the ones in AC have been knocking me down more than usual. But I dont think other dungeons were changed.

The AC one is very noticeable though. During hodgins burrow events I would usually never need stability. At best i’d get knocked down once and just stunbreak my way out. Now I need to be running as much stability as possible, as it’s not unusual to be knocked down 4+ times.
I think they changed the timing or animation of the graveling leap

Is Abaddon stronger than Elder Dragons?

in Lore

Zenyatoo.4059

A reminder that the brand exists.
Kralk could have glassed the entire continent in a day if he wanted to. Abbadon was taking his kitten sweet time corrupting elona.

The dragons arent simply here to destroy everything and leave. They eat magical items remember? They need races to continue to exist in order to propagate the creation of these items. Abaddon was all about corrupting elona, that’s why he seems powerful. The dragons are basically holding back because killing us all isnt the best choice. If they wanted us truly gone like Abaddon did, tyria would be a blasted crater right about now.

Also abaddon was the god of magic. It makes sense that he’d be the strongest, as the other gods literally took his power afterwards (air, fire, water, earth, ETC they stole that kitten from him)

It requires people to do things that have 0 rewards and are intrinsically boring. Sentrying is only fun if your objective actually gets attacked. Sit in a keep for 2 hours while no one attacks it and see how much you like the change. All the people saying how white swords serve the same function have no idea what they’re talking about. It takes 3 thieves to contest every objective on the map. Good luck making heads or tails of that.

Tell me how fun and rewarding is escorting dolyaks…

I escort yaks a lot.
like a lot a lot.

While escorting, I also act as a sentry for the keep or tower that’s being upgraded.
I see a LOT of action. Some days literally every yak is being attacked by 5+ people from SoR. Heck one day there was a literal Choo zerg dedicated to flipping camps and ganking our yaks.

People who think escorting yaks is boring have never faced a server that knows to gank them.

Clearly you should just come to the quarry then!

But in all seriousness, which server are you? If you’re SoS, chances are you’ll be in a different bracket, which will most likely change your color from red to green (or blue) and be a more fair matchup. This will let you nab another 1/3rd of the map or so without ever needing to leave your territory.

If you’re SoR, then you’ll probably be staying as blue, or maybe moving to red if BG steps it up. Either way SoR are not slouches when it comes to taking land. They do hold the occasional 390 point tick or so. Which is 4/7ths of the maps, or 4/7ths of the map completion.

Just keep checking the wvwvw scores every now and then or (GASP) help out and see if you cant get a solid push going.

“clearly we’re talking about two entirely different kinds of Daily designs.”

Right, but yours doesnt exist.

The idea behind the new dailies was to give players reasons to go to zones, and do things they normally wouldnt do. Which is working perfectly.

No daily in any MMO i’ve ever played (and believe you me I have played a lot) has ever been designed around simply being completed during “normal” play.
The ones in guild wars one for instance rewarded you for going to a mission, dungeon, zone, boss, different boss, ETC. A specific one. It got people to places, out in the world, it got people their titles done too (Cant do something with henchmen, wait till it was the daily, easy)
In WoW, dailies were something you specifically went out, got, and then completed.
Same for most other MMO’s. You went to the board, took the quest, then went and did it, and went back to doing whatever.

The daily is not just meant to hand you the reward. You are meant to actually work at it. It’s also still very very very easy, and even someone who only has 15 minutes a day can do 5+ of the new ones.

Game the system.

Aquatic slayer – Hit that up in cursed shore. Just swam along to a temple of melandru event killing things
Group event – Did the abomination at caer shadowfain, and the Melandru temple
Gatherer – mithril and ori is plentiful in cursed shore
mystic forger – bought 15 earrings with karma from caer shadowfain, chucked them into the forge. Got 2 rares worth 1.5g each, 2 greens worth 30silver each and 1 green worth 5silver from it

Now you can do any of the last ones you want. You could wvwvw, keg brawl, just do whatever it is you normally do and heal people/kill different monsters, go play an alt.

Yes the dailies have become more direct and less general. But im struggling to understand what it was you were doing in game that you cannot complete a large portion of them with absolute ease. You werent farming cursed shore, you werent traveling from dragon event to dragon event, you werent wvwvw’ing, you said you dont do fractals, even just normal map completion would garner a large amount of them, maybe you could be pvp’ing all day, but then you dont deserve the pve daily.
The question is really, if you’re never doing any of the 9 tasks in an average day, maybe your average day is really really inactive.

also Mystic forger is done faster than literally every other daily besides talking to the laurel vendor and crafter. It doesnt waste money if you use karma items (heck I made 3g) and it’s easy. But everyone complains about it because they’re vehemently opposed to … something. I dont really know. Is talking to an NPC really that bad?
Suck it up, talk to an NPC that you dont like for 30 seconds, and bam 1/5th of the daily done. If you think that’s taking up too much of your time I cannot help you.

I had a fun fight with a thief today.
The only reason he died was because he over estimated his chances. Had to keep my hp low so that he thought he could win.

the second a thief thinks they’re going to lose the fight, they’re stealthed and 1500 range away in the least expected direction. That’s my only problem with stealth. Even an elementalist has to turn around, detarget you, and face the direction he’s about to move in. With a thief you have no idea if that last stealth was him priming for a backstab, or him booking it as far away as possible.

She’s a queen during wartime. The people like to think their royalty is slumming it with the rest of them.

You’re a lowly peasant, centaurs just burned your farm to ash, and now you’re speaking to the queen about it. Which would you rather see, a queen with perfectly manicured hands, golden slippers, and an extravagant gown? Or a queen with callused hands, dirty feet, no shoes at all? Which one appeals to the hardworking man more?

Given this is probably what he sees everyday, whenever he looks at his wife (don’t forget the bad teeth), I’d say he’d go for the silk over the burlap. Of course, every girl in Kryta seems to be a supermodel so it’s hard to say.

ah but there’s always pretty girls. Men want to see a ruler going through the same hardships as the people.

First you start playing at headstart.
Then you find a way to make money very quickly. Maybe you’re hitting every ori/mithril on every map, constant grinding in Orr, whatever.
But you get 20g. in the first week of playing. This is doable. Hard, possibly boring and tedious, but doable. If I challenged a player to get 20g in a week and they played 20hour a day they’d be back to me in 3 days already finished.

You buy two dusks. You sell them later for 200g each.
Using that 400g you buy more lower end precursors like the legend or spark and flip those when they double in price 2 weeks later.
now sitting comfortably at 800g you wait until the karka event. You buy 8 precursors (almost all of them were bottoming out at 100g) and wait a month. They’re back at 600g a pop. Now you’ve got 4800 gold.

Or maybe you hold onto 5 precursors and just sell the other 3, so now youve got all the precursors you need, and 1800g, which is honestly enough to buy a good chunk of the mats needed. Or you can reinvest that 1800g again. Seeing as precursor prices are still constantly rising.

Playing the market? Vaguely. It’s more like making solid investments.

A friend of mine told me in the first week of playing that I should put my gold into minipets because they’d go up. the exotic mini’s were something like 5g back then. Now they’re over 100g. If you want to call that playing the market you can. But it’s really just solid investing.

The first adopters of anything stand to make the most money.
People who recognize items that will become desirable, and put enough effort into obtaining them early on, make the most money.
It’s not RNG. It’s not some big conspiracy to keep you down. It’s people getting a decent chunk of gold early into the games life, and then investing it.

If you think that’s unfair, well there’s nothing that I can do to change your mind. But it’s really not. They supported the game, they got to play in the headstart, they put in the effort to get that cash early on, and now they get to reap the benefits.

Theory : Loot is Pre-Determined.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Zenyatoo.4059

actually in guild wars 1, it was!

People did some crazy experiments with zoning into zones at the exact same time. They found that people who entered the same zone at the same time got the exact same (or very similar – same stats, modifiers and weapon type but sometimes different requirements) loot. Same amount of blues and yellows, same amount of crafting mats and so on.

Basically the monsters were dropping the same loot if you entered the instance at the exact same time as another person. Now the timing had to be literally exact. Being off by even a few milliseconds meant vastly different loot, but it definitely was interesting.

I’d be curious to see if the same loot system is in place here, but i’d be surprised if it was. For starters in gw1 everywhere was instanced, so I doubt openworld drops work the same, and as for dungeons, I believe it would only be substantial proof if you were in different dungeon instances.

But it is actually plausible. Highly unlikely, but plausible.

wvw effective soloing

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

You’ve got a few choices.

Most helpful: Escorting yaks. Towers and keeps need supply. Escorting a yak means giving it constant swiftness if you can (make sure to find the best ways to do this for your class) as well as defending it from threats. You can also serve as a scout, as you’ll be able to call out if enemies are attacking the supply camp, tower, or keep that you’re moving to. This is probably the most important role you can do solo. It is however pretty boring, and if you’re constantly getting ganked by 5+ people and no one comes to help you, then you will want to murder your teammates.

Ganking enemy yaks is the second most important thing a soloist can do. Much like how your towers/keeps need supply, so do the enemies, and if you can find and take out yaks, then you’re denying them these resources. You can force enemy towers/keeps to be unupgraded, and deny them critical resources during your teams attacks.

After that is taking supply camps. I do want to make a differentiation here. Taking camps is probably more effective and important than listed, but only if you do it as a small group. Solo’ing camps takes time, and is very risky, there’s an efficiency and safety you get with a group that you wont get alone. Dying trying to solo a camp means youve wasted your time, and your life which could have been better spent in a zerg. However you can still solo the camps, and a quick ninja cap can really hurt the enemies supply lines, as well as secure potential points for your team.

NPC camps can also be flipped. The quaggans are especially good for this. Either destroying the power node, or gathering pearls, can easily be done solo. These quaggans will then run to nearby supply camps (which is a perfect opportunity to take it if it’s not yours) Same for the dredge, hylek, and ogres, but these are harder to solo cap.

Other than that there’s not a whole lot. The thing is, running around solo may be fun, but it’s not as safe, deadly, or efficient as with a small group.

21k vitality! Makes my 10k vitality thief feel inadequate!

super duper funfact time
1 Vitality = 10hp regardless of which class you are. if 10K is the base hp for thief, he has around 2016points in vitality!

(This also means that classes like elementalist, guardian and thief get a better % wise yield from vitality. As the same amount of vitality makes them technically more tanky compared to their base hp than warrior/necro. But obviously still not practically as tanky)

More specifically.

grawl spawn them, they then run at their targets, at which point a wurm pops out of the ground and consumes them. This wurm then becomes allied to the grawl and fights with it.

You can see this happen quite often if you chose grawl during your personal story. When they come to help you in orr, you’ll see them spawning the wurms via rabbits.

times you got in CoF p1 w/o 4 warriors?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zenyatoo.4059

Zenyatoo.4059

2 mesmers 2 warriors 1 thief.

2 mesmers is far more optimal assuming you still keep a solid time schedule.

behind the logic:
For the slave driver, you generally want to kill him within a single time warp. This is completely doable with the above composition. It’s doable with 4 warriors too, but the time difference is so minimal here that it may as well not exist. Also if your group sucks, a second time warp more than makes up the DPS on this boss.
For the final boss where you’ll take over 10 seconds, the multiple time warp give you more DPS over that 20 second period. With a good enough boss fight, you can usually down him within this time period.

The thief is also better at the gate control than any warrior ive ever seen. My typical gate control went like this
1. move into the first braizer
2. stand with back to wall
3. use hundred blades
4. when hundred blades is done killing my monsters, the thief has finished
That’s insane speed. Even with frenzy I dont think a warrior can match that burst on the gate control. Oh and ofc the thief can stealth you as you run past the hellstrom, so no one burns half to death.

we never timed it exactly, but we were consistently under 6 minutes. We eventually stopped when we had an 8 minute run because we realized we were getting too fatigued.

so….the corrupted are the only core who can’t be dropped inside a dungeon? and now can’t be dropped too from ice dragon’s trash? And this is “normal” for the developers? i don’t think is a good idea to beat botting thing…

the corrupted cores/lodestones drop from the summoned monsters in HoTW.
They also drop from the icebrood in frostgorge (of which there are a ton)
And ice elementals in Orr (which there used to be metric buttloads during grenth)
Every icebrood summoned by Jormag (of which there are a lot)
I do not know if the ice elementals in the snowblind fractal drop them, but I have received one from the chest IIRC.

My guildie farms frostgorge maybe 2 hours a day, and she walked away with 3 lodestones last night.

It may be low (or nonexistent) from chests, but it’s balanced by having the most things that drop it.

Also IIRC crystal lodestones/cores do not come from a dungeon. The only place to get them would be the maw fractal chest and bags of loot (and before that chest existed, it was only loot bags) so corrupted arent the only non-dungeon lodestone.

What was up with the “Sanctum of Rall Invader” sending me a “join” request in WvW yesterday ? Attempting to join my party ?

They were most likely attempting to kitten talk you.
SoR has a problem with some of their players joining your party in order to trash talk you. They’ve got a few bad apples in the bunch, best to accept the invite, and if they are simply doing it to trash talk you, report them for verbal abuse, take down the name/guild, and ask an SoR person about it. Despite the mean things we say about them, im sure most SoR players would want to see that person reined in a little.

Ya next time I will add them to document the kitten talking. That’s too bad if so. I mean WvW is like pre school compared to more hard core pvp games Ive played so I dont get where anyone would want to chest thump over a kill in WvW. I run around solo or in small groups a lot. No one is immune from being defeated in WvW.

I’ve accepted party invites from opponents before. Most of them were nice people. It’s not fair to assume everything is random trash talk.

I’ve had at least 3 people from SoR party me to trash talk me. 0 Have ever done it for any other reason, and indeed in this thread alone you can see another poster who had someone from SoR join to trash talk him. (it’s in one of his screenshots)

Obviously there are other reasons to party people from other servers, and it is possible, that the player simply wanted to duel. However, its best to prepare for the worst case scenario, and thus I wanted to tell him what he should do if he encounters it again, and it is someone trash talking. Better to know what to do and not need to do it, than not know what to do eh?

As for the JQBL, as someone who was there, SoR just completely outnumbered us. When you can hit bay and garri at the same time (one of which was apparently a golem rush from what people were yelling in team chat) and outnumber the forces at both sides, you really should be able to take it all.
Fun last stand in bay though. We rushed a superior arrow cart, and our leader said he got about 40 kills with it before it was destroyed. Oh and we held long enough to rez off the waypoint, that was pretty great too. I was getting ready to warbanner the keep lord, but then about 7 SoR came in from behind me and that was that

The difference between NA primetime and oceanic in JQ is pretty simple

NA primetime: Group of 8 people is the only group that seems to be able to cap things, we ninja’d cragtop, redlake, broke into bay lords room (if we had 2 more people I reckon we’d have finished before the zerg arrived to kill us), broke into garri, ETC.
Oceanic primetime: Like 8 golems get ported directly into inner garrison, what follows is nothing short of wholesale slaughter as we take the keep back.

Tried doing Arah Path 2 over the weekend and this guy still resets very easily. We did have a thief in the party. I guess we should not bring thieves to this guy? This guy is hard enough as it is without him resetting so easily. Do devs play this game?!

What no…don’t do that…if everyone did that I could never again bring my thief to Arah…
But if you’re really worried (I’m not), just tell him to maybe retrait and to not stealth; using Withdraw as the heal skill instead.

One other thing is make sure the thief either doesnt have the trait that puts down the stealth on rez, or not to rez people.

Lupicus has one of the weirdest aggro’s in the game. During phases 2 and 3 he latches onto individual players for some, or all of his skills. In Phase 2, this means the same player will constantly have lupicus teleporting to them. In phase 3, one player gets to be his life drain target, and/or his bubble target. If this player goes down, and is then stealthed by a thief who decides to come rez them, lupicus has lost his main target, if his aggro is not immediately re-applied then he can basically reset right there 2ft away staring down at where you just were.

Because TA sucks.

Flowers -> Slow down the whole thing essentially pointlessly. You will never be hit by them in a normal fight, they exist for no reason besides to be annoying, they dont challenge the player, they simply kitten you off.

Crazy knockdowns -> All the dogs, the wurms, the husks and the knights. The husks are actually fully capable of chain knocking you down, even if you pop a stunbreak during it. It’s hard/impossible to maintain stability for the entire duration of these fights, meaning that engaging a lot of enemies in melee can be more hassle than it’s worth (wurms excluded. Easiest to melee these guys)

Luck based combat -> This might need some explanation, but generally speaking no one likes losing. However, when you lose, generally you can console yourself in that you lost because you were not skilled enough, and thus just need to get better. For the spiders in TA it’s a completely different story. Combat has been taken out of your hands, if you get hit ONCE just once, it’s entirely possible to die right then and there, as they have a chance to petrify you (which has no cure). While you could theoretically avoid petrification by never being hit ever, it’s still a stupid system, that randomly punishes some players with death.

Bosses with strange and dumb mechanics -> Malronna takes a bunch of extra damage, but only if you allow her to poison you. In an organized group this means getting poisoned, dealing hella damage, then quickly removing it. In a PuG group this means lots of people committing suicide. Moreover if you do not rely on this extra damage, the fight takes absolutely ages. You also have the mesmer who goes invisible multiple times throughout the fight (becoming essentially immortal, which is probably the dumbest fight mechanic ever. Artificial length != good)

trash – So much trash. Most of it is skippable, but it can and will kill whole teams running through it. Also most of the trash is stupid (see: luck based combat, and flowers)

It’s one of the very few dungeons where almost everything in it feels badly designed. It can be done easily, it can be done quickly, even in a PuG, but lord almighty does it suck as a dungeon.

additional mysteriousness:

When doing dynamic events, be aware that finishing some may trigger others across the map.

If you are in lornars, you can for instance trigger 2 fights near the reapers gate, after doing a fight near the priory base, and then once all 3 are done, there’s a fourth fight by the delvers ridge. None of these dynamic events indicate that the other ones will now be active, you basically have to know in advance, or look pretty much everywhere.

It’s possible that there’s a dynamic event somewhere in say, cursed shore, that triggers another dynamic event in cursed shore, but very far away.

A friend of mine ran with the moot and frostfang, as far as I could tell while watching him

footsteps: moot
Arm: nothing
Axe itself: glowed slightly

If he hadnt pointed out to me that it was the legendary axe I wouldnt have even known. It’s cool looking, but putting it in the offhand with another legendary equipped diminishes it for sure.

What can I do with Obsidian Shards if...

We should be able to make Obsidian armour with the Shards.
But I am guessing if that happens it’ll cost 250 shards + 250 tears of jesus + 1 soulless orphans(crafted from 999 ectos + gift of god(crafted from 666 giganticus lupus fangs) to craft 1 piece.

well, the fangs will be easy at least. But how in the world am I going to get 999 ecto in this economy!?

That is the hub.

Every fractal is on 1 massive map called the hub. Some are far above the hub in mid air (uncategorized, Jade maw)
Some are on the ground floor (Dredge, Ascalon)
Some are raised up slightly (swamp, snowblind, Volcanic)

basically when you change fractal, you’re changing location on the giant map.

There are usually safeguards that teleport you back up when you fall. But you got passed one of them.

For a while there was a glitch that allowed you to leave the dredge fractal, walk towards the ascalon fractal, and obtain the veteran charr warrior allies for your entire fractal run (which obviously became much easier, as having 7 veteran allies allowed you to steamroll most things)

Because of this, anet basically removed the floor, meaning that now when you fall, you fall into the ocean at the bottom of all maps, rather than solid surface. (The ocean makes it so that you cant hop up close enough to the ascalon fractal and obtain the extra allies anymore)

The Breached Wall is just too much

As someone who finished every jump puzzle without a guide, and polished off the clock tower in 20ish minutes (hell it was fun enough that I went back and did it another 5 times)

Breached wall is honestly one of the harder ones. Mostly because of the monsters waiting to put you into combat rather than anything else. Very few of the mechanically difficult jumping puzzles had monsters nearby. Breached wall has both semi-difficult jumps, and a ton of monsters.

The good thing about this though is that the puzzle gets easier if you bring a friend (or friends) as together you can clear out the monsters faster, and hopefully without the need to move around too much (I cant tell you the amount of times I watched someone dodge roll off the wall at the final segment because they were trying to dodge an attack)

Come on. Saturday during the day, most people have other things to do than sit inside and waste away on the computer. Of course coverage issues are coverage issues, but just less so on the weekend.

Anyways, JQ and SoS putting us in our place so far this week. I am enjoying it.

JQ has traditionally always been worse on the weekend.
We have a lot of people who show up to WvW on the weekend who dont hop in the TS or follow the commanders.

Oh ive done this a bunch. Heck my friends dont consider the day done until they’ve jumped outside the map at least once.

here was our most recent accomplishment – Jumping into the great collapse.

So what was down there? (and wheres the screenshot of whats down there?)

You cant actually get all the way down. It teleports you back out and kills you mid fall. The furthest down we got was basically stuck behind an invisible wall near the wooden beams of the steps.

Not a very fun ending.

One of the ranger skills, the one that summons the tree that revives people? Under water its a whale.

The final boss in this path is very easy. You can solo or duo him no problem. His plague form can only travel in straight lines. Also if he can see/target you, but cannot reach you with his plague form then he stands still doing absolutely nothing.

basically? When he goes plague form stand behind one of the many crates strewn about the hill. He’ll just lock up and sit there until his plague form ends. Then you can proceed to murder him some more.
