I disagree with this statement. This skill is immensely useful, when used in combat, as intended (hint: it isn’t to run away).
…this skill is intended to be used in combat, for all of the previously stated reasons, as well as one that you covered. That being to offset the penalty of going into combat.

You don’t need faster movement speed while in combat. Most enemies don’t run away from you, if anything they do the opposite. It’s unnecessary and I would love to see the swiftness being swapped for something more useful. Either make it a skill to gain mobility, or make it a skill used for combat.

It sounds like this issue could be resolved if you made a minimal effort to either go around mobs a tiny bit more or use the skills just prior to running straight through it/them rather than while right on top of them.

It’s not that small. Especially in crowded areas and in Orr, where most enemies can see you from across the map. Your mistake was assuming that I don’t make effort to avoid enemies. My entire point is that now it’s significantly less reliable with warrior wielding a warhorn. Which is true. And it’s also an unnecessary change for such a small ‘upside’.

The skill will only help you escape via crippling them.

I agree with your point, but if the skill was intended for combat, I’d prefer something else in place of (mostly useless) swiftness. Enemies approach you most of the time, you don’t really need bonus speed. If the skill was intended for ‘running’ I’d rather use it to run past the enemies without going into combat, which in turn slows me down.

go D/WH and you will see why it is a really powerful skill, especially in big crowds it makes killing enemies a walk in a park.

I never said that it’s not powerful in combat. I simply see it as a skill that has the wrong mix of buffs that don’t make much sense together.

Warhorns are awful.

Locust Swarm is one of the Warhorn skills for Necromancers.
Its description reads “Gain swiftness and summon a swarm of locusts that cripple nearby foes.”

Firstly, I don’t think that combining swiftness with any skill that damages enemies is a good idea. When you engage in combat, it slows your movement speed by 33%. Swiftness negates this effect, but that’s all it does.

Secondly, swiftness is generally used to run around the map. It’s especially useful if you’re aiming for map completion. Having an AOE aura that damages everything around you makes it pointless in more crowded areas.

Thirdly, the only time this skill is truly useful is when you’re already in combat and want to get away. As a Necromancer with bonus health (Death Shroud), I don’t think this happens very often.

And to top it all off, Necromancer has many other (better) opportunities to increase its movement speed. For example:
- Quickening Thirst
- Speed of Shadows
- Signet of the Locust

To sum it all up, you have a skill that allows you to move fast. At the same time it slows you down if you hit anything. It’s only useful if you plan to run away, but that probably won’t happen. And additionally other skills do it better. Its only upside is the ability to cripple, but swiftness could easily be changed for something more useful.

I’d like to either see it be a pure swiftness skill, maybe with regeneration. Or a damaging skill, a mix of cripple + poison.

After one of the updates, warhorn for warrior became only usable in battle as well. In the past I used it for bonus dodges, to avoid fighting at all. Who wants to get slowed down by 33% while they’re trying to get somewhere? Now instead of letting me dodge out of battles, it causes them with its giant AOE. I don’t know if other players like it, but I definitely don’t.
“Grant vigor to yourself and allies, while weakening nearby foes.”.
And all of that just for ‘weakening’ enemies you didn’t intend to fight in the first place.

Might just be my opinion, though.

This is definitely worse than last year. I do tribulation daily and monkeys seem to always run INTO my character, even though they use ranged attacks. They just push me back, messing up my progress countless times. I hope this will be fixed next year, since it’s hardly fair, especially since you can’t dodge it. I tried.

It’s possible to get stuck in a frozen waterfall while holding a cloud in tribulation mode in world 2 zone 3. It’s a little infuriating since there is no way to reload from your last checkpoint, you can’t change your bundles, move, or dodge out of the waterfall.

All enemies push back simply by walking towards you. And sometimes they do it for no reason. So you essentially get punished for nothing without any chance of avoiding it. Dodging through monsters doesn’t work, dodging arrows in tribulation mode doesn’t work.

During SAB, there is a massive lag. It started lately. I now have 3-5 delay in skill/item use and half the time jumps don’t seem to work. Same for dodging.

I just wanted to ask if anet ‘broke’ SAB mobs this year even more? Everything they do seems to push me back, regardless if I’m dodging or not. There also seems to be some sort of delay (might be my internet problem) that even if I do dodge, I get pushed back half a second later in a random direction.

Should ANet change the Floppy Fish?

The new mini pet, a Krytan Floppy Fish, is a fish out of water. It has a gasping for air animation and flops around on the ground. The question is, should ANet keep this animation or change it to a swimming animation. On one hand it is only pixels. No animals are being harmed. On the other hand, it’s depicting an animal suffocating and dying. As for myself, while I know it’s not real it does give me an “Ick feeling” as I watched it lie there gasping for air, so I would vote for a change in animation. Your thoughts?

Are you serious? Should we also feel bad for the pixelated ambient animals we kill by accident in thousands? This fish is one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen. Besides, how do you even know if it needs to be in water? If you didn’t notice, our characters never drown or need air. This game isn’t exactly very realistic.

I don’t get it either. If you just want to run barefoot, you won’t pay 2999g for not seeing your shoes. If you have a fetish, you won’t pay 2999g because the textures are bad. Makes about as much sense as paying 2999g for a skimpy outfit on a female character with pixelated chest. Either way, I see no point in getting the shoes and I don’t understand why would they make them so hard to get. I can only imagine that in a year or two, we’re going to see “Invisible Chestplate” just so our male characters can look fabulous and our female characters can look like they wear cheap bras.

When I started playing around 4 years ago, the game felt rather difficult for me and I could barely afford anything (including rares and exotics) but I had loads of fun. Repairs felt like an actual punishment for being reckless and gave incentive to group up.
Now it’s just something you need to click every now and then, the only possible cost being that of a waypoint.

[Suggestion] The Falls - Hero Point

Yoroiookami.3485

I don’t think it was a good idea to put a Hero Point in a hidden area with several paths (on the map) leading to it, that are actually blocked. Then it also requires high level gliding and on top of that you need to beg strangers with leveled up gliding and a lot of patience to help you. You’re making things that are supposed to be singleplayer for multiple people (Hero Points) and things that are supposed to be multiplayer for single people (Christmas events). I know you won’t change this map in any way, but please stop designing them that way. This is not fun at all and I have no idea if anyone enjoyed it. But if someone did, I think they have way too much time on their hands and too little self respect.
Of course this is just my opinion, but it’s like you’re designing things to annoy your players.
That would be it.

[Suggestion] Pokemon in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yoroiookami.3485

Yoroiookami.3485

When you actually describe your idea, I think it sounds nothing like Pokémon, and you’re only hurting your case by making the comparison. It’s distracting from your actual suggestion.

I know “more detail” seems like the way to go when making a suggestion, but by the time I got to the end, I wasn’t 100% sure what it was you were suggesting again. You want things hidden in the world that people can interact with to get small bonuses, but I’m not really sure if these things always follow you around (overlapping with mini-pets?) or one-time things (which could be implemented any number of ways.)

You don’t need to preface your idea with a lot of caveats, or tie it into what you think the dev team does well or poorly. Just explain it concisely, and you might find there’s an easier way to accomplish the changes you want to make.

My idea is about catching/hunting for various creatures around the world, so it should remind you of the concept of pokemon games. Of course they’re not a one time thing. I don’t know if you didn’t read all of it or if I didn’t word myself right, but the whole point was about these creatures hatching from eggs etc.
We do have minis and pets, but that doesn’t mean there’s no place for more. They could for example be so small, they could fit on your shoulder, or stick to your arm. Or even sit on your head, which would make the cosmetic side of things more fun.

You do have a point though, since I don’t think most of the people who commented on this post, actually even read it.

[Suggestion] Pokemon in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Yoroiookami.3485

Yoroiookami.3485

Before you take out your pitchforks and torches – no, I don’t mean literal pokemon running around Tyria and people keeping them in small objects against their will.
What I have in mind is something a little different, but similar when you really think about it.
Right now, one of the few things that Guild Wars 2 lacks, is the amount of things you can do in the open world. By that, I don’t mean lack of events on the map, nor heart quests or people to talk to on maps. We always had amazing jumping puzzles, which are still one of my favourite activities after these 3 years. Now we even have bounties for shining blades, which are very nice, but not very rewarding. Players can also spend some time hunting down monsters and doing other things for their legendary collections. There are also achievements, for people who are interested in them. The problem is, I think the way things are set up right now, it’s either a race to make a lot of gold to buy things, or to get a specific achievement. That’s a very good thing for people who enjoy grinding or going out of the way to get a few achievement points, but it can get a bit boring for some other players.
My idea is directed more towards casual players. Mostly for people who actually enjoy ‘adventures’ and such. Currently there’s no fishing in the game, which is a shame, but I can’t really imagine it to be too exciting. There’s no real housing outside of guild hall and you need to spend a lot of gold to buy decorations for it. Roleplay was never a very strong part of GW2 and I feel like that’s a shame. Thankfully lately we received some more emoticons, which I’m personally very happy about.

Anyway, my idea isn’t an original one, but it’s definitely something that this game needs, at least to a degree. It’s basically a “pet hunt”. People looking for pets around the world. Pets that can’t be bought for 10 gold coins on the trading post, pets who are mostly randomly found.
I realise that we already have pets. Rangers use them as companions in battle, even though there’s no real interaction between player and the animal. There are also mini-pets which don’t really do anything aside from looking cute.
They don’t have to be pets, they can be some sort of spirits, or fairies or whatever else fits well into the Guild Wars lore. I just want them to be things you can interact with, that give some very minor bonuses. Not big enough to make a huge difference, but big enough for players to want to hunt for them.
For example, one creature could offer a 20% magic find boost. It may sound huge but from personal experience I know that even 300% doesn’t make a huge difference. Another creature could offer additional 3% bonus experience from kills, allow to heal other players faster or even add a bit of stamina for people who just started to glide around the world. These creatures could offer mining bonuses, small defence bonuses, running speed bonuses. It would be really exciting to catch a creature that decreases your weapon cooldowns by 10%, or one that makes your weapon shine with a certain colour. There are many possibilities for this kind of mechanic.
To be honest, PvE as it is, isn’t very challenging for any player, aside from certain cases like the new maps. This system wouldn’t make things too easy. They already are fairly easy. Why not allow players to have some fun?
I realise it could break PvP or WvW, but I imagine it’s alright to disable this mechanic for these two game modes. If it’s necessary, I mean. Perhaps players who aren’t very fond of new people in dungeons and raids would at least think twice before kicking someone, who owns a useful companion. Then again, these bonuses don’t have to be huge. Just big enough for players to be interested in getting these creatures. It would be fun to cultivate them in eggs, or upgrade them a little the way mawdrey was upgraded. Maybe except for speeding things up with gold and uneccessary time gates on crafting.

I know that this is a crazy idea and that probably not too many players would be interested in hunting for creatures around the world, but I somehow feel like our staff is a bit afraid of taking any risks. It seems to me like they’re really against “pay to win” and they try to keep things balanced, but it usually ends up working the other way around (Mostly in PvP). We can’t trade, or make our little shops, or cultivate creatures like in so many other games. There’s no housing and not too many things you can unlock without spending an x amount o gold. Luminescent armour is a good example of letting players work for something without losing a fortune while doing it.
Many other games use these sort of systems and they are successful. There’s no horrible consequences. The world won’t end. Please let us have some fun. Add something new we can enjoy doing. Let us have pointless mounts that don’t give speed boosts, let us catch gnomes with strange bonuses, let us decorate our houses, use trophies for something, get married in front of a dwayna statue, dive with our gliders, name our gear, or even un-bind it so we can gift it to our friends.

I’m sorry for such a long post but I wanted to explain what I meant so that everyone patient enough to read it, understood it.

Please, no pitchforks.

Yoroiookami.3485

Please add more ways to spend spirit shards. Right now, they’re only really useful for people who want to make legendaries, among few other things. I have around 4000 shards at the moment (after making 4 legendary weapons) and I bet that there are people who have way more.

It would be nice to spend it on something useful, like gear, special kinds of runes or sigils, or maybe even on a mastery point. If you get 1 spirit shard for leveling up, surely it would be fair to offer players a mastery point for 100 shards each. It’s just an idea, though.

It would also be nice if players could spend them on karma. It’s a way more useful currency, one that won’t really break the economy of the game as far as I know.

If not, there are also laurels, which you can currently only get by logging in. It would be nice if players were allowed to speed up the process of getting what they want by playing the game (leveling up -> getting the shards).

Maybe it’s a terrible idea alltogether, but I feel like at least one of those ideas for spending spirit shards could work.

It is the way it was designed. You can not leave or join tribulation runs that are in progress. I would suggest you look into why you were disconnected to avoid disconnecting next time. It also warns you when you start that you can’t join in progress.

Warning doesn’t really help with this kind of situation. I would imagine inability to join is to avoid people getting rewards for nothing. But it’s different for me, because I got that far on my own and I’m still unable to rejoin and claim the reward I earned. I don’t think that something to stop it is that hard to implement.

I’ve spent around 3-5 hours completing third zone of second world in Super Adventure Box Tribulation Mode. During it, I had an option to purchase a Torch. An OPTION. There was always some way around. A slightly more hidden path. It was harder, but it was possible to do. Until I reached a waterfall. I don’t see any other way. There’s no way for me to progress without a torch, even though nothing earlier stopped me. I understand that this is supposed to be challenging, and it’s supposed to make people frustrated and that it’s unfair almost all the way through. This seems more like some kind of cruel joke, though. I just wasted many hours of my time trying to finish an impossible (for me) task. This is almost as good as when I got disconnected right when I was about to finish the first zone. Around 300 deaths, impossible jumps, impossible obstacles, unfair traps and I was stopped by a waterfall. A waterfall.

Maybe there is some way around it, but at this point I’m giving up, with tribulation mode and possibly with staying sane.

Without posting any crash or disconnection details there is nothing anyone can do to help you. You can think the issues are with the Anet servers and refuse to look any further but it’s not. If it was a server issue everyone would be disconnected or crash, not just some. There is a drastic increase in system resources needed at meta events and world bosses due the the very large number of people that are there. This puts a huge strain on your PC that you don’t see at other times. Are you running the 32-bit client or the 64-bit client? If you are running a 64-bit OS then use the 64-bit client.

Anet can help me by getting better servers. And just because it works like that for some, doesn’t mean the problem isn’t on their end. Just the way some people seem to lag on some days and usually in large groups.

  • Devs – I’d even be happy with a potion being made available where, upon consuming, it will prevent you from acquiring the swiftness buff from all external sources for 60 seconds (meaning you can only give yourself swiftness).

That’s a really good idea. Shame it wasn’t implemented.

I may still end up on the same map, if it’s not full. Especially if I’m in a party.

Today I’ve encountered a troll using swiftness faucet on the spiral jumping puzzle in Caledon Forest. Annoying other people with random swiftness became way easier thanks to revenants, so please give us an option to block/disable buffs from other players.

I think that before adding these bundles for 2000 gems, it would be wiser to actually give us an option to buy seperate items. Though I mostly wanted to suggest that you let us gift these packs, because there’s absolutely no way I’d want one, while my friends really do.

Scratch that. It’s three times now. It’s actually impressive.

I thought it was fixed, but it’s back. 30 minutes and two DCs, both in Silverwastes, first one right before the Vinewrath died. My connection has been stable as far as I know. Didn’t run into any other issues outside of GW2.
It’s like you added RNG to getting disconnected.

Which Class to start with?

Guardian has always been a ‘noob’ class to me for many reasons, mostly because it’s almost impossible to die as one, especially on lower level maps. It may be just me though, and I’m not sure how it is at the moment.
As far as I know, Thieves are fairly popular in dungeons and elementalists are welcome everywhere. I don’t do dungeons nor fractals that much so I can’t be sure. I personally recommend you a Warrior. It’s a pretty straightforward class without any fancy combos or anything like that. If you think that might be boring, pick Elementalist as they have the most skills in the game. I don’t think you’d enjoy Thief too much if you aim for PvE though. They have a tendency to die from little bruises and they’re not that useful to teammates in my opinion.
I wish you lots of fun.
