It would have been better if they were weekly instead of daily.

This is probably going to be anets 1st sensible step in the right direction. This will fix issues with people who are only able to play on weekends etc… But I’d still rather only see it by a monthly basis or even better by doing real and challenging endgame content. I’t doesnt have to be uber hard dungeons? Why not the jumping puzzle from hell? Or instead of putting out this crappy temp content they put out monthly challenging and fun quest lines that rewards things like laurels?

It’s a generic fantasy korean grinder MMO that just happens to be set in Tyria.

LMAO! Really?

Because I’ve played some Korean grinders…they’re nothing like that at all.

IDK ANET sure had me fooled into thinking it was when i checked the Dragon Bash achievements (Must just be a 1 time deal when they went overboard right?).

>A manifesto is a published verbal declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the issuer, be it an individual, group, political party or government.123 A manifesto usually accepts a previously published opinion or public consensus and/or promotes a new idea with prescriptive notions for carrying out changes the author believes should be made. It often is political or artistic in nature, but may present an individual’s life stance. Manifestos relating to religious belief are generally referred to as creeds.

Regardless of what they decided to call their pre-release video showcasing the game it still counts as a promise in my book or at the very least false advertising. But you know what Warhammer did the SAME EXACT thing. There no difference between this here thread on the gw2 forums and many many many many others I seen on the Warhammer forums were people linked to videos of the Warhammer dev diaries and then said “see look they didn’t do anything they said they were!” I’m sure most post WoW MMO’s did the same same. Still its really shady to get people on the hype train with false advertising / saying you are going to do something then do a 180 tailspin on it.

so idk idc anymore lol

This is just sad. Really, really, really, sad. You have effectively spent well over $3000 for weapon skins. You should have just posted the video. Now that you have admitted to basically buying your legendaries, this is not going to be a thread of envy, but of pity.

ya but if anet has done anything right it is the cash shop, Imagine any other f2p game and the advantage he would of had spending that 3 grand there. Here he only 4 weapons with the same stats of exiotic weapons one can get in about a week of casual play (all 4).

I’ve never had to grind and I’ve been playing since August (or April 2012 if you count BWE).

It depends how you play the game. To complete the kill 300 holographic dragon minions, for example, some people rush through, farming the holograms and speeding around the map to kill that many. Why? I honestly don’t know why they want to do things so fast. I’ll be happy even if I never complete that achievement, which I’m not even halfway to completing.

People complaining about grind tend to be (but not always) people who are grinding through the game. I’ve never had to grind in the game and nobody else does either, but some choose to go through content quickly for the fastest rewards and end up finding that the game does not reward that play style.

The game has always had “Kill X creatures” for achievement points, since day 1. This is no different. I don’t need to do it to get the dragon wings, which I don’t really want too much anyways.

If you choose to grind your way through content, that’s your choice.

NOOOOOO I was too late

Hi, community.

I created a website about 3 days ago to help my self keep track of the WvW that was going on but then I saw an opportunity to share it with the rest of the world. So I created the dynamic event section also for people who wants to keep track on some even.

The website that I have created is non-like other. It updates real-time without the need of you refreshing the page or setting a timer on the page. You get every information instantly.

You can find it at http://gw2event.exitosus.com

I’m open to suggestion, I will try to implement everything the community wants.

Thanks for your time reading this and have fun with the tool I have created.

Awesome work GW2LFG made my life 10000000000x easier for finding groups outside of guild events. This should make finding events that much easier, even more sore since most guilds don’t make it an occasion to do them. Just imagine the kind of user created stuff we could have if Anet would open their game to modding.

I haven’t looked at the site too much but if there isn’t already you should have a post system similar to GW2LFG for group events. For instance I find it almost impossible to find people doing the southsun events. I could just post “LF people to do Southsun events on Sea of Sorrows Starting with….” Im sure people wanting to zerg for money would appreciate it too.

Sure, I will make it right after I’m finish with the core of the website(meta events and chest!)

Ya that was the only problem I can really think of, If a group event is active you don’t know if there is actually a group there doing it, or if someone is just messing around. A “LF Group Event” post system would help alot of people out.

Thief utilities awful for PvE

Conditions bypass toughness. Stack dem bleedz!

True. But your main sources of bleeds are coupled with either dodging (Death Blossom), cripple (Dagger Storm) or both (Uncatchable, caltrops). Not only that, rabid/carrion gets you vitality and toughness which just adds to survivability.

Its better than turning everything into butter with zerk imo.

You shouldn’t need any vitality or toughness in PvE after a certain point of knowing boss fights. And if more than 2 people in your party have a %chance2bleedOnCrit thing your screwed. Condition specs are fine I guess in premade for PvE if everyone even cares enough to select roles (not likely due to EZ content) and even then a necromancer could do 10x more condition damage and actually have decent support spells to boot.

cut down on the invulnerability

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zepidel.5349

Zepidel.5349

no I’m saying that this kind of invulnerability is bad for the game. maybe punish people who dodge at the wrong time with a vulnerable recovery period. and skills with invuln are way too spammable and I’m not even sure whether they should exist tbh.

Pretty much, A skilled player in full zerker gear is 10x better than one in full bunker. Like you said dodging and skills that give dodge/invuln potentially in the right hands can mitigate way more damage than just having passive toughness and vitality could ever. Which means the gear progression in the game always trends towards zerker gear as a player becomes better at the game.

For instance in fractals I started out with about 18k hp on my thief through traits and gear, and i still got my kitten kicked. However after about 30 runs I was down near 11k. Why? Because I knew when to dodge and how to position myself to not take damage. The change in gear meant I could do more damage and contribute more overall. I also thought it to be more fun/intense because I always had to be on my toes. However some players don’t give a crap and just run full bunker builds and do maybe contribute 1/3 of what I do because they can get away with it due to no damage meters etc…

Same deal in PvP learning every classes attack animation / getting inside their head you can learn to always dodge at the right time to avoid the hardest hitting abilities wile being full zerker yourself.

The manifesto didn’t mention vertical progression at all. It talked about grind in a completely different way. It talked about “this boring grind to get to the fun stuff”, such as leveling up before you can raid. They wanted to give people fun stuff to do RIGHT AWAY in the game, like the Shadow Behemoth encounter.

Thats rather ironic given that SB is on a rather lengthy timetable. I didn’t actually get to do the event until long long after I finished queensdale. In those early days you actually had to be lucky to be at that part of the map when he came up.

The line after was “We don’t want people to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one likes it, no one finds it fun, we want to change the way people view combat”.

The first instance of the word grind defined what Colin was talking about. Nowhere in that paragraph did people talk about grinding for gear or anything else.

You’ve been comprehensively dismantled on this issue in that other thread so much so I’m surprised you would want to bring it up again.

As long as people continue to bring up the manifesto and try to throw gear grind into the equation, I’ll post what I see as the truth (and it’s pretty obviously the truth if you actually know how to read).

I don’t actually care if people are tired of it, because I’m tired of people bringing up the manifesto. It doesn’t further any conversation, it’s demonstrably false criticism anyway, and it’s pointless.

Hopefully people will stop bringing it up, because it clouds the issues rather than clarifies them.

Ya lets just close our eyes and ears and forget about all those stupid promises that made us buy the game, lets also forget about that terrible game that came out in 2005!

Zepidel.5349

From a pure damage perspective, which is lets face it all you need for GW2 PvE (Everyone wanting zerker war+mes) our utilities are pretty garbage.

We have venoms which 3 out of 4 are probably the worst utilities in the game period PvE or PvP. One of them does around 2500-6000(?) dmg over 7-12 seconds depending on spec, and that top end dmg is from a condition spec which is no-no in PvE, and that happening every 45 seconds. Then we got traps, which could be decent against some harder trash, but since they are single target for whatever kittened reason are all grabage. Caltrops are in the same boat as venoms but worse since theres a 1 second cast time, 1 second in which you can get 4 daggers attacks off which will in a power build probably do more damage than caltrops will over their entire duration with an extra ultilty slot to boot. I dont even feel like mentioning the rest which are worthless in PvE.

Leaving us with our only “good” utilities. Signet of power is an across the board 8% damage increase, and an extra 15% dmg increase for those last few heartseekers on a boss. Smoke screen… Great utility for alot of trash and boss fight with added combo field and stealth whenever you want. Signet of agility… Extra passive precision for more dmg, and healing from on crit lifesteal which even tho nerfed is necessary still to not get wrekt as a full zerker thief. And ofcourse the condition removal + instant endurance bar fill for when kitten hits the fan.

I cant honestly think of another utility we have that is even close to as good as those 3 for PvE dungeons. Someone want to school me on our utilities or is this really how abysmal our options in PvE are?

"Zerg Run Vs. Full Clear" can we have both

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zepidel.5349

Zepidel.5349

We have basically two types of dungeon runs: Zerg Run and Full Clear. The Full clear is the least liked becasue of the “rick vs. reward vs. time” that everyone has talk so much about; there is just no reason to do them. The following is an idea to try and improve on dungeons to make them more like the rest of GW2 play how you wont style, and for both types to receive rewards for the time put into it.
The main thing is that they need to give out a reward for those that choose to clear the dungeon, killing everything and doing any events. the types of reward should be of course dungeon tokens, karma vials, gold…just like you get from finishing the paths now. Make the full clear of a dungeon an extra event so you have a way to track your progress of things you have to kill and/or do. Also as an extra event you have to start and so it would not linked to the normal path runs that we have now. This way both styles of play can exist together. The amount of rewards given can easily be change on a per dungeon basis, and should be as to reflect the amount of reasonable time you have to put into fully clear that dungeon. as we all know not all dungeons or not the same.
Another thing would be how the event is kicked off. Before the event would start someone would have to talk to a non-player character somewhere at the start of the dungeon, one with a sun like symbol above their head (like the ones that usually start events.) The event when then be voted on by the party before it would start, this way it would prevent a lot of problems before they start.

In closing please leave a comment if you like this idea, so we can show Anet that we really care about this game and wont to improve on it.

- this gets implemented
-decide to go to gw2lfg
-see this plastered everywhere

$$$$$$$$$$$$CoF P1 —-—-FULL CLEAR——- WARRIORS AND MES ONLY FULL ZERKER NO N00BZ PING ALL ZERKER GEAR$$$$$$$$

nothing changes except for now all dungeons runs take a little longer and reward a little more. And if they do change CoF rewards then instead of CoF p1 it will be TA p1 or w/e.

i find myself playing like the OP lately.
Log in, check dailies, check dragon spawns, finish the dailies and log off.

I don’t hate the game (more than 1.5k hours,), i just can’t be bothered to do anything else. Most of that time i’m also altabbed, looking stuff on youtube or posting here, while waiting for an event to start.

The enthusiasms is gone, yet i don’t want to quit and “fall behind” . So i sit tight, wait for new content/expansion and stockpile laurels (140 now) :\

knowing anets track record in gw2 if any new ascended type gear gets released they will introduce a whole new currency and your laurels will be null.

The real problem here is that the latest mmorpg tends to be more and more single players online than actual mmo. Honestly a game that basicly lets you finish it all in solo it’s not an mmo.
And people that wants to achieve that without playing with others should go and play single players not MMO.

It’s absurd that some people doesn’t understand that mmo content should never finish, simply because most of the time the content should be created by the players themselves, by their interactions and “frictions”.
Though again, the latest mmo remove the ability to do so (we are all in this kind of paradise where only the mobs are evil), and you have to rely only on the content given. Then it’s obvious that contents finishes.

I didn’t played GW1 so i don’t know how stuff “should” evolve in GW2, but i’m sure GW1 doesn’t follow my points.
I mean, a game that is called “Guild, Wars”, where are these guild wars? where’s this competition that can create content?
Until we have the kind of goals everyone tends to (i want the best gear, i’m all colored in white/black/gold whatever. I did all the achievement etc) content will finish fast (or boring and a grind fest).
I respect who likes to play towards that but it’s not definitely for me.

Though i want you to reflect about this: why you have to come to an MMO to have some bunch of pixels and colors.. thing that can be given by any single player. An MMO should be expected to give social interaction between players and well different goals, group goals… but the current rewards (or the missing things to do as a guild) are not enough.

Imho we should have lived in a open world pvp area from the start, with just some safe zones for the people to start (or people that doesn’t want to pvp, but with their pve can contribute to pvp people).
Then it would have been another game and not GW2 probably, i know, but this is (part) of why we are in this status imho.

I agree 100%. But you would be amazed how many anti-social people play MMO’s (yeah). They are too afraid/inept to ask around or look for a group for a specific dungeon. But it seems every game nowadays tries to cater to everyone, and what happens is the game feels very watered down and its just an unpleasant experience for PvP or PvE centric players. So niche games are becoming a thing of the past.

Thief 4 is the most recent shining example of this, as someone who played all the previous games I almost cried watching the new gameplay trailers.

I’ve have to pass on playing musical objectives / kill the poor guy trying to get to the zerg. I prefer somewhat balanced PvP (SPvP), and there is 0 incentive to do WvWvW unless i want +5% more crafting xp. That and im too spoiled by having played games that did open world objective based PvP the right way.

General consensus of Pistols...?

in Thief

Posted by: Zepidel.5349

Zepidel.5349

Pistol is the only option for a single target ranged DPS. Shortbows are great dealing AoE damage and hitting multiple targets, but unless you are really good at shortbow, you’re better off with pistol for single target.

Unfortunately, both weapon’s #1 (auto-attack) are bugged — the fire rate is slower than stated and the projectiles travels really slow.

shortbow does way more single target dmg than pistol could ever dream of doing, and lets not even touch aoe lol. The problem with pistol is the auto attack is condition based but the main attack is power, making it mediocre as kitten. Idk how to feel about offhand pistol, the ini cost for that 1/4 second daze seems pretty high, the blind field destroys melee, but not so good without projectile finishers for ranged (unload + blind fields gonna suck ur ini dry quick)

Where’s my achievement/title for 3manning CoE, or going through an arah path with no downs in the party?

I think I’m pretty casual, yet I love that idea. Run, don’t walk, to the Suggestions forum (if you haven’t already). It would be great to see that thought fleshed out a little and offered as a suggestion.

People shouldn’t have to do silly kitten like create difficulty for themselves. This is another bad trend in games these days. For instance in Skyrim I literally had to stop using Blacksmithing/Enchanting/Alchemy because it made the game way to easy. There’s games were a weapon drops early on that makes the game extremely easy (dark souls). We shouldn’t have to force ourselves to not use something within the games mechanics to be challenged.

Lets take CoF P1.

I’ve ran this crappy dungeon at least 100 times and I still don’t know what the 1st boss mechanic is, mostly because it a faceroll like 99% of all bosses in the game. So how about instead of no mechanic we bring that effigy into play that just seems to stand around doing nothing. Effigies burn and I’m assuming the guys down there like fire so how about the closer the effigy is to the boss the more burning damage he does with his whip (closer the effigy is you can see more flames on the whip idk?) so there 1 guy who now needs to kite or keep the effigy away from the boss. Hell we can make it more intersting by saying if the effigy dies before the boss it explodes violently doing massive damage (idk somewhere around 10k instant dmg and some effects?) so not only will you have to keep it away from the boss you can just kill it to nullify the mechanic. The bosses name is “Slave Driver” so were are the slaves? maybe add some pens around it and do something with that (make him move around to them alot so people dont run 4 warrior 1 mes and stand still to kitten him). I mean this kittens no hard I came up with that kitten idea for an at least somewhat better reworked boss fight using kitten that already exists in the dungeon / not messing with the lore in 2 minutes.

This is a part of the endgame. The actual end-game people like the OP refuse to even attempt to do, but instead whine.

The end-game of GW2 IS dynamic events; the Living Story; sPvP; and WvW. In other words. The Dragon Bash event going on right now is the end-game.

If you bothered reading…. anyways dungeon gear is obtained in about 20 or so 10 minute dungeon runs. after that all that is needed is dailies. which take 30 days minimum, but most people dont play every single day so they miss laurels. Then if you have more than 1 character or build its back to doing them…

and then after you BiS every slot there’s 0 to do since…. there is no challenging content which would even require said gear. So the last phase of endgame really is dailies. I guess I’m one of those weirdos who likes to be challenged (like in GW1?).

You’re not forced to do dailies. I wont say this game isnt for you, but if you arent playing for something else (preferably for fun) and just log in to daily and fractal daily, you should probably spend your game time on something else for a week or so. See how you feel about it then.

you ARE forced to do them because its the only outlet for certain BiS gear. If you want to be competitive on all your characters you NEED to do them. They need remove laurels from dailies and have another way to get them. Keep the 10 laurels on monthly I am fine with that since it doesn’t screw people who don’t log everyday.

I don’t believe I have ever played a MMO so casualized, so easy as GW2 in terms of PvE dungeon and raid content. It’s really mind boggling to be honest.

Lets start with Dragon Raids. The 1st thing many of us got hyped about was the GW2 Shatterer fight video released before the game. It certainly looked epic, it looked like many people had to band together to take down some terrible evil. But in reality the fight is merely starts by someone watching a website that tracks the spawn timers for these dragons. When the window opens they tell people and dozens of drones with nothing better to do sit around for up to an hour waiting for the thing to spawn. You would think they were waiting for something fun, but when the dragon finally appears there is no kind of “OK guys listen up we need people over there taking care of that, you guys on res duty, and you guys make sure….” nope none of that stuff. Instead 100 people cram together on a rock next to the dragon turn on auto attack and alt tab to check their facebook status. After 2 minutes they tab back in to get loot, which is terrible anyways. And the cycle continues. I cant imagine how these loot pinatas were ever a threat to the Tiria.

Next we have dungeons. Every single dungeon I cleared the 1st try with a pug group with the exception of Arah P1 and P4. Sadly enough the 1st time I faced lupi with pugs we downed him on the 2nd attempt (im not tooting my own horn here, a pug group means little to no organization and shouldn’t be facerolling dungeons with people who never done them before). There was no difficulty or need for tactics or need for putting time and care into builds. Sure you can go full support engineer or mesmer, but why? When does anyone ever need that support. All you do by going non zerker builds is slow your team down. The meta of dungeons in GW2 is “How fast can we clear this crap and get our tokens” So gee I wonder why CoF P1 is the most ran dungeon. And gee I wonder why warriors and mesmers are the most sought after class. And gee I wonder why people avoid doing trash as much as possible or find ways to exploit past parts of the dungeon. Infact 98% of the failed dungeon runs I had were do to people not being able to…run past trash.

Sadly enough the only difficulty to be found in dungeons is your move from a balanced build to a zerker build after you are able to negate any real damage by dodging (there no need for extra hp/toughness or healing at that point). In all honesty anyone who doesn’t run a zerker build in dungeons is doing so because they suck and need the cushion to not die. If a dps meter ever got introduced the tears would be ENDLESS. The reason why anet doesn’t want a dps meter is because with the meta we have it would prove how unbalanced the game is for it.

What they need to do introduce/rework content that is impossible to beat without someone supporting, without someone playing some niche role or need to use your kitten brain. So yes anet you crushed the trinity and traded it in for the…singularity? how is that a step forward? If you are going to do something bold and innovative like make an mmo without a trinity you need to make the PvE work around that, and honestly I’m not seeing how our dungeons are any different mechanic (or lack of any) from any trinity mmo.

Until you do something about it players who expect to be challenged are just going to level up to 80, faceroll through all the content without trying then quit after a week or two. Sadly enough people like me will come back after a few months since nothing new or exciting is being released on the mmo market.

Real men go full zerker and use D/D and Shorbow. NO exceptions.

Dailies should be easy and fun. They shouldn’t require you to read a guide so you can effeciently grind them each and every day, because they’re the only means of getting BiS gear. It’s a flawed system that forces you to go out of your way to complete it, every day. Again and again.

Dailies are work you have to do to get something in return (in this case laurels). Fun is subjective… what is fun for you might not be fun for me and vice versa. Either you work for it if you want BiS gear or you don’t it is still your choice. You don’t lose anything for not doing it but you don’t gain anything either.

It is like legendaries, getting the mats are far from fun (farming, rolling in the mystic toilet, etc) but people still do it because they want it bad enough. Same with dailies if you want the BiS Amulets then you better be ready to work for it.

What you aren’t understanding is that dailies SHOULD NOT be the outlet for BiS gear. Anyone can do dailies. There is 0 challenge in doing them, there’s no kind of sense of accomplishment. Plain and simple dailies are a CHORE nothing else. When a game becomes nothing more than another chore akin to washing dishes spoiler its not fun anymore.

Legenadaries are another matter, honestly I don’t care they provide no stat bonus over something I can farm in 2 hours. I’m not autistic enough to spend hundreds of hours for a skin. And I’m fine with that, but dailies on the other hand you HAVE to do to be competitive. That’s the problem.

Nothing is shared because the radius of the skill is beyond kitten poor, ever taking that trait is just downright dumb. The only situation I can conceive were it would be viable is if GW2 had PvE content that was hard and required tactics beyond using your heal if you get low hp and rolling your face on the keyboard so you do some damage here and there to bosses. Venoms suck ontop of all that anyways, and since PvE is so easy the only thing that matters is how fast can you run it, overall group dps would benefit more from you going a zerker build to do the most dmg possible. The only reason to not go full zerker in PvE is because you’re bad and cant survive and need the extra cushion.

Fighting Mesmer Question

Zepidel.5349

I know this has been discussed but can you help me a bit more.

I haven’t leveled a mesmer so they confuse the hell out of me.

The mesmer with lots of clones, you see him and start attacking him, he stealths and a clone takes his place (I think this is what is happening)

At this point I think (what kind of build is this by the way?)

1) If you have tagged him as a target (I always call targets) the clone gets the target indicator or it disappears.
2) The mesmer stealths

My questions are – how long can he stealth? Is the same as thief stealth? How many times can he do this (what is the cooldown).

I am getting a little better at picking out the real mesmer when he reappears – at this point there are like 3 toher clones ,but it seems (and I know it’s just me l2p) that anytime I start attacking the real mesmer he disappears and a clone appears.

So… any help would be great as it is now I just C/D the nearest clone and leave, it’s just too much of a pain.

I pay P/D condi, but have the same problem no matter what build i’m playing.

mesmer is the best 1v1 class in the game no doubt, However if you are 100% full zerker you can kill them in 2 seconds before they can do jackkitten.

Cast basilisk poison when you see the mesmer cast kitten sig then precast CnD then steal (cnd goes off as soon as steal hits him) then backstab (mesmers are cloth mug can hit for 5-8k? + cnd + backstab thats upwards of 15k damage in 1 second) after this just pop haste and either heartseeker or if its obvious he invised pulled out your sb and spam pointblank clusterbombs like a madman nothing surives that and invis wont help him there.

If he didn’t die well get out of town till your kittens off cd.

Btw mesmers have a skill to transfer every condition off them and onto a target, I usually run with that skill when on my mesmer to just nullify kittens who run condition builds. They also have an aoe fields that removes all conditions off allies inside it. Theres a VERY good chance a mesmer in PvP will have 1 of these skills most likely the latter.

What Venom related trait / effects are shared by Venomous Aura (SA XII)?

Conidtion Damage
&
Conidtion Duration
of the Thief character are not shared, correct?

How about traits like:
Potent Poison (Increases poison duration by 33%)
Lotus Poison (Weaken targets for 3 seconds whenever you poison them)
Venomous Strength (When applied, venoms grant 2 stacks of might for 20 seconds)
Residual Venom (Applied venoms last one extra strike)
Leeching Venoms (Steal health when triggering a venom. This can only occur once per strike)

Are these effects applied to allies?

And when a thief share Spider Venom with another player (e.g. an Ele) who land an AoE which hit 5 targets, that Ele used up all 5 Spider Venom strikes, correct?
If Leeching Venoms works on the Ele too, will he get the 5 heals in 1 AoE?

Edit for extra question:
If a thief share venom with another player dealing the same condition, say to share Ice Drake Venom to an Ele who use Freezing Gust, will the Chill stack?

Basilisk Venom and other stun don’t stack, correct?

Thanks.

Nothing is shared because the radius of the skill is beyond kitten poor, ever taking that trait is just downright dumb. When I feel this way, I play WvW. It never gets old

WvW is awful, its zergs running from objective to objective for points (for what? +5% more crafting bonus?). Theres small guild 5/10 mans all in vent running around destroying stragglers and maybe 1/50 times find a decent fight with people on their level/organization. The rewards are trash, and I honestly feel 0 pride in knowing my server played musical objectives better than another server, nor do I care since again the rewards are trash.

DAoC did tri faction open world PvP perfectly, all WAR had to do was emulate it, but it failed to do that with the same dev team behind it. And GW2 WvWvW is 100x worse than WAR’s. Comparing GW2 WvWvW to any decent games open world PvP is like comparing put-put golf to 18 holes at pebble beach.

I Agree to some point but no way in hell was WAR better in any way.
In WAR there were just zergs avoiding eachother to raid keeps, circle raiding npcs all day long for armor dropps. It was horrible unbalanced in terms of population. It failed after a couple of months for a reason.

GW2 WvW could be fixed with 1 patch, new (alot) bigger WvW maps and more reason to roam for small groups is the only way to make this work.

When i manage to capture a camp solo while 2 enemies defending it i get alot less reward then the 1 spamming lemming who zerged a fortress. Thats pathethic.

No I agree WAR was bad, it had plenty of potential and you would think Mythic could pull off a decent RvR game after DAoC. Regardless I still had 100x more fun in WAR RvR than in WvWvW.

At least it had an objective and rewards better than moving up a ladder / +15% more karma points for your server.

To answer your question: Maybe, but we the players have to keep being vocal about how displeased most of us are with the end game.

The “most” who happen to be the same few people on the forum complaining, as opposed to the dozens of “full” servers with hundreds of thousands of players who play every day without uttering a word of complaint…

Thats because maybe 5% or less of the playerbase even cares enough to go to the forums or even knows one exists. Just like product review pages on amazon/newegg etc… most people don’t care after they bought a product to give any kind of feedback unless its amazing or its absolutely awful, and its usually the latter who gives the most feedback. And using the amount of people playing a game as a indication of how good it is, how low can you get?

By that logic WoW and LoL are the best games ever made what are we doing wasting our time here? WoW does 1 thing good at that is appealing to as many people as possible, which gives an extremely watered down result… everything is OK, but not that great. Which unfortunately is what GW2 is trying to do (GW1 was a niche PvP game). And again LoL tries to appeal to the most people by being super casual easy to pick up and having specs so low you can play it on a super nintendo, all so more people will play it and they will make more money. All the wile DoTA2/HoN appeal to a niche crowd, and for those players they have a much better game.

If you are logging in for a reward, and not to have fun enjoying a video-game, then its not a surprise that you don’t find the game fun.

What does any reward really provide you with? Something else to enjoy playing the game with. If you have already given up on playing for enjoyment then you are beating your head against a wall.

I’d like to add that there are plenty of things to do and ways to play that don’t limit you to grinding and farming for a reward.

Thats what single player games are for. If you honestly get more enjoyment out of GW2 personal story and single player elements over The Witcher 2 / Fallout NewVegas / Dark/Demon Souls etc… then more power to you I guess. People play MMOs for the online multiplayer experience of creating a character and getting loot rewards / skins / and constantly tweaking their build to be as good as possible for their playstyle, and putting those up against other plays in PvP and PvE content. So theres ALOT of character management / economic / meta stuff going on that you dont see in single player games.

What I’m trying to convey is that because the best gear in the game is only obtainable through dailies, it makes dailies “endgame”.

People in this thread are saying endgame is different for everyone, in essence it is but in MMO terms endgame refers to the most challenging content in the game. Its the accumulation of all you have achieved thus far and putting all that into play against the most challenging and rewarding content. Something that should be seen as a triumph, I don’t know about you but after doing 500 dailies and finally getting that necklace I don’t feel like i just did something amazing. I feel like “Well finally that’s over”. It’s annoying, and just not fun at all.

In Warhammer Online that “triumph” was finally besieging the other realms capital city. It happened maybe 1 or 2 times a week at best. And we were just happy to get there, it was a pipe dream to even think of making it to the other realms king let alone killing him (this was b4 they ruined the game). Back when WoW didn’t have any expansions there was Molten Core an abysmally hard raid that took forever before anyone actaully finished it (Im sure killing Ragnaros gave the same feeling as getting 30 laurels…). In DAoC we had massive keep sieges and dragon raids (dragon raids in gw2 are 100 people standing on a rock auto attacking a pinata till it drops a chest).

I mean I could go on forever, It seems like to cover up the fact GW2 has no endgame they tie ascended gear on the end of a stick called dailies and dangle it in front of us. And as long as people dont say anything and let it happen we will see yet another MMO with tons of potential go down the toilet, I already seen it happen with SWG and WAR, I dont want to see it happen again. Especially considering GW2 even with no endgame is better than anything out right now. And as far whats on the horizon it doesn’t look good either. We have Retconn Online (TESO) and literally WoW 2.0 (Wildstar).

@ Marcus / Vayne / Grounder

What I’m saying is that the endgame IS dailies not that I feel forced to do them. The best gear in the game is obtainable ONLY through dailies.

Theres just no rewarding challenging content in this game.

There is a single JUST ONE boss in the game that requires having a team with a IQ higher than 20 to kill (lupi) other than that you can clear all PvE content with your eyes closed. WvWvW is a mockery of what real RvR should be (DAoC). SPvP can be fun, but there is no reward system or tournament / season brackets etc… theres no incentive to put together a great 5 man of friends and see how far you can go. Most every time I played in or started a SPvP premade it was us wiping the floor with disorganized pugs (not exactly fun esp if you on the other end which I have been plenty).

Using again a game as an example that many of us myself included loathe, WoW has heroic raid content (weres our hardcore dungeon difficulties with rewards pertaining too?) Arena Seasons (we have playing the same map all week for chests containing gear skins that we already have in 100x duplicate by 2 days of playing).

Maybe this game isn’t for me, but its the best MMO out there right now so I’ll stay here and kitten and moan until something better does come out, maybe something will come of it…most likely not.

Log in and chop down 5 trees, salvage some junk i had to go get off low level mobs, maybe do a boring easy dungeon, and talk to the laurel vendor. I then receive my anet issued 1 laurel per day. Then Proceed to find a group for fractals a dungeon I have run 9001 times so I can have a shot at a ring and my anet issued 1 pristine relic per day. Look down at my keyboard and think well guess i have no reason to be online anymore till tomorrow, but hey in 2 months ill have a piece of jewelry that is 5% better than the one that took me 5 minutes to get.

This is the endgame in GW2… doing dailies. Who would of thought a company could take one of the worst things introduced in world of warcraft and build a game around it.

Are they ever going to make this game interesting past leveling up and exploring?

Incoming legion of fanboys to tell you this game isn’t for you and you are playing it wrong.

To answer your question: Maybe, but we the players have to keep being vocal about how displeased most of us are with the end game.

Maybe if this was RIFT or AION etc… This game IS the sequel to Guild Wars, how can a game claim to be sequel yet emulate nothing but lore from the original? I would of been happy with them re creating GW1 on this engine and adding an expansion worth of content on top of that. They would of had to have done 1/4th the work and would have 4x the game they have now.

One build, one class

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zepidel.5349

So how come literally every class has one weapon set/build that completely dominates in pvp?

I thought this game was about diversity in weapons and play styles, not who has the most regen rangers and mesmers on their team.

Well every class does have an optimal build for 1v1 (Usually heavily defensive + conditions) However most PvP is team based, were people need to take roles. A team full of bunkers isn’t going to fair well against a well balanced team (Unless its all ele bunkers kitten them seriously). But you get the point, You should also never base balance off of PUG matches of SPvP or WvWvW, games are balanced around the highest level of play (teams with voice communication and set roles) most pug matches are just Brazilians running around with their head cut off, in which case yes glass cannon thiefs will pick people off easily and with no coordination bunkers will just run a muck due to no focus fire.

I actually don’t think the skills is bugged. It hits up to 4 times in the path of the whirl.

Say the “-” represent length units and the “x” represent the points along the total distance were damage occurs. If the “^” is a player and each “whirl” or “x” only hits if the player is within say 5 “-” than on that diagram up there he would only receive 2 of the 4 hits. The only way the berserker could hit the person all 4 times is if they are running away from the berserker in the same path of the whirlwind. Thats how I always understood it anyways. Hell if im wrong Anet could use this as an explanation and call it a “feature” XD.

Patch - Time Warp Nerf

in Mesmer

Posted by: Zepidel.5349

Zepidel.5349

TW was the strongest Elite in game and is still really viable.

50% more damage for 5 players for 10 second is a lot.

Stop for a second and use your brain pls. Its not 50% more dmg nor was it 100% more damage for 10 seconds before the nerf.

TW or really haste in general only increased casting speed by that amount but not cool downs, which in probably 99% of cases is a classes hardest hitting abilites – your phantasms will do exactly the same amount of damage without quickness as they would with it – the damage just happens 2x as fast – a thief can backstab 2x in 10 seconds without quickness, and with quickness … 2 times.

at 50% cast speed increase is more like a 30% increase in dmg overall. regardless anet just took our group support down a bunch of tiers, sadly enough tw was probably the only thing that got us into dungeon groups (i know alot of kitten run “support” builds in PvE) but our zerker dmg vs a thief or warrior doesn’t compare, and now a guardian is much better support over us. PvP wise were still extremely good.

oh well

With this patch you have made it obvious that you do not want anyone playing anything other than bunkers. You nerfed haste, and inadvertently nerfed the worst class in the game (warrior). Not changing the way stealth works now means thiefs can still abuse it to heal to full whenever they like(you also nerfed basilisk poision to no longer stun, but decided it still deserved to be called “basilisk – meaning zerker thiefs got a pretty big nerf”. D/D eles still not nerfed… Among other things….

Anet, you obviously don’t even spend 5 minutes playing your own game.

Phantasm Build Gear

in Mesmer

Posted by: Zepidel.5349

Zepidel.5349

Which can have a long delay before it applies and you might find yourself with no phantasms by the time it does (also they will fix that 200% HP eventually). Signet of Illusions does let you lean a little more towards Berserk, but I’d still have at least half knights so that they don’t get burned down before the effect can actually trigger—916 is way too little toughness to hope they just don’t get hit or live through it, and that extra HP will also mean a lot less when everything hits them for more because they have so little defense.

1 to 10 seconds right? meaning on avg 5 seconds. If your illusions are dying in 5 seconds chances are you are screwed anyways. and remember GW2 IS ALL ABOUT ACTIVE MITIGATION not passive. doding/invuln/block etc… the extra hp and toughness you will have out of zerker will let you live about 1-2 seconds longer. compared to the extra damage you and your phantasm would have its not worth it.

Yes GW2, and especially the Mesmer class, are strong on active mitigation, but your phantasms can’t actively prevent damage to themselves. It’s not in their behavior. Their survivability is entirely dependent on how much their health and toughness can soak up—and an extra 1-2 seconds of survival isn’t much for you, but it is for them, and it is for buffering between your cooldowns so you can keep them up as consistently as possible.

And phantasms are a damage over time mechanic—the extra damage is nice, but doesn’t really mean as much in a fight about consistent pressure as much as as keeping that pressure—and passive strength for an attack that can’t defend itself goes a long way towards keeping that pressure reliable.

>And phantasms are a damage over time mechanic

what r u smokin m8? phantasms deal huge dmg in a burst every 5 seconds or so and instantly after being cast, damage over time my kitten its burst dmg. If you think your auto attacks etc are doing more dmg than your phantasms then idk. And if you phantasms do die in less than 5 seconds it takes for the sigil to take hold (rarelly unless your ikittenerg) whoever was aoeing just took a huge amount of retal dmg. and with phantasms hitting for upwards of 5-8k i never run into a situation were the other person hasn’t blow all their active mitigation before me.

Lightning: Use it in combo after smoke field to super speed your team as you run past stuff to get to the bosses. If that’s not good enough, whirl is cleansing bolts, projectile is cure conditions.

And again we fight Trash Wars 2, or rather Skip Wars in this case. The swiftness is pretty unimportant at bossfights and only helps you to a minor part, with kiting a boss.
Cleansing bolts and projectiles are again a “drop it and dont care” approach.

Poison: Weakness doesn’t mean you stand and tank the hits, hell protection doesn’t mean that either. It just means that IF you do get hit, it won’t be so bad. Always useful.

Wrong, it means that you play a revolver on your head and hope that the bullet isnt in the chamber. Weakness is unreliable and unreliable things are not desired at bossfights.

Smoke: Drop a smoke field near downed guy and spam blast, boss is now deagroed off you for long enough for you to res the guy in safety. If you use smoke screen, added protection from projectiles while doing same thing. Use hs through it to do dmg with the hs then do a back stab. Smoke field now adds dps.

We were talking about combo finishers and not smokescreen, so please dont mix up topics.
Smokefields offer only stealth if you do a leap or blast finisher through it. It can help to drop agro at a downed person, but why stealthing in the first place if the boss is melee? You will just get yourself revealed. It might help at projectiles though but the time to set it up doesnt justify the outcome again. You will be better of doing something else as thief like refugee, blinding powder, smoke screen as projectile block.
Smoke fields are another source to get into stealth for thieves but dont offer much utility in bossfights.

Water: Healing, nuff said. Did you know using leap finisher here

Nice to see that you basicly ignore everything I wrote and claim me wrong. I already told you that water is one of the not sucky combo fields, but hey, you need to be right no matter what, dont you?

With that said, we have 8 fields out of 9 that are amazing 5-6 that are good-great vs bosses. Thanks again for demonstrating that you truly knew nothing about the usefulness of fields and finishers. Hopefully now you know the rest of the story (sorry, inside joke)

And you have shown us that you have no clue about usefullness and just look blandly at some words and numbers and think it is great.
When combofinishers are so great, who does no one uses them active and just takes their passiv effect and is fine with it? Its simple, combo finishers do suck and only Trash Wars 2 players find them all good and usefull.

exactly im not going to stop dpsing the boss to go leap or w/e in a combo field to gain lets say retaliation so if the boss does hit me that sucker will feel the full MIGHT of 300 damage returning off his 5k atk. Wont he feel dumb?
