but then the immobilized elementalist swaps to water and is no longer immobilized

edit: ninjaed by long post

WELL, sir. 30 in water means that every cantrip removes conditions.

For starters if he’s 30 in water then he’s running essentially full tank, and you probably shouldnt be dying to him. But I digress.

Cantrips are utility skills, the fastest cooling down is 36 seconds, and that’s lightning flash, which is often used, offensively, to tele the elementalist to you mid churning-earth.

However, 36 seconds is still longer than 10. Indeed, you can have the ele blow it, and go through THREE water attunement rotations before it’s back.

If your build is tank, you shouldnt be dying to him.
If your build is glass cannon you should be able to burst him after he uses his cooldowns
If your build is somewhere in the middle you should probably accept that a heavily specialized build played by someone who has to manage 23 skills, 20 of which have 2 cooldowns each, practically flawlessly, deserves to beat you. And even then you can probably still kill him, or get away safely.

immobilization.

Every time I die, its because I was immobilized
every time I watch one of these videos where the ele rolls faces, I cant help but notice he only ever gets immobilized once or twice, and always at the wrong times.

There is nothing more devastating to a D/D ele than being unable to move.

Now a D/D ele has about 4 choices for condition removal.
3 of those are in the water attunement.
the last one is a utility skill that he may not be using.

He attunes to water and then switches out of it. Youve got 10-15 seconds to do whatever you want to hit. Him hit hard, hit him fast. Try to keep your range because he doesnt have any.

The crucial thing is bursting him down in those 10 seconds. Enough to cause him to want to flee, that’s when you immobilize him. Not just that, but immobilize and lay on a bunch of other conditions too. If you do it right, he’ll be immobile even after switching to water, now’s your chance to bring it on home with the damage.

The ele is very squishy, lowest hp and armor of any class in the game. Outside of the water line there is exactly 1 skill that is defensive (on D/D) and that is the shocking aura. You have about 10 seconds to play havoc with the ele. It’s important to note that the ele probably will be carrying 2+ defensive utilities. However these will have longish cooldowns. If you can get him to pop them early on, wait for the attunement swap, and then damage (while immobilizing him) you can most likely burst him down. While downed it’s simply a matter of not dying to him while getting ready to stomp after he mist forms.

Regarding Rata Sum, if you really know what you’re doing, you can get to the polymock arenas

(not that you can do anything there yet)

Another fun place to visit is Salma district in non-instanced mode (you can get there by climbing over rooftops). It’s… quiet there.

Anyone figured out a way to get into the collapse? I keep wanting to see what’s down there.

you can go to a lot of places in rata sum, lots of weird angles that can be climbed, even on the cliffs by the water if you’re willing to swim.

As for the collapse, I havent found a way in yet, giant invisible walls as far as the eye can see (or er, cant)

how does ascended gear bridge the gap

The problem is you’re looking at it the wrong way.

Say you get your vial drop.
It will run you about 50g to buy every mat for the backpiece.
Then another 30-50g for the infused
and another 30-50g for the infusion
(assuming you spend no fractal tokens for any of these steps)

so 150g and 1-2 RNG items. For 1 ascended piece.
But, compare, what does a legendary cost? 120g, 1.2million karma, ETC ETC. You all know the costs by now.

The issue that occurs is that there is currently only 1 type of legendary: the weapons. Compare how much effort goes into a legendary. Imagine if there was a full set of that, armor, earrings, amulet, ETC. Now compare to the ascended set. See how it would fit in the gap between exotic and legendary?

If there were ascended weapons that cost 150g. Would you consider them in the gap between exotic and legendary weapons? Probably. But because the only current ascended pieces are backpacks and rings, and you have no legendary to compare them to besides the weapons, you see no gap and thus complain.

Now, is it a kitteny system? I think so. I dislike the RNG nature of it, and the stat advantage that it gives, but it certainly does fill the gap.

I was 100% fine 2-3 days ago.

But now I literally cannot beat even a single fractal (DC within 7 minutes, 100% of the time, last 20 times ive tried)

And i’ll also randomly DC when attempting to waypoint somewhere. (though this occurs far less often, and is usually not that big of an issue.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? (tried rebooting my pc, restarting my router, re-installing GW2, making sure my drivers were updated, directX was updated ETC) the ONLY thing I can think of is that it’s on Anets end.

as far as I can tell every fractal exists in the same “map” for lack of a better word.

If you jump from dessa’s lab you die. But if you jump off while disconnected/lagging, you can fall through the mist before it downs you, and see what is below. (Spoiler: the swamp fractal) below that is another fractal and so on.

You simply found a way down to an area that holds a majority of the texture resources for the fractals. o.o

Guild wars is disconnecting my internet?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

About 2 days ago I started to experience the strangest thing. My internet would be stable, indeed, fully connected 100% for hours.

Then I would attempt to play guild wars 2.

For a time, it would be fine, but then I would disconnect. At first I thought it was simply my ISP, as the disconnections were usually infrequent, and seemed to have no correlation.

However, recently upon attempting to do fractal of the mists i’ve concluded it’s guild wars 2. As soon as I attempt to do FoTM my internet will disconnect, within about 3 minutes of entering the first fractal. Its important to note that it is not GW2 crashing. But my ENTIRE internet disconnecting.

I have vent, steam, MSN, firefox, ETC all running fine, for hours, I log into guild wars, and within the hour my internet disconnects (firefox wont load pages, vent craps out on me, ETC.) I log back in, another DC within 10 minutes. I stop playing guild wars and the internet is fine for 2 more hours, no interruptions. Log into guild wars and try to do fractals, disconnected within 3 minutes, repeat attempt at logging back in and re-entering fractals gave the same result. Stopped playing guild wars, internet was fine for an hour, attempted more fractals, internet disconnected within 5 minutes.

As far as I can tell this is not a problem with my PC (rebooting has no effect) my router (restarting has no effect) my graphic card (every driver is up to date)
Problem started occurring on sunday. I was fine the entire day sunday, and early monday morning, but after I went to sleep and woke up on monday the problems started.

It’s currently at the point where I can literally keep Guild wars 2 on the pre-login screen (like, the launcher is open but I havent clicked log in) and my internet will fail to connect. Close the launcher, and suddenly the internet is fine again.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

What sort of skills and or class can remove his defiant buff, and please dont say crowd control.
Playing a warrior and I none of the skills I have seem to remove them

hard CC, usually not tied to the traditional conditions.

Anything that would knock him down, stun him (NOT immobilize, stun, it’s different) I’ve also been told that fear can be used to interrupt his heal regardless of defiant stacks (as fear is a condition, it ignores defiant, but the fact that it would force him to move ends his heal) so Fear me could be used.

Try a hammer if you’re still having trouble, IIRC it has at least 1 knockdown on it, put that one utility that knocks down on, as well as fear me. Then you have 1 garunteed heal stopper, and 2 moves to reduce defiant stacks, or interrupt as needed.

The jellyfish has several neat attacks, but the way we damage it is still just normal damage the whole time. You could perhaps make the electric lamp things around the arena hurt the jellyfish too/give it a buff that makes it take more damage. Now players are rewarded for kiting in 3 dimensions, as well as risk/reward of standing inside the electricity.

Spoiler alert: They do! It’s just a bit difficult to perceive, but if you leash the jelly into it, it actually takes some pretty severe damage. It also hurts the spawned jellies.

That aside, my boss designs are an area that I would do well to improve upon.

That’s good news!
I think you still may wish to add a buff icon, even if it does nothing but say “Jellyfish is taking damage from the electricity” as the damage can be practically unnoticeable (unlike for example the dredge suit, in which he gains a buff, a visual effect, and obviously your damage spikes)

Someone earlier suggested bosses from Zelda or Dark souls make good inspiration. I would like to add monster hunter to that list, I find almost every boss in that game has interesting attack patterns, all of which are almost essential to dodge, which is a crux of the GW2 combat system.

@Zenyatoo: I’ve never had an issue with traps in EBG JP… they never seem to be active, and the only one that other players ever seem to mess with is the beast cages in the arena area.

@ZoiN: Does the teleport have the same limitations as the shadowsteps for thieves? Can’t go over gaps, can’t ascend plains?

the traps are activated by players. Also people can place things like necro wells to ensure they screw you over. For example, placing necro wells on the spike pillars that are mandatory to jump to (unless taking the RTL shortcut) can prevent basically anyone reaching you at all.

Now, this has no indication of difficulty, but both swamp and aquatic are easy as heck, and the fastest fractals. Whenever I see them Im more than happy.

Eesh, I built both of those… guess I need to toughen them up a bit…

My suggestions would be the make the boss fights a little more involved. Im a big fan of the wisp running, and the luminous plant portions. They both require heavy amounts of teamwork, and a parties completion speed relies on how well you work together.

The boss fights however are a little less involved. Mossman doesnt seem to have a mechanic beyond “hits you pretty hard if you stand next to him” Bramblethorn is a little better with his spirit spawning, perhaps make them do a little more for him, I know when I see a spirit my first thought is not “kitten I need to kill that” but instead “yeah I guess I can auto it a few times”

You could perhaps make the electric lamp things around the arena hurt the jellyfish too/give it a buff that makes it take more damage. Now players are rewarded for kiting in 3 dimensions, as well as risk/reward of standing inside the electricity.

Changing the bosses into more involved fights would probably push them up both in difficulty, time taken, and imo fun.

I do wish to make it clear though, both the swamp and the aquatic fractals (and indeed all the fractals) are pretty kitten amazing. But I for one cant wait to see what else you guys can come up with ;o

fastest fractals in order from most to least
swamp
aquatic
urban
Deep sea
volcanic
snow
uncategorized (move this one up past snow if you skip the harpies)
underground(dredge. Move this one up if you get the cannon route and the ice ele. Put it above snow.)

Me and my party did it this way

1. find who he’s aggroed on.
2. everyone moves under the brown circle
3. have 1 person go to lever, who is not aggro target
4. pull it. Boss is now superheated and taking TONS of damage from your attacks
5. IMMEDIATELY begin moving backwards to the next brown circle
6. strip his defiant stacks ASAP, you want him at 0 defiant stacks before superheated ends
7. When superheated ends, the boss usually tries to heal himself, he “shuts down” and starts to regen, interrupt this
8. continue to lure to next brown circle

rinse/repeat. Depending on DPS it takes ~4-5 superheats.

The same strategy works for the ice elemental version too.

The issue isnt range, it’s line of sight.
Picture this, imagine you are an ele. You know exactly where the arrow cart is, but when you go to cast your spell you can only select the top of the wall. Not ONTOP of the wall, but the top of the wall. This means that unless the arrow cart is within the back half of your AOE circle, which you cant even see (Spoiler: it’s not if they placed it properly) you cant hit it.

This occurs regardless of your distance. Certain placements were completely immune to any ele skill regardless of your proximity to the wall.

Indeed, they were immune to any skill that required line of sight to hit the target. Of course, mesmer phantasms were not affected by line of sight. Meaning that mesmers, were basically the only class that could hit defensive siege that was placed properly. Clearly imbalanced, perhaps not from an offense vs defense standpoint, but more from a class standpoint. If 1 class can do something that no other class can, and it’s not billed as a class feature, then there’s imbalance.
The same

It’s funny you mention this, because doesn’t the ele meteor shower (and some ranger skill?) not take vertical range into account? By this I mean it can hit targets that were outside of my 1200 iBerserker vertical range. So using your logic that mesmers should not be able to hit defensive siege that others can’t, should meteor shower also be nerfed because it can hit siege others can’t because it doesn’t obey a vertical range of 1200? Let’s QQ to nerf meteor shower because it is an anomaly.

Nope, MS and barrage have their own ranges that they cant ignore (which, AFAIK is actually the exact same one as Izerker. So yeah, if I can hit it with meteor shower, you can probably hit it with Izerker, which is (imo) how it should be. Rather than what it used to be, which was, if I could hit it, so could you, but you could hit things I couldnt.

Im glad Anet is finally getting around to actually putting the classes on even fields when it comes to what they can/cannot do.

Im kind of glad since this was a ridiculous power to use.. a Mes could target you from distance, run to the wall of a tower and toss illusions up on you then run back. The illusions THEN could sit there and destroy every siege on the wall and players unless you stopped, left your siege then killed it.

Right, because no one ever kills Illusions in 1 or 2 hits…….who would ever think of standing there, watching their seige weaponry getting smashed on screaming at the sky because Illuions have taken over….

Godlike Illusions?

Those illusions could easily hit siege no other classes aoes could

The skill has range, not unlimited…..

So if we could cast our illusion on it, which first required a target, that means ground based AoE’s could hit them also.

The issue isnt range, it’s line of sight.

Thoughts?

Quick overview of some of the major changes.

The good:
Ride the Lightning: This skill should now track moving enemies more reliably.
Magnetic Grasp: This skill should now track moving enemies more reliably and end correctly when you reach your target.
Ether Renewal: This skill’s cast time has been reduced from 4.75 to 3.5 seconds. There is no change to the total amount of healing.

The bad:
Evasive Arcana: This trait no longer creates unintended blast finishers.
Mist Form: This skill now works with the Water Magic trait Cantrip Mastery.
Healing Ripple: This skill’s scaling with healing power has been reduced by 50% in PvP only, as it had scaling that’s normally reserved for main healing skills. The maximum number of targets has also been reduced from infinite to 5.
Tornado: Leaving this elite skill now removes the stability it grants in order to make it consistent with other elite transformation abilities.
Conjure Frost Bow’s Deep Freeze: This skill now applies 1 second of chill per pulse, preventing extreme stacking of chill on a target.
Conjure Frost Bow’s Ice Storm: This skill now applies 5 seconds of bleeding per hit instead of confusion.

The new:
Flame Axe: This weapon now grants the wielder power and condition damage.
Frost Bow: This weapon now grants the wielder increased condition duration and increased healing power.
Fiery Greatsword: This weapon now grants the wielder power and condition damage.
Magnetic Shield: This weapon now grants the wielder vitality and toughness.
Lightning Hammer: This weapon now grants the wielder increased precision and critical damage.

the RTL fix is a godsend that’s for sure. I dont know how I feel about the changes to the conjure skills, especially fiery greatsword, seeing as only one of the moves gives a condition that does damage.

I just have a few questions that people may know the answer to about ascended weapons. Sorry if these have been answered somewhere I couldnt seem to find anything with the search (it gives me back 0 results for some reason)

1. are they random drops from the fractal, or rewarded based on some metric (completed section/run, tokens, ETC?)

2. From what I can tell, the upgrade slot, and the stats are “intrinsic” in that if an upgrade would give say 20power/14vit/14 tough, the ascended gear would have that built into the “base” stats is this correct?

3. Assuming #2 is correct. Is every stat combination possible? Because that seems, absolutely mind numbing to me. If we assume #1, 2, and 3 are correct. If an ascended piece drops for me, there is a 1/3 chance it’ll be the right armor type. 1/6 chance it’ll be the right armor piece, 1/12 (I believe) chance that it will carry the correct base stats, and then 1/12 chance it’ll have the correct intrinsic stat. Which seems… ludicrous to me.

just some quick yes/no/we dont know yet answers would be much appreciated.

Volcanus - Any tips?

in Crafting

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Start doing your orichalcum every day. Depending on your server, look up a map of where they all are (12 nodes in all, 5 in cursed shore, 5 in malchors and 2 in frostgorge) get all of these every day.
Pick up ghost peppers along the way, sell the orichalcum, the orbs, any ancient wood, or omnomberries you picked up.

Do CoF everyday. path 1 and/or 2. Even after youve got your gift of baelfire. If you have extra tokens you wish to get rid of, trade 30 tokens for a piece of rare gear and salvage it for ecto chance to sell.
Do SE everyday. Path 3 right now is your best hope.
Do your daily and your monthly every day/every month
Get the eldritch scroll asap from lions arch

You will most likely have everything but the moltens and the destroyers by the time you get all your ghost peppers, at which point its time to do some math.
shards become cores which become lodestones. Keep this in mind.
For example, if cores are 50s and lodestones are 1g 50s it’s worth it to mystic forge rather than buy straight up.

50s + 50s (both cores) + 25s 60c (elonian wine) + 2s (crystalline dust) + 1 crystal (3/5ths of a skillpoint) = 1g 27s 60c which is less than 1g 50s. Saving you money on lodestones if you have extra skillpoints (which you probably will)

Depending on how longterm you plan to make this goal here are some benchmarks

250 ghost peppers – 20 days (assuming you get about 15 ghost peppers a day, which is what I usually get per orichalcum run)
1 eldritch scroll – 25 days (assuming you are doing path 1-2 CoF and path 3 SE every day, that’s 2.1skillpoints a day)
100 mystic coins – 2 months ( 30 days a month = 30 coins + 20 for the monthly. Means 2 months for 100 coins)
180g – 4 months (If you’re getting your orichalcum, your daily, and a path or two of CoF/SE every day this should work out for you) This should probably be enough to get you quite a lot of your lodestones

Overall playtime every day – It will probably take you about 30 minutes to do your orichalcum, 30 for your daily or so, and then an hour for the CoF paths. 2 hours every day for about 4 months.

What are these influence gifts?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

They are consumable items. You recieve some via the storyline quests. But you can also buy them from an NPC with gold.

Double clicking them adds a line in the history that says “Gift was purchased”
Then the next time it calculates influence gain (something like every hour or half hour I believe?) it will include the influence from the gifts, as well as any other influence earned.

For instance, say I finish my personal story and use the gift it gives me
first the history will say

Zenyatoo purchased gift of influence
then on the actual influence portion it would say something like
1 events completed for 1010 influence
and if you scrolled over it
1 dungeon was completed for 10 influence
1 gift of influence purchased for 1000 influence
and it would then update the guilds influence to reflect that.

Also different sets for different builds.

Last halloween taught me that if you don’t have gems, you won’t be getting anything really cool or fun; it’s pay to have fun so that is why I need gold in preperation for future events.

If I could convert karma directly to gold, I would. Karma is worthless to me until then.

Like I posted earlier. Buy karma weapons and shove them into the mystic forge. You’ll get actual weapons back that you can put on the TP, sell to vendors, or salvage at your leisure. It’s the only way to directly convert karma to money that im aware of.

the badges from chests scale based on level.
At 80 I believe it’s
EBG 14-20 per completion
borderlands 4-10 per completion (there are 3 borderlands jump puzzles)

you can do them once per character per day.

Also, the “emerald pendant” has power/tough/vitality on it. Costs something like 15g to make, but you wont have to farm the 700 or so badges for the invaders amulet.

Best use of karma if you're geared?

get 4 green shank daggers from the shank anchorage karma vendor.
Throw them in the forge.
Receive either a normal green dagger, or a yellow one. Neither of which will be soulbound, both of which can put listed on the TP, sold to a vendor, or even just salvaged.

It’s not exactly great returns, but if you have literally nothing else to spend your karma on it can give you back some amount of money.

EDIT:
dont do this with shank swords, or accessories. Accessories give back nothing, and shank swords for some reason give back blues and greens rather than greens and yellows.

Condition Dmg/Vitality/Toughness

it would be hilariously strong.

The fact is tough/vit are the only “tank” stats. But power, precision and crit damage are the “damage” stats. For most characters. As no armor set has all 5 stats on it, you cant possibly be full tank and full damage at the same time.

The problem is for certain classes, such as the necromancer, or even specific elementalist builds, condition damage is ALL their damage.

condition damage/vitality/toughness would give them both full tank, and full damage stats. Which would mean that there would be no incentive or reason to run literally anything else.

You mean just like how any other class can already take power/vit/toughness and call it a day, if they want to?

Not to mention the breadth of condition removal that runs rampant in pvp.

“Letting players actually get the stats they want for their characters would make certain classes overpowered,” means that they did a horrible job creating the classes. Arbitrarily making a class take sub-par gear for their build isn’t the proper way to balance the game.

Power alone wont make a tanky character do more damage than literally any other set (assuming its the proper stats for the build setup) whereas condition/vit/toughness would give exactly equal damage from a majority of a players damage compared to what should be the damage set (power precision condition damage)

EDIT:
If they were to implement this gear, the best solution would be to
A. lower condition damage slightly
and then
B. add new gear stats targeted towards high DPS from conditions. Gear with something like condition damage/condition duration/toughness or something. That way you would have a tanky condition set, and a DPS condition set, which is more in line with standard sets.

my biggest concern is that to me, both abyss and black wind up being more purple than I would like. There is literally no dark black color for some of my gear. It’s all very dark purple.

Is Sorrow's Embrace Supposed to be This Hard?

essentially path 1 had a mechanic that spawns wave after wave of mobs, this was avoided by many players by simply keeping 1 enemy in the wave alive, have someone kite it around near the waypoint area out of harms way, this prevented other waves from spawning, this was considered an exploit and has since been fixed.

however the original problem was not fixed, the waves of mobs are insanely tough to kill and now you have no way of preventing the next wave from spawning making this route absurdly difficult, more so than it should be because of a silly mechanic and the oversight of actually fixing the problem in the first place by making the enemies weaker in the very least, bringing their massive HP pool down.

Path 2 afaik hasnt been touched, it’s not particulary difficult but it does take a fair bit of time to complete.

just avoid Path 1 until the devs change something hopefully for the better, do 2 if you need the achievement but if your after the Tokens just farm path 3.

They changed the path 2 boss. And then a red post confirmed it bugged. Apparently the golem that shoots lightning is now shooting them far more often than it should, making the final fight about 1000x harder than it used to be.

DR with dungeons.

I believe it because you are clearing the paths too quickly. It’s something like, if you finish an explorable path within 20 minutes of finishing another path it gives you the DR.

My suggestion would be to take a 10 minute break or so after doing an AC dungeon path if you breezed through it.

Yes it’s not a perfect solution, and yes the system is a bit silly. But it’s the best way to avoid the DR in my experiences.

Oh and, be sure to do the fastest paths first, as you wont get DR for finishing too quickly, unless you preceded that run with a different run.

Hey, this post is only really relevant to FA players but since we don’t have a server sub forum I’m posting it here. I have been looking for the source of these rumours surrounding the “massive influx” of “200 players” we have received that we never seem to see in WvW. I finally tracked down who this “Rush” guy was in-game and this is my conversation with him.

As a side note – I believe the Euro guild [Asg] may be joining us today so be sure to give them a warm welcome if you see them out there. (even weirder coincidence? I got one of their members in the screenshot by accident.)

P.S. – The “maybe 100 man” guild is LLAC. I think they send about 10 people to WvW for 3-5 hours during NA early morning. I haven’t seen a bigger group than that, feel correct me if I’m wrong. – Monster Madness is their commander.
P.P.S – No, we’re not Japanese in [PRO], nor do we put 70 members in WvW. In fact, as a rough estimate 90% of our members reside in the USA. Also, given our name is “The Protectorate of Aspenwood”, no, we didn’t recently transfer over lol.

Wait did he call PRO japanese? I know ibludgeon used to be part of the night crew, but that doesnt make his guild japanese :o

great advice! was thinking that but then I would leave my guild behind no?

Not exactly. While on the other server you are still in the guild. However you are unable to earn them influence despite representing.

You will also be unable to go through maps with them unless you enter an overflow of that map (which may not be possible)

you can however do dungeons cross-server with ease, which is a pretty big plus.

transfer to a server that is currently stomping hard.
Map all 4 area’s 100% assuming you havent already
do all 4 jump puzzles
wait for reset
do all 4 jump puzzles
wait for reset
ETC.

You can do all 4 jump puzzles once a day, per character. Badge reward scales based on character level. If you have at least 1 level 80 you should be getting somewhere between 28-40 badges per day doing this.

It’s not glamorous, but it is efficient.

you could buy karma gear and then mystic forge it to receive normal gear
(non-soulbound, sellable, ETC)

Then sell, or keep as you see fit.

hit up the 12 ori nodes every day – gathering done
do a single plinx while you’re there – events done
^ – kills done (head to shelter or something if need be)
kill variety is probably best done at metrica if you have to grind it out. (the reactor)

“I’ve never had a problem on Oozes, undead, elementals, ghosts, fish, spiders, and the slew of other mobs you can find in Orr.”

The fish are all risen IIRC, so they dont count. Same with the spiders. There are also no ghosts in cursed shore unless the spectral things count, which I dont think they do.

Risen, elementals and ooze are the only 3 kill varieties available in cursed shore. If you head to malchors you can get ghost from the spirit things I think. But that’s 4 of 15 between both zones.
