Where to place ranger? As master of survival ofc!

Work well with your pet and you can be near invincible. Also tons of evades on melee weapons, solid melee and great ranged damage, strong condition game, and good ability to control mobs (traps!). On top of that add ability to pull out 50k hp bear (that’s 5x the hp of your typical zerk guardian) that needs to stay alive for 20 secs (or 16 if trated) before you can swamp to 2nd pet with full hp and you know you got bear grylls with a bow there.

But it’s true rangers are less supportive to party then guardians. We can’t give our party stability like the guard nor create safe zones. But who needs that if our pet manages to get boss’s aggro while staying way away from rest of ppl. Ofc that’s a big if, given the game’s rather mysterious aggro mechanic..

Recommended setting graphics . help pls!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

Yeah the game’s graphical settings are socialistic by default – they want “your good” but usually you end up getting something you with to throw back at them making sure you’re wearing thick protective gloves while doing so.

I got wholly different specs (NVidia + intel) but i can chip in this when it comes to graphical settings of the game:

Basically there are two sorts of settings in graphics – memory hogs, and processing hogs. If you got the RAM, memory hogs are no issue and you can ride them free – that is high quality textures, high quality character models, high environment.

Trickier part are the processing hogs and in my experience it’s the anti-aliasing that’s the main culprit of crappy fps. I turned that one off, and i can still get around 25-30 fps in most maps with shaders set to high, best texture filtering, highest quality character models.

I also owe a few fps to giving post-processing a skip, and not caring at all about shadow’s quality, though the latter probably doesn’t affect fps nearly as much if i were to guess.

Also set character model limit to low or lowest, while keeping their quality at highest. You won’t butcher the gpu when there’s more people on the map, while you’ll still get breathtaking views.

Also i had problem with game crashing completely, and freezing up my lappy. Like totally. Had to cut power to restart it, that badly. Turns out the solution was to download additional software for graphics card that let you set limits on it’s clocking speed. Once done, performance didn’t dwindle at all, while the crashing ceased completely. Ofc as i said that was on totally different specs then yours and different GPU brand, but just giving it a honourable mention.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZeftheWicked.3076

I don’t know what’s so good about fixing RNG with more RNG (throwing random tickets at less fortunate players).

I am all for a token system, as well as achievement based rewards. RNG can stay ofc, but on top of something what while not easy, is a robust and reliable means of getting that ephemeric boss drop equipment that otherwise is like UFO to some die-hard runners.

Also supplementing (noT replacing!) may be an idea to make a given weapon/armor tradeable at npc for another of same type (for example trade sunless reaver for sunless spire, or leftpaw’s light striders for leftpaw’s heavy chest and vice-versa).

So let's rap about power attribute

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZeftheWicked.3076

Both PvE meta and the might nerf indicate our devs have little understanding of what’s the problem in pve and try to cure the proverbial cold by cutting off the nose…

For over two years the PvE is plagued by zerk meta, combined with might stacking. However what should be understood that the cause of the problem…is anything but might stacking!

Being able to kill things fastest when you go balls to the wall on offence…is the most logical and known way to get the kill fast. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the thought that an attacker will be faster at killing then the defender.
Where the game falls flat on it’s face, is that while the above is true, it’s also true that in a balanced game said scenario leaves said attacker at huge disadvantage defense wise, requiring top skill, deep understanding of game mechanics, his character and his opponnet to slay the beast before it slays him. In short he has no room for mistakes, that more defensive oriented characters often do.

Instead in here, the more damage…the less skill required. Go zerk grab and ice bow, and the boss will fall before putting your defenses through a real test with his deadliest attacks, or at least it’ll use it just once before it dies. While the less offensive characters have to deal with much more issues as the their fight drags on longer…

As for might itself, it’s a character independent buff that grants flat amount of power and condition damage per stack…which in all honesty is a defender’s boon, much less attackers!

If i have a character who’d decked…lets say in nomad gear and only base 916 power behind his blows, while the guy next to him has roughly 2,5k thanks to offensive gear, then 25 might stacks will not make the gap larger, only infact smaller.

The defender has his power nearly doubled while the attacker receives slightly over 1/3 damage boost.

Of course there is issue with people wanting party might stackers and shunning the less gifted ones in the field (necro!), and that is an issue. But first issue that should be taken on is that the risk vs reward factor is upside down, causing defensive buffs and debilitating conditions to be mostly overlooked or treated as icing on the cake, and not something equally critical to might stacks (save stability maybe).

Mortar Elite

ZeftheWicked.3076

Mortar needs some major buffing. First of all why is it not considered a turrets for traits?
Supply crate’s turrets are affected by traits as is the elixir X by proper elixir traits.

2nd of all what is it with it’s paper defenses? Just one look at that thing (along with stability) screams that it’s one heavy, sturdy piece of hardware. So why it breaks apart so easily? Especially given it’s stationary and cannot be picked up or detonated like a turet for last second advantage before it’s busted to pieces.

What’s with the kittenty range? It’s a MORTAR kitten. It’s my own elite tool for some LONG range death from above for my party. It’s range should be on par with environmental siege weapons. Also the projectiles should move faster. This is not “for fun targeting practice” on renowned heart, it’s an elite. A skill to turn the tide of battle. And here’s the important part for those of a-net devs that missed it:

in my favour, not the enemy’s!

Ps. Yeah that 10 sec ice field is great:) As long as i still have range and a mortar to use..

There is a reason why sylvari look nothing like mordrem. That is because they’re meant to infiltrate the sentient races of Tyria and give Mordremoth the knowledge and tools to prevent them from successfuly oposing him. Do remember elder dragons already had their kitten handed to them by Tyrians in the past. Each one of them is aware of the danger surface dwellers may pose, and each one of them is corrupting them into it’s ranks to get his intel and an army. Only exception here being Primordius, but 4 outta 5 (Zhaithan, Jormag, Kralkatorrik, and now Mordy) make the trend clear.

I’d say thief or ranger. Thief lets you sneak past obstacles and easily disengage from a fight – he’s good for convinience.

If you want to rambo your way through then ranger’s the way to go – he has both solid damage, challenging (but not maze-like) gameplay and very solid defense gamepley that lets him be the last man standing if that is needed.

[Suggestion] Ascended Gear Transmutation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

Ok we all know that asecended gear’s advantage in stats over exotics is miliscule, and the real point is that they’re account rather then soulbound. But that hits the wall when you pass them from one character to another which has totally different skins along with look & feel.

Sure you can transmutate, but what if you switch those weapons between your characters often, like daily?

So my suggestion is this – ascended weapons and armor would memorize each skin they’ve been transmutated into. To get a new skin, you would have to use transmutation charge like with anything else, but after that the new skin is saved in armor’s memory, and you can switch to that look free of charge at your leisure, to make that ascended really sharable between your toons.

Gem store town outfit idea.

Ok as title says here’s the reason why i personally avoid the mode:

The map is ugly.

Yes, that. If I’m to spend hours on a map it has to something beutiful that enchants me and basically feels great to roam. PvE maps raise up to that challenge, at least maguuma jungle & wastes + shiverpeak zones. Even charr lands have their bright moments.

But WvWvW? Some generic medieval european looking countryside that has absolutely nothing enthralling about it for me. So in short a-net, do consider making someting …less reserved for World vs World if you want to lure yours truly in.

Nothing major i know, as i’m one guy, but with all the profession balancing topics, i thought it might be good to let you know there are other reasons asides balance some people just don’t wonder in there.

Wildstar gets what it deserves for the dated solutions and most of all horrible fps issues in a game in which gameplay is very dependant on smooth framerate. Lesson to be learned for future mmo releases.

one thing that I fear is that there will never be a game like it. Finally there was a difficult MMO on the market aaaaand it died. Yeah… So much for variety.

It just proved once more that not a lot people really want to have overly hard content
and that raiders and elitists are simply a minority even if they don’t want to believe
it because they are overly represented at most forums.

Also @ANet .. take that at a hint that EQ-Style Raids is the last thing we need to “save” the game.

Way to turn what i said upside down. I never said difficulty was the issue. It was the execution and sticking to old solutions – not difficulty wise, but player friendliness wise. For example non-shared harvesting nodes and the feeling every player (mostly of your own faction!) is a disaster on two legs waiting to rob you of your node..

Difficult fights are good as long as they’re difficult by design, and not by kittenty engine screwing everything up.

Nitpicks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

So yeah, once again you want to sleep when you hear that annyoing mosquito buzz that just won’t go the hell away. It’s small, it’s insignificant but it’s there and it’s kittening you the hell off. So without further ado, without any importance order or categorizing, here are the nitpicks that are driving me nuts when i play this otherwise great game:

1. Hair accessory color – why can’t i use my own unlocked dyes for those already?

2. Why can’t i preview my mainhand and offhand weapon at the same time in character preview window?

3. Royal palace terrace guard kicks me out from there like a bum when i log off inside, despite having perm pass.

4. Why graphical settings in preview window seem to be slightly different then those of rest of the game?

5. Clipping. Nuff said.

6. Human faces. Does it hurt so much to introduce some sharper features to them for both the genders?

7. Changing skills. For crying out loud. Do we SERIOUSLY not have any other fast method for this then selecting that miliscule arrow over skills icon, hoping we hit it right instead of triggering skill itself by accident? We should have keybord shorcuts for bringing skill selection pop up window up. When i’m in a hurry (dungeon run) i don’t want to stop drop and roll to hero panel skill selection, or target & pray when i’m doing with the “pop up menu way”.

8. Inventory autosort. Why isn’t it still here? I like my stuff packed next to similar items – weapons grouped one next to another, same for potions, armors, salvage kits etc. If someone doesn’t like it, he doesn’t have to press it. All it takes is a small button to press or not press if you don’t want it.

9. Black lion claim ticket skins – seriously? RNG + paywall? In sleezy f2p games that’s common practice, but you’re better then that a-net.

10. Fractal skins, Teq weapons, Wurm armor..and similar stuff. Again RNG owning player’s kitten . Just give this thing a token system or some achievement system for guaranteed skin/weapon of player’s choosing. Not saying it has to be easy, but at least it’d be some degree of justice and incentive for given content runners.

11. NPE – way to turn 3 course quality full meal into looking like a cheap hamburger. The game is not stupid, and that’s a good thing, so stop hitting it on the back of it’s head with a hammer!

12. Elementalist conjured weapons. Need structure dealth with? No problem, elementalist to the resque! Other professions? What are those? New food?

13. Hey there ranger! Need a trenchcoat? No? Ah, don’t be like that, we got tons of trenchcoats for you. “What? go shove them up your…” Well if you’re like this then enjoy your full 5 or so other armors that don’t look like trenchcoat #236..

14. Now THIS is a sword perfect for my character….right after i dye it black in photoshop, cause the kitten game doesn’t let me put any of much needed paintwork on my weapons!

15. Need a backpack? Great news! Hobosack’s R Us is opened for business! If you don’t look with it like a hobo then it’s a bug!

16. You just ended a fight went out of combat and it’s time to switch your skills for next boss. Your skill #7 is on cd but 8 and 9 aren’t on cd and just fine for a quick switch. The hell? i switched 8 and now it’s on same cooldown as #7?! What gives! Fix this a-net!

There’s probably loads more, for now i’ll give my nagging nature a short respite while looking off in the distance where backpacks aren’t accessories for the homeless only..

Two known reasons for kicking are either people joining a group that clearly states they want someone else (like “zerk warrior only” or “lvl 80 exp” when you’re level 36), or a group that generally sucks and is hiding in the corner about it trying to pin the tail on the “non optimal profession” or someone who’s suggesting alternative strategy to “icebow zerk stack” and “we would kill it before it killed us had you more power!”.

In first case your own fault in second, faster you leave them the faster you get a real fast run.

When i played my necro in TA exp path 1, I got kicked before even start because i was one. With a new group we did it just fine (that was my first run of it too), and i was constantly ripping condies of my teammates and fearing and chilling the mobs for some downtime for the team. I doubt they saw any of that, being busy with a kill, but no one can tell me necros offer no support.

Nice website, didn’t knew about it. Thanks for this useful tool!

On topic:
Well what i see is what happened after the 875 one went down. Offer on the 900g one was 40g lower then before. That’s a tell tale sign for me that the 875g one was sold to the 350g bidder and the one bidding after that is another person. Otherwise the 350g buyer would up his offer to get the dagger he still wants, not necessairly from this seller, but someone else who has one and looks at offers.

Also the chart shows clearly another thing we all know and see. Just because there’s one skin of certain type in stock, does not mean it’s really the last one there is for sale. Another factor contributing to unwilingness of people to cough up 1k gold for one.

Dreamthistle Skins - Price to sell

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

Sorry but as a buyer interested in a dreamthistle skin i will burst your bubble. You overpriced your skin hard. As most of sellers did. Now they’re just waiting for their gold. And they’ll wait all right. A looooong time. Here’s the deal:

What you’re selling there is a one handed weapon skin. That means that there’s an issue of a matching offhand weapon. Who wants to spend a fortune on a weapon skin when you know it’ll still look bad, because you are not willing to pay another near 1k gold for an offhand that matches it, rather then ruining the whole impression.

There’s also the issue of uncertainity about their return to tp. All a-net guarateed is that they will not appear back before 31.12.2014. Which is behind us now, so it’s wild west now – no guarantees these ridicilously priced skins are our true last shot at getting one.

The purchase offers you see there are the realistic value of an item. Anything is worth only as much as people are willing to pay for it. And that there are their prices. 400 gold which is offered on some items doesn’t just grow on trees. For some people it’s some serious hard work and dedication to get it and i can see why they refuse to go over that, especially for a weapon that needs matching offhand to have real purpose in the first place. And notice that with those prices the sellers are happily troddling into precursor price territory. And if someone wants a 1h dreamthistle + offhand? well in some cases that might be over the pre of precursor and close to some less popular legendaries. That is a barrier of reason few if any at all are willing to cross with their gold, but time will tell.

Ps. Yes i am bidding on dreamthistle weapon, but not the dagger. Nor a staff (regarding another topic where i expressed my dissatisfaction with prices on those).

Top 5 things Anet got wrong

1. NPE

2. Traits starting at lvl 30, getting one point each 6 levels and those 100% map completions as unlocks (doing one event you may not love is one thing, being stuck on a map you don’t want to for a longer spell is another).

3. Precursors being pure RNG. I’m glad to see that in recent living story chapters gear is aquired through gameplay and taking on challenges rather then pure luck.

4. Character personality being removed. I still remember my brute necromancer persona. That thing should’ve been expended rather then scrapped. I wanted to punch some npcs, or sweettalk them into revealing something they normally wouldn’t.

5. The updates. Unless they got something BIG coming then wth am i looking at here? They created a huge world in what? 4 years? Now it’s been 2 and asides content that was there and gone (like marionette, molten facility, tower of nightmares) we’re getting one map that’s size of a single zone from the base game. Yes it’s way more complex and fun, but for pete’s sake…one permanent zone after two years!!

But no, game wants to make this easier on me, but taking away my ability to properly defend myself at earlier levels when i screw up with my first 4 skills (cause 5th is still locked at lvl 9).

How is this better then the old system that gave me freedom far earlier and let me battle with with all my downed skills available from the start? You figure it out, i’m writing this off as abomination of a change that should be removed a.s.a.p.

Bottom line of my thread is that programmers were lazy at our expense. And mind you they’re charging extra money for it. Regular ingame features are better programmed then a payed one.

Even if one has to be ousted for one reason or another, it could be done with teleporting like in case when you don’t have a pass and try to enter with stability on. You’re just ported back. Having the guard kick my character with line that should never be there, given i have the pass, is nothing more then someone not doing their job right, while charging extra $ from players for it.

Royal terrace guard - fix it!

Minor nitpick, but it’s the small things piling up that cause eruptions.
I have a royal terrace pass (permanent). yet every time i log off there i log back in to view of my character getting kicked out like a scrub, cause “no pass, no entry, no exceptions!”

That pass that’s all the time in my inventory and is completely permanent? I didn’t cough up 1000 gems to be treated like a late night drunk at pub that’s about to close, thank you very much.

Of course it’s a minor gripe, but it really stains the “exclusive” service feeling and is basically programmers taking shortcuts at expanse of my immersion. The royal pass should not be an item at all, only account wide unlock. Simple as that. And from that moment on guard should have beef with my characters only if it was 2 week one and duration has expired. Instead we get the boot cause someone didn’t bother to code it right.

This post is one of the best proofs that NPE sucks and shouldn’t have happened. The dancing for cows especially. Earlier it was picking up the feed and feeding them. Normal, logical and not making new players feel like jesters for livestock. Not to mention massages for dried out corn crops (earlier it was picking up bucket of water and watering them). Next time i’ll see a man dying out of thirst, i’ll give him a backrub, that will get him alive and kicking!

Horrendous New Player Evisce..erm Experience aside, the game is great and Angry Joe was not bullkittenting. You must understand you’re in a different world from normal MMO and rules you know don’t apply. Here what matters is customization. Both your build (skills, traits, gear stats) and your looks are deeply customizable and they matter. You will experience that later on, as at beginning game is very forgiving and you have but few barebones skills making it feel stupid and dumbed down. But go forth, discover places on your own, do personal story, craft stuff, complete maps, and unlock your skills and traits. As you progress you will see true greatness that is this game.

And along with most of us erect a middle finger aimed at “New Player Experience” that made you believe such great game sucks. Because in earlier days it was awesome from the start (traits at lvl 11, weapons unlocking with number of kills not levels, no dancing for cows etc.) Take notes and undo damage A-net!

I don’t know what you mean above there. But what I mean is that in a dungeon run it is nearly impossible to get 20 seconds time window to switch traits so you build is more optimal for boss ahead. If you do you risk running into already killed one by 4 others.

Dungeons (least AC) seem to punish flexibility and build diversity during a run, while it should be encouraging applying different tactics and builds to a given challenge.

Well game underwent some changes, but dungeon’s aren’t catching up, eventually hitting the wall. As example i’ll add my favourite one: Ascalonian catacombs.

I love this dungeon to bits, especially the 3 bosses that force you to use strategy (and the fact stacking’s been fixed for spider queen, and collosus rumblus). What hurts me is that’s it’s too easy. What i mean in a fast run you literally run through it. You can’t even properly switch skills in some cases, because if you do the boss will be dead before you even get there (not to mention traits). Looking at you, Kholer.

I’m a thief and guess what? I want to support my party with my evil venoms. I like the idea that not only i can do damage, i can heal my party and add some on top with leeching venoms, and victimize the boss with 20 stacks of torment. But guess what, i don’t get to, because venoms aren’t good for evey occasion (1v1 only) and switching to them before other 4 guys kill it requires F1 pit stop speed and coordination. If i have to yell “Hey guys, wait up, lemme switch to venoms to make kill faster…” yeah, that’s self-ironic right there.

We didn’t always have trait changes on the fly. At the beginning you went in and out with same trait set up, like it or not. But we do now, so it would be cool if dungeons took that into consideration and were braver in probing our defense and offense from more sides, rewarding varied trait and skill setup rather then kicking us in the nuts for “daring to mess with holy zerk traits”…

New player here with some questions!

3. No, there are many others. For one not being in enemy’s attack zone (like walk/run away from it if wind up is slow or get behind it). You can also blind it and it’ll miss it’s next hit for sure (unless it’s a boss). You can also block attacks or use skills with build in evade (that depends on a skill and profession you have).

4. Skins and gear are two different things. Gear can be soulbound and not shared with anyone else if that’s the case. Skin (it’s look) however will be unlocked in account warderobe and you can apply that look to any other item on any other character as long as the item is of same type (spear look into another spear, heavy chestplace into another heavy chestplace). You need transmutation stones to do that. You get them sometimes from daily achievements, map completions, and mostly black lion chest (their rl money income source).

5.5 your bank (storage) is also accessible from any crafting station.

7. if you’re not an asura there is still a way – gather runes of geomancy from Crucible of Eternity dungeon and you’ll be able to randomly summon a golem on hit (with certai cooldown). But that’s something you should try after you get some experience under your belt.

Well I’m back after a break and am wondering before I dive back into them – the fractal weapon skins. Once they do drop – is it a random skin like in the old days, or is it a box where i choose my fractal skin like with ascended gear boxes that drop at teq or jungle wurm?

I don’t know if it implemented or not, since i don’t have it. But i would look into the flute if it had the option of controlling the tone lenghts by key press. For example i hold down the tone key for 3 secs, then it plays for 3 seconds then ends (softly). If i hold down for one second it plays for 1 second. Obviously not every instrument can have that mechanic, but a flute should if it’s not there yet.

I was playing my human commoner storyline to get my black lion key when something itched me to talk to blaize during the bandit hideout covert operation.

What i got is this gem of a reference to Blazing Saddles and it’s villain casting scene:
