We dont have a power creep at all….they have explicitly stated a number of times that ascended level tier was always intended to be in the game. Ideally they should have released full ascended gear on launch and have admitted their fault regarding this. For now what we will see is the addition of acsended weapons tommorrow and then ascended armor later on in the year….and then thats it….no more stats will be gained through new gear types…they have adamantly said this about 1000000 times now.

3) Final thoughts – Theres a lot to accomplish here and if indeed 17,000 is the number of players we currently have participating in Solo Q its understandable why a company wouldn’t invest much in that game mode. But you have to look past that and trust that the combat system and potential of this game is ridiculous. Please have faith in your own product and tackle 1 step at a time.

First and foremost, balance and pace of the game, and reward system for PvP including overlapping for PvE etc. These 2 should be your top priority from here on out until you get them done! Amidst that be vocal with both community and your higher up devs. @jonpeters and crew Your community while having some volatile members too…will rally behind you if you can push past the small playerbase numbers and how that warrants less attention that other areas. If you push past that and give us these key features and talk to us, communicate and fight for the amazing PvP this game can have you will grow tremendously!

2) Playerbase and lack thereof – Another post in another thread mentioned some details about 17,000 unique players doing Solo Q. If thats the case I think we can all agree that number is quite low. The playerbase needs to improve before we can consider " esports " or even " competitive PvP " at this point. I believe the issues regarding playerbase are 2 things. First is the overwhelmingness to new PvP’ers. Leave this to the community, through streams and youtube videos etc FOR NOW we, the community can educate newer players. YOUR JOB now, again in my humble opinion, should be PvP rewards and balance.

First off rewards you need to bridge the gap between PvP and PvE. Dailies for example. If you complete a daily you should get mystic coin/s laurel jug of karma as well as PvP stuff….and as such you should be able to complete a mix of PvE and PvP daily achievements to get that daily done….or all PvE or all PvP. So now a PvP’er can gain PvE related items. PvP should also grant silver / gold. PvP should also grant you levels for PvE / World v World. And of course…overhaul the PvP specific reward system. This is a must, you must incentivise PvP’ing. If you are stuck for ideas on how to overhaul the PvP reward structure tell us, be open about it and the community can give ideas.

Second part of this is balance and I feel you already know a lot about what we expect balance to be like, so I want to focus specifically on PACE OF THE GAME. PvP is too fast at the moment….you should look to reduce all damage specifically condition damage. Slow the pace down. We want burst to require a team effort, not a single class spamming off global cooldown abilities like an ele etc. We should be able to see – " Okay we have a team fight here the guardian went in and split the team up with shield 5 oh wow the mesmer has been split apart from his team, the warrior jumps on him with his stuns while the thief bursts him down, Wow great play there. " and that should happen over the course of 5-10 seconds. Methodical in play not this glass cannon thief just backstabbed someone and he died admist spamming aoe.

Hey seeing as every thread keeps getting deleted destroyed the 90% bad posts but also the 10% constructive ones Im starting my own thread in direct response to JonPeters regarding the need to know finer details of what our problems with PvP are…" the devil is in the details " as you put it Jon.

This may not be 100% accurate but as a GW2 veteran in all aspects of the game here is my take.

1) Communication – It appears there is a lack of communication with playerbase and higher up devs like Colin Johansen ( spelling? sorry ) regarding the state of PvP. With the playerbase you are worried if your behind schedule you may get alternative outburst saying " We were promised x you didnt deliver on time /rage ". However I feel that majority of the PvP community would rather know what your working on and you be open with us and then have to wait say 2 weeks to a month if you are behind on a certain feature etc. Than be kept in complete darkness. Yes there will be those mad about you missing a deadline so to speak but communication > darkness.

Regarding communication to higher devs, as PAX showed it appears that the higher up devs such as Colin aren’t aware of the state PvP is in. You need to be vocal and assertive and constantly be going to them explaining current issues, telling them what you are working on and some ideas that the community have thrown out. Now if you have told them but Colin still wanted to say " Nothing exciting is coming for PvP we wanted to make a game thats easy to follow along and we are happy with what our PvP has accomplished " . ( I’m paraphrasing ). Then you need to keep saying to them…well no. Theres some major issues here. What Colin could / should have said to the PvP question. " Great question we definitely understand there are some key issues in PvP at the moment but we are working closely with our PvP team to iron them out, having experienced both feedback from our players and devs over this year we are still proud of the accomplishments we have made so far regarding PvP and plan to keep moving forward to make PvP in this game even greater. "

That statement to me, is still PR loaded and delicate. But it acknowledges our concerns. Now thats assuming they are aware of PvP issues but still chose to make that statement…In my humble opinion that is a problem with those higher up devs making a questionable choice of words…Heres the flip side perhaps the higher up devs don’t even know the real issues with PvP? If thats the case then Jon that falls on the PvP dev team in not telling them. Again goes back to being vocal and assertive. Get all up in their grill!

i feel….uneasy….this is probably the worst reveal ive ever experienced…..im lost for words….their big reveal is revamped old stuff? and they are labelling it as new content reveal? …. i just….wow…

Wheres raids? wheres new pvp modes? wheres gvg? wheres anything that the playerbase ACTUALLY wants….anet please im begging you….dont do your big reveal at PAX as 1 revamped old boss….thats pathetic.

We don’t want no kittening raids, i agree on GvG though.

What do you dislike about the idea of raids? Theres no power creep or gear grinding for stats…meaning every raid made will be relevant no outdated content syndrome like WoW…see illidan and lichking etc.

With no specific holy trinity system, everyone is MORE not completely but MORE self-reliant, as such if a fight is difficult enough that only 10% of the population can do it…it means that the only thing stopping the 90% completing it is player skill and co-ordination….not improved gear stats etc….

Remember raids dont have to be this week long slug fest of 25 hours+ raiding schedule etc….they could simply be a well tailored difficult pve encounter for 10 players that takes approximately 3 hours or so to complete…the rewards? Account bound skins ( like Zenith blade or hellfire / radiant skins ) that look kitten as kitten….prestige > stat gain also through in a title.

Hey guys, do you guys feel from a viewing perspective as well as playing that the speed of PvP at the moment is too fast paced? Despite my frustrations at helseth’s attitude at time he and others over at GW2PvPTV have expressed their concern with the pace of gw2’s PvP.

With that in mind someone else, apparently an ex team legacy player linked this video which if you haven’t seen before i highly recommend watching….I feel it showcases the speed at which PvP should flow very accurately, what do you guys think?

I highly doubt we’ll get a dev response but hopefully, PvP Devs? Whats your take on this? Do you feel the pace is too fast currently? Do you acknowledge that this video is far easier to follow and understand?

Overreaction akittens finest….heres a good way to look at it when you discovered berzerkers greatsword….it cost the ori hilt ori blade and the inscription of bezerker exotic thingy…..you still retain the exotic inscription….so instead of using this recipe to craft exotics as a means to level from 400-500 you use the exact same mats that net you the exact same item as a discovery again giving you more experience towards level 500. Theres literally no change except that you net more experience towards 500….

Yeah, new players will realize even the ones that have stayed for as long as it has survived (almost a year now – that’s an accomplishment in itself), are thinking about (and actually are) leaving.

I’m now at the point where I am thinking about leaving. I’ve spent a lot of money in the gem store, and that was going to continue, but right now with the incompetent server issues and fact that most of the time we can’t even play the game, is getting to me. Who knows, if nothing changes, GW2 might be doing me a service because I would like to get back into reading in real life, rather than getting eye twitches and many sighs from stressing about error codes and server issues all the time.

And I don’t know about others, but I don’t plan on having to get a computer programming degree just to deal with issues that are SO obviously not our fault – I play online games to PLAY, not to learn how to fix error codes.

This is one of very few times in the year of gw2’s release where server stability has been an issue….wouldn’t you instead praise the fact that so many are playing the game? I’d argue quite a number have come back the game is growing not declining…honestly I think it WOULD be better if you left this game….your toxicity is making me sick.

Solo Que - August 6th

The soloQ is cool but… Don’t reset the ladder, just create a new ladder team :

A reset for those who are in the top 200-100 like me without team (which is seen as the top 100 to 1, are teams) will be incorrect.
I get my rank solo or pug and not fixed and driven team (although I intend to join a top Eu). I think that this classification should be the solo ranking. Those who are team will no longer play solo and will gradually from the ladder (at ArenaNet said that those who no longer played down the ladder … Those who will play in that team disappear gradually from the ladder solo).
A new ranking team is required, but not reset the current standings.

With all due respect, in my opinion your way off….A leaderboard reset is required…theres no way to determine who is higher on the current leaderboards from solo q or premades…or set teams? etc

They already stated there will be 2 seperate leaderboards etc…and I expect others as well as myself should have to prove and work towards a rating not get automatically put there because when the leaderboards first game out I shot to the top and never went down again…see my point?

Also your arguement about those being in a team won’t solo queue….is so far from the truth its painful…I promise you some of the most active solo q’ers will be “pro’s” that are also in teams etc…To keep their skills sharpended and try new builds etc etc.

This update is doing nothing but great things for gw2 pvp….still plenty to go but solid progress!

Am I the only one that Kinda doesnt want more F(2-4) abilities. The only one I might be curious about is if they add F1 offensive F2 Defensive F3 Utility Burst skills etc. But Quite frankly … I’m more than happy to just sit on the one….stop adding more kitten….and fix and fine tune the terrible crap we are already dealing with. Stomp is unique that it is our…only?…blowout ability….therefore I would like that to stay but add seismic leap as another utility skill ( remember they did talk about new skills and traits coming etc ). Also 600 range is quite meh I’m hoping for 900. 1200 would be stupid though.

@Silver Keep in mind you still use other abilities to negate damage…you simply HAVE to as your running so glass. So yes definitely use Whirlwind Attack and Rush defensively…I personally use Axe Shield with Greatsword, as the shield block and leap finisher from shield bash is quite nice.

I was simply pointing out that in a perfect world with no threat of taking damage, I have found that rotation to be most optimal =)

My take on your questions and others may disagree.

1) If you can’t melee a boss I find longbow most ideal…the utility of of providing might stacking via arcing arrow within combustive shot aoe. ( LB ‘3’ within LM ‘Burst’ )

Combustive shot ( LM ‘burst’ ) has a tick called ignite ( I’m pretty sure its called ignite ), that scales off power not condition a its not burning per sei.

Smoldering Arrow provides a blind always helpful.

All abilities can be cast while moving, generally if your required to go range more often than not you are still required to be mobile, the rifle can be quite mobile for the most part but the ‘burst’ rifle skill requires LoS and you must be stationary which can backfire.

2) By the sounds of it your going strictly dungeons PvE, no WvW etc. With that in mind the “50k 100blade lulwhut zerker” warrior is yea completely zerker gear everywhere with rubys out the kitten . BUT! … don’t let people tell convince you thats the way it must be done, because I do wvw I run a 20/20/0/0/30 build with melandru runes that still does beast dps while allowing some major trait swaps and serves as my wvw spec.

3) If you wish to continue down the zerker path then yea your headed fine. If I recall sigils outweigh ruby in weapons ( I think =S ) but ruby orbs in place of runes if fine. Not 100% on that anymore but yea. Once you round out the rest of your trinkets you’ll be in a solid place.

Last thing I want to point out is the optimal dps rotation from my testing and talking with others is.

  • Greatsword (2) – Hundred blades
  • Swap to Axe/Whatever
  • Axe Auto Attack Chain to completion
  • Axe (2) – Whirling Axe
  • Axe Auto Attack to completion again.
  • Swap back to Greatsword
  • Repeat from top.

I still don’t get why people keep saying warriors cant sustain. I’ve been playing a successful shout heal bunker build and it takes like 10 guys to drop me

warriors sustain is bad in spvp and tpvp and your build is probably utter garbage in the heart of the mist

wvwvw balance is completely different because of stat allocation and overpowered food buffs

I’ve said many times on various different threads how much I despise that lame esport wannabe that is spvp. I’m speaking purely of wvw. I’m aware that things are way different in spvp. Warriors and thieves suck there, but are gods in wvw. Rangers and eles were powerful in spvp, but are now utter garbage in wvw. Necros, guardians, engineers, and mesmers seem to do fine in both oddly enough. I mainly hate spvp because I like using odd stat combinations in builds no one else uses. I’m very limited in what I can do in spvp. Don’t have as much creative freedom there.

In wvw protection still gives 33% damage reduction an equivalent of ~2700 armor…..the difference between our warriors " highest base armor and heavy armor " ~4% damage reduction at ~280-320 armor gain.

I promise you, the base armor and health we get is sweet kitten all. WvW we do good in groups yes…100% agree wvw we are solid….solo roaming average at best….small group and zergs if we build and trait right….very very solid….

Regardless tell me how highest base armor etc competes with 2700 armor from protection….please do note warriors have NO ACCESS TO PROTECTION AT ALL!….The only way we EVER see protection is 20 points into a pathetic excuse of a traitline called tactics picking up quickened warhorn abilities that converts boons…..and vunerability converts into protection….they dont put vunerability we dont get protection.

The point is glass cannon or not every other class has sustain tied into their profession unique mechanic…regardless of gear or trait choices….ele water form engi heal kit guardian virtue etc etc etc. Warriors HAVE to trait and gear to get some form of sustain.

@ Turbo Whale, I understand you seem so sure of yourself and on paper it does seem to make sense … but I promise you having higher base health and armor really doesnt account for much at all…don’t you think its ironic that warriors are struggling in PvP while classes that have horrible base stats but boons to compliment are constantly in a far better situation than warriors?

Heavy Armor equals about 250 toughness. (3.63% Damage Reduction.)

Protection = 2750 Toughness. (33% Damage Reduction.)

What is better?

This x1000000 people dont understand how little extra armor health do as baseline etc….2 classes that have always been in meta from launch….guardian and ele both with terribly low health pools….and protect as daecollo mentions here….yea enough said.

With all due respect to players, how did yas not see this coming and why are you surprised? Every other competition of any sort ever has had these exact rules for the same reasons….companies having policies regarding laws about prizes prize pools minors participating in large prize pool events accomodation hotels also have their own rules regarding guests underage etc etc regions having certain laws in countries regarding competitions minors etc flights being booked for minors need parental provision? who can act as a guardian for the kid? rules regulations regarding that…theres a plethora of reasons why and I’m completely not surprised at all its all industry standards.

With all due respect to some of the people posting their outrage I have spoken and know yas a fair bit and as such happen to know your involvement in watching etc other games like League of Legends who also employ these exact rules regarding competitions, I’m just a little surprised that you don’t understand why and didn’t expect this to happen. /shrug….prime example is kitten whats his name….the eu kid whos beast adc but can’t play cause 17 blonde hair streams a lot….ah someone will know who im talking about =P

well Im curious whether the engine would support this idea strictly from a only when gaining adrenaline from striking and not from things like signet of fury etc. And honestly….I think the sustain granted isnt going to be that big of a deal in PvE because any mechanic a big bad boss does to you will still kitten your kitten up. Your not magically going to be solo’ing champions and beast moding fractals because of some extra heals you have….all IMO of course

Watch it be a 30 point trait in tactics and compulsory for any warrior who wants to remotely contribute to a match.

It WOULD be pretty hilarious to have every warrior forced to go 20 into defense for cleansing ire and 30 into tactics for this, admit it.

Minor traits so it’d be 25 =P but I dont know ele’s now aren’t mandatory to go 30 into water anymore I think it’d be a similar idea…there is certainly a way to promote a nice number % between baseline and trait boostage.

I like it, but not the losing adrenaline if you dont hit. That will KILL warriors. Blind is already out of control.

Having the loss of adrenaline though would raise the skill ceiling having to decide whether you want to lose those passive sitting on adrenaline skills like 15% crit chance by sitting on adrenaline things like that, as well as FINALLY MAKE CLEANSING IRE WORK THEREFORE BLIND LOSES OPNESS sorry for caps but god friggin dammit perfect fix for cleansing ire is perfect.

Me and shin aka the OP are chatting about this on raidcall as we speak about this idea…some flaws I brought up to him were the idea that it promotes more bursty builds having more sustain aka new brawn is burst cd reduction and furious in arms tree granting addition adrenaline gain per strike etc but honestly the more we talked about it, it shouldnt be that big of a deal as from range your not being focussed too much anyway and it would provide that melee sustain we need in such a heavy aoe condi meta. We talked about the idea of glass cannon 30 fire 30 air ele’s do still have water but doesnt do much but the 30 water builds obviously gives that water attunement more prevalence….so hear is my idea….make the adrenaline gain heal and bigger burst skill use heal similar to the sustain that water attunement abilities provide if your glass cannon based and change the terrible terrible terrible tactics minors to boost this sustain idea.

This still lends itself to counterplay through cc’ing out which we are definitely still suspectiple. Interesting things to think about.

I wouldn’t be surprised if these same people are the ones that complain about the stagnancy of the other maps and how the meta is there. My suggestions….build templates hells to the yes. That would definitely alleviate some issues with change of maps etc.

The PvP community atm is too small to split it with multiple game modes. We can’t afford to do that yet. For now look to add the infrastructure to warrant newer gw2 players trying pvp and enjoying it as well as the veterans giving them purpose to continue / come back to pvp. Said infrastructure includes but is not limited to further balance changes, solo q split, revamp of PvP rewards, and to be brutally honest…SOME form of overlap for rewards from pvp and pve. As others have mentioned PvP doing absolutely nothing for your PvE based character is a draw back. No legendaries in PvP also drawback, there needs to be some overlap of character progression from PvE WvW and PvP.

Lastly the map has only just come out, don’t act on complaints just yet. I think you’ll find the addition of build templates as well as a week or so to actually learn and test builds in the map people will wisen up etc. Even then I actually see builds that can generally run pretty well change out a major trait or 2 and a change of utilities which CAN be done on the fly and your all set…Its not hard to adapt but people seem to not quite comprehend what changing major traits and utilities can do.

OMFG finally found a thread on this I thought it was bugging out as all hell but that explains it….It is LITERALLY impossible to complete the lessons in the sky achievement where you collect sky crystals because all the automated lightning pull effects etc make me over shoot every….kittening…..time! Anet I’m begging you fix this kitten before I kill somebody

In what ways is conquest not a balanced competitive and fun format? In hotjoin is zerg vs zerg which is strictly a playerbase issue. In tpvp…conquest is a very solid gametype and far more compelling that deathmatch. I feel the secondary objectives needs boosting and there should be options for not just conquest etc. But yea…conquest is very solid….the meta could use changing though I like the idea of bunkers for nodes but not the aoe condi meta of insanity.

Our group of randoms cleared this first attempt, it was also my first attempt and I was able to see and understand and react to the mechanics fine. Kudos for the challenging content first dungeon Ive had fun learning in a long time. Challenging as awesome. I understand content is needed for people that aren’t as sharp or lesser skilled etc but please provide some top notch difficulty content with rewards to reflect such achievements too.

Someone else mentioned the idea of temporary, difficult and story driven. Pick 2.
Temporary and story driven is easy everyone can experience good stuff. Difficult and story driven its permanent content eventually if the lesser skilled people stick with it they will be able to experience said content unless they just dont improve or something. Temporary and difficult lacks any story driven elements look at fractals now that being said I want difficult dungeons other than fractals but fractals is an example of providing difficult content that lesser skilled players can’t complete but because theres no story driven elements they dont miss out except for skins…the way it should be imo

Casual does not mean bad. This is the first time in a while Ive done a dungeon and gone sick bloody pve mechanics awesome. First time and only time Ive done it thus far is 2 warrior 1 guardian and 2 thieves. I didnt know what the to expect but was able to react and solve the mechanics and what had to be done fine.

On that note of casual doesnt equal bad then we are promoting allowing bad players that can’t improve to experience said dungeons not casuals to experience to said dungeons…and promoting a lack of improvement by nerfing dungeons for bad players isn’t good.

Main Hand Axe (3) – " Throw Axe " : Also applies 3?5? seconds of swiftness.

Offhand Axe (5) – " Whirling Axe " removed. Replaced with " Dredge Line "
Throws out a axe on a chain that behaves like engi’s down state 2 grapple hook. Fires at a target but first enemy it hits will get pulled to the warrior and a brief knockdown. Counterplay by smart positioning between you and your bunker etc.

Utility " Stomp " changed to " Leap " Leap 900 yard range and knockdown NOT knockback enemies.

Adrenaline skill for GS " Arcing Slice? " removed. Changed to " Bladestorm " Power based skill that provides stability for the duration, similar to daggerstorm for thieves. Spinning for x time does aoe power cased damage as mentioned similar to daggerstorm for thieves etc.

Edit: " Offhand Axe (4) – “Dual Strike” changed to a 600 yard range average speed moving axes animation similar to the Rexxar dude from dota where he threw out the 2 axes in a frontal cone that looped back to him…hope someone knows what I mean.

In WvW warriors were solid, in sPvP / tPvP they were and appear to still be lacking, the only thing I haven’t tested over the last few hours is a tanky bunker type build as thats not my playstyle. But ultimately I’m holding out for the next few days to a week, the pro’s will deem whether or not we have a place in the meta as they may think of something I have missed or not thought of etc.

With every kittening patch the balance in this game gets worse in my eyes! They just should reset this game to release day! There it was best! And the ranger nerfs if they should be true just show us that Anet is to stupid to understand their own classes!

The game is seeing its best most balanced state since launch….this next patch if those notes are real will be the biggest shake up to happen to pvp since launch too. All moving in the right direction….if you think the game’s balance has been worsening then you profession is getting nerfed or with all due respect…your not that skilled.
