I believe it only takes the fastest applicable buff.
Also the 25% one is currently bugged.
The only one on there really worth taking is zephyrs speed. One with air is bugged, windbourne dagger has many better alternatives, and signet of air also has quite a few alternatives that would be better.

I have been told 7pm EST. which is 56 minutes from this post. Dunno if thats true though.

Molten dagger or destroyer dagger would be your best bets for a nice red dagger.

Coming from a D/D ele who has spent a good 10 or so hours looking at every dagger skin for one that fits my gear, there are really so few good ones.

finish personal story
get the backbrace of your choice (level 80 green one. It’s something like 4 stats worse than the guild backpacks)
get a fine transmutation stone
use it
select book
select backbrace
skin of book
stats of backbrace
jewel of backbrace

You now have a level 80 mad memories, with the stats and jewel of your choice (can go get another jewel if you want to reslot it)

this bugged out on us the first time we did it, however there is a way of getting passed the door with alot of patience and some teleport skills, Thief Shortbow is really handy here (nobody wants to do hours of work and get 0 reward, do it if you must until the devs fix the door).

second time we did it we never wiped on the boss because of it’s insanely silly mechanic and how easy he is with the right skills or indeed bundle.

reflect his slow moving orbs back at him, you can crit him for up to 92k, fight doesnt last long, and the bundles used to destroy the Orrian Eyes work on him, there are some located just outside the laser room, oddly enough there are no eyes beyond this point either, i feel it’s intended however incredibly silly, but just hug the boss with the bundle/reflect skills and just sit and wait for him to die is the whole fight.

those crystals can break if you reflect too many times with them. Its part of the challenge. if you want an easy boss fight you have to lug them all the way through the dungeon, which is either hard, or requires you to clear most of the trash. As only 1-3 crystals means they’ll all break around 20% boss hp.

interesting, this never happened for us as we ran 2 guardians and planted a Wall of Reflection in the boss for the majority of the time.

yeah, the first time I did it we all had crystals, and so none of ours actually broke.
The second time I did it we only brought 3, as we suspected that worse case scenario I could just solo it as I had done so before (boss from 30%-0% by myself, which is the hardest part of the whole fight) but we discovered that peoples crystals were breaking after taking a random number of hits. We did finish though, by utilizing reflect skills, then crystals, then reflect skills again, and then back to crystals for the final 20% or so. But they do indeed break.

Random single targets attacks are very easy. At about 600 range you can just zig-zag.

The only issue with this is when he surrounds you with AOE and lands an auto right in the middle.

or when he auto attacks and then instantly shadowsteps, causing you to not be able to see the autoattack as he’s covering it.

Honestly the auto attack is really the only part of the lupicus fight that is a little silly.

He shouldnt be able to use it while other attacks are going on, because more often than not a player is being punished for attempting to conserve their stamina by simply avoiding AOE, rather than rolling through it. Or punished because they’re actively looking at the boss to see what he’s doing.

A change to his auto attack i’d like to see would be turning it into say an all party based one. Much like the fire golem from SE, have his auto attack shoot out 5 tracking green blasts, each of which targets a different party member. Give this a reasonable telegraph, and make him not able to do it while his AOE or shadowstep is ongoing. Now players have several options to combat it, including ones that involve the use of specific teamwork strategies, and players dont feel punished for attempting to avoid AOE without just mashing the roll key.

whoah whoah lehova, what’s wrong with mesmers? Reflection skill, time warp, moa form, and condition removal are all you need to justify a mesmer.

I agree. Portal is nice and all but the other necessary utilities needed for dungeons are much better.

Several pulses of condition removal > Portal

Especially considering majority of the people who DON’T die from 1HKO in dungeons usually die from left over condition damage.

mesmers can lay down light fields too actually. Temporal curtain and veil. ;p
Also maybe its just because I run an ele, with 2 AOE condition removals ontop of a 3k heal every 10 seconds. I’ve never really seen a need for anyone else to bring anything besides their own personal one ;o

“It isn’t 2vs1, SBI just has a 3 to 1 man advantage once all the NA people go to sleep.”

If it’s not 2vs1 it should be. There’s a reason there are 3 servers per bracket. The 2 losing teams are meant to double up on the first place team as its the best way to get into first place as you have more potential land to gobble up, and you dont run the risk of the first place server getting more territory and thus point advantages compared to you. This is one of the first times ive actually seen cross server teaming first hand, and it’s what is meant to happen. Most brackets just have clusterkitten supremes with all servers attacking all servers. But if you’re playing for first place, you’ve got to hold your own land, while aggressively attacking first place, even if you’re currently in last.

as for the NA times, the last time I didnt sleep, as in, stayed up till 5-7am EST, blackgate had 660 potential points. So clearly somewhere along the line SBI got it’s euro/asian players in gear and they got into the fights and did well.

I think I need to preface this so that anyone who feels like reading the oncoming walls of text has a bit of a background. Also spoiler, massive walls of text inbound.

For starters, props to SBI. Mad respect. We’ll cover this some more later, but it’s important.

I’m originally from Fort aspenwood. It’s the server all my friends started on. A little history lesson though: Fort aspenwoods first ranked match was against JQ. They stomped us so hard our next match was vs kaineng. After that we established ourselves as the #12 server. The absolute average. Soon after that we actually started gaining speed, until we fought blackgate in the T3 (I believe. May have been T4) bracket. It was then that I realized a few things 1. FA had no co-ordination during most of our WvW life. The commanders on FA are more likely to be found in Orr or LA than anywhere else and 2. we dont like spending money. Watching Blackgate field 8 times our siege everywhere on every map was interesting to say the least. I realized that FA had been winning because we had population rather than anything else. We were beating servers like Maguuma or Dragonbrand, SoS or SoR, simply because nighttime rolled around and we had 690 PP’s. Size was our strength, and the moment we met a server just as big as us we got crushed. That was it.

I did eventually transfer to blackgate, as it’s where my dungeon running guild is located (and for those unaware, if you arent on that server you cant gain them influence even if you represent them, which wasnt cool when they were the guild I spent most of my time repping, so I hopped over) I’ve spent the past 3 matchups on blackgate, and they were… not exactly fun. Quite a few stomps, and no real way to identify servers based on their size or strategy.

But then we got moved into the T1 bracket. Yes I thought, now we’re going to see some true co-operation, co-ordination, and determination. I was happy to see BG take an early lead, and I came on the forums, and was met with a horrifying sight. T1 players were complaining about strategies and tactics that reward co-operation and co-ordination. Strategies that had been used by EVERY server in EVERY other bracket for the past 2 months. I actually quit WvW when I saw BG at 660 PP’s. I was sorry for SBI and JQ, because to me, it seemed as if they made it to T1 because of their size, rather than their playing. If they were complaining about the “metagame” which had been around for over a month, especially one which was beating them, then they clearly didnt deserve to be T1 servers.

BUT
but. SBI did something. They took their QQ, and they channeled it into their pewpew, and slowly but surely they took the map, and the lead. Mad respect, total props. SBI has adapted to the situation, and they’ve proved they can 1. overcome adversity and 2. beat out BG, they’ve met the tactics/strategies, and they’ve countered them in some way. That’s all SBI had to do to get my respect, was play the game, and play it well. I havent seen a QQ post from SBI in over 24 hours, so, good job to SBI, looking forward to all our fights to come.

im a little disappointed still in JQ still. SBI players are saying you’re failing to take any of their stuff, which is a little sad, especially because it means you arent playing for first. As the current rank 1 server, who has been rank 1 for so long, and by so much that even when winning the last bracket you were losing rating for not stomping hard enough, you’re apparently not playing for first. And if you’re not playing for first, im not sure why you’re playing at all. And yes, playing for first would mean attacking SBI, as they’re currently in first place (and you can prove that with math)

Right now I expect good things from SBI. I do. They’ve proven that they’re capable of co-operation, co-ordination, determination, both within and even across servers (teamed up with JQ to attack first place in order to reach first place)

I would like to expect good things from JQ. But until I see some of those blue icons turning green, im not too sure I can respect, or expect anything from them. Youve got 2 days, there’s a lot you can do in 2 days.

Here’s to hoping.

go do a dragon event that zooms out your camera
go to character select
wait until the event ends (give it ~20 minutes, maybe go make a sammich or watch some TV)
get back ingame

enjoy your new zoom. Lasts until you log out again.

This also works with lupicus, but thats a bit of a long distance to travel and then give up at. I know I was using it in MK all the time though, get the chest then character select and boom. (if you do it during the dragon event you have to basically be in character select when the event ends, or it’ll unzoom your camera)

I havent actually looked at the completed achievement. But tier 2 was 3 dungeons. I dont suspect tier 3 (the final tier) will be much, if any over say 5 dungeons.

I find it absolutely inconceivable that you would be unable to find a party for say, CoF path 1. Or AC path 2, 5 times within an entire bloody month. It takes less than 10 minutes if that to actually get a party, and path 1 CoF takes like 20 minutes to finish. If you cant put in 30 minutes of your day into guild wars, 5 times in a month, well, then I dont really know why you are aiming to do your monthlies in the first place o.o

My entire guild was expecting something more like 1-10-20 for the monthly, we were surprised when we hit tier 2 of it within an hour and a half of our daily AC runs.

“I have solo’d camps”

I wasnt aware this was considered difficult. You can do it as staff too o.o
Run in, get aggro, drop a meteor shower and lava font at your feet. Switch to earth for reflect (needed for the scouts) switch to water to freeze and heal. Air to static field and roll backwards (stuns them, keeps them from damaging you for a short period, and keeps them in the meteor shower) back to fire or earth as you want (either for more damage, or to cripple them as they come at you.

Use armor of earth during the combo so the claimer doesnt K/D you, and you should wipe both veteran guards with the above. Then you simply kite the claimer while killing the scouts, and finally finish her off. As long as she doesnt have the indignant buff (and why are you trying to solo a camp with one on anyway?) you shouldnt have any trouble with a camp, even as staff.

" I believe we have a base healing power and can then add +Heal gear, and you’re talking about the base without +Heal gear/upgrades, right?"

Yes. I dont run +heal gear for the first reason you stated, which is that healing power scales pretty badly. It’s really most useful in situations where you will heal far more than 1-5 players, such as in events (for which you wont receive credit for healing) or WvWvW (also for which you wont receive credit, but is offset because you get credit for standing in the circle, so whatever)

No heal is “useless” but they can often be “Use impaired” Heals will rarely save a teammate from death in my experience. You need 2+ heals to combat a single monster hit, and chances are if you’re able to maneuver and get those heals off on your teammate (who is most likely running away) chances are they would have lived anyway.

Siege Golem

in WvW

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

Golems are incredibly effective in 2 situations

1. surprise attacks
2. critical mass

In situation 1 you have 10 people who can take out a tower long before any defenders get there unless they’re already nearby. A single golem works faster than the rams will, especially if you time warp it (as ram auto attack cooldown prohibits it from being as effective as spin to win or punch spam)
Something similar can occur even with large groups. Taking a tower gave our zerg an extra 150 supply, which I got them to use on a golem. We breached 2 fortified gates before the enemy team could react and reach their keep which they assumed we wouldnt go for (because who just slams their face into a keep when there are 2 nearby enemy supply camps)

Golem + element of surprise > most other conventional siege

The other situation is critical mass. Which involves having enough golems to take down a gate even if defenders are there.
Golems, being mobile, can be mesmer portaled. This means with enough golems, and a brave enough mesmer, you can move 1000’s of supply worth of siege onto a gate from a safe distance. No need to throw a ram down on a gate and hope it isnt blown up before you can use it. No need to throw down cata’s and hope there isnt a suicidal enemy who is ready to destroy them. You portal, and you down the gate in seconds through the enemy teams AOE.

This tactic doesnt work with other siege weapons, just golems. 10 golems will crush a fortified gate in a matter of seconds. Unless the enemy team is prepared, and has their defensive siege ready as soon as you portal, then the gate is doomed.

Both of these strategies are incredibly powerful if done correctly. Golems are not for single players or small groups to use without co-ordination. You dont slap down a golem and automatically get the strength of 10 rams. You use it intelligently though, and you can win in scenario’s that 100 rams and 100 catapults wouldnt see you through.

3. Heals players close to target rather than yourself (unless you are also on the target)

because staff is way too dumb ? stupid casting time, stupid timers, awful dps which can be dodged more easily and you won’t be able to catch someone who is trying to flee with a staff not to mention you won’t be able to dodge as well

In air you can have virtually permanent swiftness, as for casting time what about churning earth, worst casting time of any ability in the game. Meteor shower and eruption have fairly high casting times but you can place them where you want so the trick is to get in space and cast them.

Churning however has 3 main benefits over meteor shower. You are A. next to your target, B. you have probably just knocked them down and C. it cripples them during the channel. You’d be surprised how often earthquake+churning hits people compared to lava fonts and meteor showers. Especially seeing as you can use lightning flash during it. Knockdown into churning, teleport as they move, it’s almost undodgeable unless they know it’s coming for them (the teleport that is)

What's wrong with Condition damage?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

conditons are pretty strong but they have two main flaws

burning – stacks with duration rather than intensity. if you have 2 people doing burning, 1 person is getting the short end of the stick most of the time
Bleed – stacks to 25, which is good, but can be quickly reached if you run with necromancers. less likely to screw you over, but still a chance

Also certain bosses (indeed, I believe anything stronger than a champion) has some kind of natural resistance (ala guild wars 1) that causes conditions to end on them sooner. Some bosses will literally never even get weakness from my ele auto-attacks because it ends too quickly on them. Similar issues happen with burns and bleeds.

All content should be easy enough to need any special team-combo.

Some people don’t grasp that. They’re still stuck in WoW or the holy trinity of tank, deeps, and Healz. as long as you know your combos, and class any combo can run dungeons.

more like some people realize that and they also realize that at the end of a day a team with a guardian usually does better than one without.

My guild has been running arah for a while now. back when most of us were getting our dungeon master titles my guild leader would die quite often at lupicus. He was certainly a skilled player, but he would simply go down, and then die before anyone could even get to him. He changes to guardian and now he never goes down until phase 3 (and only then because he’s literally holding aggro 24/7 and we have ample time to get him back up safely) Our failure rate on lupicus dropped from about 50% to 0% the moment we added a guardian to our teamcomp. Simply because of how lupicus aggro works, and how much easier a guardian can tank than basically every other class.

If you watch speedruns of dungeons youll note about 90% of teamcomps are based around guardian/warrior/thief setups with an optional 1 mesmer or 1 elementalist. Mesmer for timewarp, ele for versatility with reflects, combo fields, heals, and status conditions such as cripple/freeze/swiftness all on 1 weapon.

in short
Guardians
needed? No.

as for dungeon chests we usually see about 1-2 cores per dungeon run. So, 3 chests 5 members is 15. So something like 1/10th chance to get one per chest. 10% sounds about right.

At that point it depends on the dungeon really. Something like HoTW or CoF where you breeze through it in 20 minutes nets you 3x 10% chances at a core. Whereas something like say TA or CoE might be far longer dungeoning and thus chest opening (you’ll note that these cores are also the more expensive ones ;p )

Stop Selling Commander Title

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

My take on commanders is thus:

Make it so that the guild leader of the guild that owns a tower or keep for more than 3 hours gets a commander tag.

This way you know
1. the tag was obtained through at the very least, someone in the guild actually doing WvWvW
2. guilds looking to get tags are given an incentive to actively take objectives
3. guilds looking to get tags are given an incentive to actively defend their own captured objectives
4. anyone with a commander tag is at the very least a guild leader, and thus has some experience leading people

It’s not a perfect solution, as a small group of players could capture and hold a tower, giving their guild leader a tag when he may be very bad at WvWvW. But I feel like that’s worth the tradeoff of eliminating commanders who simply have money.

The POI’s are probably in towns.

The other things are most likely a combination of some of the following

Maguuma:
golemagical institute (metrica)
Calx’s hideout (metrica)
Aurora’s remains (brisban)
Dreamdark enclave (caledon)

Shiverpeaks:
tail of the serpent (timberline)
lair of the coil (timberline)
sector zuhl (timberline)
griffinrook run (lornars)
Shamans rookery (wayfarer foothills)
ulukks hunger (dredgehaunt)

Those are some of the most commonly missed area’s in the zones you are missing things in.

these so called “friends” aren’t playing in the same server as you?…

doesn’t make any sense.

Back when the game was popular at the very start there were overflows on basically every map. This meant I got to meet some pretty cool people from a variety of servers. Heck, same thing happened this halloween event in the labyrinth. These people wound up on my friends list, and it goes from there.

Also if you ever look for a guild that does one specific thing you may find one that fits all your needs, but happens to be on another server, which means if you want to play with them you either need to change servers and ditch any friends you have on your current one, or vice versa.

ele is good in WvWvW

AoE > siege
AoE > people
Range > not range in most fight
Heals + Teammates > most other things
Swiftness > walking pace
Oh and with a bit of luck you can pull people off walls.

yeah so maybe you cant kill people 1 on 1. Run with a group and watch how much better your WvWvW experience is.

the thorns are a cause of the melandru statues. In the cursed shore is a temple to melandru. If that waypoint is contested then the thorns will be popping out and You will need to retake the temple.

@ mbelcikuwh
kitten these quote bugs!)

The deadeye shot can be dodged by rolling as the deadeye buff is about to end on you. Also they do “extreme ranged damage” which is a incredibly stupid tooltip description. It should read “Does more damage the further away you are” because that’s what it actually means. Standing next to them makes them do less damage with the deadeye shot.

Usually in a pack of deadeyes we just burst them down. If they have bezerkers pals I take that aggro because static field, freezing, swiftness, and generally speaking range is easy counter to melee, while my team kills the deadeyes by humping their legs until they go down. If they technician buddies its a toss up, pretty much all of us run stability in one form or another anyway, so we just use that to stunbreak. and obviously try to stand by the deadeyes to kill them first.

(Oh and you can totally roll out of the sentinel warbanner thing, I dont see people doing that ever, but its a thing)

also
“my groups always clear the dungeons where there’s a champion in it just for the sake of silvers :p”

That only applies to AC. I dont believe champion monsters in other dungeons drop the 5 silver. At least i’ve never noticed them doing it. (though I havent touched CM or TA in a long time because I abhor those dungeons)

@ svarty

Cheesing refers to a tactic that is a bit underhanded. Im not sure about the origin, but I knew/know it from starcraft, in which it referred to a specific strategy that was designed to beat anyone who had never seen it before, but was easily countered by anyone who knew it was coming.

In other games it usually means a tactic/strategy that’s much easier than the normal way to do things, but might be considered an exploit. For example in TA there was a tree you could hide behind and range down the first boss. This would be a cheesy strategy.

While not the most satisfactory of answers. You could attempt to make friends with players on other servers and then have them port you into the dungeon. I know for a week that CoF was bugged on fort aspenwood I would have my friends from other servers warp me into the dungeon, as theirs was open.

(also being able to draw on players from multiple servers makes it tons easier to find groups ;0 )

What makes it even more funny when you have a weapon set which puts your toughness above everyone else. Now that’s what I call aggro control.

Yeah, I mean, I dont really like utilizing a tank with high toughness. I mean yeah, valid strategy, works pretty much everytime. But it feels kind of weird seeing as the holy trinity is meant to be gone. But hey, here’s a boss with a clear aggro pattern, and here’s a way to tank him, and suddenly the encounter becomes way way way easier. Lack of holy trinity or not, a dedicated tank makes this fight way better, and lupicus can definitely be “tanked” by drawing his aggro to 1 specific player.
