Hopefully that will be the end of the power increase.

Based on difficulty these should be worth 100pts each, not just a measly 50.

Lol, if we compare the HoM points difficulty to other achievements in GW2, it’s more like 500 each

And I’ve beaten Ghost and Goblins on the NES without any continue cheats which is way harder. I should get 5000 achievement points in GW2 for that.. oh wait.. It’s not the same game!

sorry, welcome to 2013. Games are no longer independant like they used to be.

I’d say >50% of the games released in the past 5 years have rewards, achievements, and unlocks associated with playing other games.

This thread is essentially a bunch of old people yelling: “get off my lawn you pesky kids, back in my day we didn’t have lawns!”

Im actually really dissapointed that every rank gets the same reward… i mean i get it thakittens just for fun but they just COMPLETELY annihilated the purpose of winning. winners should atleast get a little extra of something imo.

You don’t. The higher you place, the more quartz crystals you get. I was noticing this yesterday.

No longer true. The patch tonight apparently removed the Quartz crystals from Sanctum Sprint entirely. How are we even to reliably get 25 per day now? Mining at the Bazaar yields about half of that, and the rest? (Finding kites is not reliable, considering how buggy they are and difficult to even find one that works.)

You can buy supply boxes from the vendors
You can buy them directly from the Tp
You can open kite boxes that are scattered throughout the world
You can mine your home instance node

I’ve gotten about 500 crystals so far, they are pretty easy to get.

edit also if you enter a race mid-way it says in GIANT letters on the top of your screen that since you entered a race in progress it will be considered a practice race and you will not be rewarded a chest until the next race starts.

Basically they are being forced to pump out content faster than they can solve issues so we get a major hit in quality as compared to the original armors.

They simply didn’t have the time to make 3 different dyeable versions so they just made it all the same to make their deadline. Just one of the many reasons we need to slow down the content flow, or opt for expansions instead.

The devs can’t fix jealousy. You are however more than welcome to play GW1 and earn the rewards like everyone else.

we have… 294g… 230g…205g…620g…

100g for a permanent unlimited use item is actually very cheap in comparison to the others.

Things to remember:
1. You ONLY need the kits for facing other players. You can play the NPC’s for free at any time.
2. You can purchase much cheaper kits if you can’t afford the unlimited one. It is a luxury item, you can buy more then you will ever be able to reasonably use for a much cheaper price.

Anything you do still counts towards the achievements, however you won’t get a chest for that race.

Think of it as a warm up period before your actual race. In reality it is just filling up arenas, otherwise you’d be sitting at the starting line for 3-4 minutes waiting for enough players to join to have a full race. Either way you will be waiting the same amount of time, this way they let you work on achievements, practice your skills and warm up instead of just standing there.

When you get to a reward level with an item skin you will be allowed to pick which skin you want to unlock. The gold, laurels, and account bonuses are set for each reward tier, you do not get to choose those.

If you buy a car and a month later the price drops do you go back to the dealership and demand a refund for the difference?
If you buy a video game and a week later the price drops do you go and demand the difference?
if a company offers a new bonus for signing up for its service when you are already a member do you demand they give you the sign up bonus even though you are already signed up?

This is no different.

Negatives:
1. Content is removed, no permanent additions (Happened in the past we don’t know how content will be addressed in the future) NON ISSUE
2. Content lacks a cohesive story in order to allow people to jump in at any time (as per design so new players will not fill left out or lose) NON ISSUE
3. Rewards are rushed, undyeable, not varied between armor types, recycled skins, clipping issues. (tons of new armor, weapons skins and other rewards due tomorrow) NON ISSUE
4. New “maps” are rushed and subpar, lacking poi’s, WPs, vistas, SP’s and hearts. Maps are either removed after the event and if they do remain they are disjointed and not connected to other maps thus ending up ghost towns. (what the heck are you talking about. Only one new map was South Sun Cove)
5. No new races, classes, skills, instead we get lots of expensive RNG boxes to continue funding the game. (content like this should never be expected in the first year of ANY MMO) once again NON ISSUE

Are you even playing this game or just trying to start something. Your statements are not factual and full of wholes. Please research before you post are at least play the game.

Sorry I don’t live on promises and hopes. They’d had 10 months to do it. What you see is what you get. I’m sure they’ll add giant rainbow unicorn mounts that give out buckets of gold in the future as well, but I am just dealing with that they actually deliver on.

The design “works” because they remove the content. If we had an expansion you wouldn’t need to design work arounds for “jumping in” because all the content would ALWAYS BE THERE, so new and old players alike could always experience everything the game has to offer.

tons of new armor and weapons… are any of those new armors dyeable? are any of those new armors varied between gender and species and class? are those armors free of clipping issues? The point is not quantity, we are getting plenty of quantity, the problem is that QUALITY is suffering. (the answer to all those questions is NO btw, and i’d be willing to bet all my gold that there will be clipping issues with it as well)

Exactly Southsun… the most deserted, least visited, unaccessible zone in the game… thank you for making my point. We will be getting another “zone” tomorrow, I will eat my hat if it contains anything other then about 2 WP’s and 3 poi’s (same as southsun).

Ok I do agree that in the first year of an MMO new races classes and skills are not a reasonable addition. But the point stands that they haven’t even announced anything like that yet. I suppose they could just release it one day, but every MMO i’ve ever seen makes a big deal about that sort of thing and hypes it up for 6-8 months in advance.

But yes it is clearly me that is uninformed.

I don’t remember my source but your number 5 is totally 100% false. One of the lead designers just said they were 100% fine with releasing new professions and races through living story. So yeah, don’t spread that lie

I’m sure the devs have all sorts of hopes and aspirations. Maybe they will surprise us, but based on past experience with other MMO’s and GW1 it simply won’t happen, and if it does it will cost as much as a mini expansion from the gemstore anyway.

ZudetGambeous.9573

The living story content is mildly amusing, it has a lot of pluses, but the negatives of cheap fast content are starting to outweigh the pluses.

Pluses:
1. New content every two weeks
2. World changes regularly

Negatives:
1. Content is removed, no permanent additions
2. Content lacks a cohesive story in order to allow people to jump in at any time
3. Rewards are rushed, undyeable, not varied between armor types, recycled skins, clipping issues.
4. New “maps” are rushed and subpar, lacking poi’s, WPs, vistas, SP’s and hearts. Maps are either removed after the event and if they do remain they are disjointed and not connected to other maps thus ending up ghost towns.
5. No new races, classes, skills, instead we get lots of expensive RNG boxes to continue funding the game

It’s time to get serious about the game. Playing around with cash shop RNG boxes is fine for a short term game plan, but it isn’t bringing back old players and it isn’t holding the attention of current players. Invest in a full feature expansion and put the game back on track to its full potential.

None of those materials are worth outright destroying except silk scrap and thick leather and if that guide is right and the main result is only celestial recipes you would only really want to destroy ~2 stacks per character anyway. This is essentially them selling us crafting recipes(that not everyone who crafts might even want) for 17.5silver.

I highly doubt this affects supply unless they also took a pass at what drops in heavy bags.

I agree that they need to reduce or remove those mats from heavy bags for it to make a lasting impact. But at least they are trying something.

GW2 unlikely to get expansions [Interview]

ZudetGambeous.9573

How did this come to this.
What happened to old Arena Net?
Seriously.
Greed? Money? Fame?

What are you talking about? Did you actually read the information?

GW1 was bigger game than GW2 and yet Arena Net managed to sustain it even without micro transactions.
I fail to see how GW2 will gain additional 3 000 000 players to reach the GW1 level without expansions.

LOL LOL LOL i’m sorry but how did you manage to type that with a straight face?

First off GW2 is somewhere in the neighborhood for 10-20x the size as GW1 in both land mass and content.

Secondly GW1 had <1million players. The 5-6 million figure they spouted was SALES, which included every base purchase and expansion as a separate sale. Which is fair since that’s how they made their money, but it had nothing to do with actual players.

GW2 has 3-4x more players than GW1 did over its entire lifetime.

Now for the living story discussion. The living story content is fun, but so far it has been very much fluff and not a lot of meat. It is in no way comparable to an expansion, and I would much rather they make an expansion that I have to pay for if it would advance the dragon storyline (you know the premise of the game and the reason most of us bought it) instead of making up increasingly ridiculous sub plots that don’t tie together or advance the story at all.

It’s been 10 months and the only new zone we’ve gotten is southsun and that was a flop. There are no hearts there, very few events, underwhelming rewards, overtuned mobs and it is isolated from the rest of the world. If you are going to half-kitten it then don’t bother at all. Build an expansion team and make zones right like you did the first time and tie them into the actual world.

Why are so many of these “high achievement points” players so selfish? (cough* elitism cough*)

Not every player has time to login for hours a day so dailies/monthlies become their only source of achievement points.

ANET has always wanted a level playing field. For instance in GW2, cheap exotics at 1-2g each has the same stats as a 1500g legendary. This is still evident in GW1 too.

Don’t take it too seriously. It is only a game

Sounds like you’re the elitist one here. You want to force people to log in every day for 1-2 hours to do dailies to keep their scores up with everyone else instead of being able to casually play and finish the actual achievements whenever they want.

That’s basically what this thread comes down to. we have the elitists who think they are better than everyone else because they can play every day and get points from dailies to artificially inflate their scores and we have the rest of the players who think that we should remove that and have a level playing field for everyone where only the things you actually accomplish should count towards this system.

That way a new player can slowly earn the points he/she needs by doing the achievements and putting in the work. They can never do dailies for the days before they played so they can never obtain the same number of points as veterans.

I’d get around 1.5g/run with the 200% gold find boost. That means that if I were to be able to run 6min runs for an hour, I’d get 15g/hour.

Keep in mind, the gold find doesn’t affect chests, so don’t just slap 200% onto how much gold you make in a run.

With that in mind, 15g/hour before counting loot is still pretty darn good.

Ahh you’re right, I forgot it won’t affect the chest money. So yes it will lower that figure to 15g/hr, still pretty good.

My bet is that after one day they nerf it to disable the use in dungeons.

Balancing achievement points

So, you basically want to make it impossible for PvP or WvW-only people to ever unlock the rewards?

There are extremely few ways to get achievement points in WvW, other than daily/monthly, and those that you can get takes ages.
Same with PvP really.

That is a separate problem entirely. The solution should never be to let one problem mask another, that’s just poor game design.

WvW points should be reworked to be more feasible and less time consuming, however I don’t expect WvW only people to unlock all the rewards. It is an achievement reward system. If they ignore 90% of the game and only play 10% of the game then they should only get 10% of the rewards from the system. Only a player who earns points from all aspects of the game should have enough achievements to unlock all the rewards.

if you could earn 100% of the rewards from only playing a tiny portion of the game then it wouldn’t be much of an achievement system. A solution would possibly be to separate the rewards into WvW/PvE/PvP so you need to unlock a certain number of points in each category in order to unlock the rewards for that category.

The better solution is to make everything else worth more AP

While I agree that the points need to be balanced, all this would do is delay the underlying problem. There is no cap on AP’s awarded from dailies. This means the upper limit on AP’s will just keep going up and up and up until there are people with 50,000+ points even though the system will need to have a much lower reward cap to be useable to new and veteran players alike.

I think a good compromise would be to cap the daily achievement points similarly to the cap for dungeon explorer and salvaging. Even if you cap it very high, say 5000 points, it would solve the problem and still let players progress just through playing.

Dailies obviously need to be removed from the reward system of achievement points.

no, it does not needs to be removed.

Otherwise you will get horrible point inflation and completely exclude new players from the game.

no. it does not exclude new players from the game.

Here is an example: Currently the top players have between 8000-10000 points. Almost half of those points come from dailies and monthlies. In another 6 months, 70% of their points will come from dailies and monthlies. This will continue to spiral out of control.

this is working as intended.
there is nothing wrong.

Lets look at a potential reward system.

Teir 1: 500 points
Tier 2: 1k
Tier 3: 2k
Tier 4: 3k
….
Tier 11: 10k

Without dailies you wouldn’t even be able to make it past tier 5 in this system, which means to get to tier 10 you would have to do every daily every day for 6 months or so even if you achieved everything in the game. This becomes purely another daily reward system, not an achievement award system.

the achievement points is always about spending more time playing the game.
more time spent playing the game means more achievement points.

it is just that simple.

You’ve provided no rebuttal at all, all you’ve said is “I like it the way it is so deal with it”
so yes it is “simple”, but not logical or useful to the discussion in any way.

I’d be happy to discuss, but please provide a valid reason that you should be given rewards for an achievement point system for not actually achieving anything? We already have a daily reward system. One that rewards time played with experience, gold, mystic coins, karma, and laurels. Commitment to time played is rewarded directly with laurels.

What is now being implemented is an achievement award system. One that in the current implementation does not award achievements, but rather dailies and time played. I’m arguing that we already have a system that rewards these aspects of the game so we should separate them so that the achievement award system rewards achievements, and the daily reward system awards time played and commitment.

Balancing achievement points

Thats exactly the point ZudetGambeous.
The actual system should be named differently, something like:

“persistent points” – meaning you play the game a lot, or for a long time, and thus, have more points.

or

“Activity Points” – Meaning you do a lot of things while playing instead of just standing there chatting with people, and thus, have more points.

Achievement point don’t fit with this kind of thing

I think we are awarded enough for dailies already. Gold, Karma, achievement points, Coins, Experience, Laurels. No single activity in the game rewards as much as dailies do.

The point of this system is supposedly to award achievements, which it currently won’t do unless dailies are removed. If the devs want to reward dailies more they would have called this a daily reward system mk2, but I don’t think that’s what they were going for by the sound of it.

Dailies will need to be removed from the achievement system or this will just become another daily reward that takes time to get like laurels.

Over half of the total achievement points available come from dailies and monthlies. You could do every achievement in the game and you wouldn’t even be in the top 100,000 in the leaderboards. The reward system will never work with dailies in the system because it will mean either some people are completely excluded, or most people have the content trivialized by dailies. There is no way to balance it except to remove it completely and let dailies be dailies, and achievements be achievements.

Tier 3: 2k
Tier 4: 3k
….
Tier 11: 10k

Without dailies you wouldn’t even be able to make it past tier 5 in this system, which means to get to tier 10 you would have to do every daily every day for 6 months or so even if you achieved everything in the game. This becomes purely another daily reward system, not an achievement award system.

If they set the reward tiers to actual achievements then it will be trivial because anyone that has been playing for 6 months or so will have accumulated that number of points in dailies without ever having to have achieved anything.

If you want to reward achievements then you should reward achievements, if you want to award dailies even more then you should award dailies anymore. However the current system is horribly broken and mixed up now that they are adding in this new component.

Hopefully this means mounts are finally coming to GW2. I don’t mean mounts that provide a movement speed bonus, I just mean something to ride on and collect and show off.

Balancing achievement points

The rewards should be tied to the achievement points, not the ones you get from dailies.

Doesn’t it seem wrong that you can get the maximum achievement point rewards without ever actually having achieved anything just by doing enough dailies?

The New Blog Post for Second Half of Year?

What is the answer to this question?
Do they have to wait a year, if yes then that is fine but if they can never get the chance to complete these ever in the future then putting these limited time achievements is a terrible idea.

you also can’t get the achievement points from previous monthlies/ dailies. Just tell them that they can do current living story achievements and if they’ll still for a long haul on average they’ll be higher on achievement points than most people, because the very oldest veterans with the most achievement points will probably slow down and not play the game as much as they did before.

See for them its not about being high on the achievement ranking, for them its about having the achievements in the Achivement tabs checked. It might not seem a big deal to others but it is a big deal for someone who is OCD lol.

Well better they be disappointed now than later. They will never complete all the requirements if they just started playing a year after launch. That goes for pretty much every MMO out there.

I keep seeing posts like this. Is there some part of the word achievement that people are unclear on? It seems like a pretty well known word to me, but maybe a lot of people here aren’t native english speakers. An achievement is something you work for which requires time, dedication, and commitment. By randomly handing them out to everyone that starts playing the game they are no longer achievements.

Also limited time content keeps players coming back and gives everyone new stuff to do when they come back without spreading the playerbase out too much. If every achievement and story was still available the player base would be way too spread out and the world would feel empty.

Precourser for Achievement Points

People will still complain because achievement points right now are largely based on dailies/monthlies.

So new players will not have an equal chance versus veteran players.

Rightly so – but people will still complain

What do you mean? Veteran players will have to complete x number of dailies to have the achievement points necessary to buy something.

New players will have to complete x number of dailies to have the achievement points necessary to buy something.

It takes them the exact same time with the exact same requirements for both of them. That’s about as fair as it gets.

Veteran players already have a massive chunk of those points most likely.

Veteran players also have more gold, more map exploration, more mats, more karma, and more badges. Does that mean new players should be able to craft legendaires for less as well? I’m just not seeing why this would be considered unfair, they put in more time so they have more stuff.

Ahh yes, an MMO finally lives up to the challenge of producing content faster than players can consume it, and someone still manages to complain…
