How are people making good money off this? The stupid Champion bags are all giving me only ~6 silver, a few middle-tier crafting materials and a green piece of armor. Every time.

You’re about 8 hours too late. They’ve nerfed it 3 times since this thread was made.

Seems to be down to a more reasonable 4-5g/hr now, consistent with other parts of the game. Xp is still above average though, as is the fun factor!

Classes with more dodges will have an advantage, but I did it with my necro anyway.

condition damage is also useful since you can keep doing damage even while you are running away.

Isn't Temporary Content A Waste?

Well according to the devs this temp content is part of a portfolio that will return every year. Apparently after this event all future events will leave permanent things in the game world.

So... everything in this patch is temporary

ZudetGambeous.9573

Hey folks,

I wanted to take a moment and address this, it’s a totally fair question and something as a player (removing my GD hat) I’d wonder the same thing as well. As I covered in my blog post last month, a major focus of our living world releases in the second half of the year will be on focusing our living world releases on content that has a larger sense of persistence, and more permanent effect on the world.

You’ll start seeing this strategy come into effect with the release 2 weeks from now, and grow as the year continues. The story of these living releases will occur long enough for it to play out reasonably and then update as the story moves forward, while the content and playable experiences (except specific story beats) will persist forever as a result of that story occurring.

We still want to have some content that can happen each year, our holiday festivals, Super Adventure Box, Zephyr Sanctum, and the new Queens Gauntlet are all intended to be content that will regularly return. The goal of having these in our portfolio of event content that can occur again each year is they allow us the opportunity to easily build on something we’ve already completed as themes for some of our releases for year 2.

We wanted to get to the end of the first year of Gw2 with a decent amount of these events that can happen each year in our pocket, to allow our second year a lot more opportunities to lean on these while we focus on much larger projects we’ve been working on in the background. You will not see another new recurring style event in 2014 once our core portfolio of returning events have been completed with the Queens Gauntlet. You’ll already see the benefits of this as the return of Halloween, SAB, and Wintersday has given some of our teams time to focus on other bigger projects during that time.

As to the point of this specific release, there are a ton of permanent features and content. From the update of mini-games becoming permanent on a rotation, champion loot, solo queue PvP and leaderboards, dungeon reward changes, currency wallet, PvP leaver penalties (dishonorable), the FX culling system and more! However, we do recognize one of the components is returning content rather than constant, we need one more core event in our portfolio to fill out our ability to pull off the ambitious plans we have for next year. We too want to have an even larger playable content impact as stated in our goals for the second half of 2014, you’ll be see seeing that play out shortly.

Soon, you won’t need to ask “is this permanent or temporary?”, you’ll simply be able to look at story specific parts and know the story goes away when it’s done, and the playable core content remains and changes based on the outcomes of the story. As a player, I’d rather login and experience an event knowing the outcome and the results of the story will create content I can see and experience for years, than have it all go away 2 weeks later, and have no impact.

We’re also looking into options that would allow players to experience the story sequences that will go away as the story moves forward for those who missed them, but this is still a ways off as we look at various options.

As a reminder, this is where we’re headed and the goals we’ve given to our teams to accomplish, it just takes a few months until we fully get our projects on this track: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

Well I feel much better reading this, however I AM still concerned about the queens gauntlet having so many gates involved. Since this is a temporary game I would much rather it have more easy access. This is from the perspective of someone who will have no trouble getting it done anyway. It has never taken me more than 3 days to finish all the LS achievements, but I do know players who can’t play as often as me and this seems to shaft them rather hard, especially if they can only play during prime time.

So live stream just finished but I am a bit unsure if I understood this completely.

As far as I can tell its supposed to be non instaced so players can watch others do well or even hilariously fail and fall to their deaths.

AS MUCH AS I AM GOING TO ENJOY THAT!

Won’t this have an incredibly long queue? Having tons of people trying to do one match?

They claim it’s not an issue.

But it’s obviously an issue. We will see tomorrow. Of course if you can’t get in on patch day you’ll have plenty of time to complete it lat…. oh wait never mind it’s temporary, sorry.

That doesnt prove anything…. They could just NOT remove this content… And it would be permanent

So, lets say a giant monster comes and destroy the whole area where the new stuff are, how could they not remove it?

They spent 4 months developing an area and mini-game to have it be destroyed and never seen again?

I’d say they are stupid and should find a new team of developers.

Or they could just move it to an instanced area by talking to an NPC.

It takes no effort at all to NOT remove something. They just don’t care.

Good luck.

Could you please list your source? Being a person who has been highly involved in that content, I’ve never experienced, seen, or heard of a 25 minute wait time from any of our testing.

According to your fellow developer:

Actually it’s two minutes. And the map capacity of Crown Pavilion is limited to 75 before it starts to create overflows.

75 people, 6 people at a time, 2 minute matches = 75/6 *2 = 25 minutes

Obviously some people will finish their matches faster, but even if they finish in 1 minute that is still a 12 minute wait, and I doubt everyone will finish that fast.

Only 6 domes ???? why no instanced ??

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

ZudetGambeous.9573

You can see how many people are waiting on the NPC who you’ll need to talk to in order to get into the arena. Most fights will not actually take two minutes. The arena will admit the next person whenever someone wins or loses as well. Also there’s a lot of other stuff going on in the map. You guys should check it out before you jump to too many conclusions.

Having to wait any time at all is the problem. There was no reason additional people past the first 6 couldn’t be put into instances and allowed to participate.

Based on the difficulty and the number of achievements, it seems we will need dozens of matches to complete all the achievements. Even at a 5 minute wait this means hours and hours of queue times overall that are unnecessary.

Again if this event was permanent then it wouldn’t be a problem, but we are forced to do it all in 4 weeks if we want to do it at all, so time is an issue.

They don’t even bother with originality, they just steal the ideas directly from popular books/movies like the hunger games and now catching fire.

2 minutes to defeat all 5 competitors in the tier or two minutes per competitor?

We’ll go with the former just for sake of argument.

that’s 6 people rotating out every 2 minutes. With a cap of 75 that means 12.5 groups of people rotating through every map, or a 25 minute wait to participate in this event.

There is absolutely no reason I should need to wait 25 minutes to participate in 2 minutes of content. It is completely unacceptable and if it goes live like this I will not be participating.

Once I figured out the correct method I managed to get this achievement done fairly painlessly and had fun while doing it.

The key is to get at least 30 points during the grace period. You have to play very aggressively. Stay near the starting camp and get lots of arrows. Rations aren’t important, you will die before the grace period ends and be granted a free ration and arrow when you respawn. If you can get the pistol or the sword at the start do so. If you have the sword don’t attack a single person 3 times, but instead attack 3 different people once. As long as you do damage to them you will get 1 point for the hit and 5 points for the kill when they eventually die. The pistol is basically 2 headshots that you can use while moving, so use it for 2 free kills right off the bat before people have endurance.

Next head to the main camp and get at least 4 arrows. Climb up the tower and target people as they come by. Again don’t waste time or arrows trying to kill people, the idea is to weaken as many different players as possible. hitting 4 different players will net you a total of 24 points eventually.

If you die during the grace period and end up back at the main camp you are good, just keep doing what you were doing. If you get sent to a far camp just gather as many resources as possible and stay near another person.

Now for the important part. once the grace period ends, you need to be the first person to DIE. DO NOT KILL ANYONE. Dying first allows you to obtain all the blue ghost balls that spawn from every person who scavenges during the first 3 minutes of the game. If you are at the main camp this is usually 20-30 balls, and usually 10-20 balls at the outlying camps. Each one gives you 1 point, so you will end up with a score from 60-70.

After this you have two different strategies. The goal is to end the game as quickly as possible while still maintaining a steady stream of points. Every trap you set off is worth 2 points, and every kill is worth 5. if you have a game with a lot of hiders who stocked up rations and are in a bush then you want to max out your balls to 15, find them and spawn a kakra on their head. Wait until they start running. They will almost always do a dodge right off the bat. Once the kakra is fully out of the ground drop a KD trap slightly ahead of them. If it spawns on them it will not go off, it needs to be ahead of them, and it takes 0.5 seconds to cast so plan accordingly. Make sure to place it so they can’t miss it. This will give you a 99% chance of the kakra killing them and them triggering the trap for a instant 7 points.

If you find someone running around instead of hiding then you will want to switch to alarm traps instead. These can only be triggered while running so if someone is just hiding don’t bother since it won’t trigger. If you see a runner you follow the same method as the KD trap. It will apply 2 stacks of torment to them. If they are smart they will stop moving, wait for it to drop off, heal and then start up again. Once they start up again hit them with another. If they don’t stop moving you can stack them, and hold enough motes for 3 traps total, giving you 6 pts, and them almost certain death for another 5 points. These are much cheaper than the kakra+KD combo so you will get more points doing this initially, but if it means the match will draw out longer, then it might be better to go for the above combo to finish off hiders.

I found this method to be much more fun then trying to survive to the end. You get to do a lot more killing, rack up more points (I usually got highest points every round, even though I was one of the first to die), and get to annoy more people from the grave.

The other stealth skills are what is problematic. And they are very annoying.

If Anet wanted to make it an even fight there wouldn’t be 5 dev posts supporting Evon and 0 supporting Kiel. They would have revealed some juicy secret about the reactor that made us interested. They would of put the minigames and trail portals near each other instead of putting Evon’s in plain view close to the WP and hiding Kiel’s back in a corner. They wouldn’t have sent us 20+ “support reminders” with 2s a token and a giant VOTE FOR EVON slapped on them. And they wouldn’t have made a pirate election where one of the candidates isn’t a pirate and doesn’t like treasure…

imo there should be at least 1 scrap in every box. that means you would need a maximum of 10 boxes, or 900 gems to get a skin. This is still way more than enough, but removes the terribad RNG ccomponent and encourages more people to buy keys since they know they will eventually get what they want.

I can’t really see why they wouldn’t do this. It still lets them make money from gambling, trying to get a ticket, but you make even more money from people who just outright buy 10 keys because they know they will get something in return.

Of course this all becomes 5x worse next week anyway, then it is just absurd.

Hey the Karka and Torment traps are fine, however when it comes to things that has this much power (instagib) fair warning has to be made. For karka for instance maybe a ground shake to alert of its coming, that way even a karka+trap could be survivable (a good player would assume a trap as well and try to avoid)

The ground does shake… and there is a loud kakra spawning noise… and there is a 4 second warm-up animation before the attack

Kakra alone is pathetic.

Kakra + KD trap = insta death

Torment = unseeable and undodgable, only defense is to not move ever.

Gold really isn’t that hard to get. I don’t farm, i don’t play the TP or anything. I just mess around and sell stuff i find. I’ve got 60g that’s just sitting there.

…60g is ~nothing.

Maybe not in terms of overall player wealth, but 60g is very well off in terms of in-game costs…

60g will get you:

3 sets of top tier weapons and armor.
half a set of the most expensive armor in the game
enough money to level 2 characters all the way to 80.
Enough money to buy one of the best looking weapon skins of your choice.

Sure it is not a ton if you are going for a legendary, but 60g is enough to buy everything you need to play the game how you want for months on end without any financial problems.

Plus once you have everything you want in the game you can slowly save up money. I earn like 5g/day just goofing off. But since I don’t need to buy anything at this point I’ve got almost 100g in the bank just by doing pretty much nothing.

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: ZudetGambeous.9573

Yeah it is completely unbalanced compared to the other one.

But the reasoning is pretty obvious. People will grind the achievement anyway because they want the points. This is Evon’s game and Anet wants Evon to win. Many more people will play the survival game, thus giving evon a ton more points and helping him win.

Think about it…

Evon gives a better fractal
Evons minigame and trial are closer to the WP and in plain view
Kiel’s minigame and trial are stuffed in a corner
Evon gives the player free money and tokens on a regular basis, kiel does not
Evon is an actual pirate in the pirate election, Kiel is a goody goody soldier

It’s pretty obvious who they want to win here.

1.) No one is forcing you to buy these skins. If you want to blow 50-200g on these skins (which aren’t even worth the money), then it’s your fault if you lose out. Don’t complain when the house wins.
2.) The current system is better than before. At least this time your failures still contribute to a reward in the end
3.) Guaranteed drop rates aren’t good. I bet a good majority of people like having rare skins that you don’t see other people wear. If they allowed guaranteed rates, these skins would be just another flavor of the month.

How is this system in any way shape or form better than dragon coffers or fortune scraps?

The only advantage is that you can directly buy these off the TP instead of buying the coffers. However the prices for these are set strictly by the trials drop rate, not the BLK’s otherwise they’d be an order of magnitude higher in cost.

Doesn’t change anything for me. I’m not going to gamble for a chance at a skin unless I can do it without the gemstore.
