Ah ok thanks :-D hopefully it’s soon
Hey guys, I was trying to find a release date for GW2 China in Google but all I could see was something about a 2nd beta in September of last year, but no official release date. Anyone know when it’s being released?
Would like to see more players in game :-P
I bought a sclerite shield skin a couple months back for 60g!!! :-( dropped instantly when the announcement of discounted black lion weapon skins happened. I really hope they go back up, this 1 week update has put a big dent in them.
Also I’d like to ask Anet why all the other skins have gone from 1 ticket (originally) to 5, yet sclerite skins only went from 1 ticket to 3 tickets? Are they intentionally trying to make sure sclerite skins are the black sheep in the black lion ticket family? Making it easier to get than others? I don’t understand the logic. Why won’t anet put them up to 5 tickets like all the others? (after the discount disappears of course).
@Chris Whiteside
Welcome back, and I truly hope the concept of bringing back the Signet of Capture is taken on board – on page 47 it was well received by players :-P
The tier things look like they were done in paint or photoshop for starters, and the bit about ‘make like worth living’, I don’t think Anet would make a spelling mistake that bad on something that could be official.
I’m calling this VIP membership thing a fake. Move on peeps, nothing to see here.
Haven’t got mine yet :-/
Edit: Just got mine via mail
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
I keep hearing of players receiving the Mini Mr. Sparkles and the green quaggan backpack, but I haven’t received either, and yes I did spend well over 4k gems between the period you had to spend them in, in order to get said rewards.
Am I missing something?
It’s still technically ‘early’ January as it’s the 9th over where I am, and one would assume early is valid until the 10th of January as then it becomes early-mid January after the 11th really.
Edit: Just received mine now via mail. Thread can be closed

I’m actually talking about different methods of acquisition for different things – quest lines for traits (and some? skills perhaps) and SoC for skills only.
You’re saying… scouts, but for capping skills? That actually sounds like a reasonable compromise to me – there’s a few zones to check but it won’t be overwhelming.
Quest lines for new traits would be something I’d be interested in as well as the Signet of Capture concept for new weapon skills, sounds awesome.
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Signet of Capture seems like a fun way to get skills (for PvE players) but in GW2, where you don’t have millions of skills to go around, you’ll want some loremaster NPC who knows where to find them. Otherwise people have to use wiki – the idea of stumbling across a skill unassisted is still possible but most players simply can’t be bothered, and if going hunting for the skill they want isn’t their idea of fun, then… who am I to argue?
I think for something more trait-oriented – or for sub-classes/secondary classes/masteries if any of these concepts end up being used – the Order-based or personal story options start to shine through. It’s not just one skill; it opens up quite a bit more, so the extra investment makes sense.
Whatever system is used, locking people out of proficiencies based on their order, or restricting them from switching later, is just not a very nice thing to do to people. I’d like to see the different Orders unlock the same proficiencies in different ways. If ANet can spare the time to develop three chains per proficiency – quite an undertaking really – it adds that bit of flavour but doesn’t restrict anyone’s options.
True, I think the acquisition of obtaining Signet of Capture could be by a players’ personal story as well – it would be quite cool. Though I think it’s important to note Signet of Capture should be acquired by both personal story rewards and via using skill points
Love, love, LOVE, the idea of a Signet of Capture in GW2.
I also think there should be more world-based NPC interaction where, if, say, the Shadow Behemoth is attacking, a nearby NPC will say so, and you could also talk to NPC’s like you say, and find out where you can capture X skill, indicated by (or divided into) what profession based skill you’re after.
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Also in regards to factions like Kurzick/Luxon, that was pretty cool in GW1, as you felt like you belonged. To switch things up in GW2, perhaps we could follow one of the 6 Gods instead? It would be pretty cool to earn unique skills and faction points for your God.
@ColinJohanson,
In regards to new weapon skills/unlocks, I think the way it worked in GW1 in terms of obtaining both normal and elite skills using the Signet of Capture was so unique and amazing. It was something I had never seen done before in any other game I had played, whereby you go around the world looking for specific bosses that have the elite that you want, and that boss had a particular glow depending on what profession it was – gold/yellow for warrior, cyan for ritualist, green for necromancer etc. you slayed that boss, and captured its elite when standing near its corpse. I felt like I had truly earnt that skill, and that to me is what it’s all about – true progression.
So something like a Signet of Capture concept where you can purchase, or get via a reward, and go around and collect weapon skills from bosses would be ideal – and would make you feel as though you truly earnt it.
You could even swap in, say, 10-20 skill points for a capture skill (as many have been wanting more ways to use excess skill points, this could be another way to use them up?)
Edit: another idea could be bringing back elite tomes? Just a thought anyway.
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
I absolutely hate SAB, I only like the skins, but since I don’t like the actual content, I couldn’t get the green and yellow skins – wish they were tradeable :-(
I am horrible when it comes to 1 vs. 1 or any sort of skill required in killing another player, and there are soooo many pro PvP’ers that would just wipe the floor with me, so I haven’t bothered with PvP since day 1 of GW2.
I’d rather stay behind in a zerg (or behind a wall or gate) and shoot fireballs and the odd meteor from afar at enemies, than get into a complicated battle that requires multi-tasking and knowing how every skill works and all that. PvP just isn’t for me, never will be either.
Anet could add recipes for all new skimpy armour (including underwear, being completely shirtless like Lord Faren :-P, beachwear etc.) which requires uber loads of leather :-D
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Gender equality please! If you’re going to sexify the women, then do it to the men
+1 to that – would love to have more skimpy armor for all genders.
What I hope to see in 2014:
- Return of Zephyr Sanctum
- Legendary armor (around the end of December 2014 would be appropriate)
- Legendary Trinkets
- Dyeable Weapons
- Exotic/Legendary Dyes with animations/glow/sparkles/special effects
- Able to pick up surrounding lootbags when dead in WvW
- Ascended gear being given stat switch ability
- More ways of obtaining ascended chests (through currencies such as karma, badges of honor, fractal relics, pristine fractal relics, etc. etc.)
- Some sort of living story which will make players a fair bit of money (had too many gold sinks lately with obtaining the materials for ascended weapons, ascended armor, countless epic gemstore items that were pretty much must-have’s, getting crafting to 500, the list goes on…)
- GW1 weapon and armor skins available as rewards in GW2
- More elite skills (and to make it extremely fun, you’d have to do what we had to in GW1 by going out and killing a particular boss that has the elite that you want, and capture the elite skill by standing near its corpse and absorbing/learning the skill)
- A new class (hopefully bringing back the Ritualist from GW1, but I’m not counting my chickens just yet :-/)
- A new race
What I suspect we’ll see in 2014:
- Legendary Trinkets/500 Chef & 500 Jeweller
- Return of a few living stories like Super Adventure Box and hopefully Zephyr Sanctum
Speaking of wanting more armor… I wish anet would bring back GW1 armor as potential rewards for different currencies in GW2, like badges of honor, fractal relics, karma etc.
I’d love to see my ritualist’s armor from GW1 (pic below) in GW2 one day – and yes it took me a very long time in GW1 to obtain the full obsidian/fissure of woe armor, but that’s in the past, and I honestly don’t care how easy/medium/hard it would be to gain in GW2. I just want it so badly :-P
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Always seems as though Anet favours fractals more than WvW. I hear more people getting ascended chests from Fractals than WvW.
And as a matter of fact, my elementalist has now gone 468 WvW ranks without an ascended chest, so either I’m extremely unlucky, or, like milo said, the chances are like getting with a celebrity – fat chance and no chance.
Yeah a heavy class would probably come next. Would be cool if Ritualist came after that one though as a light class. I could imagine it coming from some sort of expansion – perhaps with GW2 China release? That would be epic.
I agree, we need more ways to use bloodstone dust in particular, be it using them in more recipes, or being able to convert it via the mystic toilet to other crafting materials.
Won’t be big unless we get dyeable weapons imo. Should have had it right from day 1, like GW1.
Dyeable weapons and back pieces, and ability to hide chest piece and shoes. :o
Hide all my armor and dye my boxers as a skin tone.
Ha ha that would be cool. I hate pretty much all the tops for the medium class because about 95% of them are coats >_< sometimes I just go around shirtless on my Engineer because I refuse to wear a coat. Wish we could hide them :-(
If I could only choose one update, it would have to be more customisation. By this I mean:
Legendary Dyes with special effects/animations/glow/sparkly bits
Dyeable Weapons
Ascended weapons and armor getting the stat-switching ability
etc. etc.
If that doesn’t count as one, then Dyeable Weapons would be all I want.
Followed by Legendary Dyes if we had a second choice :-P
(edited by Zaoda.1653)

The suggestion here is simple. Give us the option to only allow friends to private message you.
The amount of random players that PM me 1) really ignorant questions or 2) tell me how to play, is getting overwhelming and frustrating, and my block list is getting pretty full (I don’t know if there’s a limit but if there is it will soon be filled to the max).
And before you go ‘just block them’, Why? I shouldn’t have to, I should have the option to not get numerous random private messages from the whole flipping world – and when you think about this private message business … IT ISN’T VERY PRIVATE IF ANYONE CAN PM YOU!!! #irony
And before you say ‘just turn your status to invisible’, well see, there’s another problem… when I do that, and I have, multiple times, I then cannot speak in my guild and talk to my friends because it says ‘you are not in a guild’.
Anet, all I’m asking for is the option to only allow my friends to private message me (whilst still also being able to speak in guild chat, and appear online if I so wish, might I add). I’m sick and tired of dealing with randoms who constantly PM me to annoy me, and I’ve reached my boiling point.
I think I’ll put my status on invisible until something’s done. I’m so over this. It completely ruined my day today when, for example, someone PM’ed me ‘Society of Living Legends? So what, you think you’re a living legend?’ in a patronising manner. I had to explain to this random ignoramus that, no, I don’t think I’m a living legend, and that it wasn’t ME who chose the motto of the guild I am in, but he wouldn’t stop pestering me. I ended up having to turn my status to invisible. Yes I could have put him on my block list, but it’s getting pretty full as it is and I don’t know how much more space it will take.
I know I’m not the only one to be pestered by random fruitcakes – be they human or not. Feel free to share your experiences below.
They literally got into North Korea’s international news station and took down their internet, that’s technically terrorism.
How does this not deserve jail time?
I hope those guys are put in jail, shutting down gaming servers ain’t cool, especially being as it’s a new year and we’re trying to have fun and escape reality.
462 WvW ranks on my elementalist and still no ascended chest reward from a rank up :-( #unfair
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
My suggestion here would be for Anet to provide players with outlines of races and classes (just outlines of their bodies) so that players IRL (in real life) can draw what they believe would be awesome looking armor/weapons on them.
You see, as much fun as it is coming up with designs for armor/weapons, I simply cannot for the life of me, draw a charr, or a sylvari, or an asuran, or a norn, or a human for that matter XD (I can’t draw faces especially, but I can do armor and weapons).
If Anet provided this, then I think there could be some sort of stickied thread where people post their versions of what armor/weapons should be in game, and we could visually see that concept on characters. I think it would be awesome anyway, as most of us cannot draw humans, let alone other races in GW2.
I decided I’d give my necro an updated look. I went for an alien theme because of his name and the fact that necro’s are supposed to be intimidating.
Here’s the before and after:
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
I know none of these will ever happen but…
1. Dyeable Weapons
2. Legendary Dyes (particle effects/animations/sparkles/glow etc.)
3. Ability to pick up loot in WvW when you’re dead (an ‘unclaimed loot’ interface would pop up)
4. Skin locker
5. Ability to unlock the whole world map for your alts if you have already unlocked the world map
I agree, matchups definitely need work on, especially when you get the same two teams week after week after week.
Solution to the loot issue: Pick up your loot before you die
I do pick up my loot before I die as a matter of fact. I am constantly pressing my interact button whilst attacking so that I do pick up any loot before I die.
But you see here’s the problem, it’s precisely the second I die when more loot drops at my feet (I’d say around 98% of the time – murphy’s law). It is not the loot before I die that is the problem – it is the loot that appears after I die that I’m talking about here.
I also try to waypoint as soon as I can because sometimes the loot bags drop at my feet when I respawn – which is handy, though this too could be improved by having an interface pop up with ‘unclaimed loot’ or something – shouldn’t be that hard for Anet to create, though I’m no expert in programming.
Lying there dead does nothing to help your team anyway
I was printing this screenshot to make a point of how much loot I missed out on. I’m well aware that lying dead does not help my team, but thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Omfg I love this thread. I’ve always been a fan of the ritualist in GW1 (Spirit Spam build ftw) and would love to see them make a return to GW2.
I really like the item spells (perhaps an item you can hold which gives you a long duration of retaliation?) and rifts which cause AOE damage. Love, love, love it.
Full support
P.S. love the charr ritualist. You must have gone to a lot of effort drawing that! :O
Edit: I agree with Carlos, ditch the mana mechanic and Anet could work on balancing the skills and everything then would be perfect. I want to play ritualist in GW2 now!!! :-(
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Not being able to collect surrounding loot when you’re dead. For the love of squirrels, PLEASE fix it. It’s driving me nuts. The countless loot I’ve missed because of this… I can’t even… I know this thread will probably never even be looked at by a dev, so I guess I’m just venting my frustrations of what WvW needs fixing.
What are you guys’ turn offs in WvW?
I really wish this would happen, but the fact that it hasn’t been mentioned in the final outcome of the CDI progression, it’s looking highly doubtful despite all the support for it :-( #we’llbeheretill2020beforeitsevenconsidered
Sad to not even see dyeable weapons or even legendary dyes on the possible outcomes of this thread :-(
I give up, cya.
Hmmm my top 3 ideal updates…
1) Dyeable Weapons
Self explanatory really. We had this in GW1 and I feel it is a MUST HAVE update in GW2 so we can all truly stand out from the rest. Customization is one of the main elements in making me happy in gaming.
2) Legendary/Exotic Dyes
Dyes that apply particle effects/animations etc.
3) Bring back GW1 Weapon and Armor skins
So many of us who played GW1 miss obsidian ritualist armor, or the tormented shield for example. It would be amazing if we could obtain those again in GW2 as rewards through forms of currency (badges of honor, karma, dungeon tokens, fractal relics etc.)
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
I use male #3 and male #7 only – I don’t like the other faces. Although just today I changed my sylvari necro to the alien-like face (with silver-like ‘frosting’ skin :-P) with a total makeover kit I purchased from the gem store.
All I want for Christmas/New Years is dyeable weapons :-(
I wouldn’t say I’m ‘excited’ for 2014 because the next update isn’t until the 21st of January which is a looooong way away, however I am looking forward to seeing what Anet come up with in terms of making ascended gear more accessible, and I look forward to account bound WXP in particular. Hopefully some new black lion ticket claim skins too?
Hi guys, I was wondering how powerful the superior sigil of torment could potentially be with superior runes of tormenting (with stacking torment’s duration) on a high crit chance build, but then I thought, would that be more useful on a necro, or an ele?
Because I can get a high crit chance on my ele, perhaps it would be more useful on him, I don’t know. All I know is that I tried looking for torment builds for a necro or ele and couldn’t find any on youtube :-/ anyone know of any? Would love to see if a torment-specific build would be useful and fun, especially in WvW.
Edit: Actually any profession that could make the most out of torment would be good, not just necro or ele
(edited by Zaoda.1653)
Dhuum’s Scythe from GW1 for a legendary necro weapon please :P
It took me 70+ keys to make myself a whole ticket from the scraps (only got 1 whole ‘golden’ ticket, as such, in my entire life just when I had given up hope of ever receiving one), and just yesterday I opened 4 chests and got absolute junk XD #Iwantthe2hoursofmylifeback
I was tempted to get recipes for the plush griffon, toy soldier etc. but then realized they’re useless because you can no longer get the frames required to make the tonic anyway :-/ #whatsthepoint
I think I’ve only done about 6 of the actual achievements for Wintersday, and obtained 11 via dailies as the achievement points I refuse to do either 1) require a team, 2) take too long to be worth it, or 3) are just plain impossible for me – like the jumping puzzle. Yes I am one of those people who just can’t complete them, end of story.
I’m all for same-sex relationships in gaming, but here the level of subtlety is like hitting us in the head with a hammer. It’s purely meant as fanservice for gamers (=men).
Sorry but to me that sounds a bit hypocritical. That’s like me saying I’m all for opposite-sex relationships in gaming, but it’s TOO subtle, a bit over the top and needs to be toned down a bit.
…really?
I must have skipped through this cutscene, had my volume off, or done both to have missed it. Sounds funny though XD Anyone know where I can find this cutscene?
I think it’s awesome for a gaming company to have a sense of humour. Oh and inb4 new meme :-P
Would actually be awesome to have an illusion coloured/themed dress for mesmers to make them look like illusions rather than their normal physical form when I think about it.
Omg yes please. That scythe was AMAZING in GW1 and would definitely suit a necro in both GW1 and GW2 (though from memory it was only available to the Dervish in GW1).
I wish they brought back a whole ton of GW1 skins actually :-( I miss the tormented shield in particular.
Sorry I made another gigantic post here for the dev’s and players, it’s just I have a lot of passion on the subject of improving GW2 to make it the best it can be. Anywho…
Just a couple ideas that came to me.
Gathering Elite Skills like in GW1
I remember how awesome it was collecting elite skills from GW1 – going out and exploring, getting to some remote location and slaying a particular boss to unlock an elite for that character. I think it would be awesome to bring that mechanic back as well as perhaps some animations from GW1 elite skills (or even skills based off of GW1 elite skills!), like the ray of judgement animation, for some elite Guardian skill
For those who haven’t seen how epic RoJ was…
And how much fun capping elite skills were:
I also think Guild Halls would be a neat idea – to show off all the mini’s and ranger pets you’ve got. To show all the unique weapons or armors you’ve obtained, and so on. It could work sort of like how Runescape’s player housing system works. It’s an instanced area and the higher your construction level, the more areas you unlock, and the better items you can unlock.
For GW2, it could work like the account wide magic find system where you get items that increase your guild hall level. You could unlock bankers, traders, merchants, crafting stations, all sorts of vendors, and the higher your level, the more unique rewards you could unlock (like GW1 skins and different environments? I don’t know). You could invite your friends over and enjoy the perks of things like bankers and traders being right next to each other for quick trading etc.
Edit: Completely forgot. I think it would be good to bring back the Hero system too, where we can party with NPC’s rather than having to deal with random players who expect so much from you and ragequit at the drop of a hat, or simply for those (like me) who aren’t a people person and/or do badly in team situations.
Like GW1, you could customise and improve your heroes weapons, armor and give them specific skills to use (override and manage when they use them too – if need be), unlock other heroes (maybe in your personal story? Or perhaps when you get to a specific location you find that NPC and unlock that Hero). The possibilities here are endless.
There were so many amazing mechanics in Guild Wars 1 – from going out and capturing elite skills (making you really feel like you earnt that skill), dyeable weapons and armor, no travel costs, grouping up NPC Heroes, and if you weren’t particularly good at dungeons, you could pay the runner and tag along (CoF runs in GW1 was soooo awesome because you pretty much always profited and usually got an elite skill tome every now and then), and we got to fill in those dungeon books that gave titles or skill rewards that were well worth the time invested.
These sort of things I NEVER experienced from another game whatsoever, and it’s things like these that made GW1 so amazing and memorable, and I feel that GW2 is missing some of those vital mechanics that make it so different from other games and so much fun. I think bringing a few of these mechanics back would really do GW2 justice.
Edit 2: Just had another thought. I remember when Guild Wars 2 came out and there was a video or webpage by one of the dev’s talking about being able to fully customise your armor. Being able to take a spikey part of, say, your chest armor, and apply it to another piece of chest armor (Perhaps they were talking about the transmutation feature). At least, I interpreted this COMPLETELY different :-/ and was extremely let down when I didn’t see this feature in game. I wanted to be able to move spikes on my armor to different areas, or be able to add a bit of fluffy armor from one piece of chest armor to another piece of chest armor for example, in turn, combining the two to make a truly unique piece of armor.
I believe if we were able to do this (whether through a ‘customisation’ leveling system or through an ‘upgrade’ or ‘crafting’ system), it would definitely take customising your gear to the ultimate level, and this would be something that not many games do (if at all).
For example, you could take 2 shoulder pieces and combine them so it isn’t just on 1 side, but both sides (as I photoshopped an example for your viewing pleasure below), or even take the fluffy trim of Braham’s chest armor and apply it to a different heavy armored chest piece. The potential of customisation epicness here is HUGE.
