That legendary sword and the pale tree

My favorite part about the sword is this.

It’s a LEGENDARY sylvari weapon. AS in, their masterpiece of sylvari weaponry, powerful, magical, the whole shebang, known far and wide by sylvari.

And not a single person noticed it in the hands of Waine (who as jat tells you was using it in the gladitorial combats for quite some time) until after you show up?

What the hell were the sylvari doing the entire time it was gone?

Isle of Janthir – 38,410 (425)
Sea of Sorrows – 25,048 (120)
Fort Aspenwood – 20,936 (155)

Fighting was intense last night and I expect it to pick up again, but it seems FA buckled across the board.

Most of the organized night crew (including our commander) were offline. We all had stuff to do this weekend sadly.

Also to be completely honest I think FA got sent up too high in the brackets. The last time we faced janthir and sea we got thrashed, and I dont think our server has gotten much better overall.

Still, until the bracket change I think it’ll be reasonably fun. Better than a complete lopsided stomp at least.

Yeah, this guy had it out for me when I did this. (at one point I vapor formed, into the next room over, and hid in a corner, only for him to decide that he wanted to come play hide and shotgun with me)

The most annoying thing I found was how I could be literally behind him, and inbetween us would be a godkittensolid post, and then he, shooting forward, would still somehow hit me.

But yes anyone can tank that boss if you can stay behind him and lag/messy hitboxes dont screw you over.

@ noxin

that is because the other 2 runs are bad

the superweapon path involves a ridiculously tuned boss fight that requires a specific party setup, and for no one to screw up at all or the fight gets completely reset.

And the other path is 100% bugged and never gives the end reward, making it impossible to get the actual tokens from it.

How do ticks work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

As I mentioned earlier, you could have 13 ticks of bleed per second, or 7, or 2, or if you use other skills perhaps you only get 1 tick of damage per second (with say, lava font or something)

Basically it varies on what situation it’s used in.

Don’t the ticks of a single condition (no matter the number of stacks) happen at the same time? Otherwise I’m seeing some performance issues in there.

If you’re referring to my comment about the 13, 7 or 2, then I was specifically meaning that if you have 2 stacks of bleed you’re going to have 2 ticks per second. Rather than you get a random amount of ticks per second based on performance.

However, no, im pretty sure the damage ticks happen separately during the second, rather than all at once (at least, that’s how the damage numbers appear on my screen)

Not sure what you mean by “mud bricks”, but I am spending all my money on the materials to make Mystic Chests.

Since they will be extremely rare in the future, they will go for tons of money.

I plan to profit on it sometime in the future.

It’s in reference to a guild wars 1 thing.

They were removed from the game on May 29, 2008.

I was making a joke that players should do what you just said you were going to do, that is, stock up on an item that’s about to go exclusive.

It’s exclusionary sure. But absolutely nothing is stopping you from making your own groups.

The system wouldnt exist if it didnt work. And it does work. It provides a way for players to group with other players who they KNOW have at least a rudimentary knowledge of what they’re about to attempt and do. Now, some players may find that they have more fun with a random group of first timers. But there are some times where I just want to get through what I wanted to get through (Those last 60 tokens for my SE helmet for instance) and at that point these types of groups are a godsend. No mucking about with a PuG which may fail because of one guy who has never done the run before.

If you enjoy the random aspect of playing with people who might be first timers, or whose relative skill level you can never be sure of that’s well and good. But please dont call someone else closed minded because they’d prefer to be sure they’re getting “good” players.

It’s like if a restaurant tells you that they need you to have 2 years of cooking experience before they’ll let you be a chef there. You can call them closed minded all you want, but they want the person who they KNOW has some experience doing what they intend for you to do.

So you’re saying that the dungeons are equivalent to a job?

It’s an analogy?

The group in this case is the restaurant. They want someone to fulfill a role (or in GW2, a party slot, as roles are sort of non-existant now) and they’re looking for someone with at least some level of experience so that they know there’s a lower chance you’ll mess it up.

You can disagree or hate it all you want. But if you cant see why players do it, or why it can and does work beyond “lol WoW players, gb2 WoW” then there’s really no hope for you.

Running. Really fast.

Alternatively, search for the Dynamic events. One of them involves helping NPC’s cross the map IIRC. This will allow you to travel with a large convoy which may help mitigate some of the burdens of traveling. It also uncontests certain waypoints, which means at every stop you can call more players to come help.

Zenyatoo.4059

I feel similar. However there are certain aspects which will get better at higher levels

“You don’t see groups of people roving around together.”

This changes a little in certain zones where specific large Dynamic event chains can be found. My first experience with this was harathi hinterlands. There is a large dynamic event chain that begins with several small events scattered around the entire zone. Once these are fulfilled a much larger event starts at one specific spot. This leads into another and another, before culminating with a large world boss fight.

World boss fights are also another slightly more social aspect. You can often miss out on them in starting zones (especially ones such as caledon forest, plains of ashford, or the norn starting zone) because they arent called out. However once you reach later zones, plenty of players will be asking or responding to when they occur, and when they do, its not unlikely to see about 5 players calling for assistance, and then a giant fight with 40+ people happening in 1 location.

AS for the renown heart system, I believe a dev commented something like this on the situation (Note: I may be remembering horribly wrong, so sorry to any Anet dev who reads this and thinks im a loon)
“We wanted to not have them. We wanted a scenario where a player would run by an npc standing near a burning house, and feel compelled to ask what was going on, which would then enable them to help out. But we ran into trouble, our playtesters kept asking us where they were meant to go. We could tell them ‘run, explore, discover’ but they were constantly looking for an NPC with a glowing mark over his head”

So basically they wanted to have a much different quest system, but it was deemed to be too complex? Unobtrusive maybe. For the average player.

Have you tried pointing out to them that you represent them while doing the thing which is the reason you joined them in the first place? (I assume you are, otherwise what the heck are you even in there for?)

I know I currently represent my guild full of friends until I reach WvWvW where I represent my WvWvW guild.

Activities (the things that give you influence) are based on a few things, Dungeons, Events, and PvP matches.

If you’ve joined a guild that specifically mentioned it was based around something like SPvP, then they shouldnt get mad when you represent a different guild while doing say, dungeons. If they do get mad, then it’s time to find a new guild that understands that if they want to niche themselves, then they’re only going to get people representing them when they’re fulfilling that niche activity.

The true problem with the elementalist

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Highest skill ceiling.

In a game based around the most skilled player winning having a class with a significantly higher skill ceiling means that less skilled players will frequently beat more skilled players simply because their class is easier to play.

This goes for PvE too. Why take an ele when he’ll need to be twice as good as the nearest ranger to be as effective?

This is really the main issue.
You can debate about whether they’re specifically underpowered in certain areas. But at the end of the day, it’s just a more complicated class which means its outmatched by everything else.

How do ticks work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

If you are talking specifically about conditions in GW2 then no.
When players refer to a “tick” of damage, they mean everytime their condition is damaging a monster. In this case, one tick is one stack of the condition per second. (Thus, 13 stacks of bleed gives you 13 ticks of damage per second while that 13 stacks of bleed is active)

Some other skills only tick once per second and so on.

Ticks can change radically based on the skill being used.

As I mentioned earlier, you could have 13 ticks of bleed per second, or 7, or 2, or if you use other skills perhaps you only get 1 tick of damage per second (with say, lava font or something)

Basically it varies on what situation it’s used in.

I Love, Casting/Ranged style over Melee style combat.

Ranger

I love AOE,DOT style over direct mass damage.

AOE is elementalist. DoT would be either elementalist or Necromancer

I like to buff and support my group members.

Elementalist or Guardian

I like a Tank Pet/s

Ranger. Elementalist have two, but only 1 of them is really that tanky, and tbh even then not really.

I dislike DYING 100 times in a row to complete a quest

Any class can do this just fine

Having a low HP pool,

Avoid Elemenalist or Thief.

complicated class that requires extensive hard to understand rotations and builds.

Avoid Elementalist

I dont really know what to tell you. Elementalists cover pretty much all your likes and dislikes at the same time.

I think you might be leaning more towards Ranger or Necromancer based on your other Specifications. I would suggest maybe trying a ranger who uses a shortbow/longbow as a primary damage weapon, then perhaps an Axe+warhorn as a secondary (axes are ranged, and the warhorn lets you buff allies) The ranger shortbow also lets you stack bleed and poison on targets, so that might fit into your DoT specifications.

If you dont mind having a low hp pool/complicated class, Elementalist fits all the other bills

longrange, lots of AOE’s, plenty of DOT’s (bleeds and burns out thekitten and an entire attunement dedicated to supporting teammates (water) not to mention they have a variety of combo fields and ways to trigger their own combo’s, which allows you to quickly stack up boons (buffs) for your party. The only concern is that they have the lowest base health in the game, and 20 skills, each with their own internal cooldowns, and a global cooldowns per 5 skills based on which attunement you’re swapping into, making them probably the most complicated class besides perhaps mesmer.

Toughness, condition damage, vitality if you can find it. At least that’s what I used. It was heavily based around surviving and bleeding things out. It worked fine in PvE simply because churning was more than enough to wipe groups of monsters quickly without needing power/precision. But in dungeons I really wanted the toughness/vit to survive.

I ditched it in the end for something that actually turned out to have a bit more utility regarding survival and team effort.

charr light armor:
Headpiece: Not a lot you can do here. I use the SE headpiece because I love the gasmask look, and although removal of the horns isnt the best solution, it does remove lots of clipping concerns.

Body: ive found most of these are good tbh. I went with the SE one again because I didnt feel like paying money for an exotic, and its decent light armor (metal rather than cloth)

Mantle: Ive found a couple that were ok, but as soon as Anet fixes them im getting the SE ones. They float off your shoulders, so there’s no clipping issues at all, they also look cool.

Leggings: By far the most obnoxious thing. I picked up the CoF leggings just because they didnt clip, and the molten tail is a cool addition.

Gloves: Most gloves are perfectly fine tbh.

Boots: Another problem for me because I couldnt stand the exposed toes, had to go with CoF boots for this.

Charr armor really needs some work.

now let’s take, for example, earth element power/toughness/vitality 0/0/30/15/25 dual dagger elementalist instead. you can still crit churning earth for 4.5k damage + another 4.5k bleeding. your fire’s 5 ability is instant and can hit for almost 4k damage. your fire and earth autos still deal 900 damage a pop, you’ve got 3 range closers and 2 knockdowns as well as a snare, you have much more chances to inflict burning and bleeding on opponents…. and with a far less squishy build, i can oftentimes take 20 autoattack hits before i’m downed. how many can you take? 6? 7? i haven’t been killed by a non-champion mob for over week (when i don’t AFK in a stupid place, at least).

I like your build. Can you link what kind of Major Traits you took?

Also, how do you afford to do the super slow churning earth? Don’t you stand still and get hit while you do that channeling move?

I use a similar, but more widespread build. However, I tried a D/D 30 earth build before, and in regardless to channeling churning.
1. learn its max range and try and stand far away
2. Arcane shield is your friend.
3. With the bonus 300 toughness, and if you get it, the toughness while channeling trait, you can tank long enough to drop the churning.

Im not too sure exactly why you need ranged defense as D/D
Ive been using D/D for a good 200 hours now. Ranged opponents have never been an issue ever.
Now, the defensive capabilities of it are somewhat lacking, but…

1v1 – Ride the lightning, magnetic grasp or whatever its called (earth 3) and fire 3, all are great gap closers. Once you’re near them then there’s no reason you cant rely on your more short range defense (frost aura, earthquake, and shock aura)

1v2, or any fight involving multiple opponents – Again you can try and close the gap between them, ride the lightning still gets you moving. And if you’re getting pummeled by 3+ people it might be time to press 5, X (about face for my setup) double click the ground, and then ride the lightning out of there.

switch to air
4, 5, 3
switch to fire
2 (or 1 if my sigil has proc’d) then 5

switching to water at any point if I need the healings

Elementalist is one of the few classes that can lay down, and their proc their own combo fields with ease (the combo I listed above uses 2 fields and procs them 3 times)

Also, do dungeons and tell me you arent having to switch to water several times a fight.

pfft all I know is FA totally owned that orb last night, I believe it was IoJ’s. Seas of Sorrows decided to keep attacking our single tower for most of the night too until they finally woke up and took AB while we defended the orb. Quite obvious no one is ganging up on anyone else. Also keeping tabs on eternal as we played last night and that looked amazingly equal and all over the place. In the end, FA totally won in IoJ borderlands imho but the scores were within 100 points for most of the night overall.

Yeah I havent gotten to play over the night which is my usual time. Why don't dolyaks give rewards?

in WvW

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Give diminishing returns to escorting dolyaks.
After say, 5 escorts, you cant get money/exp/karma from escorting another dolyak for an hour or so. Make it so that every 20 minutes that you arent escorting a dolyak (when not at the 5 escort cap) you can escort another one.

For example:
Johnny escorts 5 dolyaks in 20 minutes. He is then unable to get rewards for the next 60 minutes.
Bill escorts 4 dolyaks, then defends Ascension bay for an hour. He can now escort 3 more dolyaks before reaching his cap.

This way players can be rewarded for ensuring supplies make it to the keep/tower/SMC, but at the same time, you wont have 30 people humping them all day long.

Both of those classes will be near you during the fightings, and also able to buff you consistantly (I know on my ele I could be giving people ~12 stacks of might, fury, and protection if they were near me [near meaning melee range] )

Guardians on the other hand can load you up with boons too, and well as heal real nice like. And unless he rolls one of the longer range weapons, again, you’ll both be close enough to each other to share effects of any supportive AOE’s

Dragonbrand 46972 Fort Aspenwood 45628 Crystal Desert 129683
Ehmry Bay 38490 Dragonbrand 44623 Fort Aspenwood 139998

We’ve fought maguuma at least once before. And we were winning when I went to bed, but my guildy said we lost. So i’ll take them as being higher as valid.

however, tarnished got creamed by us. And while we’re tied on wins with dragonbrand, our loss to them was crystal desert more than anything, as seen by our devastating victory the second time around.

The FA brackets have just been so sad. Right out the starting gate we fought JQ…
Then after our win we had to face crystal desert and bounced down again
After that win we had to face janthir… Then it decided we were still totally good enough to face sorrows… (Note how both janthir and sorrows are above crystal desert. So we lost to crystal, won 1 match and suddenly the brackets thought it was totally cool to back to back us against teams above the people who just got done creaming us)
Then it decides to send us against crystal desert AGAIN
At which point we finally get some matchups we can win (2 of them)
before it says “hey aspenwood, know who you havent fought in a while? CRYSTAL DEEEEESEEEERT”

Its like, every time we start to do good it just decides to lump us against CD and drop us down some more.

part of the FA discepency is certainly numbers, as I dont think I see players in our borderlands at night unless they have the outmanned buff. SF and Rall borderlands are a little more even, but there’s a point where we have 2 golems at once gate entrance, 3 rams at another, and then 2 rams and a catapult at yet another entrance into the same keep…

However I would like to say that the players during the night are far more co-ordinated. The “zerg” of about 30-40 people we have actually follows instructions, and there are a few people who are gaining… is notoriety the right word? Fame maybe? Notice basically as being able leaders/planners during night.

There are also about 4 commanders that ive seen, all of whom play during day hours (we have none at night)
Ive only seen one of them actually in WvWvW.
His resume includes, but is probably (sadly) not limited to
1. building a ram with oil still up
2. building a catapult INSIDE an enemy meteor shower and then wondering why we werent building it
3. building a trebuchet ontop of a wall that was being hit by an enemy trebuchet, then leaving it to go smack a gate with his sword for 5 minutes, only to come back and wonder why his treb had “vanished”
4. Jumping off a cliff with about 10 people following him to their deaths.

Frankly im a little worried that we’re going to get stomped during the day time next bracket matchup :/

Fort Aspenwood
Dragonbrand
Maguuma maybe?
Im pretty sure those first two are set in stone though. Similar ranking, and we’re both winning.

They are meant to be long-term achievements that very few people, if any, get. It’s why they’re called “Ultimate . . .”

I dont think you quite understand how completely impossible it is.

This isnt long term
this is Anet will have shut down the GW2 servers before anyone gets them

So uh, having been comparing my current WvWvW achievement progress to the values listed at the GW2DB (which have been accurate for every achievement so far, and appear to be accurate for the WvWvW one)

Who the actual hell thought these were doable?

The last rank of Stonemist stands firm again is 500,000 defenses.
Defenses can only happen once every 3 minutes
this is 1.5million minutes
that’s 25,000 hours of nothing but defending stonemist.
1042 days of nothing but defending SMC
2.8 years assuming that you get a defense credit every 3 minutes with literally no stops at all.

There’s also 3 titles tracks that require the same amount of time, but you need to do it for keeps, towers, and supply camps.

One of them requires you to have captured 1 million objectives.
Even at an objective per minute that’s ~17,000 hours

Are these achievements actually meant to be doable?

The defense thing is because you weren’t receiving credit I guess? Defenses happen every 3 minutes at set circumstances (a gate, wall, or NPC must be under attack/Have taken damage) If you had been in defense events for an hour you should have finished 20 defense events. Also lower level characters should focus on repairing walls or manning siege when it comes to defense. Not only do you get bonus exp for repairing walls/gates. But its much easier gold medal credit. (not to mention you’re more useful, as upscaled players tickle level 80’s)

Regarding the player kills, sometimes its just a little weird and doesnt want to give you credit for the kill. Ive had times where ive done at least 60% of the enemies hp and gotten no credit, and times when ive finished them off via the F command and gotten no credit, but also times where ill hit someone once with a single tick of an AOE and get full credit.

It’s fully possible to get reasonable exp as a low level, but dont expect it to be very fast.

Mystic. Cheapest overall cost if you’re looking to get ectoplasm.
