The blog on guild halls is one I’m most eagerly awaiting! And presumably there will later be a deep dive on the subject, with some real Q&A going on.

Hmm, and here I thought the blog posts where the deep dives, seeing as I don’t expect them to give out any more information than they appear to be doing in the blog posts. More details, but still a lot of questions, which is what I expected…you don’t give out all the details before hand. Just enough to wet peoples appetites.

On topic though, I wouldn’t expect them to need Merits to acquire. Now using Merits to upgrade your Guild Hall, that I do expect(in addition to influence of course).

Someone hasn’t paid close attention to some of the announcement, articles and/or interviews. There will be combat involved in some gliding, that was already stated. The more you increase your Mastery in gliding, the longer you can stay in the air, increase it another level and you can use updrafts…people don’t seem to be able read and comprehend to much anymore. There needs to be a drawback to gliding, and the endurance meter, just like the one we have for dodging, is it.

You realize they’re Devs and not public speakers, it makes a difference. Not sure what everyone was expecting, but they gave glimpses of an Outpost, a portion of the first map in HoT, as well as a glimpse at the first Adventure, which you didn’t really think was going to be hard, did you? Pretty much what I expected…and keep in mind, that’s from the Demo that will be at PAX East.

^ having the new borderland as expansion-only would effectively kill WvW for good. imagine if every few weeks, all of tyria except orr was completely locked out from PvE players, for an entire week, maybe even several weeks, unless they had the expansion.

that’s pretty much what would happen in WvW terms if the new borderland was expansion-gated.

Why are you assuming that it’s going to be only available every few weeks? Right now I’m pretty sure that all 5 maps -Borderlands x3, Edge of the Mists, and Eternal Battlegrounds- are accessible right now. The only limitation to them is the # of players that are able to get into the map, which leaves a queuing system. [EotM being the exception with the infinite map numbers generated through population balance for overflow.]

So they add a 6th map that is Expansion Only, how does that kill WvW? Sure there will be like a 90min+ queue to get into it, but that is really nothing new to GW2 players. Remember the 4-6hr queues during the game’s 1st season? How it was nearly impossible for people to get into EB because the popularity due to it being the only map with a giant castle in it? Players will still play the other maps while waiting in queue to get into that other map too.

because they confirmed they’ll replace the current borderlands with the new map, as part of a rotation system. so there would be weeks where the only thing non-expansion players can do is EotM and EB (and if they make a new EB in another expansion, not even that).

Yes, it will be part of a rotation that they haven’t figured out how they’re going to do it yet, that is was in one of the post PAX interviews. There’s a couple of options, they could replace all 3 Borderland maps with the new one, or leave two of them the same and rotate the 3rd in place of the original, changing it weekly between the different colors, that way everyone gets to have it as their ‘home’ borderlands, or some other system that we have no idea about.

If the problem is really to be solved, its with the downscaling technology. Scaling players down more appropriately will give the relevance and balance across the entire playerbase.

This is the preferable solution, currently you’re downscaled to what is essentially one lvl above the area’s level rating for a"new" player. In order to compensate for the full traits and higher armor/weapon components that you bring with you as a higher level to a lower level the proper way to do this would be to make your high level character one level below the nominal level. I’ll give an example, you take a lvl 80 into a lvl 35 area, the bar says you are lvl 35, but look at your Hero panel, the numbers say you’re at lvl 36, because at lvl 36 you’re an effective lvl 37 with full traits and armor/weapon bonuses. Honesty you should be at lvl 34 you’d be closer to the actual level of the content…and for those that say my math might be off…you need to go back to the original way downscaling was done and compare it to the current version, just keep in mind that this is only an example.

From there, you’ll need to work quickly to capture territory and shore up defenses, driving into ancient ruins to force back the enemy horde. Securing the high ground is key because it allows the Pale Reavers to provide fire support during the second phase of the map—nightfall. "

And yes I do see that it was intended for a slightly different crowd, but I think they made mistakes in that regard. Most vivid gamers with money to spend are in the 25-35y of age.

~Snip~
.

First off your demographics are a little off there, you need to change your range of people that play games that can afford it upwards, from 30 – 45+. There are a significant portion of those between 25 – 30 that are still paying off school debt and getting their feet firmly on the ground.

Your second error is in even attempting to make any reasonable connection between the original Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 was from the very beginning going to be completely different than Guild Wars, and there seems to be quite a few people that overlook that. They’re two entirely separate games, always were and always will be; the only thing that links them together besides the name is the lore and world that they comprise. Otherwise all other aspects are as different and intended to be that way as night and day.

Unlimited Harveting Tool Trade-In Vendor

Zaklex.6308

I’d like them to start making more and more tools and change them to account wide so I can have a copy on every single character (so they are selling skins vs the tool, per se) – such a hassle having to swap them around. Make more special tools like the frostbitten / watchwork tools for even more incentive to buy new “skins” that have a chance to get you something extra – don’t care just make them account wide!

Can you imagine the uproar from the crowd that has bought a set for every single one of their characters? Account wide is not going to happen, if you want a set for each of your characters you’ll have to purchase them or continue swapping. Nor is dividing them into tools, skins and bonuses going to happen…not after all this time.

Zaklex.6308

Well, there’s two different images of the Glory of Tyria, the stylized one with the ship being torn apart and DE falling from the sky, that’s just imagery and not actual events. I expect to find them battered and bloody somewhere in the tree tops in the wreckage of the GoT. Along with Trahearne and Canach, neither of which are corruptible because of their strong belief in and connection to the Pale Tree, just like Caithe…only those weak of mind and not firmly entrenched in the Dream are corruptible, which apparently is the majority of the Pact Sylvari members, who might pottentially be mostly Soundless/less committed Sylvari.

As for Faolain, it’s clearly shown in the trailer that she’s under the influence of Mordremoth as it’s her that kills the last Pact soldier using her staff as a pike(she stabs him through and lifts him in the air and then it fades into another scene).

Will the new content be too difficult solo?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

People who say GW2 is too easy or casual don’t know what they’re talking about. A lot of the content is crazy stupid hard.

Everyone has a different definition of what is hard. For the average player, most stuff in GW2 is relatively easy while still being engaging. There are a few things that are harder than normal, but I’m talking about Triple Trouble and Arah and things like that which are meant to be a challenge for the people who like that. That type of content doesn’t represent the whole of the game.

HoT will follow the same formula as the rest of the game in regards to difficulty. By that I mean there will be plenty of content for Average Joe to enjoy, and there will be a few hardcore bosses or whatever for the hardcore players at the end of the bell curve. No one is forcing Average Joe to fight a hardcore boss. These things are entirely optional.

I’m going to disagree with you here and say that Average Joe shouldn’t expect to waltz through the Maguuma jungle. I don’t honestly expect to be able to solo very much of the content myself(and other than dungeons[which I don’t necessarily partake in] and some group events) I prefer to solo everything, including Champs if I can…not expecting that from HoT at all, even with the lean towards it being a casual friendly game.

Real life vs temporary availability of LS

surely u can spare literally 50 SECONDS once every few weeks to log in and then immediatley log out

Or program your computer to log into the game and then shutdown every two weeks.

Don’t do this. It could get your account suspended.

I don’t agree with the way they released LS2, especially with an expansion on the way, but using macros or third party programs to play the game for you (even something very simple) is clearly against the TOS.

Logging in with a macro to unlock the LS is not playing the game and does not give you an advantage over other players, which is specifically what the TOS says: anything that gives the player an advantage over the game or another player is against TOS. A.net wouldn’t tell people all they need to do is log in during the live release of each episode to unlock the story for free if they thought people would automate it.

If anyone wants to wait, they did say at the very beginning that some time after LS2 was finished they would offer all of the episodes in a bundle, most likely at less than an average of 200 gems per episode.

Lord knows it is tough enough to get ahead in the game financially as it is.

Really, I don’t run dungeons, I don’t work the market(as in I never list items, just sell to highest bidder, but with the restriction that the price needs to be at a minimum 3 times Merchant value). I’m also not interested in a Precursor or Legendary so I’m not looking to make enough gold for that…and I just passed 400g with over 1500 hrs played. I know it’s not a lot by any standards, but to say it’s hard to get ahead in this game…unless you’re only doing certain tasks or are looking to make a Legendary play WvW exclusively(so I’ve heard, no real experience on the gold side there). I call your statement false…I’ve never been hurting for gold and I’ve bought a few things here and there I needed to raise a crafting discipline or for something I’m making. So no on the P to P trading, use the TP, I do to sell my excess crafting materials all the time.

i think the HoM analogy is best: you earn “points”, but you don’t choose where they go (so task X earns a point in Y mastery), just like each HoM monument was dedicated to a specific branch of the game.

In a couple of the other interviews(whether live or ‘written’ I can’t recall), Colin stated that you would indeed be earning Mastery points that you can then put into the different Masteries…so it almost sounds like you can choose what to put those Mastery points in to, which actually makes more sense for PvE where you will have multiple different Mastery categories that will expand as the game expands.

DX 11 support? WvW skill lag fix?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

Also, it’s not so much a matter of the hardware as it is the software. Microsoft won’t release newer versions of DX on older OS, so DX12 that someone mentioned is a very bad idea because it won’t work on Win7. OpenGL and 64-bit isn’t controlled by MS.

Microsoft is offering win10 & DX12 as a free upgrade to win7 users so that point is moot.

Go read the preview announcement again, not everyone will be given a free upgrade to Win10 from older versions. Some people that are running Win7 and Win 8/8.1 will/are still going to have to pay for an upgrade.

As for skill lag in WvW and big world events, that has to be localized, because it *does not’ effect everyone. Same with the European lag, that’s a European issue and I highly doubt has anything to do with the games engine, otherwise it would affect everyone that plays.

Having said that, it’s not has hard for them to change/add support for DX11/12 as you think, the engine is easily adaptable than people believe it to be. Whether or not it’s a valuable use of resources and money is an entirely different issue.

[Suggestion] Map Completion Reset

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

Better to make all waypoints account bound, unlocked if you reach maximum level of the given zone, all else on new alts would still be locked of course for the sake of map completion reward.

That would create two(2) types of map completion, since WP’s count as part of map completion. If you unlock them account wide, you are no longer doing map completion the second, third, fourth, etc. and there fore shouldn’t be given the same rewards, like how about making WP’s account unlocked. Then when you do map completion you no longer get your Gifts of Exploration? Now do you see the problem with your proposal.

If you are starting from 0% the fastest way to get the percentage up is to Fort hop. In other words, cap a Fort, leave it to the Mordrem and while the Mordrem are attacking go cap another Fort, moving in circle. This works especially well if no one else is capping Forts and is my usual MO.

As for the Labrynth, people don’t realize or remember that the best chance of getting Carapace armor boxes, if you still need them is at Tier 3.

As for those that say once they get their Lumi armor they’ll never come back, then you’re choosing to leave the best loot map that is currently around. I’m not interested in the Lumi armor and I’ve completed the Carapace set. I still do SW every day and when I have excessive Crests I go and buy the Loot bags for 96c plus 10 crests, filling up T5 and T6 mats that way, without much effort.

Ascended was planned before the game even came out. The first public announcements were relatively shortly after launch.
Make no mistake, it may have taken a long time before all the slots got an ascended variant but it started very early.

http://www.pcgamer.com/arenanet-guild-wars-2-ascended-backlash/

Note the date. November 15th, not even 3 months after release, and they were about ready to push out the patch that was going to add the first ascended gear. Not just talking about it, no it was ready, done.
Ascended was planned well before the game launched.

I can guarantee 100% that Ascended wasn’t planned before launch, it was only within the first month after release and people were already getting Exotic gear that it was decided to come out with another gear level.

Yeah, because the under 30 crowd are buying “phablets” and “tablets” more and more. Thus playing casual “games” (I hate calling crap like Candy Crush or Farmville “games”).

Please sir, find that game that has no grind and only has content and enjoy it for yourself.

Elder Scrolls

It’s actually quite easy to make a game with no grind and only content. The thing is, you won’t be able to play it for a loooong time. All of the individual titles in those franchises I played like 100 to 400 hours each. Guild Wars 2 I played 2,500 hours.

And that’s what MMO devs want, to keep you playing. So yea, it is possible, they just won’t do it.

Note, those are all single player games…name an MMO that has no “grind” and I’ll agree you have a point. Otherwise it’s like talking apples and oranges.

P.S. – I put “grind” in quotes because one persons “grind” is another persons “fun”.

NO! NO NO NO NO NO! No pre-orders! Please do not encourage ArenaNet or NCSoft to create pre-order bundles that explicitly withhold features/content from those who don’t pay early. EA already does this and the end up releasing unfinished or poorly made games. Pre-orders are how big corporations make a profit without even delivering a product.

ArenaNet, please, I beg you. IF you do a pre-order option PLEASE do not make it so that there is some content/feature/item that you can only get by giving you guys money for an unfinished product. I want to give you my money, but not like this.

Most pre-orders do not withhold features/content but give you extra features/content that those purchasing on release do not get. I doubt you could do that with an MMO as opposed to a single player game.

When Wynne makes here revelation to Caithe she simply says “Dragon” – she doesn’t say which Dragon and Mordremoth wasn’t awake at that point (correct me if I’m wrong). So it’s possible that Trahearne did know and think that by taking out Zhaitan he’d fixed the issue. We know which dragon Wynne was talking about but at what point did they know exactly which dragon?

Apparently people seriously need to redo the mission.

Let me quote word for word because I’m seeing this a lot that there’s no mention of it being Mordy that made them.

We come from the jungle dragon. We belong to it. We’re meant to serve it.”

The jungle dragon.

They come from the JUNGLE dragon.

Not the Undead Dragon. Not the Orrian Dragon. Not the Desert Dragon. Not the Deep Sea Dragon. Not the Rock Dragon. Not the Ice Dragon. Not even the Dragon. The JUNGLE Dragon.

Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuunglllllllllllllllle

Can it be any less clear that ArenaNet explicitly calls them Mordremoth’s creations?

I may detest the direction of the sylvari’s origin, but at least I’m not trying to claim there’s a lack of mention when it is very clearly mentioned.

Konig, you saved me the trouble, and I think you’re falling into the same trap as everyone else and focusing on the first line, while not paying closer attention to the last line “We’re meant to serve it.” Now depending on how one wants to interpret that, it could mean several things, and one of those would be that though they come from the jungle dragon, there’s a chance they could/would not serve the jungle dragon. Yes, they’re meant to serve the jungle dragon, doesn’t mean they have to or will.

It’s incredulous that you would even think of wasting valuable time on a trial. As for her withholding the knowledge from the Pact, you’re all missing the key element here: “We’re MEANT to serve.*” That one statement alone means they can be broken free from being dragon minions, and at this point in time aren’t directly serving the dragon, and only some of the Sylvari in the Pact turn…not all.

To be honest, I can’t fathom how a chest farming zerg can cause a Breach fail unless the players that are already in the existing map join the zerg to farm chests. The Breach can be and should be successfully completed by a minimum of 35 players(possibly less), 40 – 50 optimal, that leaves room for about a 100 players to chest farm. Just from the OP’s description it sounds almost like the people he had taxied in weren’t all that good. You actually have a greater chance of failing the Breach with a full map because that causes the Champs to scale up that much more if you have each base full of people to go after the Champs.

As for the alleged A.net player amongst the zerg in the OP’s post, I take that with a grain of salt, but then again, it’s play how you want and a chest farm zerg in no way on it’s own is going to cause a Breach fail…or loss of a base unless the players defending the base are incompetent.

I’m always trying to tell people to NOT taxing anyone into the the maps to prevent the scaling up of the Breach, but no one seems to understand that simple concept.

@Zaxares: Interesting theory. Wynne did say “We were meant to serve the jungle dragon” – not that they are dragon minions that gained free will. It’s a subtle distinction, but it would be hilarious if after all this it does get turned around altogether into the sylvari simply being a convenient source of minions rather than minions themselves.

As much as I like and really really want to believe that theory, her full statement was, “We come from the jungle dragon. We belong to it. We’re meant to serve it.”

Perhaps you bolded the wrong segment of Wynnes statement…rebolding it to point in the context I believe it should be taken. They Sylvari may come from the Dragon and were meant to serve it, but that doesn’t mean they would serve Mordremoth if something intervened before they could be controlled…at least you could see it that way if you so desired.

The expression’s popularity may be more region based as well. I grew up in NY and remember hearing it, but I don’t hear it often out west. Perhaps the New England area has more turnpikes, or perhaps I overheard my parents and grandparents use the term (perhaps both)

Bingo…turnpikes are more prevalent back east than out west, hence it’s less common this way(though I’ve still heard of the expression before myself).

not impossible.. very difficult though….
For me…. the problem was that the Stability you get from Braham’s Bubble wasnt working for me… I was still getting CC’ed and launched even with stability…
very frustrating

The bubble doesn’t protect you from getting launched, only from the Dragon’s claw attacks and rocks if those happened to hit you as well.

Forgotten Seal LS Reward Has No Upgrade Slot

One of the rewards from the latest living story chapters is the exotic Forgotten Seal accessory. The thing is, it has no upgrade slot, rendering level 80 greens with a jewel upgrade actually better stats than this exotic piece. I’m just wondering if this was a mistake or on purpose, because it makes no sense for it to just NOT have an upgrade slot, unlike pretty much every other accessory in the game. Hopefully Anet fixes this? Because people with level 80 greens and an adequate jewel will have no use for this item.

Oops, sorry, I thought I remembered seeing an upgrade slot on it yesterday. That’s what I get for going by memory.

Edited because my original statement was incorrect

Odd, I didn’t know someone had to have specific reasons to not like PvP? How about it’s not my style, having said that though, I did play some PvP in GW1, on rare occasions when our PvE guild wanted to do some PvP(we have some PvP members, but they eventually left) and I participated in HoH/GvG matches, but almost always had to play my monk…even though I wasn’t the best healer, I did a decent enough job most of the time. Though in HoH we did do the Ranger thing. PvP has never been my favorite game mode, not even when I would play an occasional FPS…I was always there as the cannon fodder for everyone else or to take away enemies from trying to kill my sons, but I had fun, and somewhere along the way…I must have done some PvP otherwise I wouldn’t have any rank points, not that I remember actually participating and it must have been during the first 6 months to year some time. I just do not like it…which doesn’t explain why I like the WvW(of course, I haven’t been there in quite a while, but I do find that fun[might have to do with the time I was mapping with my engi naked and someone thought I was an easy kill…to bad for him I managed to kill him first…must have been embarrassed to be killed underwater, no less by a naked engi]).

Vinewrath: Is it just me, or...?

In my point of view, tainted by such masterpieces as HPMoR, Vinewrath’s flower is actually a fairly unimportant extension of itself. It retreats simply to maintain the illusion of being easily defeatable.

I think you’re closer to the truth here than you realize, because those vines that are stretching all the way across SW to Camp Resolve originate from the Vinewrath, and they retreat and disappear each time a Vinewrath Champion is killed.

Participating in the Vine thing

I think LFG works well for the Silverwastes; anytime I’m in a map, once it gets to about 20%, people are happy to join. Getting to twenty isn’t too bad either. I’d say 2 people per fort can tak all the forts and that alone gets the progress bar going.

So don’t be discouraged about empty seeming maps; they can fill quick.

And Donari is right, using seige in those maps is very fun, and can make many events go much better. That’s why defending the supply bulls heading to forts is important, and building/defending siege at the vine wrath event.

It actually only takes one person to capture any of the forts, I’ve done all of them solo, and they can be held solo, but it’s much easier with more, a minimum of 4 per fort will not scale up the Mordrem attacks but make defending all the walls much easier.

Vorpp did nothing wrong

So where Sylvari fall into that spectrum is up for interpretation and possibly justified because they are created like devices/machines rather than born like animals, and the nature of their intelligence was unknown at Vorpp’s time

I cut the rest of your post out because here is where I think you’re wrong, and this is a completely logical response…not emotional. If they were constructed or created like devices/machines, they would have almost no need to learn of the world around them. However, they are neither constructed nor created, but instead grow inside pods and birth having completely grown into an adult, with some knowledge of the world, but still having the desire and need to learn. Remember, they’re sentient plants, so they would grow like plants, in this case, they grow entirely within the seed pod and aren’t born until they’re and “adult”. I’m using the term “adult” to represent their size and not age, as when they’re born they’re considered sprouts, even though they’re full size and have to go to “classes”. What I do think, is that they were meant to be sentient Dragon minions able to think for themselves, but with underlying “instructions” from Mordremoth, which was broken when Ronan planted the Pale Tree’s seed near Ventari and it could “learn” his teachings.
