I know that at least 1 in every 3 of my attempts I can make it to the top
If you’re only making it 1 out of every 3 attempts, that is failing. That is 33.333333333% pass rate. Which is a failing grade. You shouldn’t consider this easy until your success rate is above 70%.
I consider it extremely easy. 1 in 3? I did say at least once, meaning I also can do 2/3 and 3/3, which I have. But that besides the point. Jumping Puzzles are an amazing aspect of this game, and it’s called a puzzle for a reason. Puzzles are meant to be hard or challenging. The MK JP is neither….
By this logic, no jumping puzzle is hard. Hard is an opinion, but ANet measures it by how many of their community can beat it. I would guess less than 10% of the community has. I don’t know, i just know I am the only one of my friends who has beaten it, and I’ve had to beat it for 6 of them
No-no, Clock Tower still has a huge value, absolutely.
When I’ve beaten it recently, I’ve got a bunch of PMs asking for help from people who apparently were doing it for the first time. For those who had all the fun last year though, it IS easy. And that’s the point.
JPs are losing most of their appeal once they are beaten and rest of it vanishes when they are mastered (ie beaten several times). The only question is, if these 10% (or whatever it is, only Anet knows) are worth of investment into new content.
Thoughts?
Depends on details.
From FAQ it looks like Edge will have owerflow mechanics which would make it harder for two guilds to gather at particular overflow to start with and further not bump into another GvG.
Also from the looks of it landscape is more like what we have on BLs with bloodlust ie very diverse multi-level environment without large open areas. Although there may be side objectives implemented that would reshape GvG as we know it completely so landscape wouldn’t be an issue, but that’s too early to tell.
P.S. Vol basically has beat me to it
Add my vote to the “new and improved clock tower”. Although it is a bit late to ask for it but next Halloween – please make something happen. Like hard mode or something.
Last year this JP was a highlight of the game for me personally. Man if it was exciting, unbearably frustrating and fun at the same time. This year – meh, just auto-runned through it.
I even thought at first Anet simplified it. But after watching last year YT videos, I’ve realized that no, it is the same. I’ve just trained it so much last year that it is a walk in the park now. Boohoo, so much for a holiday
It’s an exclusive and limited item. ALL players should not be able to get ALL items.
End transmission.
That’s just dumb doesn’t make any sense, pardon my french. There’s a huge demand and it will be unwise to ignore it. That’s a great monetization opportunity. Some of the best skins in the game, are you kidding me?
I mean, I would understand it it was a result of some extraordinary achievement, like a title or something, but that’s just expensive high-end skins.
Hold your horses. Last year, these skins weren’t obtainable straight away either. Just wait and see how this event plays out. I’m OK with complaining afterwards, but it might be that you’re jumping the gun.
Well let’s hope. I’m amassing MF mats just in case.
but Warriors..You can’t throw a rock without hitting 5 of them in WvW.
That’s because of AoE cap. Otherwise you’d be hitting much more of them.
Yeah, I kinda miss these days when we were coming to JP for a change of pace, to have some small scale skirmishes, to troll somebody or to be trolled the kitten out of us… Oh those days
If anything, this added arena may draw new attention to JP itself and revitalize it, who knows….
(edited by Yaro.3251)
Sorry I’v lost the track – interested in what? GvG league?
Grammar kitten at its finest. Isn’kitten
I’d prefer if they’d be more creative and do something like “isn’ (. )( .)”
P.S. Oh it’s not even grammar. My oh my, the burden of Puritan…
(edited by Yaro.3251)
Though I guess Guild Arena or Guild Battle is a better descriptor, I don’t like the use of GvG because GvG means something very specific to me and I’m sure a lot of Guild Wars Prophecies players agree with me. But you have established the gametype under that moniker and there is about nothing I can do about it.
“Guild Arena” is actually not that bad. When/if Anet would start talking more about development progress of official GW2 GvG thus claiming the title, that IMO would be one of good options for what we call GW2 GvG now.
Personally, I’m not attached to any term, it just fits well. Even more so for those who have no GW1 experience.
(edited by Yaro.3251)
signet of kitten
This one won the thread.
Its my opinion, this community organized GvG is nothing like the GvG which I played in GW1.
I totally agree with that. It’s just that the term is too generic to claim its ownership for particular implementation.
Why does it take 70+ posts to say ‘no’?
Because as this thread demonstrates 95% of people have no idea what a good D/P thief is, let alone what beats it. They have magical beliefs that all classes can do everything and don’t understand the limitations of their own classes.
No, it’s just that everyone has their own idea of good thief which is a product of their own skill level.
We are talking about good players of equal skill
You see, nobody would consider themselves bad player. And if a fight lasts considerable amount of time, they would probably consider opponent a good player too. Note that you may consider both of them mediocre. “Good” is just meaningless qualification since it is not objective.
Creating this kind of thread in general not class-related forum is asking for 95% of answers you are getting. If I was after same answers last thing I’d do is asking here.
And I’m assuming since you’ve dropped our little conversation, you count me in these 95%.
Your theorycrafting is quite amusing but why it is that the scene was only growing since its inception until it got a stab in the gut by bl bloodlust?
Also it seems that you’ve missed my initial response.
It exists only in the form that helps you personally with not missing/running past your target. Look for “Melee Attack Assist” in options menu.
You can go ahead and find it out by yourself New thread button is right up there.
The best way to beat a skilled d/p thief is to make your own, learn the tricks and timing involved, then you can reasonably predict and counter on your main class.
It is true for any class.
This is a pretty good example of what I don’t consider beating a thief. Firstly if they catch you with the wrong weapon equipped you’re the creek.
Yeah there was one case when I’ve botched it with misclick and somehow was wearing GS/GS when two thieves decided to have a third go at me after both being downed at previous rounds. Other than that, all my weapon combos are viable.
More importantly is that even if you make them flee, I highly doubt you can capture a camp and not die when they gank you
If I’m aware of their presence, they cannot technically “gank” me. And of course I will not put myself into position where I’m fighting all camp NPC defenders and a good roaming thief at the same time.
If I’m incorrect on this point then by all means correct me as I honestly don’t have a lot of experience solo capping with either the AH or the Triple Med Guardian builds, but I really don’t see you taking an objective if the thief decides he doesn’t want to let you.
Is this any different if we swap places and it is thief who is trying to cap camp and I’m coming to deny that?
I’m running a build that can often kill other players/take objectives and not care about your evasive thief character because you can’t stop me.
Still don’t see a point.
That’s exactly what I’m asking for in this thread, so would you care to elaborate?
Oh I see what you did there
I’m running guardian with several builds, one of them is staple x/x/30/30/x build with power stat-build, boon duration or condi resuction. Weapon set is a combination of GS/Hammer/Staff/Mace/Focus. Guard leech, applied fortitude and sigil stacks are a must since they are game changers.
The key distinction being that the thief is running a build that can often kill other players/take objectives and not care about your tanky character because you can’t stop them.
The key distinction is that I’m running a build that can often kill other players/take objectives and not care about your evasive thief character because you can’t stop me.
Still don’t see a point.
I really think it’s the same question, as in the grand scheme of things WvW isn’t about ‘dueling in a box pride’. It’s a game mode where you try and roam the land and capture objectives, while your enemies try to stop you. Hence if a Thief can stop you capturing something, but you can’t stop him capturing something, then the thief is winning.
Again though I apoligise and should have clarified that I’m not talking about dueling in a box with made up rules, as I understand some people really do like that.
I’m not sure what’s your point. You assuming that good thief has 100% escape plan but other classes can make a mistake and die from a thief. So good thieves don’t make any mistakes but good other classes do?
Again, talking in terms of “good thief vs good me” makes sense only in “dueling in a box” situation, as you’ve put it. As “in the grand sceme of things” on WvW most of thieves are not that good. So the net result is “you vs all of them over long period of time”. Most of them are minor annoyance and do not stop me capturing anything.
(edited by Yaro.3251)
If a d/p thief runs, you win, it’s as simple as that
That isn’t winning. No PvPer worth his weight would ever consider that actually winning a fight. That is called “not losing.”
Well yeah, but if opponent is throwing a towel that’s a win. Not as satisfying as sticking a pole into their chest but meh. It’s like a molestful fly you can’t catch. Fly wins all the time if they don’t get careless. Yeah, whatever, moving on…
One of the frequently asked questions is what can they play that is still fun but doesn’t die to good D/P thieves solo.
Now that’s a bit different question than “who can beat them”, is it?
@OP: What do you mean by “beating”? I’ll bring a boxing analogy here: If you are talking about scorecard – sure can do. If you are talking about victory via knockout – probably not.
I refuse to play D/P because heartseeking 4x times through smoke field with your camera down and your field of view totally screwed up
That’s 6x and there’s no need to “camera down”. Or even 7x depending how quick you are. When I’m finishing this combo I have full initiative and 7-8-9 sec left of invis.
(edited by Yaro.3251)
I’m not a ‘gvger’ (in gw2 sense), but what I see wrong with this in the long term….
I Have No Faith In You
All your points (quite rational btw) are missing the point. You should remember that this is (and apparently will be till official game mode is introduced) community-driven activity. Adding an arena only helps community maintaining it.
The determining “unit” here is not the player, but the guild. Guilds have their own meanings to attract new players to their ranks via recruiting and new guilds to GvG scene via meeting them in the field on WvW. As long as there is a value and interest for WvW guilds in trying to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses as a team versus other guilds in more controlled environment than open WvW, Nancy will live.
Perhaps it’s kept secret so it can be changed without causing an outcry. If it can and being occasionally changed (for performance reasons for example), this by itself can cause controversy. Hence secrecy.
Warriors are the best long-distance sprinters but several classes have faster gap closers.
Nop. A Greatsword/sword-warhorn Ranger is.
Swoop —--> weapon swap —--> #2sword’s skill (with camera usage) —-—> #5 warhorn’s skill (swiftness), and all that with 25% run speed signet.
Which gives you less than 2000 distance while warrior with 3 skills goes over 2000. Without camera acrobatics.
The issue I have is classes that shouldn’t have high mobility are instead the most mobile classes in the game. I mean can any class catch a Warrior? Maybe a Thief, but even that’s pushing it.
Yes, but only with CC and shutdown (and using a Mesmer of all classes
)
He wasn’t even trying to escape and had a longbow. GS/S/W warrior? You’d be pushed back with a boom as he goes over sonic barrier

This dream of yours is called USSR. At least first part of it.
Nah, it was called Guild Wars 1 GvG and it was great.
“I’t” was never called GW1 GvG as the scale makes all the difference. It won’t work at the scale WvW is operating.
This dream of yours is called USSR. At least first part of it.
As if you’d have any chance if that would come true.
Strong words over nothing
Lmfao Ogro, youre still alive bro haha what you been up to?
GTA V, I’ve heard. Ogre’s YT channel is pretty telling
This thread TLDR.
Blob.
Correct term would be blOP.
I’ve learned that running yesterday with out blob on Piken BL lead by [OP] commander
Yesterday I’ve seen some strange kitten with the guy falling from the skies standing still and being invulnerable to attacks, and then apparently same guy going superman while retreating (As in “up, up and away!”). Didn’t see this kind of misery in a while. Report on sight and move on, what you gonna do…
I’m fine with you renaming to BDOD or RWOV. PK? Not so much, too nooby.
:D

out of topic. since i understand russian, did you guys know, that Za Ebbis [ZBs] if you translate from russian, means “go f*** yourself”
kinda offensive, but meh
And Za Drots means “no lifers”, or so they’ve told me.
That is correct. Well sorta. Since “zadrot” doesn’t necessarily have only negative connotations. It has wider meaning frame than “no lifer”. Nowadays at least

No, you got it wrong lauminas. This is not gfy.
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%B7%D0%B0%D0%B5%D0%B1%D0%B8%D1%81%D1%8C
Btw wiki got #2 wrong too since it is the meaning of ot’ebis, not zaebis
But my issue is the way it went down and a small percentage of the population forcing a change to a format that never had that form of intent. Heck, I hail from DaOC and we didn’t put up with this.
This is not a format change, this is an addition, extension if you will, of sandbox to support wider variety of play styles. Which is the goal of sandbox in the fist place. I’m assuming you agree that WvW is a sandbox since you said about it being more open and less ruled environment with only formal frame.
But to have all the drama and then follow up with a design change makes me cringe a bit because it seems like a knee jerk reaction rather than a well thought out path or design. Thus my comment.
Did you consider the possibility that this desicion was made as a quick solution to kill the drama (read the conflict inside WvW population between those who GvG and those who don’t)?
We could have been fed with with “we are working on it” for another season while well thought out solution would be implemented. Or have basically what we were asking for at minimum, right now. And THEN wait for more global changes.
Exactly, I try to be a nice person in the game – but if they are going to “all is fair in war” into WvW as a saboteur does that give me right to act as, say, a general would in real life – which as I said would likely be torture (verbal in the case of a game)
In case of determined spy/saboteur, this “torture” can simply be ignored. In case of a troll, it may be exactly what they are after.
So meh, doesn’t look like a viable counter.
Either way, I am more interested from an official standpoint if sabotage is allowed, and if it is, how far we can go in terms of retaliating against it (without being reported and banned ourselves).
I cannot give you a source (cannot be bothered to dig them out) but you’re not the first player to bring this up on the forums. From what I remember, responses were quite straightforward. And honestly, CoC leaves little space for interpretations in this regard. If you are joining the server in WvW battle, you supposed play nice with your fellow mist warriors, not against them.
Enforcement is huge issue here however. So probably only repeated/mass offenses would be worked on. Catch them red-handed, take screenshots/videos, report. As much as you can do without breaking CoC yourself. Btw I’m still interested what specific actions you have in mind when asking about “how far we can go dealing with them”?
According to the COC this is probably allowed, and I applaud inserting saboteurs into your enemies’ ranks – it’s exactly the type of dirty play that war is supposed to be about.
BTW I do not agree with that. Because switching servers is out-of-game experience, it is closer to cheating than RP (if anything).
If there was actual in-game mechanic that allowed this kind of infiltration and sabotage, I’d be all for it though. Wouldn’t it be cool if there was an infiltration specialist who had camouflage abilities which legitimately would change their appearance. And say each sabotage act would have a reveal chance or would decrease camouflage up-time.
Unfortunately, there’s a number of challenges associated with it like chat visibility, but as an idea – dayyym!
(edited by Yaro.3251)
except it’s not a war, it’s war game. With some rules attached (CoC). Even wars have these.
What can you possibly do about them other than reporting?
I’m just curious because you sound like you have a lot of actions to choose from but not sure if some of them are not allowed
Are you against PTV/VPT too?
Do most of you complainers even WvW?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_ExperienceScroll to the middle section, under Consumables. Those drop off of loot bags in WvW. I like how you guys focus on the one aspect that is unpopular and ignore everything else. Yeah, those WvW consumable dropping at a higher rate and not dependent on you gaining any WvW Rank, that could potentially net 5 levels for your alts aren’t useful at all. Lets just keep focusing on another content group that is OPTIONAL and would have no affect on you wether or not you chose to participate in it.
How liquid WEXP helps with alts? As long as there are useful WEXP masteries to get, all of it will be spent on main character anyway.
When I leveled my character to 80 and geared it to full exo+ascended (though ascended are time-gated, but OK, it can be managed somewhat), so when I do that -that’s it, I don’t need to invest more resources and can spend them on another character. With WEXP, there’s no foreseeable end to the race. That’s what is not alt-friendly.
I’m honestly really annoyed at all this “it hurts the alts” bullkitten. It’s called character progression. Without it this game would grow really stale really fast.
You see, for me (and I assume for many others who complain) the beauty of this game is was that you don’t need to invest heavily time-wise into single character to stay relevant and thus have all game content available for exploration. This “progression” you are talking about is as boring and stale. The only feeling of progression I have is when I explore the world and/or profession. No amount of WEXP lines will make me take a fresh look at any profession. Partially because WEXP lines are not profession-specific.
The argument is not about how WEXP via laurels hurts alts, it’s not. It doesn’t hurt, it just doesn’t help.
It’s about the game made a turn some time ago from this refreshing approach of having practically no grind which allowed exploring all of its content without falling behind the arm race, to more classical, stale and boring way of grinding and single character focus.
It was implemented to help alts.
No it’s not. It still has single, very limited source. Laurels income is not multiplied by number of alts. Neither is liquid WEXP. We still have single pool of resources to spend across all characters. Guess what – as long as there are useful masteries to have, all of this pool will be spent on main.
Did you even continue to read the rest of my post? Go back and check it and you will see I am not arguing against your point…
I did. I’m not arguing with you either, not about the whole issue that is. Just pointing out an error in particular premise. It was NOT implemented to help alts.
Not at all, just goofing around.
C’mon, that was funny, was it
WvW basics for new players to help lower the learning curve of playing
Wait, what? How people supposed to deal with negative learning curve?
Which it will become with your help since there’s not much of a curve anyway.
Soo, it means that after viewing your videos people will start understanding less and less about WvW while playing.
Now I’ve confused myself ,_,
OK so my main is 314 WvW rank and 39 fractal lvl. Where should I go?
Outside.
Haha, good one But it’s not my case, although ditching computer games completely wouldn’t be a bad idea. For anyone.
