It does not get wasted, it will continue to build up in the background(I’ve accidently filled up half a bar on a Mastery level because I forgot to unlock the previous one).

Do a second play through and change your choice at the beginning…remember, there are 2 different options for the start of the story, and that is supposed to change the rest of it…somehow, or, play it as a Sylvari. Use your imagination, what ever it takes to make it seem fun to you.

Is this a game or a social experiment?

Personally speaking, this expansion delivered exactly what I’ve wanted and hoped for. Are the new zones challenging? Yes. And that is explicitly what the Devs told us to expect for our level 80 characters months before going into this expansion.

There is a difference between zone being challenging, and zone requiring being in a group. Also, for your information, many of the problematic things are not challenging per se – they end up being really easy when you are in a group (some of course remain punishingly hard even then, but that’s a minority).~Snip~

Which zone requires you to be in a group? I can even run through Tangled Root solo, and that is the one everyone seems to complain about..and I’m no pro gamer, might play a lot of hours, but I’m in no hurry to get anywhere, so it doesn’t matter how long it takes, but that is just me personally.

If survivability is an issue

Nah, enjoyment is an issue. I can survive just fine, it’s just extremely irritating. Just like the original orr before nerfs was with tons of mobs using pulls, pushes and knockdowns at the drop of a hat.

I can survive just fine, but if getting from point a to point b means getting constantly interrupted by cc-happy mobs every 3 steps, even a short walk becomes an annoyance that eats at my fun.

I have to disagree on this, I loved the original Orr, it felt like we were on Zhaitan’s doorstep with how many mobs there were at release. I was majorly disappointed when I went there after the mob density nerf…no way on Tyria should I be able to open the main map and run from one end of Cursed Shore to the other, but that’s how it is now…there’s no worry about getting swarmed by a bunch of enemies, no strategy at all, unlike the HoT maps where you have to pay attention to your surroundings, but even those sometimes are easily traversable…yes, even that path in TR with all the groups of Pocket Raptors, they’re easily out run, or if you don’t want to out run them, just kill them all, it’s not like they don’t die in 2 or 3 shots.

P.S. – Once you unlock all of the Waypoints in any of the new maps, when are they ever all contested? I’ve yet to find them all except the first one Contested at the same time, in any of the maps(with the exception of DS, but then there were 2 not contested).

I don’t know if it’s unfinished or not but it’s blatantly obvious the grind for elites (when the cost was 400 hp) was padding the content and that’s it.

I’ll never buy kitten expansion from Anet again. Not unless it’s the size of at least Nightfall. We got $25-30 worth of content at best.

Now I’m not saying I hate HoTs, I love playing the revenant, it’s breathed some new life back into the game for me but that doesn’t excuse how little content there actually is in the expansion.

Don’t forget, that $50 also buys you all of the future LS content that is to be released until the next expansion…it’s a new business model, pay upfront for future releases…oh wait, that’s what pre-purchase means.

>They added timers to give a sense of urgency.

There is no timer on the wyvern event. That is a major part of my concern. There is a timer on daybreak, but there is no indication that the wyvern event will end at daybreak.

>Look at it this way, it’s a nocturnal animal. There for, it will be at a big disadvantage in the day time, so instinct and self preservation will kick in, and it will run off to safety.

Utogi tells us that wyverns hunt by day. No other wyvern in the game vanishes in this way. Also it doesn’t flee, it just vanishes. If it DOES flee, then surely that should count as it being defeated, and the event should succeed. What battle has anyone ever been in where the one who runs away is crowned the victor?

All of the Night time Legendary bosses end at Daybreak…every…single…one…of…them. Yes, even some of the daytime Legendary wyverns will disappear if you do not kill them before Nightfall starts…I have witnessed it with my very own eyes(the one at the Jaka Itzel being the specific one I’m taking about). There are other Champions that do the same thing, they spawn and are either killed or disappear when one of the day/night cycles starts, if they don’t just disappear on their own because their event ends without any resolution.

As for the failure part, even though the Event fails, you still get half a reward in Exp and gold(no karma), so you do get something, but not what you would get if you were victorious. Does this make more sense now?

It doesn’t matter if you’re running on a potato or a NASA supercomputer, a 32-bit client will cap out at 4 gigs of memory and crash when it tries to go over. The only thing you can do on your end is to cut down on things like texture detail and character model rendering and make sure to let your game patch fully before playing in areas that tend to push that limit.

That’s would explain why I don’t know what all this talk about crashing is about, I’m running the 64bit Version of Win7 and forgot about the limitations of 32bit.

See, another thing with the scaling is that it also effects breakbars. It’s a lot easier to melt through a boss with just a few people because you only need a little bit of CC where as in a large zerg you need a ton of CC and half the people there will just continue to 1 spam.

~Snip~

I’m not sure where you got this concept from, but my personal observation of the break bar tells me otherwise. I’ve watched the break bar of some of the Legendary bosses during the night time events in VB, and I can guarantee you the my rangers LB#4 reduces the break bar the same amount whether there are 5 people or 25 people fighting the boss. Now it’s possible a Dev will confirm that the Break bar scales up like HP with group size, but until I see it in game, I’m going to disagree.

So why did they buy a product they didn’t want?

Because they didn’t have enough information to realize they wouldn’t like it.

Astral, most of the time I think your posts are intelligent, but this is just flat out wrong…the only information we didn’t have(and we had an inkling of it way beforehand was the 400 HP for Elite Specs). All other information, including the difficulty of the zones was released way before the game went live, and we actually knew that it would take a lot of HP to unlock your Elite, but almost no one paid attention to the information that was given out. Perfect example, I had just under 200 HP on my ranger, but I knew fully well that wasn’t enough to unlock Druid and was trying to obtain as many HP as possible before the change over to XP not granting additional HP after lvl 80. I knew what the difficulty was going to be like, but I figured I could still solo most of the content(and I can, and I’m just a scrub that doesn’t really care about his gear or weapon stats[granted, they’re Exotic, but no real interest in specific builds]). I don’t care if I die a million times, that’s sort of the fun for me, that or seeing if I can actually run through the map without getting downed(I can make it through the one everyone hates easy enough solo). I was one of the people that hated the nerf to Orr, I loved the density of the maps when we first started, now they’re boring, I can run from one end to the other without having to pay attention to the map(I can literally open the main map and run on there, how fun is that?). Technically speaking, anyone that prepurchased who’s 30 days is up isn’t due a refund, but knowing how ArenaNet works they will give them refunds anyways.

You shouldn’t need convincing on buying the expansion, you’ll either buy it or you won’t…any product that needs to convince me I need it…will be a complete waste of my time and I won’t bother with it…it’s as simple as that.

So you agree I shouldn’t buy it either?

Read what I said again, and again if you have to…then understand this…the decision on whether or not to purchase HoT is only a decision you can make. If you’ve already decided not to buy it, then don’t I, nor should anyone else have to convince you to buy it. It’s a game, it has been advertised, advertisements are designed to ENTICE you to buy something, not convince you, two different subjects. So maybe you should correct your question to be “why is so hard for you to entice me to buy HoT”, replace convince with entice and you’ll be asking the right question.

I certainly agree with you. Gold should be really hard. But I’ve spent at least an hour on the Fallen Masks one now and still can only get to 19 max. I just think they need to be better balanced. They need to factor in the animation times a little more, but I donno, I’m prolly just super frustrated right now with them, lol. Cheers.

If you watched the Guild Chat where they talked about the Fallen Masks one, the Dev specifically said the Mask spawn in a “random” rotation of which there are 3, so keep trying it and watching the patterns. Eventually you’ll figure out which rotation has spawned and then you’ll be able to tell which mushrooms go where, he also said some of them aren’t straight forward and the sequence to get them will take time to figure out.

players that are present are wise enough to use CC when break bars appear and to dodge AOE’s when necessary

This right here is the answer to almost all of the bosses in HoT, the break bar performs two purposes in most cases, if not all. One is to make cancel what ever skill or escape it was performing and the other is to make the boss vulnerable and enter a burn phase…it applies to every boss with a break bar. If people paid attention and used any CC they have(and any CC will work, doesn’t matter what it is, just some reduce the bar more than others, even a Rangers pet that has a CC will help). Breaking the boss bars will speed up all boss encounters in HoT.

But yeah, I find it annoying that their line attack deals so much damage, persists so long, has a hitbox that is larger than the visible indicator, and is far from the only tool in their kitten nal, for all it’s strength.

~Snip~

Are you sure it’s not your graphics settings that are preventing you from seeing the entire line? The hit box of that line does not extend beyond it’s graphical representation, which goes from the yellow down the center to black on the outsides. I’ve dodge right between two of them without taking any damage, so maybe you aren’t seeing the entire graphical display and that’s why the hit box looks larger than the line.

P.S. – I have absolutely no problem with their current difficulty or damage output, even if I do get killed occasionally, but then again, I have an odd sense of fun…I decide what is fun for me, not anyone else…I can make anything fun short of real life death, if I wanted to.

Thank you for your reply, Dengar! It is my feeling, as well. Unfortunately, there has been a couple let-downs lately, and I do think as you do; we must voice it! Hopefully, that will be sooner than later; I want to be ready for the raids.

The first raid wings they will introduce dont need you to be in ascended gear.
And i would guess that by that time they introduce the final wings that need ascended gear, you will have enough drops of random ascended armor and weapon boxes from the first wings, wvw, pvp or lower level fractals, to have a full ascended built as you can change the stats on ascended gear for a cost that equals the cost of an exotic set.

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, Anet has already retracted their statement that Ascended armor would be needed to do any of the Raids, it might be recommended, but it is not necessary. You will be able to complete the Raids in Exotic armor.

Zaklex.6308

While I’m all for harder fights, I think the OP has a point. Unfortunately, all we can do is spitball how “many” are in each camp. ANet will have a better idea. However, it’s going to take time for this to shake out. The true test will be what the maps are like once the initial exploration push is done with and most of the players are only bothering to farm the meta events for shinies.

Flesh may be on to something, though. It’s a compromise, but unlike many, it does leave those who like challenge with interesting fights. If they want more mobs at once, they can always gather ’em up.

They might be able to satisfy both sides by decreasing trash mob density (some areas have large numbers of strong mobs, just standing there) rather than decreasing difficulty. Allow for people to more easily run to get to where they want but keep the fights at the current level for when they do fight.

I have yet to find a single area that is over run with to many trash mobs(not even the location in Auric with all the Pocket Reapers) that I can’t just run past…and I do mean no where. I’m also one of the people that loved Cursed Shore upon release, and find it utterly boring to run through now…really, I’m right in an Elder Dragons back yard and I can literally run from end to end without dying not even once? I can already run through the entire Verdant Brink zone without getting downed, and that’s on my Ranger with only Exotic gear. As for stating that we weren’t told all of HoT would be challenging…I beg to differ. There were numerous times when people asked about thee challenging group content and something was shown and it was explained that what ever they showed was not the challenging group content everyone was waiting for…which if you comprehended those statements properly it meant that all content was challenging to a degree…and I consider myself a casual player(not in time spent, the true definition of casual).

reguardless,
my point is things dont need to be easier, just let the content stay difficult

I get your point. But as I described in my first post here, I don’t see how skill challenges in HoT require skill. They don’t. All they require is reliance on your friends or mercy of bystanders (which will become more easy to see after most people will be done with them as skill challanges are a one-time deal).

You should correct your response, the only HC that are a one time deal are the communing ones, all others may be repeated indefinitely…now you won’t gain any more HP from completing the champ HC, but you will gain XP/K/G and rewards if they offer them.

You were not expected to be playing through HoT the first time with the Elite Spec, it was expected that you would use your Elite Spec on a second play through.

Second play through? You mean got through the maps doing the events? 1st, 2nd or 3rd play through don’t have much meaning when the game is relatively open world like HOT is.

And who said that anyway?

You were not expected to be playing through HoT the first time with the Elite Spec, it was expected that you would use your Elite Spec on a second play through.

According to who?

These people that invent reasons for why it’s the way it is are kind of funny since the real reason it’s the way it is has been painfully obvious since about one hour after HoTs launch.

It’s content padding and that’s it.

Quite obviously reading comprehension is not at the top of peoples lists anymore. Intent, intention, inference…those 3 words(which hopefully I won’t have to define) are what I’m used to determine that the Elite Specs were not expected to be used on the first play through of HoT(story if you want to be that anal, but changing the entire class to your Elite Spec is going to make the entire jungle play differently, even if you’ve already uncovered all of the Open World areas…that perhaps is a matter of semantics, but I’m big on semantics.

Zaklex.6308

You were having a lot of fun doing Hero Challenges, getting satisfaction from finding them and completing them. How is that gone? Could it be that the activity itself was not fun, just the reward?

Yeah, they should just remove all rewards from everything, because rewards aren’t satisfying at all. Rewards/achievements aren’t satisfying at all. We should just start with everything unlocked. Would not ruin the game at all… I said the satisfaction of seeking them out was gone, not that the game-play wasn’t fun.

Actually, I believe this would be a better game without so much focus on reward, but then it wouldn’t really be an MMO. I hope that Raids and Masteries provide the sense of accomplishment you want. I’m fully behind the idea that obtaining whatever is gated behind those is time-consuming.

ANet now realizes its mistake with Elite Specs, which was in not being clear how much it would take to unlock one. They’ve compromised. Unfortunately for you, it means you have shift your sense of accomplishment elsewhere.

I’m in favor of the change, though I don’t think they’ve gone far enough. Exploration should be something for solo play, not herd play. Unfortunately, it will probably take months with many complaints about no one wanting to come help with the one-and-done HC’s for ANet to realize that. I’m not saying they should be easy, but they should be possible to solo — and not just by those who can solo a dungeon.

There are people that don’t like doing raids or PvP(any type of PvP, including WvW, but then again, PvP automatically had the Elites unlocked so that’s a no go). There’s another thing that most players are forgetting, it was not intended for us, the players, to use the Elite Specs on the FIRST play through of HoT, that is why the original cost was so high(which I knew long before since I paid attention when they stated that the ~200 HP you would have left over from World Completion would only unlock half the ES). It’s quite apparent that most people don’t know how to think and read anymore, nor listen and comprehend…Colin was only partially correct in saying the cost wasn’t well stated before hand, it was, just no one listened and grasped the significance of the information being spit out.

Why I'm requesting a Refund for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zaklex.6308

I call BS on the parenting bit, it’s all about time management…how you manage your time, working, eating, sleeping and playing, both for yourself and family…and making sure the you yourself are happy is going to make your family happier…that’s a proven psychological fact. As for obtaining a refund, I see no valid reason for A.net/NCSoft to give you one…also, you, along with many others obviously didn’t understand that it was going to take a lot of HP to unlock the Elite Spec, I knew long before hand that the ~200 HP pts I had on most of my characters wasn’t going to be sufficient to unlock the entire Elite Spec. Nor did I expect to use the Elite Spec on the first play through of HoT, I presumed it was known that it was more for a second/subsequent play through. Of course I realize that most people need more than 6 hours of sleep each night, even though it has now been proven that we need less sleep as we get older, and that the 8 hour standard is not the ideal. Anyways, good luck, and if you manage to get that refund, more power to you.

You were not expected to be playing through HoT the first time with the Elite Spec, it was expected that you would use your Elite Spec on a second play through. I knew that the ~200 HP I had on my 6 characters was NOT going to completely unlock the Elite, how did I know that, I listened and read what Anet had to say in the lead up to HoT. No matter them saying they didn’t clearly state the intent, it was. I knew the Beta unlocks were only for testing purposes to get feed back and find bugs/issues. This is a problem with everyone having short attention spans and not comprehending what they are being told. All of this was known to us, everyone just ignored the signs…so you get what happened, the number of points needed reduced. I no longer have incentive to even do the majority of Hero Challenges in HoT for any of my characters, I’ll just do enough of the Communing ones to reach 250 and viola’, complete.

250 HP For Elites [Feedback][Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

Here’s something to consider, my main had just under 200 HP waiting for HoT, and I knew that wasn’t enough to unlock more than half of the Elite Spec. before the total amount needed was announced, was I the only one that really paid attention to what A.net was saying leading up to the HoT going live?!?

Second, for those that are saying now they can play through the jungle with the Elite Spec, did you not consider that after you played through it once on your Core Spec and you unlocked the Elite that you could/should go back and play it again with the Elite Spec? I think that was the real intent but it appears most players can’t think for themselves anymore, they have to be spoon fed all of the information in tiny little tidbits.

Third, someone said that a player who had Word Completion on all of his characters was not a casual player…let me point you to the definition of casual: “irregular; occasional” . I took an entire year off and still did World Completion on 4 of my 7 characters, all including WvW. To say a casual player is one that only plays sometimes is not necessarily true, you can still be a casual player and play the game daily…whom ever came up with this definition: “Usually Disparaging. a person who plays video games that do not require much skill or time commitment.” should be…harmed…that is just a lazy player, imo(and don’t tell me it’s only for younger or able bodied people, anyone can develop skill unless you’re completely uncoordinated, unless you have a debilitating medical condition[I’m sorry, getting old does not count].

Now there’s really no reason to do the Hero Challenges in the HoT maps, unless you’re that interested in getting the map completion rewards or stocking up your HP points for the next Elite Spec. Personally I’ll probably do the easy ones, those that only require communing and ignore all the battle ones….I really don’t need that many points on any of my characters to unlock the Elites now…there is no challenge in growing my characters, which is exactly one of the things that those Elites represent.

Feeling Rorted - Anet wasting my time?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

No need to be rude, I agree. However, a couple of hours a night every night, plus all weekend long – that’s 10 hours a week + say a good eight per saturday and sunday? So that’s 26 hours a week?

I would say that might be the average for a young person with no other obligations outside of work. It’s really not the average at all for people at most other stages of their lives.

Not necessarily, I did that when I was married and had children, and no, my ex didn’t get or annoyed for several reasons. I did the stuff that needed to be done when it needed to be done, I spend time with the family when there was time, but everyone in our household was/is very independent. Playing GW2 is a great way to forget about the real world, which is just freaking annoying. All the BS news about so-called refugees from Syria, hurricanes, flooding, shooting, etc., etc.,…I don’t care…I have almost no empathy for anyone. I work, I eat, I play and I sleep…and I’m quite happy with that life style.

I might play a lot of hours, but I still consider myself a casual player as I do things on my own time, I don’t rush through anything…I play the game casually. This change may have been made for the majority, but it was part of the progression that was being introduced, if people weren’t expecting it, that is their own fault. I knew it was going to take a lot of HP to unlock the Elite, even with the 200 I have on most of my characters I expected to need quite a bit more…and now, what’s the point in doing the HP challenges if the Elite is unlocked, map completion in HoT, not needed, HP not needed now until next Elite released, then I can worry about at that time.

Locking the story behind needing a particular level of a certain Mastery, brilliant, now there is no cohesion to the story. You can all of the sudden traverse the poison areas without have unlocked the necessary Mastery that would allow you to safely go through that territory. Players need to think before they start crying, and that is what I considered it. If you wanted to complete the expansion in a weekend, then expect to hunker down and play it for 48 hours, otherwise look forward to having several weeks(if not months) of fun, enjoyable challenging content…neither of which happened.

I personally think for the next game they should just model the entire planet of Tyria as Open World and do live updates, changing it as events unfold. Would players get angry if they missed particular events and an area completely changed, most likely, but that’s as close as you’ll come to a living world as you can get.

Feedback on Mob Density and Exploration

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

I disagree, the mob density isn’t quite enough in some areas…I really shouldn’t be able to just run through any of the maps without having to kill anything…and at this stage I can do that.

It’s just like what they did with Cursed Shore after launch, only they did it before players complained. I actually preferred the original Cursed Shore where you couldn’t take two steps without being mobbed, it felt like you were on Zhaitans door step, but when the did the mob culling it felt deserted.

I should not be able to run through those zones without getting harangued by enemies, especially in HoT. They actually need to increase the mob density a bit, imo…and I’m technically a casual player(not based on time played, based on play style).

Of course everyone has their own opinion and should be allowed to express it, I’m just expressing mine as the opposite of yours.

Change to HoT Story Gating

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zaklex.6308

Zaklex.6308

So how are you addressing the players being able to pass through the poison fields deeper in Magus Falls, as that was the point of having this gate in the first place? Players don’t seem to understand it’s integral to the story line that you have that Mastery first…in this case I disagree with this change and will wait until I have that Mastery to continue onwards…that’s my honest opinion.

Rytlock destroys them much earlier on…

Why can’t he do so now?

I haven’t seen Rytlock destroy a single poison field up to this point, as a matter of fact the only thing that resembles a poison field I’ve come across is the underground lake. If you’re referring to Rytlock slicing open the vine walls like they were paper, that’s entirely different from wading through a field of poison.

Secondly, I actually don’t mind having to wait between story steps, do you know why…time, it takes time to go from place to place, so in essence by using the Mastery system to place an artificial barrier between story steps it enforces an artificial time barrier as well, sort of like making you RP when you hate doing RP…if you look at it from one perspective.

As for the Elite Spec…for all of you that didn’t expect it to take a lot of HP to unlock, you didn’t pay attention very well. It was stated early on that you would need HP to unlock the Elite Spec, and if you had thought about, it would take a lot of it. That’s why some of us were smart enough to amass a small amount of HP on all of our characters before changes prevented us from using ToK, etc. from gaining levels and stockpiling SP/HP. It was known that you would have to EARN your Elite Spec, everyone should have been expecting this from the beginning.

P.S. – you can unlock the complete Elite Spec in Verdant Brink, if you had half the HP to begin with, that only leaves the skins for Auric.

Valid complaints v.s invalid ones

1. Complaints on elite specialization being locked and “…requires too much effort” is a valid complaint, because when you compare it to other specializations, which cost no more than 60, it cost way too much and can be considered unfair and grindy. Anet really need to address this issue as I personally believe if they scale down the cost to 60, most people will be satisfied

~Snip~.

I’m addressing all these complaints based on the core game and I personally believe is as unbiased as possible

I disagree on this point, I was expecting it to be way more than 60 HP points just based on what Anet said numerous times since the announcement of the Xpac back at PaxSouth. Knowing full well that we would have to spend HP points to even unlock the Elite Spec I began saving/building up SP/HP points on almost all of my characters so that they would average between 190 – 210 HP at launch of HoT. I know people think that 400 HP is a lot, but that is to unlock the entire Elite Spec including skins, it does however take more than 200 to unlock all of the skills/traits…the middle ground would be to leave the cost of the weapon usage, skills and traits as is, but eliminate the HP us in unlocking the weapon/armor skins, IMO.

This is unplayable as solo.

Those that are complaining about group content realize that you don’t actually have to group up to do the content…it only means that there should be a group to do the content. I almost never join formal groups, I just run around the map finding events and do them, if others are there, fine…if not, that’s fine too. You can solo most of the map, it will just take you longer than normal…and HP points are split 50/50 between events and channeling, so it’s an even amount between solo and group.

It’s definitely no longer the casual friendly MMO it once was, a complete 180 in philosophy.

That depends on what your definition of a casual player is…which is the biggest issue, but this is probably the best definition that people should use(not the dictionary definition): a casual player is someone that doesn’t care how long it takes them to complete or do any one specific task in a game and they can do that task at any time of the day or night to suit their schedule(all of which you can do in HoT, even solo)…of course that’s just my opinion, but I’m sticking with it.

As for the remainder of the complaints, look at the achievement panel for HoT(not the story one, the general one), then tell me you have to repeat events over and over ad nauseam to get the different levels in each Mastery Track…you can conceivably complete events in all 3 zones to do just that, not just the first zone, and not have to repeat the same ones dozens of times.

Really? People just need to toughen up

The Masteries can wait. It’s actually fun to progress into the Masteries imo. It’s just really frustrating that I can’t do it as a reaper.

Your fun can wait til you learn to play. You only need the first level of the Masteries (usually just gliding and mushroom) to start doing lots of contents already. Just like you can’t do Arah with a level 1 char.

Technically incorrect, I know of at least one person that completed Arah on a lvl 2 character(they tried to do it on a lvl 1, but gained a lvl just from being run through all the maps). That being said, it really helps to speed things up if you use Exp boosters, as much as people may not like to use them, they do serve a purpose in this game.

I knew it would require a lot of HP to add the Elite Spec, and therefore I tried to stockpile as many HP as possible on all of my characters. Most have anywhere between 190 and 210 to start out with, which is enough to unlock the weapon, skills, minor traits and about some of the major traits…I did this by using up almost all of my ToK before the conversion to Spirit Shards. Anyways, everyone plays differently, some like and have to ability to spend hours in front of the computer(even those that work full time jobs), some don’t, just play at your own pace…it’ll be there tomorrow, and the day after that, etc., etc.. I have a saying…fun is what you make of it, anything can be fun if you deem it so.

To all of those that seem to be floored by this announcement…you just proved that the human race does not pay attention very well. I’ve known for a long time it would take HP to unlock the Elite Spec and you wouldn’t be able to get all of it right off the bat. What I refuse to do though is tell you where the information is at, find it for yourself…the only thing we didn’t know what the total number of HP needed, but I knew my ~200 existing on several character wasn’t going to be enough to unlock the entire Elite Spec!

I expect the HoT content to be downloaded to your client via the stream, depending on how you have the streaming client set…you should be ready to go at 12:01 am PDT…Thursday is Friday at work for me, so home, eat, sleep and up at midnight ready to go all day Friday into Saturday…or at least until I crash at the computer.

I’m going to kitten everyone off here, all of that assumed you would be able to unlock the Elite Spec on day one only have yourselves to blame. Just because it’s a feature of the HoT expansion doesn’t necessarily mean you get to use the entire thing on day 1, you can unlock it on day 1, but to max it out would require playing the content some(I expected that). I also certainly didn’t expect the BWE numbers to be the same as live numbers, those where adjusted to allow people to test the Elite specs. I have no problem getting the necessary HP beyond the ones I’ve already accumulated on all my characters from HoT…each play through of the maps is different with a different character, even if the map itself is the same.

12:01AM???? Why in the world are they starting it at midnight for them? Why not midday so they aren’t at work all day, then up all night squishing bugs, then up all day at work again.

Some people must <3 pain.

You know that streaming thing GW2 has, well guess what, this will really put it to the test. That’s correct, if HoT goes live at 12:01 a.m. PDT, that would mean a lot of the content will already have been streamed to those that pre-purchased and they’ll be able to jump right in and play….which means when I get home from work at 2 p.m. on the 22nd, I’m prepared to go to sleep at 7 p.m. and wake up at midnight and start playing HoT.

Raids & Story

Zaklex.6308

If the raids are supposed to be Living Story Season 3 and move the story forward like Season 2 does, it would be a bummer to put that behind a immense skill cap. After all, some people play the game for the story, and may not even have the physical ability for the split-second reflexes needed for raids.
One way to solve this problem is to enable, a set time after the raid is launched (maybe after world-first?) something akin to SAB’s infantile mode – mobs have much less HP, there are no enrage timers, but the only reward is the story. This way, people won’t feel left out of the story, which for me is a very important part of enjoying the game.

I’m going to play devils advocate and state unequivocally that I would be fine with some bridge story between the end of HoT and the next big threat being included in the raids as minor stories(I believe that is the point of some of based on the TwitchCon broadcast) as it’s not integral but provides a deeper understanding of the coming threat, what ever that may be…of course this is just opinion and not based on fact(nor do I expect do being doing the raids, though that has yet to be determined, at least one of my guilds won’t be, not sure about the other). Anyways, it’s ArenaNet’s take on a raiding with a story…whether everyone has to be able to access it or not is irrelevant, everyone can access it, it just requires a little dedication, trial and error, and eventually there’ll be guides that will literally walk you through it.

This is conceptually brilliant and goes to show that Leah Hoyer can have a positive affect on the writing and the story(not that I thought she wouldn’t). It’s downright semi-chilling hearing Mordremoth ‘talk’ to your Sylvari character, and I can’t wait until I play my Sylvari through HoT(after my human character of course).

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

There isn’t a single thing in this game that I’ve had to actually interact(as in talk in party/team chat) with other players to perform(including Fractals[I do join groups to do Fractals, but they rarely hear/read anything from me…I’m more like just another body to fill a spot). I run around solo everywhere, and just stop and join an event without talking to anyone…maybe every once in a while spouting some random comment or answering a question…and leave just as quietly as I arrived. Dry Top, SW and HoT all look to be the same…in SW you can easily solo escort the Pack Bulls, kill the bandits in Picaroon Scratch, capture any of the 4 bases and complete the first level defense…all without talking or interacting with another player…you can even kill the Veterans solo…plenty of things for introverts to do. Group events don’t dictate grouping up with others, you just have to be in the same area, but can still be completely invisible to everyone else.

Mastery leveling and content

People have already found that for levels 4 and 5 of Gliding you need 1 million+ and 4 million+ Mastery experience to unlock the level, so it’s not going to be that fast as I presume each Mastery will work the same. In other words, each level requires considerably more Mastery experience than the previous one.

you guys really are blowing this out of proportion, it’s just a duel, every other game has it.

Your last 5 words are all the reason NOT to have it in GW2, because every other game has it…if you like open world dueling so much, go play those other games. It has no place in GW2, it doesn’t fit the premise of this game nor does it fall into how A.net wants their community to behave…and there have been numerous studies that show open world dueling increases the hostility level and conflict between players/community members. As for your contention that sPvP is to intimidating to new players…that was the whole purpose behind PvP101 on Points of Interest(which I’m sure will return after HoT launches)…and HotM vs the bots isn’t intimidating at all…or people can read the forums, numerous websites, watch YouTube video’s…there’s countless ways to learn PvP…even those custom arenas…or joining a Guild that will teach new players how to PvP.

One thing I noticed is I’m not getting any Event bonus at the end when is says Successful, if I’m reading the working correctly, not only should you get the ‘x’ amount of blooms for completing the event, but then there should be a bonus reward on top of that for a Successful completion of the entire chain(when the event ends in a zone, there are 3 completion medals to click through).

But I think since the focus of content tend to fall on the reward rather than how you complete it, Anet must focus on making the act of getting to the reward non-exploitable. So players will moan if you make their content take longer to accomplish or require more clearage or enforce more task be completed to get the best reward. I hope they take their attitude toward content rewards away from speed clearing and more toward being rewarded for engaging all the content of a particular instanced situation (talking raids not current dungeons).

There’s one thing you may not be aware of; at one time, A.Net considered making the trash mobs in the current dungeons so that you could NOT skip them, but that was shot down because they didn’t want to negate the play style of those that like to do speed clears(they learned that there was a set of players that enjoy that from GW1). Hence, when dungeons were finalized, it wasn’t necessary to kill every single mob in them, even though some of us would have preferred they do that…but they wanted to make the game accessible to all. Personally, I think people would have found a way to speed clear dungeons even with having to kill everything within the dungeon.

Why excited for Gliding but not UnderWater?

Zaklex.6308

Underwater combat and exploration are fine as concepts and dare I say it, in gw2, but the problem is that they haven’t yet created challenging and interesting content involving the underwater zones. A future expansion focusing on underwater zones has the potential to further push the mmo genre. It’s risky but I believe there is room for innovation and GW2 is capable of making that push.

No thanks.

I’d rather anet focus on land…. underwater has no push into MMO genre lol…

That would be suicide if anet focused an xpansion on underwater crap.

Theres plenty of innovation they can do on land where its much better to create content…. underwater is completely irrelevant and a waste of resources, which is why anet has pretty much all but abandoned underwater crap

Then you might as well quit now, because there will be no choice but to go underwater when it’s time to fight the Deep Sea Dragon…and it does have it’s place in MMO’s, if people knew how to handle the spatial 3D realm. It’s not that hard, I’ve seen people complain they can’t judge distance, location, etc.,…well then, I imagine those same people can’t drive very well either, since they can’t judge distance, location or any other spatial places around them. It’s simple, pick a landmark, and use that as your measuring stick…it works on land, air and underwater…but you need to unwrap your mind from around a 2D space and think in 3D, which is quite simple.

Its a minor inconvenience. Nothing more.

My broken Razer Naga disagrees.

But that may be from the thousands of other single action clicks I’ve had to do in game as well. A “consume all” button would be a huge quality of life improvement.

Or it could be that you bought a razer naga, they are notorious for being cheaply made.

I’m sure that’s all it is.

No chance at all that it’s the thousands upon thousands of clicks I’ve done opening bags in this game had anything to do with it.

I bet if I just left that mouse on my desk it would have broke anyway. Geeze what was I thinking.

It probably would have, and I’ve had my mouse for over 3 years, zero problems(it’s a standard Alienware mouse) and I’ve clicked with that thing over several 100 thousand times, if not at least a million(not hard to do when you do everything but type by mouseclick). I think those that blame this game for breaking their mice have just not bought the right kind of mouse, it’s that simple…the simpler the mouse, the less chance of it breaking.

As for the ToK, I don’t even bother to save mine anymore, I just use them and get another Spirit Shard that I have no use for either, but it’s better than the ToK taking up slots in my bank. As for leveling, I do it the old fashioned way, but I don’t do story steps until I’ve outleveled two or 3 chapters, then blow through those all at once.
