As an explorer, I’d take 1 Verdant Brink over 5 Brisban Wildlands any day.
I see your Verdant Brink and I raise you 1 Brisban Wildlands + 1 Malchor’s Leap + 1 Silverwastes + 1 Iron Marches + 1 Frostgorge Sound.
I raise you Timberline Falls + Field of Ruin + Diessa Plateau, but I still have to admit to the irreplaceability of your Iron Marches and Frostgorge Sound. Brisban Wildlands runs close behind. Good picks!
Wait… what region is Timberline in? I can’t tell if that’s a pair or three-of-a-kind!
Timberline Falls is in the Shiverpeak Mountains region. Such an awesome map.
So, you have a pair (Timber+Frost) and a three-of-a-kind (Fields+Diessa+Iron)?
Darn. If I’d included a Kryta map I could have beaten you with a full house.
What now? This is your quote…
“That’s OK. For some white knights ANet could sell an expansion with absolutely nothing in it for $100 and they would still defend an love it.”
So the implication…hell you’re just about saying it, is that this game is only liked by white knights who will defend Anet over everything.
Nope.
What he said is that some individuals (which he calls white knights) would love, “it.” Not that only white knights like the game, etc.
He did, after all, state that he likes the game (at least aspects of it).
Really? lol
This is the entirety of his FIRST post in this thread:
“That’s OK. For some white knights ANet could sell an expansion with absolutely nothing in it for $100 and they would still defend an love it.
For each their own.”This is what I responded to. AFTERWARDS he said he likes the game. Do you get that from this post? Because I sure don’t.
Anyone who denies the implications of this post is not paying attention.
To be accurate… THIS is the entirety of his first post. (It doesn’t say he likes the game either, but it is his actual first post.)
“Probably still in the honeymoon phase.
After playing a bit more and realizing how little there actually is, you might feel different.

This reminds me of that Ethan Hawke movie “Gattaca”. He wanted to get on the space shuttle but he had a heart condition. So he impersonated another guy and got on the shuttle. The movie painted that like it was a good thing. And yet, he was endangering everybody else on that shuttle …and they didn’t even know it.
Contrast that with Star Trek III where Kirk and co risk everything to find the regenerated Spock (hope that wasn’t a spoiler for anybody). In that case, the ‘needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many’ (as Kirk put it) was apt, since the many (i.e. Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, etc) knew what they were getting into and chose to do it.
I guess what I’m saying is… Gattaca sucked.
Also, I’m not bothered if a raid group doesn’t want me cause of my specs/skills. They’re dedicating their time/effort to a considerable task and they have a right to know who they’re playing with. I wouldn’t want to be carried if I’m not up to their level. Also, can’t I just create my own raid group, advertising for like-minded people of my skill/spec level?
Asking for auto-bans against people who don’t play the same way seems like a double-edged sword. It can seem like a good idea… until it’s used against you.

They talked to us about visual nerfs. It was in the patch notes. In fact, they nerfed the visuals specifically due to long term complaints about noise in battles and not being able to see what’s going on.
The visual nerf complaints is a tiny minority of posts compared to the noise posts.
The visual nerf thread is now longer than other threads where anet have responded and it’s still growing when just a little communication from anet could soothe the savage beast. Curious, don’t you think?
Mmm… maybe, if I get to play the villain.

If you crash at DS just use 64 bit client. Dev respond more often on reddit because people there are not raging mobs who trying to burn down castle Arena net.
Are you saying that Reddit has zero negativity? GW2 Reddit posters never express concerns? Is that it?
And if Reddit is a naturally superior venue for comments and communication, why don’t they simply close down these forums, save the money it costs to moderate it, and use that exclusively?
Reddit does have negativity of course, but there are also positivity. Player help each other, guide, news, shout out, fan art. This place is pages of complaining after complaining, nothing good ever comes out of here.
BUT IT IS A-NET’S OFFICIAL FORUM for GW2, if they are going to ignore their own forum what does that say about their opinion of their customers?
This ^. To (mis)quote Jack Black from the Tribute music video: “It’s the official forum. Says so on the door.”

Interestingly, there is anet feedback on other threads, like the one about the camera. Repeated, recent conversation. Just not on this thread.
Some people may need to do the PS again (including myself before anyone starts).. Zhaitan had a weakness and that was how easily his energy supply could be cut off. He was weakened enough that brute force could do the trick.
I wonder why people keep ignoring this poster? Geez, people.
I don’t think they’re ignoring it. It’s just that what you’re describing there is… attrition.
And that’s something any living creature is susceptible to, not just Zhaitan. The Elder Dragons are described in the wiki as “forces of nature and primordial forces from the view of Tyrians, the dragons seem no different and just as unstoppable as a blizzard or earthquake.”
Clearly, they’re not unstoppable so the question is: what does it take to stop a dragon? It needs to be something significant or you run the risk of turning a “force of nature” into just some big monster that you can kill like any other monster, only with more force.
That’s where, I think, they made a mistake with Zhaitan. They depicted him as just another big monster you beat by applying attrition until he’s weak, then hit him hard. In doing this, they down-graded his facebook status from “force of nature” to “it’s complicated.”
I also think that’s a mistake they’re trying to remedy with HOT and the whole “weakness” thing. They’re trying to make the dragons seem so powerful again that no amount of physical force can stop them – unless you find the Achilles heel.
(That’s exactly how DS is described: as a distraction so the player can attack M’s Achilles heel: his mind.)
They’re trying to make the dragons again seem like forces of nature. Not completely unstoppable, but requiring something above and beyond what you would use on any other beastie.
At least, that’s my take on it.If you talk to Laranthir during the Mouth fight, he says that DS takes place after Hearts and Minds. It really doesn’t make any sense, but whatever.
Maybe it’s like the “6 Days A Sacrifice” game where events in different points in “time” are all happening simultaneously.
Further to Zoltar’s points, I’d like to clarify that you are confusing “exploration” with “quest”. They do not mean the same thing at all! There are thousands of players who play the game Elite: Dangerous and simply fly off into the stars. There is no limit to the distance they can fly (unless their ship can’t handle huge jumps later on). There is also no reward for flying out there. Players simply go out there to look at new and cool places in the chill atmosphere of their ship (and stream their findings on Twitch). And yet it’s still an MMO..
…….You means Columbus sailed in search of new land because he wanted to look at the stars?
Not for new territory, gold, trade, fame (which means real things)?
Sorry agane but… “exploration” realy means some sort of quest. Exploration without any good, real reason\reward – it’s just… walking (sleepwalking) but not “exploration”.
So.. i’m realy doubt whats “thousands of players” realy like walking around new (painfull) map just for “go out there to look at new and cool places”. First days – yep.. may be. but not now.
And if you want…. living map (not dead one) you better create it a bit more… comfortable for playing. Or maybe Annet prefer 5% (sleepwalkers) more than other 95% ppl….
Columbus just called. He said he was definitely on a “quest” to find a better route from Spain to China. Sure, he did some exploring to get there but it was definitely a quest. Are you calling Columbus a liar?

…my secret wish is for some more mysterious, ancient ruins to explore. No mobs. Just traps, hidden chambers, traps, curious artifacts, and lots of traps. Clever traps, which require lateral thinking to get past. A mysterious pyramid or ziggurat or tomb for me and a couple of friends to explore.
1) We just used the same weapon Mordremoth used against the Dream in the retconed Sylvari Personal Story. (we all know it was retconed. It was a Zaithan minion. The Pale Tree states that)
Wait. I’m not sure I understand you. Are you saying the Sylvari were originally described as Zhaitan’s minions? Can you point me to anything that shows that? I don’t disbelieve you. I just haven’t heard of it before and it’s interesting. I didn’t notice anything in the pre-hot gw2 personal story that indicated this, but maybe I missed it.
True.. boredom is subjective. But ….‘incredibly bizarre’? Incredibly?!
You’ve got me curious. Putting pve aside for now, does it really benefit a raid party or a fractal party or a dungeon party or in pvp if one or more members only uses 1/4 of their weapons and spends part of their time not contributing any dps/healing/control while their skills are on cool-down? Wouldn’t it affect the efficiency of the team and does that matter? I really am curious what people’s thoughts are on this.
I didnt consider PVP as im really inexperienced in it so my opinion wouldnt hold much weight. I was mainly focusing on PVE and dungeons though as thats what the OP’s topic seemed to be focused on.
And yes, if your party members in dungeons and fractals dont NEED any support to survive, you are actually harming the group by using every spell when its off CD. The reason for this is instead of providing solid dps, which will make the boss die faster therefore eliminating its threat and speeding up the run, you are proving a boon that noone needs. The exception applies when the boon will allow them to have sustained dps without needing to dodge or heal, and therefore the tradeoff between your own dps loss and the groups increased dps is worth it, like a guardians aegis. But in general for elementalist its better just to focus on doing damage as thats what they excel at.
Switching out of fire attunement for a staff ele will drop your dps so heavily its down to levels of pre-HOT necro, and if your party doesnt need heals to survive, why do it? Healing them when they dont need healing is pointless. Giving them boons like protection is useless if they dont need it to survive either. Lowering your own dps to provide control is also less helpful when there are tons of other classes which can achieve the same effect without the dps drop.
Raids are different as each member will have a set specific task and will be built for that task. If you are a dps ele in a raid though, you are again going to want to sit in fire and not change for the entire encounter. Lava font is almost spammable and auto attack in fire does more damage than almost all other staff skills.
Hmm.. A lot to think about there. Thank you.
Speaking of PVE, what are the ramifications there, especially for a solo player?
That took two hours. Are we really getting that blase?
ikr. Standards are slipping. I’m even starting to see “I’m quitting” posts without any “give me your lootz” on them. Where has the work ethic gone…?
So now we know each dragon has a “weakness”
hahahaha ok so Mordremoths weakness is pulling a “Freddy Krueger” on him eh?
So Zhaitans “weakness” is battleships and huge cannons?
Oh boy what luck we have they were invented just in time for his awakening else there would be no chance of winning ever.Reminds me of something I once saw on youtube:
One guy runs in and says “I discovered the zombies weakness”, the other asks “what is it?” and he answers “bullets”.I wonder what Zhaitan’s weakness actually was. O_o
He didn’t have any specific “weakness”. You know that. It’s a concept they came up with for HOT and they didn’t even bother to retcon it so it would be consistent for Zhaitan. All it would have taken is a little dialogue:
Player: “Now we know the dragons have a weakness.”
Braham: “Hmm… I wonder .. what was Zhaitan’s weakness?”
Player: “Good question! I was wondering the same thing.”
Taimi: “It says here his weakness was love and friendship. We defeated him with love and friendship.”
Braham: “Ah, of course. Now it all makes sense.”
Now, being a mono-elementalist is actually very selfish. If you choose fire, you may be doing some damage but you’re denying your allies (and yourself) the benefits of healing and control provided by the other attunements. It’s also boring.
Thats an incredibly bizarre way of looking at it. I dont see how using fire only is ‘selfish’ rofl….if anything its actually more beneficial for allies that dont require additional support to survive.
And boring is subjective, but fire ele is simplistic.

Coming soon to the gem store, spell enhancers to undo the visual changes. Only available bundled with a Mordremoth mini and Kormir outfit, because coherent themes are outdated.
My Elementalist’s face thinking about this (and it ain’t good!):
Whoah. Her glowing eyes are bigger than our fireballs!
(edited by Zoltar MacRoth.7146)
Removing attunement recharge (apart from special circumstances like Tempest) would encourage us ELEs to branch out of our preferred element.
A while back there was a guy who said an ele should stick in one attunement (he liked fire too) and that changing attunements made one a ‘bad’ player.
Clearly, he was mad.
But for the sake of argument, let’s call eles who stick in one attunement “mono-elementalists” and eles who use a rotation “multi-elementalists”.
Now, being a mono-elementalist is actually very selfish. If you choose fire, you may be doing some damage but you’re denying your allies (and yourself) the benefits of healing and control provided by the other attunements. It’s also boring. And as you progress through the game and face greater difficulties, you’ll find that fire is not enough.
I understand why you feel like camping in fire. It’s daunting starting a new game and it’s especially daunting to learn a complicated profession like the elementalist. You’re telling yourself that all you need is fire because that’s all you can mentally handle at the moment. But as you grow in skill and confidence, you will find yourself naturally expanding your repertoire and soon you’ll wonder how you ever got by without all the attunements. Give it time.
And, lastly, this post belongs in the Elementalist section of the forums. Just so you know.
Dragons common weaknesses are their laziness, arrogence, annd stupidity.
All of them share these same weaknesses. If they just work harder and act before other races can react instead of just waiting in their liar doing nothing, Tyria would have fallen ages ago.
As for stupidity, the only reason Mordremoth lost is because for god-know-what reason, Mordremoth wants to CAPTURE Trehearne instead of just killing him like he did to Faleon, and allowed Trehearne to grant connection to Modremoth’s own mind, which would have been imposible if Mordremoth didn’t leave Trehearne alive.
Mordremoth’s real weakness was his love for Trehearne, and his desire to bond with the object of his affection.
I hear they’re getting M. Night Shamalayan to write the story for the expansion that’ll introduce Bubbles the oceanic dragon. I also hear that the dragon’s weakness will be water.
Likes fire…. has the name ‘sindyr’…. I see what you did there.. xD
So you aren’t in the camp that thinks you’ve already been sold a turkey?
“Feel the burn!” xD
Aren’t the elder dragons effectively a reference in the sense that their existence falls under the same overarching theme of “Everything else can go to hell as long as you reach your win condition.”?
I’m…. not sure what that means. I assumed they’re a reference to H.P.Lovecraft’s ‘Elder Gods’, sort of.
Enders game i am assuming, tho they could not use the water physics or animations
with it would not look right at all would be just swimming in the air .. def not the same as no gravity they could tweak it sure but the animations … they would have to make all new ones for every one for something that maybe no one would use . See underwater combatMaybe if there teams was bigger we could do fun stuff like this but as it as now i rather they use the time for a good s3 with tuns of armors so so that was left out of hot
Yes, Ender’s Game.
But we’re not talking realistic 3d zero-gravity. As in, being able to rotate the view or float upside down. That would be amazing but realistically, for a start, the underwater model without water will do just fine. Or, alternatively, keep the water. A battle room underwater would work fine too. Since they’re apparently working on more underwater combat anyway, they might have already planned something like this.
I love the idea.
Discovering new areas and taking in the scenery is one of my favorite aspects of this sort of game. Anet’s art department has demonstrated time and again that they have what it takes to make finding a new bit of scenery a reward in itself.
Ah, yes… did you kneel at Gwen’s grave for a while when you encountered it? I certainly did. Nostalgia and sentiment can be used so powerfully.
(If you didn’t play GW1, you can pretty much ignore the first two sentences.)
I don’t want to ignore them. I now know there was a person called Gwen (Stacey?) and they have a grave and you can kneel at it. I am intrigued.
It’s no secret gw2 includes references and …borrowings.. from various sci fi and fantasy shows and games, and we love that. Here’s one that hasn’t been done yet and I think it would work well in the gw2 world. I’ll leave it to you to guess the source.
Imagine, if you will, that there’s an Asura structure somewhere where they’ve been experimenting with zero gravity. For some or other reason, it’s been converted into an arena and now players get to fly around in it, battling each other and scoring by capturing ..uh.. gates. Maybe players would use some kind of weapon bundle when playing in this arena, possibly some kind of stun weapon or something. Kind of like a gentle pvp area.
There’s hardly any work required. We already have underwater physics. This would be the same, except there’s no water. This could be placed in Rata Novus somewhere. Maybe it’s a new chamber you discover. Or maybe it could work as a fractal. Or just a mini-game/adventure. Or maybe it should be another pvp map. Just some ideas.
Adventures? annoying mini games more like

These mini-games (you won’t catch me calling them actual adventures) would be functional within a separate and comical environment like the Super Adventure Box. Putting them in the main world as mastery requirements… doesn’t feel right. They’re festival-style mini-games with rewards.
Edit: like other people, I’m not against them being an optional way to obtain mastery points. It’s more that the presentation, the connotation of the word “adventure”, and the location that annoy me.
Agreed. An ‘adventure’ implies something different from what these deliver. There isn’t any shame in calling them mini-games, so why the misleading nomiker? Boggles the mind, it does.
Edit: To be fair, I’ve only tried a couple. May be there’s others which feel less pest control and more ..adventurous. Fingers crossed.

If there’s still any need to highlight how this change is not merely cosmetic, it was driven home to me recently. I was standing around in Fireheart Rise when I started getting fire damage. I couldn’t tell where it was coming from. I wasn’t standing in lava and nothing seemed to be hitting me.
Then I looked around and noticed an ooze some distance away that seemed excited. I realised it was throwing fireballs at me. Tiny, spark-sized fireballs.
I hadn’t noticed because there’s so many sparks flying around Fireheart Rise already.Enough already. Can we have our fireballs back?
haha! That had me cracking up!
Not that your imminent demise from an excited ooze amuses me… but your description did!
Thank you. Oozes are so excitable. And they’re always trying to reach out and hug you. It breaks my heart to fight them. They’d make great pets if they didn’t leave puddles on the floor.
Something curious: when there are complaints about creature mechanics or meta events there’s usually a couple of “L2P” responses, but when there are complaints about jumping puzzles, that doesn’t seem to happen. Not saying it should or shouldn’t. Just curious.
But we are forced to do this garbage (you might like it and call them fun, if so, other games are for you
You don’t like jumping? Hitman is the game for you. See how silly that argument sounds?
and how many times have you done them since you got gold?
I do a couple every day for fun. They also improve your reactions for the rest of the game.
Hmm…. I think the OP is suggesting slightly more peaceful areas for gliding as the HOT meta-events and challenging mobs can interfere with the gliding experience. If gliding were implemented in the central maps that would provide some perfect areas for enjoying the “pleasure of the glide”.
Do you have any idea of the difficulty to make this? I mean like, any idea at all? I don’t think you even grasp 1% of the difficulty. Come back when you’ve tried it yourself and you can give the devs some insight in how it should be done.
Do you have any idea of the difficulty of making an mmo? I don’t think you even grasp 1% of the difficulty. Come back when you’ve made your own mmo and can give the devs some insight…. etc
Sorry about that. I couldn’t resist. Your argument was just so silly. You see, we’re not morons here. We have some idea of the difficulties of things. But you’ll notice this thread involves a little thing called …imagination. That’s where we imagine what it might be like if it were possible. Some people find imagining enjoyable. You should try it.
I’ve noticed a phenomenon in Tyria which seems contrary to our understanding of physics. We’re used to sliding down hills being slower and safer than jumping off those same hills, but in Tyria sliding down a hill is almost certain death and jumping off it is safer. Is there a formula that can explain that?
Great idea! +100

Jumping puzzles themselves could have glider restrictions, but general locations really shouldn’t be unglideable. My character mastered glider use and can only use it in a rather dull jungle… on exactly four maps. So here’s hoping Anet eventually does include them elsewhere. It’s one thing to add long-term horizontal progression for characters – it’s another thing entirely if 400 hours of progression turns out to be ultimately of no use outside one or two maps.
This topic has come up a few times but that’s the first time I’ve seen that point made and it’s a very good one. +1

This sounds like some pretty advanced coding tbh. What if, instead, we just allow the top 10% of PvPers to log in to PvE with Legendary Mob scaled builds and attack other players? This would achieve what you’re asking for and be easier to implement…

Wait… you’re using both thumbs to jump..? How?!?
He’s probably being dramatic, but I do actually make my mouse hand sore jumping because I squeeze my mouse too tight from the stress. Like that 3 minute long adventure in Tarir, I’ve never been able to finish it at all and wind up with a sore wrist. No idea how people can even finish it, let alone get gold or silver. I’m not whining and want it removed or anything, I just am unable to do it.
Yeah, I know he was kidding.
Although….. pressing both sides of the spacebar at the same time would ensure it doesn’t wear out on one side…..
But I know what you mean – much as I like jumping puzzles, I don’t like being rushed on them with time limits.
I play GW2 on xbox360 controller… I use my thumbs so it’s not like you can’t play using your thumbs. =) So maybe he was serious?
Though to be honest I never have issues with my tumbs doing jumping puzzles using a controller.
Not to hog this thread with a debate on whether the poster was serious about his thumbs (lol) but you raise a good point there – I didn’t know you could use an xbox360 controller. Lesson learned.
It would be a disaster to make enemies more intelligent than an average player.
Not all enemies. That would be boring. Enemies need to be varied, and some should be smarter to give more challenge.
Think of HOT: was it a disaster to make maps more challenging than the average player is used to? There’s grumbling, to be sure, but there is also enjoyment.
When I was thinking about the OP’s idea, I had a thought which I didn’t voice in my original reply: there is a way to allow players to choose to battle a tougher monster without inflicting that monster on players who don’t want it.
There could be a corrupted statue somewhere. When a player interacts with it, it spawns a smart, sneaky monster somewhere who stalks the player. You never know when or where it’s going to strike, but you can be sure it will only strike the player who summoned it, like a curse.
Wait… you’re using both thumbs to jump..? How?!?
