Anyone else realize the problem, that we’re a week away from the finale of this LS chapter, and still don’t even have the slightest clue of Scarlet’s motives?
Sure, we know she’s digging for something. How is that any solid information at all, considering it took months to build up to that?
I thought for sure they were going to lay down some major story elements to be resolved this week in the last patch, but instead it was just a zerg-fest with a nice cutscene.
Also judging by the preview, it looks like next week is going to be another story-lacking zerg-fest.
Anyone else see the potential problem here??
Did you really just say there has been no clue to what is coming? Lets completely ignore the spoilers from reddit. Strictly in-game stuff, there has been TONNES of clues in these last updates, the scarlet instance underneath durmond priory ALONE gave you clues out the kitten . The last bunch of updates they have massively improved their story telling capability.
Still not 100% there yet but cmon dude, you can’t honestly believe that can you?
“All essential services that are unique to Lion’s Arch will be redirected to Vigil Keep for the time being, including Asura gates to other cities, and Fractals of the Mists.” – Massively,
Structured Player vs Player and World vs World can be accessed by clicking their icons on top left corner of the user interface.
What this guy said…also makes sense, logically people will flee LA through gendarren fields and seek shelter at vigil keep, makes sense to me.
Soon™ strawberry …..soon™
I believe Rezz is right. I was there too for 2hours and I did not see it on map chat. I, and I am sure Rezz, would not have minded to join you guys and help you on DH server but we had no idea where you guys all went just as the event started. Now, DH vs BG, what is the difference? we were all there already and you guys were massively present.
Anyway, I still believe wurm should not be so hard so not to trigger such problems/poor ambiance. 20+ players per wurm knowing what to do should be enough to kill him, no need for 50+ elitist players on one map.
Anyway, gratz for your win.
Now come back on the main BG map :P~
With all due respect I sincerely don’t believe 20+ solid players can defeat the wurm if the others don’t know / won’t co-ordinate. Just my opinion, what I have seen is that if 10 people don’t know what to do at amber? The abomination dies prematurely and / or the stacks from the head don’t get fully cleared in time. 10 people on crimson, push the phase 2 too soon. 10 people on cobalt push a burn phase too early.
I’m quite seriously trying to think about it, I just don’t see 20 people at each wurm able to defeat it with the others not knowing what to do. =S
When we guested over to Darkhaven it was our first run for the night, it wasn’t like it was a few runs then #nope now lets all go to Darkhaven. It was okay our guild is forming up now, do we want to do all our attempts on BG or guest.
Also if we were claiming BG kills as our own, we would have said its our 2nd kill because we also were on BG when it died. But it was our first time as a guild thus, our first kill. And it was announced we’ll be guesting then announced in TS from Trad leaking it, then in gchat….then in TS again, then in map chat.
Again I’d like to point out it was our first run of the night in which we decided to guest. We didn’t keep people waiting at all, because it was our first run of the night. If you are suggesting that because we use the BG TS that we took numbers from BG main because they followed us, yea I can maybe see your point but it was there choice to follow, nothing is stopping people organising themselves on BG main either.
Sorry you feel that way but I don’t see why its a bad thing. Apologies.
(edited by Zanthrax.6538)
wouldn’t it be old old lions arch and old lions arch then the ruins of lions arch. Cause like…theres already old lions arch aka in the water. But then if scarlet ruins current lions arch that’d be the new old lions arch….and then whatever remains would be the new current lions arch……..lions arch…..my head hurts.
I do feel that Teamspeak shouldn’t be required for people to experience their type of content, but what I would argue is the Wurm is definitely not designed for people that aren’t willing to adapt and critique themselves and their builds and put serious effort including downloading teamspeak even just to listen not talk.
I sincerely do stick by the notion that this is hardcore content for hardcore players. You’ll more than likely find once we get the boss on farm, we can and will generally help others get their achievements and the likes.
@Ronah interestingly enough once we got it we said bugger it, we’ll deal with achievements later we finally got it gj everyone. Also there were many doing wurms they no longer needed to change according to numbers and most experience including commanders who would command the same wurm etc.
Sorry you dislike " elitist " content. =(
As someone who guested to BG and severely helped our efforts over the last week, I know completely that everyone there and in turn posting on this thread means it as no sense of ownership to the BG server directly. Blackgate got NA first but we all know who we were that were there. We followed Hiba’s advice and we believed!
/heroic pose looking off into the distance.
Finally RAWR! Gj BG crew….especially huge thanks to commanders you guys know who you are!
BG finally got it….well done boys screenies inc
mmm I must admit someone brought up the idea that the moment instances for this content is added casual players and hardcore players ina guild etc would never overlap again….
Made me appreciate that open world is definitely more fun but theres still a glaring issue of overflows and having to deal with players that don’t care to improve but you have to put up with them
" The entire game was never for you ", so why did arenanet say this content requires highly co-ordinated players and encourages people to critique their builds etc, when clearly casual players don’t do that.
Because ever since Ascended, Anet has been continually caving to the hardcores and the challenge seekers. And it’s created a muddled game.
Perhaps there IS room for both casual easy content and hard content in a game.
I don’t disagree. But then, as I’ve said: Hard content should be instanced. It can’t be placed in the Overworld. It doesn’t work, there.
But if they’re just going to keep putting the hard content in the overworld, and not actually section if off, if they’re going to keep making the hard content the Living Story, and not separate properly, like they mostly did with the Queen’s Gauntlet, then I’d rather the hard content just not exist at all.
Better that the content not exist than exist in the way it currently does and just exclude and frustrate players.
Also you said " At least when I want an easy game, it doesn’t exclude people from rewards or content " You still experience the content, you will never down it unless you improve but you can experience it while still getting the rewards.
If I don’t down wurm or marionette, how do I still get the rewards specific to them? There’s more to the rewards than just the meta.
The only thing you don’t get? Purely cosmetic skins. How does that not seem fair?
Because the “purely cosmetic skins” are content, they’re the main pull of the game. You know, this was a game based on cosmetics, after all. So I’m being excluded from content.
But of course, you’ll disagree.
I agree about instances, I agree about open world content should be easier, again thats why I made the proposal to compromise with open world easier versions and instanced harder versions of these bosses with varying cosmetic rewards, I have made that suggestion on many threads now.
What I do disagree with now is your cosmetic reasoning. I truly believe that if all content was easy and you just keep plotting your way through it all soaking up the skins no problemo then EVERYONE will have ALL the skins and I PROMISE you will get bored. Cosmetics do nothing in the way of enjoyment of content, I see no problem with differentiating what content you do by what cosmetic items you got.
Look at previous living story updates, it was easy plod along content with skins that EVERYONE was able to get, and they STILL don’t use them, I barely see anyone using cosmetics that have dropped via easy going plod along living story content, see backpacks and shoulder skins etc that plague everyones bank space.
Perhaps 60 seconds to reconnect before being kicked to an overflow would be awesome, if you disconnect you don’t have to cry yourself to sleep. Would there be benefit to having specific number’d overflows like districts in GW1?
Do you think having griefers and people that refuse to improve or learn is the lesser of 2 evils compared to providing instanced content thus splitting the community? Im genuinely curious, cause you do raise a good point but I just feel segregation might be more beneficial. /shrug. I see pro’s and con’s for both sides and honestly it is tricky to manage / balance definitely but I happen to think you’d feel differently if you hadn’t of downed it, and I’d argue that most of the people you got into that instance were people willing to listen and adapt and improve.
For the record my issue isn’t with people guesting or lesser skilled players or casuals at all, my issue is with stubborn people that get backed into a corner and lash out when we are trying to help them. Myself and a number of other commanders have been on blackgate for 6 days now and each and every new wave of people we walk them through it we teach them and give suggestions and analyse previous attempts and say hey great job with this part guys i really like how we did x but i think y could be improved perhaps we could try z…
We do all that but it comes with a mix of these players that will refuse to alter builds, listen or contribute to co-ordinating. We are trying to get numbers and they won’t stack, we ask them to get into teamspeak they won’t. It can be frustrating and the first obvious solution is usually instances. If there were other methods to help that i’d love to explore them. Since you raised your point about the negatives of splitting communities through instances I tend to see your point on that so good call. But it can certainly be frustrating for hardcore and casual players alike when we teach them and they go wow yea cool and they help out and all is well…then you get those griefers which can’t be controlled by servers because of overflows and guesting.
Hi.
I’m a casual player.
Events like Tequatl are completely inaccessible to a person like me.
Since the living story content seems to be following the same design principles (i.e., events that not even an entire server can hope to beat despite trying multiple times), I was wondering if there’s going to be any content that would appeal to players like me in the future, or whether this is all we have to look forward to?
Thanks.
First off, thanks for being eloquent. Secondly not all living story content is of this calibre, my compromise was make open world easy versions and instanced hard versions with altered COSMETIC rewards to show off etc. But outside of that experiencing this living story content is easy even if you never beat marionette you can still 100% the meta living story achievement, and still experience 100% of the story driven aspects like scarlet’s base and the instance in LA etc.
Then this content is not for you.
This entire game was never for you. It was supposed to be easier and more casual. Not another WoW Raidfest.
Difficult content is sorely needed,
No, it’s not.
Just sit this one out, it’s blatantly obvious this is not for you, so realise this and stop forcing your opinion onto others that play to challenge and improve themselves.
If you want a relaxing experience there’s plenty of other options for you. Like singleplayers.
If you want challenge, there is literally every other mmo out there. There’s even Korean Grinders for you to gnash your teeth at. I shouldn’t be relegated to singleplayer games just because I want something easy.
Furthermore, do challenge seekers sit out the easy content? No, they do it in two hours and then complain that it wasn’t challenging. Why should I have to sit out content while they get to do easy content, complain about it, and then also get hard content that excludes people?
You have a lot of nerve to tell me not to force my opinion on others only to then force your opinion on me.
I’ll say this much on that: At least when I want an easy game, it doesn’t exclude anyone from experiencing the content or the rewards.
" The entire game was never for you ", so why did arenanet say this content requires highly co-ordinated players and encourages people to critique their builds etc, when clearly casual players don’t do that. Perhaps there IS room for both casual easy content and hard content in a game. Also you said " At least when I want an easy game, it doesn’t exclude people from rewards or content " You still experience the content, you will never down it unless you improve but you can experience it while still getting the rewards. See living story meta achievement. Obtainable with dailies. The only thing you don’t get? Purely cosmetic skins. How does that not seem fair?
But back to being constructive, here are the three simple solutions to each of the annoying events in the game:
Marionette:
Instead of requiring all five platforms to succeed, make it best three out of five. If three succeed and two completely wipe, you win, next Warden. There can be some kind of extra buff if you manage to get all five, but it’s not necessary for completing the stage.Done
Tequatl:
Either remove the timer or scale his HP to Shatterer levels. A decent sized group can kill Shatterer in 15 minutes, they should be able to do exactly as well against Teq, so long as they can deal with his other effects. Ideally you could also put four of the six turrets under NPC control, so that poor players could not screw that element up. Players would still need to defend and repair the turrets, but they would fire reliably while up.Done.
Triple Wurms:
Remove the secondary timer when you kill one of them, allowing you to kill each in turn rather than having to try and kill all at once. If you want to have some last minute drama, make it so that as soon as you lop off a head, it burrows, and when you lop off the third head, the other two both spawn at that location, and you have to fight all three heads at once to finish it off. Make sure the event scales properly to the number of players in the zone, if the zone is less than packed, then the tactics and DPS-test involved should be scaled lower to compensate (ie less barrels needed, less bait players needed, less gasses needed, etc.).Done.
It’s also important that if you put content in a level 50 area, that the content not be balanced against a level 80 player with full ascended, but rather against a level 50 player in full greens. Either that or prevent such players from entering the zone until the event is over.
Your Wurm and Tequatl idea’s are terrible in my opinion whats wrong with having some content that has this real sense of challenge to it? Theres always so much excitement surrounding new bosses that are hard to kill world firsts n all that. Hell even the devs were watching in. There is room in this game for difficult challenging content, it has started with tequatl marionette could be easier I’m happy with your suggestion there because its living story content ( yes I’m aware tequatl was too but it was more so just generic excuse to try out new encounter types, at least imo ) but for the permanently in game content of this calibre, nerfing it just ruins it.
What a joke, you should all strive to improve, should olympians stop striving to improve at their sport? Should drug attics stop trying to better themselves as a person?
Quit using examples of the real world for a game that’s about entertainment and nothing else. Stop trying to force people to improve.
Just. Stop.
If I want to become a better person, I will do so in real life, where being a better person matters. All I want from a video game is a relaxing, entertaining ride.
Then go play the relaxing entertaining content? Why should all content a game makes be focused to you? Many people complain god stop making content for X people, they have already stated this content aka the Wurm etc not normal world bosses were designed for very co-ordinated players, wait for the more skilled players to complete it and then we’ll more than happily help you in turn get your achievements etc….see TTS whose entire point of creation was to help EVERYONE get tequatl down.
20 random players should be able to defeat the bosses? lol, no. 20 SKILLED players should be able to beat the bosses….but you shouldn’t be able to faceroll keyboard completely unaware of your own abilities and beat all the content…..not saying don’t make content for them….but I am saying don’t nerf deliberating challenging content because the lesser skilled players are QQ’ing.
The notion of scaling it smaller though would be awesome, but people could grief easier in open world, ergo….instances.
@William Personally, this content is designed for people to be seriously looking at their gear traits and builds and utilities…for that reason instances would be more ideal….what about a compromise….make open world easy versions and instanced hardcore versions of these world bosses?
The amount of people that are sitting behind this " omg ANET is elitist " excuse is hilarious. What a joke, you should all strive to improve, should olympians stop striving to improve at their sport? Should drug attics stop trying to better themselves as a person?
Now consider, do you lose out on ANYTHING if you can’t complete this content? Well no, you can do your meta achievement for living story without having defeated marionette at all, dailies alone can get it done. Now consider, should WvW’ers complain when they make content for sPvP? No, …so why are lesser skilled players complaining when content is being made for more skilled players especially when you still complete meta achievements without having to defeat it at all!
@Josh Foreman I’m hoping ANET can really see the hype excitement and amazing feeling that these kind of difficult encounters can provide, what I’m hoping is you realise that logistically managing 150 in overflows where you can’t get your friends etc is bad design. Reading your prior responses it seems you definitely know of some of the concerns.
What is making you guys so scared of adding encounters like this measured to 8-10 man instances for guilds?
- Too difficult for casuals? – So is the current system of these bosses and they should be. That was why you designed it hard like this correct?
- Players without a guild can’t complete this? – Not true, every other traditional MMO has had guilds lead and help PUGS complete content. PUG’s would form up together outside of instance entrances.
- Requires gear? – There is no gear treadmill, content thats beatable, is strictly based on builds and skill.
Also instances would alleviate this whole 2 hour wait thing, which 1 forces people to stay on that same map to keep their spot, 2 boring as hell and 3 is the same time as other mega world bosses….
um, you didn’t defeat the wurm at all no….wait for phase 2 champ. Its so obvious theres a second phase based around the heads after you decaptitate them….Don’t jump the gun TTS aren’t hero’s just yet.
Dear Arena Net, please lose your fear of exploring instances as an option. Thank You =)
Grouch ignore them….anyone with half a brain was well aware that ANET’s blog post ages ago specifically stated that there will be a break, then final 4 living story arcs then the big balance and feature loaded patch AFTER those 4 living story updates.
2 things…..best story instance ever…..and also the updating living story panel on the top right made it that much better….optional talk to rox thing more of this well done ANET….now just give us instanced difficult content and I will throw all my money at that sexy gem store.
Guilds like TTS can’t do kitten because as always when a new patch hits its extremely hard to get people into overflows, sorry this current system is so bloody annoying. PvE would benefit from competition among guilds for who can kill certain bosses first / who can kill fastest….with this system we need to wait….2 weeks? Before the masses stop caring so we can effectively fill overflows properly?
Bad system is bad….You don’t need to join a raid guild to join instances, theres multiple guilds for a reason.
Does anyone know why ANET don’t want to make these encounters instanced? The logistics of trying to play with your friends and guilds to actually defeat these bosses is getting beyond the joke.
Is it hard to program instances to be spawned? Why can’t you just make it like overflows but owned by whoever started it….hell even similar to GW1 with their districts….please consider changing this because its getting frustrating as all hell….-_-
I’d like
798 Power
569 Precision
-569% damage from sigils.
First off THANK YOU helseth, I sincerely appreciate you having a calm collected discussion on the changes presented. For me, unlocking things is BAD for PvP, don’t use unlocks as your form of progression for PvP please.
Sigils and runes are good changes contrary to what helseth said because theres less confusion to new players, from his reaction I think he might misunderstand how new players really don’t know what stacks what doesnt why etc. This change will eleviate that, BUT he raises and amazing point. You NEED to do blanket nerfs to those sigil combinations that you KNOW are going to really cause problems.
Pindown amazing change thank you ( i play warrior and I’m happy at this. )
Healing signet proposed change is awesome to me. In my eyes, if we get that 30hps nerf it goes from 392 to 362 it brings it in line with healing surge at max level ( I still think thats too much ) but the idea of promoting use for an active especially if its NOT just a larger heal etc is good, promote use of the signet so enemies have a 20 second window with which to punish the warrior. What makes healing signet too strong IMO is our ability to condi cleanse poison. Poison and burst screw up heal signet right now, but we condi cleanse poison and hammer can crowd control efficiently enough to stop damage periodically and let the regen do its thing.
Cleansing Ire needs to move as a trait, what if cleansing ire and merciless hammer were both grandmaster traits in the defense line so you had to choose?
Yea i actually found myself enjoying and understanding what was happening watching 2v2 tournies i was so happy. =P
Okay after watching all sorts of tournies for sPvP I’ve only just watched vods from 2v2 tournies and visually it feels like this has the best casting and competition. I understand this is personal opinion but does anyone else feel like 2v2 was the first time you could really follow what was happening, and there was some sense of excitement because its not this drawn out oh this team just won slowly by attrition holding 2 nodes etc.
What do you guys think is the likely hood of ANET ever implementing infrastructure for arenas like 2v2 and 3v3 etc?
My 2 cents is the matches rarely have good turns arounds if someone secures 2 buffs they slowly get a bigger and bigger lead and eventually win….thats easy to understand because you acn see the caps and score but its boring….i think again I hate refering to this but its the best example, league of legends, even if one team is getting dominated if they win a late game team fight they can turn around and PUNISH the enemy team. In this game winning a team fight yea i guess its nice but they are already 200 points down and the enemy team can just bunker 1 point to win anyway kinda thing.
What I want to see for me personally is a system where late game the losing team in any span of say 20 seconds has a real chance of coming back….heres one thought i had.
What if on forest of niflhel every 5 minutes the announcer says npc buffs are now harder to kill but worth double the points aka 50 points….5 minutes later again NPC buffs now doubled again! making it 100 points….thoughts? The scoring system over the course of the match NEEDS to change….
These people exist everywhere….lets look at reality, most people that act ( not all but a large number ) like that wouldn’t say the same kitten to your face. Its the whole internet syndrome of being anonymous.
You really just gotta accept it and ignore them, I’ve seen plenty of dps guardians that do really well in solo q. I also think the EU community is far far far better than the NA community =(
What Jax is saying is in PvP way back when CoF armour was quite cool to see in PvP obviously over time that armor will become more and more frequent as people get higher rank etc but in one fel swoop you made it so skins in PvP are pretty much across the board now….especially when the update comes where you can wear PvE gear in PvP….so the 3k hours he spent grinding up that CoF gear some lesser skilled/knowledgeable person can come into sPvP wearing the same skin as him.
What I don’t think Jax understands is im fairly sure new skins and rewards will come out where you strictly need to pvp….and for me personally quite frankly I couldn’t care less about the qualms of high level PvP’ers when the population is so low atm. We need more bodies in PvP, the bigger picture, if that means temporarily some players that aren’t as skilled as others just happen to look the same? So be it, prove your skill on the battlefield until new skins become availiable through ladders etc etc.
Hey guys I’m working on a continual sPvP series to help out newer players ease into sPvP etc. First video is up hopefully you guys learn something, feel free to share it with friends and others that are new to PvP!
for tips on stomping shameless plug…

that source is from may 13th last year….way outdated ANET have since said well after that post that there isn’t an expansion planned anytime recently. As for NCSoft I even think a earnings report LATER than may 13th confirmed there was now no expectation for an expansion as of yet.
Its all relative to other players too….so if your 400 and dont play and those from 350-400 lose heaps then naturally they’ll drop and you’ll move up =)
Got curious, opened twitch, saw he plays engi :s, closed twitch
He’s always played engi. He was actually the person that made engi competitive in tpvp. No one else would play it.
I wouldnt go that far….but to be brutally honest yea he pretty much was the pioneer for engineer for spvp way back when #memories =P
So a game that had an amazing game mode good design still took 2 years to get rolling? That further proves my point that we should just take some deep breathes and be patient….if your sick of waiting constantly take a break you can come back at any time! =)
LoL was successful at launch, I played since beta…while they made minor alterations to champion design and many seasons later gold distribution and jungle changes…the game stayed more or so the same. The forums were mostly positive in the first year the game was out as everyone who played it was pleased, thus why it was ALWAYS on a steady rise in popularity, it never trucked and suddenly lost a huge chunk of its pop.
This game however had a huge loss shortly after launch followed by a slow rise, followed by another plummet…only recently with these pve benefitting changes suddenly breathing life back into the population. This is due to the fact generally most people are unhappy with the game mode, they don’t enjoy it they get bored and move on. A game can be unbalanced…every game is unbalanced to some degree (that isn’t a mirror match) its the fun factor that matters…if the game was fun more people would play for no rewards.
Also, to say the game needs to “ripen” has merit…but on the flipside its hard to say that will be the case here.
The rate at which crucial changes to add features that normally In todays market would be part of the game at launch is rather slow due to shared resources as you pointed out. Suggesting that there will be no “boom” to shock interest into the game….instead you get slow add ons that don’t offer enough consideration. Also todays market (especially the mmo one) is extremely competitive, and there are many games moving into gw2 territory that will offer pvp support.
Wildstar has the backbone structure to support many pvp modes and has several forms in development that seem to be testing well.
Everquest next has a huge talented team featuring new technology a simple similar play style to gw2 with a massively more powerful game engine matched with the ability to MAKE YOUR OWN PVP MAPS AND GAME MODES.
GW2 devs are still trying to reprogram things to they can make simple changes like…like allow items to cross pvp/pve or allow for 2 sigils on a 2hnder…..the ready que for spvp isn’t even fixed yet. These should not be difficult fixes, but because the gw2 engine was rushed and not optimized for anything outside their goals for pve, are not able to be done with out recoding…which is timely and costly. Which is why we wait forever for things that would otherwise seem stupidly simple tiny changes.
In short, I admire your optimism but I feel its misplaced. GW2 more than likely will never have the competitive demographic of pvpers. Theres just too many games that are already further along about to launch with features and basic functions gw2 still is months away from even beginning to implement.
I dont see the MMO market as competitive at all….every single other MMO apart from GW2 has crashed significantly in its attempt to draw from WoW and non MMO players. Wildstar is definitely in a solid position but time will tell. From my experience with the game so far I don’t see it succeeding but thats just my opinion
So a game that had an amazing game mode good design still took 2 years to get rolling? That further proves my point that we should just take some deep breathes and be patient….if your sick of waiting constantly take a break you can come back at any time! =)
OO and season 1 as a competition for league starting just prior to year 2
Cool thats your opinion, I take this opportunity to see things like League of Legends and within the first TWO years they added one game type…aka 3v3 treeline….tribunal system….and a number of heros….thats it….and they didnt have PvE or WvW to work with….I’m quite content waiting for a game to ripen myself =)
Its these same people that are required to provide growth for pvp scene. My recommendation? wait til leagues / ladders come out….if you out skill them you most likely won’t be playing with them that much.
To judge the nuances of a win or a loss in sPvP atm is silly. Now is the time to be practising to better yourself mechanically and through overall game knowledge while leaderboards don’t mean anything. Ready for ladders / a year from now when / if the game is really hitting its stride with PvP.
post a reply here when signups are done =)
Updated with necromancer video. I plan to start really kicking off solid weekly videos for sPvP have some ideas jot down now that new years etc is over. =)
So now the flip side? game mode without conquest….do you want 4 hour matches because both teams have each other at a stale mate? Do you want 3v3 arena’s where matches last 45minutes + because of disengages and resets? Conquest FORCES action as you can’t just peel off and run away the enemy will still be ticking points etc….the only thing I see needing changes is bigger emphasis on secondary objectives.
