I went in and solo’d urban fractal today (at fractal level 1) for a bet. Got 2 vials.

I always seem to get them in the urban (ascalon) fractal more than any of the others.

Fire Elementals and Molten Lodestones

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

the ones in fireheart rise are not 80. Thus they will not drop lodestones (I think)

The best spots for them are in Orr actually. The event in cursed shore, the gladiators arena, spawns several “ember motes” these have a pretty decent drop rate of them.

Also if shank anchorage is contested, when you go to retake it there are infinitely respawning fire elementals.

Other (good) sources of molten cores/lodestones are CoF. My friends routinely get buttloads of them (one of them got 3 lodestones in 1 run. Yes, I wanted to slap him.)

You can also try fractals, the underwater fractal in particular seems to give them at a very good rate.

elite skills

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

back when it didnt stun and instead petrified it was hilariously strong.
Because petrify has no counter. You cant stunbreak it. You cant move. And you cant skill.

The duration was shorter than most stuns maybe, but 3 seconds of stun is worthless against any class carrying a stunbreak skill or trait.
It probably doesnt deserve to be an elite anymore, but the way it was, was just too strong.

Oh and, useless elites thread? Go play an ele ;__;
I can summon a sword that removes the entire reason to play my class (5 skills instead of 20, all aimed at doing nothing but damage, but most of them require me to dip into melee range without defenses. kittening genius.)
I can summon an elemental that takes 1-2hits then dies. It’s also weaker than a kittening ember consumable item.
And I can turn into a slow moving tornado that removes all of my skills, and utilities (and thus defense) turning me into a larger, squishier, slower moving, and less damaging target. This was apparently so strong that the underwater version of it got nerfed because all the other classes were having trouble finding their dodge keys (of which a single use gets you out of the area of the attack, and free to lol at the ele as you kill him at 700range while he floated there uselessly)

I just started getting into WvW. My only problem right now is people being “obstructed”, but they can hit me. -.-

Other than that, I can’t wait for the fractal change, reward system, and them to start improving boss encounters.

the knee high walls are absolutely stupid.
They block nothing, you can get pulled over them, and if someone is standing at a non-perfect spot (which is always) your character shoots straight down into it and gets obstructed.

Defenders on the walls should have an advantage over the attackers, not the other way around. A knee high wall should NOT be stopping my “vision” of a ram at the gate that I can clearly see. (I die a little inside when I see “not in sight range” of something that’s less than 10ft away and clearly within the range of my skills)

Actually the defenders do have an advantage. Most classes (more than 4) cannot hit a defender on top of the wall, while the defender can shoot down.

Also the knee-high wall does keep you from getting pulled (I know, I pull people all the time). It’s when players stand on top of the knee-high wall that they are vulnerable.

I think LoS on walls is annoying (which I think is your main point). If you can shoot down, players should be able to shoot up. You already have the advantage of only being hit by ranged which does less dmg (even further reduced when AoE corrections are implemented in the future).

Nope. The walls prevent me from shooting down all the time. Go take an elementalist up to one of them. People directly below you cannot be hit by any AOE you place on the ground (which is pretty much all of them) They also cannot be hit by the autoattack, as it arcs directly into the knee high wall while attempting to hit them. Meanwhile those people can easily shoot up at you because their projectiles arc over the wall.

D/D cant hit anyone from the wall, S/D can only do it with very few skills, and staff you can only hit people if you jump up on the walls, in which case you get absolutely pooped on by

warriors – rifle > you
rangers – Bow > you
Other eles have an easier time hitting you and can strafe your shots while you cant do the same (you’re stuck on the small as wall)
Thieves – that bloody cluster bomb has hit me more times than I can count
Mesmers – Chaos field, Izerker (this one gibs you pretty quick as you’re stationary, and I believe it wont move off the leg high wall, so it gets all hits on you) hell even spatial surge, oh and ofc the pull
Engineer – Rifle or pistol pew pews you
necro – wells, or even just auto attacks will again hit you
guardian – scepter, or any ground based AOE

Every. Single. Class. Can hit you when you’re at that wall. But unless you directly expose yourself to their fire you cant hit them back as an elementalist. That’s stupid. Defenders should have the advantage, I shouldnt have to make myself an easy target (with far less mobility to dodge AOE no less!) to hit the attackers.

uh its probably more like the current infusions that you can craft that have additional stats. Like the hearty infusion which gives +5 vitality in addition to the +5 agony resistance.

We go back to the (now contested) waypoint only to find at least 20 kittening people standing there scratching their balls wondering why they cant get through the rocks in the way.

25 steps to the west. That’s all we needed from any of those players up there but they wouldnt do it.

What Dungeon compositions work well?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

that’s have something to do with half the playerbase not knowing how the gw2 combo’s work

Or with over half the combo’s being absolutely freaking useless.

I die a little inside whenever a mesmer throws their useless bloody ethereal monstrosities over any of my fields.

Fire – Might
Ice – Chill (66% slower attack and movement speed? kitten. Yes.)
Lightning – Vulnerability (Extra DPS which is always warranted)
Water – Heals and regen. It’s pretty much impossible to go wrong with that.
Ethereal – Chaos armor for like 4 seconds, which gives me a random boon and the monster a random condition, IF I get hit. So not only do I have to take damage, but then the benefits are random. Note: I already have basically every boon in the bloody game due to being an ele, and the monster is probably already conditioned up the wazoo. Or confusion, which is hilariously underpowered in PvE

Other fields arent much better. Smoke is probably the best beyond fire/ice/lightning. Because blind is crazy good if youve got a whole team spamming it with projectiles. Dark isnt as good despite the blind, as you need to waste a blast finisher on it, which makes it a 1-off thing rather than constant as long as the field is up.

Light is meh, the only goodness from it is condition removal, which again indicates that your team is being hit perhaps a tad too often. Also if you have an ele in the party simply standing next to him usually removes 2+ conditions every 10 seconds.

Poison is also pretty meh. More poison for the poison god! Poison is a great condition, but if you’ve placed a poison field, you’re probably a necro, and thus the monster is probably already perma poisoned…

Basically if you’ve got a smart ele in the party he completely invalidates every single other combo field unless your class happens to be thief or engineer. If you dont have an elementalist, your combo fields are all mostly useless. It’s pretty much a lose/lose.

Combo fields dont make boss fights any easier unless they’re coming from an elementalist who gives you 15 might stacks all day long, and even then you might as well just run a warrior and tell him to use for great justice every now and then, he’ll more than make up for the DPS loss.

how many ticks does the jade maws agony do?
At level 20/22 the jade maw leaves me with 200 hp if I burn 2 heals on my ele, despite me having 15AR.

From your formula I should have only been taking 3,125% per tick, which would be 30+ ticks to kill me, clearly this isnt true. o.o

What do you think about Elementalists?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

1 is absolutely amazing
2 can be fun times if they’re working together but it usually bad
3 is far too many cooks in the kitchen.

Ele’s have nearly unparalleled utility, but they lack raw DPS or survivability.

Staff grants them the highest survivability due to range, and also some of the best utility regarding control effects, party heals, and combo fields. It is however lacking in damage. It’s probably the best weapon to use if you absolutely cannot stand near an enemy, and is my default for most dungeons/fractals.

Dagger/Dagger brings the hurt, but it’s all about the boons. A D/D elementalist is looking to give you every boon in the game if you stand next to him. They can also be much tankier than you’d suspect (100% up time on protection will do that.) The damage outweighs staff easy, but if you’re not skilled with it prepare to get pooped on by a majority of monsters.
I’d suspect Dagger/Dagger to be the reason people often dont like ele’s. It’s a bit flavor of the month right now, so lots of (bad) players are trying it and getting murdered.

Scepter/Dagger is an oddity to me. It’s probably the strongest weapon set in terms of damage. But it can be very unwieldy to use, quite a lot of ground targeted clicking that needs to happen in fast order (you have done button mash until you’ve done ring of fire, dragons tooth, phoenix, fire grab, arcane blast, earthquake, churning earth in about 3 seconds under timewarp.) It’s further range would normally lend it to being the better survivability choice over D/D, but ive found that I actually do not survive as well with it, perhaps im just bad, but I feel like the lack of instant freeze, the second quick heal, the shock aura, ETC makes it a little more dangerous despite the range.

Most people unfortunately dont notice the elementalist or his skills, as a lot of them rely on supporting teammates in not super obvious ways, and the damage is usually not anything to write home about. But they are certainly useful.
Part of the problem is that ele is the hardest class to play well. The skill ceiling is… hilariously high, and a lot of our utilities and elites are absolutely terrible, pigeonholing us into the same builds.

HotW bosses - sons of svanir or icebrood?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

thought this was obvious but maybe not to everyone. the simplest way to tell is to look at the vendor for the particular dungeon. whatever slaying potion he sells and/or sigil is on the weapons he sells will tell you what is the correct “type”, in hotw’s case it is svanir. this counts for EVERY mob/boss in the respective dungeons, wether its icebrood or svanir or pokemon, if its in hotw you want svanir slaying.

Doesnt always hold true.

Any hint of upcoming changes to CoF?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Honestly they need to look at why this path can be done quickly, and change it without making it obscene.

The reason the path can be completed quickly is a dearth of nessecary silver monsters combined with a very short actual physical path.

Simply increasing monster hp, or locking doors may slow down the instance yes, but it wont make the dungeon more fun, and will hurt players who arent speed running.

My suggestions would be the following
1. make it more important to deal with the effigy on the first boss. Perhaps make it make him immortal if it gets too close. This wont hamper (overly) a normal group as they are taking the fight slowly anyway. It will slow down speed runners by forcing them to either lure the main boss away (at which point they’ve shown enough skill that they deserve an easy fight) or also kill the effigy
2. Force players to fight the bridge boss. Normally im averse to doors, but normal groups dont skip the bridge, only the speed runs do, so just shut a door on the farside of the bridge until the bridge event is complete.
3. Change the trash monsters in the acolyte room to normal instead of silver ring. Make the acolytes spawn when the trash is dead. (so the acolytes and trash spawn at the start, you kill the acolytes, then the trash, then more acolytes and trash spawn and so on) as it is currently, even normal groups usually just hide, as there is absolutely no point to fighting the trash, not too mention too difficult. This would slow down both groups, but players rarely have an aversion to fighting normal monsters, especially if they drop loot (HINT HINT)
4. Make the boulders spawn quicker. As they are now, mesmers are jumping over to the other side before they spawn. If they spawn immediately this becomes impossible, and everyone does it the normal slightly slower way, skill at timing becomes more important than speed.
5. The gate control segment is harder to balance, the outside 4 players are fine, its the one who goes to smash the control that makes or breaks it. Honestly I think the hellstorm should be toned down to a normal monster it’s too strong for most normal groups imo. If I had to change this, perhaps make the gate control go immortal until the outside players did something else besides stand in the circle, for instance at 75%, 50% and 25% of it’s hp make it go immortal until the 4 outside players all move out of their circles at the same time or something. Give the outside players something more to do, and slows things down for speed runs, but not normal groups (as normal groups usually have to take the control panel much slower, and thus the 4 players outside usually have to flee and regroup as they’re dying)
6. The final boss is pretty much fine.

I apologise to DC'ers, but just a though?

Stranger still, some players like myself were perfectly fine in fractals. I made it to fractal level 9 on the second day they came out. I couldnt stay in a fractal for over 3 minutes without it exploding on me. It’s better now, but it’s still not perfect.

JQQ and SBI whining about

portal bombing
basically anything blackgate did

Guess who was being 2v1’d nonstop by JQ that whole time? Hell at one point I watched JQ actively defending SBI supply camps <.<

Is it any surprise at all that now that blackgate is back in T1 that they’re gunning for you JQ? The last time they were here you whined about them all week long, and 2v1’d them whenever you got the chance. It’s only natural they’d go for you.

Not the best tactic mind you, but the expected one given past history. o.o

Glyph of Renewal..can't express rage in type

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

earth glyph of renewal was pretty OP when it could rez fully dead players. It was a staple on my bar and I never removed it. No other skill could anti-wipe a group so easily. Especially as it could be casted in mist form.

There are however tons of bugs regarding it. But my suggestions would be thus:

water: Allow it to rez a fully dead target
air: lower the cast time to 1s 1/4th (which is what it is underwater) make the movement of the target the full range rather than the half or so range it is now
fire: lower cast time to 1s 1/4th. Make the target being rezzed also have the same buff you get. And extend it to 20 seconds.
earth: lower cast time to 2s 1/2th.

Water should be able to fully revive dead targets, whereas the others remain downed only, but with shorter cast times to actually compensate for the fact that normal rezzing is so much better, and with buffed effects for air and fire, so that they’ll actually be useful compared to earth.

Why RNG is good..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

RNG is a terrible system.

Im still absolutely shocked that MMO’s still use it for loot distribution for end rewards of things.

Would it really be so hard to have a rating system of sorts, that (internally, not shown to players) ranks your performance for the dungeon and gives you loot accordingly? The player who died 9 times completing the ascalonian fractal does not deserve better loot than the two players who had to duo ashym from 50% of his hp. It’s foolish to have a nonbiased system when certain players are clearly putting in more effort. Hell it wouldnt even be that hard of a fix. (well, it would probably take time, and I dont expect it to ever be addressed, as it’s really something that you need to implement at the very basic stage of your games design. But it’s not a hard thing to implement at that stage of development)

Thieves in WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Stealth is just a horribly broken mechanic in general. No other method of escape is so undeniably strong.

Even as an elementalist with perma swiftness, ride the lightning, and several slows, knockdowns and immobilizes, players still find ways to catch up to me. But as a thief? Pop stealth and just waltz on out of there. Anyone who thinks you can accurately predict where a thief is running is fooling themselves. At best you know the general direction, but not how far left or right he’s moving. Oh and ofc by the time you see him and can even catch up to him he can just stealth again and you’re back to square one.

Hell it’s rarely even damage. I’ve yet to be 100%‘d by a thief, it’s just beyond obnoxious to watch them jump in, damage me, realize they wont win, and then have a garunteed escape because they can stealth away. No other class has such an easy to use and strong “get out of kittenup free” card. If a warrior jumps me and finds he isnt winning there is straight up nothing he can do to get away. Same for a wide majority of the classes. But a thief? Lolstealthchaining is all they need.

Thieves should be punished more for engaging in fights that they wont win. Im not saying stealth needs to be useless, but I think it should either A. end immediately upon taking damage or B. be delayed when taking damage, for example each time you are hit delays the activation of your stealth for a period of time, perhaps with diminishing returns.

This way stealth can remain a way for thieves to initiate combat, as well as move around unseen to position themselves during a fight, as well as be used as an escape, barring that they use it wisely instead of just popping it inside 4 AoE’s without consequence.

Fastest moving character in the game?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Probably Elementalist.
Movement speeds stack weirdly, and there is a cap. But elementalist…

10% faster while attuned to air (5 points into air)
up to 25% faster while attuned to air (10 points into air)
25% faster passively (Signet of air)
15% faster while wielding a dagger (20 points into arcana IIRC)
Swiftness is found on just about every weapon set. Not to mention on one of the healing skills. Attuning to air can also proc swiftness for some builds, as can using an aura (one of which is also on air.) One of my friends gets 16 seconds of swiftness when using shocking aura.

Oh also ride the lightning defies the “maximum speed” bonus for it’s duration, racing you forward.

The only classes that have any chance of speeding alongside an ele built for it would be thief (infiltrators arrow to blink ahead) mesmer (also blinking ahead) and maybe warrior greatsword (with its dash and spin attacks).

ele’s tie for the fastest passive run speed with their multitude of passive boosts.
They can maintain swiftness forever (as can some other classes)
and then they have access to a skill or two that moves them forward about 1200 range fastest than even swiftness does.

Zenyatoo.4059

No seriously. I want an answer to this very simple question:
What the actual hell were you thinking when you were making the “use” key do so much stuff? How did this get past an alpha test? It’s obscene.

The F key has
Talking (to npcs)
Looting (from monsters)
Picking up (bundle items)
Reviving (teammates)
Interacting (Certain objects)

With NO option to rebind any of those things to individual keys.

Normally this isnt a gigantic problem (except when NPC’s decide they have to teabag your latest kill, causing them to tell you stuff no one cares about when you’re trying to loot stuff) But you have situations where you have to pick up a crucial item, then interact with a crucial object, only to find that you’re stuck reviving your teammate who didnt have the good sense to find somewhere not important to off himself.

Oddly enough, a large majority of these kittenty situations come from fractals. In which there are plenty of key bundle items that players like to die on top of.

Would it really be so challenging to split at the very least, the revive key to something else? It would save so much frustration.

Because it’s hard to do with PuG’s as the torch timing is not lenient at all. Especially due to needed to sync up killing, which can be hard if you dont know the builds people are running.

Oh also it bugs out very easily (unless they fixed it)
Before the first barrage you have to weaken the boss to cause him to fall back. But if you accidentally kill any of the specific charr that are meant to live (and no, there is no indication of which these are) the boss fight becomes bugged and the dungeon incomplete-able, Back to the torches with ye!
Basically a group is punished for being very very good at killing things. Which is bonkers.

The defense circle is ok, but trips up a LOT of groups. Monsters spawn when there is 1 charr alive from the previous group, and charr spawning are usually more dangerous than those out. Failure to anticipate and burst the smokelord is a pretty much instant wipe for most PuG’s.

Then you have the torch running bit, which is hard/impossible for a lot of people I guess? I have literally never had problems with it due to always knowing which of my skills make me immortal for a few seconds. But lots of PuG’s apparently do not, so they run and die and die and die some more.

The final boss is a joke. He balls deeps 1 person on your team, all they need to do is not stand near an edge. The rock spikes also dont cover the full platform, I found a spot to stand where I could literally have afk’d the ENTIRE fight. (Which takes ages btw. Funfact anet, fights where bosses routinely become immortal for absolutely not reason? NOT FUN. It’s a bullkitten lengthening method and it’s absolute trash. Get rid of it, and never include it again. If a boss goes immortal it better be because we did something wrong, or we need to do something currently. Not “lawl boss is becoming immortal now for no reason, hurhurhur”)

In a guild group path 3 is easy. Probably one of the better designed paths in any dungeon tbh. It is however plagued with a horde of design flaws that make it not worth running. Oh and PuG’s will die, over and over and over again unless you get very lucky.

one of the locations that isnt listed on the wiki is a clump of bushes to the far back in the middle area. It’s where I found my first key after absolutely ages of searching.

Yeah it’s an ooze royalty bonus event. It used to be bugged (killing the queen and king did not spawn the larger boss) but they fixed it about a month ago. It’s sadly not really worth doing.

Does anyone actually like this game?

Yes. A little bit.

The problem is GW2 was billed as skill based, no vertical progression, easy stat cap, and “everything is endgame”

This entices a lot of people, because they were looking for something different in an MMO.

However with one of the recent updates, Anet took a massive dump all over the promises they’ve made, and having not fixed any of the serious issues players are having, within a month of them being made, has started to drain any goodwill Anet has.

The game was, and possibly still is fun, but it’s not what it used to be, and quite a few of us are very disappointed in the route Anet has decided to take.

There should be an ‘in my opinion’ somewhere in there. This is not fact, I don’t agree with it, and in my opinion, I don’t think most players do either.

On which segment?

The part about how the game was billed? Watched the manifesto.
On how people were enticed about it? Read the early forums posts
About Anet taking a dump on their manifesto, and not fixing issues within a month of them being serious problems? Read any topic regarding the manifesto made within the past month. And also go do a fractal run, then logout to simulate a dc, and try and get back inside.

About how quite a few of us are disappointed? Perhaps, but I can say with 100% certainty that more than just myself are disappointed. The only thing subjective about my post would be in the words “quite a few” and how you define them.

After two days of trying, I give up. I cannot replicate what the OP did. Y’all must be cheating because I have determined it to be impossible.

It is the top of the sharkmaw jump puzzle. Specifically it is the hallways where the javelins poke through the walls and knock you down (just before the dark room)

As for getting up there. It involves 1 jump which is obscenely challenging. Basically you have to jump, snag on a piece of terrain, and then jump again all within about 1/4th of a second.

Then there’s a jump after that which is basically the same thing, but the first jump is away from the wall, and the second is back towards it.

They’re some of the most challenging jumps ive done, and if I hadnt known it was possible I wouldnt have thought to try it.

Wiki is always right. But +10 is nothing, absolutely nothing.

But, it’s really +60 to all stats with all 6 runes. Add in the fact its +12% crit. dmg. as well… so, a little more than “nothing.”

A tiny stat boost is rather insignificant compared to most of the 6th item perks.

actually im curious. If someone stacked all the “all stat” items would they eventually become far better than normal?

6x divinity
1x Triforge
1x Solaria
1x Lunia
1x Ancient karka shell

Maybe having only slightly more stats isnt worth it. But having many more stats, even if they are spread out more…

Man, I was curious who knew about this besides ghostly, and would be bothered to make a video. Then I saw it was ghostly in the video anyway. Hehe.

FotM 40+ Dredge healing bug?

The dredge are attempting to leave combat by tunneling away because you have blown up the door.

You are keeping them in combat by hitting them.
They are thus constantly leaving combat and healing.

I have no idea how you made it to fractal 40 without ever seeing this.

Aight that took me a few minutes. But I believe I have found the location the OP did. It gets dark as you move closer to the mossy structure.

EDIT: added dark picture.

I find it difficult to believe you got there through nothing but jumping. every time I think I’ve found a path that leads outside the map I’m met with a big fat invisible wall. I understand that the developers don’t want exploits to pop up, but breaking boundaries is something that I thoroughly enjoy.

I know of 2 out of map places that require nothing but jumping.

one in plains of ashford. Near the ash legion camp south of smokestack, you head south, through the ascalonians, and take a right and jump up the tree, then onto the hill, and finally off the map.

And in fireheart rise, from the ash legion camp at the top, go up the hill where razen hangs out, and then leap across, and off the map.

So quick to accuse. They’re dropped from the relevant dungeon boss.

For example plague is dropped from the boss in CM that turns into a living plague.
