDE of the area. Ya that’s right, it spawned tornadoes on the other side of the bridge where it was “safe” before.
*We did finish it, the reward was garbage
FIX THIS OP BOSS
I do not mean to belittle you, but it appears you maybe fairly new to this game and may not understand some of the mechanics.
1) The game auto levels. You maybe 80, you maybe a well geared level 80. However, at the Fire Elemental, you are leveled down to 15. Maybe a top end geared level 15, but still level 15. According to your statement, you had upwards of nine level 15 players attempting the encounter. That in and of itself is kind of low.
2) Tanks don’t exist in this game. If you are having people try and facetank FE or other stuff, you’re fighting a losing battle.
3) All rewards are garbage. You can craft, buy or earn your exotic gear through a ton of different methods.
You salvage the rares for Ectoplasm and combine the major sigils in the forge for a chance at higher level sigils that sell really well.
Like others have said, stay ranged. Every class has access to ranged weapons, stun breakers and ways to regenerate health.
Yeah.. I’m using x86 Windows.. Why would that be the issue? As far as I’m aware x86 is better for gaming than x64? I haven’t been online today so I haven’t but I get crash logs often, but I don’t really send them out or look at them.. Cheers!
I would say the exact opposite. Windows 32-bit can only address about ~3.5GB of ram. Which once you take the system overhead in account, you maybe stuck with closer to ~3GB usable. if your system has 4+GB of memory, you’re not even using it.
If you could attach the GW2 crash log,it may help pinpoint the issue.
Have you been able to get a crash log?
Ok, just finished the download while running as an administrator. I logged in just fine even though it took a little bit longer than normal.
Now I just hope it works fine normally and if I have to run it as an administrator every time instead, I hope I don’t have to do that massive download each time
That would be normal the first time, as it then generates the local.dat file. Further loads should be a bit faster.
The game can’t do anything to affect routers or access points. The data is generated and passed down the stack where the data is formatted. Honestly sounds like you need to update your drivers for the wireless card on your laptop.
I would suggest running at least the Windows Memory tool next:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/diagnosing-memory-problems-on-your-computer
Fatal Error: Fatal disk-error (23) on write,
That is not good. I would do a check disk; may have a failing hard disk.
Open “computer” and right click on “C:” drive and choose “properties”. Under the tools tab there is a button “Check now”. Click that and run the disk check.
I tried to do that but cannot, I only have a C drive and D (disk drive) and when I try to preform that action it says it’s in use and if I would like to “schedule” it but when I click to it just disappears and nothing happens.
I was going to just restore my computer to factory settings but im unsure how, there is no f11 option at start up and using windows 7 CD saves my files and reboots the platform, I assume I need to “format” my C drive to turn it back to factory settings but just like above when I try to do it, it says it’s in use and nothing happens….
Clueless how to solve this.
If it asks to schedule, click ok. It will do a disk check on next reboot.
Fatal Error: Fatal disk-error (23) on write,
That is not good. I would do a check disk; may have a failing hard disk.
Open “computer” and right click on “C:” drive and choose “properties”. Under the tools tab there is a button “Check now”. Click that and run the disk check.
Exception: c0000005
That error is such a generic windows error; it will be hard to pinpoint. The error basically means “I tried to do something, but couldn’t do it or didn’t have permissions and I am not going to tell you why”.
Please do the following and try the game out.
1) delete your local.dat file
-click start
-type in
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2
-delete the file
2) run a repair of the game
Follow this link to run the game with the -repair option
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
3) Verify your operating system files:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm
4) check the file system for errors using the command “chkdsk /f C:”
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ee872425.aspx
In your start search box type in
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2
and delete the file local.dat
Try again and let me know.
I have this issue as well, it usually happens at times of intense combat, most often in WvW and PVE big zergs.
Meanwhile, another person playing the game in the same apartment never has this problem due to being connected with a cable, apparently. OR something else.
Wireless routers can be a bit of an issue with game. Sometimes they work fine, other times they can act flaky when you have a lot of traffic.
If you can, trying playing plugged in with an Ethernet cable and see if you still have the issue.
It almost sounds like the file is flagged as “read only”. I would right click on the gw2.dat file and uncheck “read only” and then try a repair. During the repair, your launcher should say that its checking all the files.
