Maybe it’s my insanity talking but I wonder if we could buy a response on the gem store?
Buy a response? KITTEN that kitten.
heh, Zoltar was kidding ( I feel it was said in jest and more just desperate plea for a response to this thread), but the filter on this forum does illicit some funny thoughts on the response (meant to lighten things up!):
Thank you for the kind words, Siobhan. Yes, it was a little black humour and a means to keep the thread visible. But hey, no need for that anymore, it seems. Coming soon: great balls of fire!
I’d like a title that says “Will dance for coins.” or “Will dance naked for gold coins.”
Combat movement suppression is outdated. This game is very cc heavy and it’s completely unnecessary to have this artificial slowing mechanic.
lol. soft cc is COMPLETELY necessary. what makes you think it isnt?
I think we’re talking about the artificial slow-down that happens when an enemy so much as looks at you.. before we even get to the soft cc.
What is the purpose behind this mechanic? I have found pretty much no reason, other than to create frustration for the player. We have Cripple, Immobilize, Stun, Chill, and other movement impaired mechanics that easily provide that combat slow that is plenty as is.
So why this mechanic?

Anet aren’t going to fix this because they’re the biggest culprit. How many times have you gone up to a crafting station or bank and found some static or randomly wandering npc getting in the way? How long have we been listening to the insane violets lady? Or the SW guy talking about mordremoth attacking the pale tree? They want to drive us mad around the free service centres so we’ll be forced to buy personal banking golems and merchants. It’s a conspiracy I tell you.
XD
In something like WoW or any other MMO what happens when you play beyond level cap? Does all that XP you get goes somewhere, is there some minor reward drop? Pretty sure in those other games you get nada.
And I’m pretty sure you just lost all credibility there. Time and again, it’s been hammered home on these forums that GW2 isn’t trying to be like WoW. It’s going it’s own way. Hey, you know what else happens in WoW? Mounts. (Jaws theme music suddenly plays)
The game simply outgrew the need for the post 80 leveling skill point reward.
What does that even mean? Are we playing the game or is the game playing us? Again, this game is about progression. There was progression. They broke it. Why are you against this? Why is this so hard to understand? This is the equivalent of the visual nerf thread and you’re basically arguing that anet was right in nerfing auras and fireballs because we were too “entitled” to have the original graphics.
Removing a form of loot that isn’t needed in the same quantities anymore is suggesting the game is adopting WoW design. Wow (no pun intended) that’s a creative read of what I said. My point was you made it sound like ANet was bucking convention again by not giving you stuff past level cap.
Why should there be progression once you’ve tapped out all available masteries? Skill points wasn’t progression but simply another character bound currency. Once skill points were split between character bound hero points and account bound spirit shards, we didn’t need a farmable source of hero points anymore since we got all we needed leveling to 80 and if we want more, that’s the purpose of hero challenges. As for skill shards, they are farmable via events, you want more, do more events that can drop them.
The issue I’m seeing is the OP and others have caught up with available progression. Here it’s all the masteries instead of another 10 levels like other MMOs. So you now tread water or level another character. Or complete all the collections, unlock every mastery point, craft every precursor, prep for 2nd season PvP leagues, bother learning all the secret ways on the desert borderland maps for the day WvW becomes fun again.
And if none of that sounds fun to you then how does earning a free skill shard change that?
You… seem fixated on the shards. What if we got a haiku each time we finished the xp bar? Would that be okay?

Or maybe that’s a creative read of my creative read of your creative writing. Anyway, the point is it doesn’t matter what other mmos are doing. I personally think this was just overlooked because they were so busy and one day it’ll be addressed.
Why should there be progression once you’ve tapped out all available masteries?
Ask yourself, why did we get masteries in the first place? Why do we need progression once you’ve tapped level 80?

It’s amazing, isn’kitten You’d think anyone testing this would have noticed.. >.>
Or maybe the testers are so high on caffeine they literally couldn’t sit still for 10 seconds.
Some new masteries to learn and – this part is a pipe-dream – being able to level them up by doing something related to what they are, rather than just random xp and arbitrary mastery points.
Will settle for just some new masteries.
Now, personally I have no problem with the idea of HoT dailies at first glance, but I do worry that it will add to “bloat”. It will take us up to four tabs of dailies, five if there’s a festival going on. And the next expansion will take us to 5/6, and so on. Maybe it would be best to make an “Expansion Daily” tab instead of a “HoT Daily” tab. Put stuff in there that’s pretty generic, and can be done in most expansion zones. Then, as more expansions are added, those dailies remain valid for any and all expansions.
I believe in future thinking as much as anyone.. but sometimes one can think a little too far ahead. For all we know, there may never be another expansion. (There, I said it.)
Let’s just have the darned HOT tab and enjoy it for now. If another expansion does come along, let’s re-evaluate then. Maybe merge, maybe not.
Also, bloat is so subjective. They’re just tabs at the top of that screen. They take up little real estate. I see the PVP and WvW tabs and I don’t bother with them. To me, they might as well be bloat alongside my PVE tab. What does it matter if there’s more tabs? Players will just ignore the ones they don’t want.
Maybe it’s my insanity talking but I wonder if we could buy a response on the gem store?

Sylvari should preferably wear leaves
That’s racist. You probably think we’re all some kind of tree-loving hippies, don’t you? Living in our tree-houses, communing with nature, eating mushrooms and having orgies on the grass?
Well.. yeah, we do all that but we’re also into other stuff like… adventuring and stuff. And it gets cold in some climates. Leaves just don’t cut it everywhere you go. Sometimes we have to wear regular clothes like the rest of you. In fact, we’re just like the rest of you. If you prick us do we not bleed ….sap?
I resent your discrimination against my people. We shall not be treated like second-class citizens! We shall rise up and… oh, wait. We already did that.
Never mind.
I can’t wait until two years from now where they inroduce a harvesting tool that just harvests all the nodes on a map with two clicks all at once. Then and only then will your request be granted.
Two clicks!?!? Bah.. I want it to harvest all the nodes automatically as soon as I enter the map. And deposit them to my mat vault.
The infinite tools don’t have a level limit on them that I am aware of.
They don’t? Do you mean even a level 1 toon can use one of them? That would be cool. And maybe the shared tool idea could work.
For players that have maxed out the Central Tyria mastery line (which is very easy for players that have been playing the core game for a while + the ability to gain XP in so many areas, including Fractals and Dungeons etc.), there has come a point where XP gain is “wasted”, as it does not progress any “advancement bar”.
Is there any fix in the works, that will at least give us karma and / or spirit shards (or something else) for gaining XP in the core game again? Seeing all the XP wasted is not encouraging at all.
So? Grats you’ve maxed out your character’s progression based on XP and your Account’s mastery tracks. You won!
Why do we need currency that’s tied to completing dailies to have a 2nd source that could be exploited to create a massive amount of it?
Why do we have to keep having this argument? And why the strawman? All we want is for the extra xp to mean something, as it used to, as it should in a game about progression. It doesn’t have to be currency. It could be a BL ticket scrap. It could be a writ of xp for levelling another toon. It could be a bottle of Nana Zoija’s Patent Toe Jam. And here’s the best part: it doesn’t hurt you at all! You’re accumulating xp like the rest of us, but when your xp bar is full and you get your reward, you’re welcome to delete it so that, you know, you don’t exploit it to create a massive amount of it or whatever.
I was contemplating the concept of having a shared harvesting instrument slot which would allow you to share a pick, axe or sickle between characters – of course, you could buy up to 3 slots – but I realised the problem is not all your toons may be able to use the instrument in there. Still… it was a tantalising idea.
Based on some experiences going for guild halls, it seems like having a rev on the team helps a lot. And of course, having as much cc as possible.
Agreed. Some of the bag icons don’t even look like bags. And some things that aren’t bags look like bags.
And another problem that plagues all kinds of icons, not just bags, is that the icon is designed with some light-coloured detail in the top-right corner, where the quantity number is, making it difficult to tell how many you have. That powder that summons fire elementals is like that.
Maybe you are a veteran player with map complession on most characters
I had 50% on 2, 2 had 100%, and the rest were at “just get this thing to level 80 so I can WvW” range. Whatever that was, like 20% or something.
I don’t really understand your anger towards me. I explained how I did it and how it was incredibly easy for anyone. You can do it too. Hell, if you want I’ll run you through the 200 points or whatever it is to max your elite from scratch, but only on one of your characters. It takes very little effort even with 0% HoT map completion on a character. In fact as I progressed through the characters I got a path down, hitting the easiest HCs in a single line to progress through the maps.
Hi, would you be willing by any chance to make a list of those somewhere? I think it would be very useful to learning players. I’m just starting down that road of getting elites and it would help me greatly to have an efficient path to progress through the maps.
I don’t think this is a good idea … you want full maps for the duration of the meta. Unless the daily is “Complete the meta event”, it will be problematic.
And what would prevent those people from participating in the meta? It’s not like doing dailies takes a lot of time.
That’s exactly my point … they will do only what they need to complete the daily, then bail out. Do you think that’s good for a map trying to complete the meta? I don’t think it is.
Sure there are already people in the map not doing meta … with dailies, you will have even more.
And you’ll also have people coming into the jungle who would not have otherwise, discovering the metas and staying to help, especially if the dailies include event completers as central does.
Just a quick list of possible masteries that Anet could add to imprve this game:
- Crafting Mastery Line
To unlock Jewelry/Chef 500…
I really think this should be part of the standard crafting experience. All crafts should go up to the same level. And you shouldn’t need masteries to get some of them there.
- Gathering Crafting Line
To improve the exp you get from gathering, to improve the amount of materials you gain per gathering, to improve the amount of gatherings you can do, before the node is empty for you, to improve the chance to get rarer stuff from nodes, to unlock new materials to gain from gatherign nodes you can get only, once you improved your gatherign mastery, so masteried-tied new material tiers for example for making legendary accessoires
A gathering mastery has been discussed at length in other posts and, without discounting all your suggestions, other good ideas brought up included: being able to detect nodes easier on the map (some kind of node-radar) and being able to tell on the map exactly what kind of node it is; e.g. if it’s mirthril or ori.
I don’t think this is a good idea … you want full maps for the duration of the meta. Unless the daily is “Complete the meta event”, it will be problematic.
And what would prevent those people from participating in the meta? It’s not like doing dailies takes a lot of time.
To add to Astralporing’s excellent responses, I want to add to this point: why the assumption that all players in a map are already participating in a meta? There is always some proportion of players in any map who are farming, standing around for a raid, looking for mastery points, map completing.
I really don’t get the flood of negativity to this. Every day I see the three (sometimes four) tabs: PVE, PVP, WvW. And I only do the PVE dailies.
Am I forced to do PVP/WvW? No.
Do I feel disadvantaged? No.
Do I feel discriminated against because I’m crap at pvp? No.
Will it stop me from going to core Tyria? No. I’ll just have more PVE dailies to do, which is something I enjoy.
The HOT maps can be punishing. Why not have an additional incentive to visit them? With all the fuss over this you’d think the OP was suggesting that we should have mounts and that there should be dailies involving riding those mounts.
There is no fix needed.
If you want to make it so that people don’t get any more “xp” after completing the mastery that would be kinda ok but the dev resources should go soemwhere else preferably.
We all have different preferences as to where dev resources should go. You’re welcome to voice your opinion that dev resources should go elsewhere but the fact remains that a fix is needed here. This is supposed to be a game of progression, yet anet have created a situation where progression just stops dead. We may not agree where on the list of priorities this falls, but it does need to be on the list.
I don’t see how it’s wasted. XP is something you get regardless of what you are doing.
Remember how you didn’t gain XP in the labyrinth last Halloween? Lets hope it’s fixed this year, or it will be really quite this year.
You seem to miss my point.
After you have maxed out the Central Tyria mastery lines, the XP gain displayed on your screen does nothing. It does not progress any mastery line or level gain on a Lvl 80. Before HoT we got a spirit shard for reaching a new level threshold. Now we get nothing for the XP gain. That’s why I want some small reward re-introduced to the game we have had for three years already. XP has always been something useful – now its not.PS: On the Labyrinth. It was a very good idea NOT to give us XP in the Laby because it was far to easy to gain XP there. It should not have been a “power level tool” in the first place, IMO.
No I see your point, you you missed mine. XP was changed at 80. Having it then revert back will not be easy. If it was, I’m sure ANet would have ad the system in place ready. In fairness to ANet when something is easy to implement they tend to do it quick smart.
No, I really think you missed his point. Yes, the previous xp bar becomes the mastery xp bar after 80, but when all your masteries are full any further xp goes to waste. This topic has been discussed many times on these forums and the majority of people agree that this is a waste. No one is asking for it to be reverted. We’re just asking that when your masteries are full you get something for your effort. It could be skill shards, it could be karma, it could even be a host of other wonderful things that some very clever people in these forums have suggested.
This debacle and the mention of skins in other posts got me thinking about the possibility of skill skins. Imagine if you could apply a skin to your fireball..
No, please, no. They’ll gut our graphics and then charge us to get something decent back..
I had that thought as I was writing it.. but I think (or hope) that community pressure would protect against that kind of blatant money grubbing. It seems a shame not to mention ideas for fear of them being misused.
Community pressure? This thread has 900 posts in it divided in 18 pages, if this ain’t community pressure I don’t know what is, and yet there is absolutely no response from Anet.
It is community pressure but I think now it’s a case of force without leverage. There’s a lot of force being applied but where it’s applied isn’t having much effect, as opposed to that recent example with the Compact option where a much lesser force (one player’s opinion) was inadvertently applied to exactly the right spot to achieve an effect, which was essentially due to the medium it happened in.
This thread is about some visual nerfs that, while annoying, still only affect a subset of the player base and the effect is within some realm of “acceptable damage” to anet. By comparison, a wholesale gutting of graphics and making players buy them back would (just my opinion) affect sufficiently more players and cause enough uproar to exceed the level of acceptability. But hopefully we’ll never be in a situation to test that theory.
Hi, the lighting in the first chamber on the way to Vexa’s lab, where you fight all the experiments, has in the past weeks changed from its usual subdued state to a glaring white. At first I thought it might be intentional, but everything just looks wrong and the effect is painful on the eyes. Can someone have a glance at it and possibly change it back to the way it was?
This is such a cool idea. I love the Girl Scout cookie idea. It would make the game feel so much more alive.
I think the content wouldn’t feel “recycled” if done right. I think there should be 0 achievements tied to this personally. But one or two would be okay. The key to not making this feel recycled is making the event feel totally “non mandatory”. Of course all events aren’t mandatory, but any event with achievement points tied to it make people feel like they need to do them. This suggestion (I believe) is more of adding to the “atmosphere” rather than actual content.
To expand on the Girl Scout cookie idea. If there are no achievements tied to it they will have to sell something that is at least interesting, if not useful. Maybe a cookie that works like a tonic or like current heart npcs that sell items that change character color/size. I’m trying to think of some more clever effects that relate to cookies but they aren’t coming to me. All I can think of is thin mints and turning green/thin lol.
But seriously this would add character to the game. I get tired of running around LA for months and hearing the same Npcs saying the same things over and over. If there were events like this in between it would help the word feel more alive.
Aww, I like achievements. I’d love it if there were some (sensible) achievements like ‘eat 50 girl scout cookies’. But after the whole 10,000 drinks debacle… :/
Come to think of it, there are cultural armour merchants in the world who won’t sell you something if you’re not of that particular culture. What if I’m buying it for a friend, or another toon? Why can’t I just buy the thing and put the skin in my bank, or the wardrobe. Why the weird racial gating?
Nice. Little events that reuse existing assets as much as possible, especially old or rarely seen assets. Maybe that Charr festival could have a raffle for some BL tickets or at least ticket scraps. It could also be an opportunity to spread little bits of lore that we wouldn’t otherwise hear about. It would bring more vibrancy to the world. Maybe there could be a beach party in LA, or a flower festival where the violets lady gets some backstory instead of being a one-dimensional kook that hands around the bank.
Hi,
It’s been suggested before that we need more control of the UI – specifically the top-right area where various notifications appear. People have rightly argued for the option to hide notifications (like ESL/PVP/Personal story) if they’re of no interest to a player. I agree. It’s been said that the screen is cluttered – which can sound like there’s too much information on screen, but I think it’s more than that. I think the problem is that it’s the wrong kind of information. There’s information we don’t want (like ESL) forced on us, but we have to choice to add information we do want.
For example, the dailies panel currently shows the top five(?) achievements closest to completion that you have marked as ‘watched’. I personally would like to see the top twenty, or even take up as much of the right hand side of the screen as it can, amongst whatever other ui panels I have there. When I’m in achievement hunting/explorer mode, that’s the kind of info I like to see. It doesn’t feel cluttered when it’s useful. Of course, players who don’t want to see that would be able to turn if off. Flexibility for all.
Another UI I’d like to see is event timers in game, rather than a separate website I have to alt-tab to. I’d like a screen which shows all the events (much like the website does) and allows you to select events to display in a panel at the right side of the screen, below the achievements panel. A player could then tell at a glance what’s coming up next without having to find a safe place to park and break out of the game to check the website. And if the UI could also provide the closest WP to the event that would be fantastic. All of this would help us play the game, instead of playing the interface, as that old chestnut goes. Less administration, more participation.
Just my 2 coppers.
If you type “GW2 HoT timer” into Google you’ll get the timers for the events, log in when the event you want is up.
Its just like World Bosses from Core Tyria.
It’s great that we now have an official timers page but when can we expect it to be built into the game, so we don’t have to alt-tab out of the game to view it? The TP is apparently a website, so why not have some equivalent window for event timers we can watch in game? That leads me to another idea… but I’ll raise a new topic for that instead of cluttering this one.
(someone decided to put a load of bandits in a jumping puzzle.)
Don’t know if you mean NSS but that’s exactly the problem I have with that jp. I love the architecture, but the constant slowdowns from the aeroblades kitten me off no end. You even get put in combat if you’re hiding behind a rock and somebody nearby gets into combat with them, as I found out once. I love jumping but something about being artificially slowed just interrupts my enjoyment of it all.
Frankly, I’m against the whole combat slow-down mechanic, at least in pve. You’re welcome to it in pvp if you want it. I don’t play pvp much. But it just frustrates in pve. I’ve heard all kinds of arguments for it, such as it making combat more manageable for the player (what does that even mean? It’s certainly more tedious and don’t we want faster/harder combat anyway?) or that it forces the player to deal with the situation (as if we can’t blink/dodge/fly/mist form/stealth/distract with minions already). It’s just an artificial immersion breaking mechanic. If we get crippled or chilled, it makes perfect sense to be slowed down. But forcing us to run through molasses as soon as some critter looks at us? May Grenth eat your soul.
Ugh. I’m ranting. That slow-down has been bugging me since I started playing. Gonna stop now. Apologies.</rant>

Should this be merged with the main thread? Or maybe just moved to the main forum now that gliding is everywhere?

EDIT: Looks like my comments from two separate glider threads have been merged into this one, hence the duplicate merging suggestion.

Dude, there’s a thread for this already on the first page!

After 5 years, they should be made available to buy for something like 200 to 400 gems each directly from the wardrobe based on their demand. The cheapest would be the ones less people bought, the most expensive would be the ones more people bought.
You just click the icon in the wardrobe, pay the gem price, get the skin. Ding.
Why 5 years? So people get to enjoy exclusivity for that time. 5 years is more than enough to show off a pretty skin. After that, it’s time to switch to the next model if you want to show off something, let the rest of the kids enjoy them too without having to grind keys or spend fortunes in freaking RNG key or depend on people selling them in the trading post.
exclusiveness and rareness should last FOREVER, re releasing old items is the main reason this game has not had good player retention, its impossible for me to be motivated when all i have acheived is now on sale again for some new player
You have the glory of being there first.
not enough, you will just have to content yourself with never having certain items, thats how an mmo is supposed to be.
The biggest irony is how you desire to stand out… yet you borrow a nomiker from a computer game character instead of inventing your own. Time to kick kitten and chew gum?

The issue above stopped yesterday a couple of hours after I reported it here (not sure exactly when) but it has reappeared about an hour ago. :/
I would love to see a gem store that would convert old backpack items into gliders where it made sense. Examples would be the holographic dragon wings, tequatl wings, and the molten jetpack.
I would also love to see a golem style glider that deploys a small golem that helicopters you down to the ground like Clank from Ratchet and Clank.
Additionally you can have profession specific gliders, where the character uses abilities based off their profession to slow their fall.
- Elementalists would hold their hands out and blast fire
Can I make an addendum to your idea? Rather than just blast fire as an ele, you would blast whatever attunement you had active. For example, in air you’d have electricity blasting out of your hands and that would be just …. infamous.
Hallo, Sorry my english is not so good !

Why not use the translator tool yourself and give us the translation? It’s easier for one person to do once than to make everybody else do it for you. I’m so lazy I can’t even be bothered translating your post and that’s sad because you might have something good to offer.
It isn’t the rarity that makes BL skins attractive. They’re just far more artistic than anything in core. But they are far too difficult to get. After 11 months I finally accumulated enough scraps for one measly ticket. That’s enough to get a weapon from one weaponset in BL – all the other weaponsets in there require two tickets, and there’s so many fantastic designs in there! It’s frustrating that it’s so hard to get them, even if you had the RL money to throw at it.
I think this will sort itself out in the long term. The current elite specs are arguably better than their base classes which is why they’re so ubiquitous atm. But eventually there will be multiple elite specs for each class and, as long as these are all equivalent with each other, we’ll start seeing a greater variety in the specs used.
the hidden tidal wave one
Which is neither hidden nor an ACTUAL achievement anymore.
ikr. by the time I got it…it was too late to get it.
It has been suggested before but the forum engine makes it hard to find things so there’s no harm in suggesting it again.
+1
Would be awesome for guild missions/bounties, a show of comraderie and easier to spot your own guildies in a crowd.
I struggled to find a vortex when I was trying for this achievement. Now that’s I’ve got it, I try to stay out of vortices and still they drag me down every time. The game has a sense of irony….or mischief.
I want his face.
