The error is registering as “OOM” or Out of Memory. The process is exceeding a memory limit.
Actually, you’re at ~3 gigs. Windows cannot allocate much more than 3GB; we can see that below.
“Physical: 475MB/ 3045MB 15%” Windows is only allowing
That is your issue; you are running out of memory. Drop your graphics settings down and you should be fine in the interim. However, you really need to go back to a 64-bit system.
Delete the following file (its ok, the game regenerates it):
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\local.dat
Then start the game with the -repair option.

There are a lot of issues lately in the US with the internet. Please do the following:
When you do get ingame; type in “/ip” to get the IP of your server. Then in Windows, go to Start and type in “cmd” and hit enter. At the command prompt type in “pathping <ip>” and post the results.
When I upgrade my drivers, I usually choose “custom” install and check the box “Perform a clean install”. I’ve had to many issues in the past, just upgrading and keeping the profiles the same.

windows 8 64 bits i5 processor 8gig ram 500watts
500 watts is rather low. I’m willing to bet if you get a better power supply, the problem will go away. A 750 or greater should do the trick. However, I would red the specs on your system and add up the maximum power required for each device.
We have a lot of problems with that lag from Texas, Chicago, NY, Japan and others. 36 members and everyone has the same.
This issue only in GW2 because we are playing others MMO without problem.
Just because you can play other games fine; doesn’t mean anything. It could be GW2, it could be any number of hops on your path. A lot of people in the US are having issues lately; mostly with Level3 having some bad routing.

I know it sucks; but new hardware can still be bad. I bought a ASUS G53 last year; died on day 1. I then got it replaced and it died 30 days later. Sent it back and got a full refund. The rigs had a bad lot of graphics cards.

CrazyDuck, it looks like ALTER is having some issues; as you get getting timeouts. Unfortunately pathping would provide packet loss as well. Hopefully it will clear up by tomorrow.

83% packet loss, that is ugly. Looks like that fra23.ip4.tinet.net is the issue.
I am guesting on Maguuma now to see how it responds to me. I am going to head to LA and test it out.
Well dang. It would be nice to see the Path you are taking. What server are you on?
Just to clarify, you are using “pathping” and not just “ping”?
Interesting; your crash definitely points to a power loss. We could confirm that if you were able to boot; the Windows event log would have a critical error about power loss/interruption. Faulty power supplies are the usual culprit. I would highly doubt overheating was the issue.
Level3 (major backbone provider in the US) has been having some major issues in the NW portion of the united states. I’ve experienced issues with them in the past going through their Chicago hop.
That is unusual, but not out of the question. For your issue; if you can test your system with a new power supply, sounds like that might be the issue.
As for your friend’s bluescreen; can you post anything more on that? You can usually find the dumps under C:\Windows\Minidumps or something like that.
I know I was getting a BSOD with the latest nVidia drivers when playing GW2. I rolled back to the May(or April) HWQL drivers and haven’t had any issues since.
LOL @ “it’s NOT my internet”. There could be 15+ hops between you and Anet; any one of those could have issues. Going to Anet and to another game will not take the same path and therefore could be fine.
Let’s rule that out; when ingame, type in /ip to get the IP address of the server.
Then in Windows, go to Start and type in “cmd” and hit enter. At the command prompt, type in “pathping <ipaddress>” and post the results.
Also, what server are you on? US or EU?
Really, the way Windows is setup, the game cannot have direct access to the hardware; for the game to cause the system to die is very unlikely. The game is very CPU intensive; which could make it run hot, but the system should bluescreen and shutdown before any permanent damage is done.
Did it just power down or was there a blue screen? generally if it just shutoff; I would look at a faulty power supply.
Please attach your ArenaNet.log file located under C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\
What disconnect error are you getting?
When logged on, type in /ip, goto Start, type in “cmd” and hit enter. Type in “pathping <ip>” and post the results.
Do you play on wireless? Have you updated the network card drivers?
Have you tried the command “/joinsquad <commandername>”?
Have you run the game with the -repair option? Have you deleted your local.dat file under My Documents\Guild Wars 2\ ?
Are you from the Seattle/NW US area and going through Level3 backbone? If so, you’re out of luck until Level3 fixes it.
The client is a heavily modified GW1 engine; therefore it doesn’t take advantage of what modern GPUs offer. You may see a lot better performance going to an i7 processor, but can’t guarantee that.
Do technical support even read these forums? Comon my games is unplayable crashing every 10 minutes. What else do you want me to attach? 1 million dollars to get your kitten moving?
Not really. Tech Support forums are more for community support.
Basically, your system cannot support the game.
You need a system with a dedicated graphics card; not an integrated card. The integrated card shares its memory with your system. You only have 3GB of physical memory, with ~1.3 shared to the card.
I know you say “Hey, my system has 4GB”. It may, but it cannot use it. 32-bit Windows can only allocated a little over 3GB, with the remainder going to waste.
You may have a gforce motherboard, but not a card. If you are supposed to have a Gforce card, you maybe missing the drivers for it.
Please include your error report log. It should be located under C:\Users\<username>\Guild Wars 2\
A week? hasnt there been lag issues ever since the game has been around with high numbers in WvW? Ive counted 10 seconds before my heal worked during big battles.
There’s a difference between that and what the Seattle user base is currently experiencing. But yes, large groups have always caused skill lag issues.
You could try going through a free proxy; something that avoids those hops. Don’t ever pay for a proxy like wtfast.
What error# are you getting?
Can you attach your crash report. It should be under C:\Users\<username>\Guild Wars 2\
I’ve never tried it, but you may want to test it. Try starting the game with this option:
-uispanallmonitors
Try starting it in Windowed mode. If that doesn’t work, run it with the repair option.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
This page contains the how to and commands for that.
Yaaaaay :P
Also, Feirlista’s comment bout norton is right. Norton is way too heavy for the cause. I haven’t touched it in some times cause the reports are the same, but a year or 4 ago Norton could use up to 25% of a systems capacity’s. For a firewall/virusscanner that is way too much. Specially when there are good alternatives that are just as good AND free. So would also suggest to give norton the boot.
I’ve been using Norton for some time now; they have made many improvements since 2010 to reduce its footprint. I’ve never seen it come anywhere near 25%.
With that said. MSE and the MS firewall are great tools as well and if i decide to drop Norton this year, it will be for that.
Easiest way, delete your local.dat file located under C:\Users\<username>\Guild Wars 2\local.dat
Then re-launch the game.
If that doesn’t work, launch the game with -windowed option. The following website will tell you how to do that.
I would really like to hear from ANet about this latest rash of lag. Attached is my Network Diagnostics log.
First thing I’m seeing is that your ISP’s routing through Level3 to connect to Guild Wars 2’s servers.
You’re not alone on this. The Level 3 routing has been pretty bad for us despite pings being nominal. Packet loss is just horrible.
What really sucks is that my wife’s computer plays the game normally. Here is a copy of the Network Diagnostics test from her system. Note that we share an internet connection. I am not sure why she has no lag and I am almost paralized by it.
How are both of you connected to the internet? Do you have any port forwarding turned on? Wireless/Wired?
About all it will show would be the IP address you are coming from. You can easily edit line 1-3 out (your system, router, first IP address on your ISP).
Sounds like you’re hitting a power cap.
What is your system configuration, including the wattage on the power supply?
yes!
i am experiencing this too. i experienced such lags a long time ago, but it never came back until one or two days ago.
it is gw2 because all other internet and games function fine on my side.
You sir, do not know how the internet works. If you are having the same issues as the OP, its the internet, not GW2.
Anet can’t do anything about Level3’s crappy routing. They usually have these issues and about a week later it cleans itself up. I used to have a similar issue because of L3’s peering location in Chicago.
It should just be pathping x.×.×.x
It may take a bit, because it will return statistics about the hops.
First of all, let’s see how your connection holds up. When you are on a WVW server or PvP server, type in /ip in the chat. This will give you the IP Address of that server.
Next, in Windows, go to “Start” then type in “cmd” and hit enter. At the command prompt, type in “pathping IPADDRESS” and post the results.
When you are ingame, type “/ip” in the chat windows. This will give you the IP address of the server you are on.
Then go to Start and type in either “cmd” or “Powershell” and hit enter.
Then type in at the prompt
pathping IPADDRESS
What are you running on your system?
Physical: 8506MB/12184MB 69%
Paged: 20046MB/24367MB 82%
8gigs used and another 20 gigs paged?
If you could, follow this link and run the Game Advisor:
Stop using wtfast. Not to mention, I think programs like that are complete bullcrap and a scam for money.
Well there are a few problems here.
1) You are running an obsolete operating system. I highly suggest upgrading to Windows 7. Windows Vista consumes WAY too much memory, which is part of your problem.
2) You have only 4GB of memory. If you upgraded to 6GB or even 8GB, I can almost guarantee that this “out of memory” error would go away.
In short, you need a computer upgrade
You need a 64bit operating system to even use 4GB of memory. You’re 32-bit windows system is only really using around 3.2GB. You are memory limited. New OS(must be 64-bit) and some extra ram would go a LONG way.
Errors like this can be common. Usually point towards something in the game data being corrupted.
Try this:
1) Exit the game
2) delete the file C:\Users\<username>\My Documents\Guild Wars 2\local.dat
3) log back in
if that doesn’t work:
1) Exit game
2) run the game with the -repair command (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments)
3) log back in.
Level3 is one of the larger backbone providers for the internet in the USA. looks like they maybe having some issues. Specifically from the LA connection.
Forget what I said, that was the wrong server I was plotting. My server, sanctum of rall has zero packet loss for me. Yet I get error 7.
If, from your previous post, you are having packet loss further upstream; its not their issue either. If that level3 is causing packloss, you’re screwed.
This refers to dungeoning; not Fractals of the Mists(FOTM)
Q) What do I need to know to get started?
A) Know your character and game mechanics. Know how threat works, look at the forums for good PVE dungeon builds(basically straight DPS builds, don’t stack conditions).
Q) Will being quest geared make me liability to my group?
A) Depending on group, probably not. However, your DPS will be quite low compared to the rest of the group. Generally for Dungeoning, Beserker > ALL; unless you are Anchoring a group (think tanking in GW2 sense).
Q) How long is the typical dungeon?
A) Good group; 5-30mins for most. Baddies 30+
Q) Can dungeons really be completed with any group combination?
A) Yes; certain classes make things easier.
Q) Are dungeons typically run in, kill, and loot? Or is there typically a gimmick you have to know?
A) Can be both; Most of the wiki pages have decent write-ups. Don’t be afraid to look there or at youtube videos. Hell, even ask questions. Do something; I cannot stand when someone comes in, doesn’t know what they are doing and doesn’t ask a single question. I do not have time for people like that. I’ll gladly take all the time to explain the dungeon and answer any questions.
Q) Also, paths? Is that like tier 1 tier 2 tier 3 difficulty levels?
A) Usually 1 story path and 3 explorations paths. No difficulty scaling.
Should also add, there is no way to make the game less demanding network wise. If this is a network issue; she maybe out of luck.
