So let me get this straight.
You want to nerf the class with
the lowest armor
lowest hp
whose abilities are hit hardest by the 5 man cap which is almost ever present in WvW
the only class who has no fall damage perk (which most people consider to be practically essential in WvW)
The class that is essentially forced into using their worst PvP weapon because the other ones cannot even attempt to hit people outside or inside towers

This is the class you want to nerf? Talk about kicking someone while they’re downed (literally in this case)

Pull out of combat, swap to staff. Idk, I adore my ele in WvW, but no we dont need any nerfs to our downed state.

That’s hardly a good solution though. We’re the only class that needs to leave combat to switch to a different weapon if our team suddenly decides to attack or defend anything

They need to hire a community manager, who actually talks to the community. Like, how hard would it be, to get someone who maybe like, once a week, makes a forum post, and answers questions. And if they dont know the answer, they go to a dev, and ask, and get one, and come back. No doublespeak, no obfuscation, just plain answers. That would really go a long way to fixing a lot of concerns people have.

It's time to admit FotM has failed

I feel like people forget that the game has been out for less than 5 months.

This happens with every mmo. Everyone is not only a person playing the game but they also have all the answers as to how it should have been developed.

Many mmo players approach games as thought they should be released as if they had been an 8 year old title.

The fact is though. Some of the issues with fractals show a level of competence far below what was expected of Anet, given their past history.

Reconnecting from disconnects was something Anet fixed YEARS ago. Every dungeon in this game allowed you to go back in. Only fractals has failed that. I dont think people would be even close to as mad about the constant DC’ing if it wasnt wasting literally 45+ minutes of their time.

The whole RNG thing is something that Anet said they wouldnt do. For every other dungeon there was a token system, and for a while before it was abused, chests would drop tokens, meaning that even if you didnt finish a dungeon, you still felt like you were progressing. With fractal RNG, assuming you manage to finish past all the DC’ing you can still end up no closer to your goal (and indeed, having that happen to me 18 times in a row is more than a little annoying)
Also RNG doesnt reward the players who play better. Hell, even in WoW, it rewards them more than it does here. in WoW better skilled players will clear content faster, and be able to repeat it to give themselves more chances at the gear they need. Here in GW2 though you only have 1 chance a day. Playing better, finishing faster, does nothing for you, because there’s no repeat chance that day.

The fact is, GW2 promised to reward skilled players, and not have situations like this. GW2 has managed to create a system WORSE than anything in WoW right now. So it’s not that we feel entitled. It’s that we feel lied to, and kitten on, by Anet, who has put in a system that they said they would never do, AND that would have been ancient and still kitteny 10 years ago.

Infusions and "Offensive/Defensive" slots

Make a little more sense now?

Not really. While all that information is great, I already knew that and understood it. What is bothering me and so many others from what I’ve seen with the search function, is the relic purchased infusions. They are supposed to be cheap and easily accessible it seems but currently it looks like this.

Defensive slot – Defensive infusion = 75 relics
Offensive slot – Versatile infusion = 225 relics
Omni slot – Defensive infusion = 75 relics

So if you have an offensive slot ring, or back you are forced to shell out 3x as much relics as anyone with the other 2 slot types. But you get the same exact stats! Now I’m ready to buy my infusions but I’m wondering should I be waiting till they add an offensive infusion to the vendor or should I just buy the Versatile?

That depends on whether you direly need the agony resistance.
You could also infuse your backpiece. Infusing is different from adding an infusion, in that infusing adds innate agony resistance to your item.

Take your backpack
250 ecto
1 gift of ascension
1 glob of mist essence
to the forge. That will infuse your item. It wont use up the infusion slot, but it will give you additional agony resistance.

If you still need agony resistance after that, then yes, you should consider buying the versatile infusion, or making an offensive infusion.

The problem people are having is that we havent identified a large number of infusions yet. So everyone is confused.

There are 3 infusion slots
offensive
defensive
omni

There are 3 types of infusions
offensive
defensive
versatile

Offense goes to Offense
Defense goes to Defense
Versatile goes to Offense, Defense and Omni
Offense and Defense go to Omni

Offensive infusions give offensive stats, for example, the mighty infusion gives +5 power
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mighty_Infusion

Defensive infusions give defensive stats, for example the vital infusion gives +5 vitality
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vital_Infusion

Versatile infusions Can give either defensive or offensive stats (I believe.) Currently the only one I know of is the one that simply gives agony resistance. I would assume that versatile infusions cost more/rarer materials to make than defensive/offensive counterparts
Example of a versatile infusion:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Versatile_Simple_Infusion

Almost every ascended item has a duplicate with the same stats but a reversed infusion slot. For example, the red ring of death and the crystalline band. The red ring has an offensive slot, and the crystalline band has a defensive slot. Thus anyone looking for the “most damage” ring would choose the red ring of death, as then they can put offensive infusions into it and gain additional damage stats.

Make a little more sense now?

no runes will give you more power, precision crit damage. Some runes may give you More stats overall (divinity) or possibly more damage (scholar, infiltration, ETC) but ruby orbs will be the most power, precision, crit damage.

There are also 3 piece of ascended gear that have power/precision/crit damage

1. the book of secrets – backpiece. Power/prec/crit damage + power/prec/crit damage
2. Crystalline band – ring with p/p/c + p/p/c
3. Red Ring of death – ring with p/p/c + p/p/c

Zenyatoo.4059

huh, would anyone know if the trinket to be made is soulbound? or soulbound on use?

I believe it’s soulbound on use. I’m making this assumption based on the fact that one of the Twilight Arbor recipes makes a Condition Damage/Precision/Toughness ring which can be sold on the TP (for quite a bit due to the rarity of the recipe).

AKA – if you find the recipe and are willing to farm the ingredients, it looks like you’ll be able to make some serious dough.

Some specific ones to look out for
bloodstone amulet – Power/tough/vitality. The only amulets with these stats are the emerald pendant (current worth: 45g) and the invaders amulet which is 700(?) badges of honor.
AFAIK this drops from the final boss of path 4 arah. Good luck.

Nightmare Coil – power/tough/vitality. The only ring with these stats are the invader ones. I see buy offers topping over 10g for this thing. Based on the name I assume it’s from the Twilight arbor dungeon.

Badges of Honor Drop Rate vs Gear Cost

in WvW

Zenyatoo.4059

It’s not hard if you do the jumping puzzles, but I agree that the drop rate is too low.

There’s something wrong with the fact that if I do all 4 jump puzzles and then spend the entire day playing WvW, I’ll have gotten more badges from the jump puzzles.

Also the gear is just ugly:

Doing all 4 jumping puzzles gets you about 18~ badges a day, how is this even a remotely decent income of badges? You need about 20 days of doing jumping puzzles (80 jump puzzles) to get 1 piece of gear out of 13.

badges scale based on level. I get ~18 badges from the EBG one alone.

It is however pretty ridiculous. Keep in mind though that the invader amulets and earrings and necklaces have power/tough/vit. To my knowledge there are 2 amulets with those stats. One is the emerald pendant that costs about 45g, the other is the bloodstone amulet that most people dont know exists, and can only be made if you get an exotic drop from the last boss of the hardest path in arah, to date I know of no one with it yet. The rings have a same-stat-sister in some exotic ring that you only get by crafting after getting an exotic drop from TA I believe. Again im not sure if anyone has this one yet either. I dont think there are power/tough/vit necklaces.

the necklaces/earrings/amulet are priced about right imo.

Boss aggro tables are too boring

Zenyatoo.4059

Dunno. We used to run arah several times a day every day. While he did like to focus one player, it was always 1 of 3. And we have nowhere near the same levels of armor (guardian is about 700 above me, and im 400 above our necro) And his auto attack would always be random. Even when he was shadowstepping nonstop to other players he would fire auto attacks at me. Im not really sure we’re overkiting, we never leave ~1000 or so range of him o.o

I dunno, I dont think bosses really “keep me on my toes” even if they are going specifically for me. Take lupicus, even shadowstepping at me, he’s still piss easy to kite. Likewise for every other boss that comes at you and you specifically. Single target attacks are rarely hard to avoid. I think the benefit is far less than the hurtful impact.

you know, imagine if say, well, lets use lupicus as an example. His specific target needs to run in a big loop, and roll when he shadowsteps. That’s it. I very rarely ever see this attack kill or even hit people. What does kill people is his AoE attack, or the lupine blasts. At the end of the day, im not sure it will really keep people on their toes, as single target attacks are very easy to avoid (they need to be, otherwise anyone with aggro is just boned right out of the starting gate)

Good design, terrible implementation

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Zenyatoo.4059

Can we all agree on this?
I for one think that just about every fractal is well above average. Their completion time is short and sweet. Their difficulty is good, as is the ability to make it as difficult as I want by going up in ranks. Just about everything is as near to perfect with the actual fractals themselves.

But my word the implementation is ridiculously bad. Like, what the actual hell were you doing when you were putting them in the game bad.

1. Disconnection issues – For starters the fractals are unstable as heck, people who have never had disconnection problems with the rest of the game suddenly cant even do your content. This wouldnt be so bad if not for 2.
2. no reconnection – I dont even know what to say to this. You clearly tested these fractals ahead of time. Someone wrote a guide before they were even released. How did this happen? This is something you guys fixed YEARS ago in guild wars 1. It’s absolutely shameful. Worse still not only has it not been fixed, but as far as I can see you’ve given the community no indication of what’s going on
3. Ascended gear – This ones a bit of an eh kind of thing. Lots of people dont really like the concept of it, and feel that it poops all over your own manifesto. it’s been debated to death though, so we’ll stick to the main problems with it that are topic related which are 4. and 5.
4. RNG – This is such a kitteny system. That’s really all there is to say on the matter. I have no idea what compelled you to do this besides some kind of sadistic streak.
5. single location, multiple distribution – The only way to get the gear is to do a singular instance, which as per 1. and 2. isnt possible for some people and as per 4. is possible, but not likely for others.
6. Rewards? – Loot is fine, despite there being an issue with higher fractals not rewarding as well as the lower ones. Im talking more about influence with guilds, as in, guilds get absolutely zip from fractals. Also a dearth of karma, neither completion nor bags of wonderous goods. But tbh this section is really nitpicky, and not exactly a real issue
7. Lack of communication – I could accept not telling players about your plans for problems for a week. Maybe two. But anywhere after that just looks plain bad. It shouldnt be a complicated answer to any of these questions: 1. are you going to allow players to reconnect to the fractal if no, why the hell not? If yes, why havent you done it yet? If it’s difficult, why is it difficult? If there’s some issue with it that’s occurring because of something you’ve done to accommodate players, then let us know! 2. Are certain elements (such as the rings) supposed to be RNG. If yes, then I dont know what to tell you, because holy kitten, that’s such a terrible way to do it, and I hope you’re planning to change it. If no, why havent you fixed it yet. And so on. The fact is Anet, we like your content, and we like to experience your content, and when we’re blocked from doing that for some reason (whether it be disconnections, or RNG gods hating us, and so on) we’re going ask you what you’re doing to fix things, and non-satisfactory answers, and being tight-lipped dont do you or anyone any good.

I dont mean to make this sound like a whine thread. I know it does, im sorry. But, I mean, look here’s another example.
Someone posts about their RNG issues. Robert responds. Not to console them, or tell them anything positive, but to say “hey I changed title of your thread” Now robert, I dont specifically know, how much power you have in Anet. But I suspect it would have been trivial for you to have asked a dev, if they’re working on the RNG issue And then saying that, in the thread. Like, you dont even need to give them a status update. Simply saying “We’re looking into it, and im sorry for inconvenience” goes a hell of a lot more towards making your players happy, than saying nothing. Like, not to point fingers, but, it’s almost like you went out of your way, to make that player less happy than he was. and that boggles my mind, because making players happy is meant to be your job. Happy players are infinitely better than non happy players for Anet as far as I can tell.

Would it really be so hard to make a post addressing current player concerns, once a week if you dont have a large patch? I know in GW1 you had a community manager (or several) whose entire job was basically logging on and answering questions as best they could. I know of several other MMO’s who try to stay as connected to their playerbases as they can, and their players are much happier because of it.

At the end of the day, any communication is better than none, and that’s really the most important thing to take away from this post.

Zenyatoo.4059

I disagree. Bosses targeting specific players is good.

Also, I dont think you’ve done lupicus enough times. I dont have nearly the same armor as my guardian friend, and while yes, on average lupicus will target him, he also goes for other players too. In phase 2, his shadowstep target seems randomly assigned at the start. He shadowsteps to me or our necro just as often. As for his mass AoE, that obviously goes for everyone, and he auto-attacks us with lupine blast at his own discretion.

Now in Phase 3 he most certainly focuses 1 target, and this one I will agree is usually the highest armored person there (he has a few times gone for our necro instead of the guardian, but that is rare) However, given that phase 3 is an absolute cakewalk anyway, and if he went for the non guardian we’d all just laugh at him and walk through his bubble anyway it’s really not important.

The fact is, this would increase the difficulty of several bosses. But only for groups that are not already at the level of repeating instances several times. If that makes sense. It’s like, I know you probably didnt mean to sound, or seem elitist, but thats what this change would do. Skilled players wouldnt really notice any difference besides occasionally having to move in a circle sometimes (and that’s really all you need to do to dodge about 95% of bosses single target aggro). But non-skilled players suddenly find themselves wiping far more often.

I can definitely see why you may think that bosses are become stale. And I do agree, that it would be nice to find a way to make them more exciting on repeat attempts. But I believe that this change would hurt many people just to make certain fights slightly more intensive for a small subset of people.

Just to make sure, are you sure it was the glacial blade, and not jormags breath?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jormag%27s_Breath

If it’s the glacial blade. Then im afraid I dont know the recipe for it. But I do have some suggestions.

1. Get glacial lodestones (they are called glacial lonestones in the trade post)
put them in the mystic forge
2.Try and find items that go along with them that would make sense for the sword. It’s important to note that there is already a recipe that uses
glacial lodestones + mystic coins + eldritch scroll + corrupted lodestones. This makes a dagger, so dont use it. Instead I would suggest trying something like orichalcum sword blades in place of corrupted lodestones, or perhaps ectoplasm.

You do not need the right amount of items, 1 of each is enough to display a potential recipe.

If there seems to be no recipe with those materials then you may be in trouble. As its possible that it will take the gift of ice instead. The gift of ice requires
250 orichalcum ingots
100 glacial lodestones
100 corrupted lodestones
1 gift of sanctuary
10g for the recipe and 400 jeweler.

With the gift of ice you go back to the mystic forge and once again try recipe items. There are currently 2 items that use the gift of ice, both of them bows, taking 1 eldritch scroll 100 mystic coins 250 orichalcum bow staves and the gift of ice. Again, I would theorize the blade taking orichalcum sword thingies if it requires these components.

Good luck.

In other words, pretty kitten useless.

Not only do you have to be lucky for it to proc but also choose an enemy that clobbers you down into it´s precise window of operation.

It works quite well on foes that kill you via strong degeneration. As you have a higher chance to proc it and then block their next few attacks. In place like fractal of the mists it can be a life saver, as the agony will usually proc it, automatically blocking any attack the boss would throw at you next, giving you time to heal.

Not even the difficulty (usually) it’s just far longer than almost any other fractal without added loot.

This, so much this. That fractal is just too kitten long. My suggestion would be just to get rid of the head and chest seals and remove the archdiviner altogether. The hardest part would remain the arm seals and given the difficulty I have had getting people to work together to complete it that fight deserves to be the boss fight.

That or make the chanters and such drop loot, and then have killing them damage the seals somewhat (such that they cant be farmed forever) and then for the arms or something just keep it at 0 loot. That way when you’re donking the chest seal 10 times or whatever the monsters dont feel practically pointless to kill.

Not even the difficulty (usually) it’s just far longer than almost any other fractal without added loot. Compare it to something like dredge. Cliffside and dredge both take similar amounts of time, but I routinely leave dredge with ~20-30 heavy miner bags, usually netting me around an extra 60s-1g in T6 mats. Contrast that to my all time record of 5 bags of stolen goods from cliffside and the time taken to do it compared to the loot is just blah.
Then you have fractals like swamp or aquatic, which have similar amounts of loot to cliffside, but go by about 3x faster.

path 1: just make the kittening patrols spawn when you break the kittening gates. It’s been 3 months. I cant actually kittening believe anet hasnt done this yet. I seriously cant. It fixes EVERY concern they have with players skipping trash monsters, and it enables to dungeon to actually be done by teamcomps that arent balls to the walls crazy. Is it seriously so difficult to trigger monsters spawning in specific locations when other monsters die? I cant believe so, at all. Fire any developer who says it cant be done because they’re clearly bloody incompetent.

path 2: cut the trash. The foremen need to not have the trash with them. 4 champions is enough. The pop ups when you get the rock should have a more even split of elites to normal monsters. Likewise with the patrols near taskmaster. Everyone skips the ones in the mines anyway because it takes way too bloody long. No one will be upset if you change some of the monsters to non-elites. No ones gonna cry about it. Normal and veterans work just fine in FoTM. Hell, they’re about 1000000 more fun to fight that’s for sure. And last I checked, players having fun is the top priority when it comes to making content. Also tone down the final bosses assuming you havent already. They were fine beforehand, now they’re just kittening silly.

Path 3 is fine. But there’s a weird disconnect issue that happens in the hallway right after the dredge carrier. About 80% of the time I go through that hallway it straight crashes my entire computer. No idea why, but it’s rather obnoxious. That’s my only beef with path 3 through.

Drop rate of Rings from FOTM unfair.

RNG is RNG, why are you guys so impatient. I assume getting rings is to progress further in the dungeon? Otherwise, I don’t know why you need it so soon. They said they’ll make more ways to get it other than the dailies/drops. Just move on and come back when it’s more available.

It is preventing advancing . At fractal 20 getting touched by agony will down and often times kill you if you dont have agony resistance. (and the previous posters have mentioned being at fractal 20)
Obviously the solution of “dont get hit” becomes much harder when agony can be applied by attacks that literally cover the entire floor, and last longer than even 2 dodge rolls. Or attacks that track you while you’re dodge rolling, forcing you to have split second timing to dodge roll right as they hit you or face annihilation.
There’s even an un-dodgeable agony during a boss fight which will down and then kill you, even if you use 4 heals during it.

On the other hand, a single RNG drop, either of a ring, or a vial (which enables you to make a backpack) can cut this damage in half

Now, could you in theory advance without 0 agony resistance? Yes. And people have. But you do so at the risk of being a burden to your team at basically every boss fight, boss fights in which you have to play essentially perfectly, as taking a single hit from them means you are downed, and in some cases instantly dead.

It’s an absolutely ridiculous system.

Mesmer = easy mode.

Annnnnd… Guardians, Elementalists, Thief, Warriors, and Rangers can also reflect. WHO DUN THOUGHT O’ DAT ONE?!

Also, pretty much all of them are better than Temporal Curtain reflect as it doesn’t hit anything.

Distortion reflect lasts 4 seconds at most and only affects bombs aimed at you, Mimic would be really awkward, Mirror is the same as Distortion, and so you’re left with Feedback and Phantasmal Warden (which can’t move).

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_warrior_skills

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_warrior_traits

There is only one trait that has reflect.
Missile Deflection Reflect missiles whenever you are blocking.

(which requires you to use a shield which means that eliminates one ranged weapon)

now read mesmer ability:
Freeback:
Create a dome around your foes that reflects projectiles.

You are right its just the same if one bomb bounces off a character who is blocking vs surrounding the entire monster and making him eat bombs for 6s vs 3s for block.

In other words its not viable to even do this with a warrior since he has to be hit with the bombs.

Oh and lets not forget mesmer traits.

Create a feedback bubble while reviving an ally. (10s recharge)

(you do not even have to worry about bombs when you are reviving people in this dungeon as a mesmer if traited right)

Regardless my point was that necromancer and engineer are the weakest and the dungeon was not well balanced. You have not countered that point

WHO DUN THOUGHT O’ DAT ONE?!

While perhaps necromancers are not altogether “optimal” for dredge, they’re pretty kitten good at snowblind, volcanic, and cliffside. Enough to the point that i’d consider taking them over a few other classes given the options between the two.
As for the dredge suit. Make your necro pull the levers. Then he wont need to be hitting the boss anyway. And in the event that it screws up he will be the first to know, and will be more than prepared to give the boss a fear to cancel the heal should the issue arise.

While reflection is blatantly strong against this boss it’s just as strong against other bosses which I never see come up ever. Hell on lupicus phase 3 a guardian can chunk him for over 70k damage by reflection walling his AoE. Yet ive never seen anyone praise guardians in that fight for anything other than their tank prowess.

There’s also a myriad of bosses that have bomb or reflectable projectiles. And bosses that spew out conditions like crazy, which are basically hard countered by most tanky ele builds, or necro’s, but poop all over classes without good condition removals.

tl;dr
yes necro’s are perhaps not optimal because of how condition damage interacts with dredge. But there are plenty of other places where they shine, both in and out of fractals. That’s why team-composition is important (despite the manifesto of “you can play with any team and get it done!”)

How do I get to the Arah Dungeon?

I would just like to give a more concrete explanation of how to open arah.

The arah is at the arah waypoint, but if the pact does not control the gates then you cannot enter.

There are 2 stages that define taking arah imo.
pre shank and post shank

Pre shank are the events leading up to the taking of shank anchorage. In order you must
1. take penitent and shelter waypoints. – This is easily done, and to my knowledge has never once become uncompleteable
2. take jofasts camp – This has bugged out for me once before, jofast vanished enroute to the camp
3. escort the crash survivors to meddlers summit – I have no idea what triggers this specifically, but this is the event that bugs out often, and causes arah to be closed. Basically an airship crashes south of meddlers waypoint, the survivors must be escorted there. They frequently disappear or stop moving in locations that will not allow them to be killed. If this has occurred on your server you must wait for the next server reset (a patch or maint) and then immediately head to the crash site to ensure that they are safely escorted.

4. The taking of shank anchorage. – If the previous 3 things have been accomplished then warmaster chan in meddlers summit moves out. Escort him to shank anchorage and take it by destroying the altars and the boss that spawns.

5. Post shank, pre events – After you reclaim shank anchorage there are 3 events that I call the “pre-events” these 3 events often run concurrent with each other, and all of them are prepping for taking arah, they are
a. gather scrap metal
b. escort didi to her golem
c. help angaria signal for reinforcements
you have 9 minutes to do any of these. You do not have to finish any of them to continue, they are optional, however finishing them make the actual arah event easier

6. assault on the gates – after 9 minutes, or the completion of all 3 events the arah assault starts. First you capture the steps by killing the giant. Then you capture the prominade by keeping monsters out of it until the bar fills up (this is the hardest part of the 3 events) finally you kill the risen high priest. Once the high priest is dead the gates of arah open up, and the pact makes a base around the waypoint such that players zoning in will not be immediately under attack.

7. failure – If you fail to finish one of the assaulting the arah events you must rush back to, and defend shank anchorage. Failing to do that will push you back to meddlers, where you must once again wait for warmaster chan. Successfully defending shank anchorage means that the pre events will once again be up shortly.

Sadly most of these steps will require several players. I would not suggest assaulting arah without at least 10 people.

EDIT: im not 100% sure, but I believe once you have finished one event, despite its status you should be able to constantly attempt events beyond that. For example, once you have taken shank anchorage, it does not matter what occurs at jofasts camp, as the pre events will still start themselves. Likewise if you have captured the gates of arah, then it does not matter what happens anywhere else on the map so long as you defend them.

there is something similar to this called an underflow, which is where if the map has too few people you can be prompted to join an underflow, which enables people on that map to join a cross-server version of the map (basically an overflow in reverse)

It’s been suggested quite a few times already, and I do hope Anet plans to implement it.

Ive taken well over 2million. But im afraid it may be difficult to replicate.

Basically do fractal of the mists, then on the level with the colossus, when you reach the wind heads, jump off the side. Im not sure how I did it, but I bypassed the “instant-downed and teleport” thing and fell, and fell, and fell, and fell, couldnt even see my character model. In fact, on my screen I was back where you go if you do get downed. But I was dead. And strangely enough still taking damage. About 20 seconds later my “body” must have hit some floor, because I was struck for slightly over 2million damage, while dead.

Assuming you can replicate it, its probably the furthest possible fall, even more than mount maelstrom or rata sum.

vapor form doesnt prevent conditions from hitting you does it?

Use a pull skill when he hops down (and yes, you should really have one on your bar for keep siege). He downs far from the gate. Cripple, freeze, or hell immobilize him. Lol at the now dead ele.

end of story.

Oh and that’s if his vapor form doesnt bug out. Sometimes it just simply wont let you through the gate while it’s active. It happens rarely, but if he’s spamming it constantly, well, it’ll happen eventually and he’ll be boned.

Is it pretty cheesy? Yes.
Is it unbeatable? Hell no. Not by a kittening longshot. It’s countered by snares, which every WvW’er should knows all of his classes by now, as snares are really kittening good in WvW. And pull skills, which admittedly are more niche, but oh hey look, said niche is the same one where the ele will be doing this!

Question about the down scale mechanic

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

When you are downscaled it downscales your armor and weapons too. But not to the same amount.

Basically a level 80 with full level 80 exotics downscaled to 30 will have more stats than a level 80 in full level 80 rares downscaled to 30. And both of them would have more stats than a level 30 character. As far as I can tell gear is also not downscaled as much, such that a level 80 in full level 80 rares downscaled to 30 will still have more stats than a level 30 in level 30 rares.

it’s also important to note that certain stat combinations do not exist at low levels. For example, the bezerker set (power/prec/crit damage) exists at low levels, but is often missing the crit damage component (making it simply power/prec) or sometimes missing both prec and crit damage. Even downscaled, a level 80 would obviously have more of these stats than the lower level, as the lower level doesnt have them at all!

Likewise, upscaled characters will have far less stats than a typical level 80. This can be seen quite clearly in WvW where a level 80 character in full exotics will seem practically invincible to players who are not also fairly high level.

Explain the difference between offensive/deffensive

infusions have rarity just like normal items. There are fine (blue) masterwork (green) rare (yellow) and so on. Currently we only know the recipes for certain fine infusions, and have access to the ones the fractal trader sells.

ascended gear has infusion slots, offensive, defensive, and I believe also omni?

Offensive infusions go in offensive slots, defensive in defensive, anything can go into omni, and versatile infusions can go into any slot.

Offensive infusions will typically have offensive stats, for example one of the current infusions you can craft has +5 precision +5 agony. Whereas defensive infusions have stats like +5 vitality and +5 agony. Versatile infusions can have either stat, I believe we currently know the recipe for a versatile +5vitality +5agony infusion.

The fractal seller currently sells 2 infusions, both give +5 agony. However 1 is defensive, and the other versatile. The defensive one is cheaper. This means that when creating a backpack, or acquiring a ring, unless you are specifically looking to craft an infusion with other stats, a defensive slot will allow you to use less fractal tokens.

As time goes on, we may either discover, or be introduced to higher rarity infusions with better stats, at which point choosing offensive or defensive infusion slots will matter more. But as of right now, there’s almost no reason to choose an offensive slot over a defensive one outside of cost.

I did not spend any gold on it.

So… you accidentally made one that had an offensive slot instead of a defensive slot? Is that what you’re saying?

I made it offencive by choise.
I used 40 crystals, instead of 240 philospher’s stone’s.
Crystals giving offensive.
Stones giving Defensive.

I dont fully understand your point. Do you mean that Offensive is useless / worse?

If you use a defensive slot you can buy the defensive infusion for 75 fractals rather than needing the versatile one that costs 200 something.
it just saves you fractal tokens in the short run. The long run is a different story.

Fractal of The Mist Influence

Zenyatoo.4059

Fractals dont count as dungeons.
Some fractals have events which will gain influence, but IIRC only volcanic and maybe urban have them.

You could in theory ask your guild groups to return to dessa’s lab over and over until they start on volcanic, it doesnt take that long, and will ensure that your guild still receives at least some influence while people do FoTM.

FoTM is really pretty dissapointing. The fractals themselves are well designed for the most part, and quite fun. But the implementation, from the ascended gear, RNG, dc issues, influence concerns, hell just about everything that isnt the actual fractal itself was done horribly horribly wrong.

All of these blackgate are now guilty of cheating. This server apparently have no self respect taking advantage of these ports coming exploiting mesmers. Pathetic blackgate, pathetic.

Calling out an entire server for cheating based on the supposed actions of what could have been one, or only a few people who were actually involved, is misplaced and incorrect. Keep in mind that if a player sees “take the portal” in chat, they likely will, without any idea of where it’s going or how it got there.

Like all servers, BG doesn’t condone cheating and takes reports of it happening seriously. I’ll make sure someone that has the ability to look into this sees your post and screenshot. Your shot doesn’t necessarily prove anything (screenshots rarely do) but at least it’s something to go on. If indeed some form of exploit took place, I’m personally sorry it happened.

While I would usually agree with you, (and I am currently on blackgate) if you look in his screenshot you can see that almost everyone there is from the same guild as this supposed mesmer. While normally you cant fault a zerg for taking a portal (You will never see 50 people stop to ask “hang on mate, is this portal legit?” before entering) you can probably assume that most of these guild members knew the portal was going to be inside the keep, whether they knew how it got in there cant be determined, but I know if one of my guilds mesmers told me he had a portal inside a keep with all gates and walls up the first words id be saying would be “Ha, nice, howd you get inside?” and if I didnt like his answer i’d be sure to investigate and kick him immediately if there was any foul play.

the fear doesnt last long enough to make him move that far in the wrong direction.

Also, as the suit can only heal if he isnt superheated, the necro can just position himself behind the suit anyway, as rushing to the next bucket isnt a giant concern anymore, so much as preventing the heal.

ele hitting firegrab for 13k

That was classic. Ive never seen damage on it for more than 8k. That Ele’s build must be very high crit.

He’s getting 20% extra damage on knockdowned foes (and a 10% increase cause his hp is greater than 90%).

also bolt to the heart, extra damage while foe is below certain hp amount.

That 13K firegrab is rather excessive and pointless. As the traits that lead into it require the target to be

1. under 25% hp
2. Knocked down or stunned
3. You at over 90% hp (Both the runes and the water trait)

At which point said enemy is probably quite kittened anyway ;p

Also this combo relies on your opponent not reacting at all during the entire time. No rolls, no stability, ETC. Hell if you tried this on my ele, the second I dropped below 50% hp my earths embrace kicks in and I can roll away even if I was knocked down as I dropped. Or I could activate one of my 3 utilities and lol. Im fairly certain most other classes have similar traits based around either hp percentages, or being stunned/knocked down.

This combo while hilarious to see is practically useless against anything short of an afk/braindead opponent. o.o

Bunker: basically a tank. But it’s a bit beyond that. A bunker build is one that is well suited towards absorbing large amounts of punishment without needing to flee. This is used in PvP, as point scoring relies on capturing certain locations. However it’s hard/impossible to do this if someone on the enemy team is on said location. Meaning that a build which can take plenty of damage without needing to leave the location can secure a point advantage despite being outnumbered. When you see bunker, think tank.

Blink: A blink is basically a teleport. More specifically a blink is a teleport that cannot ignore the Z axis (height) Nor certain gaps, or walls. Teleports can (think the difference between a mesmer portal, which can take people through and up walls and an elementalist lightning flash, which cant go up except in very specific cases, through walls, or even across jumpable gaps)

vertical/horizontal progression: im not too sure on this. If I were to guess, I would assume it has to do with different types of advancement in any sort of environment. In Guild wars I suppose it probably has to do with gear. Vertical progression would be moving up or down in gear tiers, such as going from fine→masterwork→rare. Whereas horizontal progression would be acquiring a different set of the same tier of gear, such as getting a tanky set in addition to your normal one. I could be completely wrong.

PBAoE: Point Blank AoE (Aoe means Area of effect) AoE skills mean anything that hits multiple targets in 1 specific area. Such as the elementalist skill lava font. PBAoE is similar, but the AoE is limited to the area around the caster, examples would be churning earth, fire grab, drakes breath, ETC.

Should I be selling my precursor ASAP?

in Crafting

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

The precursors are currently in a bit of a weird spot.

A large number of them were introduced during the recent lost shores event, which plummeted prices.

Most precursors have now gone back up in price slightly since then. But the current trend may not hold, as every fractal chest has a chance to drop a precursor (which, while small, is still happening much more often than the other typically farmed method of mystic forge and/or orr chests)

As someone mentioned there is going to be another way to get them eventually, which has been hinted as a scavenger hunt that lets you pick the precursor. However I do not believe it is that close in coming.

My advice? Check the price of dawn on the trade post, mark it down. Do this at least once a day for a week. If you’re seeing notable gains by the end of 7 days, consider holding onto it. If its dropping, sell it. And if it’s fluctuating seemingly wildly, well, i’d probably sell it.

there has always been a chance to get them from any chest that could grant exotics as far as I was aware (which used to be the end chests in orr, and I suppose any of the fractal chests)

fractal weapons also drop in fractals past 20.

The dailies past 20 also have a chance at dropping infused versions of the rings (which have additional stats)

Also you probably receive better essences, 1-10 dropped the vials, 10-20 drops the globs 20-30 probably drops the shard things, and then 30+? Dunno. But the higher tier ones will most likely be used for the stronger infusions (as of now we can only make blue infusions. There are most likely going to be masterwork, rare, exotic, and even ascended infusions, all of which will have more, and better, stats than the fine ones) these infusions will most likely require these higher tier essences.

Ive done it with 3 eles a necro and a mesmer, with the mesmer being tank build, the necro not having any idea what his poison skills were (no seriously, the only poison skill he knew he had was corrosive cloud or something?) and one of the ele’s had no DPS set.

TBH the easiest strategy right now is just to burst her down while she’s healing, eschew the sparks entirely. This works best when you have poison in liberal amounts, and time warp. with the above group we couldnt DPS her during the heal, but we could stop her from gaining more than a few % of hp everytime, which meant we just kind of waited for the timewarps. took 3 of them to down her. So any group with warriors, thieves, necros who arent terrible, ETC will have no trouble.

If your build is somewhere in the middle you should probably accept that a heavily specialized build played by someone who has to manage 23 skills, 20 of which have 2 cooldowns each, practically flawlessly, deserves to beat you. And even then you can probably still kill him, or get away safely.

right as a necromancer i got 21~26 skills

15 on bars where of 1 double so 16 or 2 opens up another 5 skills or 4 skills so 20 or 19 + deathsrhoud in and out 22 and 21 + 4 ds skills = 25~26 also why dont i deserve to win vs all those in between people then if i manage all those skills perfectly ? and half my trait tree is bugged ?

If you’re actually playing flawlessly, then you should probably be kitten all over elementalists, seeing as you’ve got
1. tons of cover conditions
2. double the elementalists hp (not including death shroud!)
3. according to you, perfect skill management, in which case read the brief guide on beating ele and you should have no problems.

If you’re still not winning you’re either being outplayed, or you’re not actually as good as you think you are :o
