Giving more XP for map completion, when you consider every vista, POI and heart gives you XP already would make map completion over-rewarding.
There are people who really don’t like map completing who would feel pressured to if you made the rewards so vast.
If you don’t like it, don’t do it. If you do like it do it. That’s pretty much the way the whole game is set up.
That’s why the rewards are set the way they’re set.
If that was the case, judging by the amount of negative posts I see on these forums – no one would play the game. If I don’t like something, I will say that I don’t like it and I will ask anet to make some alternative for people like me. I think that’s fair.
If you really enjoy completing maps after you managed to complete 100% of world map, then either you’re one of those people who really enjoy repeating the same content/grinding, which I personally don’t; or you have some serious mental issues. And it would be nice to have something that would encourage me to finish these maps again. Those small rewards just don’t quite do this for me.
You forgot to add that when you are completely done with all maps you’ll get
2 gifts of exploration (which you’ll never use unless you make a Legendary)
A gold star (which is invisible to you so you have to ask someone else if it’s there)
A title (also invisible to you)Who can ask for more? ^^
Anyone who finished all the maps already can ask for more. XD
Well, maybe it’s just me and my impossible high standards.
I just want to get some enjoyment out of completing a map, it isn’t much to ask, is it?
I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks that map completion reward isn’t really worth it.
You get
- Coins (amount scales with the level of the area),
- Experience (10% of level at the time map was completed),
- 2 random pieces of equipment (approximate to level of the area),
- 1 Transmutation Charge or 1 Black Lion Chest Key,
- 40 random crafting materials or 20 random ingredients available in the zone,
And while it might be worth it in high level areas (Level 70+), it’s not really that rewarding otherwise.
I suggest to increase the experience gained at least to 50% of the current level. Additionally, couldn’t it be at least 2 Transmutation Charges or Black Lion Chest Key?
As it is, I doubt they are people who go out of their way just to get the map completion done in order to get one transmutation charge. Even if they do manage to get it, and they hope to change skins for their entire armour set, they feel like “Great…now I have to complete 5 more maps…”
And yes, I know you can buy charges for gold, but that’s even more of a reason to increase the reward for map completion – it’s not worth doing at all at the moment.

Not everything needs to be available forever in a living world. Its bad enough you can buy S1 rewards for laurels (terrible move in my opinion)
But the whole point is – those are the only skins they didn’t add. And Wings of the Sunless are the only skin I didn’t get in time. See, I feel like it’s unfair. If you’re going to add an option who people who have missed out – make sure to include everything.
For the note, I also didn’t like that they made s1 items buyable. But since we can’t do anything about it, they might as well add more skins.
It wasnt a skin from living story, but from tequatl rising. Just like seasonal events, that was not part of the living story line.
Yes, but it was organised instead of Living Story, because of a break. Now the Living Story continues, chances for a Boss Week are slim, and chances for it being about Tequatl again are even slimer.
I’d rather have those wings drop from Tequatl or require achievements than not being avaiable at all.
The followers list is only beneficial.
That list empowers you to know who had added you as a friend. It only has benefits for the person being followed, as you can easily block followers you feel shouldn’t be following you.
The followers list itself isn’t the cause of the OP’s problem.
The OP actually has a problem with people being able to add him to their friend list without his/her permission.
The OP having issue with this makes no sense to me given the context of the genre this game is. And I would highly recommend against such a change, as promoting Interpersonal communication is important to building communities, which is ultimately what MMO’s are made up of.
Give a Scepter to this Dictator, who wants to tell us all, with whom we have to communicate …
Seriously.
Its everyones own decision, who we want to have as followers/friends.
This whole mind devolutionized problem would’t even exist at all, if ANet would have given us a well thought out system around the List Systems, that gives everyone the same rights, what currently is not the case.With the current system, every silly jerk can just basically put everyone in their follower list, without that YOU get any notice about this, you don’t get asked for permission, what is the most normal thing that MUST happen in a fair community.
Otherwise our Follower/Block List rise ad absurdum from people, which put us in their stupid follower list and then become inactive, giving you no chance to remove this junk from your list at all.
There needs to be at least some time counter, which lets followers automatically remove from your list, if you don’t turn them within like the next 48-72 hours into friendsThere is absolute 0 reson to have such an obsolete stalker/follower list, that shows too much information about things, that only friends should see.
Followers are totally obsolete, because you could turn them all into “Friends” and nickname all people in your FL, which are true friends and which are just “Followers”.So why do we need to have that silly extra list, that does nothing, what the Friend List can’t do ???
Even Social Media Sites, like Facebook require a god darn PEMISSION REQUEST first, before you can add somebody to your Frined List.
When such sites like FB have this simple request mechanic, what is the most normal thing to add to FL’s, then tell me, why is it so freaking hard for Anet to add such a little, but important function to their own ingame friend list feature since 2 years???This topic existed already since game release already and got discussed since then every now and then.
Its just sad to see, that such little, but mind boggling problems get ignored by Anet since 2 years, when they could have been already solved by one of the many little patches, most likely even under a stealth patch, because adding a little permission request function and more options for players to manage their own follower/friend list by giving players the power also to remove junk from it permanently so simply, as the other side can just add you – so simply should it be also removeable by the other side again, is absolutely no rocket science task !!!
There is no reason to be able to add someone to a friendlist without their consent?
- I can tell who’s lying/trolling by their AP points thanks to that feature.
- I can add people who are completely new to the game and don’t know the HUD yet well enough.
- I can send mails to people who aren’t online for some time EASILY.
Those are my arguments and it took me around 1 minute to come up with those. What are your arguments for deleting it?
“That bad people might find you once in a while”?
I say, keep it this way. Just add an option to switch zones.
its just a feature for trolls to know where you are and what your doing it needs to be removed
You’re not making much sense, friend.
It allows you to see on what map is a certain person. And I agree that they could remove this little detail, but I don’t think it’s bad. I actually like to be able to tell where my friends are.
Mobs have different kinds of aggros, so if anyone tries to pull that sort of stunt, they might die themselves. You can always report that person for “griefing”, or something.
btw. I also had a person who would follow me on the map which was slightly annoying. I agree that there could be maybe an option to switch zones(and to degree, there is) which would probably solve your problem.
No thanks. Skins exclusive to events are very nice.
Skins exclusive to events? That’s literally the only skin you can’t get after the first season of living story ended and it was in the same category(if I recall correctly). So while I do appreciate that it’s limited, I also find it slightly unfair.
/Scratch the above, there’s more of those, but luckily I have them/
It’s not even that nice of a skin, I just wish to have it in my collection as it’s the only Living Story item I’ve missed. EVEN legendaries are out there to get them in SOME way, and they are much better-looking and harder to earn.
I strongly disagree. It’s thanks to that function that I’m able to tell apart newbies from trolls/frauds when I help them out. I can see their AP, you see, so it’s very helpful to be able to add them.
Use Ignore or Report function to stop being bothered. Additionally, you can always go “offline” so only your friends know you’re there. You can still talk inside a party.
I have no idea at all what your problem is. You can just block those people. Unless you meet 20 new people a day, there shouldn’t be any problems.
(For the record, I’m pretty sure I have more than 200 or even 300 people blocked)
Hello.
Every other possible skin that was in living story is avaiable by either buying it on Trading Post or by buying it from Laurel merchant. Except for these wings that (unluckily) I didn’t manage to get in time.
As the game is, there is no way that there is going to be another Boss Week, and even less chances that it will be Tequatl again. That’s why I’d like you make it possible to get it in some way.
That would be all.
Mobs DO use different skills. Best example would be bandits using thief’s elite skill. (“Dagger Storm”, or something like that).
The combat is this game isn’t half bad. It’s the most challenging I’ve seen in any MMO, as it actually requires you to move around if you want to stay alive.
I just wish anet would fix some of the small issues we have, and maybe try to make support build meaningful.
Hello, this topic was made for completely new players, hoping that they actually look inside of this forum section.
“If any newbie needs any help, feel free to whisper me.”
I usually put this message on map chat, but might as well do it here.
All you need to do is to add me to your friendlist in the game (click “Y”).
- I don’t charge anything
- Any newbie is welcome
- I only speak English
- I don’t offer gold/silver/copper
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the note – if you have over 2000 achievement points, I will assume that you are either a:
- bored troll
- person who feels like testing me to feel better about itself
- fraud who wants some gold
- all of the above
Then again, I had people with more points asking me how to use emotes.
People who feel like fooling around and annoying me will get immadiately blocked. <3
That’s all, spam away!
ANet has already shown with their action how this game will run: if it does not involve RNG+Gem Store sale, nothing will be done about it. For instance our many many bug reports about professions, constant reminders on existence of PvP/WvW/Dungeons and various suggestions have gone unheeded for two years now. And all of those have in common, which is lack of direct correlation in gem store sales. Living Story on the other hand creates an influx of players, which then can be lured into buying gems for skins/utilities while ardent PvP/WvW/Dungeon players have already accumulated enough gold and items to ignore such sales.
As matter of fact PvP has been neglected for 2 years with exception of occasional tournaments which only few people play. For WvW GvG or tier balancing is still out of the window and the most recent improvements were already datamined since the beginning of the game. For Pve, well ANet flat out destroyed hopes and desires of many Dungeoners and ruined fractal rewards even more. At this point expecting something from Anet is completely futile due to their infamous track records, so what I’d say is enjoy the combat and the game until new games come out.
- 1 Additional Emote for 800 gems,
- Ability to decorate your house, organize parties and do stuff like that for 1200 gems for Each furniture,
- Seperate buildings for guilds, private “teleporting stones” for guild members, all for 8000 or 16000 gems,
- Item allowing you to NAME the weapons/armour you craft for 2000 gems,
- Item allowing you to turn soul-bound item into an account-bound item for 2000 or 4000 gems.
- Unlocking bonus race/class for 4000 gems.(Almost) Free:
- Jobs from NPCs that would allow you to do ‘grind your kitten off’ tasks in order to get some gold,
- Information about who crafted the weapon/armour on every item(?), like a signature (which cost 800 gems),
- Ability to save trait combinations (new to the gemshop for 800 gems), this one would be great,
- “Coaching” new players for some period of time would grant players a 72h buff that would increase magic find by 50%, if the people you help will give you a good rating (only if you buy the VIP access for 10 Euros monthly).Those are just a few things that would make the game way more fun (for ANET).
There fixed it for you. We know that its going to turn out like that.
I lol’d. XD
I honestly don’t think anet is that money-grabbing. (Even if they seem that way because of their weird focus on RNG and gems)
After all they offer us free content after purchasing the game. If you look at it like that – we made a really good deal.
(Even if it’s 1 year of fun and nearly 2 years of frustration…)
If you want challenge, you could always go to Southsun Cove and jump into a bunch of karkas. That is, unless, you feel like you’re so powerful you can defeat an army of those at a time. xD
For me, Southsun Cove is a place where I don’t feel safe, I don’t know about you guys.It was similar for me in Orr when I was new to the game. If you go there unprepared – you will die. Learning monster’s abilities and patterns takes time, so…
Even on higher level, if you run into bandits in Queensdale(by their cave) – you will die. There’s your ‘careful dodging’ part.
I’m not sure what you expect from anet. Do they add new mobs or change their mechanics completely? Because I’m mostly happy with the way combat is, other than occassional lack of challenge.What I agree on is that it would be nice to show some meaning to different builds. At the moment Berserker gear is the best in nearly every situation, as long as you can do some basic dodging. This could be improved.
Well, can say the problem is that Veteran Karka, belongs to the 1% of PvE mobs (Which includes abit more complex/challenging boss monsters, Mordrem and Giant Beetles)
Veteran Karka requires more careful approach, since they use alot of boons, debilitating attacks and possess resilience which makes full berserker DPS builds pretty much suicide, if I don’t take any practical utility skills for the battle.My Necromancer gets more use here (Especially the boon/condition manipulation abilities, oh that corrupting boons is refreshing) and the combat is not repetive stand-spam-DPS atleast, but it’s still 1%, so my main Necromancer will be sitting in out for majority of time.
As for Queensdale Bandits, might hit hard for the lvl, like everywhere else (99% of mobs), they still all die quick and do pretty much nothing, since most of the time they spend in “slow attack speed” cooldowns, activating 1 ability in every 3-5 seconds…
If I play Condition build there, I can just watch and enjoy the condition dmg ticks, dodge abit, heal abit more, but not enjoy much of the combat itself…
If I play with berserker DPS build there, I pretty much clear out the cave by just using auto-attack and few weapon skills. Might have to activate heal skill once, but I will pretty much never use dodge, keep on moving or think about my positioning…
But as Queensdale is pretty much starter area, I can understand the mobs being super easy…
And of course, it also gets boring when repeating same mobs in 1 place, so I move to another map for a change…
Yet there are not much of maps to go to, due to the 99% of same mobs…
:(
I agree that mobs could be more complex and that berserker gear is clearly better than other choices as the game is now.
On the other hand, I’d like you to look at it from another perspective – different mobs have different patterns, different skills etc. The game mechanics stay the same, but I don’t think that’s the biggest problem. The biggest problem is the berserker gear, which allows anyone with basic dodging ability to kill nearly everything in the game.
A step in fixing that, would be monsters that:
- Target the player with the highest DPS,
- Attack in multiple strikes one after another instead of one-hit kills,
- Put conditions such as blind, chilled, and confusion on players,
- Regenerate health unless poisoned/bleeding etc.
That could stop players in some areas from using berserker gear, though I’m no expert.
My biggest problem is – sometimes I use these skills to move around fast or run through waves of enemies. To do that I have to scroll my camera to the point I can only see my character so it won’t auto target every mob on the map. That’s fine, that’s my choice, but it doesn’t always work. Even though my camera view is clear, my character still ends up targeting mobs that aren’t in it. I’ve died plenty of times because of that.
ANet has already shown with their action how this game will run: if it does not involve RNG+Gem Store sale, nothing will be done about it. I don’t mind paying for content they add if it’s good and worth investing in. For example:
- Seperate buildings for guilds, private “teleporting stones” for guild members, all for 800 or 1600 gems,
(edited by Yoroiookami.3485)
I wish they would add even more meaning to build diversity by:
- Improving defensive/supportive gear.
- Adding more of supportive traits to certain classes. (Especially thieves and necromancers)
- Rewarding people who play supportive roles(For example – with bonus damage/experience)
- Tweeking Healing Power
- Add skills/traits that decrease cooldowns of other people.
The last one, I feel – is the closest to a supportive skill we can get in the game as it is. Healing people doesn’t mean much as every class has their own healing skill, so instead decreasing other players’s cooldowns might be a good idea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adding some kind of interaction between Rangers and their pets would be amazing.
Maybe some kind of leveling system? Or adding small boosts to different pets?
Right now it all comes down to looking for ‘weapons’ on different maps; simple tools.
It wouldn’t have to be anything huge, for example:
- Arctodus could decrease condition duration on its owner by 5%.
- Eagle could increase running speed by 5%.
- Pig could increase magic find by 5%…
and so on and so forth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also feel like guardians are the easiest class there is at the moment. They have an easy beggining, easy mid-game, easy end-game. Maybe it’s just my opinion, but I noticed a huge leap between(for example) guardian and engineer.
Sadly I don’t know what to do with them to balance them out with other classes. As far as I know, guardians don’t get progressively stronger, they are strong from the beggining.
Examples:
- As a guardian, I had no problem at all with my story missions. I even used them to farm keys.
- As an engiee/thief/necromancer…the beggining wasn’t that easy at all, I died a lot and couldn’t finish my story missions before I got a higher level.
- As a guardian, I managed to successfuly kill Tequatl with no problem from level 45 up. Even though I didn’t have much health and didn’t deal that much damage, it was hard for me to die there. I didn’t really have to dodge much.
- I barely managed to finish Tequatl at my level 60 thief. Other classes were also harder to use.
So yeah, I’m not sure what to do about it – Guardian is the easiest class at the moment. At least for me.
TRAITS
Please lower them to level 10 or 15. People should be able to experiment from early levels. That is all. Thank you.
If you want challenge, you could always go to Southsun Cove and jump into a bunch of karkas. That is, unless, you feel like you’re so powerful you can defeat an army of those at a time. xD
So I decided to try out this new leveling system. I created a Norn Mesmer and I must say, I was surprised. It wasn’t that bad at all. Leveling is much faster and doesn’t drag, mostly thanks to anet improving heart quests. =)
I’m okay unlocking weapon skills that way, as it seemed like I really DO unlock important things…. (and well I do)
I also talked with some other new people and they seemed pretty happy with this state of the game, not so much for the vets.
Here is the list of things I STILL think were a bad decision and need to be fixed:
- Traits, move them to level 10, or level 15 tops, PLEASE. It’s still not enough to play around with for most people. (So I feel)
- Salvage kits, for some reason I can’t buy them at level 7, I have no idea why? Whatever the reason, it was a bad idea.
- Rallying shouldn’t have to be unlocked, another bad decision, confusing players even more than having it from the start.
- Vistas, underwater combat, personal story etc. shouldn’t(at least imo) be unlocked by leveling. Gear rewards, skill points, stats and information about different things are sufficient.
As for the things I like:
- Every level actually means something.
- New players don’t have to be worried about wearing level 2 gear until they are level 20 or so thanks to leveling rewards.
- First few levels(1-10) especially were a bit dull for me, now it’s way easier to level at the beggining.
- Dodging tutorial is a very good thing; I had people who didn’t know they can dodge at level 20 or so.
- Other tutorials and tips, these are useful.
- Dynamic beggining of the game in general; you managed to make it interesting and pretty fluid.
Please reconsider changing the things I didn’t like. I’m sure they would be a benefit to nearly everyone.
Just pick whatever pet you want to. You can eventually gather all of them anyway. Have fun and message me in the game if you need help in the future.
Temple Karma armor is 288K for a full set. Keep in mind that currently you cannot get the upgrades OFF this armor so think hard about putting high priced upgrades on it.
It’s actually 252 000 karma.* Just wanted to point it out. XD
Thanks, all, for your posts.
I played WoW for more than 6 years and got heartily weary of crafting. It had a few uses: potions were good, food was good, but the others consumed endless time and ingredients and weren’t worth much. The things I could make (even rare ones) I would make for guildies who asked me or put in the guild bank. Occasionally, briefly, there’d be one high level item that sold for a lot, but not often. I’m not saying I won’t eventually give it a shot in this game, but not for a while – maybe when my first one levels up to 80.
I’m having fun currently, enjoying how much friendlier and more cooperative GW2 players are. I’ve got a lot of zones, vistas, points of interest and waypoints to find.
I’ll continue, then, to stock up Karma, check out each Karma merchant I meet for something besides parsley or oregano or the like, and maybe I will find it useful one day.
Do that, 252 000 karma will get you an exotic level 80 armour set for any class. They look pretty good too, especially the light armour on female characters.
Kind of makes me wonder if anet didn’t intend for Cobalt to be a legendary. Think about it – Ebonblade looks almost exactly the same, but has no flames on it(possible precursor). Cobalt’s effect is similar to those of legendaries imo.
In any case, please don’t get rid off those flames. If you don’t like them, simply apply Ebonblade skin on your weapon.
I’ve been playing a few months now and have four characters. In my Wallet I have 106,000 Karma and some change. I’ve checked out Karma Merchants up to level 60 and they really don’t sell items worth having. Does it perhaps get a lot better when you’re at a high level?
I don’t craft because I’ve been warned you can’t make a lot of gold by crafting (I gather and sell the gathers instead) and it seems that Karma Merchants have a lot of items to be used in crafting. Is that the whole purpose of Karma?
You SHOULD be doing some crafting. I have no idea who told you that. No, you can’t make much money off of it unless you try really hard, but it’s still enjoyable and allows you to create best gear in the game. Not to mention all the bonus experience your character receives. (7-10 levels per crafting discipline)
.
He’s beautiful!
What region do you play on? I see dwayna capture events going from time to time, so if I see one and you’re on NA, I can try messaging you.
I play on European server….
BUT I managed to do the event once! So there’s hope.
That way we can all dress in a style we’re comfortable with and still have pretty armour to look at. Currently the choices for women are mainly “mostly naked” or “wearing a garbage bag”, and those for men mostly “covered in something nondescript” or “metal, metal EVERYWHERE”.
Skimpy, attractive male armour would be a good start.
Thank you for saying this. I really believe the part I bolded here is what’s most vital; that we can dress as we want, depending on our preferences.
I get irritated with the people who act like how others dress is going to destroy their gameplay experience. As if they are the center of the MMO universe.
IKR?
My personal rule is that, as a female with video game physiology, I should try picturing myself wearing it. If I can’t picture myself in it, in public, without getting harrassed, then it’s not a good style for my characters to wear. Surprisingly many options in GW2 fail this test. That’s part taste, part lack in variety. A lot of the slightly less skimpy outfits somehow also fall into the dull range, and some of those that cover more skin come with convenient circle designs to overly accentuate certain bodyparts anyway as a form of decoration.
That doesn’t mean those armours are bad per se, or should go, just that the existing armours aren’t as diverse, creative or appealing as they could be.
I’m fine with other people wearing them. I mean, if I eyeroll at my screen or use it as a secret age/gender indication… who’ll know but me?
Maybe I should do a GW2 fashion police blog while we wait for that hawt half-naked male armour to appear in game. >.>
Do the blog, I’ll be your first fangirl.
I’m a guy, but just for you I’ll be a fangirl. XD
Honestly though, I’m curious how would that go.
Sadly I have no idea what do you mean, you can rotate this “terrible camera” in any direction you wish, and it’s not like you have to hurry in most of jumping puzzles. Though it is true that charrs seem to have harder time doing jumping puzzles, I think it’s just because of limited view in general during jumping.
First person camera would be appreciated though. Just imagine all the screenies you can take!
The armours in GW2…at least a majority of them isn’t that skimpy. You have plenty of armour variety that will make you look classy. (I know, because I have literally 8 female characters, different races and classes).
About the skimpy male armour – I guess it’s fair? XD Kind of scary, but fair.
I always wanted the ability to hide any armour part. That would be great.scary? I really dont think so.
But we already have 3 similar sets like that. Gladiator, Pit Fighter and Barbaric.
Adding another race to the list would also have to include:
- at least one new map (full of hearts, waypoints, vistas)
- maybe a new dungeon/mini-dungeon
- new interesting personal story
Which for me is a huge amount of content. I think everyone would love to see THIS change. Right?
I love that each level grants you rewards. =)
Edge of the Mists - just another WvW map, fun, but nothing new for pve players.
Edge of the Mists and even WvW at that are PvPvE Maps. Maybe not all PvE Players care about a mix of PvP and PvE but I am sure some find that suitable content for them.
Destroyed Lion’s Arch - no one cares.
Crown Pavilion - no one actually cares.I am a person and I care… and I am sure I am not the only one since the gauntlet had some of the most challenging solo content in the game and it took part right in the crown pavilion.
12 fractals - Perfect treat for masochists, but I guess it’s something.
Aetherblade Dungeon Path in TA - I don’t know anyone who enjoys it at all.You know you can play fractals casually right? you dont need to repeat them adinfinitium and turn them in a tedious task. I am not much of a dungeon player, certainly dont understand how people keep repeating dungeons for ages but I do enjoy the occational dungeon / fractal run.
Shame you dont know anyone who enjoys the new path, here meet some of them here:
Its on a 4 day rotation not exactly seasonal.
Cragstead - Don’t see too many people talking about this thing.
The Hatchery - I have no idea what that is.
New Mini Dungeons ? Forsaken Fortune, Vexa’s Lab - Seriously, no one does those unless they just happen to come by it or want to finish 100% of every map.Hatchery was the other map released with cragstead, its where you save frostbite from the molten alliance.
Also I am not sure how a map stops existing just cause it may not be that popular. Anyhow both those mini dungeons are also jumping puzzles so not sure how jumping puzzles are always fun but somehow not these two just cause there are mobs in them.
Maps Available During Events that occur periodically - I’m not sure what to say that. Are we nitpicking?
How are we nitpicking? once a year or not those maps didnt come out of the aether Anet had to create them and they take as much work as any other map to do. What difference does it make if its available 24/7 or once a year as long as it is content for you to enjoy. Do you play all content all the time? no I bet there is plenty of content available 24/7 that you havent touched in a year. A good example would be the hatchery I guess
[b]SAB – That’s also fun…ONCE A YEAR…sometimes once per 2 years.
Actually so far SAB was twice a year in the first year, once a year so far in the 2nd year. We never went 2 years inbetween SAB releases… so far.
Labyrinthine Cliffs? (may or may not coming back after the destruction of zephyr sanctum) - That’s a nice map, too bad it probably won’t appear ever again, unless the Lion’s Arch gets hurt again.
Its not so much as LA getting hurt again… that wouldnt matter no more zephr sanctum to aid LA anyway as more if they intend to use it for something else other then the bazaar. Or maybe a new sanctum after all it wasnt just one. anyhow we dont know hence why I marked it as an unknown.
Those are all, as you said, temporary. Woohoo.
I’m sorry if I sound rude, but I just don’t see all that much stuff to do. Especially that most of the things you listed is avaiable once a year for a month tops.
Temporary or not, it gave me content to play for a year and 1/2 . Without them the game would have been worst off .
Also with all due respect you need to count better. I listed 28 maps that are available 24/7, 9 that are seasonal and 7 that where temporary. Even adding those together most things I listed are available 24/7 (28 > 16)
Oh I can count (most of the time), I simply ignored all the “maps” (which should be called more like zones, at best) that aren’t worth exploring or visiting at all. I’m not a big PvP person and I dislike fractals due to players being bumhurt 24/7 over nearly everything, so forgive me if a PvE player like me doesn’t see much to do in the game.
What actually counts as a map? Dry Top and Southsun Cove.
Southsun Cove - awesome, this one definitely counts.
Edge of the Mists - just another WvW map, fun, but nothing new for pve players.
Dry Top - very nice looking map with an unique mechanic.
Destroyed Lion’s Arch - no one cares.
Crown Pavilion - no one actually cares.
4x PvP Maps (temple of the silent Storm, Spirit Watch, Sky Hammer, Courtyard) - that’s good for pvp players I guess?
12 fractals - Perfect treat for masochists, but I guess it’s something.
Aetherblade Dungeon Path in TA - I don’t know anyone who enjoys it at all.
Some new maps introduced in Guild Missions – that’s pretty decent.
Not so secret jumping puzzle - Jumping puzzles are always fun.
Sanctum Sprint - Seasonal, or once a week. Unless I’m mistaken.
Cragstead - Don’t see too many people talking about this thing.
The Hatchery - I have no idea what that is.
New Mini Dungeons ? Forsaken Fortune, Vexa’s Lab - Seriously, no one does those unless they just happen to come by it or want to finish 100% of every map.
Maps Available During Events that occur periodically - I’m not sure what to say that. Are we nitpicking?
Wintersday? Winter Wonderland, The Snowball mayhem arena, Bell Choir, Tixx’s Infinitariaum - Those are all fun…ONCE A YEAR
Halloween ? The Labyrinth, Mad King Clock Tower, Reaper Rumble - Those are all fun…ONCE A YEAR
SAB - That’s also fun…ONCE A YEAR…sometimes once per 2 years.
Labyrinthine Cliffs? (may or may not coming back after the destruction of zephyr sanctum) - That’s a nice map, too bad it probably won’t appear ever again, unless the Lion’s Arch gets hurt again.
Maps that where temporary:
Aetherblade retreat
Mad king dungeon
Reaper’s Rumble
Blood Prince Dungeon
Tower of Nightmares
Marionette Arena
Occupied Kesseks Hills
Those are all, as you said, temporary. Woohoo.
I’m sorry if I sound rude, but I just don’t see all that much stuff to do. Especially that most of the things you listed is avaiable once a year for a month tops.
I agree 100% with you op. I know there are the Anet yes men on here who would do anything Anet says, but the fact is you are speaking the truth. It has been two years and we had a piece of the map open, woohoo!
because of course if those “yes men” were to mention Anet released not just part of a new map since release but also Southsun, 12 fractals, 1 new dungeon path, some new jumping puzzles and guild missions, the crown pavillion, Edge of the mists, 4 new PvP Maps, cragstead, the hatchery, the mad realm, the wintersday realm thing and the toy apocalypse dungeon not to mention SAB as well as though temporarily they also worked on and released maps like the tower of nightmares, the mad king dungeon, scarlet’s play house, labyrinthean cliffs as well as release 2 reworked zones (kessex hills and LA) we’d be entirely lieing cause obviously only … “no men?” can be objective.
can we stop once and for all, ohh the opinion of those people who like the game and what arenanet are doing don’t count cause only people who dont like the game can be objective line once an for all. You got an issue please go ahead and speak it but can we refrain from opinion the whole argument by belittling those who might not agree with you?
If you put it this way, yes, they really added plenty of stuff for everyone. Except, most of the things you listen is either seasonal or gone. I can understand why things like Mad King Dungeon or Wintersday activities are seasonal, but what about SAB?
That’s the mode I had the most fun with, it was challenging, brutal at times and it was so much fun. I just don’t understand why would they make it appear once a year for a month or two. If they’re worried about the rewards – make them more expensive, but keep this thing 24/7 for the entire year so people can have something different once in a while.
I don’t really understand why would they remove anything, like Sclerite weapons? Those weapons were pretty nice.
Also – most the stuff you listed has pretty much no point.
I must admit, you’re pretty good with the dyes. Good job.
I don’t mind that they have dancing with cows now. I mind that they’re going back, throwing their entire quest system away in order to help clueless people figure out how to do basic things. The cows are an example. If the idea of changing weapons is so confusing, all they really had to do is to put a giant picture in the middle of the screen saying “YOU EQUIPPED A BUCKET, YOU CAN’T ATTACK STUFF, TO UNEQUIP IT, CLICK ~” and that would be sufficient.
Instead they decided to just change this entire thing around. And since it had to be a majority of people who had this kind of problem – I suspect that there won’t be any challenge in the future at all, since people won’t be able to figure it out.You can guide a person through the beggining, but what’s the point if that person lacks the ability to comprehend basic ideas, like watering the plants?
That’s the real issue….that and the fact that they would restrict players so much at the beggining.
As Tachenon said – first few hours of the game should be showing players what this game is about, let them have some fun, discover things for themselves. We don’t have that element in there now.It takes less than an hour to get to level ten now and after that the experience with hearts and events is largely the same, so you can’t say the first several hours have really changed. The first hour has changed. That’s assuming that the person in question didn’t hit the bandit event and get the heart without ever dancing in front of the cows (which happened to me when I tried it).
I highly doubt that it takes less than an hour, especially for a completely new player. Even if that’s true, it still makes the game way more tedious at the beggining. You have to wait until level 5 to rally; level 7 to get your 4th weapon skill; level 10 to start personal story and to actually discover vistas. And I’m sorry, but if these things were overwhelming for new players, chances are – they will get to level 10 in several hours.
I didn’t in fact ask you to ignore a year of wasted content. You expressed a concern at the speed of releases and I pointed out that the stuff you were talking about is being released faster in the new season. It’s called allaying concerns you brought up. Unless you just want to have concerns without taking into account that the landscape has changed.
Which would mean you want to complain and not hear anything at all that might allay your “fears”. The situation HAS changed. The new situation exists for a shorter period of time. It’s a bit premature to be scared.
Really? What changed? Do you see a new map, a new race, a new class? Did they do anything with the traits? They actually went backwards, making the beggining of the game extremely tedious and repetitive.
I’m afraid I have absolutely no idea about what are you talking about.
First of all, I’m not sure how you can say you’ve been playing for about three years when the game just hit it’s two year anniversary. Even the first beta wouldn’t make it that much and the beta weekends are a few weekends here and there.
The changes to level 1-10 would be irrelevant for most players. If that’s the kind of thing that makes you very very sad, I’m not sure what to tell you. I feel this is an over reaction.
I’ve not many anyone who thinks the new trait system is fun or good as it is, I’d have to agree with that.
But the one thing you’re not taking into account was the failed experiment that was Season 1 of the Living Story. While the game has undoubtedly been out for two years, the Living Story Season 1 took effort and time to create, but it didn’t further the game in the way that people wanted it too. All that new stuff is not in the game, but also, stuff like classes and races and maps took a back seat.
The new living story is only a three months old now, we have a new zone with more promised next month. So your calculations on timing are a bit off. If you start by looking at the Living Story now, as compared to the Living Story a year ago,. you’ll see were’re getting newer areas to explore rather more often.
And Anet has said straight out they didn’t want to add a lot of new zones until the megaserver was in place, because they didn’t want old zones to get deserted. So until April 15, they really didn’t want to work on or add new zones.
You’re probably worrying too much about how much content is actually coming and the form it will take. I agree we do need a new profession/race and more maps.
I simply believe you’ll start seeing that stuff coming. In fact, we already have with the maps.
I just hit my second birthday on the character I made at least few months after the game release, that’s why I said nearly 3 years and so I have no idea why would you say the game had “2 year anniversary” not that long ago. I do apologize for this minor mistake though.
The changes they made for early levels might be irrelevant to you, but it’s thanks to the first few tries that people decide if they either like the game or not. It’s hard to interest a friend to play this game when they give such harsh restrictions through the first few levels.
I’m not sure why would you want me to just ignore that year of wasted content, especially that our new living story didn’t offer much neither, except for a few pretty nice-looking cutscenes. They clearly still put all of their focus on living story and new players, forgetting that vets might not have anything to do. So I’m sorry that I don’t share your optimism, Vayne. Some people simply won’t wait 2 years for a real piece of content.
I do hope that you’re right though, because I simply won’t take waiting another 2 years for a new map. (And by new map, I mean one that doesn’t appear once a year for 2 weeks or so).
I subscribe to the above mentioned concerns !
And once again, since a certain nobody on this forum seem to have an answer for everything and an already dangerous, pathological urge to kiss buttocks, I’ll present them in a shorter/easier way:
Is GW2 some sick reincarnation of “Young & Restless” ?!
Are we doomed to log in and stare at the screen for the next 30-40 years, waiting for the world map to become available and filled with playable content ?
Are we supposed to pass this game to our kids, as a family legacy ?
I can only imagine something like
“-Listen, son, I have something very important to tell you… You know, the money I have put aside and the house and all… You will get all of them, of course, but only when you have successfully covered the entire world map in the game that my father started to play way back in the stone age. You know I tried to continue his quest, my son. I tried my best, God knows I tried, your mother knows I tried, and I can only hope that ArenaNet knows as well, God bless their souls. But I’m old now, my sight grew dim and my hands are not able to hold the mouse anymore … Now promise you’ll continue my work and let me die in peace…”
That’s actually pretty hilarious…and sad. XD
Why are people so upset about the cows? Just don’t get the horror of it all. As for storytelling games now remind me of penny dteadfuls, all games. You put out content to be mass consumed, take it for what it is.
Because COWS ARE AWESOME. How can you not agree that the idea of feeding cows is genius?
Seriously though, I’m a bit worried, because anet has this amazing quest system with basically lack of limitations. It’s worrying that they would go back, use less of it simply because people can’t connect the dots. I’m afraid that they might ‘dumb down’ the game for everyone in the future.
(edited by Yoroiookami.3485)
That’s…I’m…umm…good job. _
Moving on, another problem I have is the actual content. A new map (Dry Top) has been added around 2 years after the game launched. No new races, no new classes. Just one map in 2 years of time. Does it mean that they plan to complete the world map creation in around 30-40 years? Because that’s a bit long…or maybe that’s just my opinion.
That’s the part of the game I like the most though, and that’s why I’m a bit worried. I have 11 characters, all classes, all races, most of them are level 80. And I have nothing to do. Maybe my standards are too high, but you would think that they would add new classes or races, considering how many character slots you can own.
I never played in Guild Wars 1, I would absolutely love to play as one of those Tengu people I heard so much about. I’d rather wait 6 months for this one race than get 6 months worth of personal story and other content. Please guys, move in that direction.
My biggest problem though, is the way leveling up works. And this has been said many times now. Since the trait update, getting from level 1-60 has become a CHORE.
There is absolutely nothing fun about getting few skillpoints every few levels. For some reason, you also did the absolute opposite thing of what you were supposed to do with traits.
Let me put it this way – when you start (nowadays), you can use one weapon skill. That’s it. You slowly unlock new things, and maybe if you somehow manage to survive the lack of choices until level 50, you might get interested in the game. New players who didn’t play in GW1 will probably never purchase a game that gives them so little choices at the beggining.
And yes, I realize getting levels in this game is pretty easy, but it also used to be fun! I remember how much fun I used to have unlocking new traits and skills, getting new gear.
Now you have one skill, one weapon set (until like level 10 or 15), no traits to fool around with and anything that you get, that isn’t either rare or exotic, is complete garbage. When I first started playing, I was actually happy whenever I found blues and greens. I felt like I have to be careful with my money. Sometimes I would run around the map instead of using waypoints, just to be able to afford to fix my gear. AND IT WAS SO MUCH FUN.
Now it’s not. Everything is either free, easy, or requires for you to grind day and night.
Please give people (especially new players) more space. Let them try out traits, let them work on builds, let them find out how they want to play BEFORE they hit level 80. I guarantee you that it would make the game so much better.
Whenever you have a 50% off sale, or you allow people to try the game out, I actually let most of my friends who didn’t buy the game know. I’m trying to convince them that it’s worth buying. But as the time goes, I feel more and more like I’m lying to them. Mostly, because this game isn’t going in the direction I hope/feel it should be going. And sadly, I’m not the only one.
I probably have more things to say, but I feel like I poked the most important things. Again, this is just my personal opinion, my views – you don’t have to agree with them. I just feel like improving these things would make the experience for every player out there much more fun.
Thanks to everyone who actually read this.
Let me start by saying that this post might be a bit long and hard to read for some people. I also don’t want it to be a typical “GW2 is crap now, I’m leaving” topic. I actually LIKE the game, most people on these forums probably do. I just want to point out a few things that bother me, so they can improve the experience for people like me.
As a guy who have been playing for around 3 years, I feel like they keep adding more and more content focused around new players, while forgetting about veterans. Personal story might be an exception, but not everyone likes it. I feel extremely “meh” about it. I only ever finish it, because I have literally nothing else to do in the game.
Here’s a list of changes I actually liked:
- Dye system, good job on that one,
- Skins; Transmutation Charges,
- Vault for minis
- New titles and achievements
- All the little things
- Megaservers
- Tutorials for new players
Unfortunately, even those things have its faults. Because of megaservers, some events became easier to participate in, while others are extremely hard to do. For example – I couldn’t manage to do Dwayna for the entire day. Just because the temple wouldn’t get contested.
Tutorials are a good thing for new, inexperienced players, but they also “dumb down” the entire starting area. It’s good that you require newbies to learn dodging, but why all the limitations? There is no need to give them 1 weapon skill at a time. There’s no need to give them things like reviving other players and using waypoints over time. It’s easy.
If you look at Archage, it has an enormous world with hundreds of options and features and people are OKAY. They slowly learn how to do things.
I’m afraid that putting diapers over players will make the game unbearable at some point.
The saddest example is probably one quest about helping a lady on her farm in Queensdale. You’re supposed to help her with feeding cows, watering the plants, killing bandits, getting rid off the wurms. If you talk to her, she will ask you for help. You have a sign telling you what to do, yet, apparently, some players can’t connect the dots. Because of that, aNET decided to accomodate their lack of ability to think and they made it much easier.
That makes me sad. Very, very sad.
I know not everyone knows everything at the beggining of the game, but something as simple as that shouldn’t make any problems to begin with.
There’s a cow, there’s a bag of feed next to it. How can you NOT figure out that you’re supposed to feed it, with a giant sign telling you to do so? I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but I just can’t figure it out.
Oh God…well, I guess either I spend my time farming gold like a typical player and buy all the items required, or I will never get my Acolyte of Dwayna title, will I?
That is actually pretty sad…
I agree with you completely. That’s all I wanted to say. This IS the truth.
But I love that it gives the light. Do you realize how awesome it is? It’s like a torch that doesn’t turn off each time you take damage, it’s amazing!
For the entire day, I’ve been trying to kill Dwayna. Unfortunately, no server seems to have this temple closed at all. Does anyone know if there is some website where the players tell eachother if temples are open, or anything like that? Or do I have to check every 30 minutes if the temple is contested, hoping to catch up to the group before Dwayna dies?
And aNET – I know it’s my choice to spend most of my day standing completely still at Tempest Waypoint, but could you please change these (apparently) insane spawning spans? I literally stood still for around 2 hours on the same map, on the same server and nothing happened. Please turn it up a notch. Thanks.
I use this trait 70% of the time, especially in WvW where there are tons of mountains and cliffs. It’s not useless at all, it saved my skin many times.
