The pistol is the only skin that looks halfway decent. Don’t have to bother with chests. Woo!
I’ve gotten 2 from 11 games (only one of those 1st place). Seems fairly common. Selling now while it’s still worth money
Glad I’m not the only one that gets frustrated by SoloQ. I wish people would stop hating on hotjoin; every time I try tournies (read, SoloQ) I get immensely frustrated; at least hotjoin/casual games are at least mildly entertaining. If tourney was all that remained I’d leave SPvP entirely…
You kno wat i mean :P but overall i have luck joining matches with 1 less than the total player limit, for instance 9/20 for a 5v5 and 15/20 for an 8v8. Then i get the last slot.
This is what I’ve been doing, and been enjoying it to some extent. I win 99% of the time simply because people are so busy killing each other that they don’t bother to cap points. I usually run from point to point and occasionally get a good 1v1 while everyone else is clusterkittening around the skyhammer or whatever.
I don’t know about all these people recommending tPvP. Every single time I’ve tried tournies, I just leave incredibly frustrated within 2-3 rounds (I play solo, so have to do solo queue). Usually end up either A) getting stomped by a premade or getting stomped because someone doesn’t join and it’s 4v5. IMO, tPvP is an utterly terrible game mode unless you’re going in with a premade group. I would much rather do casual play.
Here’s the deal: in order to go to Cantha, we must go through Elona, which is ruled by Palawa Joko who won’t be too happy about foreigners coming into his country and most likely will have to overthrow his regime. To get to Elona, we’ll have to go through the Crystal Desert which is blocked by Kralkatorrik who we’d have to fight in order to go anywhere south of the Crystal Desert.
Shortcut to Cantha: we could always sail or fly to Cantha via the ocean, but Bubbles is out there somewhere preventing all naval and possibly air travel south of Tyria, so anywhere we want to go is blocked by an Elder Dragon, then by Palawa Joko, and then by the Ministry of Purity in Cantha.
Going north is a suicide mission as both Primordis and Jormag reside there, East is prevented by The Scar, west is the Tyrian Pinensula wherein the 6th Elder Dragon Mordremoth resides, so travel to there is impossible.
Good luck getting out of Tyria my friend.
Solution: space travel. The asura are probably already working on it.
Yeah, Orrian Jewelry boxes are far superior to buying Obsidian Shards directly. You get PLENTY, and get lodestones and such to boot. Plus you don’t have to wait for Balthazar to be open. Just make sure to use Karma Boost (50% from BLTC booster, 15% amulet infusion, 10% banner, 5% food). I usually make 20-30g on a run (go when I’m around 75 karma jugs plus drops and such), and I don’t even sell the Charged Lodestones (need them for Meteorlogicus).
But, we’re somewhat off topic. Yes, I’m glad they’re changing precursors (even though I sort of got screwed on mine, bought Storm back when it was at 200g because they seemed like they were eternally going up in price and I wanted to get it before it was outrageous). This is a good change. Finally a fix to one of the most complained about issues in the game. Better late than never.
I’ve used them to gear alts (I have 3 lvl 80 characters). That didn’t take too many though (since I had all my rings from running fotm endlessly). Since then, I’ve used them to buy T6 crafting materials. You always get three, and given the prices on them (currently lowest one is 10s, I believe, highest up near 31s) I generally make 50s or so on average per laurel. Compare this to Unidentified Dyes, worth about 17s 50c each, where you get around 35s per laurel (more, I suppose, if you’re lucky and get an Abyss or something when you open).
It has certainly made my grind towards Gift of Fortune a lot cheaper. If you don’t care about Tonics or Minipets, it’s a decent way to make money.
I’d rather have a weapon/armor rack in our home instance. Show a weapon/armor to it and it records the skin for us to get later as many times as we want. It also helps expand the home instance and give us another reason to go there other than our new node.
This would be so nice. I’m hesitant to even use anything like the Shattered Dragon Wings… if something new comes along that I like better (likely, given that we get new back items EVEYR PATCH), they’re gone FOREVER. Which kinda blows.
I don’t know, but if Cooking uses the same time-gated, account bound ingredients… I doubt I’ll be bothering too much with high level food. I already tend to use the tier of food just below the highest tier because the prices are too exorbitant for a 30 minute buff. :/
You realize if they’re doing legendary trinkets stats will be the same as ascended (which we already have) So the thing that they are going to add are effects to our characters to make them much cooler looking than they are now. Use your head a little bit please. My god.
Use YOUR head a little bit and realize that what you state as fact is purely an ASSUMPTION. “They are going to add effects”? Who knows? They might see the fact that you can change stats anytime you want, as with legendary weapons, as sufficient to justify their being different from ascended and not bother with any sort of visual effect. So keep your commentary constructive as it’s all speculation at this point.
That might solve the problem of people just cheating it for achievements (tossing keg back and forth, etc.) if winning actually mattered. On the other hand, if both 1st and 2nd place got some kind of reward, people might just cheat anyway to end games in 30 seconds, thus getting super fast rewards…
I think it would be abused. You can’t really abuse Zephyrite race because you only get reward if you finish, and it takes several minutes to finish. Keg Brawl could end in a minute or so if one team just let the other score without opposition.
Sounds to me like they’re only messing with precursors. I don’t know why they would change the rest of the formula, which, to my knowledge, no one has seriously complained about. Gift of Fortune and Gift of Mastery should still be part of the process (if they aren’t, I personally will be frustrated enough to quit the game, as I’ve slowly been grinding them out for over 6 months).
As for the legendary trinkets… I don’t know why they would bother with this? The only point of a legendary is the skin… but trinkets don’t have skins. I’m certainly not going to go through as much effort as I have with a legendary weapon just to see a special little icon on my hero screen. I guess it would have the same “change stats anytime” property that the weapons are supposed to gain… but how often do people really change their stats? Probably cheaper just to buy a new item if you decide you want a new build…
Complaining about people letting you win….
Um… yeah. It makes the game pointless and dull. I wouldn’t think that would be so hard to understand.
Err you mean every mini game isnt pointless and dull and UNFUN to begin with? Once I got my achieves never going to play these time wasters. By the way if you see me in a mini game you know wat to do
Keg Brawl can actually be immensely entertaining when everyone plays legitimately. I’ve had great fun with it. But it only takes one person jumping over the sidelines with a keg to unbalance the teams and ruin that fun.
I have less problems when it’s Keg Brawl Victor for the daily as opposed to stealer or fumble forcer. I agree with an earlier poster that this should be the only achievement.
Regarding people farming the Kegmaster title… yeah they’re annoying, but whatever, they should have their stupid title soon enough and get out of our hair. It’s dailies that are more of an issue because those are ongoing.
It’s entirely reasonable to expect a new precursor. I just don’t think we’ll be seeing another Greatsword precursor considering there are two.
I hope we don’t see any other Greatsword Legendary for 3 years to come. I’m so sick of them, everyone and their moms have Sunrise/Twilight. ENOUGH GREATSWORDS! They already have the overall best skins in the game, completely contrary to Staff, Maces, etc, where all skins suck .
Preach. Greatswords get all the love. And you’re right, when I see someone with Sunrise/Twilight I’m not at all impressed. I’m just like “oh, that overused skin.”
well i was hoping that a dev would be able to give a definite answer but i guess the worst case is that i would have to obtain a new ascended sword and transmutate it.
This. You’ve ground out a legendary… I doubt it would be that hard to get a new ascended weapon simply for stat transmutation.
yes indeed but its not convenient, also in the update you will be able to change the stats on legendarys whenever you arent in combat which i wouldnt be able to do so its not ideal.
Not ideal, no. But if it saves Anet having to do some tricky code to figure out who already has an xmuted legendary and then revert that to its original state, I wouldn’t be surprised if “not ideal” was fine with them.
Yeah, I do find it somewhat strange, given how pricy it is to obtain all the recipes and then how time-consuming it is to make all this gear, to just make it suddenly obsolete. Guess we’ll find out.
I would not mind just having a way to craft ascended accessories. I have refused to buy them from the laurel vendor because their exorbitant cost does not in any way justify the meager stat increase (50 ectos is nearly 10g, and 40 laurels is a significant opportunity cost since you’re throwing away the chance to buy high value t6 crafting mats and unidentified dyes).
Sort of agree with Keilun. I’d rather they make existing utility skills useful than make new ones. On my thief, other than 4-5 utilties I don’t even know what they do because they’re so useless (the traps are a joke, the venoms are utterly mediocre….). If they’re just going to add 3-4 more skills that I’ll never use because my current ones are so much better… what’s the point?
My four man guild uses basically the same way you do. Cooking crafting materials (piles of salt/pepper, etc.), and various potions (undead slaying, elemental slaying, etc.). None of it ever really gets used.
I would really like to know if the overall recipe will change. I’ve been solidly working towards The Bifrost for 3 months straight now, I’ve finished Gift of Mastery, I’ve got more than half of all my T6 Mats and like half of the requirements for the Gift of the Bifrost. So I can assuredly say, i’m around 50% of the way.
I’ve decided to wait out on the new Legendaries, because the more than likely thing is that something I like more than Bifrost will pop up, and I would regret finalizing the Bifrost if something I DO like more comes out…
So for now, i’d just like to know if the new Legendaries will still require G. of Fortune, G. of Mastery, G. of Specific-Legendary and Precursor (which will require more gifts by itself), or will it be like “New G. of Bullkitten! Now requires 250 of T7 mats” leaving us all like “uuuuuuuuhhhhhhh”
Given how I read the blog post, I don’t think we have to worry about this. It seemed – to me – like the only thing that will be changing is the fact that you’ll be able to craft a precursor, in ADDITION to getting it through RNG or mystic toilet. I certainly am not going to rush finish my Meteorlogicus. Why would they change the parts of the system that no one has complained about? Everyone has been fine with the system of the various gifts.
well i was hoping that a dev would be able to give a definite answer but i guess the worst case is that i would have to obtain a new ascended sword and transmutate it.
This. You’ve ground out a legendary… I doubt it would be that hard to get a new ascended weapon simply for stat transmutation.
My real question about Ascended Armor (and weapons) is how they will deal with Runes and Sigils. With jewelry it didn’t really matter to just get rid of the upgrade slot and combine it in with the normal stats, but you can’t do that with weapons/armor. There are unique bonuses on Sigils and Runes that they can’t just combine into the base stats of an item. Will they have both an Upgrade slot and an Infusion slot, I wonder? I hope they address this properly. Honestly I would not trade up to an Ascended weapon for extra stats if it meant giving up the various Superior Sigils I use.
Well you just have to think about what kind of materials are going to be involved. You KNOW T6 fine mats will have to be involved in some way (whether straight up, or as a once per 24 hr converted format, like the Charged Quartz). And we know Anet’s penchant for recipes requiring full stacks of 250. I can’t imagine a precursor crafting recipe totaling up to less than 100g (just 250 Vials of Powerful Blood would be something like 75g as it stands now, and demand for these things will only increase if they really are used in the recipes). So yeah maybe the crafting will be cheaper for expensive precursors like Dusk, Dawn, or The Legend… but cheaper than Venom, The Bard, or even something like Storm? I highly doubt it.
They will either revert back to their original state or they’ll add some easy mystic forge recipe to revert it.
I like how you state this as fact when you can’t possibly have any idea. Lol. Wishful thinking akittens finest.
My necro runs near full Rabid gear and kicks butt in WvW and does decently in dungeons. So not sure what you’re talking about.
That said, they did say they were adding new skills/traits. So perhaps non-zerker builds will be boosted to be more viable.
All I know is, if I manage to finish mine before the upgrade comes out, I certainly won’t be transmuting it. Somehow I doubt that people who have transmuted in the past will magically get credited.
Yeah, people were telling me earlier that I should dump my precursor now (working towards Meteorlogicus, have everything but 1/2 the T6 mats and Charged Lodes basically) because they’re going to drop in price like rocks. I just laughed and said I wasn’t selling. Do people really think the crafting recipes for precursors are going to be cheap? It’s not gonna be “Ancient Wood Scepter Casing” plus “5 globs of ectoplasm”… it’ll be something outrageous. They already said in the blog post that new crafting would requires lots of account bound materials that could only be acquired once per 24 hrs (or something along those lines). I don’t think crafting a precursor will be too terribly easy or cheap. Somehow, I think the current precursors on the market will be just fine…
To think I just sold like 60 molten cores.
Godkitten it.
Lol, I’ve been saving mine for ages. I knew that the CoF gold wonderland couldn’t last forever.
4 words:
Better late than never.
So much this. About time, Anet. Glad this is finally happening.
I never buy Black Lion Keys. I always use waypoints. The choice is pretty easy…
That said, I’m disappointed that we only get EITHER Fall of Abbadon or Thaumanova Reactor. Both are very interesting to me. I’ll be going with Kiel just for the waypoints, I guess. Plus I like her better as a character.
So why does a character have to be level 80 to learn the Celestial recipes? I leveled two crafting professions on each of four characters so that I wouldn’t have to keep paying silver to switch anytime I wanted to use one. Not all of those characters are level 80. I don’t understand why my 400 Huntsman engineer can’t learn this recipe just because she isn’t level 80. It seems like a completely unnecessary requirement.
The only other recipes in game which use this system (that I can think of) are the Corrupted weapons; there, it isn’t a problem because the weapons can be bought from the TP. These weapons, however, are account bound upon crafting.
I don’t have a problem with the items themselves requiring level 80. But it’s ridiculous that the recipes do. Please remove this requirement. I’m sure I’m not the only one who crafted on alts to avoid the switching fee.
Mad King’s was good except for two things. One, you had to do it with a giant group of people, so that half the time your character (especially if you were an asura, like me!) was so buried that you couldn’t even see yourself and you would die for that silly reason. Two, you had to wait for a LONG time in between attempts. If you died at the beginning because you could see due to a giant Charr or Norn, it was like a 1.5 or 2 minute wait. Listening to that dumb NPC chant about a mouse running up the clock and dying.
They improved all that with the Wintersday one by splitting people into three groups and giving you snowballs to play with while you waited.
So here’s hoping this one is hard for legitimate reasons, and not just hard because of a dopey design! Looking forward to a fun new JP!
Yea, it was pretty obvious. The moment I heard her saying she can heal, in that totally-not-a-benevolent-healer voice we see in every game, I thought: She’s the one. And she was. Sigh..
Yep. Yet another example of this game’s cliche and predictable writing.
“Fed ex style quest chains,” great description lol. I too was immensely intrigued at the beginning, both by the initial effigy lighting ceremony (which was more interesting than 99% of the personal story missions) and the cutscene with Marjory. But the ending was just weak.
Unlike you, I was disappointed by who the culprit was. During the effigy lighting ceremony, when Mai ran over to the dead guy, I immediately thought “she’s behind it all.” I mean, come on. She’s the only named NPC there who doesn’t have any reason to be there. Oh, random doctor on the scene! Yeah right. I had hoped that there would be a twist ending and my jaded prediction would be proved wrong, but instead there was just a Scooby-Doo-esque “and I would’ve gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for your meddling magic box!” Very, very disappointing. Having the villain laugh manically and tell you their whole plan as they escape is SO cliche. There are really better ways to tell a story.
I’m assuming that Mai is supposed to be the “personal nemesis” we have heard so much about. If so, she’s not very satisfying. “Oh no, she killed a random councilor I know nothing about to try to get on the council herself! Ahhhhh I hate you…!…?” If she’s not, I don’t know where this “personal nemesis” is supposed to be (I thought we were supposed to meet her by the end of F&F).
Here’s hoping that the pirates patch isn’t just another bunch of grindy “press F” achievements and a story that consists of waypointing around starter zones, coupled with RNG box skins.
Jumping puzzles were the best parts of Halloween and Wintersday. Fingers crossed that those pipes are a new puzzle!
I had the same feeling that the drop rate was reduced, glad I’m not crazy. You know Anet – they hate loot!
I’m loving the coffers as well. Exploiting all of you fools seeking that .02% drop rate ticket… muwahaha
Making bank selling these things for 6s or so a pop.
I also have yet to see a single person using a Sclerite weapon. I’ve heard of people that have gotten them, but never seen one. Of course, that could be because they look so utterly unimpressive that I just didn’t notice, but…
Yeah, I’m also tired of weapon skins that are designed solely to feed CasinoNet’s profit margin and the “zomg I have an exclusive item!” mentality of a small minority of players. The content that everyone can actually access is just garbage. Anet doesn’t seem to understand that while things like hitting a piñata are really fun in real life, they are terrible in a video game (“zomg – I hit ‘F’ like a champ that time!”).
I was bored with this “event” within about 5 minutes. It’s just Halloween with new skins… (piñatas = carving pumpkins, holograms = doors, zhaitaffies = candy corn, etc.).
Yes, the Lightning Hammer stuns moas and screws up the entire race. I’ve stopped playing the activity for now, too many exploiters. Reported anyone I saw holding the hammer.
Spent over 250$ on keys since fused weapons have been in the game. Not one ticket.
2 endless mystery tonics. Not one ticket.
Fused tickets are a myth. At least in my case they are.
And that’s why RNG gambling is both a problem and a joke. You apparently really want a fused weapon ticket, have spent $250, and gotten nothing.
I on, the other hand, had no desire whatsoever for a fused weapon ticket because I think the fused weapons are all ugly (I think CoF are all ugly too, and these are just CoF with some chains and more glow). And yet, having opened a grand total of ONE chest since fused weapons were introduced (using a key I got from my alt’s level 10 personal story quest), I got one. Could I trade it to someone who actually wanted it, making both parties happy? No. So I bought a rather ugly staff for my elementalist alt, which I will probably never use.
Black Lion Chest skin gambling is a terrible idea, and I wish anet would stop it already. But I guess they’re making too much money off of suckers, so they probably won’t.
I wish there were some pics of the armor sets.
I wish there WERE some new armor sets. All we have gotten since release is new weapon sets, plus an occasional random armor piece like the Fused Gauntlets. I’m good on weapons. My weapons are cool. Know what I still hate? My thief’s ugly medium armor and all the other ugly medium armor. Where’s the armor love?
Although, note, if you’re just going to make an armor set with creepy blinking eyes on it, Anet, then by all means, continue just making weapon sets. No interest in that.
To the SoR thief I dueled for 15 minutes straight, only to be cut off by reset; well played. Awesome thief fight.
Josh Foreman, you are officially my favorite ArenaNet employee. Thank you for HONESTY! I very much hope that you get a raise!
Perhaps people are crafting rare staves to throw into the mystic toilet for a chance at The Legend?
Well the issue is they need to implement it properly.
People like me, who actually do the PvP dailies/monthlies, got totally screwed by this “bug.” I finished the monthly two days before the patch, so I didn’t get this magical extra ten laurels.
Sure, I’m all for implementing something to incentivize PvP, but do it in a way that doesn’t shaft people who normally do the thing in the first place.
Wow so I get screwed over cause anet doesn’t test their stuff? I did both pvp/pve before the patch came
Yeah… wtf. I finished the PvP monthly two days ago. Lame.
Of course, this is why price shot up over 100% from a week ago ;D
Whatever the reason…. that jump sucks. When the thing cost 55g, I managed to grind up to 45… then it shot up to 150. It’s been around 130-150 since Feb patch… i managed to grind up to 135 just in time to see the thing jump to 350g, where it currently is. I give up. Only reason I was going for the thing in the first place was because it was one of the only precursors I ever had a shot at affording.
Yeah. Killstreak boosters are terribad anyway… have never used one…
Was hoping for character slot, fine xmute stone, or BLSK sales… but no… sigh.
I’m not sure why you would do this anyway. I’m pretty sure you can get the same stats on a Fractal Capacitor as you can on a quiver, so why would you make both (incredibly time-consuming and/or expensive) just to transmute them?
And as Syberius said, you will never be able to upgrade the item in the Mystic Toilet. So whatever skin you transmute is the one you’re stuck with forever. If you already have the level 3 fractal capacitor with the full glow, then yes, I assume that will remain.
