It’s already hilarious when a thief tries to sneak up on you with a mini equipped. Not need to make the mini show exactly where the thief is too.
That’s a good point – should minis stealth when their owners stealth?
I really like the way the Mini Red Spark teleports. If they always kept up, we’d never see that cool animation.
Still, I suppose that’s not enough reason for all the others to lag behind. =/
No reason why the red spark mini couldn’t stay at its current speed even if other minis are faster and keep teleporting. It would make for a little more variety and interest.
I’d really like to know what their plans are going forward. And I know I’m not alone. How hard is it to put up a simple response?(Here instead of Reddit.)
You’re definitely not alone there. Even if they only put up a response on Reddit, I’m sure Just a Flesh Wound would link us a post to it here. (Hat tip to him) I haven’t seen one so I presume they haven’t even posted anything even on reddit.
Been suggested numerous times in the past. But yes, it would be a great way to incorporate tonics. I’d say it shouldn’t even be just endless ones. They already have a system in place where limited use items can fit right alongside infinite ones (the finisher system) so I’d like to see ALL tonics get incorporated into such a bank / wardrobe type system.
THIIIIIIS ^
How does one troll with kitchen and bathroom fixtures? And why do mine only have water?
…Oooh, it’s supposed to be FACETS.
I just assumed “faucet” meant “thing that consistently spits out boons”. Which is true either way, actually. :P
Yeah I got it….
—but that’s not what he typed…
…still want to know why mine only have water….
:p
That’s because your faucet is trolling you, like the OP said…
It would be nice if ground-based minis didn’t hover in the air when you’re standing on a narrow ledge or something. If the mini can’t find somewhere to stand near me (scoot in close, little buddy. I won’t bite.) then it should stand on the ground far below. Only the mini-Teq and other flying minis are allowed to hover.
In the constant zones I would allow pc characters to versus one another (this could maybe be done by clicking on a player nearby and asking if he wants to combat). There could also be rewards for this, or restrictions imposed if you do it without permission. I don’t believe in ‘not allowing’ these things to happen, because that isn’t realistic.
Whoa, whoa, wait, wait, wait.
One of your first threads (now deleted) on this forum was complaining about virtual animal rights, how wrong it was that we can kill the innocent animals and they should all be marked green. Now you turn around and say we should be able to gank other players without their permission because it would be realistic?
Ok,
So, say for example you are in a town and I come in and hit you with my sword. Before I am allowed to initiate a second attack, you will be given two choices (perhaps more?) by the computer:
1. Engage in combat. Earn points for each successful hit and for a win.
2. Refuse to engage in combat. You do not earn any points. I am notified of your choice. If I ignore it and attack you again Ascalon guards would come and arrest me and I will be put in jail for a period of time. Perhaps I could also lose some money, who knows. But you won’t be killed or affected by my second hit. Or if you are capable of being killed that would be really funny… I’m sure there’s ways around this to make everyone happy.
3. Complain to the army that you are being hassled. If you were in ‘combat’ mode and you choose this option, you may lose points. I am notified of your choice and delivered a warning from the guards which I had better follow.
Sound good?
Not really. I don’t want some stranger hitting on me.
Just out of curiosity, how is this different than having a bot farm for you? The only real difference I can see is that it’s a bot bought from the gemstore rather than a bot from an outside program.
It is different in the same way that buying gems to convert to gold is different from going to third party gold sellers. It could generate revenue for the game.
That said, who knows if it would offset any development costs.
In other words…. the only difference is that it’s a gemstore bot rather than an outside program.
Thanks. That’s exactly what I thought.
Exactly.
As has long been established, official versions of things that would be considered inappropriate if originating with a third party are fine.
They, potentially, add a revenue source for ongoing development of the game. Of course specific elements should be considered carefully to avoid damaging the game.
Yes it’s an excellent idea having bots do the boring, tedious gathering and moneymaking parts of the game. I’m all for it myself. I hope they add chest opening bots also. It’s a pain logging in on my chars parked at a JP each day. A gemstore bot to do that for me would be great. Maybe even one that can do my metal and wood node run also. I’d pay for that.
I’m going to admit that I’ve followed your posts on the forums since I started. You always seemed to have a lot of wisdom to offer, and the work you’re doing on the Dev quotes from reddit is exemplary. But …in this particular case, it’s beginning to seem like you’ve got a bee in your bonnet about bots and it’s clouding the conversation. My original issue was that the home instance is taking us away from the social/danger/fun aspects of the game, unlike jp chests and wood/ore runs where we meet other people/fight monsters/conquer the jp. Officially developed bots for farming the home node were my suggestion, but that’s by no means the only or even the best option, as others have already shown here. A bot is not evil by definition, any more than a macro. Some are used for good, some for bad. So let’s put aside the bots and talk about how to make the home instance more interesting. At the very least, could that darn Found Bandit Chest please stop moving around? It’s in a different place every day. It’s my home instance, dangit! Who keeps moving my stuff?!?!
My response was to another person who was said to me that having gemstore harvesting bots was a good idea as long as it was properly managed. He’s the one who brought up a post of mine from over two days ago and restarted the conversation about bots. If you don’t want that discussed, then speak to him about it. I hadn’t posted in this thread since then untill he spoke to me personally and brought the matter back up.
My apologies then. I guess I misunderstood. All good.
Good work jesters! I’m glad to hear your mini was able to get reacquainted with his roots. It can be hard for a central-Tyrian-raised mini to adapt to their Maguuma heritage. The cultural shock can be severe. They’re raised in safe face-roll neighbourhoods with uncontested waypoints. Suddenly finding themselves in a multi-tiered jungle with dangerous mordrem where the only way to get around is to run can be an eye opener.
I’m sorry to hear that the rolling is still an issue. This may be hard to accept but… have you considered that maybe your mini just isn’t a roller? There’s nothing wrong with that. Some arrowheads are rollers, some are straight-walkers. It’s not a lifestyle choice. It’s just the way they’re born. In the wild, it can be difficult for an arrowhead that’s different. There’s still a lot of discrimination against straight arrowheads in the old world. But it sounds like you’ve given your mini a good, loving home and that’s all anyone can ask for. He’s a very lucky mini. All the best to you both.

Also make it possible to tie balloons to monsters to extract them and recruit them as your staff.
To be honest, I think your idea is pretty good, I never can be bothered to enter my home instance everyday. But adding more incentive to go there might be a better solution.
A ZOO for your home instance, only 4500 Gems. LIMITED time only!
Of course once you buy the zoo you still need to go an capture the animals!
I LOVE IT. Gotta catch ’em all!!!
Maybe it just doesn’t know how? Sure, you’ve probably demonstrated it, but you’re not exactly shaped like an arrowhead. (I’m assuming there.)
Maybe you need to take it into the jungle and show it a real arrowhead, so it can see how it’s done. Of course, there’s the risk it will run off and join it’s brethren. But all babies must leave the nest eventually.
Thoughts for the day: why does it take a player like ‘Just a flesh wound’ to bring us developer news from reddit on that other thread? Why can’t a dev posting on reddit also make a post here linking to his reddit post, just as flesh wound is doing? Or why isn’t there an anet staffer doing flesh wound’s job? And if flesh wound is going to do anet’s work for them, why isn’t he getting paid for it?
Thank you, Just a flesh wound.
We should have our own space. Just like in real life, you have you social time and you have your private time. With the home instance you can invite others to come in if you wish, which makes it social if we want it to be.
But.. do you really go into your home instance for private time? What do you do in there? It’s not like there’s a pinball machine or a pool table to play with. (Gaile – suggestion: add a pinball machine or pool table) And with all those npcs hanging about, is it really private? I can feel them watching me when I go into my home instance to read my PlaySylvari magazine. (For the articles, of course!)
Mastery for next expansion: Climbing. And picture the animation, it would look like a Japanese horror movie.
Perhaps the first tier of that mastery could be the ability to step over tiny bumps in the landscape while simply walking or running? I often find myself coming to a dead stop when there’s nothing visibly blocking me, only to discover that I need to jump over some polygon that was 1 pixel higher than the rest.
So much time without a proper answer… I feel so discouraged…
Colin himself said something few weeks ago. On Reddit…
Do you mean that disparaging you’re-for-esports-or-you’re-against-gw2 post he wrote or has he written something since?
Rather than holding the right mouse button, assign a key to the action camera toggle and use the action camera on the jp. It simplifies things to no end.
Thank you all for your input. My responses below:
@Aidan Savage – sorry, I don’t understand the scenario you’re describing. I’m not disputing it, I just don’t understand it yet. Need to think about it some more.
@Draknar – here come some more words.. sry
@Gaile – we’ve all seen people vociferously argue that this is a multiplayer game. Farming the home instance is the opposite of that. It’s mostly a single-player experience, it’s safe and it’s boring. Who farms the quartz in the queen skritt’s chamber every day? Many do, because it’s exciting and it’s social. Sneaking in there, grabbing the quartz before somebody aggroes the skritt. That’s how farming should be. Same with Malchor’s leap, fighting risen with others while collecting trees and ores. That’s the gaming we want, and that you want us to have.
@DiogoSilva – Thank you. You’ve explained what I meant better than I did. And your other points are exemplary.
@Just a flesh wound – a ‘bot’ is just another npc charged with a task. The difference is that ‘bot’ is usually used in the derogative sense to describe an npc that performs a task that we consider unethical or against the rules of the game. An npc created by anet for a specific task according to their rules and conforming to various checks and balances, not to mention a monetary cost, would be just another tool for the player, not a means of cheating the game.
@Rauderi – good points. The home instance farming npc should be exempt from the dailies. Other checks and balances could apply.
@Renkencen – I would like the option. It would be a player’s discretion whether the cost was worth it. You may want the mats, and be willing to pay for them. I’m just trying to get out of the house more.
The core issue here is that there’s nothing social or exciting about the home instance. The only reason we go in there is for the monetary/material rewards. It almost feels…. gr.. gri… no, I won’t say it. It just doesn’t feel like playing a social multiplayer game.
So here’s a crazy idea: what if there was a node you could collect which spawned a random monster in your home instance when you entered, once a day? Imagine the juicy tension of going in there not knowing if you’ll be facing an ooze or a mordrem sniper. Imagine battling a pack of pocket raptors in the streets of Salma! A new monster every day.
And if we’re being really crazy, I’m imagining a collection which catalogues all the monsters you’ve battled in your home instance. But that’s just my pokemon-ocd talking.
Someone previously suggested a mastery that would improve node discovery too. I like that idea, although yours isn’t bad either. Any kind of jedi node “sense” would be awesome.
This is an idea I’ve raised before – it’s tedious going back into the home instance each day to farm the various nodes, etc we have in there. Unlike the open world, we don’t meet other people in there, we don’t encounter any monsters. It lacks the social nature or variety of the open world farming.
So, why not give us the option of hiring npc workers to farm our home instance and deposit the goods directly into our materials/bank? We would pay these workers some silver each day for their trouble, which would not only be a money sink but also give it some verisimilitude and let us concentrate on more interesting things. You don’t even need to create any animations. We don’t need to see the workers working. Just drop some mats in our bank and pay their wages each day at changeover. Just a thought.
With all due respect, I’m sceptical about the purpose of this thread. It’s abundantly clear from the forums that the playerbase is in favour of greater communication from anet. Was there doubt about this? Plenty of players have written thoughtful and polite posts about company/customer communications. Inviting further comment on communication seems.. well, to be honest it seems like misdirection to divert attention away from the real problem. We’re all familiar with this strategy. We encounter it every day in the media, from politicans, etc. Talking about communication (or joking about communications leading the communications team to communicate, etc) are not offering any real.. communication. I’m not suggesting shutting down this thread by any means. But frankly there have been enough comments from the player base about communications. What’s lacking is the feedback from the other side, and that’s what this thread could benefit from. Insights from anet as to why communication is so sparse and what’s been done to improve it. And the feedback needs to feel genuine. Empty platitudes and misdirection are not as effective in the modern world as they once were. Real communication is needed.
I took a break from these forums for three or so weeks and on returning, I’m stunned that this thread is still going and there still hasn’t been any communication from anet. Then I think about that and I’m stunned that I’m stunned by that.
The employees that do voluntarily get on the forums or Reddit, should not be doing so on their own time without the oversight of a professional versed in corporate communications.
My thoughts exactly.
I’d like to get the sw legendary bosses, not just for the m-points but to complete that ach and get some titles, but so far I’m having trouble finding them. If I’m hanging around one fort, I’m always wondering if there’s a boss at some other fort. Is there any strategy that might help my chances of finding these bosses?
I used to be an Revenant like you, then I took a pocket raptor in the knee.
also, are they hardcoded to not drop loot?
Indeed, seems the little swines don’t even carry any loot at all.
They’re tiny! How could you expect the poor things to carry something big as a greatsword for some player to loot it from them?
Then again, when you get chest armour from a wolf, you have to wonder if Tyrian animals have an innate ability to harness hammerspace. From all the magic flying around, I would suppose.
There’s a part of me that is considering writing a guide for HoT. Not just for a map event, but HoT in general. It would be titled: How to survive in a H.O.T. climate, and the first section would be: Crap Happens, and how to handle loss. Then I would go over each enemy, what to watch out for, and how to beat them.
What is holding me back from writing such a guide is the fact that I’m not sure anyone would really benefit from it. The type of person who would go to the forums and complain for… is it months now? Yeah, the the type of person who would go to the forums and complain that the maps are too hard for months because they apparently always get jumped by a bazillion impossible enemies… they aren’t the kind of person who can be helped by a text guide on the web. They fight learning. In order to teach them anything you’d basically have to grind up books into a fine paste and hide it in their ketchup.
I’d read it. I like reading up on the enemies in games I play and getting some insights on them. It may not be worth writing it for just one person, although I’m sure there are others who would enjoy it too – but you might also consider writing it for your own satisfaction or the noble goal of adding to the pool of knowledge.
Also, the lightning on my air overload is still sparse even when I’m within range of a target. Sometimes you can’t even see it when it’s apparently firing.
Is it ruining your play experience having a single line of text on your screen that can be easily ignored? It will probably stay up there for a while. What does it matter?
It matters that there’s an ad for the raid, an ad for the ESL and other pvp stuff – and at one point it was also showing my pvp rank up there. I have no interest in these things, yet I have no option to hide them.
Do you use any ad blockers when you browse the net? Or doesn’t it matter?
-1 easy achievements should not give titles
You can tag all 5 bosses in one night cycle if you know what you are doing. There is no inactivity timer on these events.
You mean, like how you can get the title of “mentor” just for collecting a little xp?
And who says easy achievements shouldn’t give titles? If you’re talking title prestige, they already have different levels of prestige. You get “The Sunbringer” for completing all Teq achievements (and that takes some effort) whereas you get “Killer Queen” just for participating in the Karka Queen fight, which isn’t hard. If somebody gets an easy title and wants to wear it, that doesn’t affect anyone else.
Also look at what the Nuhoch actually look like – they look like offsprings of Frogger and Pacman. How exactly do they move through these wallows themselves?
Good point. O_O How do they even stand upright..?!?
The Exalted. ….wouldn’t it be more logical if they resided in Glint’s lair? We visited it in LS2 and it’s where we learned about the egg.
Was Glint’s lair the cave at the end of LS2? (Spoiler: there’s a cave at the end of LS2).
Just finished LS2 recently and when I saw that cave I thought it was part of the Exhalted empire – the architecture seemed so similar. I was almost expecting some kind of hint of the Exhalted at that point but I guess they hadn’t been invented yet.
About Faolain – after playing LS2 I actually felt sympathetic towards here, more so than any other character, especially more than Eir or Caithe. I won’t say any more except that her reasons were sound even if her methods were brutal. The HOT story just wasted her. She was a deeper character than any of the DE crew. I was more saddened by Faolin’s pointless outcome than I was about Eir’s pointless outcome.
If they had gliding in WvW then Sky Commander would be exceptionally appropriate.
Just imagine it. A squadron of Commanders all with tags on, gliding across the WvW borderlands. It would be beautiful.
…and battling giant robots? I want to drive a giant robot. Like a golem, but much MUCH bigger. And can I get the title “Mech Warrior”..?
I like the new aura animations. Much less obtrusive and classy looking.
Dude. The polls have closed. They’ve already picked the White Knight of 2015. But I suppose an early start on next year’s awards can’t hurt.

I’ve said before that I like hearing my character, but I’d hate for other people to hear him. I wish there was an option to turn down other people’s characters.
I’m no so sure about (1) – some of the bosses are really big and it’s going to be hard to both watch them and look above them.
Each nerf brings us closer to the ultimate optimisation: a black screen where we use our imagination! Imagine the fps on that!!
I was joking when I said the above… but this weekend, several times a day, the screen has gone black though the mouse is still visible and the sound keeps playing, as if the game is still going on. Be afraid.
Ooh, as in the Ring of Fire? Or The Crystal Desert/Elona? Or Cantha? (Or do you mean underground, like in Eye of the North?)
Way down, underground.
I never played Eye of the North, but I’m imagining something like Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”. Maybe we could even get a glimpse of where the Mega Destroyer sleeps when he’s not fighting.
Eye of the North included (as per the wiki page) “An immense interconnected underground complex of natural caves and excavated areas underneath Tyria.” Was quite cool. Dwarven mines and halls. A bit like dungeon tilesets.
Any balrogs down there….?

Recently I roll back from Windows 10 to 8.1. The performance and stability are much better off. Unless running on the latest hardware, DX12 won’t be truly optimized.
Same here. Windows 10 does bad things to GW2.
Query: which direction would people like to explore most? I’m sure you can all tell that I want to go anywhere east of Queensdale, but what about you guys? Straight north? Further west? South?
Down.
It’s great and all that the devs prefer to post on reddit but I prefer to hear from them on here. How about a little quid pro quo, anet? If you communicate here at least as much as you do on reddit, I will read reddit at least as much as I read this forum.
What! Optional items in the gemstore that I don’t have to purchase unless I want to!?!
How dare they!
A good company would have forced us to buy them.
And then punished you if you didn’t.
Maybe that whip focus has a use after all.
I’ve got a chain focus to go with your whip.
Undocumented Gilded Hollow Map Changes

They made massive changes to the guild hall at least 2 times already. They seem to be doing these updates on a 2 weeks basis at the moment. The more notable changes are located at the top of the guild hall. They added an entire section with a big tree in it than remove the tree next update and added another big section elsewhere.
I lost a few decorations in those changes but since I litterally spent weeks to build my jumping puzzles, I’m not going to press that reset button anytime soon. It would be too much work.
Btw, if you want to visit the top of the guild hall and are confident in your jumping puzzle skills give me a call. I built 4 different puzzle already ranging from easy to nearly impossible. No one has been able to beat the hard one yet
Sounds intriguing. I enjoy Troll’s Revenge so let me at ’em!
Can’t optimize well so they remove the cool effects. “People hate cool looking games….” Said no one ever.
Wait, it’s better-optimized now? I didn’t notice any difference… O.o
It is no better optimized.
Sure it is. Each nerf brings us closer to the ultimate optimisation: a black screen where we use our imagination! Imagine the fps on that!!
Norn Motha?
(As in, Mon Montha, the only other female in the SW universe apart from Leia and Aunt Beru)
I agree. It’s annoying to lose the sense of progression after feeling it for a while. Having finished all my core tyria masteries, it’s anti-climatic.
Couldn’t have said it better.
Quaggon Jinn?! +1
It’s not as clever but…. Obi Quaggon Kenobi?
Charr Charr Binks
Blast it… that was mine! xD
I’ll have to sink to… Charrbacca. Or Luke Skyhammer. Or Leia Organic Sylvaro.
Charr… Too Dee Too….?
Everything changed when the fire nation attacked.
Don’t worry… I control the primal forces of nature: fire, water, air, earth. I am the Avatar.
That stuff is annoying for it’s money-grubbing philosophy… but it’s also annoying for it’s uselessness. As people have pointed out, those that aren’t interested don’t want it and even those that are interested, don’t need it.
There is extra information I wouldn’t mind seeing on my screen, such as world boss timers – with it being completely optional, of course. Because it needs to be pointed out to anet that features should be optional and not globally enforced).
Now that I’ve gotten over the shock of the fireballs…. I started paying attention to the auras… and it’s true. They’re practically invisible, even zoomed up close. Clearly, the force is not strong with this patch.
