CoF explo route 1: Legendary Siering Effigy

Zenyatoo.4059

The amount of people that are crying about CoF 1st route boss is too kitten high. There were like 10 threads, or even more about this so far, and in EVERY one of them people explain how to beat him in pretty easy way.

And besides that: Anet said that dungeons on explorable mode ARE MEANT to be HARD, and ment to REQUIRE TACTICS aswell as good TEAM COMPOSITION. It’s not meant to be doable by every class combination.

require tactics?
Such as completely ignoring the boss mechanic? Yeah no. That’s bad dungeon design.

Good team composition?
So you pretty much have to roll guardians, mesmer, necro, thief, warrior to do it because of their burst, stability, poison, or time warp being far better than any other class? That hardly fits the idea of not requiring certain class combinations (something anet stressed they wanted to achieve)

I think it’s time you re-evaluated what you think is right and what is wrong.

Yes the dungeon is doable
No it is not “easy” (as someone who has 100%‘d 6/8 dungeons i’m quite aware of what is and isnt easy when it comes to them)
and it is CERTAINLY not designed properly at the current moment.

Fort Aspenwood vs DragonBrand vs Blackgate

in WvW

Zenyatoo.4059

This was a fun matchup I thought so far. Some things I noticed I thought were pretty interesting took place in FA Borderland.

Coron The Moron decided to give the ORB to Blackgate in one of the hardest keeps to take.

FA took DB from us, as Blackgate took Green Briar from us, then both teams pushed us from opposite sides at the spawn entrance. At no point did they attack each other. We leave our spawn point.

Blackgate didn’t bother attack FA. We actually took the 15 people left on our server up to Cliffside to hopefully steal it, and pull in action since getting farmed from FA and BG at the spawn isn’t exactly a fun idea. FA held the fort as we couldn’t pull it off against all the siege and players they had there.

7:30 AM Dragonbrand players were talking about just giving up a Fortified Dreaming Bay so the alter would reset.. 10 AM I wake up, and we gave up everything on the map.

Overall, I say we’ve had constant pressure from both servers on this map, even when we had nothing, both servers never let up!.

“At no point did they attack each other. "

That is horribly horribly incorrect. Unless you mean while the servers were taking things.

Which is mostly correct. BG was sweeping from the south and we were sweeping from the north. Both teams were simply hitting what was vulnerable to them. Both the garrisons besides DB are fully upgrades, and BG’s one was giving them every guild buff in the book.

After we took DB we then had to immediately throw our entire zerg to the south wall defence, keeping it up with a minimal 5% hp on the gate. From then on it was a 2-4hour tug of war. With one side sieging the respective tower/keep of the other (DB or greenbriar) and failing. After a bit I think most of BG left to go defend their borderlands (which Dragon brand was steadily taking) and we ended up sweeping greenbriar to bluelake.

Dragonbrands main issue was that you were outmanned, and had the far more vulnerable keep. making you our prime targets. Blackgate on the other hand saw either taking 2 towers and 3 supply camps. from the south (which you will note is where they can spawn) or attacking the heavily defended aspenwood garrison which had at least 30 people ready to teleport back and defend it.

ele is probably the fastest. Safest probably not though.

10% from 5 air
25% from 10 air
10% from signet of air
15% from windborne dagger in uh, I think 20 arcana?

Get a staff and D/D. switch to air (swiftness with elemental attunement) press 4 to get more swiftness. Change to D/D and then ride the lightning. Use glyph of elemental harmony for additional swiftness as desired.

You can also speed up nearby yaks as you move on through with the staff or attunement swapping.

Yea, I know you can see it while they’re in your party/on your friends list, but I agree with Bluestone. Oh I have 1700, he has 800. Booyeah…. Also, geez, I am not trying to impress my friends!!

In other words, they aren’t public like titles. More so than “public” though, the GW1 titles had really funny names, and were achieved by doing a variety of interesting things. When you saw someone with a neat title on, you thought — hey, which title is that? Or, at the very least, it tells you something about what they enjoyed in the game – minigames, pve, pvp, etc. Some were truly feats, like I mentioned (the drunkard title in GW1 was very hard to get prior to the change in the last 6 months or so).

Also for completionists its a very satisfying feature… the achievements physically can’t be ‘completed’ because 1) Some are repeatable 2) Agent of entropy can be gotten infinite times 3) even with 5 character slots you cannot do all the story paths.

When I posted in the suggestions forum, someone said there were hidden achievements. Can anyone confirm that, or was he just making stuff up?

I have found at least 1 hidden achievement so far.
I’ve obtained “Speedy reader” which had an explorer icon for it. But obviously isnt on the list.

I dont really recall this one being too hard.

For starters the first golems out are non silvers. So you should be able to drop those almost instantly. Then you just kind of pick a target and roll with it. Worst case scenario you kite it out. The first time we did this zojja dropped to 10% hp because I didnt notice she had aggro. Me and my friend rolled into her and dropped some heals and she was fine for the last 15% or so she needed to do. SO just make sure you can either heal her, or keep aggro off her.

I saw a few notes in here about dungeon difficulty. I’m just going to say this.

ive got 6/8 dungeons 100% completed. The only two I dont have are arah and CoF. Arah because ive never tried, and CoF because path 3 cant be done with your average pug, and no one wants to do path 1.

I have pugged every explorable path in all the other dungeons.

We got through them.

Usually in under 2 hours.

to me that says the difficulty is fine.
Now, most of that really wasnt fun, and there are a horde of problems with dungeons. But the difficulty right now really isnt one of them.

silvers only spawn once per trigger that you do it.

Elementalists can easily avoid being hit while hacking using arcane shield and mist form. I assume something like a thief can probably haste + stealth himself and do it pretty kitten fast to.

Dont hack twice in a row unless you want to deal with lots of silvers along with the bombs.

First of all theres a “safespot” for each of the torches were you can stand without aggroing the 3 monsters you are supposed to kill. Once everyone is in his safespot. Wait till all monsters have spawned. Let the “leader” type GO and everyone kills them, if you feel you got alot of DPS and feel good about it just wait like 3 seconds longer so the weaker players finish around the same time

Once your monsters are dead let everyone type clear in chat

once 5 clears have been spotted let the leader count to 3

1 2
3 => the signal that everyone can start channeling his torch,

tried this a few days ago.

I have this to say
1. dont do this dungeon if your build is based around little to no hard DPS. We had a necromancer who we had to keep giving a good 15 second or so headstart because otherwise he wouldnt finish near the rest of us. (and for some reason he refused to take the torch with no monsters) this made syncing up hard

2. lightning the torch can be interupted by any attack. Always mind your surroundings while doing it. If you’ve got something like arcane shield or mist form get ready to use them. I cant tell you how frustrated I was seeing 4/5 torches lit, 3 seconds to go, and my torch lighting being cancelled at the very last second by a rogue imp that had patrolled into me.

3. while I appreciate the design Anet, can we get like an extra 2 seconds on the time the torches stay lit? As it stands even with one of the most coordinated groups Ive been in, we gave up after the 20th or so try. Over half of which were 4/5 torches lit.

I’ll stop skipping monsters when they stop having ludicrous health, and drop nothing good.

In all seriousness even if I was doing a proper run with guildies we’d probably still skip some trash. it’s simply MUCH easier. My teams chance of survival increases for every monster we skip. Simply because it’s easier to dodge damage if you’re constantly moving and prepared to pop all your survivability skills, and dont have to stop to DPS. That’s just basic common sense.

to anet. If you want me to do your content, either make it fun or rewarding for me to do so. Currently, killing trash monsters is neither.

Level and Gear

in WvW

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

When you are upscaled it upscales your base attributes to that of level 80. But from my understanding it does nothing for your gear.

This means a level 30 in blues has about 700+ less attributes than a level 80 in exotics. Which is why they deal 4k’s to you and you deal 300’s to them. Obviously as you level up this discrepancy decreases, as the gap between your gear and theirs gets smaller and smaller.

TBH I wouldnt expect much until you’re at least level 60.

Why does no one do CoE?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

@ plasma
This is what I run. And tbh it’s really not optimal for CoE because it’s my D/D build and I ended up using a staff. But it still works for tele alpha.

10 air (with 20% faster glyphs)
30 arcana (elemental attunement, whatever the 33% vig on crit is called, and evasive arcana)
10 earth (armor of earth at 50% hp)
20 water (cleansing wave and the cantrip mastery)
Utilities are arcane shield, lightning flash and mist form
Ultimate is elemental (im a charr. Other races may have better options)

Basic strategy for alpha includes switching between air water and earth. Water for heals, earth for the protection buff and weakening him, and air for swiftness. (with a staff that is, so you can stay at a range)

When you’re doing the teleporter path his attacks are the teeth of primordius, which has a long telegraph between red circle appearing and tooth dropping. And teeth of jormag which is the one that covers the room. Both of these can be avoided by running out of them or dodge rolling at the right time. Easily accomplished with swiftness or vigor. If you have to take a hit, use protection, I had around 16k hp doing this, so unless I got hit by overlapping jormags I could usually take 1 of those.

when alpha puts you in a crystal
1. DONT PANIC
2. Look at alpha. See what he’s doing. Usually when alpha puts you in the crystal he follows a set attack pattern: he’ll run up to the crystal, smack you a few times (on me this did a paltry 2k damage) sometimes he’ll fart out fire everywhere which again tickled. Then and only then will he consider busting out a stronger attack
3. When you see a red circle under you, either jormag or primodius it’s time to move. Always use lightning flash first if it’s up. It comes back faster, and it’s a guaranteed escape
4. if your lightning flash is down, a combination of arcane shield and mist form usually sees you through. Remember, arcane shield only blocks 3 hits. if there are overlapped jormags then they will probably still hit you. Mist form can block infinity jormags while it’s up, so it’s usually the safer choice if he’s doing that to you.

The crystals wear out over time, so you can break out simply by surviving rather than escaping.

as for other general tips: Consider making some fire salsa. This gives 100% more downed health, and extra damage while downed. If you go downed, tab around to find an undead tendril and try and kill it. You’ll rally if you do.

The thing I dislike most about the dungeon is that when you’re an Elementalist and time you dodge just a little bit wrong, you die at Project Alpha.

So even if I get it right 9 out of 10 times, I still get blow up a lot.

And even that would’t be so bad if I didn’t have to run back for 5 minutes. Waypoints placement ftl.

as an ele I lived longer than everyone in my group all 3 times I did CoE. Honestly ele has it made for alpha. mist form, arcane shield and lightning flash? I used to love getting stuck in the crystals because then I could just tank while he stood in front of me as my party wailed on him.

Also swiftness comes easy for ele, as do heals.

The only class that might have it easier is mesmer tbh.

Zenyatoo.4059

Well for starters, AC and CM are really not good intro dungeons imo. They’re cramped, they cluster…felined and most bosses dont really have set strategies.

Wait until you get to 50 and do TA. That’s imo the first real dungeon. Then after that you’ve got SE which is probably my favorite dungeon.

AS for general tips. Look over yours and your friend skills to find what combo’s you can make.
(a combo is made by 1 combo field, and then 1 finisher of any kind [leap, whirl, projectile ETC] combo’s can make a huge difference in fights)

I’d also consider looking over your utility skills, and maybe even your build and gear. You may want to spec into more vitality and toughness if you can. And also consider running more defensive utilities (I know in some dungeons I roll 3 defensive utilities because it’s the only way to not die if my team isnt that good)

Dungeons right now are very hard to break into. They’re punishing, they’re unforgiving, and they’re well, bugger all challenging for your standard low level group. Dont be too discouraged if your first times end in failures.

“I’ve got to find a group and that group will require me to take part in this exploit. I don’t want to do that,”

You could always try finding a group for the other paths.

While they are harder than a magg run, if you’re skilled they’re actually faster (path 1 can be completed in 10 minutes)

Just go to LA or something and say “LF4M CoF Explorable not Magg!” you’ll probably find some people.

I did try this, but it took over an hour to get a group together and I don’t have that time to spend just looking for a group, never mind actually running the Explorable

My only other suggestion then would be to put together a magg team without an ele. It’s exclusionary sure, but it means people wont use the revive exploit on magg (This is coming from an ele btw, so fooey on people who whine about being excluded)

You could also trying joining a guild and seeing if they want to do it. I know i’ve interested about 2 people in mine for paths 1 and 3. That means all we’d need is to find 1 other person.

You can tell which mesmer is the real one if you simply look over their head. The one with the red hook-like object above it’s head is the real one. I don’t know if you have it disabled or what, but it always makes stomping mesmers very simple.

also assuming he’s not 80, the mesmer with the upscaled arrow is the real one.

If you’re in a party you can also call a target on him, and the target reticule sticks to him like glue.

The dungeon is boring as hell. (Of the 3 paths, there is ONE unique boss per path. And 4-5 that are the same per path… One of them is even a clone of the butcher from HoTW so lol at that too)

You also fight the same boss 3 times per path (for a grand total of 9 fights vs the same kitten boss if you want to 100% it!)

And he’s hilariously overtuned in every path that isnt teleporter. (i’ve said it once and ill say it again. Teeth of mordramoth is 100% grade A bullkitten. Especially seeing as the best strategy to dodge it [standing behind him] is impossible when he decides to stand with his back to a wall!) I could solo him in teleporter given an hour or two. I rarely last over 3 minutes in sub or front door if he stands in a corner.

Oh also one of the bosses routinely bugs out, causing him to be stuck. However because he’s stuck he’s almost immune to all damage that isnt conditions. Leading to 2 hour long fights based on party setup.

Upon completion, no one got credit towards the minister magnate achievement. Meaning that it didnt count us as finishing even after we beat the final boss and got the token reward (which by the way only gave me 30 tokens and 13s even for a first time of that path :| )

Has anyone done and gotten credit for this path recently? I dont want to do it again if it’s just 100% bugged out.

the knights we cheesed a little. we aggroed, backed off into the lack of poison flower area, then as soon as they de-aggroed we’d immobilize one of them and burst him down asap before the others got re-aggro’ed. Once the first knight was down we just fought them normal NP.

As for the final boss we just kited around hitting him. Roots dropped easy for me as staff ele, the burning retreat kills them without needing to retarget, as does lava font.

As for the person who asked how it’s an exploit.

While in air attunement using glyph of renewal teleports the dead person to your location (and revives them) thus you can move magg out of the room.

My suggestion to anet is simply to change the effect of the air attuned glyph of renewal. Maybe I dunno, give the revived person a 50% chance to dodge attacks for 10 seconds after being revived or something. That would fix this exploit.

Defiant Boss buff explanation

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Basically defiant makes them immune to “Crowd control” which is like, knockdowns and fears. Every time they are hit they lose 1 stack of defiant. At 0 stacks the next knockdown/fear will actually effect the boss, and then give them more stacks of defiant.

For example, some bosses have say 3 stacks of defiant.

That means you need 4 knockdowns before one of them will go through, at which point you need another 4 knockdowns before one will go through again.

It’s just there to stop things like event bosses from being perma-knocked down by the horde of players. But also to increase difficulty in dungeons (imagine if you just ran 5 KD warriors, you could constantly stop any boss from ever doing anything)

are you level 80?

From my understanding WvWvW scaling does this
1. bumps up your base attributes
2. does nothing for your gear

What this means is that a level 80 in exotics has far more stats than a level 30 in blues does. So those high damage hits you’re seeing are simply because he has far more power than you have toughness.

sounds like forward forward as I dont recall the archers being in up or forward up (well, there are a few that have stability, but no bubble)

You have to kill the small ones first. When the boss spawns there should usually be about 1 wurm alive. Have 1 person go fight the boss while the others fight the last wurm. If there is tar everywhere in the room you have done it wrong.

I assume you’re meant to get inside the bubble. for those archers.

The boss is the guy with 3 knights yes? Try and find a way to get stability, and focus on bursting them down 1 at a time. If needed, have someone act as a sacrificial lamb, such that the knights waste their knockdown combo’s on him while the other party members do the DPS from range.

Sounds normal for a tree fight. They always have some kind of add they spawn. On up it’s mortars, on Forward up its spiders. I guess forward forward is trees.

There’s also a staircase on the east side of the room.

For my party we had 3 people on the lasers, me on that staircase, and then a ranger above me. When the shield dropped i’d ride the lightning across the gap right into melee range of the beast where i’d start to DPS him. And the ranger would shoot at him from above with the longbow.

When the shield came back up i’d get back to my staircase and wait for my party members to drop the shield again.

It honestly goes much faster if 3 people just stay on the cannons at all times, because then you can drop the shield faster than if they kept trying to platform down to him.

I will admit it’s probably the least fun of the 3 unique boss fights in CoE.

What ideas would you like implemented in Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

1. More co-ordination things.
Examples: 1st and 3rd path of CoF. The torch lighting segments require your party to time things properly. It’s a nice way to force a group to co-ordinate, without just making the dungeon obscenely hard

2. bosses where the environment is your strategy
examples: Destroyer of worlds in SE is probably the biggest I can think of for this. There are lots of things nearby that you can climb all over, and then jump down from, in order to avoid the bosses attacks and the aggro from the adds.

3. bosses where we have to use the environment in some fashion
examples: Taskmaster in SE Slavery where you have to get him crushed. And the icebrood guy in CoE sub where you have to make him crash into the pillars. It’s a fun thing to do.

4. More mechanics from bosses in general
too many bosses are just dodge and spank. While I can understand that not every boss can be a unique and special snowflake, I still feel a little disappointed when the only strategy for a boss is “Dodge his normal attacks and hit him for 10 minutes” even something like Tazza where her only mechanic is “dont stand in her giant red circles” feels more interesting than something like say the first boss in HoTW plunderer (the giant icebrood dog thing) where all he does is freeze people near him. Making the fight literally walk in circles auto’ing him down.

Did see a thread for it. So consider this the official thread for this weeks bracket.

First off, good luck to everyone, hope to see you all on the battlefield.

Now then. Thoughts? predictions? proposed alliances? Boasting about the fact that red is clearly the superior color? Put it all in this thread right here!

arcane shield, mist form, and lightning flash.

When you get knocked down pop one of those. It’ll either block the next shots, or make you immune to them/let you dodge.

went with a PuG earlier.
We couldnt get past phase two and I gave up on them because they were bad. (Like, couldnt understand the concept of stacking up during the first phase bad)

But the boss seemed really fun, i’m planning on saving arah for last, so it’ll be something neat to look forward too.

pugged it recently.

for hodgins, have 1 person tank the first burrow while the others dash about getting the other burrows that spawn.

For the collection thing, you need to have 1 person basically run interference. keep them near the middle of the room and have them aggro any small things that slip by, and/or distract if a burrow spawns close to a crystal.

Slavery:

The longest of the paths

Trash – Tons of it. So much trash you will hate yourselves. First thing to note is dredge bombardiers, they throw grenades. Be careful when you see them, and target them first. In the first area there are some over-aggro concerns because of the patrols. Be careful. When one of the dredge says he needs a rock to open the door, he will fight and fight and fight. The only way to do it is to kill ~5 waves of 6 dredge each, at which point they’ll stop spawning and he finally opens the door. Once you enter the cave area with taskmaster you can skip all the trash with relative easy. Just kill taskmaster by jumping down to the left, then after the next event with the glowing rocks, just run through the cave. Once into the main square, head to your right, there is a rather large section on the right that dredge dont seem to chase you into. This is your new home. From that platform, begin to raid the nearby mortar encampments. Rush in, take out the mortars and then leave. This will skip ~30 more trash including a champion.

Bosses – The first boss of note is a tunneler I believe (I may be remembering this wrong. He’s either in slavery or military, but im 90% sure its slavery) he gives himself quickness, then punches you for 5 bleed stacks per hit. He also tunnels into the ground at which point he explodes up when he pops out, 1 shotting anyone nearby.

Then you have the foremen which are just stronger versions of trash mobs.

After them is Taskmaster. He’s immortal until you lure him under the crushers nearby. When they crush and he’s under it, it’ll damage him and break the shield.

The 5 dredge mining suits are a penultimate boss fight. But they’re pretty bad. Basic strategy is really 1. burst one down ignoring adds and other suits 2. Run away 3. come back and do it again. My group found that at 3 mining suits we were good to just keep fighting rather than backing off. The trash they spawn does eventually despawn if you’re out of aggro range

Final boss – This one is tricky. They both need to be killed within a certain timeframe of each other or they’ll fully heal themselves. Basically get both of them as low as possible before you kill them. It will help so much to have voice chat for this. We had 2 on each golem, then me running back and forth adding DPS as required to keep them level. The dredge in the arena occasionally makes them immortal. But I never saw it enough to be an issue. He apparently stops if you kill 1 golem. So if its being too much of a pain, burst one golem, let it heal, then proceed as normal.

That’s about it for SE explorable. Total run times:
military – about an hour if you dont wipe at all
slavery – it took us 2 hours, with some player deaths, and even skipping all the trash. if we did it again we could probably shave it down to an hour and a half
inquest – depends on the grenadiers. ~15 minutes for them (as they are on a timer) then about another 20-25 for the bosses.

Having done all the paths at least twice each (and inquest a bunch more)

Military:
Trash tips: There’s really not a whole lot going on here. Look out for anything that dazes, but beyond that most trash is manageable

Boss tips: Only a few bosses deserve mention. The boss who you fight by the geysers has 2 mortars near him, slightly out of reach, but they can be hit by attacks that ignore the Z axis. You can also position 2 people near the mortars (at one point a mortar just would not leave me alone, so I ran underneath the raised platform. I got taken out of the fight, but the mortar never shot at my team again, which was worth it) The boss sometimes gives flame shield things to people, this will damage friendly players nearby, so A. spread out and B. get ready to jump in a geyser to cleanse it.

After him is the armorer crawler. While not a boss per se, it has gobs of hp, and lots of trash. My advice for this is to use the rooms elevation against the dredge. Start towards the bottom of the room near the carrier, then slowly make your way up the ramp while avoid dredge fire. Once youve reach the top of the ramp area, jump down onto one of the lower platforms, and then rinse repeat. Dredge cant follow you off cliffs, so for about 10 seconds every rotation you have aggro free time to hit the carrier

The penultimate final boss can be pulled away from his 4 guards, making the fight much easier.

The ultimate final boss is a bit of a doozy. He throws down lava fields (dodgeable) vacuums you in (not really dodgeable, but not that dangerous) smacks you in the face (dodgeable) and spawns adds (obnoxious) the adds are silver ringed, so fighting them is really not advised. Just kite around the room. Use the same trick from the armored crawler, and climb up the steps, over the pipes ETC, then jump down in order to give yourself plenty of free DPS uptime on the boss.

Inquest:

Trash – They recently buffed this. At the start of the dungeon will be 15 waves of grenadiers that run towards the waypoint after the asura gate. Each wave has about a minute inbetween spawning. I suggest you fight at the waypoint (more room to kite) and then begin praying, because grenadiers are terrible.

Bosses – after the grenadiers there is no more trash, and instead you have 4 boss fights, weeeeee. First one is a golem who does nothing of note besides grip people and spin. Second is nokk, he sometimes freezes people in time (big red circle is the telegraph) he’ll also blast people into the lava if you’re standing in such a way that flying backwards would send you off the platform. He summons singularities. Not much health, and they have a nasty AOE effect. But they’re stationary (as is the AOE) and he’ll respawn them constantly if you kill them, so just leave them be if you can. Run through the next corridor and hug the left wall. Ahead you’ll see 3 golem bosses. Recognize them? They are SE story mode golems, but with way less hp and damage. Same strategy for them. The far left golem buffs himself with unstable shield, once that ends, anyone in melee range gets stunned for ~5 seconds. The middle one shoots fire and lava fields, and while he does heal from conditions, its not enough to warrant not using them. Just burst him down as hard as you can. The far right golem uses poison, and grips people while spinning, try to have a stun break or always keep a roll up.
The final boss spawns illusions of people. They have very low hp, but can have some nasty effects (ele’s do tons of damage, engineers immobilize you) so kill them whenever you see one. She also will put a bunch of red circles on the floor. If you dont dodge this, you will die.

Did this path yesterday with no problems. Im not sure what’s up.

Is leurent dying? If you arent letting him die, there might be some almost, failsafe that basically makes it so he does.

Thats really all I can think of.

There’s a lot of really bad ele’s out there making the rest of us look bad.

I’ve seen so many that run into dungeons using a staff (never use a staff in dungeons) that don’t even have another weapon to switch to.

Excuse me what? Never use a staff in dungeons?
You have never done HoTW or CoE Im guessing.

This is coming from someone who rolls D/D every chance he gets, staff is absolutely critical for those dungeons unless you want to have a bad time.
