Are you kidding? If he posted today or yesterday he would get flamed so hard by this community for no actual reason. He has given the Ranger good changes and yet everyone here would want his head because of this stupid WHaO debacle. I don’t think it’s any surprise that the debs don’t want to post on the forums bc people just scream bloody murder all the time. Have you seen how a lot of the guardian or thief community for example treats Karl when he posts there? Would get annoying real quick when you’re just trying to help.
I don’t think anyone would blame irenio, I think at this point we all know Roy was in charge of the nerf, and it was most likely Irenio that did the buff. In the eyes of the ranger community, Irenio is a good man
He’s probably too busy getting yelled at for trying to give rangers nice things.
or he got fired for this reason
yet another example of how Devs could care less about Ranger. How are we to expect you will ever make serious improvements to the base ranger? You put through changes that were clearly never even really looked at or discussed as a community, and gut it into oblivion after you realize your own kitten up.
You give us something great and make it completely irrelevant 2 days later
aside from the completely pointless 2 seconds of quickness and protection, now we only get 3 stacks of might? seriously? Now I get 8 might from my jungle stalker instead of 15. Thanks…you almost made the 3 second cast timer on Might Roar usable. What is regen like 4 seconds? lol who cares I already get it in spades. vigor seems to be 3 seconds maybe, woopty doooo
thanks for another pointless aquaman “buff.” 2 more might on call of the wild, neato! Good thing I can time Clarion Bond with my pet swap to know when im gonna get it!Spirits are soooo much more viable now, and our pets can actually do condi damage now (wait they should have done that 3 years ago). Good thing block, invuln, dodge, evade, don’t exist and are not spammable in this game, otherwise Beastly Warden would have been hit pretty hard with its recent fix. Oh so glad you fixed Windborne Notes, wow, the Ranger community thanks you greatly for this, our most precious trait!
But hey, at least MDG is pretty awesome now…
there is NO viable build that uses quickness up keep that high anyways! NONE… thats so much quickness there is nothing else you can do after you press 12345…………………
wait…when did they delete auto attack?
incoming fortifying bond-esque caps, GG quickness builds
definitely worth gimping our build to get that tasty 2 1/2 seconds of extra quickness and protection
So incredibly frustrating. Like, if this is so broken that it needs a dev tweet the day after release, how could they have missed it when designing the change? Constant knee-jerk reactions when it comes to Ranger. Get it together already. Trust your own designers rather than a bunch of salty teenagers on a forum that represent a fraction of your playerbase.
exactly. Who designed this? Anyone? Was it darts at a dartboard? Did anyone even look at what boons a ranger can get before implementing this?
The real anger from the community here, isn’t the nerf itself, but the obvious lack of attention to detail from devs when it comes to designing the ranger (with the exception of Irenio whom I like a lot), i.e. they don’t give a kitten.
Could it be because none of the devs play ranger? yeah that’s probably it.
Irenio said during TwitchCon that he mains a Ranger. Not sure if it’s by choice or because he was given/selected to balance Rangers (and Engineers). Either way, he’s the only developer Rangers have on the balance team.
and yet someone else’s knee jerk reaction to a skill change is what leads to another nerf for rangers. GG anet.
what I really want to know is, who pioneered the change to WHaO in the first place? Was it Irenio? If it was him, I cant help but think as though this was a well thought out buff, that he knew would be powerful but also limiting, and only he understood it
If it was anyone else, its like, do you even bother testing things like this ahead of time at all? Ya know, before giving it to the most downtrodden class only to take it away the next day?
Or do you just throw darts at a wall? One lands on “We Heal as One”, second lands on “Boons,” and the third lands on “Pet”
BINGO!
i for one feel that boons should be equal opportunity, and they should implement more builds across classes that emphasize boon removal. That would make a nice meta/anti-meta environment about counterplay/risk-reward.
So what ranger can get boons now on a niche build? Chill, boon copy/removal, and pure condi builds destroy this build cuz it has nothing outside of this one niche.
only thing that should be touched with this “looking at” should be the quickness
lol at Roy too. Sorry Ranger was at risk for making your precious Herald look sub-par in comparison.
from the man who brought us the Herald, “too much boon uptime” he says…
Roy: Nerf incoming.
Why can’t we ever have nice things? Too much? At what cost though? It is completely not ideal to compromise so much just so we can get some quickness. UGGHH.
says the creator of the herald interestingly enough, the class that poops out passive might stacks, fury, protection, regen, with having double fury effect
Roy: Nerf incoming.
awesome, cant wait til they make it useless…
every time Ranger gets something that makes the,:
1. excel over other classes in some specific way
2. gives them a niche that other classes don’t have
3. buffs them up in order to push them towards meta standards
4. Makes people change their approach to fighting them
people cry OP, over and over again. This happens every time ranger sees a significant buff like this one. Why?
Cuz people have grown complacent with not having to deal with Rangers.
having trouble finding a build that can maximize on this with the issues of not having solid condi removal.
You could do something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQBcSpC0LI4vCw1CGwEK/wXgH/vhGoi7ldACgKu7G-TVQWAAw+DAA-whow do u get the protection thathigh?
Guard and Fortifying Bond (and extra boon duration from the same line) is all you need I think, but you could also let Blue Moa help you out and if in combat: Companion’s Defense and Protective Ward.
doesn’t seem nearly enough to stack it to 2 min
with guard the pet gets 12 seconds of protection + %50, so 18. If I take that protection im getting like 16 seconds of it on a 16 second cd from WhAO. Protective ward, and companions defense are too low of an amount to stack protection to those numbers.
I just got Protection up to above 1 minute with just Guard followed by Blue Moa F2, followed by We Heal As One and then Guard again and We Heal As One again. Then repeat that cycle a few times. It’s important to use the skills just before using Heal As One or you lose duration.
ok with moa I can undersatand but I don’t think I would use it, thanks for clarifying

with guard + WHaO, soldier runes and generosity sigils with berserker isn’t bad. At least you can potentially remove big burning stacks that way, and you provide a little support for the team.
I’ve been playing around with it and it’s quite easy to get 2 minutes of Fury, Swiftness, Regeneration and Protection. That’s because these boons stack in duration.
2 minutes of 25 stacks of Might isn’t really possible because it stacks in intensity and the duration doesn’t increase with copying.
2 minutes of Quickness might be possible, but I couldn’t do it. I also don’t think Retaliation is possible unless you get it from outside sources like Guardians.
So yeah it must certainly be OP with outside help. But I still went back to my old build anyway
how do u get the protection thathigh?
having trouble finding a build that can maximize on this with the issues of not having solid condi removal.
For those still having the issue I found a fix that worked for my on the Guild Wars 2 website
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
I found that the 3rd IP on the list worked best.
Hope that helped at least one personUsed the exact IP as in the example and now it works, the patch is downloading at full speed. EU server.
EDIT: However, download speed falls to 40 kbps after about 100 MB :/
ty sir u r a gentleman and a scholar
is LoyF good now?
Poor Frost Spirit. That skill’s group viability just got destroyed.
Huh? It got buffed unless I’m missing something obvious…
It got changed to Vuln application, which most groups have maxxed out anyway. In Heart of Thorns, this will be even worse as it will be handed out like candy on Halloween. Frost Spirit now adds no damage at all to most groups.
-Storm Spirit: Changed the on-hit boon to now apply 3 stacks of vulnerability for 10 seconds.
same. word from the devs on this?
There’s already a trait that boosts some power based off of healing power if that helps.
If you want to build more damage, build more damage. You can’t have it all.
Not sure i was wanting it all, i was just expressing an idea. Sorry to have offended you.
lol drama queen. you didn’t offend him, nor did what he said to you merit responding with “sorry I offended you”
simply, as he said, this trait already exists in nature magic
it wasn’t what some people were expecting, and I can empathize with those who are unhappy, feel worse or about the same as they did prior.
I personally am happy, surprised, intrigued, but not in any extreme way.
- Make Spirits follow you baseline
Really disagree with this one. I love moving spirits and really want the option back, but that’s the key part: an option. There are times and places for them and times and places for static ones (though range should be reviewed in that regards). You don’t want the water/sun spirit to follow you stupidly when you melee a boss for example.
In fact, that’s the core issue with moving spirits: making it baseline or merging it to the other spirit traits means that you’ll be stuck with them following you even if all you wanted was the spirit buff. But then, it’s such a small effect that it would feel costly to pick even as a minor trait…
Ideally, it could have been added as a static/follow F5 control, just like the pet passive/aggressive setting. I guess, maybe an F6 now that the druid has landed.
then give them a command to follow or not follow, or just add the option back to the GM
plz look at:
- Warhorn: add more might at the very least
- MDG: maybe pulse stability or weakness. Or just delete it and make a better one.
- Clarion Bond: Reduce CD to match Pet swap
- Windborne Notes: Add Resistance or a simple condi clear:
- Shortbow: Either revert range back to 1200 or add it to LoyF.
- Striders Defense: Add projectile reflect to dodge/evade
- Honed Axes: Each axe adds +150 ferocity
- Predator’s Instinct: Cripple and Activate Sharpening Stone when you hit a target under 50%
- Merge Refined Toxins and Poison Master and make it GM, move EB down to master. * Add another GM trait.
- Increase GS Auto damage slightly
- Make Spirits follow you baseline
- Reduce CD on Signet of the Hunt to 20 Seconds
- Give pets healing power (if pets can heal they should have healing power)
- Reduce the activation time on super long F2s like jungle stalker
Initial thoughts…
Staff:
Well designed. Will benefit multiple builds (LB power, trapper, and healer/support builds)
- Ancestral Grace: needs evade like Swoop
Glyphs:
Most a little underpowered (won’t be used in current form). Reducing the cooldowns on some of them will push us more towards the masters of CC which can define our role more outside of healer
- Overall: Increase range to 450
- Alignment: Increase damage or add Slow
- Equality: Reduce CD to 30 sec. add Stun break
- Tides: Add stun break
- Empowerment: Increase duration by 3 seconds (not 20% damage is way too much burst damage for PvP). The celestial version of this Glyph is very underwhelming and seems forced (like you need it to make heals worth it). Change to incoming damage is converted to healing for 2 seconds
- Unity: Fine as is
Traits:
Really nice in general, but Seems like Natural Mender and Live Vicariously should be 1 trait.
Ready for the HOTNESS?
- New Minor trait.Celestial Insight: Allies in a 450 radius gain 1 stack of Celestial Insight (3 seconds: +1% to all stats) every second while you are in Celestial Form._
- Celestial Shadow: Superspeed when entering celestial. Stealth when exiting. Increase duration to 3 seconds each.
Celestial Form:
Healing. Healing…Too much healing…boring. Remember…nature is destructive too.
- Cosmic Ray: Its bad. Ground- targeted heal for an auto attack. Cant move during it. We need a damage option in Celestial form . Needs a rework, not sure what though.
- Seed of Life: Add 1 stack Stability for 2 seconds.
(edited by Zatoichi.1049)
Irenio said something about adding an additional effect to seeds of life. I am thinking Stability would be ideal
Currently I am kind of at odds with one thing only: Healing feeding the celestial gauge faster than damage does. On the surface it seems like your healing is being rewarded with more healing. IDK, it seems weird to me, but I do want to actually see how it plays out in battle before I say whether its ok or not.
what if MDG pulsed might and weakness under 50%
OP , I get what you mean, Ranger forum has become a dark, filthy alleyway of bitter, beaten vagabonds. You want to see us become more positive because maybe our current way is only further provoking the ire of the mighty devs. Hate to be blunt, but no matter what we say, or how we say it, it matters very little, cuz the devs just don’t come here either way. Plain and simple.
Sorry bro, Ranger never did take any skill even today.
Nothing hard about instant cast taunt or baiting cool downs and dodges with your pet.
Ranger is THE beginner class until they change how braindead evading while spamming attacks and getting carried by AI works.
ehhhhh….warrior and guardian are just as easy to play as Ranger. Warrior is just as populated as ranger, and guardian is slightly less populated
I had a similar thought. If changes are very strong, suddenly people must now contend with ranger being good, and that might cause quite a stir. But, I would rather be over buffed → nerfed at this point, cuz its better than the current tourtise-like pacing of slight buffing offset by nerfing, that rangers are currently dealing with. Honestly I could care less about FotM bandwagoners, im more concerned how strong changes will cause a storm of sudden QQ
HYYYYPE!!!!
cool that its at 1, I can actually watch it before work this week
when I think of the medium armor clasess, which one should have the highest health: it is the Ranger. Hardened, wandering survivor that has to adapt to all sort of troubles, including things that has brought him close to death, only to come out stronger. I support this idea
1. Play Revenant and Reaper for a while
2. Do majority of new pve content
2. return to ranger just to see…
3. be sad and stop playing gw probably
1-2 gold daily for first unranked/ranked match won sounds ok
At this point, why are we letting ourselves even debate what it could be?
Wednesday/Thursday blogs should drop, and Friday is the reveal. Time to buy a ton of alcohol to drink in either celebration or to forget an awful reveal, or make a drinking game and take a drink (not a shot, you might die) every time the devs look displeased to be talking about ranger, sigh, or have no idea what they are talking about in regards to Ranger (“most dangerous game looks really strong, it will definitely need toning down, hue hue hue”).
Agreed, everybody just calm down and wait for Wednesday since we at least know that Ranger wasn’t removed from the game LOL. Last prediction: Aspects will be seasonal and Druids will be walking Nature Rituals that pulse effects/environmental changes in a ~1200 range, which would very easily change the “pvp landscape”.
I like the way that sounds a lot
But you see, Ranger IS getting a rifle. It’s so obvious!
ANEY WHYYYY!!!! This is not what rangers need and proof that Anet doesn’t care about rangers!!!
that pet in the background appears to have been transformed in some way, or its a new pet
its true we would get locked out of beastmastery entirely without the pet, wilderness survival has a significant amount of pet traits, as does nature magic. Skirmishing and Marks have some as well.
if we lost the pet entirely, they would also have to change MH axe, longbow, greatsword, shortbow, MH sword. All have skills that effect pet.
Its likely we will lose pet swap and gain aspect swap, so 1 pet that his harder to kill, and aspect buffs to self and allies is my guess.
The problem with Beastly Warden is, that people only notice, if they get hit by the taunt “out of nowhere”, but don’t notice, if they are avoiding the taunt “accidentially” by moving arround. Which leads to this “completely unavoidable” feeling.
And the instant nature of this trait is basically the only thing, which makes it usefull. Ranger has already enough pet CC with long casttimes, it would be useless to add another one.
this is absolutely true, but you cant say things like that cuz people will only ever deny it
OP, you clearly are losing to a build/class you don’t understand, a build that countered yours, or simply a player that was better than you. The moment you accept the fact that there are always better players out there, is the moment you grow and improve and can make that next step towards being a better pvp’er. I sugest you try and walk a few miles in our shoes, make a ranger and run with it for a couple weeks. In the process you may learn (I use the qualifier “may” because you seem like the type more likely to QQ than want to learn and improve) that rangers in pvp are not these masters of super speed that you claim they are, nor are they even close to the alpha class they seem to be in your eyes.
Will you occasionally meet a masterful player? Yes, that’s when you sit back, relax, and make a decision: Do I adapt my build/play style to counter this, or do I move on accept this build that beat me that one time, has nothing to do with the meta and move on.
beastly warden…
Best guess?
- Pet stays as is, because screw Rangers, thats why.
- Aspect swap goes on F5. Aspects determine what kind of effect each of our glyphs does, exactly like ele. Why? Because it is the absolute least amount of work.
- Aspects provide an unkillable Aura that applies to us, our pets and nearby allies, just like spirits always f’n should have.
- Traits and glyphs make us the best providers of Resistance boon in the game.
- Staff is a 1200 range weapon. 1- bouncing auto attack like chain lightning, applies some sort of non damaging condi. 2- Spammable aoe, works like a symbol (pulsing dmg to enemies, buffs to allies). 3- directional whirl, evades attacks and immobilizes enemies struck. 4- charge up a devastating attack that fires a heat-seeking vine from you to your target, does damage and a cc based on targets life. 5- large long duration aoe, ala meteor shower, but less damage, causes lots of random knockdowns.
- 1 glyph will be an aspect based transform, another will be an aspect based summon, another will be an aspect based attack proc (just like glyph of elemental power), another will be a aspect based aoe buff (like: stealth or resistance or quickness).
Make it so!
despite your dissonant timbre, you have put some though into this.
I am almost sure we wont see shapeshifting for a few reasons:
It will open up a whole new can of worms in regards to glitches and playability that both anet and players don’t want to deal with.
ANET has proven to be a company that likes to “break-the-mold,” meaning they are unlikely to continue the gaming tradition of druids being shapeshifters. They are more likely to look further back to the “real” druids and create their own interpretation.
As pointed out to me from another member here, Druids in GW1 shed their bodies to become “one with nature” and became giant Oakheart-like Spirits. Its more likely our druid will share similarieites in that regard, supporting more the data-mined aspect swapping mechanic.
(edited by Zatoichi.1049)
That sounds
far too weak for an elite.like Spirit of Nature:) I fixed it for you.
yeah I guess its too much like spirit of nature didn’t think of that

wut?
I mean our elite spec IS called “Druid”, I don’t think Rangers want to have anything to do with firearms from a thematic standpoint.
Are we sure about that? Everyone thought engineer would get “forge”…Personally I was blindsided when I saw “scrapper”!
to the best of my knowledge, the word forge was never officially released, unlike Druid which was officially released as the first specialization when they revealed HoT.
Whether or not they have changed their mind since then, on what the druid was to become, that’s a different story…
