tbh speaking as someone from FA. Janthir is just a better WvWvW server than us. We’ve faced them before and got creamed. So I dont think anyone was expecting much.

Also im always very confused when people talk about it being an oceanic server. unless im confused on what times that’s indicating. because 2am EST right now and janthir is in last for potential points.

They honestly do best around 7am EST. Which is honestly what I consider to be the end of the night.

Been a fun matchup though. And we managed to eeeek out about a 15k lead on SoS that I hope we can keep up.

the flame legion pants actually clip with the tail.
It’s just really well disguised. Try spinning in a circle, you’ll note that there’s no tail hole. Your tail just goes right through the pants in 1 clean cut that makes it look like it isnt clipping.

Changes to Magg

in Suggestions

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

The first thing I want to note here is that the changes im about to suggest are with one key philosophy in mind
Dungeons should require co-ordination.

I believe this is a philosophy that Anet once shared, and perhaps still do, but they have a really weird way of showing it.

There’s another tenet of these suggestions which might not be at first apparent, but is no less true.

Harder difficulty achieved through monster hp or damage is usually not a good test of co-ordination.

With these principles in mind, lets look at Magg.

A Magg run consists of several small events leading up to a final boss. It features a low amount of trash that you have to fight. But also has exactly 0 co-ordination needed. This is why it is so PuGable. As someone who has done the other explorable paths, I can assure you that they required far more co-ordination than magg ever has. (The torch lighting in both paths, the braizers in path 1, ETC. All of these required co-ordination of a higher degree)

TO wit:

change 1. Devourers – The devourers are the first main event. Pitting players against a swarm of devourers that respawn as long as the nests are alive.
Suggested change – Make a few of the pits respawn within a minute of being destroyed.
hopeful effects – Respawning if not killed within a timeframe is one of the best ways to require co-ordination. This change will give an incentive for players to plan around who is doing what. It also leads to multiple strategies, such as “Do we burst all the nests, or lower them to a few hits then kill them all in quick succession” and so on

change 2. First boss fight (Champion guy with the whip) – This is the first boss of the dungeon run. He deals very little damage. He does occasionally knock you back. He spawns devourer adds.
Suggested change – Make the siege devourer that he spawns at 25% spawn at 75% instead. Consider giving the boss a buff while the devourer is alive.
Hopeful effects – This change is less about co-ordination and more about making a currently very boring boss fight more interesting with the addition of a better mechanic. Also slightly harder, because despite the previous tenets we discussed, in this case, harder is better.

change 3. Bomb running – You enter a room and must run bombs to magg within a certain timeframe
suggested change – Add more enemies in the room. Give them cripples and immobilizes (for example, put pop up groups of ooze or something. You used to love this one in GW1 !)
hopeful effects – This change would hopefully give players a reason to clear the room before trying to run the bombs. It lengthens the dungeon somewhat, but I think that’s really a necessity. Normal groups wouldnt feel too bad about this change, as extra mobs means extra loot, and clearing a room of turrets and trash is really not that bad as long as the trash is manageable (and things like archers and ooze certainly are)

change 4. Lava fields – Players must cross a field of lava and fire
suggested change – remove the monsters. Give magg a cryo shield of sorts that he deploys. Anyone outside the shield takes fire damage. Make monsters spawn as magg crosses the fields of lava.
hopeful effects – Right now the actual strategy is literally, run across. The imps are immortal, the fires come back to quickly, and players dont actually have skills. Magg also refuses to move sometimes. This change will require players to position themselves correctly, and also fix several issues and design flaws with this challenge

change 5. door blowing – Magg stands still for 3 minutes to plant a bomb
suggested change – tone down monster spawn rate. Tone down monster hp.
Hopeful effects – gives a reason for players to fight. The fact is right now that fighting is just not as effective as running. And increasing the time limit is NOT helping this. As kiting is now even more effective (groups that couldnt kill the monsters before certainly cant kill them now. And kiting is still just as effective, because if you are dedicating 100% of your time to survival you’ll survive more than if you try to fight too) This event really needs to be toned down. A lot. It was the only event that was semi-fine previously. Then it got made way worse. Put it back to how it was, or even make it easier. If you use the other changes, it wont impact overall dungeon time limit, or co-ordination required.

That’s really all I have to say about this dungeon. And just to reiterate it
more co-ordination good
harder difficulty not always good
really terrible changes that dont reflect a need for more co-ordination really bad.

Would be interesting to see how many people are actually being affected, and how many people only think they’re being affected.

The psychology behind stuff like this is interesting.

Well I can assure you the DR is buggy.

Doing a dungeon path that ive never done before:
19s 45 tokens and 133k exp (DR’d from normal rewards)
dungeon took an hour.

Waited 2 hours. Did a dungeon path I have done before, but hadnt done for over a week. Midway through the dungeon the dailies reset too, so even if I had done it that very same day I should have gotten the first of the day

19s, 45 tokens and 133k exp

Someone in my party who had never stepped foot in that dungeon before apparently only got 2 tokens.

yeah, DR is a crop of kitten.

Sorrows embrace is the best dungeon imo.

Every path was fun, and a right mix of challenging. Then they nerfed the hell out of inquest to make it crazy to the point where now literally everyone exploits it.

Also slavery could probably have used a tone down to the # of trash.

But beyond that its great. Most of the bosses are fairly memorable. And the mechanics for them are unique pretty much constantly.

All the kudu golems have unique mechanics (the first has a buff that ends then dazes nearby allies. Also lightning that zaps you if you’re near allies. The next one spews fire. The last poisons the ground he walks on)
Forgeman is unique
Inquest path: Nokk is unique. The golems are the same, but you have to fight them all at once. Tazza or whatever is not that interesting but eh.
Military: The guy who quicknesses and stacks bleed is fun. Also tunneling explosions. The destroyer of worlds is amazing (parkour for the win!)
Slavery has the taskmaster which is a good use of environment to harm bosses (I want to see more of this all the time) and the final boss has a mechanic that I havent seen duplicated in guild wars 2 yet. So thats good.

Basically every boss has a unique appearance/skill set. and/or some cool mechanic for fighting them. Trash could certainly stand to be toned down in a few paths. But that can be said of basically every dungeon.

9/10 would do again if I hadnt already done it 30 or so times.

Also the kohler guy is really easy. he has one of the longest telegraphs in the game. You shouldnt be dying to him at all.

So yesterday I “finished” HoTW. I’ve been through story and all 3 explorable paths. But for some reason my explorer title only says ive done 3/4

Sadly the only one I can confirm as having counted is the 3rd path (as thats when it went 3/4 done! and I went lolwut?)

Is there any way to check which paths the game believes you have completed? I’d rather not be forced to do both other explorable paths and the story if I can see which didnt count the first time around.

About me:
Class/level: level 80 ele.
Location/Timezones/Time active: East coast, currently most active around 8am-11pm EST
Age: 19
General disposition: I like to think of myself as outgoing. I’m usually the one cracking jokes (and puns. Lots and lots of puns) during dungeons and events and such. I am however rather dedicated or perhaps “teh hardcorez” as it were.

What im looking for in a guild:
1. Active. My current guild just doesnt have that many people on when I am (and it’s a guild of friends, so we’re not going to be inviting randoms. Thus im guild seeking)
2. Higher level. I’d prefer most guild members to be at least 50+
3. Dungeons. This is why i’d prefer higher level players. I’m really looking to finish up all the dungeon explorable paths (and possibly run a few of them more than once. I’m looking to gear up an alt or two soonish)

You can message me here or ingame if you want to know more about me/think your guild fits the bill (the mail system lets you mail to Zenyatoo.4059 and i’ll get it) Hope to get some replies soon!

I’d rather have a skinnerbox than this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon

The grind to get a legendary weapon is ridiculous. It’s funny, cause I thought Anet hated grinding, what with the anti-farming code and stuff like that.

They stated they didn’t want forced grinding. You don’t have to get that weapon. It’s just a unique skin to show off if you really wanted it.

Are we getting psychology in here?
Because I think you have a textbook case of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome

;)

The fact of the matter is this. As far as you see it, players wanting rewards makes them animals. But that’s faulty logic. They’ll still do exactly what they’re currently doing (which you are implying isnt animal-istic) but they just want extra stuff for it. Which is more materialistic that anything else.

Your comment on Stockholme Syndrome is moot. I can stop playing this game whenever I choose to, there is no one at Anet holding a gun to my head.

Materialistic implies material possessions. Strings of computer code are immaterial.

True enough about Stockholme. But in which case its just general Sycophancy ;0

As for materialistic. Im of the opinion that it can relate to the virtual. They prefer rewards which can be displayed, rather than the value of the actual thing itself.

Dungeons: Just not finding them fun at all.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Zenyatoo.4059

Fun != easy
Fun != hard
Fun != rewards at the end

I think Anet has a problem with the above 3 things.

lets use HoTW to explain this.

For those of you who havent done HoTW explorables you might be a little lost. But for those who have you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Butcher path
1. trash – this is actually fine. They dont have much hp as far as I could tell. A+ job. Make more trash take about this long to kill
2. Bosses – Not so good. The troll is a pushover (no one even went downed, and we werent dodging at all) he’s boring, he smacks you, you dodge or heal, you pew pew. The guy after that whose name I dont even remember because he was that boring didnt do anything either. You just dodged and pew pew.
3. Butcher himself: the fight starts with what appears to be an interesting mechanic. But falls on its face when you realize A. you dont need to break the totems and B. they come back prettykittenfast. The easiest way to beat the boss should not be to ignore his mechanic. Make the totems more effective, but INCREASE their respawn time. Then players will actually feel like fighting them.

plunderer path? I dont even remember what its called:
1. Trash – was mostly fine. The dudes with the hammers are a tad obnoxious though
2. bosses – Again with the boring. The first big one especially. He slows anyone who melees, so get kitten anyone who doesnt have a bow/staff! He barely hits anyone though. Same for his friend (who at least spawned adds) then youve got the guy with the quaggan pets who was almost interesting. But again it was just dodge and dodge and dodge.
3. Final boss – Boring. No one likes fighting underwater. Too much hp, no mechanic for the fight at all besides DPS him, dont stand next to him, and try not to get 1 shot by his dart attack that you cant really see coming. hardest part of this was trying not to fall asleep

Zealot:
trash – again fine
bosses – I dont even remember them. That’s how absolutely forgettable they are. They’re not hard, they’re not fun, they’re not memorable.
final boss – again with the kitteny underwater shenanigans. Too much hp. Adds have too much hp to bother dealing with, and the entire fight is swimming in circles for 20 minutes. Not fun at all.

HoTW is easy. Really easy. You can PuG every path in about an hour. It is however not fun at all. Even getting 60 tokens per run doesnt excite me.

The thing is this though. I dont want it to be “harder” I want it to be more interesting. Bosses need mechanics, or uniqueness. At the very least the end boss should be better than this. 2 underwater end bosses, whose differences are : this one spawns adds. And this one shoots you now and then.

Just plain bad.

large-scale bosses throughout the game, they said

in Dynamic Events

Zenyatoo.4059

Some of them are just far more notable than others

Here’s an average charr leveling path
1-15 plains – the world boss here is hidden in the tomb, and ive seen him done once, despite being in plains quite often.
15-25 diessa – the giant at nageling is about all you’ll get here. Which is hardly a meta event so much as just a typical DE.
25-35 gendarran – Does this place even have a meta event boss? Ive never seen one

35-45 harathi – Woo, first meta boss. And it’s actually pretty fun.

45-55 bloodtide – I’ve been here a bunch and never seen one. You do get champion sharks now and then. But that’s just obnoxious rather than fun imo.
50-60 iron marches (I went back to the charr places because I was now suitably leveled) – Not a whole lot. Most DE’s are bugged. And while there are a few strong things roaming about, I dont think there’s a meta
60-70 fireheart – there’s a few bosses as part of a DE, but I dont think there’s a meta
70-80 frostgorge – Claw of jormag

Depending on your leveling path you can see as few as 3 Meta bosses (and I have my doubts about the one in plains ever being killed during standard play)
it’s not really the best of things.

Give the elementals more hp.
As they currently are, you might as well never use any of them besides earth and fire. Earth can actually take more than 2 hits before dying (sometimes… im looking at you 20k massive AOE dungeon bosses) and fire at least does some damage before it dies.

Give all the elementals earths hp that it has right now. Then double earths. Then it might actually be worth using in dungeons.

Better yet, make the ele invulnerable in tornado/whirlpool. Then I might actually consider using it against things. Otherwise im literally a sitting duck with no utility for its entire duration.

Is Dagger/Dagger Viable for Dungeon Running?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

I use D/D all the time.
My party support usually comes in the form of proc’ing my own combo fields to give them boons, or just attunement switching to give them boons.

as for the fightings, it’s doable. There are a few monsters that are real nasty in melee range, but tbh a lot of the bosses ive had trouble with over my dungeon running use attacks that would hit you at range anyway. There’s probably very few things I would say never to D/D on. Something like icebrood wolves, or well, anything with a leap attack tbh (most wolf monsters) and then some melee bosses like the butcher. Or the forge guy in CoF story.

Tldr; yes you can use D/D and support the party, as well as do fine in dungeons. But pack a staff anyway, because some groups pretty much need you to range them.

Bleed Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Uh well, someone correct me if I am wrong about how bleed stacks interact. But from my understanding

1. each bleed stack is an extra tick of damage per second
2. at 25 stacks of bleed, coming from different sources, the damage is based on the highest condition damage
3. this highest condition damage then gets used 25 times a second, even if the person responsible only put say 8/25 stacks on there.
4. once the bleed duration for the highest damage bleed ends, it goes to the next highest and so on (which may occur, even if the bleed stacks never drop below 25)

the concern is this. Lets say you have 4 necromancers, all who (for the sake of the matter) can apply 25 stacks of bleed.
But one of them has double the condition damage of the other 3.
Lets say his bleeds do 100 and the others all do 50

were this normal damage you would see
25 * 100 = 2500
25 * 50 * 3 = 3750
for 6250 overall damage per second

However without a bleed stack cap (and you assume the necro is constantly re-applying his stronger bleed)
you get 100 ticks per second. Of the 100 damage bleed. For 10,000 overall damage per second.

And this will stack infinitely. Basically the highest condition damage necromancer there, assuming he’s constantly applying his strongest bleeds, will be upping everyone’s bleed damage at a rather crazy rate. Something that doesnt happen with normal DPS.

Now I do agree that it’s kind of stupid for necromancers during world boss fights, or even events to get credit (as your bleeds wont give you the damage to get credit). Anet needs to find some way to change that, but I believe that removing the bleed stacking isnt the answer. At least not entirely. I could certainly see upping it to 50, 75, or even 100 on world bosses, despite the stacking principles.

For me I think the only concern I have is that it’s a great experience.
The first time you do it.
And honestly only that first time.

Right now my choices for leveling an alt are
1. repeat the same vistas, renown hearts, POI’s and explorations ive already done (first char has 85% world completion, and all the zones I dont have are higher level)
2. Slog through WvWvW with an upscaled character, which is genuinely unfun for me. Especially seeing as my server is currently on the backfoot which means if im playing my weaker character im being a detriment to my server.
3. craft. This is really the best option, but it either requires money or farming materials

I cant really do anything else. I cant run dungeons because DR. I cant grind monsters because fights are slow, and training in earlier area’s is much harder. I could run around looking for DE’s but that’s kind of obnoxious. Now, you might say “well its still better than other MMO’s” but the answer is no it really isnt. In other mmo’s they’re vastly aware of the grind, and they do all they can to make it fun. And I much prefer being able to just turn my brain off for 2-3 hours and find that i’ve gained tons of levels, than have to re-experience the same content twice, in a manner that’s just kind of unsatisfying.

as for specific endgame I dunno. There’s lots to do at 80. But quite a lot of it is A. grind intensive and B. then disadvantages you for that grind…

You say not to mix lore and mechanics, yet the reason why Rurik is a “nitwit” (and the reason why he’s disliked – same goes for Kormir, Togo, and Mhenlo in fact) is solely/primarily due to mechanics. :p

I hated him long before the irritations with his tendency to run off without the party. The person who does his VO just…irked me. His lines had a tendency to sound entirely too wishy-washy as well. Something about him just sets people off, I think, beyond the mechanics.

Kormir and Mhenlo also get the vote in my books as being crazy annoying right after Rurik, simply because of how they come across. Kormir is blinded. She then proceeds to do absolutely nothing up until Abaddon needs killin’. Mhenlo is just presented as this amazing wonderful faultless dude who just happens to have way too many adoring fangirls.

Togo though. Togo was awesome.

Kormir was like

gets rescued by us breaking into the most heavily guarded fort in the world

gets rescued by us breaking into what is literally hell.
becomes a literal useless npc (she doesnt fight)

The problem is with 5 people you are often hit by poison or nightmares that you didnt/couldnt see were behind you. with a smaller group, say 2-3 people its much easier to survive. Simply kite in a circle, and every now and then run into brangoire, drop some AOE’s and run out again.

Did the explorable sub path.

My only complaint was the third alpha fight he decided to stand in a corner by the boxes.

This made it impossible to stand behind him.

Which made it impossible to dodge the earth spike attack he does (the telegraph on this means you are taking damage from it unless you’re at a super long range, or behind him. Both of which are impossible for melee players)

Which made it super dumb.

Honestly the purple crystal is fine. The dragon tooth is fine. The flames around him are A-ok. But jesus, give that earth tooth move an extra half second of telegraph before it smacks you for 10k. That’s all im asking anet.

Don't allow server transfers between servers currently matched

I am a fellow member of Fort Aspenwood, and as such, we know much about the strategies of living while secluded behind large walls and gates. Our intelligence also has good reason to always suspect despicable sea-dwelling pirate scum (like Isle of Janthir and Sea of Sorrows) of intentionally traitorous and cowardly acts. Our true means of knowing this shall not be revealed to others. You could say that the forests of our groves have an eternal living conciousness imbued within them that tells us many things.

Limiting server transfers is a good idea, but not strong enough. People in major guilds will always have multi-accounters, and some of them will be obsessed enough to have spies residing on the servers of stronger enemies in advance of the matchup. The most reliable way I can come up with to detect this form of espionage is to also use something like the log that keeps track of Guild Bank deposits; to use it to document the names of people withdrawing supply from strategic camps.

Fort Aspenwood’s previous enemies have always resorted to acts of deception upon realization that they could never breach our great fortress and it’s amber gates. Living in a fort for so long, we have learned the value in keeping ledgers of our supplies so as to not allow the enclosed confines to deepen mistrust. This way, we don’t have to live within an era of accusation, where any unaware newb who’s seen making a withdrawal from the wrong camp gets blacklisted for being a spy.

Ripping on your opponents is one way to cause bad blood between them. I’m on IoJ and can say that FA has put up a great fight and certainly isn’t a push over. And I find it rather ironic that you, FA dweller, accuses IoJ of cowardly acts when on multiple occasions FA has flight hacked out orbs we legitimately took from our keeps. I’m not accusing the entire server, just find that a bit laughable.

Keep in mind, IoJ and SoS has a larger oceanic presence and it is when we put up the biggest fight. And since the start of this last match up, we’ve had some NA join us to help us against other NA primetime.

you never played the first guild wars did you?

He’s making a really long Kurzick vs luxon pun. And specifically Fort aspenwood (which was a pvp area in GW1) reference.

Where do I get Corrupted Cores/Lodestones?

in Players Helping Players

Corrupted lodestone and cores both are drops in HoTW explorable.

I know I got ~3 cores from the zealot path, and someone in my party pinged a corrupted lodestone that they said they got.

Im not sure if it came from a chest, or if it just dropped.

My guild leader believes it comes from the icebrood elementals. So if you want, hang around frostgorge till claw of jormag shows up, throw on your MF gear, and then fight the icebrood elementals that spawn near the crystals he throws about. See if that helps.

We have lots of raid content.

They need more stages. And also more interesting fights.

Champion of jormag and the corrupted worm are toe’ing the line into the right.

Jormag has an interesting fight, in 2 phases, with different ways to fight him, plenty of opportunity for every class to help out, and more than just “smack a dragon toe all day” Now, it could still stand to be improved (there’s still some dragon toenails that needed vanquishing) but it’s getting there.

The jungle worm gets the DE’s before the fight correct. There are several DE’s before it based around discovering and then triggering the fight. Jormag does something similar, but not really, as the crystals at the start are part of what he does, and it’s the same 5 DE"s in a row. The centaur at harathi is similar. You have to take every base, then hold out, then assault, then kill his pets, then kill him, then hold out again. It’s very much a long chain that spans most of the zone.

Basically if you want to consider these “raids” i’d say they need
1. larger DE chain leading up to them
2. More interesting fight

Example of doing it totally wrong:
Tequatl – no DE’s prior, entire fight is just hitting his feet (using the cannons isnt effective at all compared to just hitting the toenail)

Golem Army Counter Strategy

Golems are for attacks the enemies dont expect you to make.

I’ve thrown down a golem at cragtop, we rush built it, and then marched on the nearby garrison. There were 7 of us. We made it into the keep lord room before we met any real resistance. (the gates were reinforced or we’d have taken the keep)

The enemy just did not expect anyone to attack into their garrison like that. Full supply, with at least 2 camps nearby to feed it, reinforced gates, and our zerg on the other side of the map.

If we had about 5 more people we probably would have taken the keep with it.

basically golems are only good for surgical strikes done by small groups.

Get 10 people, raid a supply camp, build a golem and head for the nearest tower, watch how much easier it is to take than using a golem in a 30 man zerg on a well defended objective.

Mordramoth

Zenyatoo.4059

So uh, I just did CoE explorable for the first time, and one of the bosses is called Subject alpha. He’s equipped with a few skills, but a couple of them stood out.

For those that dont know, CoE is in an inquest base that’s basically researching/utilizing draconic energies. And a lot of the fights in there are against dragon minions, or bosses who share dragon themes.

Back to subject alpha. He has 2 skills of note:
Teeth of Primordus
Teeth of Mordramoth

there’s also another boss which uses something like
Teeth of Jormag
(Note: might be fang or claw of Jormag, I didnt look beyond the Jormag name, and I didnt think to get an SS of it)

Obviously these attacks are named for the Elder dragons.
Which begs the question: Who the heck is Mordramoth?
The attack causes several earth spikes to pop out of the ground. So I’d assume it’s an elder dragon relating to earth. Perhaps the unnamed 6th dragon that’s alluded to by sector green? Any thoughts?

Boring Pull/Aggro/Range Exploits

Ive only done the up path. But this is what I have to say on the matter

1. Ive never seen anyone do the log trick. I find standing ontop of the wurm to be a cakewalk compared to any other strategy

2. running through is really just because trash mobs have WAY to much hp, and it’s so much easier to just not fight them.

3. the spider boss is a bug I would guess, but players shouldnt be punished for wanting to fight her in the tunnel. Just make her able to fight back

4. The nightmare tree’s problem is that his attacks are slightly larger than D/D ele range (I have no clue what this range is called. But it’s between normal melee and shortbow range) which means melee classes get the normal fight, and ranged ones get to pew pew pew. Also, he summons these mortar things, but he has a tendency to spawn a few of them behind him, where they dont do any damage because they’re not close enough. Eventually all his mortar spawns are allotted by those in the back, and cant do kitten. make it so they stop spawning behind him.

5. a few mobs have stability (some archers have it) which makes them unable to move, and thus prime targets to be skipped. consider removing?

Champion of Orr, King Reza gave it to me!!

Ah see. Those “giants” are actually risen.

Anything with risen in the name automatically counts as risen.

As someone with 3 giants killed, I believe those came from 2 kills of the giant in diessa that attacks naegling, and 1 kol whatever in harathi.
