In my opinion - World first: 10k achievement points

Ye, you get 0.85 achievement point per transmutation, so the 10k points topic is moot.

@Zenyatoo, you can transmute an item with a Hom skin even if it already has the same one, ie a transmutated Fiery Dragon Sword accepts a FDS transmutation. I know it doesnt do much when going for multiple stacks, but you’ll be using less time clicking on 2 different stacks all the time.

I didnt know you could transmute the same skin over and over lol. But yeah, so, like 3 HoM points is all you need to do this for free by just clicking in the inventory over and over.

If so the problem is that it’s not considered instanced like other story quests are. You can meet/see other players during it. One of whom was apparently an engineer who placed the turret.

Hydra Queen

So. Where the heck is this thing?

As far as I can puzzle out
1. It should be in plains of ashford (the other boss events correspond to the starting zones, and then the 3 dragon champions. Only the hydra queen and plains of ashford are leftover)

2. Most of these bosses appear in area’s with constant progress updates. For example, the swamp (both queensdale and caledon) constantly say “all is peaceful” or whatever until the event starts. Likewise with all the dragons, the reactor, and I assume the ice elemental.

Keeping this in mind there’s only 2 places in Plains that I found matching these criteria.
1. The duke barradin vaults. – As far as I can tell there is no Hydra here during the battle for the vault event.
2. Foefires heart – As far as I can tell there is no Hydra here during the battle for ascalon event.

Those are the only 2 spots ive found that match up to the other world boss area’s. But neither seems correct. I’ve also never even seen a normal hydra, as far as I was aware they dont exist in this game.

Anyone found (and killed) this mysterious beast?

“… Considering I’m the first, and the thing you’re proposing doesn’t exist, I guess I’ll just need to not aim to impress you.

I’m more impressed that, with such a winning strategy, you’re not the one with 10000 achievement points. slow clap"

(hooray for quote breaking)

For starters yes it does exist. It’s called hobby tinkerer It’s a “hidden” achievement for doing extra transmutations past the first 30.

Secondly if you have enough HoM points you can swap out multiple skins on 1 armor piece. For example, if you have both the heritage and the balthazar gauntlets unlocked you can take a pair of gloves into your HoM. Buy 1000+ of the heritage and balthazar transmutations (they’re free) then go nuts clicking away.

Thus all you really did was waste your gold getting this 10K points which mean exactly zip. Slow clap as you put it.

(Oh and as a finishing note, the reason I havent abused this is because I dont consider achievement score that I got by clicking in my inventory for 6 hours to be worth anything. :/ )

how do i use combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

combo’s are used when you combine a combo field with a combo finisher.

Combo fields differ by element. For example you have fire, ice, water, lightning, light, dark, smoke, ether and so on combo fields.

Combo finishers differ by method of attack. You have blast, whirl, leap, and projectile.

Each combo field has different effects based on which combo finisher you use.

To use a combo, simply lay down a combo field, then use a combo finisher inside it (Note: some combo fields are specific in their area. For example the elementalist burning speed, unless your skill passes through, or is used on the actual fire animation it wont proc the combo effect)

You can also use finishers into other players fields, or vice versa.

Combo fields can range from incredibly handy (some elementalist attack rotations give their team 12+ stacks of might in a few seconds)
to essentially useless (some combo fields have minimal utility, or add effects that can be commonly found elsewhere)

Let me guess: you did the asura area with an other character than an asura? Because for an Asura, those old lines are still there, but you can’t expect an inferior race like, for example, the charr to understand complex matters like charging the external flux matrix, do you? No, all they see are colored wires and strange thingamajingies.

Long story short: it depends on the race you are playing with. Which in my opinion, is a very, VERY cool detail ^^

you get similar changes with the questioning skritt segment. My Charr asked basic math and geometry questions. My asura asked incredibly technical ones.

Agree with above posters, one of the best dungeons I’ve run in general, in many MMOs.

You can see this in the comments of the people hating the dungeon, too. This dungeon is one of the few proper ones because it punishes mistakes.

Just look at the people that dislike it. Similar comments you saw in WoW when heroics were difficult. Most of them seem to think Alpha is impossible to dodge or too hard, for example, which is simply untrue. The problem is their WoW-mentality of not moving, not dodging, and not paying attention to the fight.

they like it better but because they have no choice

And here you sound like a crack addict. You realize that you don’t HAVE to play games, right? If they aren’t fun, then don’t.

I sure wouldn’t play WoW if GW2 wasn’t there just because it’s a MMO. I’d only play games that are fun.

That you and your friends are not and instead “have no choice” to play WoW is saying a lot about you and your friends.

Conclusion: Very well desinged dungeon. I hope this one is used as a template for more dungeons. The only changes needed are a change for the Destroyer boss, and slightly harder trash in some parts. Each part should have some unique trash mobs that are advanced in some way. Maybe eben randomly (for example make a pool of 10 abilities, and it randomly picks two of those, including really, really evil ones)

Result would be a literally perfect dungeon.

God I hope they never make another dungeon like this.
I dont understand how you can consider fighting a massive tub of hp 9 times a fun dungeon. I seriously dont. Maybe if it was a fun fight. But its honestly not. Once youve dodged his abilities for over 2 minutes you know everything there is to know about them. And the prospect of needing to fight him 60 more times is daunting if not downright sickening.

Were people suprise that many GW2 players are complaining about PVE Endgame?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

The problem is that the argument of
“the entire game is endgame” simply isnt true. Not to mention this little number “we didnt want grind”

I’m level 80. I’m a dungeon master, and I found a lot of the dungeon paths to be NOT FUN. Bad design, boring bosses, too much trash hp, few and far good things.
So I went and did map completion. And that was… ok. The first time round. But now i’ve been there done that.

So I look at my choices which are currently
1. do PvP
2. Get a legendary
Now assuming im not a PvP fanatic my only other choice is farming, and farming, and farming and farming. In Cursed shore. Why cursed shore? because NO other zone has drops on that level. The only issue? Orr is a big bag of… felines. Talk to most players, they dont have fun in Orr. No one is there to have fun. They’re there to farm stuff. To grind.

The problem with “entire game is endgame” is that there’s very little reason for players to ever backtrack. Or even to help friends (Indeed we are dis-advantaged if we do so due to waypoint costs, and drops not always scaling [and never scaling to the same level of Orr] )

Once youve hit 80 and have dungeon master + been there done that you’ve pretty much finished the game.

Now, thats not to say I havent dumped a lot of time and gotten my moneys worth. But the excuses “everything is endgame” doesnt really hold up for a lot of players. Out of all of my friends and guildies (who all play 5+ hours a day) only 2 of us enjoyed dungeons on some level and none of us thought of map completion as anything besides carto and vanquisher V2.

Any humans – use avatar of grenth
any asurans – carry radiation field
for the necro – all the poison he can carry

For your last two slots I would recommend
1. mesmer – Time warp is a godsend for this boss. Pop it when she stealths and you can usually break the DPS check. Worst case scenario you break each separate DPS segment with a time warp, leading to a longer, but much less painful fight.
2. Warrior or thief. Both have solid levels of DPS, and IIRC thieves also have a way to apply poison

For those super worried about this boss. Ive done it with 3 eles, a necro and a mesmer. (Ele’s were all glass cannon) AS any ele will tell you, our DPS to single targets is really not that high. So dont stress the DPS check so much.

The problem with Lupus (I know) is that he is bugged. I thought it’s confirmed that his aoe hits outside of his circles and even if you roll out of a circle during 2nd phase the projectile still chases you out of it. There are some clips on youtube that shows and I’ll try to look for it.

Its more like the AoE for his circles can splash outside it.

Also he can auto-attack you DURING his AoE. There’s nothing worse than taking 2 auto attacks to the back while focusing on not being in the red death zones.

Oh and whichever Anet designer felt it was a good idea to have his AoE range be larger than his aggro range deserves to be fired. Just straight up. I should not have the entire fight reset with 3 people in the bloody arena because we actually dodged the attacks in the easiest manner available (that is, moving backwards) Seriously, just make his aggro range the entire arena. If anything that actually makes the fight harder in that you cant de-aggro to heal. But it would fix pretty much the biggest flaw with lupicus right now.

Looking for a server to test something (details inside)

in WvW

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

So recently I discovered that I am one of the unlucky players who is not/has never actually received his/her WvWvW benefits. By which I mean the %’s that you win with your points.

(it’s a known bug that for some players these bonuses simply never apply)

the only “fix” at the current moment is to try transferring to a server, waiting for the next match to start (you dont receive the bonuses if you transfer after a match has started. Which is intended and logical) and then hoping it starts to work for you.

Being that the next match rotations will be later today (16 hours at time of post) now would be an ideal time for me, and any player in my situation to transfer and see if we can get our bonuses to actually start working.

With that in mind I would like suggestions for a server
what I would want in a server:
1. ease of transfer – If your server rocks a full population for 80% of the day i’d prefer not to join it. Simply because transferring will be hard, and I may be taking slots from people who have more worthy causes than simply trying to get some nice (but unnecessary) benefits to work.

2. reasonable WvWvW presence (not really needed but nice) – in theory if the benefits kick in I should be able to actually see them. But even if I cant I will most likely be wanting to do field tests. These tests would be more accurate, and easier to do if the server has a high point amount. Obviously I will do my part in the actual fighting, it is one of the simplest ways to ensure that the server I join has points for the bonuses so I can test. But I’d prefer not to be joining into a server thats going to be sitting at 10,000 points for the entire week im there (and yes, I will be there the full week)

3. friendly community? – I will be staying for the week, and its always nice to have a friendly community on said server. Im sure just about every server has its fair share of nice people. But this is a suggestion thread, so if you have a burning passion to see me on your server, perhaps note something cool players on your server do/have done.

If no one makes any suggestions i’ll just pick at random. But I’d like to at least get second opinions on things.

Why is CoF sooo easy?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Because AC has a focus on trash monsters with gobs of hp that they really dont need.

Whereas path 1 of CoF relies more on team co-ordination and your ability to survive.
And path 2 decided it actually wanted to be fun, rather than dodge and spank for 30 minutes until finished.

CoF is honestly one of the better dungeons. Perfect? No. Too easy? Maybe. But it’s one of the more FUN dungeons to run.

Scyte, as someone who has does every path in every dungeon. Im not disagreeing that its one of the easier ones if you know what you’re doing. However the wurm alone wipes groups who dont know the specific strategy for it, which is not immediately obvious.

Same with fights like vevina and the 3x knights.

Meanwhile any PuG with at least a reasonable level of skill/gear can blaze through most other dungeons without a care in the world. Easy? Sure if you know what you are doing. Easiest? Not by a long shot. PuG friendly? Not as much as most other dungeons.

easiest? Haha what? AC is the easiest by far. Hell the Vevina fight is harder than everything in AC explorable ;o

However yes. The death of the 5 vine spawns the boss. The vines have only 1 attack in melee, that is very easy to dodge. If your team can cluster around the vines they will go down fine (I’ve had to solo the champion before while my team messed around with the other vine, and it only hit me twice)

There’s a fix. Dodge 100 blades and they go down fairly easily.

I run full exotics. I had vit/tough on every piece but 3 (my ammy/ring/necklace are beryl rather than invaders. and my pants, gloves, and boots are pow/prec/crit)

We owned 2 orbs. Putting me to a rather nice (or so I thought) 20k or so hp.
I was then hit for 10K by a bladetrail. Which is undodgeable unless you see it coming at you, which is rather hard when surrounded by about 20 allies.

Now, you might say that the warrior who did this to me must have been full glass cannon. Which is probably true. The only issue? He would still be rocking around 18k hp. So this full glass cannon warrior who can do half my hp with 1 skill (that’s ranged and not very visible at all) has a mere 2k less hp than me. While my server owned 2 of the 3 orbs.

That’s pretty much the definition of imbalanced. Had I not immediately ran away, and had I not been surrounded by teammates I probably would have died without even seeing the warrior who was going to kill me.

“How awesome would it be if there was a boss whose danger was not so much in having some AoE ability (as most seem to have) but in tossing around stacking conditions that would require rapid removal or even redirection.”

High priestess of lyssa gives 25 stacks of confusion to everyone throughout the fight. ;p

I do agree though. Bosses like the high priestess of lyssa were some of my favorite fights. Arah actually does some pretty kitten good fights.

1. Skaggoth thing – requires teamwork and co-ordination to stand on the things. Also requires you to have burning in your party setup somewhere
2. lupicus in general – multiphase, HP isnt so much that it’s tedious besides maybe phase 3. Could strip out the last 25% of his hp and itd be a much more enjoyable fight. especially seeing as failing past phase 3 is rather difficult compared to failing in phase 2
3. the jotun stargazer – requires reflection skills, or for the team to have picked up and carried crystals (which can and do break during the fight, causing you to have to rely on player skills)
4. High priestess of lyssa – requires some kind of AoE condition removal or for a team to be very very cautious the entire fight.
5. High priest of grenth – requires teamwork, co-ordination, and also each player must be able to solo effectively
6. If it wasnt so buggy i’d add simin to this list too. Good mechanics, bad execution

Other bosses that are honestly pretty good
1. Taskmaster – SE slavery – requires use of enviroment. Doesnt have tons of hp
2. The golems at the end of SE slavery – Requires teamwork and co-oridnation for the kill. Not that much hp.
3. Forgeman v2 – SE story – fun fight both designwise, lengthwise, and… thematic? Aesthetic? Basically the area and the boss look really cool.
4. Baelfire – CoF story – fun designed, unique to GW2, nice aesthetics
5. that one guy guarding the east braizer – CoF story – he makes this list for 1 reason, cool telegraph. His telegraph for his mechanic (spawning adds) is a vocal one. He says something before he does it. I dont think this is repeated anywhere else.
6. Baelfire v2 – CoF path 2 – fun design, good music
7. end boss CoF path 3 – debated putting him on the list. Loved his arena, it just screams final boss. His mechanic was also pretty ok. Lots of hp though, little tedious
8. Fimble – HoTW – Only boss in HoTW that deserves this spot. HP is fine, mechanic is neat. Everything else in HoTW is pretty gosh darn terrible though
9. that husk in CoE – fun design
10. icebrood guy in CoE – loved having to use environment. Fix the pillar glitch though please

Alpha’s not on this list. Not a good boss design. And making us fight him 9 times is stupid. Sorry to disappoint any alpha lovers out there.

There’s nothing from AC, TA, or CM on this list. I dont consider any of those bosses to be exceptionally good. They’re either bad, or just mediocre.

What is the story behind Path 2 of Twilight Arbor?

in Lore

Zenyatoo.4059

Ok so

Caithe and faolain had a thing
But faolain got all evil
So you chase her off in TA story.
Then you discover that 3 high ranking members of the nightmare court are after this tree thing faolain left behind.

So you enter the dungeon to help some lady get rid of the nightmare tree. She used to be in love with leurent, who is a male sylvari who succumbed to the nightmare court. He is one of the 3 high ranking members.

Each path has different conclusions revolving around the members killing each other.

In the Up path the spider queen kills the mesmer lady. You kill the spider queen, and then leurent gets the tree.
in the Forward/Up path, the mesmer kills leurent, you kill the mesmer, and the spider queen gets the tree.
in the Forward/Forward path, leurent kills the spider queen. You kill leurent, and then the mesmer gets the tree.

Basically in every path 1 member of the 3 high ranking nightmare court people kills another, then you kill the 2 who are left.

(Note: assuming this is considered an exploit mods feel free to just delete the thread or whatever. My intentions for this thread are not to allow players to gain an advantage over one another, but I know how players can be <.< )

1. Finish Arah story mode
2. Enter Arah explorable
3. Fight your way to lupicus – this may require a team. But most of this can actually be done solo if you are in path 3 and know how.
4. Once you have entered his room zoom out as much as you can. Leave the party and get auto-kicked from the dungeon (Note: please dont be the first to enter the dungeon if you are doing this or you will kick the players who possibly want to actually complete the dungeon)
5. You are now zoomed out much further than is normally possible while out in the normal world.

This ends next time you log out. But does NOT change when you waypoint somewhere.

Below are some comparison shots between this extended zoom and the normal zoom levels. Also a screenshot of one of my favorite places, showing off how much more scenery you can view.

As you can see there is only 1 trait worth a kitten in fire and air. Which means speccing heavily into those is completely unviable.

The idea was to point out that builds are basically combinations of arcane, water and earth. Anything else is generally seen as gimmicky and/or useless. Whereas other classes often have a large variety of traits and builds they can run, not to mention weapon choices.

Have you played gw1? You could get your max stat Armor, weapons, stats, max level, all within a couple hours of playtime. People wanted the best skins, and they took time to get. Obsidian Armor was the most expensive and required the most work aka “hardest” set to get. same freaking stats. took ages to farm the mats. You want the best skins, they take work. It’s how this game works. Especially the dungeon sets, can’t just sit around making money on the tp for that, takes a little bit of skill and a brain.

Unless of course you want the T3 armor or the legendaries which require basically nothing but obscene amounts of money.
The legendary at least requires ~1million karma. But that’s just farming in orr, so easy a bot can do it.
The point about aesthetics taking skill to get doesnt hold up ingame.

i hope you guys realize they fixed the downed sickness bug for mist form about a week ago… ele’s downed abilities still suck, but they don’t kill you now.

Not sure what “bug” you are talking about, but right now every time you use downed 3, it adds a stack to your downed state when you drop again, making you start with less health than before. This is to prevent people from chain resetting their downed state indefinitely i’m sure, but it still happens.

Worse still, if you are in mist form you are counted as “up” so if something dies while you’re mist forming, or if someone burns their hard rez on you, then it will have no effect, and you will stay dead.

A friend of mine pretty much cost us a lupicus kill this way. I was a half second from reviving him an an engineer. The engineer WP’d back, and my friend mist formed away, leaving me to be the only alive person in the room <.<

Not too sure about that, when I was in sPvP earlier I was down’d (Managed to to get into mist form!) and as I was in mist form the other guy was stomped and it rally’d me while I was in mist form.
________

And Engis “Get over here!” downed skill does interrupt, it also has great utility like stopping someone else get down’d or pulling people that are low health too you so you can set off your bomb, kill them and get the counter stomp. Not saying it always happens but it can do.

It will occasionally work. But in my experience its less than 5% of the time. Seeing as every time it happens im actually surprised that it worked properly. Rather than the inverse.

What is the Red Dot with a X in it on the skill bar?

Is it this red crosshair thing? Because that indicates the skill cannot be used underwater.

ok wait.
Go re-check timberline.
There’s a waypoint in there that only seems to show up about 50% of the time (Southeast corner of the map or so)

Apart from that I have no idea.

level 68 rares and higher (anyone who says its 70 is being lazy. The cutoff is 68)

And as far as we know, magic find doesnt help. What does help is the salvage kit you use. Globs are considered a rare material, so black lions are best if you want to get them. Followed by mystic or the other rare kit, then the masterwork one, and so on.
