@ Arc I have never delt with setting up servers for voice comms I just assumed they were all paid for….and subsequently dont mind either way. I’m just used to teamspeak as most guilds I’ve been in use that now.
btw this continual chat in forums is awesome =P really hope this kicks off into something special =)
@ Arc I definitely understand some people prefer not to be on voice comms etc….I do think voice comms are quite important. On that note I would also be happy to donate towards a teamspeak unless we could get ahold of one otherwise =).

@Arc Sure thing honestly atm I have had my fill with PvE and WvW so all I actually want to do is tpvp….I’m quite happy to rep guild and help out with recruitment and hold events etc. Really try help the pvp community grow.

Im on NA and have 2 accounts…I had originally bought the second one for EU but australian ping makes EU just a tad unbearable so xfered back to both NA. @Arc I’d love to be apart of something like this on both my accounts as I can use the secondary one to tpvp with new people and teach them the ropes get some mentoring happening.
And obviously have my main to push competitive tpvp. I actually do have experience in raid leading from WoW days. and Officer / Guild Leader etc too. That said it’ll also be a great opportunity for me to expand my experience in tpvp too as Im only rank 23
Blu is the shoutcaster….fixi is the analyst. thats the way i view it…because he doesnt really shoutcast at all….I dont think a single word he has said has been telling people whats happening….more so analysing what has happened and what could / should be done differently improved, what was done well etc.
Ive been tossing up whether to start a tpvp guild and teamspeak servers etc specifically for tpvp and pvp community in mind….while I do plan to push tpvp competitively….i’d love to have set days to hold events to teach new people including prizes etc…to teach basics….like 4 seconds to deca kitten ometimes > 14 seconds to cap….all the thief infiltrator arrow sweet spots….hold like fastest thief from point a to point b….etc
7th thread of same topic with different title that ive personally encountered…..7th time people have said custom arenas have options to turn off for this…not all spvp servers have spectator mode….tpvp doesnt have spectator mode….and no one wants to see your kittenty build anyway. Hell your leet pro awesome build in spvp that everyone is copying probably sucks in competitive tpvp.

Interesting….I have 2 accounts 1 for EU 1 for NA….I found EU servers far more laggy than NA ones I’m curious how your supporting predominately oceanic players on EU servers….even on speedtest.com etc your looking at ~200ms to texas and ~450 to frankfurt….What made you guys choose EU and how do you handle the lag?

um…isnt there an option for creating a custom server that says " disable trait inspection " or somethign similiar? thus problem is with custom arena owners not anet?
I thought when creating a custom arena there is a tickable option to disable trait inspection etc….the problem isnt with anet…its with people that setup custom arenas….

I’m an Esport lover who played many Esport games and participated in many high lvls tournaments (CS , wc3 , LoL ) and I bought GW2 thinking it would be the same but I clearly was wrong.
In this game since release people can leave Tournaments and not getting punished , while Anet team is aware of this (hopefully) they are not taking action.
This just shows why GW2 won’t be an Esport because they are not taking care of it , Hopefully I’m wrong and today’s patch will fix it but if it stays as it is , it won’t become an Esport thats for sure.
Go back to the first 6-12 months of League of Legends….same kitten different game. If in a years time this game is still not looking promising for esports then you may comment. For now quit if you see fit and come back whenever you want to try it.
Also what if all shouts broke stuns, removed a condition and applied regeneration and vigor, and shieldstance/endurepain prevented condition damage, and mending removed all conditions, and dodging turned you into optimus prime

You seem to have missed my point…it was a dig against ele’s not a dig at warrior being able to do it too….
Theres 2 areas I personally define for improving yourself….macro play and micro play.
I define macro play as things like map awareness learning the in and outs of each map what professions can get where, where are the thief infiltrator hot spots etc, spawn timers on secondary objectives, knowledge of enemy teams position and learning when to help team fight…when to pressure their nodes when to only decap and then return to team fight etc….
IMO thats a big one the decapping part. Takes 4 seconds to decap total, 14 seconds to cap total. Often you’ll find it more beneficial to quickly decap a point to return to the team fight to clean up crew etc.
Micro play I refer to as the intricacies of professions, combat and neutral mobs etc. Learn what skills each professions has learn when to dodge when to use your blinds dazes, kiting blocks practise reading their moves predicting etc the rough ranges of their skills to stand and position yourself accordingly. Similarly with neutral mobs like svanir….they have a predictable skillset, you can practise on them in the heart of the mists so learn their moves and plan a specific way to 1v1 them. =)

Now they just need to add more than 1 game-mode to solidify the deal for me, this is definitely on the right track.
But going from GW1 where we had GvG (important!), TDM, Flag stands, Node Control, Kill Count, Relic Runs, Ghostly heroes and a massive variety of maps to play on…to a handful of maps and a single game-mode….
I’ll just say variety is the spice of life :p
I respectfully disagree…while i do want other modes eventually for now stick with whatever will be your competitive play….for example league of legends main ma kitten ummoners rift thats the esport map….thats what most people play on….in that regard stick with conquest mode…push the features to help that then later down the track add that variety for non competitive fun play ( not that competitive can’t be fun )

i know rank 20’s that i have played with that are seemingly far better and derserve their higher hidden mmr than some 40-50 rank players.
LoL has afkers….its also the biggest esport atm….is it kittenty? yes….can things be done? probably….will they be done? probably in time yea…as for right now? take solice in knowing they get a loss even if they leave….also…if you see good players while solo q’ing…hit em up want to duo / premade together? etc
2nd account solves all tpvp confusion problems….or just flat out realise leaderboards are completely meaningless at the moment and when the split is made for solo and team they WILL have to reset ratings mmr etc.
I am positive anet announced that gems would be a reward for winning tournaments months ago in a video they released. Can we get a response on what happened to this?

Im positive it took LoL just shy of 2 years to break into anything resembling an esports scene…oh wait…..nah thats correct! who woulda thunk it!.
its more so furbs….that they expect gw2 to be an esport straight out of launch….while i am frustrated with the pace of pvp updates and lack of hard hitting changes to shake up meta and ignorance of public test servers because players > devs for testing.
Look at LoL the biggest by far esport game in the world atm….it took 2 years before it took off in the esport scene. There no reason 1 year from now….that gw2 competitive pvp scene wouldnt be thriving.
As time has gone on im glad they are sticking with one competitive mode for pvp….I thought the same as you did….but to me, I liken it to League of Legends….they started with summoners rift…that to this day is their biggest esport scene of their game and any other game in the world….their esports didnt kick off at any level until 2 years into the game roughly…
With all that in mind I can see their decision for conquest mode. Victory condition not based on player skill or build is important. Now what I refer to this is abstract but ultimately no matter what you build or how good you are at it. You win via controlling positions and gaining points…no 2 teams have this awkward stand off and lack of engagement. ( think arenas from wow and how they sucked to watch. ) Conquest mode forces things to move along.
What they DO need is to shake up the " meta ". And for the love of god I hope they eventually realise that public test servers would do them a world of good. Players are far better testers than developers.
Your perspective insight section further enforced my opinion that downed state should be at least removed from pvp…thanks man I hope your post turns some heads and allows for some discussion, compromise and change. =)
your forgetting that the one guy alive can also use stability to down that one guy downed to res his 4 downed teammates…the 4 downed people also have depending on class cc etc of their own….its not going to work.
downed state to me, ruins the prospects of teamdeath match. Heres my example.
Red team vs Blue team
5v5
Red team downs 4 of blue whilst blue team only downs 1 of red. But if blue manages to finish off that 1 red dude they all rally. The whole rally and downed state thing kills PvP IMO. PvE I think its a nice unique system that works well with the idea of no tanks healers or dps per sei. But PvP ….nope chuck testa.
I think I have a solid idea….Is there a way the community can organise say 5 different custom server maps….each cycling through the tpvp maps….and each custom server is representative of a league like LoL…aka bronze silver gold plat and diamond.
And you can only go up once you have promo’d etc. I dont even know if this is doable…just trying to think of pw restrictions….how joining servers would even work…..now that i think about it i dont think that’d work like at all….you’d need like…100 servers for each bronze silver etc…..kitten…..god kitten
LoL took 2 years to kick off….I’m not worried I think gw2 in about another 9 months or so will be well and truly on its way to picking up its numbers and becoming competitive to warrant esport status….so check back in a year.
spectator mode not tested….beta mode custom arenas….there is now without a shadow of a doubt in my mind, yes this is just my opinion, the spvp development team is literally 4 people tops if that. It also goes to prove anet….YOU NEED NEED NEED! public beta test servers. push your builds and features and let us test it for you…takes the load off and quite frankly players do a better job of testing than developers. thats why every company does it.

They would have to add an entire new system because you won’t be able to salvage those things an “infinite” amount of times to get as many dust/orbs/crystals/etc that you want, they would have to rework their entire mystic forge recipes and add new collectibles, which isn’t going to happen.

Experience: Rank 19 played about ~120 games of tpvp so far. Definitely still learning but pretty solid understanding.
Other (Anything else that you would like to add): I work 12 hour shifts on 2 days 2 nights 4 days off….I also live in australia so ideally would love an aussie team but on my 4 days off I get up roughly 6-7pm West Coast US. And generally on all day.

hotjoin should only be 5v5 same as tournament pvp….its silly to think they’d change the dynamic that much. I suppose from now there isnt too much to worry about because they have the option for 5v5 as well as 8v8 but thats like saying oh its okay non ranked summoners rift from LoL can be 8v8. That’d be nuts….8 people split over 3 nodes is stupid….if your going to do 8v8 there should be 5 nodes or something. All just IMO of course.
@Apolo … What makes you think its going to go from 2-3 min wait to half hour wait? Since leaderboards have come out and specifically percentile calculation the player base now knows theres about 22,000-25,000 tpvp’ers in NA and 37,000-39,000 in EU.
When those queues are split. You will see people spending more time in tpvp. Because those in a team won’t feel punished for doing some solo q while team logs on later on etc. You will see hotjoiners feel less fear of tpvp and will most likely start or play more.
The population will grow. Even if it didnt we are talking about a instant-1 min queue in peak times going to about 3 min wait in peak times. And 2 minute wait to about 5 minute wait outside of peak times. Not 45 minutes. It sounds like you have a grudge and a lot of frustrations against gw2’s pvp. Quit, research again in 6 months time. There is no penalty for leaving gw2. No sub fee means no commitment to come back.

^ and they NEED to change this if they want to continue making money. Hire more people to push features more to draw in more crowd….invest to gain profit.
My guess is that they have 2-3 pvp developers….which is pathetically depressing…anywhoo, I get the feeling they’ll focus on one thing and if other features or fixes crop up because of such a small team they want to finish that one thing before patch….think of it this way.
3 guys patch each month can only really focus on 1 or 2 things per patch…if they need to stop to fix an emergency then that screws up their entire end of month patch etc….Which for the record is the worst company decision of ever heard of but I honestly think thats whats happening.
Lots of matches play solid and in front all the way til the last say 30 seconds and lose…like 12 matches or so same deal….giving suggestions for players to go where….engi you decap mine thief snipe their svanir like super quick team chat organising im trying to inspire into these people and lots of losses still….
Alas now i’d like to say kitten a lot….im not actually swearing i just want to vent by kittening the mc kitten friggin kitten kitty kat nap munchkin wharrrgggarrbllle….gah….so frustrating.
@ J Shairp….can we get a straight answer thats not PR coated ums and ahs as to why these features are taking so long to implement….Its perfectly acceptable and quite frankly encourage to copy some of other games systems….eg league of legends solo duo queue and 5v5 teams…..no tpvp til at least rank 20 etc.
What do we as players have to do to get more development pumped into pvp….some of these features can so easily be implemented I personally can’t comprehend. Help us to help you.
Heres my take on it….i understand why they only have conquest…its like LoL the biggest draw and competitive mode is 5v5 summoners rift…I’m fine with that…but they need to add the features that really drive this conquest mode to new heights…
IMO
- no tpvp til rank 20+
- leaderboards in game
- spectator mode
- ELO / MMR rating visible to players etc.
Things of this nature would boost the conquest mode to be more ideal.
My frustration is with rank 1-8 ’s coming in and saying first time here whats going on what this what that…etc etc….having no clue about maps secondary objectives etc etc…I understand everyone starts somewhere…we all did. I get that.
But why doesnt anet implement some system similar to LoL where say you can’t do ranked aka tpvp until your at least rank 20 or something …. it’d smooth the transition between spvp and tpvp 10 fold….because at this point I feel forced to find a premade each time I play this game now.
