What in the?!? What’s this I read about magic find becoming some sort of account bonus for accomplishments!?

I’ve abandoned several good games simply for having this kind of reward structure! It punishes new players in a way that cannot be made up with a simple gift of a box of armor, they have to work hard to get that magic find. It does nothing to reward skill and everything to reward long time players.

Ok. Deep breath.

With MF on the gear, I have a decision to make: Can I clear this game content with the penalty of using MF gear, or do I sacrifice drops for clearing the content. Absent some living story content and fractals levels starting at about 26, and the odd bit of dungeon content, I don’t need my ‘main’ gear to press forward successfully. I’m a skilled player. I tank Karka. Veteran abominations, on occasion some giganticus fellow in Arah who has some really nasty breath. I don’t credit my gear for this, I credit my ability. I use my ability to bring MF along and get better drops. Some items have even been announced to only drop if you bring MF. What’s this mean? Only the players who have played the game longer and farmed all the permament MF bonuses have any real chance at getting it.

With MF on the account and off the gear, the switch itself punishes newer players who have paid out cold hard gold for a second set of MF gear. The attitude moving the buff to the account presents is not one of ‘ability trumps all’ but ‘attendance trumps all’, an attitude I absolutely despise in games. I come to use my ability, to earn my rewards, not for handouts – handouts are not earned, so they have no value to me (zenith gear included. Yeah, it looks shiny, but I didn’t do anything specific to earn it, so I value it likewise)

Please Arena Net: I’ve never asked you for anything design wise, but I’m going to insist now.

  • Drop the account wide buffs – they are a detriment to new players.

If you really want to reward longtime players, do it with titles, or skins obtained only by completing specific, sometimes difficult, content. Not as permament powerups for kitten showing up and killing ten rats.

I’m ok in a game without magic find. I’m not ok in a game that grants performance boosts of any kind to long-term players, PvE or PvP.

This post here sums it up very well for me.

All those of you who are excited about account-wide, achievement-based MF boosts should read this.

“So you’re new, and don’t have any MF bonuses, nor any way to get them other than not being new? Sucks to be you…”

They have to earn a luxury stat that has no effect on their power just like everyone else did?

Increasing supply to lower the price ignores half of the supply/demand equation. What happens when the increased supply creates more demand?

This is very astute. All evidence we have shows that doubling the precursor drop rate would actually increase the price, not decrease it. The shape of the curve looks something like this (obviously ignoring any actual numbers on the graph).

The near 0 graph? The long range graph? Both? What are the axes you are using? Supply vs Demand? Demand vs Supply? No offense but that wasn’t a very helpful graph =p

Salvage MF gear will yield a MF kit as per the new system. Number of kits based on rarity of item.

Runes can be exchanged at a vendor for more kits.

MF stat removed from that gear on patch day so you can’t stack and armor is inferior but still useable.

/done

Not quite. MF kits will not be free, armor MF that you already have will still be free to equip. So unless you actually nip the MF out of the armor itself, some people will still be running MF in dungeon(because it is free) if they dont have kits, and be still a liability to the team.

you realize you quoted the part of my statement that says… “MF stat removed from that gear on patch day so you can’t stack and armor is inferior but still useable.”

Which directly addresses your post. Removes MF from gear, and also lets people still wear the gear in case it is their only set.

You misunderstood. The end item is account bound by the time gated mats are not.

They will be rare and valuable due to the time constraints, thus giving crafters a stable market since everyone will want these items to craft the new account bound gear. That is the reason for the time gate.

Otherwise people will pump these out, craft all ascended gear in a week and then be bored again. This is the price we pay for not having a gear treadmill. We need the gear we do get to take a long time to craft since it lasts forever.

WHAT!?!?! They are doing exactly what they said they’d be doing for the last 6 months!?!?!

THE OUTRAGE!!!!!

It’s too bad they didn’t have ascended gear finished before launch. The sheeple here never would have made a single thread if they had finished it on time. They would of happily ground out the gear and crafted it just like they did when they went from rares→exotics at 80 or from masterwork→Rares while leveling up.

But instead they take their time and implement it right and it’s the death of the world as we know it.

As was originally stated back in November, Ascended gear was meant to be in at launch as a bridge between Exotics and Legendary items. Exotics were relatively easy to obtain and legendaries required hundreds of hours to obtain. A middle tier that took effort but wasn’t as crazy as legendaries was made to bridge this gap. Unfortunately it wasn’t finished in time for release so people freaked out.

This thread is long overdue. We should be on the second if not third dragon at this point. We are almost a year into the game and we haven’t heard anything. It is time to move things, the living story is nice filler content, but real developments are needed soon.

I don’t agree. I feel we are going at a good pace. The first year is always rocky for any new MMO and we have yet to reach the end of this year. Two weeks til we start month 11 for this game.

Hopefully we will have a better idea tomorrow when they release the blog post. I just feel like we aren’t really going anywhere.

And while the temp content is good for retaining current players, it does nothing to bring back old players or bring in new players.

It is not like the game is lacking future potential content. We have 2 continents, tons of lore, and other looming threats after the dragon so it’s not like they need to space it out.

The average MMO player plays an MMO for a year or year and a half before moving on. The average lifespan of an MMO (actively producing content, not limping along with no updates) is about 5 years. We have 6 dragons, if we ever want to see them they need to pick up the pace.

No new dragons for 2 years?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pretty much spot on. What was actually said was that elder dragons are expansion material and they aren’t working on an expansion yet and have no plans to do so in the immediate future.

Since it takes 2-3 years to build an expansion that means you will not be seeing a dragon for a minimum of 2 years, but 3 would probably be more accurate since they aren’t even considering an expansion yet.

People who don’t know would like to be enlightened on how to play and get to level 80 in 30 hours. If it involves crafting I’m sure they’d like to know how to get the gold it would take to craft while playing a new character in 30 hours.

Basically, do dynamic events.

The chains to be done may differ from time to time. I leveled my thief almost entirely on Molten Alliance portals.

If it’s really possible to level from 1 to 80 via DEs in 30 hours then example of it being done would great. When areas had players running around them at launch and I was contributing to get bronze jumping between events while they were parallely in progress bcs multiple bronze rewards provide more exp than single gold rewards I couldn’t level at a pace of 1 lv in under 30 minutes. I was getting about 1 per hour on average.

And player’s would still be playing handicapped at lv 80 when it comes to gear. Grinding to reach maximum combat efficiency is not fun. Playing challenging content without being handicapped figuring out the most effective way to overcome a challenge and executing it is fun.

My necro hit 80 last week.

I did her entirely from scratch (no gold or items from other characters) with the exception of constant xp and crafting boosters (I have like 20 of each from random rewards). I leveled tailoring and cooking to max with my own gold, it took about 4g at the time after selling everything back. The rest was map exploration, gathering and every DE I found along the way.

In the end it took me 44 hours, I had 9g after selling everything I collected, 200k karma, 60% map completion, and full lvl 60 rare armor.

I then dipped into my main characters coffers and bought her full T3, transmuted them to rabid stats, bought all 5 ascended pieces of jewelry, and full exotic weapons for both under and above water with all superior runes and sigils. Even that was not that expensive (minus the 130g for the T3), It was about 14g for the armor, 2g for the runes, 6g for the sigils, 24 guild comms, 20 PFR’s, and 40 laurels.

Now I just need to save some money up to finish making an ascended backpack and I will be all set all under 50 hours.

Follow the guides online and do all the campaigns. You can get to ~15 points without having to even look at another person in the game. You can get another 10 points just doing light trading. The last 5 points I got through selling a crap ton of stuff to buy another crap ton of stuff, so your milage may vary depending on how active the game still is.

You just need to purchase GW1, purchase EoTN, play 500+ hours and earn the rewards just like the rest of us.

The servers are still live, and you can earn all the cosmetic rewards (first 30 points) without seeing or speaking to another player in the game if you so desire. There are plenty of guides floating around out there on the quickest path to 30 points.

Well from those quotes they seem to be keeping right on track with everything except the account wide dyes. But dyes are so cheap and accessible (except for F&F ones) that it doesn’t really matter. You can get 90% of the dyes in this game for a total of about 20g. The hardest part is all the clicking to buy them all.

The fact is that they didn’t expect MMO players. They expected GW1 players who were very casual and slow. The no progression game they had in GW1 just wasn’t enough for modern MMO players. I never played GW1 until about 2 months before launch. In those 2 months time I beat every campaign, did all the bonus missions, and earned 30 HoM points. If GW2 hadn’t launched it probably could have held my attention for another 2-3 months, there just wasn’t much to do in that game even after 6 years of expansions and content updates.

Thankfully the devs realized this and are making progression and content at a record pace, faster than any other MMO I know of.

I still hope we see expansions so we get some higher quality content, but so far they are on the right track.

I would say the minimum to be efficient is exotics, but they aren’t strictly needed for anything in the game. There are no gear checks in the game that prevent you from progressing like in WoW, it is purely skill based, the stats are just a handicap to make things easier.

It still caps at 250. No change.

Daily/monthly is time limited, completely different discussion.

The fact is that they repeat every day/month meaning they are potentially infinite as is; the only limitation is that each set must be completed with in a day or month.

The design allows some of us who did not wish to do every achievement to be able to continue earning some for playing the game. I guess there would be a point where all the “interesting” achievements would be completed.

Given the rewards associated with achievement points, leaving this option allows everyone to have a chance.

I am not suggesting that these achievement’s should be removed. I am opening a discussion as to whether a cap something like a 1000 point ceiling would be in the best interest of everyone. If someone wishes to earn x number of points then their are plenty of ways to do so. Limiting this is a benefit in my view. Would you enjoy it if others could simply salvage there way to x number of points?

I assume resistance to this is occurring because individuals are too concerned with farming their achievement points as to the quality and dedication others put into it earning them.

Similar to what I said before you can potentially earn over 100 points killing nothing but bunnies every few days. “Indiscriminate Slayer” can earn you a maximum of 16 achievement points; I find the current state of daily and monthly system disrespectful to those who care about achievement points. You cannot argue that 30 ambient creature kills multiplied by 16 which is 480 is greater than the 1000 kills needed for “Indiscriminate Slayer”.

Sure it is. You only have 24 hours to complete the ambient slayer in the daily category, you have as much time as you need to complete the regular ambient killer. Thus you are awarded extra points for completing objectives within a certain time limit.

Also daily’s are not infinite no matter how many times you say they are. At any moment in time there is a set limit to the maximum available points, and you can not gain those points retroactively. Once they are gone they are no longer available. Every year this is a yearly cap of ~3600 points from dailies. No one can ever go over that cap, thus it is not infinite.

35 runs in 2 days and you are saying you can’t play 24/7?

Also it has nothing to do with luck. This is the first minigame where there is almost 0 luck involved. I managed to win 23/25 races so far. one of those losses was my first run where I was learning the course and the second loss was to someone who was actually better than me (that was a fun race)

Always go for the defensive power-ups, they are always better than the offensive ones, unless you are already in first then you’ll want an even mix of both.

Only take the shortcuts if you can do so smoothly and without falling. slowing down is always better than falling, and going fast is always better than going very slow to do a short cut.

If you are not in the top 3 then keep grounded up as much as possible so you aren’t constantly running into fake power-ups. If you are in the top 3 save grounded until you see a stun about to happen.
