Arah Giganticus Lupicus......

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Lupicus has one fairly exploitable issue with his aggro:

He likes to target the person with highest toughness.

Whenever my guild runs arah, he will pretty much perma-focus down one of our guardians. He’s done this every time. Indeed, as soon as she died, lupicus would change targets, only to instantly switch back when she re-entered the room.

What this means for you is that if you can find, or run yourself, a high toughness build, you can force lupicus to come after you for a majority of the fight. Then, assuming you are able to survive, your team gets free DPS.

As the target of lupicus attacks these would be my suggestions:
1. Dont face towards him during his massive AOE. You run slower, and as his primary target you need to be focused on dodging rather than damaging.
2. The Auto attack can be reflected, or blocked by other means. Aegis is a god send. Failing that, it does zig-zag quite a bit, again if you are always moving away from lupicus you will find them easier to dodge
3. the shadowstep is often used right after the AoE attack. He will ofc be going for you if youve got the high toughness. Dodging this can be tricky, rolling too soon will cause him to simply smack you. You’ll just have to practice.

Phase 3:
1. life drain – Not much you can do, just try to run as far as you can. In phase 3 lupicus is much harder to break aggro from, so dont worry about distance causing him to reset. Also your party should be almost 100% DPS uptime during this phase, so even if you do they can cover until you’re back in aggro
2. large life drain circle – Just run out of it asap
3. AoE barrage – No idea what to call this, but he puts a red circle down and launches tons of auto attacks into it. These can all be reflected for tons of damage. Or simply move out of the circle
4. the green bubble of death – Lupicus traps you in a bubble and starts to do major damage to you. The bubble walls knock you down when you try to leave. Things that make you invulnerable, or give you stability will let you pass through the wall. Failing that you can try to roll through the wall edge, but the timing is tricky (think EBG jump puzzle, where you had to time your roll so you were immortal when the flame darts cross through you. Likewise, time it so you are immortal as you pass through the wall) If you go down your team can usually get you up (lupicus rarely bubbles twice in a row, and his other attacks in phase 3 arent that dangerous)

While I generally speaking dislike promoting class discrimination, a guardian or warrior who knows what they are doing is probably more help to this fight than anything else. Simply because they usually have more toughness than most other classes, and better chances of surviving as lupicus’ main target, allowing everyone else to focus on DPS, and allowing everyone else to not worry so much about being totally wtfpwned by lupicus in the meantime.

put in 800 hours. Finished every dungeon path. Me and my guild clear Arah paths in under 30 minutes for forgotten, and around an hour for mursaat and jotun, essentially daily, and often more than once a day.

In my experience they’re still not enjoyable or fun. We do them for the tokens or the money, not because we enjoy them. Trash monsters are tedious rather than interesting 90% of the time. Bosses are usually dodge and spanks (though Arah at least tries to have boss mechanics) and even bosses with interesting mechanics typically overstay their welcome.

imo a reduction to boss and trash HP is mandatory for a majority of dungeons. Their damage is fine, hitting them for three times longer than we really needed to is not. To quote someone else who put it quite nicely “They’re dead, they just dont know it yet”

GW2 is a great game, but the dungeons are currently quite lacking. I do hope Anet improves on their design for their next dungeons, and given how good some of the other content was, I am hopeful that they can figure out what they need to do.

About jotun, my guildies have stated that the door from the vault of holiness is open, but the one after killing the final boss is not, so I wouldnt bother with that path for right now.

Speaking of fleeing like small children.

here are 10 Blackgate players forcing back an entire JQ zerg while standing outside our gate which had literally no defensive siege on it.

And if I had bothered to take any I could post pictures of ~5 BG players forcing over 20 SBI back into their spawn point without the use of siege.
But no, all BG players flee like small children in the face of big scary JQ zergs eh? ;o

@ konig. Does it ever state that zojja did those?

As far as im aware, the cannon is the same one that Gixx operates inside the priory, or a similar one to the one used against tequatl. Which is again, a priory operated base.

The cannon as far as I can tell was priory designed, built, and tested (against risen and tequatl) all zojja did was charge it up after kicking its actual operator out of the chair.

Thats called a bug. Dont know why top tier bracket players have never encountered it before. Happens all the time.

Here’s a similar one, in which an altar inside the blackgate garrison remained SBI, and was even spawning SBI veteran monsters, had the orb been in that keep you’d see a similar picture to the one you have there.

I assume no SBI hacks were used in the making of this picture.

Sorry if that seems mean, but on FA we would see people using mesmer bombs and stacking against us. Know what we got told? “Yeah, that’s called co-ordination. it’s how good teams beat zergs” So we sucked it up and got better. Now im seeing all these people from the t kittening one bracket complaining about a strategy that’s already been accepted in the lower brackets? Makes me wonder how they actually made it to T1, probably wasnt their co-ordination if they didnt use “cheesy” tactics. Sounds a heck of a lot more like zergway 24/7 to me.

downscaling is bad. It almost feels like sometimes you are downscaled but the enemies are not.

for comparison
Highest damage ive been hit for from a trash monster in arah, level 80: 4K chaos storm from risen illusionist (discounting deadeyes)
Average damage from something in CM, level 45: 2K

Well that seems reasonable, half level half damage. Surely my HP must follow a similar pattern meaning I can take similar amount of hits!

HP at level 80: 16200
HP at level 45: 6300

So I can take less than 3 hits from something in CM, whereas I can take 5 from something in arah. Oh and keep in mind the Arah monster only does that level of damage on chaos storm. Which they can only do maybe twice, three times a fight? Oh and you just roll out of it. Those 2.2k’s from CM? Those are bloody auto-attacks.

2. finally show up when we’re already in arah
3. help the commander of the pact forces find some energy nodes
4. get on the airship
5. do jack all on said airship
6. switch to second airship
7. Zojja charges a pact cannon that A. should have already been charged and B. already had a bloody operator standing by
8. standing around while the commander of the pact forces uses pact technology mounted on a pact airship to bring down zhaitan

Either leave the area with the melandru statue, or prepare to remove conditions and get in an out quickly.

Or try and take the melandru temple. Which is pretty much impossible unless you can convince ~30 players to come help.

I would recommend perhaps using a rifle, longer range usually allows for slower reactions without screwing you over too much.

my only experience with this was my teams skeletons apparently hated the idea of attacking the enemy spawning areas? I solo pushed a lane, and then had to solo the spawning thing, as all my skeletons decided they felt like standing around instead of helping.

Then later we had ~6 people whacking on the enemies last spawning thing. It dies, I look over and see they’ve put another up, and all 3 of ours, which were at full hp when their last thing was at 40% are now all dead. We lost.

Kinda confused on that one. is there some super fast way to destroy the spawners? Are skeletons from the south team supposed to just ignore the top left spawner?

arah path 3 can be done in 20 minutes. Thats pretty fast man.

The other paths are also not much longer if you’re good at them. If people farmed Arah at the same level as they did CoF, youd probably notice it more, there’s a lot of skippable content in arah, it’s all in how you can boss fight when it comes to your overall time.

EDIT:

also AC gives pretty good money. I’d like to see that repeated throughout other dungeons, might make people less likely to skip trash monsters.

Taking responsibility

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Zenyatoo.4059

Some things are clearly buggy, werent tested, or were tested and ignored.

I find it incredible to believe that no one noticed for example the door on arah locking you out of finishing 2 paths. This is something even an amateur testing group given less than 5 hours could have figured out, repro’ed and submitted. So either it wasnt tested. Or the devs looked at it and sent back “working as intended”

neither one speaks very highly of Anets ability to get stuff working how it should be. So when players encounter things that are difficult, the first instinct will still be to assume it’s overtuned.

If anet cant get a door to work properly, a door that players noticed and reported was bugged less than a bloody hour after the patch went out, why should we ever assume that bosses or trash groups are working as intended? :/ (especially in light of say SE path 2 which was added in, and then like 4 hours later got 2 red posts saying it was “a bug” )

EDIT:
I would like to add. I have played a lot of game, seen a lot of bugs in my time, and played through every dungeon path. There are a lot of buggy things. Is every difficult thing bugged? No. But quite a lot of them that I found difficult were usually fixed somewhere down the line, or have a wide majority of forum and ingame players assuming bugged (for example, sparks in simin are very very very obnoxious sometimes, making the fight luck based if you try to actually do the mechanic)

Lunatic inquisition thoughts

Gametype seems fun, if horribly imbalanced and prone to some severely gamebreaking flaws.

1. If you are a villager and a courtier is after you then there is nothing you can do to stop them if they’re any good at all. Scarecrow range + teleport + leap is enough to catch every villager ive ever spotted. And the invisibility is worthless. Anyone who ever pops it makes me laugh as all I have to do is attack where they went invis and wait for them to appear again. Make the stealth a 5-10 second stealth without the standing still crap so you can actually juke people who know what they’re doing.

2. you can be placed as a villager into a game with only courtiers, directly ONTOP of coutriers. I spawned and had no less than 7 people running at me, from all directions. Needless to say I was almost immediately chain feared and converted. Dont let people spawn as villagers into a game with more courtiers than villagers. and/or dont let villagers spawn within 100ft of any courtier.

3. Collecting materials for the ghosts is generally speaking impossible. Ive never seen it done. The materials are spread so few and far between throughout the entire maze, and any courtier worth a kitten can simply camp the area where you turn them in preventing you from ever finishing it. (and yeah yeah if he’s camping avoid him. It’s kind of hard when there is 1 courtier at every turnin and 6 more roaming the maze). I dont know what could be done about this one. But materials should either be more common, or like most collection quests limited to the area around the collector.

4. players can see other players when villagers. This one isnt so much a bug as it is just generally obnoxious people. One time I tried hiding the entire round rather than running through the maze. Of course one random asura villager comes up to me, sees my hiding place, then runs off and dies. As soon as he died no less than 3 courtiers including himself came directly for my hiding spot. This also applies to the collection ghosts. If you are a villager and you see 5 of your teammates near one ghost turning stuff in, then you die, obviously you’re going to go there as soon as you can to reap the free conversions. Not really sure what can be done about this, but perhaps not make allies able to see each other on the map. It kind of ruins the game when one person can purposely get killed and then get 5 kills in about a minute because he knew where every ghost was.

5. And this is the most important. The mad king is an ally even when im a villager. Which is totally kitten. I wanted to be able to hit him in the face with a hammer or a ball of goo and I couldnt :< fix plz.

Legendary Aspirations “So you want your first Legendary Weapon?”

There is really only 1 thing on there that’s absurd and that’s the precursor.

let me put it this way. You get karma for absolutely flippin everything now. And if you’re smart and use boosters you can get 90k karma every 10 days without needing to do ANY events. And you will probably be doing events too.

The clovers have a byproduct of creating tons of the t6 mats. I know i’m at around 60-100 of every T6 mat and im only up to 30 clovers (and my only limiting factor in not making more clovers is not bothering to buy more mystic coins)

I already have all the badges of honor I need. If it’s truly that hard for you, just do the jump puzzles every day. Even if your server isnt stomping you can usually do them. Or transfer for a week to one that is and get all your badges in one week.

skill points are cake
dungeon tokens are cake (there’s at least 1 farmable route for every dungeon. Trust me on that)
icy runestones and the recipes are… well, ok, these arent fun to do, but 120g isnt that much tbh. My friend who has never once even attempted to do anything resembling “playing the tp” has bought commander twice. He simply does a LOT of dungeons. He does his AC runs every day, he runs arah, and HoTW, and CoF, and pretty much everything daily, it does add up if you dont die.

The precursor is the only thing up there that needs to go stuff itself.
Honestly if you get a precursor drop, you might as well make that legendary, because you are already 60% of the way there the second you get it.

D/D dungeon set up

http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/elementalist#1.0-3.12.9.3.3-0.10.10.20.30-8.1.4.2.6.9.8

Not sure if that link will work but
10 air (quick glyphs)
10 earth (earths embrace)
20 water (cleansing wave and cantrip mastery. If you want feel free to change one of those into the thing that gives you vigor when you use cantrips)
30 arcana (Evasive arcana, elemental attunement and renewing stamina)

utilities:
Signet of restoration
Mist form
Arcane shield
Optional – Usually either lightning flash, armor of earth, glyph of renewal or other as needed.

gear:
Power/vit/toughness gear (Sorrows embrace set) with crests of the soldier (power/vit/tougness)
My backbrace, and then rings/ammy/necklaces are all bezerker with ruby jewels though.
Daggers used are power/vit/crit damage, but if they are available to you then consider the invader ones (power/vit/toughness) sigils I use are rage and then I change the other one up quite a bit. So feel free to use bloodlust, or luck, or flame, or whatever you want on that one.

Overall strategy:
Never stand still unless you’re using churning earth

If you need to back off then switch to water, vapor blade is longest range, and it stacks vulnerability which helps the team.

If you’re looking for a good opening combo: Fire 3, fire 4, switch to earth, earth 4, earth 5, use arcane shield if you’ve got aggro during earth 5 so you dont get wtfpwned.

air 3 (shocking aura) is incredible for certain monsters. Stunning them when they hit you saves your life.

With that setup switching stances can give you some nice boons, water earth and air are usually best for survival (regen, protection and swiftness) Switching should also give you fury, which in turn lets you crit more, which gives you a higher chance at vigor, which is incredible for surviving.

and honestly the best tip is this – Dont try to D/D everything. It’s just not possible. Certain bosses or trash encounters are just a million times easier with your staff. Always keep one with you.

Turning skillpoints into money

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

I know there’s a few people with extra skillpoints who would prefer they be money.
At the same time I have my own reasons for posting this. So lets make it a win win for several people eh?

The trick to this is the mystic forge and having a slightly amount of money to start with.

First identify your recipe that you will be using. We’re going to use destroyer lodestones as an example, but pretty much any lodestone can get similar results if you work at it.

Second, identify what you can and cant make.
Using current (at time of post) market prices:
Destroyer lodestones – 1g 21s sell and 1g 16s buy
Destroyer cores – 40s 40c sell and 40s 33c buy
Destroyer shard – 5s 30c sell and 4s 11c buy

Now ive already done the math and cores wont work. But shards will. So here’s how it goes.

Third
Buy 4 shards. Even at their sell price you’ll make profit. (530 * 4 = 2120)
Buy 2 incandescent dust. (24 * 2 = 48)
Buy 2 elonian wine (2560 * 2 = 5120)
Buy some crystals from miyani (you’ll need 3, but she’ll give you 5 for 3 skillpoints, so 3 skillpoints)

Smash 2 shards, 1 dust, 1 wine and 1 crystal together in the forge to make a core.
Do that twice.

Fourth
Take those cores
Buy another elonian wine (2560)
Buy a pile of crystalline dust (113)
Use another crystal
2 cores + the other mats makes a lodestone

Total cost it took you to make that lodestone: 99s 61c and 3 skillpoints.
Factoring in the 15% TP cut you would need to sell this lodestone for : 1g 17s and 19c to make profit.
If you note the lowest sell price, you can make ~4 silver for that lodestone. However, if you want to play the market a little more, the lowest sell price has only 3 lodestones up, the next sell price is 6 silver higher. Meaning you could make a potential 10s profit for essentially 1.8 skillpoints if you are willing to wait, and risk it.

This works with other lodestones too, just make sure to check the prices before you mess with the forge.

(Note: not really sure if this is the proper section. I assumed it was because its meant to help players. But if not, mods feel free to move it to crafting or black lion or whatever)

WvWvW Gatherer Bonus Bugged?

It is a known bug.

Some players like you and me do not and have never received their WvWvW bonuses. You can tell you arent by mousing over the castle icon in the top left of your screen. if it doesnt list the bonuses then you arent getting them.

There’s been no word on Anet if they’re attempting to fix this. As far as I know they only confirmed the existence of the bug.

So far the only fix that ive been told of is to transfer servers and pray that they start to kick in. Keeping in mind that you cannot receive bonuses during the matchup you transfer into. Meaning you only get 1 chance a week to hopefully start getting your bonuses, which may vanish when you transfer back to your original server :/

in Suggestions

Zenyatoo.4059

1. Make loot from the end event chests actually good. Blues are unacceptable. Im talking at least a rare garunteed. This gives an incentive for players to finish these events if they’re in it for the loot

That won’t work. If an area is regularly farmed, all it’s loot will fall into three categories:
– Vendor trash. It’s only value is selling it to the vendor for a fixed price. Giving the players the gold directly has the same effect.
– Items, or ingredients of items, to sell to other players. Which will have its price decline due to it being oversupplied by farmers until it becomes vendor trash.
– Bind on pickup items. Useless unless you want those items for yourself.

So by guaranteeing a rare drop, you’ll just crash the price on rares. Then someone will come along saying they should guarantee exotics, using the exact same reasoning you used to say guarantee rares.

This would be true if not for the fact that players receive more rares doing events that dont have end chest rewards simply because they kill more things. With the exception of perhaps grenth, the rares would probably be about equal, perhaps slightly more common but I have my doubts about a total crash.

At the very least the end rewards need to be SOMETHING better than they are. As it stands you have a very very very very very very very low chance of getting anything valuable out of that end chest, and it’s clearly not enough to entice players.

AFAIK dart is only able to be used underwater right?

The Orr had the naval power. But the charr only fought on the land. Strategy, not luck ;o

I noticed you only have 41% map completion. Why don’t you explore the rest of Tyria instead of mindlessly zerging 3 events over and over?

Hey maybe he wants to get some cool cosmetic or exotic gear and hey woulda look at that, you need money and/or karma, which is mostly found doing those 3 events.

Or
OOOOOOR maybe he doesnt find map completion fun.

OR, OR OR OR OR OR you could realize that even players with 100% map completion think Orr needs a change (funfact: a BUTTLOAD of people fall into this category)

Since when did the Harathi move to the trees?

They heard the humans were making fun of them for not being able to climb trees. I mean, I dunno about you, but if someone kept calling me two legs id be sure to point out things my 2 legs can do that their 4 cant.

Wait until after ive farmed the 500g I need for my legendary before you nerf it please. Kthx.

In all seriousness there are a few easy changes that would fix this

1. Make loot from the end event chests actually good. Blues are unacceptable. Im talking at least a rare garunteed. This gives an incentive for players to finish these events if they’re in it for the loot
2. Give more karma for specific events. This already occurs in WvWvW. But not in PvE? I was confused as well. An event in which we need to kill a boss, then stop tons of waves, while also distributing enough players to cover respawns, which takes something like 6-9 minutes to finish, assuming we actually win (which happens maybe 20% of the time unless you’re on during primetime) gives the same karma as killing 20 risen inside gaveborn, or a single veteran spider. Bump up the karma rewards for certain events that are clearly harder than others. This gives an incentive to do them for players who are looking to get karma
3. Increase rewards for defense events. Also increase difficulty if needed. As it stands there is no reason to do any defense event that isnt filler between plinx. Why defend a temple if failing means I get 7 times as many events to do later, with more loot, and more fun fights? I mean, you could easily add a risen priest of grenth to the grenth temple when you defend it. As in, he’s come to take it back. Bam. Defending is now more fun. Make a boss chest spawn and give it a better karma reward. Bam, players will not actually want to defend the grenth temple. It seems counter-productive given my previous 2 suggestions. But as it stands a majority of players dont do events in orr outside plinx, and those that do, pretty much never bother defending the places they capture.

Seiran... So much yes!

Oh, and in another part of the priory, you’ll be an ultimate kitten.

This quest bugged out on me twice, forcing me to restart it twice after finishing it.

I was not in the least bit upset.

Why we getting turned down for dungeons!?

Elementalist is probably one of the best classes you can bring. I’d almost rank them alongside warriors. The elementalist key is versatility, which can be incredibly important in dungeons.

Here’s an example of a specific dungeon path, often considered one of the hardest (Bonus points for figuring out which one!)

1st boss – avoiding a melee spin attack.
elementalist counter to it – Ranged, cripple, freeze, weakness, swiftness, protection, ETC. Most other classes, especially melee ones, only have a few of the above, and they’ll be needing to switch weapons (which they may not have brought) to do it.

2nd boss – immobilize, knockdowns
elementalist counter – Ranged (specific to this boss, being ranged makes it way easier because of the mechanics of the knockdowns + most damage in the fight) having AoE also helps (also specific to the fight. The immobilize is binding roots, so lava fonts can de-immobilize your entire team with ease, also things like burning retreat let you de-immobilize yourself without needing to retarget, or spend any time on a skill.)

3rd boss – mass AoE confusion (25 stacks applied all at once to the entire team)
Elementalist counter – condition removal that doesnt require skill usage (I remove a condition from the entire team every 10 seconds if I need to, Also its essentially instant cast so even auto-attack spamming teammates couldnt kill themselves before I removed it. Our strategy was literally to ball up on me and let me handle the boss mechanic. Very few if any classes could do this portion themselves. Most of them do not have the same level of condition removal, and especially not AoE variants on the same cooldown as an ele does.)

4rth boss – typical bossfight of dodge and spank. Nothing really to say besides reflect being pretty cool. TBH the worst boss for ele in this dungeon path, as every other class should have an easier time surviving with their better armor and hp.

5th boss – requires non-projectile attacks. Requires you to be able to solo 2+ monsters at any time. Requires you to be able to sustain yourself while taking constant damage. Being able to go immortal for a few seconds helps big time.
Elementalist counters – every ele weapon has non projectile attacks. Solo’ing is a piece of cake if you’re good at it, and most (not all, but most) ele’s are seeing as they have to be. Sustain is easy with heals, and mist form covers the immortality.

6th boss – Damage and lots of it
elementalist – Another boss where ele falls off compared to other classes. But the AoE does help bunches, as the boss can be tricky to target properly, especially with ranged attacks.

7th boss – clusterkitten supreme
The last boss combines specific mechanics from the previous 6 bosses. Of course, having an incredible variety of what your character can do helps make this fight much easier, as specific trait/weapon set-ups that countered the previous bosses cant be used as effectively (as it draws from every boss at once) of course, ele has versatility and variety in spades. Not to mention staff had everything to counter every boss by itself.

Ele is very good at dungeons. Nearly every boss that isnt just dodge and spank has some crippling flaw to it that an elementalist can take advantage of, despite their weapon choice and trait setup. Now there are indeed dungeon paths that at the end of the day a full DPS comp would blow through in no time at all, but even then those dungeon paths are easy enough that team-comp means essentially jack kitten.

That’s… really weird. But thanks for the heads up. I guess im off to do that now.

I did believe that the name was perhaps a title rather than a bestiary classification based on the lack of hydra’s. But that is not keeping in line with anything else I would have thought of.

is there some specific lore or large event chain associated with her that I must have missed? Seems like a weird boss to just give an achievement to :/

In my opinion - World first: 10k achievement points

@ vel

Im not really sure how im PMS’ing. My first post has disdain because I assumed he did it by simply clicking in his inventory for a few hours. Which isnt worth any level of congratulations. Now I just feel sad for him, as he’s gone and wasted his in game gold for something he could have done for free <.< Which is also not something you typically congratulate people on.

Rich nodes

@ everyone besides the OP.

I assume he means he is only able to get 3-6 ori from a rich ori node. Rather than the 10-20 that you can get.

This is a problem with the rich ori nodes (usually the one in the EBG jump puzzle) that only let you mine them once before becoming tapped out. Rather than the 4 times every other rich node lets you mine for.
