The reason I specifically asked about build templates was because with 9 new elites specializations coming, coupled with the fact that the recent direction of the game has been towards harder ‘group’ content that requires players to be easily be able to switch builds to get into groups – A build template system should have been something the Dev’s considered as an essential game system that they should have developed years ago in anticipation of where they were taking the game, rather than something that players wanted and ‘not a priority’
This and all the other examples we have had over the years of ‘things’ introduced to the game without proper thought or planning which resulted in them either being abandoned or having to find ‘fixes’ after the fact, really do sum up the state of the game.
Anet needs to work on ensuring that underlying game systems and mechanics are in place, before, not after introducing content.
Alternative, let those people that insist on specific builds for the ‘group’ content form their groups, then follow along with what ever it is you use and complete the content anyways. The only place it makes sense is for FotM, Raids, PvP and WvW…you can get away with practically anything in PvE.
Also, you might want to consider having this moved to the Engineer forum under the Professions category as it is far more likely to be read by the team there than it would be here in the general forum.
This morning I was roaming open-world, solo, looking to earn some HPs. When I was at this waypoint in Tangled Depths when suddenly a group of players appeared and then a prompt message appeared on my chat, " I was being kicked out of the party by this lame person".
I was liked, wth ?! I always play solo and I certainly did not join any group or squad. Did the game added a auto-group-join thingy in open world map?
No, the game did not add an auto-group join, what it sounds like is you got an invite and it popped up while you where doing something else and you accepted without knowing it. Believe me, it does happen…I’ve done it once myself.
I only play male characters when forced to, or because I’ve created a back story for a male character…otherwise it’s all females and I don’t have a problem with it at all. and if anyone else does, too bad. It’s my character and I’ll play what I want.
I just bough a gear with my main for my alt, then I realize I cant take it from the Bank cause it Soulbound. I gave nearly 500 k karma just to find out I cant use the gear. So I have to spend plenty of time to running with my alt ,to discover Ruins of Or and to buy it or I am forced to pay 50-60 gold to the trading post to buy a gear. Why is that ? Can you make that Karma gear Acountbound . I cant salvage it , I cant wear it , I cant sell it …. Seriously ?
It’s a legacy from the time karma was character bound. Each of your character had its own karma in wallet. When they put on the wallet system, they merged all the karma, yet karma sellers still sale account bound items.
It’s no confort though. Good luck.
It’s not. All character gear but ascended is soulbound. One thing literally has nothing to do with the other.
Not true, there is account bound gear that isn’t Ascended, whether it’s good or not is a different story(and I’m not talking blues and greens, I’m talking some yellows and orange).
Seriously.
The concepts of these elite specs are lit!
The execution.. MessyThey have a test server (one used by a group of players). It will never be enough feedback to have things 100% ready.
What would really help is if folks like yourself you think the implementation is “messy” would describe what that actually means. What is the concept that you like? How does its execution fall short? What do you think they should have done instead (if indeed, you have a suggestion). Simply saying -1 doesn’t offer them anything to work with.
I would love to let them know.. Just not a month before release
One month is plenty of time to make adjustments(adjustments are really all that is necessary), why do you think the PvP/WvW weekend is that far out from release?
First off you don’t need to do a Heart for 100 days in a row, you only need to redo a Heart when you have items that you want to identify, which means with UNID’d items stacking to 250 you could easily go an entire week without doing a Heart. Second, people say it’s a gold sink and that you lose money, however they’re completely forgetting the Trading Post apparently, because you always have buyers and sellers of materials. My best guess is that it’s really a zero sum proposition after you figure in all of the components, and by just salvaging everything you eliminate all those kitten ed minor sigils and those other things, that’s what ends up taking most of your inventory space while exploring, not the materials.
Forget the idea of a Gemstore tool, ID’ing will stay with the Heart vendors. Now to counter some complaints…you won’t need to visit a Heart vendor until your inventory is filled up, which means you could potentially play for a couple of days before all slots are full of un-ID’s items. The chance of getting a rare or exotic is low enough that it’s probably more beneficial to just salvage everything at the beginning.
I’ll bet if you ID’d 250 items that it would be a wash between what you spent and what you earn from the ID’d items presuming you sell them to the merchant at cost. That seems to be how most items in the economy work, if you take the time to figure it out. It’s almost a zero sum proposition(but not really, you will earn gold slowly just selling all greens the merchant and salvaging all blues).
I enjoyed the Raptor, and am looking forward to the other Mounts.
If changes are to be considered, I hope they are options, and not just changes. I’d hate to lose the great feeling of riding Mounts.
Thanks for all your hard work, Devs. =)
I’m with Inculpatus here, loved the Raptor, even with the movement, made it seem more realistic and once I got used to it(only took about 10 or 15 minutes) I no longer had any problems with controlling it.
Adding OPTIONS for those that have issues is a good idea, making changes to solve those problems does nothing but appease those with problems while irritating those that like the status quo, and hopefully you’ve learned from past experiences when making changes as opposed to offering more options(obviously more options is always the better choice but I also understand that sometimes you’re unable to offer options due to potential limitations of the engine or other underlying factors).
Two words: Dhuum or Forgotten.
Here’s my opinion after watching the video…the floppy fish is NOT gasping for air…it’s actually “gasping” for water…fish breath through their gills and the gills need water to absorb oxygen from…so no big deal, it swims in the water and flops on land. It probably wasn’t meant to be brought out while on land but needed an animation for those that would. Not a big deal, it’s a toy.
“Raids are essentially side stories, and while they may sometimes share themes with other content they are not part of the core Guild Wars 2 narrative. Because of that, we can tackle darker or more mature topics that don’t fit elsewhere in the game: failure, guilt, betrayal, and struggles for redemption.”
These topics don’t fit in living world stories?
They are side stories, they really don’t have anything to do with the core of GW2 which is the battle against elder dragons. There’s a connection to the raids and GW1, but the White Mantle, Saul and Caudecus are essentially a side story. As a GW1 veteran and long time GW1 player, I’m siding with Bobby on this one, if you really want to see the story in game…look for a cleared instance, otherwise, either read it on the wiki or watch a video…it’s essentially the same thing.
~snip~
I stand by my assertion, though it is pure speculation on my part. If we apply human/sapient standards of behavior to real predators on earth, some of their behavior might look downright evil at times, as well: toying with kills, appearing to take pleasure at the suffering of their prey. But that’s exactly what it is; application of human standards to a species that doesn’t recognize rights or morality simply because it’s incapable of doing so.~snip~
Name a current, real predator that appears to be toying with it’s kill(and that is exactly what it is doing, not just applying human/sapient standards). Same goes for one that appears to take pleasure at the suffering of their prey, they do get pleasure from watching their prey suffer…so there’s absolutely nothing wrong with applying human standards to a species that you think might not recognize rights or morality as we see them, but they do on their own terms.
First off, not everyone plays at the same skill level or with the same style…so knock of the degrading talk. Second, perhaps binding the Asura Special Action Skill(you do get it from and Asura, so it is an Asura skill) does make it easier, but not everyone uses the keyboard/bindings for combat. Personally, I use mouse clicks for everything…it just takes some effort getting the timing down(and yes, the mouse still works fine even after 10 million plus clicks). Can the fight be annoying yes, but I may just leave this one alone like the end of HoT, it’s not a deal breaker if I don’t actually complete the episode any time soon.
Does anyone understand what this virus.4370 person is trying to say…because I have no clue, other than it sounds like he’s turned the story completely upside down on it’s head and inside out at the same time.
Joining the White Mantle is NEVER going to happen…unless ArenaNet decides to make a completely separate game with the White Mantle as the player characters….would make an interesting single player, alternate universe type game though.
I read this topic, I considered everything and this “separate” sounds very seriously.
“Raids are not part of our Living World”. But we can see they are.
They’re a separate GAME element, and there will be a recap of what happened in the raid wings somewhere in the beginning of LS3…or you could enter a COMPLETED raid wing just to experience the story.
Interesting, because one of the greatest feats of mankind is the ability to adapt…yet here we are talking about people unwilling to adapt…what they’re unwilling to adapt however is their play style…nothing more/nothing less…and I can point out a thousand single player games that make you adapt or die…nothing different than in this game, the game is designed one way, you can either adapt your play style to make life easier or trudge along doing the same old, same old.
None of HoT is honestly that super difficult that you can’t do a lot of it roaming around solo, as long as you pay attention to what’s going on around you. Having said that, yes, there are events and Meta events that require groups, but you don’t need to join in to enjoy them…you can hang around the fringes and still participate…though some might frown on that, you’re still doing something helpful, only doing it your way.
P.S. – I’m one of many taking a break for FO4, it just happened to release not long after HoT, can’t help companies release schedules.
Just in case no one else has said it: skins are NOT content, skins are fluff…and I don’t really care what other say about it…skins are NOT content.
Obviously no one understands that NO guild was meant to unlock everything in the Guild Hall within the first week or even first 3 weeks. The Guild Hall is a LONG TERM investment, which means small guilds NEED to spread the cost out over MONTHS and not look at weeks. That is how it’s set up currently and I highly doubt it will change.
As for the issue with the Arena 2 upgrade, did you not stop to think that only basics would be available to those without the expansion…it’s actually makes sense that you would need the expansion in order to use higher level upgrades.
I think the Noxious Pods are available even without having beaten the Mouth, but in extremely limited quantities…I only say this because I once was standing next to one on a brand new map(without any way to open it of course, since it was my first time in DS not doing the story).
Are you all sure those missing collection items are bugs…and not just items that have yet to be introduced? The possibilities, oh, the possibilities that lay in wait for those so anxious to rush through what was meant to be a legendary journey.
P.S. – to the programmers in in the group…whether it’s a game or other program…based on your statements nothing would ever get released in a relatively decent time frame(and I worked in several businesses that bought off the shelf programs that were full of bugs brand new…so it’s not just restricted to gaming companies). However, gaming companies(especially MMO developers) have it harder than other software developers, why…because there is no way on earth they can test the hundreds of thousands of ways that people play…and yes, everyone plays and tries different things, that’s why there’s always some bugs and exploits that aren’t the obvious ones you can find. You should know that.
There’s an area, I think in the Tangled Depths, where there are herds of stationary pocket raptors to navigate between and a roaming group of pocket raptors to liven things up.
It got me thinking how cool it would be if there was a veritable ocean of raptors to wade through…
Now imagine if all those raptors could merge into one super-pocket-raptor!!
You’re almost correct, those groups of Pocket Raptors that you think are stationary, are far from it, they do move around…all of the groups. You should try gathering up like 3 or 4 of them at once and see how much fun it is, but then again, I play a Ranger using LB and Axe, so Pocket Raptors are no problem for me(even if I’m swarmed by a dozen or more since they melt like hot butter).
But this idea of a Champion or Legendary Pocket Raptor, I like it, as long as it’s an entire group of them, say anywhere from 5 – 9 strong, with a mix of Legendary and Champion all together, yeah, that sounds about right.
As for the Mordrem Rolling Devils, um, they need to roll in packs, one of them ping-ponging alone does not instill fright or even worry…and even when I come across a group of 4, I’m not concerned, but maybe it’s a melee thing and long range fighting does present it’s advantages.
Here’s some more Ranger ones you can add that I know work(from experience):
LB #5(Cripple)
Axe(MH) #3(Chill)
Axe(MH) #4(Pull)
P.S. – Excellent idea by the way, it’s amazing how many people don’t realize that by breaking the Break Bar you can also shorten the fight as it often gives the enemy Vulnerability, thereby increasing the amount of damage they take from players. You might want to even include that in your original post somewhere.
Yeah… we need DC protection in this game in general, not just in raids. But that does sound awful for the ocassional DC right now
No, actually people don’t need DC protection in this game, I can guarantee you that 99% of the issues with people DC’ing is either OOM or something goes wrong with packet loss in the route between the ArenaNet servers and the persons computer. It has nothing to do with the games stability in the super majority of cases…in 3 years of playing I’ve probably DC’d less than 10 times(I don’t count when that idiot was doing the DNS attack), and of those, 2 or 3 where issues with the Log-in server crashing(maybe even 4) and one was my net going out…the rest, probably due to packet loss or(if I wanted to believe the game messages, the system losing connection).
P.S. – Keep in mind the OOM DC’s are a result of the new maps and being on a 32-bit client using a 32-bit OS, you’re just asking for trouble if you use cranked up graphics.
P.P.S. – You can take this with a grain of salt as well, since it’s technically just my opinion, though if you think about it, it makes complete sense.
I completely disagree with your…um…I don’t know what the OP posted, a rant perhaps, since it certainly isn’t constructive criticism. I actually hope they add in more maps in the future with this verticality in it, however, what I’d really like to see is all 3 biomes in the same map(that is what I was hoping for with the HoT maps honestly). It would have then made more sense to need to learn the Gliding, Mushroom and Nuhock tunnel travelling Masteries as they would then have been needed to get from top to bottom on all the maps and you would have been able to put different events/creatures/hidden places at different levels of the map that you could only reach after learning the Mastery and giving players a reason to return to the maps in the future(IMO).
As far as I know, it’s happening this way: Once the bar is full, the game looks for the mastery line with the smallest level (or smallest needed XP?).
Eg, if you have Gliding 4, Itzel 3, Exalted 1, Nuhoch 2, the next chosen line will be Exalted 1. If you complete this too, the next one would be Exalted 2 and Nuhoch 2 after that.
I don’t think it works this way, it just starts to fill up(save the exp) for the very next one in the particular line you were already working on, unless you manually change it yourself…at least that’s been my experience(i.e. you finish Gliding 3 it automatically saves for Gliding 4, if you want to switch to Exalted 2 you need to manually switch the Mastery yourself).
Strange, I didn’t find that mildly amusing at all, but then again, I don’t seem to have a problem with the pocket raptors(they die like wet noodles) or mushrooms.
The Megaserver problem is only affecting the HoT maps, not the Core Tyria maps, and I think that in of itself is presenting a problem in nailing down the cause and allowing ArenaNet to address the issue completely. After all, you’re talking about it affecting 4 maps out of the entire game…it sounds like a deep rooted problem somewhere in the code of those maps in how they count players(perhaps it is counting the essential NPC’s as players and that’s confusing the algorithm…just a wild theory, not the actual reason).

This at the same time where it has suddenly became more important (due to incoming raids)
~Snip~
Remember, Ascended is RECOMMENDED for Raids, but is NOT needed/required…they’ve already said you can be successful with only Exotic gear. Only psychophants will demand party members wear Ascended.
You have 2 options for the materials, either spend the gold(increased gold sink), or you actually farm the materials yourself(which isn’t that hard, only takes time).

Funny how EotM and SW are generally full isn’kitten
Players want to be rewarded, and the less effort it takes the better for 99% of the populace. I am not shocked in the least. I like the new maps personally, but then again I like to put in some effort into getting rewards.
They designed challenging content people asked for say some but I’ll point out that no one was begging for zerg maps which is exactly what the HoT maps are. You’re 100% right about rewards, spend an hour in HoT doing a meta chain for a chest or take shovels to SW and make more money with less effort. It feels backwards.
Interesting, if I spend an hour in HoT doing a Meta event, I don’t get just one chest, but half a dozen chests easily, besides the event rewards…I think people expect to do nothing and get rewarded, which is what the SW chest train is(I still have to use up my 170 shovels though) and the EotM Ktrain.
HoT maps are not necessarily zerg trains, if people would bother to learn the mechanics and then follow through…do you ever notice how it takes 5 times as long to kill the Champs and Legendaries in the HoT events because NO ONE wants to do the Break bar…which performs 2 functions, either preventing the enemy from taking off or doing an massive damage skill and it increases the amount of damage they take from players, effectively ending the fights that much faster.
When I see a Legendary Wyvern get killed in 15 minutes when if could have been done in 5, it just makes me laugh that people then complain it takes to long to do the bosses. It would not take to long if you did them as designed.
HoT is not hardcore, if you consider amount of time playing casual or the STYLE of play as being casual. If you PLAY CASUALLY then HoT is not any different than Core Tyria, and don’t say someone that plays 3 – 5 hours a night is not casual…I might only do 2 or 3 events in those 3 – 5 hours, that’s casual, and that is the true definition of casual. These other definitions that people use are just substitutes for just plain laziness.
There is not a single area in VB(Verdant Brink) that you can’t reach solo, and I do mean solo without dying, but you can’t do it at walking speed, you need to at least have some form of permanent speed boost, which almost all(if not all) character classes have at their disposal, you can then run by every mob in the map, even the occasional Champ that has spawned.
It should be way easier playing with your gf, there are 2 of you, nothing should be that difficult with the exception of a few HP and MP(especially those that require some of the higher level of Masteries to reach), but just keep doing the events and eventually you’ll have those Masteries before you know it(it helps to use XP boosts to double the Exp gain and learn them faster).
Bladedancers’ hit detection makes no sense. They are clearly stabbing in front of themselves, but they still have some sort of cleave, wide enough to look like you died from nothing.
Also making an enemy that’s completely immune to projectile attacks is just plain silly.
Technically they’re not 100% completely immune to projectile attacks…otherwise my Ranger would not be able to kill them solo…and I can certainly do that using my LB.
~Snip~
…And boom, there went the event reward. Upon a disconnect, people would return to an empty map that had either just finished the event (thus no reward for the now returning character) or that had no chance of finishing the event at all. With no way to return to the maps those players were in, and no way to get the rewards for an event after a disconnect, people simply lost.
Now, three years later, we still have the exact same problems. It’s STILL impossible to navigate through the megaservers map properly – at best, all we can do is improvise with the LFG feature, but that often doesn’t work. Being disconnected while finishing a long meta event STILL makes a player lose his/her rewards more often than not, no matter how much of his/her time said player has just wasted.
ArenaNet is obviously not even trying to fix either of those issues, because if they were – and both have been very well known for quite some time now – they would already have fixed them.
~Snip~
A bad route from the ArenaNet servers to your computer is NOT something ArenaNet can fix, and that is where the majority of these disconnects are…if you ever did a trace route you would find somewhere along the line a big increase in packet loss…and presto, there’s your disconnect issue. That’s a problem you would need to take up with your ISP, tell them to try and find a different way to route your traffic from the AreanaNet servers to your home connection(as if that’s going to work, but then you can always use the same method as you prescribe, tell them you’re changing internet providers).
As for the Megaserver issue, yes, it is still not working properly in HoT, they are aware of the issue and are working on it…it works fine in Core Tyria though, that’s why you get those Empty Map messages when it drops below the population threshold. The maps aren’t designed to hold 500 players, so you are never going to find a map that populated, instead at the most you’ll find 150 or so players on a map, and when it drops down to 25 – 50 it then asks you to change to a more populated map. Which might take several times to do if it was a map that had a say a World Boss on it, as those create several instances of the map and as each one loses population they move you to the next, until you finally reach the map with the lowest population, but there is always one map open at all times of each zone, regardless of population.
~Snip~
the lack of solo & casual content and delays on raids & legendaries (not that I’ll do raids or get the legendaries, but I just don’t like that they delayed things they advertised as part of the xpac), bugs, and this feeling that the focus on the game is to manipulate things into gem store purchases. All in all, I’m glad I’ve passed on buying because I still feel like Anet did some shady and manipulative things with this xpac.
~Snip~
None of the above statements are true, there is plenty of solo/casual content in the HoT maps, and your statements about them delaying Raids and Legendaries is also blatantly false. As a matter of fact they stated before the release date was announced that Raids would be released at a minimum of 2 weeks after HoT went live, in order to give people the chance to actually play the new content first. As for the legendaries, it’s a long process an anyone that expected to be able to get them right away was just dreaming…you have to remember that not only are you getting the content that was released on 10/23, but all future content as well(at least until the next Xpac), that will include the 3 – 6 new Raid wings per year(I’m going on the low to high side to be safe) as well as all Living Story 3(maybe even 4)…and other things(I believe there will be another Guild Hall as well). You’re not only paying for HoT itself(the Magus Falls maps), but also future content that leads into future expansions, so you need to look at the cost from that point of view(at least that is how you should be looking at it).
As for my own personal opinion: Absolutely not, and this is my reasoning behind paying for what I bought, not only am I going to get what is(was) released on 10/23, but also all content updates for the forseeeable future or until the next expansion comes out(should they do another one), that is what my purchase gets me, not just the content that was released on 10/23, but also all content being released after 10/23, for which I need to spend nothing more.
It doesn’t take much to trigger chat suppression. I was trying to get a group together for a Teq defense and after about 3 messages of SHills needs X more, even though I varied it each time, I was chat suppressed and has to get a party nember to continue.
That’s exactly what they want you to do, Flesh, get people in each area to organize the small stuff, and 2 or 3 people to organize the over all map. Doing that should eliminate or dramatically reduce the chances of chat suppression(i.e. in your specific example, the person in charge of S. Hills is the one that should have been calling out for the number of people still needed while you organize the entire defense structure…sort of like a chain of command, an amazing concept I know).
There’s a perfect way around the chat suppression function that everyone should really think about when organizing large scale events like this(and I’ve seen plenty do it). You assign specific people to be responsible for each little area and getting the bodies they need for their specific area of coverage, it works wonders, a chain of command where you have 2 or 3 people overseeing the direction of the entire event with each little sub-event being handled by a local person.
Several misconceptions are present in this thread: 1. stopping your leveling of Masteries, that is almost impossible to do, far short of not doing any content at all as everything that give you experience will level your Mastery bar, you then only have to spend it on the Mastery you want(it continues to accumulate after the bar is full as well, it doesn’t just stop adding up because your bar fills up)…Maguuma events/kills for Maguuma masteries and Core Tyria for core masteries. 2. it doesn’t take as long as you think it does, if you bother to use XP boosters(which the devs sort of suggested several times during the course of all the information being released prior to HoT going live), perhaps the final tiers might take a little while, but really, you should be able to get 4 mil xp in no time at all if you just play the game and don’t really pay attention to the bar.
I think the simplest way to understand the system is that as long as you are participating at the beginning and the end you’ll get credit, and by participating they mean interacting with either creatures or objects that are related to the event as well as remaining in the event radius(some event radii aren’t well defined and you could conceivably wander out of the participation zone while still thinking your in it…in your specific case, if you are running around an area without fires looking for buckets to pour on the fires you are now out of the participation zone…it shrinks as the fires are put out).
That’s almost impossible to tell, since the map only stays open for 2 hours, even with a successful Meta completion the map still ends up shutting down and won’t kill you if that “victory” comes within the last 10 minutes. If you complete the Meta with more than 10 minutes to go, there isn’t sufficient time to do another entire Meta and the map will still shut down killing everyone, however all of the “dead” players end up spawning at the beginning of the map, most likely a completely new instance though.
I submitted a support ticket and they linked me to the forums main page. I assumed there would have been an official Arena Net response here since they referred
me to it, but I guess not.
There was an official response to it, a couple of days ago, so by now it’s buried somewhere back deep in the recesses of the forum…you can try finding it, or take my word for it. It only applies to those characters that have 100% Core Tyria map completion, and when they fix the bug those that have completed the affected maps will receive their rewards retroactively(I’m paraphrasing but it was something to that effect).
Let no one forgot Orr when the game first released <3
And yet they made it easier.
And then they made it harder.
Originally, the only difficulty was in the excess of enemies. The risen with anchors could pull you around, but for any decent player, avoiding them was trivial. All it took was a simple stop and go. Personally, I never had a problem with taking a stroll through Cursed Shore, and I remember AoEing packs down all the time. I used to play exclusively in Orr around the time, soloing a lot of the events including some of the temples.
Then the nerf happened. They removed a lot of the CC and culled a lot of enemies.
Then the buffs happened. They put back some CC, the anchors for example went from a pull to a cripple to an immobilize, and gave a lot of the enemies new skills which were much stronger.
The biggest difference of course is that now you’re not running around Orr in rares and below. I remember reaching risen while still wearing level 60ish blues and green and finding them very difficulty to kill. I went about half way through Devastation before heading to Lion’s Arch and crafting a full set of rare magic find gear, which I upgraded to exotic MF gear the same week and am mostly still using to this day.
In short, they culled mobs but made them stronger.
Yes, they culled mobs in Orr, to the point where the entire 3 zones are nothing…you can literally run from end to end in Cursed Shore using the main map…only having to zoom back in if you get stuck on something. Stronger mobs though…I’m not sure we play the same Orr zones…I only go there now when it’s part of the daily because I find it so easy, and I only have Exotic gear and a non-optimized build, because I play the way I want. You’ll never be able to open the main map and navigate any of the HoT zones(of course this is also due to the verticality factor and the fact you’d fall off an edge and die without knowing it, but that’s another fun factor in the new zones).
I have 4 issues with HoT expansion.
~Snip~
2. For Rangers, why lock some pets behind a 2 hour quest string? That quest is extra difficult because of the limited number of players allowed on the map instance.
3. The new maps themselves are confusing. The mini-map and main map are useless because they aren’t adapted to the multi-level maps, unlike regular maps like The Grove which is more adapted. Maybe this template can be used on the new maps. I spend most of my time trying to find a place, wondering around and having to kill the same mobs over and over just to survive.
~Snip~
Overall, I think HoT is good. But could do with tweaking. Oh I haven’t even mentioned the revenant bugs in this post. But hopefully all these issues will be tweaked in the future.
On point #2: I’m going to respond to these two points specifically…first, I just did the Dragon Stand Meta last night, and it in no shape or form took us 2 hours to complete, we were done somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour, from beginning to end. That 2 hours window is how long the map is open, and when we did it we had a little more than 30 minutes remaining on the timer before the map closed(some time had already passed by before we even started), some people wanted to try the Meta again, but there wasn’t enough time.
On point #3: The mini-map follows the main maps just fine, but then again, you have to know how to read a map to begin with. I have had zero problems using the mini-map to navigate any of the HoT zones, only zooming out to see what points I’m missing and the general direction. Perhaps it’s hard for you to see the up and down arrows that show which direction paths go in. but the mini-maps themselves are all based on the surface of the zone, with upper or lower areas represented by an arrow/ramp either pointing up or down, but then again…I’m very good at reading maps in general.
P.S. – As for those employees that left ArenaNet, I would bet it’s safe to presume they didn’t have significant involvement in HoT development, which is one reason they left ArenaNet(Eric Flannum left basically for a promotion, which would not have been forthcoming had he stayed at ArenaNet as you can’t get promoted to a position that is already filled).
Saying that people are victims of making assumptions because they didn’t even do basic research is pretty silly if you ask me.
Saying that people are to blame because they expected an expansion to be more of the game they were playing is what I would call pretty silly, if you ask me.
The fact many players did not understand how hard HoT would be is proof of how poorly ArenaNet communicated it. Which really, is only fitting to how poorly they have talked about HoT – they began selling the game (and not even just a preorder, rather asking the full price) before even announcing a release window, much less a release date. A lot of the information they gave about the game was only made available after presale had been going on.
A lot of information, for the records, including the quote you claim people should have read before buying the game, despite how ArenaNet was already asking people to buy the game by then.
So yeah, if you want to say it’s the players fault for not reading something that was not up while ArenaNet was asking them to buy the game, I’ll have to just point and laugh, Vayne. It’s obvious to anyone without an agenda that this is completely, unequivocally ArenaNet’s fault.
Test, you’re a little off base, since the announcement at PaxSouth it has been known that HoT wouldn’t be like Core Tyria…if everyone had paid attention to what ArenaNet was saying, but they didn’t. Like the amount of HP needed to unlock the Elite Spec, it was known that it was going to require a lot of HP(since they told people that listened to earn as many HP before the change was made to SP to HP). No, this lays entirely at the players own feet for not digesting all of the provided information.

What are you saying? My best guess is you used a recipe that was labeled account bound on a character without the proper profession. The recipes are account bound so you can move them to the proper character. Just like ascended and legendary gear. It does NOT indicate that using the recipe will unlock it across all characters, it IS still just a normal recipe.
That’s not true, at least it hasn’t been for me in the past when I’ve unlocked a recipe for one crafting profession on a completely different character than the one that will use it, the recipe has shown up in the character that has the crafting profession that would use it…maybe this is just something that happens with Ascended recipes?
Or just maybe my situation is the real bug and the recipes are supposed to be unlocked by the profession that uses them.
Mega server means there’ll be people on the map. .
does not seam to be working in the new maps, as they seam empty most of the time, and you continually get the notification to move to a more populated map (which is also empty) and lose your map participation bonus if you do…..
It is not working as intended in the Magus Falls/HoT maps, whether or not the one fix that has been put it in corrected the entire problem or only a portion of it I don’t know, but apparently it’s still and issue so what ever ArenaNet did didn’t completely fix the issue and hopefully they’re still working on correcting this.
I also think that a lot of people are doing the Halloween event and haven’t bothered to venture into the new HoT zones yet, but that’s just conjecture.
Personally I don’t have an issue with the HP’s as none of my characters need that many HP’s tp unlock the Elite Spec as most of them had approximately 190-200 HP’s from Core Tyria already stockpiled(of course that excludes the potential Revenant and any future possible new classes they might add, if that is the case). Then I only go after the commune HP’s or the soloable ones, of which there are sufficient numbers…should I ever desire zone completion, then I might say otherwise, but for now that isn’t on the table.

Osu, I’m missing 57 hero points after “adjustment”. Had 263, but ended up with 206 . TY Gaiyl Gray!l
You should have only ended up with 13, which is the 263 you had, minus the 250 to unlock the Elite Spec…or you had already spent some HP on the Elite Spec, but not completely unlocked it yet. which required 57 HP, and left you with 206…it’s simple math, but then most people can’t do simple math anymore.
Since you get refunded all the hero points when they reset the line and this player had 263 and after getting all refunded they somehow got 206 so how is that not a 57 hp missing kind of thing mate?
You clearly don’t read what this player is saying.
I read what he was saying, you didn’t read what I was saying…if you exceed the 250 threshold, then the Elite Spec gets fully unlocked for you, if you had already begun to unlock the Elite. In other words, ArenaNet finished what you started when they reduced the cost from 400 to 250 if you had already exceeded the 250 threshold. We are missing two key components of that persons information: 1. had they already started to unlock the Elite Spec, and 2. how many points had they already spent if they did start to unlock it…that’s what my answer was based on…which in hindsight is pure speculation on my part.
Event mobs in SW never gave experience, it was a complaint I’ve had ever since the beginning of LS S2 – first it was mobs in the story instances didn’t give exp (and more importantly didn’t trigger Kill Effect traits/sigils/food), then the unpleasant discovery of event mobs in SW doing the same.
Guess it’s not a big enough issue for ANet to care about fixing.
That’s actually a blatant falsehood, event mobs in SW did and do give exp/loot, it’s just not in the volume you’re expecting, so it appears as if they give no loot, but I can confirm from my own experience that they did drop loot on occasion, even if the percentage was negligible(I’d get loot from at least 2 – 4 mobs each event…but that “loot” included junk items…it’s all “loot” in the end).
As for HoT event mobs not dropping loot, I haven’t run across that problem yet…I get loot from all event mobs, maybe not the type of loot you’re expecting, but those junk items add up after a while.

What’s funny is that I got the message to move maps the other night while doing the legendary wyvern event with about 25 other people all up there.
Working as intended?
Working as intended if you were the only 25 people on that map, or there were only another 25 in the entire map for a total of 50(that’s the approximate number it reaches before deciding the map is empty and needs to be closed, but there is also a bug with how the Megaserver tech is populating the HoT maps at the moment[though I’m pretty sure that was already addressed once, might still be a little problem with it]).
When CS tells you they are still issuing character slots on a weekly basis and to wait, they mean just that…wait, I certainly hope you don’t think you’re the only person that qualifies for the extra slot and no where did they say in any of the replies when you would get it, just that they were working on getting them out…could take a week, could take a couple of months…patience is it’s own reward.
P.S. – If after HoT has been out a few months and you don’t have your slot, then I would’ve contacted CS, but not right away knowing how they were being distributed, even if friends of mine that bought them on the same day and the same package already got theirs.
Am I missing something here? Are you making real-world money off of loot? Cause if not, why does it kittening matter? You play games to kill time. You play games to have fun. Loot and exp are just bits on a server. What’s the big kittening deal? Why are you turning this into an optimization problem?
Are you serious? The primary reason to play games like these are the in-game rewards. Very few people play soley for the experience, and they are much more likely to quit after the first few times through.
The loot is what keeps people coming back.
Personally, I play for entertainments sake…I really don’t care whether or not a mob drops loot…I mean, yeah, I’ll see if there’s anything to pick up after I kill something, but I just move on to the next one if there isn’t…no skin off my back. People need to remember not to lump everyone playing a game in the same category, or that they all play it for the same reason, everyone has their own reason for playing.
