Is there any horses in Tyria?
Both lore-wise and in-game.
I sincerely believe that all horses in Tyria were brutally slaughtered by charrs. I think they started using cows when they ran out of horses to use in their battles…
Would love to if I didn’t do it over and over again a few times already. I’m up for helping out with the game though. =)
If healing power had an effect on outgoing healing it might be run more often.
But it does. Compared to how HP scales with dedicated healing skill, it scales well with regular skills, like empower, ele water skills etc., traited mesmer mantras probably as well, blasts on water fields etc.
Actually even in high level FotM people sometimes like to have one celestial guardian, or ele, or engi. Used to be that way, at least.
Does it?
“Healing Power, also known as Compassion, is a secondary attribute that improves all healing performed by the character, including healing from the regeneration boon and rejuvenation. Healing power does not affect the revival process.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Power
“…For instance, each point of Healing Power adds 0.125 healing for Regeneration, 0.06 healing for Rejuvenation.”
Is it really worth it? =( I would say invest in other attribute, you can still heal well enough without it.
Capes? Oh, would buy…………
Woah, forget the capes, I want that coat-like armour for heavy class!
Nomad ele..
lol. What a waste of a party slot. You clearly have not run with one lol. Makes our FoTM50 seem like a FoTM5…
But then again I don’t subscribe to any meta. I don’t mind the pace being slower if it is easier. Some people like playing the harder content like FoTM50 casually, maybe while drinking a beer and watching TV. Maybe missing some dodges here and there y because that one Victoria’s Secret commercial came on. That’s where a Nomad ele comes in….
Don’t knock it til you try it. Unless you are a min/maxer and aren’t satisfied with anything that isn’t the absolute fastest run possible with no down-time and no tolerance for people having “fun” during the srsbznz that is GW2.
I mean…3k aoe heals from their auto-attack…yea…I’ll take some of that on my fractals runs… Good players are good players regardless of build. Sure your completion time will vary depending on stats build, but the difficulty/focus needed will vary as well. I like my casual pace just fine. I also respect the zerker meta that likes to complete content quickly. Different strokes, people, different strokes…
As much as I would love healing power to actually mean something, I can’t help but notice how much more fun the game is after I changed my elementalist build from healer to a proper dps.
It’s really unrewarding compared to other playstyles, but if it works for you – I can’t complain.
I mean – it’s all over the place in the concept art. Here’s some examples :
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Legacy_of_the_Foefire_loading_screen.jpg
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Forest_of_Niflhel_loading_screen.jpgAre those backpacks? No.
Do they look awesome? YES! So why not bring them back? They seem to be a huge fan favorite.
I guess it may be because of all the clipping involved in GW2? They still didn’t fix most of the issues for low-ress textures(armour) and clipping for classes like charrs and asuras, so I doubt that capes would be their priority right now. =(
Because you HAVE TO play it for achievements
:D
Well some people feel compelled to. Think about it this way – it’s free 50 achievement points. (Which is a lot)
If they didn’t do it, they would feel like they’re missing out. I guarantee you that no one would play this if it only offered 1 point every 5 matches.
One new trait-line for each race! How cool would it be to have two of you favorite profession, and each of them were unique in look and playstyle?
It sounds fun, but also a bit forced. What kind of traits do you have in mind?
Propositions:
- Bonus x vitality/toughness for drunk Norns,
- 15-30 healing/health regen for Sylvari while standing in water,
- 20% lower falling damage for Charrs.
- 3% chance for Asuras to randomly avoid an attack, 5% under the effect of swiftness.
- 30% faster gathering for Humans.
My reasoning was mostly based on shapes and nature of these races. =P
I blocked a person who was way too friendly.
I never add any asuras to my party because I simply despise the entire race.
I block people making “100k g pls” jokes without feeling any guilt whatsoever.
I hate that elementalists use the mist when rallying, in the middle of me ressing them.
I’m addicted to character creation. Just that part of the game.
I have never succeeded in getting anything amazing in mystic forge, I’ve lost thousands of gold on it, and yet I still try from time to time.
I’m able to dislike players for simply having a commander tag.
I actually dislike skritts.
I spend way too much time doing jumping puzzles.
(edited by Yoroiookami.3485)
It’s weird how no one mentioned crafting. Crafting is the fastest but costs some gold unless you’ve got materials. I usually just go to Edge of The Mists. =)
I think that taking off these restrictions for players who have played for over 1 year would solve the problem. Either that, or keep it as an achievement chest reward. Might sound silly, but it fixes 2 issues at once. (Messaging problems, achievement chest rewards)
Except for the fact that it is quite possible for the gold-sellers to use veteran accounts that have been stolen and thus bypassing the restriction.
That’s what account recovery is for. Should we really base the changes on the idea that some people might steal some of the older accounts?
And it doesn’t have to work that way neither. Just give veterans bonus 5 or so messages before they get the error.
Problem is, Tolunart, is that I was 100% new to MMO’RPG’* when I came here, and I never needed the NPE despite not knowing anything about stats, rarity, traits, anything. I asked in chat to learn things, despite being socially reclusive, and enjoyed the experience. NPE turns an MMO into a single player game and people don’t learn that way.
But I see what you mean about target market. I guess veterans and player retention is not their target market. China is, it appears.
Yoroiookami – you have WAY too many vowels in your name :p
Never enough vowels!

One thing that comes to mind for me: this skritt has an astounding memory.
On topic, though, I’ve handed him about 50 wrappers now, all from trick-or-treat bags. Chances are, if you converted those gems to gold and bought ToT bags from the TP, you would have gotten more wrappers.
I found around 50 as well. I have a feeling like there’s some sort of limit to the amount of candy wrappers you can get. Like in the first 20 or so minutes I found 7 wrappers, and then for another 40 minutes there didn’t seem to be any. =)
Or perhaps it’s just really…random.
I really miss the PvP gear. It was the reason I even wanted these chests in the first place. I guess they could replace these with a pool of random skins that could drop? =( Or make some new ones just for those chests.
It’s an MMO that removes a lot of the frustrations of MMOs before it. If you love traditional MMOs it’ll take some adjustment. If you’re frustrated by traditional MMOs, then this might be a good alternative for you.
This…

valid, but arena net seems to excel at their side and viciously neglect the other.. in removing traditional frustrations they submit their own.. i’d really like to see them refine instead of cater to the zombie consumer crowd.. that is the only way i really see this franchise retaining its longevity
And this…
These are the best ways to describe it.
Cheers to those who posted supportive messages… and some of those who did not, you made me laugh!
Guhracie – thanks for the tip on the sale! I just picked up the massive pack for £17. Looks like it may be the game to satisfy me until Cyberpunk 2077 is complete. I have always preferred modern/dark future RPG, and loved APB and Crimecraft, so it might be right up my alley.
Vayne – you hit the nail on the head with the word ‘disenfranchised’. Its a great way to describe how I feel. I poured hours upon hours of myself into this game, and I in no way regret that OR my several hundred pounds worth of spending in the gem store.
I don’t hate the game, rather I still love it, but I feel left out of the loop. I just don’t feel that I connect with it anymore. The April patch and the lack of response to criticisms and issues that arose from that have left me feeling like I don’t matter anymore.
CMM – would you like me to post my account login screens to prove I am a genuine 2-year-plus player?
V…Vayne was just quoting.
Take care Guzzi. I still log in to chat with few guild members, but there’s just not much to do other than that. I too hope that other people are having fun with the game.
Hopefully the new update will have some interesting features.
“First few months: The most fun and well-made mmorpg experience that is out in the world right now.
About a year: Fun endgame experience with very wide character cutomization.
Two years and more: Grinding simulator with occassional gem store updates…”
At least that’s how I feel.
Unless I misread. Some guy said he got 13+ THOUSAND of these things from 1.2million bags. When I saw that I sure wasn’t paying 500 gems for a mere…25!!
(I could be wrong however).
That’s where a wonder called RNG kicks in, where it completely disgregards these entries and picks someone who has 5 foil wrappers. =)
Well he’s not exactly challenging, but I don’t think they wanted him to be. That’s GW2 of today – casual fun for everyone. If you want challenge, I suggest you put your own objectives, like “kill Bloody Prince Thorn using chat emotes”…
It’s not as frustrating as it seems. Tested it on my brand new mesmer norn – I did some heart quests in sylvari area and quickly got to level 10. You get around 1/2 level a heart nowadays, so you can easily just push your way to unlock things if you wish to do so.
(Although these simplified heart quests are ridiculous XD)
“The complainers” clearly want to make the game better for themselves and other players, what’s wrong with that? Criticism is a good thing. Sometimes you have to show the things you love some harsh love for their own good.
Oh boy. I only found 5 so far. I guess my chances are pretty slim against people who actually spend money on those.
Well, good luck!
On the flip side, the people who actually spend money on them keep the lights on so that the rest of us can play for free. Not a bad trade off, in my book.
You can get them from opening the Trick or Treat bags, though the rate is pretty low (about 1 in 100 bags).
I managed to get over 30 so far, it’s going well. =)
I’m excited and I hope that there will actually be stuff to do! Please don’t dissappoint us.
Dwayna bumps this topic!
I still mostly get questions from people who see my message in the game, but it’s good to have it here as well. =)
I dislike that change as well, but if it helps new players, then maybe it’s worth it. I don’t know, I don’t really understand the difficulty of feeding cows with bags of feed lying next to them…
Feel free to add me to fool around as well!
Hi there
I guess I’ll add my name here ‘case anyone wants two friends :P I’m super casual, not the most knowledgeable player out there, but hey if anyone wants to frolic through PvE or goof around in more competitive things then I’m up for it! My main character’s a charr warrior named Catsin and I hang out in Darkhaven NA server. Also, if anyone were to ever want to go exploring just to take screenshots, I would be 100% there. Just sayin’
Also this screenshot idea sounds great for a screenie-junkie like me. I have 5 folders full of GW2 screenshots already. =)
The newly added refractors which drop from Trick O’ Treat Bags. =) Look it up on wiki or forums.
I think that’s an okay idea, although in my case it would put too much strain on my PC. (Ram, mostly)
That’s awesome! Thanks!
I think that could be useful. Or, they could allow players with Makeover Kits to try out their new looks for 5 minutes, or something like that. That way you’re sure that you get what you really want. =)
In terms of world bosses and pve “armor” really doesn’t matter. While Vitality can help with condition damage and overall health pool. Toughness is usually negated just because the hits they make are so big overall.
That´s completly wrong.
With enough thoughness/protection/traits and healing power u can facetank every singel encounter in this game.
Vitality is what is not needed. Vita and heal power fill the same role. Vita is for short fights, to absorb some burst, healpower is for longer fights.
Actually, vitality is much more useful than toughness.
Vitality:
- Better resistance to conditions
- Higher health pool in general
- Hard to gain aggro
Toughness:
- High aggro from pretty much any monster
- Conditions kill you easily
- Can take a few more hits
At least from my experience.
You also don’t seem to understand the concept of healing power and vitality. Healing Power only boosts few healing skills and some regeneration buffs. Vitality lets you keep high health pool.
(edited by Yoroiookami.3485)
3200-3400 is pretty good…if I remember correctly, it’s been a while.
Best if you invest in some vitality instead, to be honest.
How about a malicious Santa-like beast who terrorises Norn’s homeland? That could be fun~
I’m still wondering why i can’t open any of those big chests after killing one of those big bosses in the halloween farm event.
You can only open one chest a day.
I really like the game’s UI. It’s pretty easy to find everything. Though it can be a bit confusing for a new player.
i opened the chest and got no choice at all, i got a mask and a lame one at that……
be glad you had a choice, now i have a skin i’ll probably never use but is account bound…..sigh -_-
That’s not what we’re discussing here, friend. The chest you get for Mad King Says is different to a chest you get at the end of Clocktower jumping puzzle. Now that you mention it, though, it’s a bit funny that you get a nice skin for doing something so simple, and you get a choice of useless items for finishing a challenging jumping puzzle.
I actually like the current system. It’s engaging enough as it is. You go ahead and use this mod, but don’t force other players to use it. =)
GW2’s Jehova Witnesses…
Dont want this to become a negative post, so please behave!
Dear Anet we’ve seen that you are capable with the system used to acquire Mawdrey, can we have a bit less lottery, raffle and rng fest and some meaningful content where we work for a goal that is certain?
As a player with over 2k hours and no precursors or any drop worth 15g in that time. I much prefer to play content that will reward me at completion.
So please keep it mind for the next content release?!
ThanksI personally found Mawdrey creation to be highly frustrating. At first it was fun, but then there was a time wall, then another one…
Can we haz less grind in the future patches as well?I agree. the entire mawdrey track went like this:
1) wiki tells me I need A, you get that by finding B and crafting it with C. C I have, B is picked up from this world boss (note to self: wait for that world boss)
2) wiki says I craft A with D to make E, I have D, just waiting on B to get A
3) wiki says I find F and G at these two locations, craft them to make H
4) wiki says to make I, I craft J from K, L, and M. but I need 7 of them and can only make 1 per day. great.
5) wiki says I craft 7 I’s with E to make N
6) world boss to get B showed up, time to craft A, then E, then N, then wait for 6 more I’s before I craft those and make O
7) wiki says I get P from this vendor and feed it to OI think you get the point. “wiki says”. the whole thing is just a big shopping list about gathering the collection of material, with the sporadic unnecessary time gate. too time-wastey imo.
Thats one of the problems of adding hard content these days. You just look up what you need to do to achieve something and rush through content.
The game doesn’t exactly do a great job of telling you what to do. You pretty much have to guess which ingredients you have to use, how many you have to use and where you have to use them. Not to mention, that if I wasted more time on it, I would be much more kittened off at how cheap it is. (And by cheap, I mean bad)
Tip: Turn down all of your graphics. Additional FPS really do make a difference.
Finally a skin that isn’t a laser show! Is not made of light, fire, is not tacky and overdone! It looks menacing, it is rusty, it’s a beautiful tool for any sadistic butcher, me included. Thanks!
What kind of a person doesn’t like colors ? I mean I’m glad you finally got a weapon you like, but come on.
Some people often find dark/ugly/rusty weapons and armours to be much better in rpgs, as they are closer realistically to the true world. I know it from a friend who prefers worn-out weapons/armours in games simply because it makes it more real.
and why Can’t you get all 3? have it reset or something, I got stuck with the light ones because I thought I could get all 3
It’s not like it matters. These skins are fairly easy to obtain in PvE. :I
A year ago, I thought that the Mad King Chest gives you a choice of 3 unique skins, and that each part will be revealed each year. I only found out some time ago, that the skin isn’t original, and it’s a choice of gauntlets yet again. So I was slightly dissappointed.
I’d like to ask developers – why these rewards? Aren’t they really easy to get? The jumping puzzle itself is fun (for some), yes, but why these particular rewards?
It just seems really random to me. Why not give us something unique like “Mad King’s Pony mini”?
~ Confused player.
I think this thread is pretty good evidence that the value of skins is incredibly subjective. Sometimes a cool skin is going to be basic, gritty, realistic or plain. Other times a god’s hand come from the sky to hand you a universe tearing, light sparkling, night glowing mace that may not compel awe as much as it will force other around you to dance until the stubs of their bones beat a catchy cadence for your amusement.
You! Stop fooling around and give us Legendary Quaggan Armour! XD
Ah. I was waiting for a group of people who will say something positive about it. I myself find it pretty ugly, but I’m glad you guys are happy.

It’s not. It’s wasting my time which annoys me. If I have all the ingredients needed and I want to craft something, but the game tells me that I can’t, of course I will be annoyed.
If I then finish making the item after 7 days and the game tells me that I have to do the same for another item, of course I will be even more annoyed.
If, after that, the game will ask me to do the entire thing again(and it does, the alternative is stopping at pretty much useless backpack), of course I will be both annoyed, frustrated and sick of it.
Then the game shows me that there’s another way – buying all of these items from the trading post. In other words – if you’re rich, Guild Wars 2 is going to be fun. If not, you will spend a month grinding in Dry Top. I’m sorry, but that doesn’t sound appealing at all. You’re talking to a guy who has 100% world completion, 13 characters with mostly level 80 and pretty decent end gear, around 11 000AP and a bank full of valuable items, Sunrise amongst them.
I DO NOT mind challenge or investing time and effort in making things. It’s brainless grind and game showing me the middle finger that is the problem. Mawdrey crafting is a disaster.it seems there are 2 different conversations going here. Alot of people are using mawdrey as an EXAMPLE of a way that an item can be rare but still be assured of obtaining it given a set of activities/steps. Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems Yoroiookami’s main complaint is about the timegates implemented not the mechanic itself? If that is correct, then both might agree that the concept is good but implementation might require some tweaking.
I am not angry about the fact that it requires work from me. I am annoyed by the way it was designed and set, yes. I am also annoyed that it benefits the rich players over ‘hard workers’.
I think that will happen as long as things are not account bound. The current method to get precursors is HEAVILY weighted toward rich players over ‘hard workers’ for example. Perhaps in the case of mawdrey, there should be 2 recipes for the time gated items 1 that is not timegated but causes the item to be account bound and another that is timegated but produces an item not account bound. I dont know.
Sure, there are some tweaks in the implementation on mawdrey crafting, but it is (to me anyway) absolutely a better overall method.
That could help, but I doubt any changes will be made at all. I already accepted that I probably won’t finish Mawdrey, I just argued for the sake of future items.

Work towards a goal? The process of making Mawdrey:
- Grind geodes for recipes and claypot, or grind gold to buy them
- Grind some more gold for the ingredients, because actually looking for them takes more time, effort and is frustrating.
- Craft one part of the Mawdrey each day, for 7 days. (fun)
- Combine Mawdrey in the mystic forge with few ingredients that actually didn’t require grinding. (surprisingly)
- Repeat either until you ragequit, get poor, or someone lets you know how it’s not even worth doing
- Make sure to grind some more gold to get your crafting to level 500, in case you want an ascended Mawdrey.Yeah, SOOO MUCH WORK put into this. I can feel all of the joy…
Yes, I’m being sarcastic. That’s not how working on things should be.
The only enjoyable part of creating Mawdrey for me, was the process of gathering ingredients and upgrading them. (Like Vial of Oasis Water etc.)That’s because you weren’t efficient about making Mawdrey.
I got the geodes I needed in about 3 hours and I barely did any grinding. I found a map full of people willing to push Zephyrite Favor as high as possible and I helped them towards that goal. I only started grinding geodes when the sandstorm came as those events give a lot more. Being as I was jumping from event to event the entire time while coordinating with others to do it efficiently, it certainly didn’t feel like a grind.
I did grind for Foxfire but I was smart about it. I parked 6 of my 7 characters by a ring of elder saplings and rotated though them once an hour as that is their respawn rate. It took about 3 minutes to go through them all. The rest of the time, I did whatever I wanted. Sometimes I’d just sign on, gather and sign off. I also sold Foxfires and plantfood at first because it was permanent content and I could do it whenever I wanted. It was far more profitable to cash in on those that just had to have it first.
Crafting plant food once every seven days just insured my profit margin window lasted longer. I took advantage of it as long as I could.
I actually enjoyed hunting down the individual pieces because they took me back to places I had forgotten about. Sometimes, after collecting, I would stop and take in the scenery as well as a few screenshots. Some corners of this game are truly breathtaking, even without a bleeding edge graphics engine.
There are ways to get crafting to 500 while actually making money. It just takes knowledge, planning and patience.
In the end, I crafted my Mawdey 2 months after it was released, made about 50g in profit and didn’t experience a bit of burnout. In fact, I was achieving other goals while doing this one.
Now consider the contrast of trying to get the Sunless staff which is a completely random drop from Tequatl. As much as I enjoy that battle, I’m left a little bit more bitter than the last time because I have yet to get an ascended chest and no amount of knowledge, planning or patience is going to get me any closer to getting it.
I’m glad that you had a fun with it, but even when you described it this way, it still sounds like some kind of chore to me. If players have to ‘abuse’ the game system by switching between characters in order to farm foxfire(which I congratulate you of doing efficiently), there is something wrong with it. In other words – even if you enjoyed developers spitting on you – other people might feel like they could do a much better job.
It seems as soon as you have to invest some time into acquiring something, its a grind for you.

For me, it was a nightmare. After I found out that it was just step 1 and that I have to repeat the process to get a ‘higher tier’ Mawdrey, I really wanted to leave the game for good. It was the final straw, though instead I decided to just leave the whole Mawdrey thing. I actually felt like I was being punished for trying to craft the entire thing myself instead of buying items from trading post. Bad experience. Very bad experience.
