Umm that would take away whole point of raid. They are meant to be hardcore content, if you want an easy mode of raid then we also want hardcore version of dungeons.

Not a bad idea. Give hardcore players more options. Give everybody more options.

Come to think of it, if the entire point of reducing ….shudder…. “visual noise” .. is to allow players to know what a monster is about to do, why not let the effects stay and have an announcer at each boss tell you what he’s going to do, as Teq does. Or are the other world bosses too cheap to get a personal announcer?

Do we SPOILER SPOILER since he SPOILER?

I say, bring on more masteries, stat! I don’t care if they’re trivial – for example, a mastery that, once fully trained, allows me to wear my hat at a jaunty angle. I just want more things to complete. And I want to wear my hat at a jaunty angle.

I don’t appreciate me paying $50 for content I can beat in mere moments. I like the challenge and I want more of it. I’m content with having a lot of game being casual-friendly, but isn’t it fair for more “hardcore” players to have something for them too?

Others feel the same about paying $50 for raids they’ll never use. I think one big flaw of the expansion was maybe lumping too much in one package: new technologies, new game modes, new areas, new story, new profession, almost ensuring that nobody would be happy with the whole thing. It’s all very inter-dependent and complicated now, but it makes me wonder if it couldn’t have been split into several smaller, cheaper stages, maybe separating the tech (masteries) from the content (hot), maybe making raids an optional extra. There’s no way of knowing really.

That's enough!

The precursor crafting collections are a disaster. Only do them if you really want one of the new legendaries or want the few AP that come with the collections.

There’s another way to look at it. I don’t really care about the legendaries. I like completing collections and the crafting ones have some fun items and activities to do with friends.

I hadn’t given any serious consideration to crafting a legendary before… but when the legendary collections came out I was hooked. It’s a great big scavenger hunt and I’m enjoying it. I haven’t got to the part of actually crafting the precursor as you describe, and maybe that’ll seem daunting when it happens, but the initial stages of finding the items is quite fun so far.

You know, I still don’t get what is going through Anet’s heads. If we (or at least most of us) could figure out that its not the size of the projectile but the splash particles that causes this so called “visual noise”, why couldn’t Arenanet? I don’t get how they can look at things like the auras as being in need of “adjustment” when they don’t contribute to at all to visual clutter. Why does any of these seem like a good idea to anyone?

Because the changes were specifically targeted at gameplay where that doesn’t come into play. It’s purely for esports; Colin said as much in a blog post earlier this year.

But that still doesn’t make sense, minimizing visual effects should make it harder on the esports bullkitten. Viewers will have even more trouble seeing what happening on screen, especially in regards to the auras. I can hardly see the aura zoomed in on my own character, how can a spectator tell?

Maybe this is all an April Fool’s joke and they got it in too early..

(quote from UnbentMars.9126)Ever heard the saying that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar? It’s accurate in regards to interacting with people too.(/quote)

I have a variety of tools in my belt. Sometimes to shape wood you need sandpaper.

Good to see you’ve got several tools available to you. Have you considered management consulting?

Seems like you’re shooting the messenger. I don’t care if Nike is abrasive. What he’s saying is spot on. I too have championed catching flies with honey instead of vinegar but in this case the flies are bees who prefer to bring nectar to other hives but their own because their own won’t let them and it’s leading to colony collapse.

EDIT: Had to mangle your original quote there with the flies, Unbent because the forum engine seems to cut out quotes three-deep.

Assigning hot-keys to inventory items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Why should they put in hotkeys for such things when they sell primers in the gem store. Hotkeys would cut down on the sales of primers and affect their profits.

The food was just an example. I’d be using it for all sorts of things, like seed turrets and healing seed pods, elemental powder and ogre whistles, or other consumables and bundles.

But if they put food in, it cuts into their sales and if they leave food out then people would want to know why it’s not one of the options (and then get angry at the gem store for affecting game design and game play). This way, it’s does but it’s not obvious.

They…uhm.. don’t seem to particularly care if people get angry. But you’re probably right about the way it would be received.

Is there any way to assign a key to a specific item in your inventory? For example, if you’re using food and it runs out, rather than opening your inventory and double-clicking it, can you assign a key (e.g. F) to eat it instead? If I remember correctly, food is something you can use in the middle of combat and when it runs out mid-combat it’s risky opening inventory to eat some more.

If this option isn’t available, can anyone see any negative ramifications if it were to be implemented? Hopefully something more than “stop being lazy and open your inventory”. More along the lines of: would this unfairly affect other players?

It seems from what Collin said that they intended to add some option controls, if I read it correctly. So it’s odd that they didn’t start from that end, especially since doing it the other way may involve some rework (based on my own experience with something similar in my own work).

Check out reddit, plenty of responses from Colin on there. Why they choose that over their own forums is strange though.

Read the comments above you, feel the rage and anger and how they are ready to tear apart anyone who has different opinion. I wonder why devs dont respond here.

Arguably some portion of the rage/anger is justified due to anet’s actions. But that’s all beside the point – this is their official forum and they have a professional duty to administer it, not run scared or criticise their customers on a third-party forum. They’re not children avoiding a bully. The devs don’t have to respond. Colin doesn’t have to respond. A properly trained customer relations person needs to respond, and if that person isn’t available in-company, hire one. This is a standard business situation with tried and tested solutions. Every business faces it and handle it with varying degrees of success. There is no justification for a company to avoid communication on their own forum (this point cannot be stressed enough) because “it’s too toxic”. And it’s wrong to excuse it, as you keep doing. Running a business means managing your customers and guiding them to an outcome which avoids conflict, creates greater satisfaction and leads them to buy more of your product. To do otherwise isn’t just unprofessional, it’s foolish and detrimental to the business.

[I’m really trying not to say any more on this topic, and especially not repeat myself, but customer relations is an interest of mine and a big part of my work, so it bugs me to see it so badly managed.]

why are people complaining about the reduction in clutter? it has nothing to do with machine quality, i just don’t want to have a seizure when i am trying to do a boss fight.

this game was like a bad rave party at times. the 90s have been dead for awhile, guys. good riddance.

It’s almost like you didn’t read any of the many posts which answered your question.

EDIT: That wasn’t meant to sound insulting. It just continues to surprise me that there are people who are surprised that a globally enforced solution, which doesn’t address the problem but creates another, would cause some discontent.

it was mostly a rhetorical, “i can’t believe it” statement. i agree that an option is the strictly better implementation.

that said, before this change there were “omg, the glitter effects in this game are ridiculous!” posts so i think that opinion on this matter varies. just like with any forum, the complaints aren’t always majority. the people who aren’t mad are busy playing the game.

You make exactly the right point – “opinion on this matter varies”, as it does on any subject. People have different needs/likes and clearly blanket solutions don’t work. And yet… here we are. My poor brain is tired of boggling.

Nerf the “Violets, not violence”. Nerf the “Get some water from the dolyaks, and put out those fires!” audio spam.

Or those shouts. The new ones are totally narm, overly complex, situational, like something a child would consider “epic” after he sees a superhero cartoon. When repeated 1000 times while you play a shout build in a new multiple hour HoT map, that sounds just awful.

On this point, I love my shouts. I love hearing “Feel the burn!” “Aftershock!”

But at the same time, it’s embarrassing to think other people are hearing that. I would love an option so only I can hear my shouts.

I’d be happy with an option for both.

My husband and I play in the same room next to each other. He keeps his sound off because he can’t stand all the audio spam. I keep mine on low, but no matter how low it is, every time he hears, “Feel the burn [bern]!” he makes some remark about “feel the Bernie Sanders!”.. between him and the shouts and the random stuff… “dolyaks. .violets, I like that, I earned that, look at that! So pretty! This rose has thorns and here they are! Chilled to the bone, you are all weaklings!” a girl will lose her mind!

(Sorry about the poor quality, only have kittenty old MS Paint to work with)

I’m sorry to say that your approach was a little ..heavy handed. As the poor guy said several times, he’s not responsible for the issue and he handled the conversation very peacefully all things considered. It would probably be more effective to befriend anet devs if you see them in-game. Getting them on your side makes them more likely to champion your causes, rather than frightening them from entering the game. But I understand your frustration. It’s not easy finding the right way to explain that frustration to the person who is (seemingly) responsible. If you see him, or another dev again, try to win him over. It’s worth it.

Nope. Already tried that bullkitten. Doesn’t work with these guys.

I don’t doubt that you have, but it’s not going to be a quick process winning hearts and minds.. and it’s not up to you alone. We should all befriend the devs if we see them. (Adopt a dev today! lol)

And before you mistake me for a white knight, my goal is the same as yours: to improve a game I enjoy. I just think a full frontal assault isn’t going to work in this case. Just my 2 coppers.

I’m sorry, but they’re seemingly making absolutely no effort to befriend us, and they already got our money, I see no reason to act as the nice guy.

Great response, I agree. We have a right to express our opinion in the forum as long as our posts are within the rules.

I am in a very small guild of friends who used to play regularly. We all had different schedules but every now and then our schedules aligned and we enjoyed playing GW2 together. As HoT approached, Anet started neglecting the game. No new stuff or even replay of old Festivals until the expansion came out. After a while, my friends and I started playing less and less. Finally, Halloween and then the Expansion. We come back only to discover that Anet has decided that our Guild doesn’t count. Since 3 of us are hardly on at one time, and we only party up about half the time as we are often working on different stuff, our Guild is dead. So much for playing as I enjoy.

And the same goes for Mastery Points. It isn’t a question of whether I can find a way to do them. It is a question of whether it will be fun.

With all due respect, Sir/Ms., your sincere disappointment isn’t shared by many, even if valid from your particular point of view.

Really? You polled all the players in the game? Can I see the data?

Are you serious? Did you read at all (even the small sentence you are quoting)? And was I disrespectful to you in any way or fashion as you are being to me there?

How am I being disrespectful? I asked a question. You state that my disappointment isn’t shared by many. How could you know that if you hadn’t received opinions from them?

The question is obviously disrespectful, trolling, quite the childish mockery, and an insult to anyone’s intelligence. Read your very own reply, and find your own answer therein-failing that, re-read the whole thread.

You couldn’t be serious or otherwise are just trolling to provoke. If that’s true, don’t waste our time please. I never insulted you for being “disappointed”, nor even invalidated your right to feel as you wish-don’t attack me for feeling very differently than you do.

If I can offer a little objective third-party perspective without agreeing or disagreeing with either side… I think it’s unproductive to call Djinn’s question “trolling” or a “childish mockery”. It seems like nothing more than a joke born of frustration he’s feeling in the game (whether it’s deserved or not) and calling it trolling doesn’t leave much room for the real trolling, which is much worse. I didn’t think any less of you, Star Ace, after reading Djinn’s question. It just doesn’t come across as insulting or attacking. Let’s put those terms aside and continue with the discussion of the topic.

Anet,

Isn’t it about time for a response on this thread? This is affecting the morale of your customers and in the end that affects your profit through customer retention and gem store purchases. To be blunt, avoiding this thread for so long is unprofessional and inexplicable. This is the first place you want to resolve issues like these, before they get out into the wider world via other forums. Ignoring this just doesn’t make any business sense. I, like many others, care about this game. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother to discuss this point time and again, as objectively as I can. There is a clear failure of customer relations in this forum and I cannot believe that you are unaware of this. If there is no-one on staff with the training or time to manage this forum and provide at least the impression that you’re listening, hire somebody – even temporarily. Hire an intern and introduce them with the disclaimer that they’re only learning, that they might make mistakes but at least you’re providing a point of contact. The player base will, I’m sure, accept and appreciate the effort. Your customers just want engagement with you. Again, I can’t believe I’m saying anything you’re not already aware of and I cannot guess at the reasons why you keep silent when it’s detrimental to your business, and when some simple customer expectation management – for which there is ample training and resources out there – would benefit your business. Your players don’t expect you to be omnipotent or infallible. They want to help you grow this game. Sometimes they will disagree on your directions but avoiding that discussion isn’t going to make the problem go away, not here and not in any other avenue of life.

Look..This expansion was running just fine.
It wasn’t until 2k crybabies got on the forums complaining it was too hard
that Anet tried to modify something that they shouldn’t (in my eyes) have. Something went very wrong.
The Expansion was labeled “Elite Content” and should have stayed that way.
I hope the 2k Carebears are happy they broke the game.

The expansion lumped hard content with a set of new technologies (like masteries) that will affect all players, forcing all players to either pay for content that will only be enjoyable to some or face having no further progression in this game.

An argument could be made that there should have been a separation between the technological update (masteries) and the content expansion (jungle). Or that the update should have included some casual content or perhaps scaling to accommodate the variety of players that will buy the expansion.

I was recently discussing this thread on another thread (it’s becoming something of a meme) and I realised something: maybe anet want to respond to this thread but they just don’t know how.

So I came up with these questions which might help:

1. What was the reasoning for reducing the size of projectiles? My fireball, for example, is only visible between myself and the target, during which time it is pretty much on its own and does not contribute to any visual clutter. Once it arrives at the destination, it is replaced by a different object, usually some kind of fire or explosion animation – and it is the combination of my explosion/fire animation and that of other players which obscures the target. It would seem more efficient to adjust the dimensions of the final animation rather than the projectile.

2. Is there any plan to introduce the visual options/slider idea, proposed in this and other threads, to allow a player to customise their visual experience? The question is not asking for a commitment on when such a feature might be implemented, merely the confirmation of whether such a feature is being considered.

3. If the above idea to customise the visuals is not being considered, what is the reasoning for that? Players have a variety of rigs, monitor sizes and biological differences. Any global solution may resolve the issue for some players, but it will still be too cluttered for others. Clearly, a player must have the means to customise their own experience based on their needs if the most effective solution is desired.

If anything, the desert map belongs as an alternative map, like EotM.

I agree with that. I like the desert map. If only it could somehow coexist alongside alpine and eotm.

Can the developpers please stop ignoring us?

They’re not ignoring anyone.

cough visual nerfs [merged] cough

They talked to us about visual nerfs. It was in the patch notes. In fact, they nerfed the visuals specifically due to long term complaints about noise in battles and not being able to see what’s going on.

The visual nerf complaints is a tiny minority of posts compared to the noise posts.

The visual nerf thread is now longer than other threads where anet have responded and it’s still growing when just a little communication from anet could soothe the savage beast. Curious, don’t you think?

I think it’s curious that you haven’t bothered to add up the dozens if not hundreds of threads over the years complaining about not being able to see. It’s been a major concern for a long long time.

And how many of the pages in that visual nerf thread are people arguing for it?

You’re missing my point. The subject of the thread is irrelevant. The issue is that a post is fermenting unneccesarily when a little management of customer expectations could guide it to a peaceful conclusion. (And as people have pointed out, the solution to the visual clutter was ham-fisted and arguably didn’t address the issue.)

@Swift – I just had an idea in the “That’s Enough” thread. Here it is: I’d like a map that is one huge desert with several lost tombs or ruins in it, but spaced so far apart that you can’t see one from the other. A person could spend days just wandering the desert, feeling like they’re the only one on the planet. Imagine the surprise when you come across another player or a tomb. You could wander about on your lonesome, or organise some kind of strategic line of players combing the desert. Shouldn’t be very hard to design, right? A whole lotta sand.

It could also include a mechanic where every day, at roll-over, there’s a sandstorm and the locations of the tombs change.

Oh, the serenity. Just a man and his thoughts. ….and possibly his mini.

Ooh, very nice. Sounds awesome. Could even have foes that spring up from under the sand (GW1-devourer-style), and some are champions – so if you hear a map-shout for help, you may or may not reach the player in time… (ant-lion traps?)

Yes!! They could reuse the mouths from the SW breach to create unexpected pits where an unwary boba fe—-uh, player could stumble into.

And mirages…. heck, imagine if they could put that in.

A strange thing happened yesterday.

I was running through Malchor’s Leap on the way to an event and passing a little cave between some rocks, I saw:

A candy corn node.

In a moment, as if it had noticed me looking at it, it disappeared. Had it really been there at all….. or was I touched by King Thorn’s madness?

What now? This is your quote…

“That’s OK. For some white knights ANet could sell an expansion with absolutely nothing in it for $100 and they would still defend an love it.”

So the implication…hell you’re just about saying it, is that this game is only liked by white knights who will defend Anet over everything.

Nope.

What he said is that some individuals (which he calls white knights) would love, “it.” Not that only white knights like the game, etc.

He did, after all, state that he likes the game (at least aspects of it).

Really? lol

This is the entirety of his FIRST post in this thread:

“That’s OK. For some white knights ANet could sell an expansion with absolutely nothing in it for $100 and they would still defend an love it.
For each their own.”

This is what I responded to. AFTERWARDS he said he likes the game. Do you get that from this post? Because I sure don’t.

Anyone who denies the implications of this post is not paying attention.

To be accurate… THIS is the entirety of his first post. (It doesn’t say he likes the game either, but it is his actual first post.)

“Probably still in the honeymoon phase.

After playing a bit more and realizing how little there actually is, you might feel different.

Sorry."

He edited it out.

EDIT: Actually, I don’t think he did. I think the system did it, as it just did to me. I didn’t edit out the above. It seems like there’s a limit to the number of quotes within quotes you can do. Given that, I withdraw my original comment about what was the first post. It no longer applies.
