OMG… that puts the mastery in mastery points in a whole new light.

What’s funny about those trials is that the Exhalted are testing the player to see if they’re worthy to enter the city and place the eggy on the special eggy platform – but are the Exhalted worthy to receive my egg? Let’s not forget who’s the egg bearer here. I decide what happens with my egg. I don’t see them doing any trials to prove to me that they’re the good guys. Sure, they’re shiny. But for all I know, the Exhalted are some cult of floaty shiny dudes and sooner or later there’s going to be a sacrificin’.

I personally would love to see is foci become melee weapons, and give them to Warrior and name that Elite Specialization Brawler.

Lol. That could work. There are foci that look like beer steins or wine bottles. Nothing says brawler like bashing your foe in the head with a beer stein.

This debacle and the mention of skins in other posts got me thinking about the possibility of skill skins. Imagine if you could apply a skin to your fireball..

No, please, no. They’ll gut our graphics and then charge us to get something decent back..

I had that thought as I was writing it.. but I think (or hope) that community pressure would protect against that kind of blatant money grubbing. It seems a shame not to mention ideas for fear of them being misused.

But what really got my goat recently was this: gliding is allowed in some jps.. but there’s an area in Krya (I forget the name) where there’s a slope with some harpies – that’s designated as a NO FLY zone. Why?!?! It’s a slope! You still have to walk up it to get to the harpies! There’s nothing there but some harpy eggs and stupid harpies. What in the name of Mordremoth were you trying to prevent players from doing there?!?!?!

And to add insult to injury, the harpies are allowed to fly – in a NO FLY zone.

Is the No fly zone you speak of in NW Hirathi Hinterland? If so, there’s a JP in that area (Goonies cave ship), which is why gliding is probably disabled outside of the cave.

That could very well be the one. Ah, that explains it. Although disabling the gliding outside the cave – well down the slope in fact – seems a tad excessive. But mystery solved. Thanks.

I’d like to offer a different perspective – if you’re going to be playing a lot of GW2 and you want legendaries eventually, it’s worth getting HOT upfront for this reason:

If you do your legendary masteries first and unlock the legendary collections, they will accumulate all their various components as you play the rest of the game – rather than unlocking them later and having to repeat things to get items you need.

For example, you’ll be harvesting some plant or fighting some creatures and BAM some flower or claw or other junk will pop up as being part of a collection.

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

That’s not true. There’s a hero point in Tangled Depths that seems only reachable by ley line gliding, and another in Auric Basin that requires Ley Line or Advanced gliding. Leaning gliding makes it easier to reach various points in the quest for Herta and also makes DS a lot easier. PACT commander’s last tiers give auto-looting and faster speed in cities, which are both very useful. Fractal’s last tier gives you access to singularities that help in fractals. It’s arguably tedious to get the last tiers but they’re far from worthless.

None of the hero points in the game require ley line gliding. There are ways around it such as leaps in DS for the spider one and gliding across from a height point in AB for the golem one.

I don’t know anything about the DS spider hp. My reference to DS was in terms of gliding between the islands in the final battle being easier (should have explained that better).

I’ve read about the jump tactic on the AB golem hp but so far haven’t been able to get it to work and gliding from the tree isn’t seemingly possible without at least advanced gliding. But I’ll take your word for it on this one and keep trying.

However – what about the Tangled Depths hp? It’s up high with no apparent way to jump onto it and there’s a strand of ley line energy going directly to it.

You do need advanced gliding for the AB one. I don’t know the exact location that they jump from but I have seen people glide across.

I can’t think of any HP’s in TD that require ley-line. Now there is a MP that requires it though. Can you be more specific to the one that you’re referring to?

I think it’s the one in the Nunoch lane. As someone else pointed out, there may be a non ley-line way to get there. I haven’t consulted any guides yet, was trying to figure it out myself. In any case, I was just trying to say the last and second last tiers of the masteries may not be mandatory, but they’re not useless either. That’s all. I think I’ve derailed the OP’s discussion enough. Back to your regular scheduled programming..

I’m okay with both portals and gliding being allowed. Some people just aren’t into jps and they’re welcome to get their achievements by taking shortcuts. I’m a purist and will jump through a jp the old fashioned way, but that’s just me – so in the name of the six gods PLEASE give me the ability to reassign the glider button! I really, really try but sometimes I hold the jump button a little too long and it still opens the glider and flies me off a jump I would have otherwise made. It’s so frustrating. You took my jump button away from me. Give it back.

Nuhoch Alchemy and Adrenal mushrooms. There’s 24 MP’s you could ignore.

To be clear, I wasn’t arguing for all last tiers to be useful. I was just disagreeing with the argument that none of them are useful, and listed those that I found helpful. I haven’t unlocked arenal mushrooms yet but they sounded helpful – can you elaborate on why you think they’re not?

The wiki states that “in addition to refreshing all skill cooldowns, consuming Adrenal Mushrooms also fills the Warrior adrenaline bar.” and “Using a summoning skill when summons are already up does not despawn the first set of summons.”

These sound like very useful effects. As an ele, I often use summoned elementals to distract critters and if this doubles my number of summons, it sounds like a good thing.

It’s useful if you have the 12 mp’s to get it. If you can’t or wont get enough points, you can skip that one.

Ah, okay. Thx for the clarification.

The dodge bar needs a cd timer like our skills can have.

I’ve made too many dodge attempts that did not work because it looked like it was full, but it wasn’t q__q

The bar actually flashes when it reaches 50/100%. Though, if you’re dodging that much…. maybe something else? I dunno xD

It’s hard to catch that flash if your eyes are busy scanning the battlefield. I like the idea further up about using colors to indicate when its ready, but maybe something more distinct than red/darker red like grey for charging and red for ready.

This debacle and the mention of skins in other posts got me thinking about the possibility of skill skins. Imagine if you could apply a skin to your fireball to make it blue, or to dribble sparks as it flew, or maybe one skin could have a little quaggan riding it and waving his cowboy hat ala Doctor Strangelove. The skins wouldn’t be anything outrageous so that the skills are still recognisable for what they are, just playful tweaks to make skills more customised. Imagine a skin for the phoenix that turns it into a “dark” phoenix. Or a skin for dragon’s tooth that turns it into an anvil, or a grand piano.

I’m not sure if I understand you correctly, but I think you’re talking about the fact that in action cam mode you have to be pointed almost directly at a target in order for some skills to hit it, even if you have the target selected. I’m frustrated by this too. I’m not against your idea but I’d like it for a start if skills would just fire on a selected target no matter which way you’re facing.

Scepter is pretty meh. You can also try Dagger/Something with a Fresh Air build, though that’s a lot harder due to melee.

To offer another pov, I know the general sentiment towards sceptre but it’s still my preferred weapon, with the warhorn offhand. It just… works for me. More distance than dagger, more speed than staff and the damage is sufficient. I’m able to explore the jungle solo on my almost-glass-cannon tempest. Each to his own.

XP not carried over to next line in mastery?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

I’ve also been caught out on this when I started out. In fact, I was hit with it again recently when trying to finish my last bit of masteries in central tyria. I had the second to last tier of something full of xp but not the points to unlock it. And there were no other masteries to put the xp into. So a lot of xp went to waste until I got the points and only then did the last tier start to fill with xp.

Now, seriously. Would it have been so awful if the last tier had continued to fill with xp while I worked on the points for the second to last tier? I wouldn’t have been able to use the second to last tier until it was unlocked anyway. I’d still be doing the “depth” and “breadth” of content. It seems like the only reason for this design is to slow a player down and make the game seem like it’s lasting longer.

Then again, maybe it’s just another oversight like the fact that xp goes to waste when all masteries are done. Maybe…

A separate key ring accessible in a similar manner to the wallet would be amazing, however keys could also simply be added to the account wallet (though that list is already a little long).

Speaking of the wallet, there’s plenty of space at the bottom where the gold/silver/copper and local currency numbers are shown. It should utilise all the space in that bottom area to show as many currencies as possible, in order of their number in your wallet, so you wouldn’t have to open the wallet as much. It would all be visible in your inventory view. Less clicking.

[ ] Enable Full Skill Animation for my own Character only

Why not? We could turn on Hi-Rest textures for Charactermodels. So why not have the choice to opt in or out of the Visual Clutter on our side, which doesn’t influence others.

Best from two worlds….less Clutter for the one’s who need it, less ressources used (in principal)

If my System can stomach it then let me enable it.

The new Animations are Crap and seriously hamper my enjoyment of the game. Because visuals matter!

I’m still hoping for a slider so I can set my visuals to …… OVERKILL!

Really annoying to get the fancy to go on a map (answering taxi LFG), with a character that doesn’t have the currency.

….or entering your home instance to farm the Found Bandit Chest, amongst other things, only to discover that it needs a bandit key and the alt you’re using doesn’t have any.

(And why does the Found Bandit Chest need a key anyway? It’s found! I took the time to complete it’s collection quest. It’s mine, tarnations! Who’s coming into my instance and locking the darn thing?!?!)

It’s not the same Bandit Chest.

Everyday someone goes out to the Silverwastes and combs the desert for a Lost Bandit Chests and delivers them to some cities. It’s become “found”.

Considering this person also has to transport trees and fresh herbs and lumps of ore and crystal and candy and gifts and random scraps of cloth and chests of magic items and repair the sprocket generators everyday and now you want them to unlock the Bandit Chests, too? Why does nobody think of the NPCs?

OMG. You’re right! I completely overlooked the good people who work behind the scenes to make things happen. I’m so sorry, delivery guy(s). I swear I’ll never complain about opening my bandit chest ever again. I’ll even leave some milk and cookies under my wintersday tree for you.

Golem MKII safe spot exploit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zoltar MacRoth.7146

Zoltar MacRoth.7146

On one hand I understand why game developers don’t want players getting easy kills on mobs by standing somewhere the mob can’t reach.

On the other hand that’s what ranged weapons are all about. It’s like screaming a fight is unfair when you give one guy a knife and another guy a gun, if you want a fair fight, give them both the same weapon.

Maybe it’s just the limitations of MMO AIs, but ideally when a mob gets attacked by a player from an unreachable location, they should respond by switching to ranged weapons or running away if they don’t have a ranged weapon. They shouldn’t just go invulnerable and the terrain shouldn’t be nerfed, that’s not fixing a problem, that’s simply accommodating it (because the real problem isn’t players exploiting terrain, the problem is mob AI is dumb).

Similarly if the Mk. II Golem is being attacked from atop the control tower, it should smash the tower (accompanied by a surprised yell from the Inquest inside), but if nobody’s there it shouldn’t. It would still be scripted, but at least it’ll feel like we’re fighting a mob and not an overly enthusiastic wall.

THIS ^

when a mob gets attacked by a player from an unreachable location, they should respond by switching to ranged weapons or running away if they don’t have a ranged weapon. They shouldn’t just go invulnerable

Also, when flying mobs like wyverns or bats take off they become invulnerable, but ground-based mobs like snipers can still shoot players out of the air. A bit of a double-standard there, one might think.

The other benefit of having a separate key for opening the glider is that it can be triggered faster. I like to do a batman dive – that is, fall from a great height and only open the glider at the last moment to land safely. It’s tricky if you have to hold your jump key to do it. But with a single keypress glider opening you could pull off a really impressive landing.

The longer the jump, the longer I hold down the space key. I know it’s wrong, but it’s ingrained in my reflexes as I have spent so much time jumping without a glider. I agree some kind of disable or change in behavior is needed.

It’s not wrong. It’s the way it works in other games. Like you, it’s ingrained in my reflexes too from a childhood of games where the length of the jump was determined by how long you held down the jump key.

Holding it down didn’t hurt before HOT. Now it does. I’m learning to tap but frankly why not just allow binding the glide key to something else? Then we can hold the key as long as we like and the tappers can tap, tap, tap, tap, tap…

I was hoping that would be a feature of the Salvage-o-Matics when they were introduced but unfortunately that was not the case.

Agreed. I still play Angband (showing my age possibly) and it had the most comprehensive item processing menu I’ve ever seen. For every type of item you could decide if you wanted to keep it or delete it. Something similar for sigils/runes would be awesome but it would take a bit of work.

No! Our maps are not instances like GW was (or Zelda or Diablo II). You can’t have a hard mode as we are all in the same maps together.

Without making any comment on the OP’s idea itself, I think you’ve misunderstood him. He’s not suggesting hard mode for all. He gives the examples of a hard-mode player having their stats nerfed or being susceptible to perma-death. It’s a strictly personal effect, which could be accomplished by a condition on the hard-mode player, not unlike the Agony in the Fractals.

Who hates this game now because of HoT?

HoT is just far too group oriented.

It is group-oriented ..but, these days, I don’t feel like it’s too far anymore.

The jungle didn’t appeal to me when it first came out. It was hard, especially for a solo explorer, and there were many other things to play with that had greater appeal: Halloween, the tempest spec on my ele with its warhorn and overloads…
I popped into the jungle occasionally since then to remind myself of what it was like, and didn’t stay long. It was still a strain.

But last week I got back into it and I’m finding myself spending most of my time there. And ..surviving, even on my glass cannon tempest. I think what helped me was separating the various aspects of HOT – practicing the tempest and warhorn in central Tyria which I was already familiar with allowed me to get the hang of them without the distraction of the jungle.

I still explore solo most of the time as I work on completing the various achievements (just got my Herta!!) Sometimes I come across a group and join them for a bit, then run off in my own direction. I’ve had my gripes but with time and practice I think there’s nothing about HOT that bothers me much anymore. It encourages group play but it still supports single play. Anyway, that’s just my two coppers.
